Dredge fractal update was a horrible decision

Complaining about dredge fractal? It’s still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than cliffside and grawl as 95% of the trash you kill in them is infinite respawn so you walk out with almost no loot.

everyone has their own opinion but I personally dislike this fractal -it’s not so much the dungeon itself, it’s more the mechanics that the players have to go through from start to finish, I always looks to reroll if we start on this and 90% of the time we restart the fractal run if this pops up as the second fractal in the list.
I’ve lost count on the amount of players that suddenly had to go, leave, quit, wash his hair when this dungeon poped up….

Some of my friends have great perseverance when it comes to the jump puzzles in this game, but this puzzle broke all but one of them who’s OCD got the better of him.

Not sure why they feel the need to remove the pick though.

As someone else mentioned earlier- to drive sales – it’s a source of short term revenue, this being the case it’ll give the developers reason to make it expensive (as also discussed in various other posts) to captalise on it.

Really awesome! it’s a shame to see the content go away so soon, especially given how it looks like so much work has gone into the design and look of it.

Funnily enough when I power levelled my ranger to 80, it was on it’s final quest to complete initiation into the Order of Whispers, I advanced through the zones with the aim of getting into the Cursed Shore and the pointer actually pointed me to continue the quest by going through the Asura gate at Fort Trinity to Lions Arch and then head out south to Bloodtide Coast.

I think they coded one of the portals to take you to Lions Arch’s, maybe one day with something they got planned it’ll be active… so many gates everywhere that is blocked off, like the ones in chosen sided factions in the personal story… wonder where they lead to… and the ones in Rata Sum….

It always seems the gold rate doesn’t drop back to previous levels after such a change in the economy, it always seems to hover over that mark.

I think there will be another change when the final part of the F&F comes into play and then will hang closely to whatever the rate is during that event when it finishes.

The only time I see it return to “normal” is when it spikes for a few hours, for a prolonged event that rate tends to be the new rate…… but who knows! the economy is the game of guesses… probably a question for Michael Pachter for his next Pach Attack episode!

Your Top 10 GW2 problems that need fixing!

Posted by: dronzer.8392

dronzer.8392

I like how GW2 has advanced and the game itself is really good, I only have 3 gotcha’s, one technical and the other really more for about keeping you in the world.

1/ Vista’s… I think this is a great idea! but it is at most times very frustrating to get to them, not because of the height, environment challenges but rather how the engine is handling the horrible “invisible walls” , you know you should be able to make that jump but a lot of times it feels like it has been purposely blocked off, by the time I get to the top I’m way to frustrated and annoyed to even watch the cut scene so I instant skip.

2/ The story, it starts off really well but at about the half way point I feel the characters lose depth and it feels rushed, I feel they lack emotion, especially when they talk to each other, it’s like as if the developers had the voice sessions recorded independently rather than having the actors and actresses in the same session playing off each other, like the really bad English dubs on anime, they lack drive… I mean seriously you’re planning to kill a dragon… couldn’t you display a little more emotion? It all seems like “it’s another day in Tyria”.

3/A reason to be in the zones, the environments, the art work everything is lush and beautiful, a lot of times I find myself asking “why am I here?” “what is the lore?” I felt that each of the zones could have had a small side story guiding you through, I just wonder aimlessly clearing the hearts and then leave, always thinking… what was the point of me visiting there? , I know the main story takes you there but it always feels isolated from the actual zone itself.

I think everything else is great, there are some technical issues but all games have that stuff and is usually resolved over time.

this heart quest is really silly, the easiest way is to just camp the first flag nearest the heart dude and browse the interwebs, pop back in after a few mins for it to respawn and repeat, you will save your sanity and will prevent a mass amount of cursing of your monitor this way.

I’m sure there is a correct path to get them all in one run but not really the most time effective way to do it unless you know the route.

I listen to the ingame music if I’m speakers but not if I’m on headphones so I throw up iTunes and run my usual playlists, the main reason being that the Logitech G930 doesn’t agree with how the game’s engine processes sound, though if it did I would have stuck to ingame sound/music.

PvE: Is Toughness and Vitality pointless?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: dronzer.8392

dronzer.8392

I’m not sure how toughness/vitality is truly calculated against effects ingame, I’ve stopped the theorycrafting and testing ages ago but I would have assumed that it follows the same staples as most RPG’s so Toughness should help you deal with physical/magical attacks by reducing the incoming damage, whilst Vitality would be there to help against DOT’s (such as poison, burning) – having a larger health pool to play with.

Personally, I would have a balance between the two – other posters feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

a vast majority of the time I have absolutely no idea what I’m attacking, this is more so in group events or dungeons where there are a vast amount of mobs with the same names, the position of the main nameplate at the top of the screen is at a very inconvenient place and I don’t very often look at that area of the screen.

Could we not get an option to have “local” nameplates highlighted based on the one your targeting/attacking?

Leveling

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: dronzer.8392

dronzer.8392

Guardian was my first class, was deciding between that and the Elementalist, actually had the same issue in the original guild wars (though it was warrior at the time), this time I went the opposite and took the Guardian through, was really fun though I found it played better going survivability over brute force damage, greatsword and shouts were the skills I used and it made it easier, though I had to clear all the zones I was in, mainly to stay ahead on levels, all I can recommend if you don’t fancy spending gold on levelling crafting (which is the fastest, and boring way).

Elementalist was my 2nd class, found it really hard to level this character, couldn’t take many hits and was really quite frustrating, in the end I took the crafting route for this character, even in full exotics, some of the zones still posed a bit of a challenge, esp with the high mob density and fast spawn rates in near empty zones… was really tough, at times I regretted creating this character……

The all around answer to your questions is, crafting… it’s the easiest, fastest and most efficient (time wise) way to levelling, less pain in the long run.

At which point does it become unethical ? at which point is it ethical? just because it’s value is pixels vs real world currency does not negate the fact that this is gambling, pure and simple.

It matters quite a bit. People hold different ethical views, and their thresholds vary. Depending on what the reward is different amounts of people will be outraged.

If the right to continue playing this game was only obtainable through gambling, then I will assure you the rage will be vast.

Pretty pixels? Sure there will be a few people who’d consider it unethical, but to the majority of players it will be but a blip on their radar.

Gambling is gambling yes, but I’d postulate that only a minor portion of the player base sees pure gambling as “unethical,” while a majority of the player base could care less, especially on items which have no direct affect on their gameplay.

Very true, and I agree with you on your response but one, regardless of their player status should not have to be driven to playing this gambling game for these skins if they so desire it.
I see both sides of the fence but I sit with those that agree that this is wrong, purely because If I was to ever have children, I would definitely not want them to spend their money on gambling regardless of the reward, I would want them to be able to either buy it or obtain it another way (Which is why I have no complaints against the Halloween skins as you could obtain them directly via TP if you should wish).

The other items in those boxes can be obtained directly so why should these skins be treated so differently?
It’s the fact that this is the only method to get them if one wants them, the mechanic of obtaining them is gambling for them which from what I can gather in this thread a fair number are against.

Gem store gambling

And as for the “no one buys these for boosters etc”, thats your opinion. I buy them for boosters and salvage kits and whatever else it wants to give me. If it gives me another ticket (#5 for me), that is fine too.

If that’s what motivates you to buy the boxes then that’s great! and good for you! but I suspect you’re in a very small minority for this, If one wanted boosters, salvage kits, wouldn’t it be wiser to just buy them direct rather than opening a box? o.O ).

…But for the majority this is not what is attracting the sales, it’s that chance to obtain that luxurious desirable item anything else is considered a loss, just like a casino, you consider the money the reward and everything else a loss, even if it’s a t-shirt given to you on the way out.

Remove the "only obtained via this method (which this method actually has mechanics of gambling) " and this thread wouldn’t have even been made.

relating to purely luxury/cosmetic items. The “unethical” accusations are incredibly hard to take seriously.

So you’re considering it unethical based on your personal “value” of the rewards? okay lets change the reward then, a chance to win $1 million real world money (or equiv in your own currency). Anet makes a lot of money from the sales of these items and win rate is quite low, this in turn is actually accessible by people for all ages.

Would your stance then change?

At which point does it become unethical ? at which point is it ethical? just because it’s value is pixels vs real world currency does not negate the fact that this is gambling, pure and simple.

Gem store gambling

So Anet is selling a box with random cosmetic/luxury items. They clearly stated that this was random. A consenting customer purchased this box with random goodies.

If you think this is unethical, by gods I hope you don’t play Magic the Gathering.

Basically this.

As somebody who used to play those kinds of card games a long time ago, I second your comment there.

For those who want those items have no other choice but to purchase them for a chance to obtain them, it’s a gamble , just like that in a casino – drop a coin , pull the lever and hope you walk away with that gold filled jackpot- this is not comparable to a TCG.

It’s unethical because their using these desirables that are only obtained this in method supported in their promotions/marketing using big arty graphics, front page banner images etc promoting these rewards and hoping that this is something that will attract players to spend their money to gamble for a skin.
We also know the drop rates are quite low , else everyone would be having them by now, the rates are probable comparible to the average person going into the casino and walking out with more than $10,000 (or equiv in your own currency).
No one buys these boxes for the boosters, tonics, the karma rewards… they buy it for the super desirable item, the luxurious weapon skin.

Remove the "only obtained via this method (which this method actually has mechanics of gambling) " and this thread wouldn’t have even been made.

I’m sold! though still on the fence whether to get it for my alt, one of the best products on the gem store! whoever came up with this idea, is a keeper!

I wonder how closely they’ll be following the sales from this pick vs. sales of keys from people searching for the weapon skins. While it’s not a straight comparison (a weapon skin is almost constantly shown off, where as a pick looks cool for a few moments while you mine) it’ll be interesting to see how many people are willing to pay a higher, flat fee for a cosmetic boost vs. how many people are willing to buy fistfuls of keys hoping for a winning ticket. Even though the convenience of the axe is small, and the particle effect is only seen when mining, I’ll be picking one of these up in a day or two when I have the gold – mostly to show my support of fixed rate vs. randomly obtained cash store goodies.

I’m pretty sure they’ll follow the sales closely, the fact that it’s listed as a limited time offer could lead one to assume that this item would be quite popular, I can definitely see the appeal of the weapons skins and the people who want it would be willing to risk RNG from the loot chests but like many others have stated, it is a form of gambling and that can could lead to a dangerous thing, especially for the younger audience of the game.
Though not to derail the thread, the item is great, the many times I’ve been out there and forgot to buy an extra pair of mining items has been too great, and like you said the extra slot is definitely welcomed.
It is on the expensive side but convenience is usually expensive, (like the car vs public transport. )

I had to google it and a page on dulfy gave me all the info, abiet a bit spoilerish…

but yeah as post #2 said, their version of a “quest log” seems to have integrated into the achievement tab, which to me is not really a good idea.

I get why they have to have all their events in the starter zones but sometimes they just need to tone it back a little…..

Why were dungeons added to the monthly?

boxhound- how is that constuctive? –
“go type /age and show a screenshot?” is one example within the post, that itself is childish or are you saying that is an absolute valid thing for someone who is sitting on the opposite side of the table should do?!

no of course they aren’t forced to do it but those who want the achievement (there are those out there who are manic about achievements or are you living under a rock? (okay that was a little insensitive, sorry) ) who might dislike doing certain activities, my stance is if a certain objective is included the content needs to be accessible and not reliant on being on at the right time/ certain time of the day for the population peak.

There is a higher “concern” (for a lack of a better word) for these activities for a reason and less so for the minor ones like salvaging, doing xx number of events.

I understand your argument, it is an optional achievement but my reply is more for the reasons for adding the meta objective into that achievement – there are by far much better alternatives (and ones that actually work too as demonstrated by other games) that encourages dungeon hunting, which is the reason why I believe it’s being added.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: dronzer.8392

dronzer.8392

I really dislike dungeons in this game, I personally don’t feel they’re that well designed and is partly the problem why a majority aren’t keen on them, and to me they’re not that enjoyable to do- you can just see from general map chat over the course of release that there has been a decline in people looking for groups and doing these runs, organising one can actually be quite a feat in itself, and more so if you’re just the casual player that pops on for an hr a day.

I’m assuming they’ve added that meta into the achievement to combat the decline in the groups going, to get the ball rolling… but a much better solution is a dungeon finder tool with a daily or monthly reward, whilst alot seems opposed to this – it is by far a much better solution in making this aspect of the game more accessible….
