Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
I appreciate that you are interested in finding out more of what will be in the new map, but we didn’t show anything about it in the trailer that could lead you to the conclusions here. We’ll be talking about it a lot more and showing it off soon. At the least I’d hope you can reserve judgement until then.
i think you would have more faith from the community if there was more interaction between the players and the wvw team. i know people insult for stupid reasons (OP for example), but that’s out of frustration. a more interactive relationship cuts down on frustration and will lead to a better experience.
if its anything like the current EotM though it WILL suck. that much i will agree with.
I remember a time where there was much more dev interaction in these parts. I guess the toxicity however made them pull back.
These threads sometimes….
Lol
Perhaps if it weren’t so terribly time gated it would “feel” less grindy, but that’s neither here nor there.
Isn’t a time gate anti-grind? :p It forces you to wait, which I agree isn’t too fun but I can understand the reasoning behind it. However it aint grindy in itself.
Again, it’s better to make a meaningful change instead of just a quick fix, no?
Anyway, pretty hostile thread. I’ll leave you guys be.
Colin, can you comment on a general time frame for this change? It sounds like you’re saying it won’t be until HoT is released, and that seems like a mistake.
Also, thank you very much for this update. This is extremely welcome news.
‘mistake’….
A mistake would be making no change. Don’t get too greedy.
Hmmm Colin removed his second response about him going to write an answer on the trait feedback thread. :p

So pretty……. Can’t wait for the jungle.
^ NPE will be getting changes in Q2 as confirmed by Gaile. Whether it’ll ‘fix’ the issues, remains to be seen. But I think, if you look at the massive feedback thread, they’re aware of the current issues.
Maybe they’ll open it up when people buy the expansion?
Anyway, if you’re new you shouldn’t care about it that much. Just play the game first, to lv 80 and finish the personal story. No matter what, until we have season 1 back there’ll be a hole in the story for newer players.
They changed from temporary (season 1) to permanent (season 2). Season 1 will be reworked and brought back to the game. There’s 3 ways (like others pointed out) to acces the living story content (which is only the story).
How much is the conversion atm? I guess it would be around 30g to unlock 1 episode. That’s not too bad. You can take your time and unlock them or pay with real money and unlock them right away. It’s just the story, you can still access everything else that came with it. And if you’re really dying to play the story content just team up with someone who has them.
Stronghold is a pvp gamemode. It’s not a WvW mode or your DM interpretation of GvG.
There are other threads already discussing the semantics of GvG. Because that’s what it is and what it’ll ever be.
They should allow deathmatches in Guild Halls and be done with it. Then the WvW crowd can stop kittening.
It’s confirmed from someone who was at the afterparty.
^ Again, you seem to have all the details. Enlighten me.
Why do people keep saying 1 zone? Like wtf…
^ It’s all about the details.
Expect more of that. However, I think the masteries will ease the people who don’t like it that much or aren’t that good at it. The gliders won’t let you die every time you fall and there will probably be other movement masteries to traverse the verticality and the maps.
Masteries will be PvE-wide, but some of them (such hang gliders) will only be usable in the Maguuma Jungle.
Specializations will very likely be game-wide.
Is it confirmed that you’ll only be able to use the gliders in the jungle?
I think they could allow it everywhere if it works like a parachute. It would basically be a fall dmg reduction with an animation. They said ‘gusts of wind’ would be needed to fly.

I think that’s a given, no?
Otherwise: Riot!
masteries are for maguuma and account bound
specializations are completely separate things.
Yeah I think this is correct. Although I think that they might also make certain masteries that work outside of maguuma. Both these systems are very vague at the moment, but they both seem like they would have lots of room the expand upon the concept. IE: I expect new specializations and masteries added after HoT either through Living Story or more expansions in the future.
Masteries will be game wide. Or atleast gathering the mastery points (but I guess that implies it’ll be useable outside the Maguuma too?).
In EQ2 I remember the “Meh, Guild Halls so what” response. But believe me. Once you have them in an active guild you will wonder at what you did before them. Crafting hubs all in one place for all guild members. Portals to dungeons, easier gathering together to run guild events. The only downside is that the present hubs used will become more or less deserted.
Gw1 didn’t become deserted. I think we’ll be fine.
Instant 80 probably :p. Depends on how I feel at that moment. Ima need to get that GS on my necro main first.
I guess hang gliders will work like a parachute unless you ‘find’ those gusts of winds they talked about. This way it could be used everywhere in the game without too much map problems.
Thought it would of came with HoT since guild halls only took around 3 months. :|
A CDI doesn’t indicate when they have started working on it. I’m pretty sure they’ve worked on guild halls before the CDI.
^ He posted a foto with colin and mike too. Still not proof they actually said it. But still, might want to start accepting the fact there’ll only be 1 spec.
It will however change the class mechanic. So I wonder if that spec will be limited to it’s weapon choice (staff for druid) or will it have the other weapons (< ranger) too? Will those weapon skills stay the same while under the new spec or will they change?
Still lots of possibilities for depth.
Apparently a mail has been send to everyone experiencing issues buying the game (about an hour ago). They also tweeted about it.
If they release this with only one specialization per class if could seriously damage the expansion in the eyes of the players. We want, no, demand, the horizontal progression and build diversity this game was supposed to ship with in the first place.
I would prefer they take the time to add two more specializations to each class, even if that means delaying release.
Entitled much?
We don’t know how deep the system goes. You might want to wait ‘till we have more info.
They said it’s gonna change the class mechanics. If they do 3 per class then that’s 27!!!! new class mechanics + the existing class mechanics (+ 9).
The major features have been announced. The details may and will make quite the difference in how deep it goes.
Well there is choice. You’re either a ranger or a druid. There is no advantage when playing a druid over a ranger. Class mechanics will be changed. But we have to wait for more info to see how deep it goes.
Edit: the term ‘specialization’ is confusing a lot of people.
We have no idea. You’ll have to wait for info. Info will be dripping in starting early febr.
There is already a thread about this discussion, which is mostly about semantics.
There’s GW1 GvG and there’s WvW GvG (should have called it guild DM or something).
Stronghold will be a mix of Gw1 Gvg (‘kill the GL’) and ‘other popular gamemodes’ (I guess MoBa).
^ The masteries will be game wide so that should be included too?
What if the Rev becomes meta? Should it be included too?
And the zones will have skills, traits, etc. linked to specs/masteries, etc. So it should be included too?
By your logic it should be free for all players.
I understand the issue but we’ll have to wait and see how Anet tackles the problem. They did say they wouldn’t want to split the playerbase.
It’s gonna come. But the only confirmation we have is that they’re working on it (like you said 8 months ago).
Build templates would be a gamewide (base and expansion) feature. It’s something we’ll see in a feature patch.
Entitled much….
You can return to gw1 if it bothers you that much. Cantha never left.
It’s a boxed expansion for which you’ll have to pay. That’s all we know atm.
You’ll have to wait for more info, just like the rest of us.
I’m just confirming that there’ll be a change.
I couldn’t care less about it, as I’m fine with the system and I mostly do Pvp.
There will always be grind. This discussion will continue to exist. People give different meanings to ‘grind’ and they all feel like what they do fits their definition.
If it bothers you that much, find another game (pref. not MMO).
People are already afraid for ‘mastery grind’. Lol…
^ It’s however confirmed a few weeks back (by Gaile) that we can expect changes in Q2 regarding the NPE feedback.
Just wait for the details, will you?
^ There’ll only be one specialization though (someone confirmed that on the afterparty). So you’ll have either ranger or druid (which are kinda 2 specs). Specs are supposedly going to change class mechanics, so we’ll have to see how deep the system goes.
Nope, no information about fractals/dungeons or raids atm. Might come when they talk about the ‘challenging group content’. You’ll have to wait a few weeks to be certain.

^ They did say it was inspired by gw1’s GvG (meets ‘other competitive and popular games’). That’s all I’m saying.

Please clarify ‘formal GvG elements’. There are a lot of definitions these days.
GW1 style? WvW style?
Stronghold is basically Gw2’s iteration.
Balancing is a myth anyway. People seem to complain about the stagnation the most. This will change things up atleast.
It really hinges on how much of a role NPCs play. If they just do one-off tasks, that’s fine. If they’re actively involved in combat, it’s a shame the PvP team wasted so many resources just to release a horrible mode no one will play.
It might attract a lot of other people (who don’t play conquest) though.
Anyway, I’m excited to see how it pans out.
One of Conquest’s problems is its focus on something as a boring as points (not the ones you hold, but the ones you get from 0-500). It’s just not fun as a viewer to watch a score tick to 500 and it’s prone to snowballing.
In Stronghold it’ll atleast be a GuildLord you’d have to kill (instead of aiming for the 500 mark). This alone should have interesting consequences for the gameplay and build choices. But I’m slightly worried about the ‘hiring soldiers’, (did I hear supply in that presentation too?) and treb gameplay.
Of course I will buy it. I don’t understand people who think 30$+ for an expansion is expensive. WoW:WoD is 44.95$ and that game has a freaking sub fee on top.
EotN was €30,-, for an expansion that has more then HoT yes, i find that really expensive.
Tell me what’ll be in HoT. You seem confident about your info.
with what they showed it has less, just look at what EotN has and compare that to what we know about HoT.
also, the €30,- is enough for an expansion, i really don’t care about any norm, expansions are worth this and no more.
You are coming to a conclusion based on info about EotN (after release: full details) compared to info about HoT (before release: info in ‘hypeformat’).
Well, maybe they’ll surprise you in a couple weeks. Lets hope.
Gw1 GvG would never work in GW2. People have to realize that.
Hopefully the GW2 interpretation (GW1 GvG meets MoBA) will be fun.
And the WvW’s iteration of GvG is just a deathmatch with numbers. DM isn’t that great either as a full fledged gamemode.
Well people have competitively done deathmatch gw2 since the game started, and there has been a large demand for systems in the game to progress this game mode, so id say that its pretty great to the playerbase. I mean in the end of the day, lots of guilds gvg because its fun, thats all that matters.
It doesn’t matter how intricate the game mode is or not, whether or not it even took skill. Its about fun. Most of PVE takes no skill and people still do that because they enjoy it.
The population that does GvG is marginal (which is normal as it’s not supported), however I realize that lots of people like the idea (GvG or broader: DM). But the moment it becomes a full fledged stand alone gamemode, it might go either way in terms of fun/popularity. There are not many games out there with pure DM as a core gamemode, almost all of them have other objectives. And they have their reasons for that.
Deathmatch works much better when in small numbers, i.e arenas (2v2, 3v3).
Stronghold seems to be more open to ‘DM encounters’ as opposed to conquest where you are forced to hold points which completely changes the dynamics (from builds to rotations). We have to wait for more details but the main goal will atleast be killing the GL as in gw1. This might open up the gameplay for more skirmishes, splits, teamfights, basically more fights no points. I’m excited to see how it’ll pan out, though I’m already afraid for how the treb and NPC (‘hiring soldiers’???) will influence the gamemode.
^ There’ll be more than one map. “Explore new open world jungle mapS.”

Why would they spoil everything and let the hype die down?
They’ll be releasing info about the new features and probably other new exciting stuff in the coming weeks. They want the hype train to keep riding, I’d guess. Marketing 101.
Of course I will buy it. I don’t understand people who think 30$+ for an expansion is expensive. WoW:WoD is 44.95$ and that game has a freaking sub fee on top.

No news indeed.
You’ll have to wait a few more weeks to get a confirmation on that.
