But this won’t happen of course.

You don’t see that this would more than likely kill the pvp scene entirely? a large chunk of the playerbase would not waste the time making teams to wait in line for a match each time. The amount of players would dwindle down to a point where you would only have a few teams fighting at a time all together.

I solo queue in ranked because I see absolutely zero reason to play unranked. Unranked has disgusting skyhammer.

Really what is the point of unranked? Am I supposed to care if I win or lose in ranked? Without any visible measurement of my rating or progression, there is no weight to ranked matches.

I would also like to know what the point of unranked is. It seems to just split the player base and make matchmaking 100% worse as the player base is half the size.

the ranked was made in order to have competitions and give rewards that they have done twice
cause of that they had to made the unranked also for ppl or teams that wanted to practice against others without ruining there score

I don’t see how that was any better than the current system.

One of the most popular and competitive games in the world, League of Legends, has a solo queue system. The reason is because it is an impartial system. Players learn and improve their mechanics more from equal-footing situations rather than getting steamrolled by premade teams vs pugs. Alternatively, premade teams gain more insight and experience from facing other premade teams rather than steamrolling pugs.

Also, from a population growth standpoint, it is beneficial to have an impartial solo queue system. When players have a negative experience in pvp, such as a premade team steamrolling pugs, the desire to participate in pvp decreases = less pvp activity = dead pvp. By having a solo queue, more players will have more positive pvp experiences, which encourages pvp participation.

It’s quite hard to compare gw2 conquest with Lol Moba. Their gameplay has ‘clear cut’ defined roles and you can really play solo and carry the game just by outfarming your lane, etc. You also queue into lobbies so there’s never a conflict of roles when the game starts.
Conquest in GW2 is one big chaos compared to a Moba. There are no defined roles (from a soloq POV) and it’s much harder to coordinate the rotations (which is the most important aspect to win conquest). Conquest has a very subtle gameplay mechanic: (map)rotations. It’s “impossible” to master and for a big part you depend on your teammates decisions.

I think this is one of the reasons why people hate conquest, there is no clear learning curve. The only learning curve (aside of map awareness) is mechanical, which is pretty limited in gw2. THat’s why it’s so hard to carry, that’s why there is so much QQ. While you may think you’re the best mechanical player, your mechanics won’t weigh so much in the grand scheme of conquest. And while you may think you’re pro at the rotation game, you’re even more dependent on others.

I think it’s very hard to provide a decent soloq experience in conquest, even when all people are on a similar skill level. For the simple fact that you can’t carry (hard). In LoL + Cs:go (+ other games) your mechanical skill can have much more weight compared to GW2.
I have had many blowouts in those, established multi million pvp games. However, there is less reason to blame others (many still do it, but that’s more the natural venting reflex of players) because if you focus on your own gameplay, you can become better and you can most def. carry and have an enjoyable experience. In conquest, I can only hope that my team is on a similar mechanical skill level and is capable of making decent rotational decisions.

Anyone else missing gw1’s HA and GvG?? The game is getting old and we have only this conqest with limited features… Now they wanna make a MOBA-like gamemode from the old gvg. Monsters running around in lanes to kill gates and each other LMAO… Devs pls play less LoL(stronghold)… at least give us the guild hall based gvg back with proper leaderboards.

People keep talking like it were those specific modes that carried GW1’s PvP. They were fun modes but it was the gameplay that made it work/shine/etc.
—> 8v8, the endless amount of skills + the secondary profs, the slower gameplay, the collision, the healing aspect, etc etc.

It shall never happen but I’d like to see an exact copy paste from GvG and HA. Just to show you that it’s the gameplay that made it work not necessarily the gamemode/maps.

Stronghold will be (only if it’s put in its own queue/mode) GW2’s take on GvG. The fact that it revolves around a tangible endgame (< the lord as opposed to the 500 score mark) makes it very similar to GvG. We’ll have to wait and see how it works out.

Hotjoin has been the bane of GW2. With unranked in-game, there is really no reason why to motivate people to ‘practice’ a different flawed conquest experience.

Team Queue vs. Ranked Queue

And for the love of god, do not allow soloq’ing in teamqueue or w/e.

Meanwhile put stronghold in it’s own ‘mode’ and only allow full teams (pugs/guilds) to play it.
This game does not, in any way, give incentives to form teams. Soloq’ing is nice and all, but the gameplay is not meant for soloplay. This will show even more in stronghold.

Give automated tournaments, because ESL and w/e just doesn’t cut it. We need something consistent with good rewards to increase the amount of teams and competitiveness.

An analyst desk so we can actually talk about some plays. As the game goes on most of the things that are called are stomps/portal etc. Almost never in depth rotational play nor mechanical plays. Would require the POV of every player though.

Stronghold seems pretty unique to me. Every game is inspired by another game.

Is there a gamemode that is unique to MMO’s? Not that I know of.

Maybe the guild lb’s will change something? But hell, why didn’t they mention it on the livestream then. That makes me think it won’t all be that special.

The leaderboards, when changed for the better, will be useless if you mix 2 (3 if you add CY) gamemodes.
The other alternative is not adding it to ranked. But then you’re advertising a new gamemode which you can’t play in ranked. Guild LB’s kinda confirm that this won’t be the case though.

The only upside is ‘not splitting the population’. But when compared with all the upsides of splitting, I think this gets completely nullified and will be detrimental to the overall state of sPvp.

I’m afraid they decided to include Stronghold in conquest because they don’t have the resources to make a UI that lets the player choose

So then perhaps a question might come would you rather have the opportunity to choose your gamemode or have shorter queue times.

Population issue are a valid concern. But this decision makes no sense at all. While it might alleviate population issues, it’ll destroy the potential the gamemode has.

Splitting atleast conquest and stronghold will cause short term population unbalance, however long term (depending on the enjoyability of the gamemode) it will boost sPvP in its entirety.

Maybe their guild LB’s will make sense of this all.

I have yet to hear a good argument on why build templates would not solve the majority of issues with the stronghold map being in the same queue as the other maps. Would you care to explain it to me.

- You can’t focus on one gamemode. You like Stronghold, but hate conquest? Tough luck, try the RNG voting.

Aside from the above reason which most people will agree with (I think?), I feel like this would have been the ideal moment to try a pug/guildteam only gamemode (a la HA/GVG from GW1). No option at all to solo/duoq it (or at least for the ranked version?). Several reasons why I’d think it would be a good thing for the game, which I have stated in an earlier comment.

I can understand those that want to focus one one game mode.

  • Is there a reason why custom arena’s are not viable?
  • If you voted on the game mode first then voted on map would this be acceptable.

Please note: I am not arguing for keeping it in the same queue. As it is right now I rather them be separate. These are questions that a developer may ask.

I’m a casual competitive player. Custom arena doesn’t offer me a competitive infrastructure. I want a ranked experience with rewards tied to it.

Voting on gamemode still means you need to be lucky. It has to be a 100% chance to play stronghold or conquest, whichever you want to play.

I was really stoked on what I saw. I left after they showed off the map. I come back and people are saying that this will be in the same queue as Conquest which is a totally different game type?

So you guys are offering Templates right? Templates where I can save as many build/gear combos as I want without the gem shop being involved? You know, so I can swap my armor quickly and conveniently because I am queued for 2 different formats in a single queue.

Why can’t we have it like in gw1? Where you form PuGs or go with your guildteam? These modes are heavy on teamplay. Stronghold seems to have way more objectives and options, as such it has much more depth and choices to be made. While soloq/duoq etc makes it more accessible, it does create a lot of problems. A lot of rage, whining etc. comes from the fact that people soloq in a teamplay heavy game where the individual skill cannot carry a team.

It is what it is for conquest. You cannot limit that mode anymore.
But I’d want to see what a pug/guildteam only gamemode does to the pvp community. It would alleviate matchmaking issues/QQ, create a healthier competitive scene as people are forced to look for pugs/guilds and communicate, etc.

Even templates for easy swapping won’t make it better.

It’s an entirely new gamemode, they’re pushing it as an entirely new gamemode (unlike CY). People might want to play the mode exclusively without having to deal with voting RNG.

I think most people already know that, because that’s how G1 works.

I kind of hope for a battle where the entire guild can participate myself. So I am disappointed. But on the other hand, everyone knows how popular MOBA is. And having a new pvp mode which ressembled MOBA is quite cool.

Also I think the ability to register as a guild and rank a team is quite cool. That’s not previously done very well before.

I doubt I’m good enough to make the cut for my guild’s stronghold team. But I’m sure I’ll be cheering on them. I hope a guild’s can register multiple team also so more people can participate.

This game doesnt have skill based to be moba… because you are not punished to waste big cooldown enough…. i want old GvG back to have something to do… i hate that stronghold is not what we PvP players desire so much for SO LONG.

GW1 GvG would not be the same experience when copy pasted into gw2. If you think that, you don’t realize just how different both games are.
We can only hope that stronghold will be a fun successor to GW1 GvG.

I think there should be more options for units than just bomb carriers and archers.
Suplementing the areas your team composition lacks in like for example, sturdy melee NPC and balancing out the army would’ve been much more fun I think.

It seems very basic and kind of unoriginal for me. I wish they were a little bit more creative when it comes to systems like those.

I mean, why spend supplies on Archers in the early game when some staff ele will get rid of all guarding NPCs in a matter of seconds? And they can’t harass players.
Get treb, bombard mid, spend supplies on massing bomb carriers and treb repairs. Once gate is down, mass archers, leave the treb, lure the AI out of the base into the range of archers, go ham.

Too basic, too simplistic. I fear that it will very quickly become stale once players find out one or two tactics. Played too many RTSes to not see this coming.

You do realize it’s PvP, right? Your oversimplistic strat will get countered, ya know?

People keep saying it’ll be kitten. Just hold your horses, sjeez.
The only thing I’m looking forward to is a gamemode that doesn’t involve scoring (0-500) and the cap/hold point gameplay that gives the points. The fact we have to kill a Guild Lord will make it much more enjoyable to watch. This and the other little objectives that pace the gameplay will make it fun to play too as it’ll open up strats, etc.

I hope they’ll limit the mode to guilds/full groups, atleast for ranked.

Sounds like fun on paper.

Totally not GvG or a suitable replacement for those hoping for, or wanting a Suspenseful and tension filled Death match of Push and Pull with Multiple “Win” Conditions…
At least not on Paper.

Its basically just a moba, so those wanting GvG are going to be disappointed.

GvG was defined by Guild lord and Flag. We got the Lord and the flag may very well be replaced by the creep mechanics.
We’ll have to wait and see how it plays.

But you’ll never ever get GvG like in gw1. Even if they add it, with a complete copy paste, it wouldn’t be the same. The game is not build with 8v8 in mind nor with the front/mid/backline nor with collision nor with a slower gameplay, etc.

We can only pray for a suitable successor. Stronghold may very well be that.

Every game needs progression. GW2 has progression but they felt they could do more, i.e masteries. It seems very open to me, it all depends on the MP’s needed to unlock and the XP to unlock. But even then, I want it to be ‘meaningful’ (=grind for about everyone on these forums :/), I don’t want it to be done in 2 days.

Would you prefer 10 more levels, which means nothing in gw2.
Would you prefer more stats, which seems pretty boring to me.
Or would you rather have something tangible, i.e. masteries (atm they look tangible, could be that there are more shallow masteries though).

That’s a weird complaint lol.

It’s account bound, mastery points are account bound. Only the XP progression is limited to the zones. Is that soooo bad? It’s your choice to park your alts and only use them for that gameplay.

[MAC] FPS issues

Ima bring him in tomorrow. I’m not too techsavvy. Last time I tried I saw gw2 going upto 200% CPU usage (dunno if it was like that when I could still play without the FPS drop) and I downloaded a temp monitor which showed CPU at 85+ degrees.
