Veteran players asking to get a separate base game key because they think the product somehow entitles them to that are silly. Giving out millions of base GW2 accounts to people who upgrade their current account would also be pretty silly.

See, and this is exactly what makes existing players feel that something is shady. Especially since the expansion happens to be the price of a full game. This has nothing to do with entitlement.

That is not a very good argument, what’s to stop people from selling their accounts now ? You can’t just assume everyone is going to break the rules. Sure some will try and sell it, there is no doubt about that. The majority would probably give it to a friend or family member to spark interest, some might just keep it for themselves. I have 5 copies of the game, I don’t need 5 copies, I rarely use them all, but I bought them, they are mine and I have no desire to “try and sell them” to someone else.

Yes you can’t assume everyone will break the rules but lets face it many people would and many people do. Gold sellers ring a bell? Ever get spammed while chilling in the pvp lobby? Those spammers are all breaking a rule and they will continue to break the rules because most of those have scammed others and are using someone else’s account.

Better yet giving out a free version to people would just create more gold selling accounts. If the gold sellers find out they can also get a free code for the core they would jump all over it just to have more accounts to scam others with.

I’m with you I wouldn’t scam anyone but really you can’t say people won’t try to make money off of something they get for free. I would point out greed but I already got a few infractions for saying some people are just greedy. Ops.

Also those that try to sell their accounts now, they did have to purchase the game to begin with so that money went to anet.

You didn’t get freebies during these 2 years; you got Anet fulfilling the promises they did to players 3 year ago when they released GW2.

Actually I did get freebies, I got free updates pretty much every 2 weeks, Free Living stories that new players will need to buy with gems, Free open world content that isn’t coming back, and since you mentioned the gem store. I got lots of free stuff on there as well because at times they give away free stuff to players. Maybe small free stuff but it was still free..

All Prepurchasing or early access is, is a gamble at the bottom of it. You are saying that what you have seen of the product is worth to you the price or that you have faith in the developer to make it that way before release. It is always a gamble, always. The original FF14 is a good example of that.

To say that someone is being gullible or irresponsible in the purchasing of HoT is wrong. To the OP it is worth the money, to others maybe not. That is a decision everyone has to make. So talk with your money it really is the most efficient way to get a company to listen. If HoT prepurchases are significantly lower then expected A-net will do something, if they meet there quota or exceed it then they wont.

All that these personnel attacks on players is doing is making life unpleasant for everyone. It’s fine to post opinions about Anet’s marketing policy but most of the threads just come down to slap fights between players.

Upgrade. I have so many hours in this game, it would actually take me over 2 years to get back to where I am now. 9 lvl 80’s, 4k+ WvW rank, 15k+ achievement points, Maxed every craft. Would like to point out that the Ultimate edition will not be an available option for you to upgrade if you if choose another version.

Note that the Ultimate edition is only available for purchase in-game and via buy.guildwars2.com. Additionally, there won’t be an option to upgrade to the Ultimate edition later if you decide to purchase the Standard or Deluxe edition

Have the devs said that there will be no char slot with the standard edition? Because all I have found so far are the descriptions of the packages you can buy. And nowhere it says that there is no slot. What does it say though is that there is ADDITIONAL slot with delux and ultimate editions. So, does standard edition have ONE slot and delulx/ultimate TWO SLOTS ( hence one additional slot) or is there NONE in standard and ONE in delulx/ultimate?

The way I read it was the standard doesn’t include a character slot. The deluxe and ultimate versions do. To be honest you may have just nailed one of the problems that many people have. Now the hard part will be to get Anet to include the free slot in the standard version (maybe by saying ops we left this out) and the deluxe and ultimate would get two extra slots. I really think if they did do that a lot of angry players would not be angry anymore.

edit: Someone also said white knights are what ruin this game yet I’ve already gone and supported the game by buying the expansion. That was my choice. So I supported this game cause I felt it was worth it to yet some people are saying people like me ruin this game. Go figure..

i must be having a hard time seeing past the lies, arrogance, and greed.

Well if you can get past all that, the picture I have is Anet tried to do something to bring in more players. More players will benefit us all in the long run. The more players we have around, the more likely those players will buy things from the gem store as many of us have done over the times to help support the game.

The more support they get from the players the more new content they can create. The more content that they can create will give us more stuff to do in the game. They want to create stuff so that the players stick around and the free content that they have pushed out over the years just wasn’t enough to keep the players in the game.

Yes they make money as well but if you look at feedback and stuff they actually do listen to the players (not all the time) and try to create things for the players to enjoy. Yes it is Anets game but really the players are the ones that will help support it and keep the game going for years to come.

The only argument that I can agree on with people is the price of the expansion since everyone’s budget is not the same. I really do understand those players.

The ones I don’t get are the people demanding something free because new players get a free copy of the core game. I don’t get the veterans that say we got nothing but had years of free updates. I don’t get how people are so upset they need another character slot when you don’t get one for each profession to begin with.

I bought the ultimate version as well. Got my 4000 gems and all the other bonuses as well. I usually convert my gold to gems to get things like minis, finishers, bag slots, character slots and bank tabs so I thought this was the best deal. Probably have enough gems to last me a while now

A better alternative would be giving existing players can get an additional account code (with their purchase) for gifting to another friend. Thus prepurchase becomes a referral promotion to grow the community.

I think most people that buy HoT want to jump right into it. If you just get a code to give to a friend well you can only play with him in the core version. If he upgrades to HoT well then he gets a code as well. You get a code, and you get a code, and you get a code. That’s a lot of codes being passed around.

Also if it is a free code, whats to stop people from selling those codes to try to scam people and make money. There are tons of scams out there especially on the internet. I even recall a thread here once about some site selling HoT when HoT wasn’t even available yet. Giving out free game codes is not a very good idea IMO.

Take what you payed when you originally bought the game. Now add to that number the standard price for HoT which is 50. Write that number down.

His comments are not sincere, he is your stereotypical white knight. He loves this game therefore everyone must agree and love this game, all other are doomed to fail because he rides for Anet.

If he was sincere he would have simply said best of luck to you, enjoy your new game without the oh and BTW that game sucks, followed by insinuating he will be back.

The radical white knights are more toxic for this game then all the people voicing their concerns combined.

Seems you only like journalists who have the same views as you do. Going to be funny when some of your favorite journalists see it the same way as these other guys. Guess you’ll have more channels on your block list soon.

I’d say if you like to beta content before it becomes available to everyone, you should pre-order. You will have access to any up coming open betas so you don’t have to rely on farming for a beta portal or hoping your name gets picked from the mailing list.

The only other thing I can think of is it will upgrade your account so as soon as HoT launches you will be ready. Would think you’d need to patch/download the new content but the second it becomes live you will be ready to do what ever you have to, to jump right in.
