“I could outrun a centaur!”
Could you guys put the hexed outfit back on the store at some point? It must have been on there when I took a break at some point. Would love to have it for my thief or ele. Get some lightning sigils for a little raiden role play!
I think there are a lot of kind of… useless or confusing stats. I’m still not even entirely sure I understand the difference between ferocity and precision. Precision grants critical strike chance and ferocity critical strike bonus?
Wouldn’t mid a resistance stat though, tbh.
I’d just be happy if they would start taking Discover again. I hate having to use my debit card.
I hope his name is Lucifurr.
Not trying to necro but I was looking this up because my earlier post about the Gilded Hollow loading screen and the fact that the two persons in front of the fall appear to be wearing gear very similar to the zodiac armor. It just seems strange that in this entire piece of artwork the focal point seems to be dead center on those two people. So why aren’t they exalted or enchanted armor? Instead it’s two humanoids with zodiac-esque armor?
Has anyone noticed the armor the figures are wearing in the distance in the Gilded Hollow loading screen?
It looks like Zodiac armor. Coincidence?
This hasn’t been formerly announced or anything, but are other guild upgrade costs being reduced?
Namely Ley-Line Infused Tools for the mining rate upgrades?
They’re pretty difficult to make considering the daily cooldown of charged quartz crystals and my guild has only 2 more significant upgrades, but we require 350 ley-line tools for them. Are these going to be reduced with this coming quarterly update to the point that our guild should hold off on them until this update, or are these staying put?
(Not that we would be able to muster up enough by the time the update rolls out, just wondering in case I happen to ecto gamble before then and magically wind up with enough gold to just buy some. :-P )
Scribing cost reduced will be nice, but it’s still a little frustrating that if I decide to make something in my guild (Which I have permission now I think) I have to have special permission to use a basic decoration I paid for in order to put said created item in the assembly which I also need permission for. A lot of people would be more interested in the profession if it weren’t so restrictive to solo play.
It would also be great if the decoration items from scribing weren’t so restrictive. Having to make all of these items that are already expensive is a pain. Would be great if these items were just schematics that unlocked them at the decorations vendor so that I could purchase them for the already high price of 50 silver per item and use them at will. As it is now, most guilds will only ever see a handful of these decorations due to the insane cost of creating them, and on top of that only have maybe one or two of each item. At the very least can we get an addition of more basic decorations?
I get I’m part of a probably small demographic of people that love having a guild hall for the sake of decorating it, but I’m sure I’m not the ONLY one.
As to WvW, I never did the original so I have nothing to compare it to. Would be great if there was a little more player versus player in them. But having Gliding in them would be great as well.
Now lastly, aside from these two things and the already mentioned stuff about reducing the grind and creating “better rewards” I wouldn’t hold my breath about some huge surprise update being held back. If you have the idea that something big is planned they haven’t talked about you’re probably setting yourself up for disappointment. I’m a little disappointed that we have to wait until after the pvp season ends for each one of these updates, but I’m not expecting nearly as much as some of the people in these forums. They’ve been working on this quarterly update since before the legendary announcement, so I doubt that has any impact on this update or whatever content people are expecting.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love a new map or something, but I certainly am not expecting it. Pretty sure this was meant to be a revision update from the get go.
Anyone have a link to a site that has a complete list of guild hall map changes that occur with upgrades?
I have Gilded Hollows with most upgrades completed but we’re still working on a few more. I’m not sure if the vault across from the portal has always been open or was a subtle change with one of the treasure trove upgrades, but was wondering if perhaps the door at the back of the vault was related to synthesis output or something?
Anybody notice anything in particular as far as upgrades go?
It also seems like our crystal has reached max growth.
I know the frustration. My wings disappear on my Mesmer but that’s when I weapon swap to staff.
There really isn’t anything that can be done about certain back items though.

“I strongly believe that we will in fact entertain you. We’re a team of people who love the game that you love, and are working on things we’re confident you’ll love. But I’m not here to convince you of that, and I wouldn’t expect you to take my word for it. You can make that judgment in April, and each subsequent time we ship. I will work to make you happy, and I’ll do it by making you happy with what we ship, not with what we promise to ship.”
A very strong statement indicating something big is coming in April…
I wouldn’t read too much into it. I’m leaning towards SAB though. I don’t know that they would add any maps in without living story, so I can’t imagine what else it would be. Unless they had some alternative easy mode form of raids or something.
Nothing. The cancelled legendaries ruined this game for me. Such a rip off.
j/k
The combat is a good one, the graphics. The amount of detail in some of the newer maps at least, like the Guild Halls and Tangled depths with how intricately woven they are.
My only complaint is that I wish they would start kicking out some more content and some new maps soon.
Oh, and better ways to earn gold. I like that the economy isn’t ruined like it was in WoW, but I also don’t like being perpetually broke. lol
There’s got to be more to it. lol
I’m just wondering what all is in the guild halls that we haven’t even discovered yet. For instance where the door leads behind the vault that opens up in the gilded halls where all the piles of gold are.
I don’t know. I think it’s lame that anything has to be sacrificed for a company of this magnitude when there are 70 devs working on an expansion we may not see for 3 years.
But I still don’t think it’s this huge of an uproar. I mean, how many of the people commenting would actually obtain these legendaries? It took me forever to get the one and only one I have. It’s amazing, don’t get me wrong, but given how long it takes to farm everything for it it’s not like having them released tomorrow would mean everyone would be getting them for a few more months.
I can understand the disappointment, especially given the constant gemstore additions, but I still would much rather have a larger living world season than a few more legendaries.
That being said, I’ll slave away and live in somebody’s cubical at Anet with my cat if they’ll give me a job with my lowly associates. LOL. You might have to train me, but I’ll work day and night on the legendaries!
On a serious note though, I really wish we could get somekind of state of the game update/content preview/teaser trailer for the next season or the april patch or something. It seems a little strange to drop this news and then not at least have somekind of fluff piece about upcoming content to distract people or smooth things over a bit.
New fractals would be nice. As well as a returning emphasis on Dungeons. I haven’t done all of the dungeons yet but I’ve done all paths of Arah and it’s some of the most fun I’ve had in game. A shame that they decided these weren’t worth development time as opposed to raids which are a lot more restrictive, and swamptals that people just run for dailies in hopes of getting the ever elusive ascended chests. (Weren’t there supposed to be better rewards with this last patch? I’ve finally gone up to 77 fractal level now and still get nothing but (infused) rings clogging up my bank.)
As far as the other systems go, I’m not a fan of wvw in its current state though I have a very active guild that does it every reset. It’s just mind-numbingly boring running around with them hearing them talk about how awesome we are that we’re just going in circles taking camps and attacking forts to rarely ever actually come across other players.
I love Guild Halls, I just wish we had more decoration options and customization options. Would be AMAZING to have a placeable waypoint within the guild hall, so that I could finally place one at the top of my gilded hollow and allow people to skip the first half of my crazy jumping puzzle and go straight up the giant tree above the well jumping puzzle. :-P I fear they won’t implement much more for guild halls even though they have a great foundation in place should they choose to. Just give me more decorations to choose from that don’t require scribe gating or insane costs and I’ll be happy to spend hours decorating mine. (Given a more leanient décor cap of course.)
People don’t appreciate the amount of effort that went into creating these hall maps. They really are breathtaking and something I’d like to see expanded upon with a more convenient approach. (Even new guild halls and the ability to own more than one with shared unlocked features for each one.)
As far as SAB, it was a really neat idea. I sucked at it but I definitely don’t understand why they had to remove it. I’ll never understand why so many developers create content only to make it temporary outside of whatever balancing issues or maintenance time it may take up. If you put all of that effort into something, why not leave it in? It’s not like having more options or ways to play your game is a bad thing? Perhaps if it gets implemented again as I suspect it most likely will with this next update, I can try to get a little more enjoyment out of it and experience with it.
I wouldn’t be so sure. I’m kind of expecting the next expansion to involve Cantha. I’m almost betting on a Cantha + Bubbles expansion. I don’t think they’ll go straight into the Kralk plot like everyone’s expecting. I think that’s going to be expansion 3 at the earliest.
Perhaps not, but I’m leaning towards that theory. Reason?
Some extremely wild unfounded speculative reasons, the new legendary shortbow screams Cantha to me for some reason. I can see it being kind of a prelude to that culture. I also have always found it strange that we rebuilt this extremely coastal sea-creature themed Lion’s Arch and there has always been that concept art of Bubbles attacking Lion’s Arch. Farfetched and unfounded theory, but just two things that make me lean in that direction.
Plus, with Cantha you can have a wide variety of scenery, whereas the Crystal Dessert which is another possibility just seems like it would be Dry Top/Silverwastes all over again. Which don’t get me wrong, I like that theme and I would personally love to see a Mesopotamian Egyptian-esque themed culture set in a desert filled with oasis after oasis and deserts/canyons, I’m just not sure if that would be as interesting for a multi-zone theme as something like Cantha might be. Who knows, the two could coincide and give a wide variety of environment variation within one expansion.
As far as anything else goes, if we didn’t explore those areas what’s left? There are plenty of undiscovered areas in the Magumma Wastes, as well as Far Shiverpeaks and Ascalon territory, but what would be the theme for those areas if not involved with elder dragons aside from Jormag? How would the plot lead us to those areas for an entire expansion?
Ideally I would have loved to see the living story seasons (if they actually came out more than a year at a time with this expansion) delving further into the areas above verdant brink and around the lost precipice and raid. Larger maps opening up above those areas now that we’ve defeated the nearby elder dragon.
I would love a playable Largos though. :P
Also, would really love to explore that circle area in between Tangled Depths and Dry Top near where the ley-line hub is in Dry Top. I’ve always been fascinated at finding out what they have planned for that area given it’s undiscovered geometric shape. What is that huge ring? Old ruins? A giant world tree themed thing that could be another Sylvari civilization larger than the pale tree’s?
Plus you have all of the areas undiscovered and inaccessible within dragon stand and odd elongated stretches of land directly within the heart of thorns maps that I had imagined would be opened up within this expansion.
It is a little discouraging to think that we might have to wait till August to see some of these areas opened up if there are even plans to open them up.
Forgive me, you char looks nice and all, but I don’t see anything birdish, besides the wings.
Medium armours have a few options – not sure about light armours – if you want to match that theme. Falconer’s and Carapace armours come to my mind. And of course, there’s Nevermore for staff users.
EDIT – Oh, and I almost forgot the Deathly Avian Shoulderpads.
Carapace is more butterfly though. And Dwayna’s outfit is a great fit for hawk wings but that isn’t something you can mix and match and gets a little stale/unoriginal after awhile.
Other than that I would just skim through the wardrobe.
I think that’s one thing that needs to be addressed though. There is far too much focus on meta events that reward keys and chests and bags that only grant you a measly green or blue item with a guaranteed rare here and there. It’s so unrewarding to the point that people are either only doing it to salvage for make gold to buy something they actually want whether it be ascended items or legendary items, (or to convert to gems to be able to buy an actual shiny new weapon skin/armor set), or they’re strategically sending it to a low level character to salvage for the same reasons.
It’s a little discouraging that all of these events reward nothing but things you can salvage or at best mystic forge and have a dismal chance of getting something good from.
Perhaps that’s what’s planned with this april update. Who knows. They’ve been deathly silent on what this april update is actually supposed to do in terms of “better rewards.”
But it would certainly be nice if the default action for many people wasn’t to send 50 champion bags to a low level character to work the trading post as their “end game.”
Doesn’t seem like it’s working as intended.
As it stands I think that’s the major reason why these legendaries are so important to people. They’re a guaranteed way of reaching something new and visually appealing without spending real life money to get via the gemstore or gold and buying the skin off the trading post.
In general my big complaint with Guild Wars 2 is that the obtainable in-game armor sets and variations of those and weapons is dismal and not updated for free nearly as much as it should be. I know that’s how they make a majority of their gem sales, by outfits and armor sets that are unique, but they could certainly do a much better job creating more in-game obtainable sets that give players incentive and something to work towards.
I’m sure this has been mentioned before but past collection achievements adventures don’t have a huge incentive for players to repeat. My suggestion is that the rewards for each medal reward a certain amount of that map’s key item respective to how well you did. As in exalted keys, chai acid, and crobars. Possibly a bonus of machetes as well.
I just want clarification on what the April update is. Because other than reducing the grind and “increasing rewards” it seems like there isn’t much planned that’s new and exciting.
The only thing I can think of is that SAB is coming out with this update.
It might be a transformation on proc item that actually transforms your character into a tiger humanoid.
That could be cool.
And why do I get the feeling this is a hint at Cantha for some reason? I don’t know. Probably just a stretch.
Also, in terms of communication in case, it might be a huge moral booster and pr move to do somekind of webcast or behind the scenes guild chat/forum blog about the next living season update. Of course you can’t go into huge detail because it will be a bit spoilery, but it might be nice to have some sense of where the development is of it right now and little bits and pieces to keep us hopeful about the future. I for one can’t wait, but then again I’m used to a different approach for this company than say, Blizzard, who releases content seemingly every 12 months these days. :-P
Apparently I’m playing a Blizzard game now.
I won’t rant and bash for 3 paragraphs because frankly I think it was a “good” decision if it actually yields a positive result in terms of living story release time. I was severely annoyed that it was going to take so long to get the new living story season out, especially when raids are getting so much attention and I’ve yet to actually actively try to get through a genuine wing run.
I’m happy for the communication but I have to agree with some of the people above that it seems a little odd that you’re moving 6 devs that couldn’t finish more than one legendary in 6 months to speed up a living season update that is much larger than a weapon and quest chain. We haven’t seen the chain so it may be really interesting and a better way of obtaining legendaries than the collection system, but only one? And this team is supposed to boost living story production enough that it’s worth sacrificing advertised content?
After obtaining HOPE I’m in no hurry to obtain another legendary, so again, it isn’t a huge deal to me, it just seems a little nonsensical to move 6 devs from current already paid for content vs. Gem Store items or an expansion that may still be 2 or more years away. I don’t mind having a large team working on the next expansion, but would it really halt the process of making the expansion that much to move a few devs from there to work on the living story instead? It just seems like the priorities are a little shallow and the transparency also comes with a jarring epiphany that you’re more concerned about pushing out gem store items and another $100 dollar expansion quickly than current expansion content and living story.
I don’t know. It’s not a huge deal to me but it’s still a little surprising to hear how resources are being allocated and where priorities seem to be given the current state of the game and already lackluster amount of content. Again, I guess most of us got spoiled with the 2 week updates oh so long ago that we aren’t used to this new business model.
I do hope for the sake of the community that this living story 3 will be the best and biggest one to date with multiple new maps and story arcs.
Also hope this expansion in progress isn’t so dismally far away that the resources that are being allocated to it aren’t being wasted in the process.
Legendary also means that people will be able to change out the stats whenever they feel like it and have a plethora of stats to choose from.
People act like that isn’t a huge deal, but when you get out and pve and want to fill various roles, having the ability to actually change out your stats along with your build without having to carry bags upon bags of extra gear it’s an insane and almost unfair quality of life improvement.
I’d love to have that option. And from what I’ve seen of the cosmetics of legendary gear I’d probably be transmuting most of it anyway.
Ohhhh, I need to find that room! Is it in the big tower overlooking the city? I couldn’t figure out how to glide up that far but I could tell there was a window. (Not the mastery point area.)
Also wondering about the big vault behind the Tengu commander….. seems like it could possibly lead somewhere at some point. Kind of random to have it there with a bunch of mobs in front of it.
And yeah, I’ve been to all of the Dragon Stand areas, and could take some pretty great screenshots of some of them but wanted to hold off as it definitely looks like it’s meant for future content.
It’s really crazy how much extra land there is in some of the maps once you break out. (Haven’t found a spot for Auric or Verdant yet.)
For instance the giant circle undiscovered area between dry top and tangled depths has always fascinated me and there’s a huge chunk of land in that area that hasn’t been allocated to anything yet. I keep wondering why it’s painted like a circle, especially being so close to the ley-line hub in Dry Top. Something special has to be planned for that area…
-Anyway. Thief, bored the heck out of me, I leveled it to 80 got DareDevil, and did other, then Delete! It’s useful for the stealth but it doesn’t get that much better. I am that person whom slaps Ventari’s (Nomad’s) on Guardian and becomes a tanking/healing beast! So my opinion on Thief is being a Damage-Only profession isn’t very fun to play because (Like any Profession) the traits lack build diversity. Engineer is the only profession I feel comfortable with being equipped with Verata’s (Sinister).
It would seem that way, but it depends on how you build your thief. Staff thief/alternating sword/pistol for the extra evade+blindness makes it pretty good for damage reduction. Really just building a staff daredevil focused on healing from initiative and having lots of lifesteal gives it quite a bit of survivability. With the staff 4 not only blinding your target so that it misses but giving you health back from using initiative+plus the low cooldown block ability…. I haven’t personally tried tanking but I can definitely see it being viable if you ever wanted to experiment. Wouldn’t toss it to the side so quickly.
I’m really lifesteal/marauder/berserker acro/critical strikes/daredevil build and it’s honestly the most fun class I’ve played lately even though it isn’t where I’d like it to be yet in pvp. Just rambling, but basically don’t be so quick to judge. It’s no bunker chrono, but it can hold its own.
The fractal with the lava and the golem is insanely fun with my build because when the golemn gets the +damage taken debuff, I can stand in pretty much anything and keep instantly heal myself to full while attacking. lol
Staff thief is amazing. I main staff/ pistol pistol. My biggest complaint is the pistol auto attack needs to be reworked to repeal alternate main and off hand attacks. I hate shooting from the same hand constantly.
Personal Story episodes that you have to start over because for some reason cough Taimi cough Braham cough isn’t actually doing anything but standing there. It’s happened multiple times now.
Other than that, can’t think of any I can’t live with. I do find the animation freeze bug really amusing though. Like in pvp when somebody kills you so fast that your character stays in a frozen attack animation with their arms out still trying to contemplate what just happened.
What to do meantime besides Personal Story?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Usually you can just go to a commander tag on the map and follow them.
In Tangled Depths you will want to play it A LOT just to get a feel for the zone and know your way around. At least do an hp train because they will most likely take you through the zone AND get you the most important waypoints. That zone is really crucial to have waypoints for. Even at that there are still so many shortcuts that I’m finding here and there in the zone in little cracks in the wall that are partially hidden that make a world of difference.
Auric Basin is an easier one to do but it’s sometimes difficult finding a map where people are actually doing all of the pylon events.
Verdant Brink is kind of exhausting to do the meta for because it’s a long process of completing events, then waiting for nighttime and defending camps/running pact supplies/then finally traversing through the canopies to kill bosses. Not my favorite other than the wyvern bosses which are great fights to participate in. Especially Patriarch.
Dragon Stand I think is my favorite meta though. It’s really rewarding to go through this hour long process of fighting waves of mobs and then having one mostly singular end boss to fight instead of having 4 vines that don’t really fight back, or 5 mini bosses that you may or may not have enough people for, or a chak gherent that although isn’t a terrible fight is incredibly annoying and usually unsuccessful unless you have a lot of people communicating and working together.
I would honestly start off with the Dragon Stand event if you haven’t done it yet. There’s pretty much always a group doing it when it resets in LFG and it’s one of the more satisfying metas imo. (Aside from the fact that it’s on a timer and you don’t have an endless amount of time to explore the zone, even if you defeat Mordremoth.)
I just got a recipe for a krait rune thing? I’ll have to look into the obelisk.
And don’t all resets go on a 24 hour cooldown? Like the dailies and stuff?
Greatsword, greatsword, greatsword. 2 new ones that forges with eternity to make a new one.
I know you’re joking, but it could be cool if it were called “Cosmos” or something, and looked like Astralaria + Eternity on crack at a disco. Stars everywhere. The whole character is just enveloped in stars.
LOL
I wouldn’t mind some Heart of Thorns themed legendaries, like some Exalted themed items.
I was really hoping we would get some armor that looks very similar to Enchanted Armor, but I guess that won’t happen aside from the backpacks. (Speaking of which it would be great if the Luminate’s backpack had a stronger tail visual. Something similar to Tyrael from Diablo that would also serve as a glider that works like the Electromagnetic glider.
Is there anyway we can get an increase on how many we can make of these a day?
As of right now it just seems like an unnecessarily strict 24 hour cooldown for one, and when you consider how much some of the items you can craft with them need them, it’s kind of frustrating to remember to grab the mats from your bank and find a hero point just for this one little daily cooldown.
Would also help having a higher limit or shorter cooldown for making the ley-line infused tools which wind up halting a lot of guilds’ upgrades that require 150+.
If the charged quartz crystals weren’t account-bound it might make it easy for a whole guild to collectively work towards charging them and giving them to their guild’s weaponsmiths but as it stand it’s pretty much an insanely long grind unless you all toss in a fortune and buy them off the trading post.
It’s a great way for weaponsmiths to make a quick 4 gold, but is that really worth it for the community as a whole?
Probably been said before but I definitely missed the chance to get the lich outfit!
To start off, I admittedly have a bit of an addiction with finding ways out of maps, if only see them from a different perspective. As someone who went to school to get a whopping associates degree in game design (that I’ve done nothing with LOL) I’m fascinated with environmental design in particular. So naturally I enjoy getting to places normally out of reach. Thanks to another player I’ve managed to at long last find a way out of Tangled Depths and must say it never ceases to amaze me how much actually gets put into the design of these maps, from the art assets (no clue how they even do it; modelling most of it?) to general layout.
Anyway, long story short, I discovered quite a bit of awesome stuff in Dragon Stand off map that almost looks like it was meant to be included due to how polished some of it looks even in an unplayable area… and finally found a way out of Tangled Depths.
Not giving a tutorial. :-P
But I do want to upload two fun little screenshots of some awesome views I got while up high!
Wasn’t there a theory that the human gods actually became corrupted and became the elder dragons since they disappeared about the time the elder dragons appeared?
I had a female norn ranger with dark skin and long blonde hair (with the headband and poof at the top) named Ru Paul Hunty but I deleted it. lol Doubt anyone would have appreciated it.
Did see a Mesmer named Nicki Mirage though. That was pretty clever.
Definitely the retaking of the egg and trial part of the story.
Tarir didn’t just build itself from natural found resources, ya know!
Funny how dev wastes his time to reply to people who generally dont want to improve in the game and blame their team and/or matchmaking, basically being in complete denial about their own poor performance and these people are still unhappy and prefer to remain in denial even after getting their answers.
As for the popular topic of “blowout matches” its pretty simple. It happens because of the human factor: low divisions are full of tilted people who are generally not good at the game so as soon as a single thing goes wrong they become mad and refuse to attempt to change the situation either openly – by going afk, or secretly – by not doing their best (even if their best isnt all that great anyway).
So matches which are actually perfectly balanced end up looking like a complete stomp simply because in the losing team there are regularly 2-4 people who refuse to try once the enemy team becomes ahead by 20 points.
Well perhaps we should group up sometime so I can be blessed with your presence in one of my blowout matches. You might find that you’ve seen a completely different side to this system.
Who knows, maybe the system would favor you and put me into a team that doesn’t repeatedly die in mid while I frantically try to cap one of the two unguarded points. (While 2 or 3 of the enemy team rush over to kill me and my team still manages to lose the group fight in mid.)
I didn’t realize there was a max cap. That is a little sad. I wanted to spruce up my guild hall with some more plants and things.
I’m more concerned about the price of the decorations though. 50 silver is a little pricey for a potted plant or a wooden torch.
Yeah, but the sound of it this is just going to be a maintenance patch with “better rewards” and fixing collections for legendaries.
So I don’t really know how it’s going to be a quarterly update and not just something they could have implemented in a patch before the end of April. Unless they’re just timing it that way so that it’s after Season 2 and they can decide to grace us with balance changes.
Who knows, maybe they have something surprising in store that they haven’t shared with us, like a new map or the unreleased areas of Dragon Stand or something else.
Doubtful.
Also, yes please to Ventari Stance. Does anyone actually use it? The tablet mechanism is just… terrible. At least for the miniscule amount of healing it does when you move it.
Oh boy. Someone is mad they can’t progress through sapphire/ruby. Take it all out on one dev, like it’s somehow all his fault.
Actually you are wrong. like completely.
I am bad pvp player as I am new to game and even more new to pvp. I could not care less about those rewards. I want good games with similar bad players as me. And thats is exactly what this so called matchamaking system is NOT providing in any possible way.
As for fault… and whose a hell fault it is?!?!? Of course its devs fault.
I mean, it would be one thing if these matches were close. But they’re not. Not even remotely. When the other team has 400 points and you’re sitting at -100 there is something seriously wrong. And the fact that these matches are consecutive?
I’m not blaming the programmer, I’m blaming the pvp team as a whole, or specifically whoever thought up this system. If your grand scheme is for things to “level out” then perhaps you should make the seasons a little longer so that in 3 months when the system is done putting me in losing groups and using me as a stepping stone for everyone that’s actually managed to mentally combat this crap and persevere long enough to get into a higher division than me, I can actually progress to where I feel I should be.
I shouldn’t have to log onto my necro just to be able to spam fear and cc long enough for my team not to instantly die within the first 2 minutes of the match. (Mainly because the other team has 2 or 3 necros, and dragonhunters with endless pulls into traps.
I don’t know. I’m clearly ranting at a brick wall here. This system is clearly a success for them, which is unfortunate.
At this rate I may never get the last tier to ruby, because I may just lose interest in the game completely. I suppose I should take a break and do something else and hope it gets better eventually, but when you’re that close it’s difficult to just give up and hope it gets better later. There’s no reason it should be this difficult getting one tier, especially when you have countless times when you’ve won 2 games in a row, need one final win, and somehow get placed into a group of people that either don’t know how to rotate, repeatedly die in mid, or have someone that just goes afk halfway through. It’s like the system just decides I’ve had enough wins and puts me in the worst possible group to put me right back to needing 3 wins again or 4 assuming I don’t just stay on a losing streak for 10 games of complete blowouts.
And to be frank, I think many of the players should feel insulted by what is essentially summed up as, “get gud scrub” as a response.
Fun fact: today i had a match, we ended up with 2 thieves on team (me and other guy). The team kept blaming us for not doing well etc.
Then we split during the match, me and thief were fighting 2v2 at far and our team had 3v2 fight at home (5th enemy was at mid). Our team at home managed to wipe. They had “proper” classes, were outnumbering enemy and yet they managed to wipe. CLEARLY sole reason why we lost that match is because of double thief…. el oh el.
I had some guy get an attitude with me the other day and blame the loss on me for constantly running to far, (and actually capping it several times because it was empty) only to argue that I wasn’t helping the team win in the group fight in mid.
1. I just capped the only point we have.
2. It’s a group fight in which you already outnumber the other team and are still struggling to survive or getting massacred.
3. It’s a group fight consisting of more than likely at least 2 necros and my condi cleanse is a little lacking other than a dodge removal and maybe one other ability without sacrificing utility.
People are absolutely mind-numbingly obsessed with “MID AND HOME MID AND HOME MID AND HOME” even if it means they’re going to repeatedly wipe in mid and give the other team 200 points in deaths before they realize their strategy isn’t working.
No common sense.
Getting ‘stuck’ in ruby is a very important topic regarding how best league should operate. We changed matchmaking to make the ladder more prestigious and so far it has done that. Divisions are aligning with skill level much better than season 1. The product of this change is that the bulk of players who hover around the middle of the mmr curve should stay in sapphire and ruby. Win rate will level out at 50% because there are plentiful players of similar mmr in the same division.
Should average players be able to climb out of the middle divisions by grinding? This removes prestige and can make matchmaking worse within a division, but always allows a sense of progression.
Should average players stay in the middle divisions because that’s where they belong at their skill level? This retains prestige and only improving skill will allow climbing, but rewards and progression stop at some point through the season.
Is there an incentive that could be added to league games for players who have reached their appropriate division and can no longer climb?
I’d consider myself an average player, and on certain classes on the upper end of average. But as others have said this is a team-based pvp system. I cannot carry a team of 4 other people in a system that has point-capturing mechanisms. If I manage to sprint across the map and backcap constantly, there is still always at least one other point that needs to be held to ensure that we have a point lead. I can’t be in two places at once. And even if I do manage to out-rotate them, the rest of my team suiciding in mid is going to give the opposing team more points than I could possibly muster up.
I’m not entirely sure how the system works, but if what others are saying is true and losing members are intentionally grouped together against people with previous wins, then how in any universe is that a fair match-up? That’s just handing the game to one team and allowing them to get boosted up while replacing them with yet another winning team while I and the rest of my team constantly fall to the bottom of the latter waiting on that lowest rung winning team that just happens to so bad that my clueless teammates just happen to outplay spamming abilities.
This whole season may work great for filtering out people in Diamond and Legendary, but it really screws over people in lower divisions that aren’t in a premade organized team.
Also, whether the pvp devs see this system as a success or not, that still doesn’t change the fact that there are endless dragonhunters and necros stacking in teams making certain classes irrelevant, group capturing next to impossible without some cleansing/heal bot, and creates an extremely unfair advantage that doesn’t even boil down to which team has more skilled players.
I’ve been stuck on the last tier of sapphire for 4 days now, getting a win, a loss, a win, a loss, two wins only to lose before a losing streak, then 4 losses… only about 5 of these losses have been actual close matches. The rest have been blowouts and if you lose once, you’re almost guaranteed to lose the next few matches.
The system is broken compared to last season.
If you want it to be completely skill-based, remove solo queue, create a 1v1 arena system, and remove the safety net of not losing pips and tiers for all divisions. And please, implement some actual balance before the end of the season.
I’d really love to know what the formula is for “carrying” a team of 4 people against 5 other people in a game that requires you to be in 3 other areas capping points. These people constantly insisting they’re “carrying” their team must be pretty skilled to be able to be in so many places at once and take on entire teams of people.
Please, share your secrets so I can get done with this division and be out of this perpetual hell.
Also, would love to know why people think that possessing mid grants you more points or why it isn’t strategic to go far which is practically empty distracting them instead of dying with the rest of your teammates in an aoe kittenfest.
I’m just beyond sick of the people in solo queue, sick of this meta, sick of this season, and sick of the apathy from the devs.
I sincerely hope people leave by the masses.
If they really wanted it to be skill based they would eliminate profession stacking or actually do even a little bit of balancing.
But instead we wind up with 3 to 4 necros that spam aoe fear, chill, and stun, and let their conditions do the rest while their TWO health bars slowly trickle down making them untouchable unless you’re focusing them down. And then how is your team going to focus them down when they’re being feared constantly or rapidly dying from conditions?
Condition damage in general in pvp needs to be reduced or there needs to be built in mechanics for each class that cleanses conditions without having to sacrifice another more useful or fun ability.
