Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
Guild halls, progression, endgame, precursor crafting, etc.
You could say this for everything. All these things have been requested for a long time. Did they ever say that precursor crafting would be ‘free’?
Hang gliding. It’s too much fun to fly.
There will be a kittenload of rage because GW2 tries to cater to everyone. Any form of progression gets raged upon by the community.
I’m looking forward to this system. I’m not looking forward to the community rage.
Alright, thx. I’ll check it out.
I got my laptop back from the apple store after they fixed my laptop issues (hard drive cable was broken). When I started GW2 however, I got the normal 30 fps initially but 1-2 minutes later it had dropped to 10 fps. If I do anything combat related it’ll drop to even 6 fps. Before my laptop issues I didn’t have problems with running GW2.
The only difference that I notice is that I don’t hear my fans running anymore, but I guess that’s because they cleaned it?
I tried some of the stuff like disk repair, SMC reset, etc. But I can’t seem to fix it. Tried the terminal repair command but it couldn’t find the folder, so that’s the only thing from the stickied list that I haven’t done yet.
My laptop:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, medio 2012)
2,5 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
My laptop is fully updated and runs Yosemite.
^ and that’s why I would like stronghold to be guild only. It’s a teamgame after all and it is very hard to carry, especially in a (MMO) conquest gamemode. There would be much less (game quality)complaints if there was no soloq experience.
But, don’t get me wrong. I like that we are able to soloq, it makes pvp much more accessible. But it’s also the cause of a lot of problems.
It’s a garbage system, based on games played and time put in.
I personally don’t know of any other game, that gives you points towards the leader board for losing a match.
He was talking about the MMR though, not the leaderboard. The leaderboard will change in the future.
As for the MMR. If you had such bad matches then post in the thread “tracking bad matches” which is stickied. But be aware, it’s not because you lose that the system is bad.
So you’ll have to provide a bit more info.
Release date depends on how beta goes. Beta starts ‘soon’ after pax east/rezzed (14-16march?). I’d say we’ll get it sooner than december.
Stronghold preview on stream this saturday.
Info starts rolling 13 febr (confirmed on ready up).
Expect some more teasers daily (my guess)
Because some people hate jumping puzzles, some are bad at it. The maps will have heavy verticality. The gliders will ease players into those maps while providing a fun gimmick.
But arena’s would fix that, right? /s
I don’t think arenas would fix it, but I do think leagues would fix it.
/s = sarcasm
I wouldn’t mind arena’s, just to satisfy the crowd. Just like I wouldn’t mind the DM that the WvW GvG crowd is asking for.
However, from a dev perspective I’d see quite a few problems. Population issues, resource spread to thin, balance issues, etc.
But I agree, we still need leagues. This would provide us with a competitive (ingame) rewarding infrastructure, where time and skill are rewarded. It would also alleviate some of the queueing woes as it would hardfilter (I guess?) people in those leagues.
But I still can’t see how we can have a solid league structure when teams/solo’s are in one queue.
The same teams with the same seeding because the competitive scene is tiny and there is 0 population growth!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
But arena’s would fix that, right? /s
Ready up said there’ll be a preview (of stronghold I guess?) on the qualifier stream which is on 7th febr.
We’ve had a week of interviews with little bits of info here and there. I assume they’ll try to keep the hype at the same level the coming weeks. Thus moar hints and tidbits (I hope ).
Not only does it take away people from other modes it also takes away resources.
And you can say you just want the infrastructure and be done with it, but that won’t be the case. Soon those players will ask balance changes in regards to arena gameplay, more features, etc.
There is a lot to consider.
I guess it was TKay? One of the more renowned trolls.
We’ll get some more hints and teasers this week. Febr 13 we’ll start getting juicier info (atleast regarding pvp side of things).
The game survived 2.5 years with no pvp infrastructure and without arena’s. It’ll continue to do so, even more with a new gamemode coming.
You got an answer on the matter, that’s more than I expected.
Too many gamemodes can and will hurt the game. (Gw1 is an example of that)
You guys found the expansion patchtnotes regarding WvW somewhere? /s
I’ll pick it up without a doubt, because a new class and new specializations are just what the doctor ordered. Also, I have (probably too much) faith in ANet that they’ll pull through on their heavily-emphasized promise of ultimately challenging content in GW2 with this expansion. Whatever form that takes, I know I want to be a part of it.
It’s insane how they keep emphasizing it. In every interview, regardless if its on topic of the question asked, they bring it up. :p
I rly wonder what it’ll be.
If they don’t want a riot than yes HoT will be on mac.
The base game is, no reason for the expansion not to be.
^ I didn’t really talk about arenas. I replied on the fact that he claims that there are more good players than bad players solely because of mechanical skill. Which I don’t agree with for the reasons I stated.
As for arenas, I have to disagree. There is not a single game with deathmatch (which arenas are) as it’s primary gamemode that is esports except WoW. And WoW is solely an ‘esport’ because they have a huge population.
Anyway, I touched upon the matter in other threads. No need to get back into that discussion here.
GW1 Fort Aspenwood was awesome – GW2 Stronghold mode cannot fail. NPC escort, supply running and choosing how to spend it, gates, pushing into enemy base to kill key NPC… sounds like it’s got everything that made FA good, assuming there’s no silly restriction like guilds or pre-mades.
I hope and I think it will be restricted to guilds/(premades?).
Arena doesn’t work as an e-sport, it is too simplistic and too low skilled
If you’re talking about this game’s pvp then I’m questioning your knowledge of it. The game, with such build diversity, is so complicated that there are numerous more Bad players than good ones regardless if they have a meta build.
Mechanically there’s a pretty low skill ceiling (< not so good thing) and very low skill floor (< good thing). The good ones vs the bad ones is mostly because of more subtle things: i.e. rotating, picking right fights, reinforcing, cleave or stomp, etc.
I mean, mechanically speaking, it’s mostly cooldown management, efficient skill rotations and weighing the opportunity costs.

Regarding those maps:
Colin refers to ‘Heart of Maguuma’ as a region.
He also speaks about mapS.
There will be fewer of them because they will be much deeper (3 biomes filled with content).
You can adjust your expectations accordingly.
I don’t mind less maps if it means deeper. I’m excited to see what they’ve come up with in regards to the maps.
Edit: forgot the link
dont get me wrong though! i WANT the points accountwide, but i don’t want that the abilitys i choose for one char are automatically on all my other chars too.
that eliminates the individuality of each of my chars imo.
That’s a valid point.
However I think the reasoning might be that by making the point allocation also accountwide, it will force you a little bit to make choices. Which can be a good thing (we are already extremely free in regard to pretty much everything). Otherwise you could just go for lets say 100 points and allocate them differently on each of your chars and be done with it.
I am not really a fan of a account wide mastery system at all. They said they wanted that we are able to level our characters after getting to the max level right? So why then make a account wide mastery system? I mean it makes no sense that if I earned 100 points on my war, my new necromancer can use those 100 points instantly. So a character that never has been in the jungle can already be a master in surviving there.
If they are going to implement this account wide mastery system then I prefer the way you described (same for all the characters).
The outrage would be insane by the GW2’s population. More often than not every form of meaningful progression is seen as grind.
I’m already worried for the community’s outlash on the mastery system as content will be gated behind it.
From the sound of it, I however think it’ll be a fun system.
What GW2 PvP needs right now is more and easy accessibility not the other way around.
Except for another ranked split (solo/team), they couldn’t possibly make it more accessible (/enjoyable). Or what do you suggest?
I’d say not everything has to be fully accessible, it might be a disadvantage but there could be advantages to it also.
A decent guild leaderboard (name, rating, stats?, etc;), possibly in-game, built upon the feedback of the current LB’s used for conquest (MMR and LP point gain/loss) would be awesome.
They can incorporate the guesting system from gw1 to allow pugs, however would this be really necessary as we can be in 5 guilds and it’s easy to join/leave one? Would this hurt the integrity of the leaderboards?
Guess we’ll have to wait until we get some info.
Do you think you’re high MMR? That might be the cause. 6-8 minutes isn’t excessive in the current iteration.
I know how GW1 GvG work and I never got to play it because I need 7 others people to play with me and they have to be 2 monks, 2 something, 2 something, flag runner and all.
And that was the reason why GW2 pvp did not have that. The Fundamental of sPvP is to play whenever you want and however you want.
How many time do you see pro streamer play with the same 4 others players of his team everyday?
Indeed, it suffers in accessibility but it would increase the quality and the competition. They said there’ll be a guild leaderboard so to open up the gamemode they would need to split it in 2 (solo/guild). There are population issues that they have to consider.

^ You can see the unlocking part as the journey towards your precursor. It’s basically the same thing as what the collection will let you do, no?
I am pretty sure Stronghold isn’t tying to Guild LB.
Can not play pvp because I am not in a guild?
Can not play pvp because I don’t have 9 other people on at the same time and place?
That’s how GvG worked in GW1. You could guest to guilds though and participate in that way. That’s how HA worked in GW1, but here you could form PUG’s too.
I would like to see a gamemode that’s restricted like that. It’s a teamgame after all.
A lot of the kittening comes from solo’ing in a team gamemode. It also killed the need to form teams and had an effect on the competitive scene (ofc. there are other reasons too).
Someone from Anet confirmed it’s the merge between daily and monthly. So the cap is now 15k.
Because they emphasized the guild LB for stronghold, I assume there won’t be soloq for it. Just a guess.
Yes they didn’t nerf it. Everyone is very confused :P
On a side not, as always you make very good points lordrosicky. I must say I really respect your forum posting abilities. You are a true icon of these forums.
Original use of your second account.
I liked that interview. The only thing that has me worried is the rage that will come of their approach on masteries and the content. I need more details on it but I don’t mind it atm.
However, these days any form of ‘meaningful progression’ is seen as grind.
A kittenstorm is coming.
Info is coming starting next week (said Gaile).
Playable demo in 6 weeks (how expansive remains to be seen).
“It’s going to go fast now”.
I think them saying we haven’t pinned this and that down is just them being cautious with the info. We know Anet likes to control the info output (and thus the hype?). Just step of the hype train and wait for the info to drip in. The ‘deep dives’ are coming soon.
LS was an epic story line? I guess you’re speaking for you own view of it.
I agree with you. Besides, they expect to earn much more on Q3-Q4 of 2015.. so I think it’s safe to assume it’s the expansion.
although I’d very much like it earlierANet’s expected earning reports for the 2015 Q3 is really the only thing that could logically be called “evidence” for a release date.
Except… It’s not Anet’s expected earning reports. It’s from an investor firm. Their guess is as good as ours.
Deathmatches are fun, especially in the arena format (2v2, 3v3). However they are not esports material. They are not fun to watch. Look at how many games are true DM and are esports. Only wow is and that’s because it’s a massively populated game with a 10year history behind it. Honestly, have you ever watched Wow arena’s? It’s a big, boring clusterkitten.
An important part of esports is the viewership.
Conquest, in it’s current iteration in gw2, will never be a ‘durable’ esport. The biggest contributor to that fact is the scoring mechanic. You’re basically watching the game go from 0 – 500. The possibilities for excitement are very limited (both teams reaching 400+, timer running out which honestly isn’t a great ‘feature’, etc.). The gameplay is also very fast paced and very subtle which makes it hard to pick up on great plays. Just listen to the shoutcasters. The commentary is mostly limited to some stomp, portal, rez, point cap hype. The great rotations of teams and certain spikes are to hard to catch on or are just simply not that exciting to point out.
Stronghold, while we have almost no info, will replace that 0-500 scoring mechanic by a clear, tangible object: the guild lord. This alone should make it more exciting to watch.
And about Wow being the only MMO esport. False, GW1 GvG was very much an esport.
Why don’t you play in ranked instead of unranked, then?
As he’ll encounter the same things there, and he’ll probably will be even more annoyed because it’ll hurt his ranking.
It’s offseason, who cares about ranking?
Even when it’s season, who cares about ranking? The leaderboard is still a grind atm. Until they change that it doesn’t matter that much.
I thought there is a r10 (or 20?) req to queue ranked? Not sure about it though.
Why don’t you play in ranked instead of unranked, then?
If you’re going for the Twice Told Legend title…. You’re still screwed.
It’s an achievement. You’re screwing yourself if you want it that badly.
I predict early April-May. Any longer and they will struggle with filler content in the wait for HoT. Plus a demo in 6 weeks suggests its almost ready to put out.
A demo would suggest nothing in my eyes
A demo suggests its in a playable form. As in its mostly done. With only bug fixes and minor additions to go. This has been worked on since release. Not sure why people believe they would announce it over half a year before its ready.
It depends on the demo, kinda. If they only give you 1 zone and the revenant to play with or let you play ‘everything’.
Meh what does it matter. We’ll see in 6 weeks.
^ Again, you seem to have all the details. Enlighten me.
Why do people keep saying 1 zone? Like wtf…
From this interview:
Colin Johanson says: “From an environment standpoint, this is the largest amount of vertical space we have ever built in the game. Our map spans huge distances up in the air. We are actually able to climb to the very top of the jungle and look down on everyone below. We’re adding hang gliding, so you won’t have to fall to your death every time. We’re adding a lot of abilities that will take advantage of the amount of 3D space that we’ll make use of as part of these adventures in the jungle.”
He says map. Not maps.
He doesn’t say zone, area, region, biome or anything else. He says Map.
Take that as you will of course.
“Explore new open world jungle maps.”

^ A dungeon could also be ‘in the jungle’. It’s still not confirmed to be open world only.

A few mentions of ‘challenging group content’. Whatever that might be, it’ll be tied in with the masteries.
