Buuut can we make the gameplay more active?
Make it so that we have a little ‘skillbar’ for rune and sigil procs which you can use manually. If you decide to reimplement a global cooldown, it’ll be visible and you’ll be able to chose which one to use first. This game could use a higher (mechanical) skill ceiling.

Less RNG, less passives. —--> more counterplay, more options.

Leaderboard fail

The old leaderboards were crap too, though.

My suggestions:

- Give more weight to ladder position.
- Max 1 point or even max 0 points on a loss. This will make winning a bit more rewarding relative to those who lose. I think it’s still worth it to do your best if you know you could lose no points or gain 1 point. I don’t know how many times it happens that players get +2 when they lose, might be interesting data for Justin.
- Activate dishonor and implement grace period. This will make the LB’s a bit fairer too for everyone.
- Implement a character change grace period. Allows people to change comps, avoid class stacking, etc. Lots of people still change, so I assume they get -3 every time.
- More data for us (directly from Anet or through API). Class leaderboards, kills, deaths, downs, match stats, etc.
- Ingame leaderboards? Ingame notificiation of the odds of winning? Ingame notification of LB points reward? etc.
- Seasons/leagues, however these would work with the current iteration of the LB (teamq/soloq together in one league? Hope not)
- Daily, weekly, monthly automated tournaments to get more teams formed, more competition, etc. Teamq wins reward you with ‘currency’ which is needed to register for those automated tournaments. This way you get more teams all around + competition. ESL is not a valid replacement for this.

An expansion is a way of releasing content, just like the Living Story. Anet has said in the past that they are creating content/features but that they haven’t decided how to release it.
So while people say they need 1-2 years to create an expansion, it is perfectly possible that the content is already created.
My bet is that they’re gonna release an expansion some time, just because there’s such a big outcry for it but that they’ll tie it in with the LS. The expansion would then be like the main game, with a campaign to kill Mordremoth.

Bring back solo queue. Make rewards be 1500 win / 500 loss for both solo queue and team queue. That way both sides will be satisfied and nobody from solo queue would go in team queue and ruin it. All would be happy and rewarded equally.

That should’ve been done in the first place.
Making rewards equal for both would’ve been faster and easier change than what was actually done.

There would be almost no incentive to do teamq. Last teamq had a bit of a population because people soloq’d it for its increased rewards.
A normal teamq wouldn’t allow people to solo it. Thus it would only have 2, 3 and 5-mans. It would need increased rewards to be somewhat attractive. And even then, I wonder how many full blown teams queued up at any point in time in the last iteration.

Match Making is bad because of Daily Class

A good solution might be adding more options for the daily (get x stomps, kill a ranger, etc) and make them random per person. You’d get less of the win as a specific class dailies and they would be different for everyone who gets them.

Just make the classes random for everyone. That would be the easiest and most efficient change.

‘Get x stomps’, ‘kill a ranger’ would just add more problems because people will play towards that goal.

We need soloQ back.
This game not Dota2 or other MOBA, we can’t farm 40 min and then win game solo, just because you carry. In GW2 sPvP premade have HUGE advantage, even 2-3 dudes in a party can roflstomp soloers from other team. Even if other team also have this 2-3 man party. And other party is just random people from HotM, who make premade just because “oh, we are dragons, we cool”. No voice, no communication. And vs this friends in TS.
Practice, Ranked and Unranked soloQ, Ranked and Unranked teamQ – it’s not so hard, but we want it. We need it.

Might have been better if it was like this initially, without soloq. Would have made the game healthier team-wise. Now we’re spoiled because of soloq and there is no turning back.

Good news! We’re getting close to the end of this current 6 month patching cycle! By February we should have a balance patch available!

WTS 2 happens in March. They won’t balance in February. Don’t expect anything before April.

Hmm, I don’t think so. They always ‘shave’, while it may change the meta, it won’t do it dramatically.

I trust them more in a teamfight than in rotating. Many players are somewhat mechanically skilled, but a lot of people aren’t that great on rotating/reinforcing/picking fights, etc (basically conquest)

^ Well, not rly. Top MMR players will have odds of winning at 99% all the time. Thus they’ll only be able to gain 1 LB point for each win. While other players, especially those in the sweet spot of MMR, will often get +1, +2 and sometimes +3 LB points.

That MMR sweetspot can’t exist in the long run.
It might exist for a while for some people with their MMR tanked for whatever reason, but if you’re consistently winning matches you were expected to lose, it’s just a matter of time for your MMR to grow and your predicted odds of winning to suffer a complete shift.

That’s true, but last leaderboards we’ve seen that MMR is very volatile. It might take 1 loss to be back at it. :p
But you’re right, in the end it should even out.

as a guy who solos a lot and a guy who plays with a LOT of people, I’d like to see solo ranked and unranked as an option.

Would it really be hard to jury rig the old solo queue system and add two buttons below ranked and unranked queue?

i think butch was trying to imply that, someone could simply be farming ladder points by fighting opponents not of their MMR level by queuing in certain hours of the day where stronger opponents do not queue.

Right, but because Justin said nothing about the MMRs possible being inaccurate, it’s natural to assume he thought the MMRs probably were accurate, or he would have said something about that as an explanation.

If you read his other comments on the matter, you’d see that he’s actively going through the data, asking players to report mismatches to see what’s going on, where it’s going wrong, etc.

Anyway, doesn’t matter.

Soloq was kinda bad with this sort of thing.

But this new system is an absolute joke.

Blow outs, blow outs everywhere.

Teams being stacked with premades against soloers. So on and so forth.

What a giant mess.

And the sad thing is they will never, EVER admit they screwed up royally.

They will just continue to ignore their own failures whilst endlessly tweaking a system that’s just flat out broken and will never be fixed with band aids being slapped over it over and over.

In all your threads, all your posts I only see complaints. Can you try to be constructive, for once?

You have to be careful using blow-out as an argument. Blow-outs will always happen, even if you have the perfect matchup according to the MMR/system.
Don’t you get blow-outs in other established pvp games with matchmaking? I sure do.

If it is a full team, like the living story stuff, and not just him, Evanm Grouch (cuz you know, Chap left) and that one kid that is on his place (Team lead or something), why did it take them year and a half to launch a borken matchmaking and another useless ladder, with no seasons or any kind of inniciative. And they can’t even fix the known issues, like que leaving not leaving the que…….

Fun fact, exactly a year ago they ran a twitch livestream, showing off prototype gamemodes. So it takes this full 50+ men team even more to actually release a new game mode.

And if his data, can’t show off the issues, well the data itself is wrong too.

You should see this system as phase 1 of leagues. They’re still working on leagues/seasons.

Those bugs will be fixed. Not as soon as you like apparently.

I think they confirmed EOTM took more than year to make. Dunno if it’s the same for pve/pvp maps. As game modes are more than just maps, you should expect that it takes quite some time. Those are developer realities (I’m no dev, that’s just what I hear people with experience say).

It isn’t a matter of pride, and it isn’t even just my call. The whole team talks about changes, and we have designers, and leads, and stakeholders.

Seems like a team. If we judge, based on Anet talking on the forums, there’s only about 10-20 people working at Anet.

And if you look at other reactions of him, in regards to the data, he acknowledges issues.
He looked at your data and didn’t see any issues. That doesn’t mean he denies there are greater issues concerning MM. It just means that the data doesn’t show the issue.

how about a totally separate queue for courtyard?

They are careful with separating queues, as it creates population issues. Even LoL doesn’t flood the game with gamemodes, instead they enable them temporarily.
But indeed, the situation with CY is suboptimal. Build templates might help solve the issue a bit, because you can change your builds quickly.

I’d argue that it does need an overhaul if it wants to cater to viewership. Seeing the timer run out, is not really exciting. Witnessing the snowball, is not really exciting (something which happens often in conquest). Watching a score creep to 500, not that exciting either.

Work can be done on the spectator/caster side of things. Video in video should be used in every tournaments as there’s always action on 2+ points. Camerawork could use work too, but they’re quite limited by the system I’d guess. Secondary objectives should be much more easy to follow (lord kills, boss kills, buffs, etc.).

Pure deathmatch is not good either. It might be fun for the players, 2v2/3v3, but that’s it. For the viewers it isn’t exciting either. Most games have objectives, as it creates depth and more exciting moments. Tangible objectives (opposed to a score) are easier to create tension and are thus more fun to spectate (bomb plants in cs:go, all the objectives in LoL, flag + lord in gw1, etc.).

Conquest creates depth, hence why being mechanically skilled is subpar to being ‘conquest’ skilled (rotations, etc.). It creates fun gameplay, etc. But the endgoal, reaching a 500 score, is just boring from a spectator point of view.

How to fix this? I don’t really know. Secondary objectives try to alleviate the problem a bit, but it’s lacking in that area. A fix for timer ends could be changing the ruleset to first kill or first teamwipe or so? :p It would be more exciting than just ending it right there and then (WTS finals had a timer run out, while TCG was having an epic comeback, if you did the math you could basically know 1 minute beforehand, that the game was over regardless of gameplay).

I am more interested in how to squeeze out 200 points against a skilled premade team. They almost always seem to wipe pug and keep it under 80 points. It’s a guaranteed -1 point each time your MMR gets high enough to have you slotted for death.

Please no, people will start adjusting their strats just to get to 100 points. We also want the leaderboards to be less grindy, so we don’t want to reward ‘playing good’ as much anymore. We need emphasis on wins.

Is it possible to implement a character change grace period, just like you would implement a DC grace period? This way, people can adjust their team comp pregame without being punished. This might alleviate some of the issues regarding class stacks/suboptimal team comps.

I hope people realize it’ll never be perfect. MMR is an indication of skill, nothing more. When I play LoL, CS:GO, etc., which are all established games with big populations, I still get matched up against 2+man teams, I still get complete blowouts, etc.
The only difference, imo, is that in those games you can carry much harder than in gw2. Which causes ‘less’ frustration all around.

Conquest overhaul would be needed to bring excitement to viewers. Seeing a timer run out or a pointtick towards 500 isn’t the most exciting thing. Conquest also favors snowballing, etc.
The biggest thing to become an esport is a big (pvp) playerbase, which gw2 lacks.
