Please remove the decoration block from the small temple area at the end of the lost precipice jumping puzzle.

I’ve wanted to decorate it for so long and make it my own personal house, but it’s considered part of the jumping puzzle and won’t allow any decoration placing!

Official Feedback Thread: Episode 3 -- A Crack in the Ice

Not fond of the cinematic ending. I’m sure it will lead up to something but I would rather have revisited Taimi one last time or something instead. I guess that’s better to start off in a different episode.

Braham really isn’t a likeable character. And this episode just pushed him further into the not like category.

The Aurene challenges weren’t the most exciting thing ever, but I still enjoyed them and think they were a nice fun break from where the story has been so far. Can’t wait to get the mini!!

The new map is beautiful, but I’d honestly be content if it were even just purely forest and hot springs assets. I can’t help but think that the forest assets and some of the dialogue hint at Isle of Janthir as the next new map.

My biggest complaint by far, non-related to the fact that the episodes do seem incredibly short despite having to wait 2 or 3 months at a time for them, is the fact that this map is horrible to get around in. As many others have said, the ley line is so high up and pointless many people don’t even use it. The updrafts and the thermal things aren’t very useful either. I think some of this could be resolved by adding in waypoints in the more isolated areas, like the forest and the hot springs specifically because they are areas of the map that aren’t really used for anything.

There are also a lot of relatively empty spaces in the new map. There isn’t some large meta in the forest where we fight a champion, there isn’t really anything in the Wayward Cave despite it being loaded to the brim with svanir and icebrood and a random champion in the middle. It seems like a lot of these areas could use some more events to pull people in, especially given how beautiful these new assets are.

I somehow guessed on the Champ Ice beast fight and got it right. Don’t even know how considering there was no explanation. That was a little strange.

Agreed. I’d honestly there just be more waypoints though. Definitely somekind of contestable waypoint in the hot springs and one in the woods. They’re my two favorite areas but they’re kind of isolated.

Anyone else find Rox’s talk about picturing a beach when she was frozen in the ice kind of strange or out of place? Like they drew quite a bit of attention at that moment to her experience of being frozen.

Could this be a subtle hint at either future locations or somekind of wonky Mordremoth-mind meets Steve foreshadowing? I’m probably reading a lot into it but it just seemed out of place to me…

New Guild Hall

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: cptaylor.2670

cptaylor.2670

I like the idea and had a slight feeling when I saw the map that this might be possible.

I’m leaning towards not possible, but it would be a great theme in contrast with the other two guild halls.

I’d love to claim a third for my guild to have one on my own, but then I consider how much it would cost to upgrade all of these buildings!

Would still love it though. I’m not big on Norn architecture but I can’t think of anything else that would fit the area. Perhaps some new Kodan/Norn themed buildings nestled within a giant forest using the new maps forest assets? Maybe even a giant sprawling city built into the trees or around the trees. I always loved the way Arenanet built some of the bandit camp tree houses.

Just please, if they’re going to do this, update scribing and reduce the cost of guild hall upgrades! lol

Honestly though, it kind of feels like they’ve abandoned the guild hall aspect of this expansion. They still haven’t done anything with the hidden room under the crystal in the Gilded Hollow or the updraft near the roof of the cave. So it kind of seems like due to player disinterest they haven’t felt like investing the resources.

Partially due to the cost of the upgrades, the complexity of scribing, and the lack of use of guild halls outside of meeting up for guild missions, gathering nodes, and obtaining buffs from the inn. I think if they made a few changes to some of these systems guild halls would see a little more interest, and if they added in something like an in-guild hall mission implementing a placeable treasure chest, obstacle course, or spawnable boss it might give people more of a reason to spend more time in them or invest more into this feature of the game.

It’s one of the reasons I’ve stayed hooked on Guild Wars 2 where in the past I didn’t, so it’s a shame to see this aspect of the game be overlooked aside from a few random decorations being added here and there for sometimes outrageously demanding costs.

[Suggestions] Quality of Life Changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cptaylor.2670

cptaylor.2670

I’m sure these have all been mentioned before, but my major quality of life gripes stem from scribing and guild hall decorations.

They’re still really costly for one individual, such as myself, who happens to be the sole decorator of not one but two guild halls.

Along with the cost of certain decorations from the amount of crafted hammers, to the amount of smaller items you need for the finishing kits, you can quickly rack up a 4 gold debt just to make a single Ascolonian Tree. (Price of evergreen lodestone included which seems to be a rather rare drop compared to the mordrem lodestones which basically have no use and consequently no value. Perhaps add a Magumma style tree to use the lodestone?)

Another significant thing I think frightens a lot of people away from this aspect of the game and guild halls in general is the complexity of scribing. I go through so many windows inside windows inside windows crafting one decoration I half expect Leonardo DiCaprio to pop out of one sending me a link to Never Gonna Give You Up. Too. Many. Windows.!

Another great thing would be a reduction in the cost of fragments of solid ocean. They’re a great relic sink for someone who does fractals religiously or who has a ton of them saved up from years of running them, but for a single person to acquire enough to make a single SMALL hologram, it becomes a month long process. Is it too much to reduce the cost of the fragments to 15 fractal relics instead of 150? So it evens out at 1 pristine equals 1 fragment? Would make it much more reasonable for someone like myself to be able to make a really great jumping puzzle or bonus area in the guild hall.
Perhaps even tokens that reward you with a specific redeemable decoration from daily fractal chests?

I always look forward to updates because there seems to be at least a couple decorations added here and there, but there isn’t a huge variety of anything other than potted plants which take so much gold to make that they aren’t worth the investment. The decorations that are great are TOO MUCH of an investment whether it be time or resources.

It seems the devs have noticed that there is a good chunk of the playerbase that is interested in decorations whether it be for aesthetics or jumping puzzles and it really gained popularity due to the super adventure box items. But the reason the super adventure box decorations were so successful was not only because they were larger items and had more variety, but also because they were significantly easier to obtain and cheaper to make.

I can understand the whole activity being a guild project, but to expect guild contribution to be included in the effort to obtain the decorations is a bit out of touch with reality. Especially when many of the items you need to craft the decoration are account bound.

Not many people in a guild are going to want to contribute to something they’re disinterested in either.

Guild hall upgrades such as keg requirements are insanely expensive, but are far more reasonable in terms of guild contribution and are thus more easily overlooked.

Wintersday drops mid December. There is a likelihood that Episode 3 will drop next week or the week after. Considering there’s now a 1/2 price sale that ends the 22nd, that lends to the likelihood that Episode 3 is soon.

It’s more likely, that, as usual, they will use Wintersday as a convenient excuse to delay the episode til January.

Honestly, I find it more likely that Wintersday and the season update will be one in the same. Assuming we’re following up with Braham and the quote that Jormag is also active, it could be an appropriate time to wrap them both up into one tidy patch.

I was running the labyrinth earlier opening up my ToT bags and realized that it would be a nice addition if the loot alerts in the chat box were color coded to match the rarity of the item. Even though it shows you on the right as you open them, it often scrolls so fast that you may overlook something or only catch a quick glimpse of some rarer item. It’s far easier to scroll back through chat and quickly sift through what you received before doing inventory management.

Just a small quality of life improvement and definitely something I can live without, but it would be a nice change.

What programs do you use to create your environments? Do you model the cliffs and rocks as large asset packages and then drop them into a game engine or does your game engine give you more terrain options that let you create some of the cliffs and caves?

Just curious because I’d like to make a little fantasy world of my own and love the realistic style of the Tyria environments but using a free Unity gives few options for terrain editing.

Have tried modeling a sheet rock cliff platform similar to the ones in some of the desert areas and Maguma, but just looking at it makes me cringe knowing all the work that’s going to be put into texturing it and knowing it’s only one small piece.

Also wanted to make a large cavern area with a city similar to the Gilded Hollow, but unity doesn’t give the option for anykind of cave editing which means most of it will involve modeling.

Think we’ll get any? We get a few things here and there and the memorials were nice, but I’m still hoping for a few exciting new things. It seems like outside of occasional decorations being added the concept has been kind of neglected.

Like the crystal for example? And why it’s “special.”

At the very least I’m hoping for a reduction in the cost of creating the fractal decorations, from the fragments needed to the other items.

And still holding out for somekind of craftable or placeable asuran portals that allow you to put a brief description of where they lead or something. Would be great to place some in the harder to reach areas of the guild halls.

Also strange that we still haven’t had anything added into the Guilded Hollow that activates that updraft near the roof, or allows entry into the room under the crystal.

Can we add in a couple of Fractal Guild missions to liven things up? And have them auto-deposit a set number of fragments of solid ocean as one of the rewards for completion?

Difference in the two games mostly. WoW is developed by Battle.net and as you can infer by the name, it specializes in competition and setting player against player. It’s not surprising that people in a game that emphasizes competition are less helpful and pleasant. That game has taught the players that everyone else on their map is in competition for their mobs, loot and nodes. This game specializes in cooperation and actively encourages people to help each other and want to see others on their maps.

Sure, but the toxicity doesn’t end with the pvp portion of the game. The game in general seems to attract the worst of the worst.

My personal theory is that the design of the game itself with its minimal focus of raids/pvp/dungeons and extreme individual progress treadmill leaves many people with the experience of having a job but too blinded by addiction to admit that they’re no longer having fun. So what do they do next? Meaninglessly attack people in trade chat, give sarcastic responses to even the most basic questions that could be answered in the same number of characters or less, and essentially pick at each other out of either boredom or frustration.

Just MY personal theory, so I’m not listing it as fact. I just honestly can’t say that I’ve ever had that experience in abundance within Guild Wars 2 outside of pvp and raids. Perhaps I have and I didn’t take it to heart too much because I knew there were other avenues of the game in which I could seek enjoyment.

Just a brief post inspired by my time playing in the Legion beta.

Thank you to the majority of the community whom play this game. It is nice to know that despite whatever animosity there is with the game itself at times, the players are typically far more pleasant and mature than those of other mmo’s, specifically world of Warcraft.

I don’t even think I would need two hands to count the number of times I have been genuinely put off by people in this game, (outside of ranked pvp seasons), and think it is not only a combination of the people this game attracts but the way the game is designed. I think Arenanet has always strived to create a game in which toxicity had little room to spread, and it does wonders for player enjoyment.

In anycase, thank you, and be sure to keep this game in a positive direction by helping whomever you can!

Given the heavy correlation between the raid and the living story, it might have been nice to have had a much longer story in the form of personal story scenarios in which we first go through at least some of the bosses in the raid with a group of npc’s and maybe only 1 or 2 of the mechanics of each boss. That way people would have not only gotten to experience the raid atmosphere, learned some base mechanics, and been more attuned with how it relates to the living season 3.

I’ve already shared my opinion in other threads, but as a recap to the pve portion that I enjoy the most:

The story instance encounters could use a little tuning in terms of knowing what to do with the ancient magic and the tethers to the bloodstones being really short.

The story itself seemed really short. I enjoyed that you didn’t have to go back and forth to 10 different zones and talk to random people, but with it being so quick and to the point it felt a little rushed. (Like the airship transition from Rata Novus.) This isn’t bad, but when the story episodes themselves are few in numbers it really makes the chapter go by really quick.

I have to agree about the reveal in the last episode being a little lackluster. I think the biggest issue for me during that reveal was that my character was stuck on the ground while all of the dialog was occurring on the wall. Perhaps a zoom in during that part to actually see the two conversing before he just poofs into thin air and the episode is over?

Bloodstone Fen is an interesting map, but it seems the most rushed out of all of it. It seems like a lot of current event .. events.. such as the white mantle shield guys on the ground that are just an endless mob grind and tossing of crystals. The other events with the ghosts being rather… uneventful? Just tracking them down and killing them for currency I guess.

The jade construct event kind of seeming like Gherent in the fact that you have to kill all of them to fight the final boss, which is the Vale Guardian who seems to have dismal loot compared to the effort you have to put in to even get him to spawn.

The random champ events on the floating islands aren’t the most exciting either.

I like the idea and the visuals of the map, but it just seems extremely small with a lot of empty space where there are copy pasted white mantle mobs every 10 feet for seemingly no reason. (They are easy to kill which is nice.)

All in all the map just seems too small with too few events to become anything as replayable as Drytop or Silverwastes. It really just seems like a grind map where you can freely glide around for fun.

Also, no portal to the map for alts? Having to buy the teleport with currency? Just another thing that made it seemed kind of rushed. The stairwell in the bloodstone maw seems like it could be cleaned up a bit and lead to Verdant Brink, but I suppose the fear of that is breaking immersion when we suddenly find a portal that wasn’t there before?

I’ll have to try out the new fractal and pvp map later before I can speak for those.

Yeah, the verticality and design of the map are interesting, but there is a lot of negative space. There are a lot of empty areas where there are just mobs pasted here and there aren’t that many events. The ones that are there aren’t extremely interesting. They kind of seem like a culmination of current events copy and pasted into the map. That’s a bit harsh, I know, but once you play through it there doesn’t seem to be much drawing you back in. At least not for me anyway.

When I’m in the map, I’m just seeing a few events here and there, a lot of places to glide from, and a bunch of random easy to beat down mobs that drop 1 or 2 of a currency I’m going to need THOUSANDS of. So in short it really just seems like a farm map for mats and currency for new stat ascended pieces. Which is good, but in comparison to something like the Silverwastes that is still one of the most populated to this day it doesn’t hold much to it.

It’s definitely a story device map, and probably meant to include non-raiders or get a taste of the raid’s atmosphere, but is it enough to hold us over for 3 months until we may or may not get another map?

Are they all going to be this size?

I’ve been posting a lot of negative things about the content, and I’m trying not to be too negative because I still enjoy the game and the detail they put into it… but I am a little underwhelmed.

Perhaps the new fractal and pvp map will make up for some of my disappointment.

Yeah, I definitely think the lack of explanation was a little… eh… Even playing in the open world I’m still not even really sure what the special action key does.

But definitely both fights involving the bloodstone tethers were a terrible experience. I think it would be a lot better in general if the tethers extended further. The fact that it slows you down and does damage to you, with countless mobs spawning endlessly and the fact that the boss knocks you back if you’re even a centimeter too close makes it more difficult than it needs to be. The final boss especially, although having 4 bloodstones to tether to, is negated by the fact that the tethers only reach so far while you the boss is in the middle of them WHILE you have to avoid being practically one shot by his whirlwind.

If I weren’t on my thief and able to vault to the location to set myself up for passing the mob through the tether, I’m not sure how I would have completed them.

Fairly certain I was using the special action button wrong anyway, but without knowing entirely what it does or how to appropriately use it makes it the encounters a little frustrating.

Speculation on the significance of Taimi incubating the chak organ?

Wild theory here, but the chak organ isn’t being affected by the blighting pod liquid, which leads me to believe it can’t be. (Yes it’s just an organ, but still.. why so much focus on that if it meant nothing?)

Did Taimi discover that the chak are actually minions of Primordus while we were off in Bloodstone? Is that how she came to the realization that Primordus has “reemerged?”

And is that final statement about Primordus a hint or just a red herring?

Thoughts?

We have Brann wandering off in the mountains and foreshadowing of Jormag, Primordus activity, and the already existing hints at a direction towards Kralk?

Why are we getting so many directions towards these three dragons? Is it a plot device to keep people guessing?

This is a crazy theory, but it seems strange that we have all of these events relating to the known elder dragons that are left, but nothing is going on with the deep sea dragon? I’m still wondering if all of these aren’t just events to keep the element of surprise for our next dragon target to be the deep sea dragon. Nobody expects it because it seems to be intentionally kept out of the story. (Is this the dev’s not including it because they haven’t really put that much thought into the deep sea dragon, or have they and this is their way of keeping it a surprise?)

I like the aspect of flight in the new map, but the map itself seems to lack something for me. It just doesn’t have a whole lot going on other than visually. The depth makes it a lot larger than I was expecting when I saw in the map, but there isn’t really a whole lot to the map other than a few repetitive and slightly imo rather unengaging events along with 1000’s of mobs scattered all over the place for seemingly no reason.

I do like that these mobs don’t stomp you into the ground and are easy to round up and farm, but it just seems like the whole point of this zone is to do nothing but just that… farm unbound magic through the few events it has and grinding mobs.

I haven’t done the Chaos Isles yet, but I’m looking forward to trying them out.

As far as the living story goes, the lack of achievements doesn’t really bother me but the chapter itself seemed a lot shorter than I had anticipated. I’m already like 3 achievements away from the bloodstone crown reward and aside from the two big reveals in the final scenario there wasn’t quite as much summed up as I was expecting.

I think the biggest thing for me is just that it’s been so long without any new story that I was expecting more than I should have. And as far as the whole patch goes, it just seems like quality of life improvements (although nice) are taking kind of the forefront yet again.

People mention that these improvements make it easier for content implementation down the road, but how many of these improvements have we had without really seeing how they’ve significantly aided in that process? I don’t know.

I’m not disappointed with the patch, but I was expecting a bit more.

I want a healing elite spec for thief. Or maybe something stealth related with reveal immunity (too much? you wouldn’t have three dodges to go along with it)? Maybe a wand and called a Shadowmancer where the thief becomes a master of shadow magic. Not just for attacking but also a general utility and healing spec too and can be traited for good heals, those you stealth also have reveal immunity, etc., for grandmaster traits.

I’m honestly kind of surprised Daredevil doesn’t have more of a monk build to it that heals based on damage dealt.

If thieves get anything though I’d imagine it would be a rifle for more of a sniper spec. We’ve never really had a truly ranged spec other than pistol/pistol and it would still keep the profession in the physical damage category.

Old habits are hard to break, I guess. My philosophy is that it’s none of my business to care to interject on another’s preferences so long as such relationships are responsible ones and all parties understand and the significance of intimacy and agree with it.

The nature of his and Roy’s relationship is kind of ambiguous. Not to mention Roy is dead. It isn’t enough!

We get to see Caithe and Faolin, Kash and what’s her name seemingly non-stop but the only gay male character we can reference is a norn (animal activist which I can appreciate) whose partner was eaten alive and he’s not even all that upset about it?

tsk tsk

Commander armor stats

Do the leystone have commander stats? Or are they just wanderer’s? I do agree that the recipes are entirely too rare. I don’t think I’ve ever actually had a recipe book drop for commander stats.

Chak hate

I hated them at first. But nothing fuels my hatred as much as the Mushrooms. By far the deadliest mobs in all of Heart of Thorns. At least if you pull more than 2 of them.

I actually kind of like pocket raptors now. I almost feel guilty when I vault and one shot them all.

The sharpshooter mordrem and shadowleaper frogs are also quite annoying. I think there has probably been more deaths to sharpshooter ground lazer of doom than to any other mob in this expansion. (Outside of raid bosses.)

Standing near the chak egg things regens health and cools your rifle as well I believe. But it is difficult. I find myself running out of Chak before the time runs out to get Gold before the actual gun overheats.

One thing I think makes a big difference is rounding them up and using the terrain to make them all run a certain path, then lay down the flamewall before they come after you. Then use the flamethrower I guess. I don’t know. I don’t seem to do too much damage. Make sure you use the leap skill twice if you see a big blob of them and don’t want to spend time rounding them up. Just leap 3, then press it again to leap back out for 2x damage.

I’ve yet to get gold in it but with the time I spent on haywire punchomatic I couldn’t be bothered to do it too much.

Still need 3 points for forsaken magic. RIP

Would be nice to see a few gay male couples though. I feel like every corner I turn I’m running into a lesbian couple.

That shaman datamined somekind of white mantle outfit, but I’m not sure if he found any strings pertaining to it being accessible by players.

I would like one on one hand, and on the other it would be a bit hypocritical and treasonous to wear one.

Would be kind of cool to get an armor weight variation though. I kind of gave up on hoping for cool npc gear a long time ago when I waited and waited for Exalted themed armor sets to be released and they never did.

Anyone Else getting Bored

Up until a few days ago I could always find something to do. But now I’m extremely bored. Now I’m to the point where I just randomly redo decorations in my guild halls for a little excitement.

I’ve also noticed a lot less people in my main guild online lately. Guild missions used to have easily 15 people or more each Tuesday and last couple weeks we haven’t been able to do bounties because we haven’t had enough people.

Hope something is coming soon.

It’s at the point now where I’d be excited to see another gemstore outfit or weapon set. cringe

I highly suggest not doing Fungus Among Us then. That one is still the absolute worst. Well, I don’t know, Shooting Gallery is pretty craptastic too.

I’ve managed to get Gold in the car racing one, Bugs in the Branches, and Grub Pit. I think that’s about it. Oh, and I think the chak robot one. Came somewhat close in Floor is Lava though. It’s not too bad. You just have to have a good path I guess.

I think the next expansion is about Water

I’m not sure an under sea expansion will ever hit, the majority hate underwater and seem to have this strange awareness issue with 3d content..

That and the devs really seem to have abandoned underwater in many ways, lack of it in hot, lack of mechanics in Revenant etc..

I don’t think the “Deep Sea Dragon” is going to remain in the deep sea. I think that’s the whole reason he will wind up causing problems. I don’t think because of his name we will HAVE to be underwater for that expansion. No reason it can’t be an island/Cantha expansion with him coming to the surface sensing the ley-line/magic overflow.

Would be fascinating to have an underwater zone though. Some bubbled city themed like Atlantis that maybe belongs to the Largos or something.

“And a couple others.” I think WvW is probably less than 40. Pvp more than 10.

Seemingly 20 people on Gemstore!

It really does seem like there should be a lot more happening content-wise though. If the raid team can produce what they have with 6 people, from maps and assets, to encounters… it would seem like we should at least have some new Living Story zone by now. I mean the raid maps are instanced and linear, but they’re pretty fly for such a small team.

Well the ley-line stuff can be linked to bandits and white mantle as seen in the raid. After Xera you see the platform where Lazarrus is being resurrected using bloodstone fragments and a combination of ley energy.

And the inquest just show up anytime some powerful magic or artifact is involved.
