Ironic, since your opinion on what it could be is irrelevant to what it is.

What it is, is volunteers working together with Anet to give a fan-service for sPvP players. What you think they could or should do is your opinion, and I see no need for them to change their target audience nor their content just because you think they should

Don’t like their content? Do it better yourself.
Don’t like their topic? Do it better yourself.
Don’t want to do it yourself? Pipe the kitten down

Your assumptions on the motives and/or intentions driving the volunteers and/or Anet for doing this is just that – assumptions.

The alternative is to not watch the show. If enough people say they want pve/wvw content then maybe they’ll (those actually in charge of production-level decisions) take matters into their own hands and do it rather than try and find some people with too much time on their hands to do the work for them.

You’re acting like you need some sort of pve/wvw guru to figure out whats currently important to players in the game when a 1 hour search in general discussion/wvw threads would suffice. This isn’t exactly conceptually difficult work.

2) Of course Anet would still participate. The medium that they are using to discuss their game with customers doesn’t change whether said medium is making a profit or not. I implore you to give one good reason why Anet would drop participation from SotG if they made the exact same shows they do now, except that their productions were sponsored by a company.

What SotG wants is free labor instead of taking the time to do research in figuring out what issues are important for wvw and pve. That’s fine, but I also hope they’re ok with sacrificing that potential viewer base.

Why don’t you volunteer your time for that? Or if you have constructive criticism (instead of just insults), feel free to try it with less sarcasm.

Because doing webcasts isn’t what I enjoy doing and not something I view as being profitable or worth my time? It’s like saying I should run for president because I don’t agree with the incumbent’s policies. My unwillingness to devote my extremely limited free time to webcasting doesn’t detract from my ability to identify a production that has large room for improvement and bring these deficits to the attention of others.

SotG needs some competition from another group to encourage them to step up their game. It’s not the responsibility of SotG’s viewership to spoon-feed them on how to hold an interesting conversation.

Yes, exactly correct. Warriors not losing adrenaline when they miss is the reason this game isn’t competitive. Because it’s skillful to indiscriminately spam blinds constantly.

Yes, warriors are indeed gamebreakingly OP in sPvP and tPvP. That’s why you see so many teams stacked with only warriors.

Couldn’t have done it without you! I’ve never seen a 50+ man zerg with 6 AC support repeatedly getting wiped by groups of 15-20 players to the extent that it happened tonight. If your commanders need some tips I’m sure Fissue of Woe would be willing to help out.

I take it this wasn’t the same 15-20 players on Kaineng BL that built 2 superior arrow carts to protect their “stealth” catapult from 4 of us.

No, it was the group that had to drop a Black Lion Merchant within guard range of FA-owned EK just so we could empty inventory quickly and finish looting all the bags on the ground.

Why is it so unresponsive and non fluid with most melee weapons for most classes?
Why do we have self rooting melee skills?

I’d rather see perhaps some damage nerf to some skills like 100b for example, but make them mobile and more fluid to use. Self rooting or long cast time on melee abilities really break the flow of combat.
Self rooting and slow cast times belong to ranged weapon sets IMO and not melee, melee should be all about fluid and smooth combat without breaking movement.

Just like to add something more: Hate to draw comparision to WoW/SWTOR, but melee in those games felt ALOT more fluid, you pretty much had control of your character whatever you did(not counting cc from other players).
With the amount of CC and AOE spam would it really hurt to make melee weapons/classes more “agile/mobile/fluid”?

Yes, SWTOR melee felt much more smooth than GW2 melee. Even though I had to constantly juggle 20+ more skills as an anni marauder in swtor, it felt much smoother than these huge-windup skills and buggy pathing issues that I have to deal with in GW2 (sword 2, GS 5, shield 4).

Mara had tons of abilities to let you stick to targets in GW2 and had extremely effective gap-closers. When you factor in the huge wind-up times with many key warrior abilities, SWTOR actually felt smoother even with slight skill delay.

Lol I agree with bry. There is kittening a 100 threads about warriors being bad I agree the warriors are not meta atm, but everyone is acting like warriors can’t do anything. First L2P the class then post your concerns. There are a lot of tricks with the class you can learn to be successful.

I can spend 1,000 hours learning how to play warrior to a point where it is average to above average in tpvp, or I can play a necro and mesmer for 10 hours and learn how to play it to a point where it is average to above average in tpvp, and then play it for 100 more hours and play it at a point where it is exceptional in tpvp.

That’s the problem in a nutshell.

When I play warrior in soloqueue, I win most of my fights.

But my team loses most of the fights. Does this make any sense? Bad luck? Bad mates? Bad me?

Probably all of the three (even if I often see them all clutched into one point, try to take down something, even if the point is already theirs and probably only one person might be able to take it.)

You’re probably fighting over the wrong things. Taking and holding points are what win the game. In an ideal world warrior would be great at pressuring points and forcing teams to respond 1v2 to deal with a good warrior, and then holding the point until a good bunker can relieve the warrior and allow it to continue roaming or meet up with another teammate to pressure another point.

In reality, equal-skill warrior versus bunker anything and warrior loses almost 100% of the time, or takes so long to kill the bunker that enemy help arrives to push off the warrior. Because of poor damage mitigation, the warrior is also awful at holding points

The main issue with warrior is the lack of a broad or important enough niche in spvp to warrant including it on a team. Other classes can pressure points or roam between points better than war can.

That’s why the good spvp players unanimously agree survivability is the warrior’s #1 crippling issue at this point, right?

Name one class that has less survivability than the warrior while still being efficient in combat.

Jormag Event Suggestion (Stomp allies)

Hi,

I’ve noticed a number of players continuously go down because they get too close to Jormag and repeatedly try to DPS him when they should be focusing on killing pillars.

My suggestion is that, if a player goes down more than twice from getting too close to Jormag, rather than having the “Revive” option, it is replaced with the “Finish them!” option, allowing allies to stomp the player dead.

This would do two things:

1) Players would be extra careful not to stay in Jormag ice DOT to save themselves the embarrassment of getting stomped. Those players would instead focus on killing pillars;

2) Replace frustration of players who have the Jormag mechanic down and spend half their time reviving allies with joy and excitement every time someone hits the 2 revive limit and they get to stomp them dead.

Suggest implementing soon to expedite Jormag event. Thanks.

Explain how a percentage-based readout of crit damage would be subject to diminishing returns. It’s the values of arbitrary numbers such as strength and precision that are subject to diminishing returns, not percentage-based modifiers like crit-damage.

I’m not saying OP’s test of this system is valid by any means, it sounds like a pretty poor test in actuality. But replying with trendy words like “diminishing returns” when it has absolutely no application is silly.

BTW, does anyone know if Mighty Defenses has an ICD? It might actually be really really strong if it doesn’t. Jump into the middle of a group of enemies and when you start to get focused pop shield stance to instantly get 20+ stacks of might, then earthshake again into the group for massive damage.

Then endure pain/defy pain can save your kitten as you egress out with sword 2.

I’ve been trying to decide if the amount of CC in this build would proc distracting strikes enough to keep it up most of the fight. Their change to Warrior’s Sprint is a nice bonus. No swiftness to get converted or stolen. Warrior’s built in Signet of Shadows.

Thanks for reminding me about Unsuspecting Foe. I think your build has too high of armor though where you can build more into Power/Prec. 3k Armor is pretty nice and I have never noticed a big difference between 3k and 3.4k. Your attack is around or below 3k though which may hinder your damage some.

FYI with my build I’ve gone full berserker gear and have 3.1k attack unbuffed with 2800 armor via melandru runes and I don’t have major issues with surviving unless I do something stupid and earthshake into 400 ele AOEs and 50 ballistas or something. Even then, vigor + stability+ shield block + endure pain/defy pain + BS invulnerability to conditions —> sword 2 = survive!

Right now I’m running signet of might and have defy pain slotted to give some extra damage + allow me to maximize chance of massive burst on final thrust or earthshaker initiation by negating mass aegis from guardians.

Pretty similar to what im using now actually, except I substituted out the axe for a sword/shield.

Then I don’t have the huge downside of mobility but still have eviscerate-like dmg with shield bash —> final thrust. Mobility is so crucial for resetting fights and chasing enemies I don’t really see it as an option to forgo at this point.

Also, to anyone doubting the power of unsuspecting foe, hammer earthshaker applies the stun BEFORE the damage, guaranteeing a full AOE crit on the burst.

I can seriously destroy backlines of groups so hard with my build that is similar to this, particularly if a guard drops boons on me before I leap in.

And yeah, blinds suck but that’s irrespective of builds. There’s no warrior build that can effectively combat blind spam right now.

BS gives 4 seconds of immunity and that’s about it.

Blademaster is supposed to increase critical hit chance by 10% when wielding a sword. However, regardless of whether a sword is equipped or not, the bonus is not reflected in the hero panel for overall crit chance when wielding a sword in a weapon set.

Overall crit chance also doesn’t change whether this trait is active or not, indicating that it might have no effect at the moment.

I’m not sure whether it isn’t working at all, or whether it just isn’t being reflected in the overall crit chance printout in the hero panel.

It’s pve. Ýou can come up with the worst builds possible for war and still do just fine.

I personally find mace/mace + Mace/shield with full Giver’s armor with all physical utility traits and mistfire wolf or juggernaut to work great!

Final Thrust is a Bust!

I don’t understand why all of our skills have to have some sort of huge downside to them. Why can’t we just have a quick animation? I mean we’re already giving up huge survivability to play as a warrior…why can’t we just do our job well in dealing damage quickly and reliably rather than having these huge windups for each skill?

Other classes get to attack from stealth, get instant cast times for huge damage, get teleports —> instant massive single target damage spells such as backstab or condi applications…

We get massive wind-ups and cooldowns attached to anything that deals more than 500 dmg. I swear playing a warrior is like being a training dummy for an enemy’s ability to dodge or press their low-cd stunbreakers, teleports and stealth.

It’s like they designed this class to be a humanized tutorial for other classes to train in the use of their dodge buttons.

I think that’s worth pointing out again. It’s not class-specific, but its buffing has impacted our class asymmetrically hard. Like really hard.

Is that really unreasonable? Anyone fighting multiple anything should have a REALLY tough go of it. Frankly, if you don’t die from being outnumbered, your opponents suck. You should expect it Has nothing to do with being thieves.

I don’t think you understand.

It doesn’t matter if you’re 1v2ing, 2v2ing, 3v2ing, the thieves will be applying AOE blinds, both of them, to everyone trying to melee them. Then they move in different directions. If you, as a melee, are stuck to one thief, you will still be blinded by another thief, whom you are not in melee distance to shake off the blind.

Here’s the other thing. It doesn’t matter how bad the thieves are, or how good the warrior is. If they are spamming blinds, the warrior is incapable of winning the fight. Thus the important factor is no longer who is more skilled, but rather whether the thieves have blinds in their builds and how many they are packing. And I guarantee you with how powerful blind has become, every single thief will be running blind-heavy builds.

And this isn’t even talking about mesmers, guardians and ele’s yet. Mesmers might even be worse than thieves at this point in abusing this now-broken mechanic.

Blind was already very strong before this change. There was absolutely no reason to buff blind.

Oh btw, guess who is in last place by a mile and a half with regards to number of skills that apply blind? That’s right, warrior.

1/10, blind spam now makes us completely obsolete.

If you want to play a burst DPS class, play thief. They hit just as hard and have 10x the mobility and survivability.

Downed state of the warrior is atrocious compared to other classes. The problem is that the mechanisms of other classes allows the downed player to buy time with regards to multiple foes trying to finish them, whereas the warrior only has the ability to disrupt a single foe from being able to stomp, and even then, it’s only if they aren’t running stability.

There is no practical situation where the warrior downed state is more useful than its counterparts. Ele downed state allows the ele to retreat back behind lines where they can easily get ressed by teammates, or force enemy players to overextend their own team in order to attempt to kill the ele. Guardians have an AOE knockback, warriors have single target. There is absolutely no advantage whatsoever to a single target CC that lasts the same duration as an AOE CC. Thief/mesmer teleports/invis are able to buy a few seconds extra that affects all enemies trying to finish the downed thief/mesmer.

Warriors are often in situations where they are engaging multiple targets on the front lines of combat, just like guardians. This is where the AOE knockback versus single target knockback difference really becomes apparent. Two people stomping at the same time should be punished. When doing this versus warriors, it’s rewarded.

Vengeance is almost never used, and if it is used, it’s incredibly situational in its use. You have to try and find a target with low HP, down said target, and then proceed to kill the target (when you’ve likely already blown your stability trying not to get downed in the first place), at which point the downed target will use its superior downed state to evade you until you fall over and die. Then, if you manage to actually kill this target, you have a CHANCE at living if its not traited. Honestly, I use vengeance just to try and rez other players around me more than I try to actually kill enemy players because I know the extremely low probability of any competent player allowing me to get a kill while I have a huge golden bubble surrounding me. And no competitive player (I mean absolutely none) will give up the Mobile Strikes trait in order to take Sweet Revenge since we need Mobile Strikes just to be kittening half-viable in competitive play.

If you are going to keep vengeance, at the bare minimum, you have to incorporate the Sweet Vengeance into the Vengeance mechanic itself, by default. If you as a warrior can happen to get past the horrifically long activation timer and manage to kill the player who had the advantage in the fight to begin with by downing you and tried to kite you after you awake from vengeance, you deserve to live. Hell, in addition I think you should get perma-swiftness during the vengeance duration.

In addition, to bring the downed state in line with others, it needs an AOE CC so that wars can get through the long activation timer with more regularity.

Vengeance CAN be a strong mechanic, but right now it’s a horrifically sad gimmick that is actually useful in maybe 1/50 or less downed states, and there is nothing else that compensates or synergizes in ther warrior downed state to compensate.

The change was needed to balance class roles in dungeons. Warriors are still extremely viable. If you think otherwise, I doubt any sort of common sense reasoning will work on explaining balance to you.

When the kitten has any game that claims to have competitive pvp balanced a class (meaning 1 of 8 classes) on the basis of PVE damage? If they subtracted PVE damage that was also useful in PVP they needed to give compensating PVP damage/sustain/mobility whatever. You can asymmetrically nerf PVE damage while buffing PVP elements, but that’s not what happened.

People don’t sit in place and let you kill them like a target dummy. This is balancing the game to the lowest common denominator of difficulty, and it’s stupid.

Only if you substitute out these “guardians and engineers” for other warriors.

If all we need is more deeps then substituting out classes that do less deeps for ones that do more will be much more useful than gimping the only warrior in your group by forcing it to go banner build.

I have no idea where you’re getting this idea that warriors will still be anything but king of pve next patch. Warriors only useful for party buffs? LOL ok you do that and see how it goes.
