Do us a favor, and post screenshots of your build (Hero panel, Equipment tab so we can see full stat breakdowns) with you standing in LA. Before taking the screenshot, hover your mouse over your WvW icon in the top left so we can do the math for you to show you that there is no shadiness going on here.

Beyond that, I’m not really sure how else this can be explained to you. Lots of folks are trying, but I don’t think you’re quite understanding it…

I don’t think I actually ran NSS at all during Wintersday, come to think of it. Just got on tonight and decided to run the JP, and I now see what you’re all referring to. My bad. Struggled my way through the initial jumps only to find that the launch pads have been significantly amped up. They throw you much farther than they ever used to, and some of even the initial jumps are out of whack. I decided to forgo the cogwheels entirely and relied on Experimental Rifles to leap my way across those gaps. Hopefully these issues can be addressed soon, I’m sure they’re aware of it but maybe submitting in-game bug reports wouldn’t hurt.

Having said that, I have parked a couple of mesmers there, at the airship/chest and the goggles and will leave them there through the duration of Lunar New Year. If you see this post and you’re struggling to get through the jumping puzzle and need to complete a legendary collection or the dive master achievement, feel free to add me and message me in-game when you see me on. I’m happy to help.

Dailies!

I think I’ve figured out the central argument against the event completer dailies, at least from those who have posted here in this thread:

“Events dailies take too long to do, and I have to run around the game looking for events to get credit. It needs to be removed from the game because myself and a handful of other players don’t want to do them. This isn’t about rewards, this is about my personal opinion on game design.

Myself and a few others have given equally opinionated versions of why we are in favor of the event completer daily. But those players who dislike doing these achievements (or dislike the fact that the achievements even exist in the first place) don’t want to hear about positive opinions supporting their existence. They want their opinions, and only their opinions validated. Remove this thing from the game that I don’t like, I don’t care if others do like it and I don’t care what their reasons are. I will not back down, for my opinion is the one that’s important.

The players here who support this achievement’s removal will continue to say that their voices and opinions aren’t being heard because there is content in the game that they don’t want to do and even after posting that they don’t want to do it, it’s still here. How dare anyone else have an opinion different from theirs? Bear in mind that they’ve similarly dismissed all positive opinions in favor of these achievements, effectively trying to silence the discussion by pointing out how opinions of others are either less thought out or less important.

Just get on with your life and do a different daily. Seriously, what is the problem with that mentality?

How about this instead:
Tequatl takes too long to complete. I can’t get it done every single day. It needs to be made easier or faster in some way, or maybe players should be able to loot the boss chest and get full event cycle rewards at the start of the event instead of the end, so that way people just there for the rewards can get the stuff and people who just want to kill the dragon can stick around and do that too. But I shouldn’t have to do it if I don’t want to. This isn’t fair, it takes too long, and sometimes it fails! So I’ve spent all the time doing the event and I get nothing for it?! How is that fair?!

Do you see how ridiculous that sounds? How entitled I come across?

If I enjoy doing something in a game, I do it. If don’t enjoy doing something, I don’t go to the forums and immediately demand its removal—instead, I go do something else and get on with my life.

[QoL Suggestion] Favorite Friends List

I’m all for a favorites list at the top of our friends list. Maybe just put a little checkbox next to a player name in the list and it automatically pins them to the top when you activate? Might not be too difficult to implement, not sure though.

But woah, Orpheal… it’ll be okay, friend. It’s not all that serious, what does it really matter if someone can see where you’re at in Tyria? They can’t see “generally everything about [you]” as you stated, and if you truly “lost your faith in humanity” when you saw how the follower system worked then I think maaaayyybe you need to take a small break and analyse your priorities.

Holy cow, that rant. I could go on but there’s no reason to. I don’t mean this as a personal attack toward you in any way, I’m just a little afraid for your blood pressure based on that rant. Heart attack incoming, over a very simple videogame friend list.

It truly isn’t that serious. It will be okay!

I do NSS on a really regular basis. I offer dual portals to the JP and goggles with two mesmer alts once a week or so, sometimes more often, and I’ve noticed this happen on multiple occasions. I think it’s to do with latency and lagspikes, as this happens significantly more often when my connection is poor and my ping is spiking.

I’m assuming it relates to character positioning. I may be mistaken, but I think when the server receives your character’s positional and movement data from your game client, it extrapolates your character’s new placement based on where your starting point was and how long you held your movement keys. If this is correct, when there is a brief lagspike or you have a poor connection, the game servers will instead try to approximate your position as closely as possible. This isn’t usually a big deal when you’re on regular terrain as a slight shift of a few pixels in one direction or another won’t drastically change your gameplay experience, and I wouldn’t be surprised if in fact your game client overrides the server’s assumed positional data for your character if it’s within a few degrees of “closeness” to the server’s approximation.

However, in places like NSS where there are game mechanics tied directly to movement like the jump pads and cogwheels, this approximation can be a bit more drastic in where it will put you. If the server thinks you’re a few steps ahead of where you actually are, it will launch you further than you intended. Similarly, if your character is moving in a certain lateral direction (forward/backward/left/right) at the time a jump pad launches you, it will launch you in the direction you were moving a little bit. What this means is that all of those movement mechanics in NSS like the jump pads and the cogwheels can be interfered with to adjust where they put you. Most of the time you won’t experience it, but if you move at just the right moment before a cogwheel spins you will notice that it launches you slightly further (if moving forward when it goes off) or a bit shorter distance (if facing forward while moving backward when it goes off). Same goes for the jump pads.

(Sidenote: While this is usually a detriment to players trying to complete the JP, it can be used to your advantage if you get the timing just right. Particularly on the final jump before you reach the goggles— you can start to move forward just as the jump pad launches you and you’ll land on the goggles platform directly, instead of the little pipe that sticks out. It takes a bit of practice but it can be perfected to become repeatable relatively easily)

With all this in mind, it’s not really any surprise that those cogwheels and jump pads can play wonky sometimes. Best advice I have for this jumping puzzle is to give yourself plenty of time between jumps to let your nerves calm, and make sure your ping isn’t spiking before you jump on the cogwheels.

I understand that this is probably not the answer you were looking for, but that’s the best explanation I can give.

Good luck!

eldvin monastery brew club 2017?

It would be nice, even if they gave us a letter each month to go to a certain place in tyria and find a random person who has it and collect it from him. Kind of like, Nicholas the Traveler for Guild Wars 1.

A bit unrelated to the topic at hand, but I would love to see a Nicholas the Traveler in GW2. Perhaps a long-lost relative?

Though I think the Pact Supply Network Agents are Anet’s answer to Nicholas from GW1, so it’s probably unlikely.

Anyway, on topic: I doubt there will be any updates to the brew club achievement. It wasn’t an achievement specific to 2016, and any new players who purchase the game tomorrow will be able to start progress on it immediately.

Enjoy your brewmaster’s backpack, though.

Not only are Spirit Shards obtainable through other means, they are also worth very little in terms of purchasing power. There’s not much worth buying with shards, and therefore it’s my opinion that you really aren’t missing out on much, OP.

I think deleting your account over something as trivial as this is a really silly thing to do, and I think you’ll regret it, but that’s entirely your prerogative.

Also guys, as has been said countless times before, if you don’t like the event completer daily, do a different one. There are LOTS to choose from and you only need to complete three.

This is like getting angry because you don’t like that a restaurant gave you ketchup with your fries. Don’t eat the ketchup, have ranch instead and get on with your life. Problem solved.

If you don’t like a specific type of content that’s in the game (event completer dailies) then the answer for you is quite simple: pick a different daily and get on with your life. Don’t ruin it for everyone else just because you don’t want to participate.

Repopulation and Guild content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

I agree with IWN. I think this is a good idea worth pursuing. There really isn’t much of a downside, and as it stands for the claiming system in WvW, a guild can only hold claim to one objective, so even if there are multiple big guilds running around an Orr map, they’ll only be able to claim one shrine at a time before giving up previous claims, which would allow any other guild to come along and claim it.

I think the best option would be to set it up the same as in WvW— you aren’t required to be an active participant in the capture event to be able to claim an objective, it just has to be unclaimed for you to be able to put your guild tags on it and reap any benefits your guild may have unlocked in the GH (such as increased supply or stat boosts within the objective area). If this were extended to PvE, for example, a random person running past an unclaimed (but non-hostile) Nebo Terrace would be able to claim it for whatever benefits it might give them.

For balance purposes, I don’t think guild claiming in PvE should extend to summoning of additional or more powerful guard NPCs (which I believe is a thing in WvW, iirc), but I don’t really see stat increases like +Power or +MF as being a detriment in any way to game balance. As in WvW, these stat increases should apply to all players in the area, not just those within that specific guild.

Heck, you could even open up bank, TP, or crafting station access as a spendable consumable specifically for PvE guild claiming. This could become a whole new set of unlocks in the Guild Hall.

Again, love the idea, OP. Thanks for posting.

To those who dislike zone event completions, the best counter argument I have is the current events that take place in specific zones which require small zergs to complete. The leyline charging events in Maelstrom, Snowden, and Blazeridge are exceedingly difficult (practically impossible) to solo without a specific class and the perfect set of circumstances during the event. These are also required to be completed multiple times in each map to fully finish the current events associated with them. Myself and some guildmates were struggling to finish these as they were the last few current events we hadn’t completed, and even when you try to rally folks via map chat to assist you, event failure was a pretty common occurrence.

Enter the Mount Maelstrom (et al) event completion daily. We finished those leyline current events in Maelstrom within no time at all— every time the event would start, we would already have a smallish zerg with us to assist in completion, and every time the events were successful.

Simply put, without these zone-specific event completion dailies, we would likely still be struggling to finish those current events. I understand that if we’d taken part in them immediately upon release we probably wouldn’t have had any issues, but it’s been many months since they were introduced and I imagine there is still a large portion of players who would like to complete these achievements. Zone-specific dailies give players this opportunity.

The same can be said for just about any event tied to an achievement that is difficult to complete without a zerg. Wait to do the event until a day when the map it’s on is a part of event completer rotation and you’ll be able to successfully complete the event (and thus the achievement) with relative ease.

Please don’t remove zone-specific event completion dailies.

If you’re interested in PvP or WvW look for another game. Profession design and balance is terrible. Pro players have expressed written complaints numerous times. Almost everything skillful in nature has been systematically removed or nerfed into uselessness. Build diversity is even worse than it used to be. It’s that bad.

Nah. It’s not that bad, disregard the melodrama. For those who have been away for several years, PvP has been totally revamped since you last played, and while it’s true that HoT power creep has caused many old builds to be obsolete, PvP and WvW are not the total disaster that Deceiver would have you believe.

Join up with an active WvW guild on your server and you’ll see that the game is still alive and well. Lots of roamers, lots of small groups flipping towers, and as always there are numerous zergs to follow along with if that’s your thing. Or start queueing up for PvP in the new league system (currently in season 5, though, so you have a bit of catching up to do in terms of achievements and progression if that’s your thing). Find a build you like and queue for ranked league matches, you’ll need to play 10 matches to get your actual ranking placement so that’s probably a good place to start.

If you go the PvP route, remember that during the initial 10 ranking matches, it might put you in some wildly unbalanced matches. This is bound to happen at least a few times during those starter matches, either you will be on a team that totally dominates the opposition or vice versa, but once you get into your actual placement on the leaderboard, matches tend to be considerably more balanced than in previous seasons.

If you’re after PvE play, as others have suggested, definitely pick up Heart of Thorns and start there. If you’ve been logging in regularly enough to have unlocked the Living World maps up to the release of HoT, I would absolutely recommend checking out Silverwastes. It’s a fun zone but you’ll hear a lot of negativity against it these days simply for the fact that most of us have played it into oblivion. SW is still one of the easiest maps to farm loot, though, and I actually still have fun just running the meta there from time to time.

Also, welcome back. If you get HoT, pursue gliding immediately. It will change your life in GW2.

Depending on how long ago you used the makeover kit, you might be able to contact support to see if they can help you out with replacing it. If you didn’t change your character’s appearance much and it was pretty recent, they might be understanding to your plight.

Of course, if you’re sitting on a small stack of total makeover kits, they probably will be less inclined to assist.

Maybe worth asking, though! They’ve always been pretty understanding when I’ve needed help. Good luck

Yeah, you might want to doublecheck that it’s possible to salvage the purchased ascended items from the new maps, but if it is, that would probably be the least painful and least time-intensive method. After a few days of gathering berries in Bitterfrost you should have enough to purchase one of the trinkets to salvage. It takes me around 10 minutes to gather most of the berries there each day so that would be something extremely easy you could add to your gameplay checklist. The ascended ring there (Black Ice Band) costs 200 winterberries and 2k unbound, and you could get 200 berries within 3-4 days.

But as flesh wound said, definitely check into it first. I haven’t done this myself so I’m not 100% certain they are salvageable.

I don’t think it would be such a difficult thing to implement, actually. As it stands, you can already “preview” items you currently have in your guild’s decorations ‘inventory.’ Just select the item you want to place and move your cursor out from the decorations list and boom, the decoration in its full glory will follow your cursor around until you place it somewhere.

I think the simplest method of implementation would be to allow players to select items that they haven’t crafted yet and still show the “preview” as above, except you won’t be able to actually place it.

This would give players the ability to see all possible decorations within the game, in their own guild hall, before actually crafting them.

I’d love a feature like this. Thanks for the post!

-facepalms-
You’re too lazy to do the Dailies, then you don’t get the rewards for it.
Too bad for you.

This, absolutely. There are 5 Wintersday dailies to choose from, not including the 10 (15?) other non-Wintersday dailies you could do.

If you don’t want to spend the brief amount of time it takes to get the Wintersday dailies completed, you don’t gain progress on the Wintersday daily meta achieve and thus you won’t get the gift skins. If you want the skins, do the dailies.

If you don’t want to do any of the other dailies on offer, you don’t get the 2g and 10AP. Want the gold and achievement points? Do the dailies.

The entitlement in these daily threads always irks me. It would be different if dailies took a few hours to complete, but c’mon guys, it takes at most 20 minutes to do this stuff (and usually you can have them done much, much faster).

Also, skip dailies sometimes if you feel it becoming too much of a chore. As someone else said earlier in this thread, by realizing that sometimes you just don’t have the time nor the inclination to complete your daily achievements, you might actually start to enjoy yourself more. The game will feel like less of a ‘checklist of things to complete’ and more like, well, a game.

Life goes on.

What is the best way to make gold?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

drunkenpilot.9837

for an option purely in game that you can grind all day any time, gathering is 15-20g/h iirc

You do not make 20g/h gathering plz.

You can quite easily make 20g/hr gathering. Just because you personally have not made that much doesn’t mean others haven’t—you may not be familiar with the specific routes other players take or the shortcuts they take advantage of.

Farming strictly rich iron veins on a per character basis can give you around 5-6g every twenty minutes or so (takes around 2 minutes to hit each rich vein provided you know where they are and have the waypoints unlocked, and there are 10-11 that are easily reachable every day, each giving about 20 iron per harvest). So farming rich iron veins alone will give you around 10-15g per hour depending on how quickly you move from vein to vein. If you were to introduce even a single good waypoint for hard wood (one with 5-6 nodes immediately near the WP) into your farm, you could easily stretch that to 20g or more.

Node farming is not glamorous, but it is certainly profitable. Repeatable, steady income, provided you have the time and patience.

Farming nodes for materials puts money in the bank.

Hit every permanent iron and platinum vein with every character every day and sell it all.

Farm hard wood on a few alts a day for a little extra, and hit up the elder wood farms in Orr with all of your alts each day.

Do all of these things every day and you’ll have more gold than you know what to do with after a while. It can become incredibly tedious the more regularly you do it (so much so that you will likely burn out on it after a few days) but it’s a pretty solid way of making gold.

Guild Hall Decorations..flop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

Woah, these are awesome.

A portion of the community has been asking for more big decorations that can be used to create whole new structures and such in the guild hall. The SAB decorations, in particular the SAB walls and floors that you can craft, were the first step and these new snow block decorations are another huge leap in the right direction.

That said, I do think it would have been neat to see a few other holiday themed decorations, other than the snowman, but these huge blocks are great. They aren’t even really that expensive when you compare them to other big decorations that have recently been introduced, like the new fractal platforms and blocks (which require lots and lots of fractal farming before you are able to get enough to use them for structure creations).

I’m actually really glad you posted this thread and thanks also to Kelly for posting the Imgur screenshots. I hadn’t looked into the new decorations yet and expected expensive holiday themed stuff. This gives me a goal to work toward this Wintersday season!

drunkenpilot.9837

I guess I’m in the minority here. I like that they’re finally introducing things to the Black Lion chests to make them worth pursuing. I’m still a bit peeved that they’ve limited the home instance nodes to a small selection per seasonal chest as it’s caused the price of all of them to go up pretty significantly, but aside from that I like the variety of seeing new things added to the chests. Previously, there was very little point in seeking out keys as you would almost inevitably get boosters and other fairly useless consumables unless you got extremely, extremely lucky with a node or permanent contract. There really wasn’t much middle ground, it was either an extremely rare drop or mostly junk.

With the changes they’ve made, Black Lion Keys actually have some value to me now and I’ve found myself actually doing map completion again to hopefully get a key. Items like the Bitterfrost Vantage Point and the other BL chest account-bound exclusives are interesting enough to make the keys worthwhile, but not so interesting that they are required to play the game.

All of the items in these chests are superficial and not a single one of them is required for game progress. I’d really love to see more unique things added to the chest’s drop table as time goes on.

And regarding the Bitterfrost Vantage Point, a mesmer can port you up there if you really want to see what the fuss is about. It is not exciting in any way, it is simply a pretty little cliff with a tree. Whisper me the next time you see me online, I will be happy to log my mesmer and port you up so you can verify for yourself that you aren’t missing anything game-changing.

Personal Story Corrected

drunkenpilot.9837

Yeah I finished my personal story to the end on one character so I could feel I completed it. This happened well over a year ago. Now your saying I have to replay it just cause. Sorry, no thank you, and I feel jipped that you choose to reset something I completed because you want me to do it over. I want to play things and do things I wish to do in the game, not have to replay something I don’t want to just to feel like I finished it when I already did almost 2 years ago.

I think you misunderstood Gaile’s post.

If you successfully completed your personal story on that character, this update likely did not affect you. Log onto that character and check to see if you have an in-game mail from Scholar Aiti about your personal story. If you do, then you missed a step somewhere along the way. If not, the update did not affect you.

This fix targets those characters having a gap somewhere in their Chapter 7 and/or 8 story lines only. No other Personal Story, Heart of Thorns, or Living World quests should be affected by this fix.

Hope this helps explain things a bit.

Trading post revolutionary™ idea

(…)
Its like opening a document that contains 10 pages. The computer already remember whats written in all 10 pages (saved data), it will not reduce the performance if you decide to scroll to page 3, instead of reading the pages in order. Same concept.

This is also incorrect. I challenge you to open a 100 page PDF and skip to page 45 (or any page, really). You will see that it takes your computer a moment to load the information from that page. Unless you have already viewed that page and it’s been loaded into RAM, it will take a moment for your system to convert the data from binary to a viewable format suitable for your video settings.

I imagine the trading post is no different. Yes, the data from every transaction is already saved, but to separate it into piecemeal access as you describe would require additional resources than are currently needed.

This isn’t a necessary feature.

Illusionary Leap needs updating

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

I use this skill regularly, in PvE as well as PvP and WvW. It’s highly effective but you will get the most mileage out of this skill when your opponent (if they are a player, that is) is not focusing on you.

It is also significantly more effective if you pair this skill with a different CC of some kind. I use a hydromancy sigil (probably a bad choice compared other options, but it works for me) on my sword as I tend to weapon swap a lot, and if you hit them with the chilled from that weapon swap, then immediately use Illusory Leap to cripple them and follow through with the clone swap and immob. I would hazard a guess that this works about 60-70% of the time. The key here is to do the full skill cycle as fast as possible to ensure your target is still close enough to your clone for the immob to land.

If you don’t want to use hydromancy, you could instead use any of the Chronomancer’s wells (except Well of Precognition or Well of Eternity [heal] as they don’t have CC’s). If you lay a well down at your target to hit them with the initial CC from slow/chill/cripple, you will significantly increase your chances of getting a successful immob swap from Illusionary Leap.

Similarly, if you have a quickness buff active when attempting the leap, you should be able to successful immob them with it the majority of the time.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Remember also that in a player versus player scenario, 2 seconds of CC (from immob) is not enough to change the tide of a fight if your opponent knows what they’re doing. Comboing CC’s together as above will give you way more mileage out of these skills as opposed to using them one at a time throughout the course of a fight. The more you can juggle your opponent and keep them from being able to successfully control their character, the more you will find opportunities to hit them with bursts and hopefully bring them to a downstate before they can cleanse or react.

If Heroes return in GW2....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

I really, really hated when the heroes system was introduced into GW1. It was the system that started that game down the path of being a single player game.

Go to GW1 and try to get a PUG going for any difficult content. If you manage to get 1 or 2 other players to join you, you’ll be lucky, but the one or two other people who join will insist on bringing their heroes with them, so much so that they will leave your group if you decline.

When GW1 was fresh and young, it was leagues more entertaining to me, because it felt much more like an actual MMORPG in that you would be playing with a large group of other people. You might bring one or two henchmen along, especially if you weren’t able to find a dedicated healer for the team, but otherwise groups were almost always formed of primarily all players. Today it is a relative wasteland of solo players soloing all the content they want to do. Granted, the game doesn’t have the playerbase it once did to support strictly player-driven parties, but even if you go to Kamadan where most people hang out these days and try to organize a map exploration group or a boss run or to hunt for elite skills, you’ll spend at least a solid hour begging in chat and will likely be spammed and/or insulted. Apparently you’re considered a “noob” these days for wanting to play with other humans in a self-proclaimed MMO.

I apologize for any hostility that comes through in this post. It isn’t directed toward the playerbase, really, because that’s simply what GW1 has evolved into and it’s what Anet decided they wanted for their game. I do still play from time to time, but it isn’t what it once was and I attribute a lot of that “solo” mentality to the introduction and ongoing updating of the heroes system.

So, please, no heroes in GW2. We have the playerbase to support dungeon and raid runs without introducing heroes. Don’t shape GW2 into a single player MMO. Please?

Adding a Guild wars 2 Codex into the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

I love the idea of an in-game codex as described in that WoodenPotatoes video (as well as other posters here), but as several more knowledgeable people than myself have already stated, it just isn’t feasible. An out-of-game codex is entirely possible, however, if you were to use the already existing wiki. I don’t think it would be too difficult to add lore-based information on already existing pages regarding specific creatures, bosses, or factions.

I really do love the idea of lore being incorporated more into the wiki, but it needs to be something that the players themselves support and maintain as opposed to Anet staff. The developers and writers for the game certainly already have enough on their plates and to ask them to divert their attention from their current workload to a labor of love like this is a bit overreaching in my opinion.

So why can’t we do this ourselves? There are a lot of community members here on the forums who are incredibly lore-focused, and there are even a few high profile lore fans, such as WoodenPotatoes. If enough interest could be generated and a straightforward system of implementation could be developed for the wiki, I don’t think it would be too difficult to start adding information you might find in an in-game codex to individual wiki pages.

I imagine it would be something similar to what you might see on a card in a trading card game, like Magic: The Gathering. On each M:TG card, there are attributes and system-based mechanics shown on the card, and at the bottom of each card is a small portion of “flavor text” which is typically some brief quote or lore-based snippet of information relating to that specific card. Why not do something similar on the wiki?

Many pages already exist on the wiki which cover in-game lore and history of specific creatures of Tyria. Take the karka, for example:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Karka

There is a lot of information there which has practically no functional use. There’s info describing their history, their migrations, their hive organization, and so on. Most of this information is not particularly useful in terms of game mechanics, but it’s really interesting to be able to read up on the history of a specific species of creature in Tyria. There really is nothing stopping the community from fleshing out more pages like this.

Remember that even though much of the lore of this game has not been fleshed out in great detail by Anet, there is still a vast quantity of information that one could glean from simply playing the game and studying the creatures of Tyria. Go to the Priory and read up on the different subjects in the archive there, then cross-reference some of that information with things you see and encounter while traveling and you can start paint a more detailed picture of Tyria.

Just an idea, anyway.

Looking for a new class - Die too often :(

tl;dr— Guard, Necro, or Engi, ranked in that order.

I think if it’s easy-mode PvE you’re going for, a dragonhunter guard build is your best bet. Meditrapper is what I use for the most part, and it really is an incredibly simple and fun build in just about all corners of the game. Even with full zerker gear, you’ve got tons of CC you can utilize in case you start finding yourself overwhelmed, not to mention a solid invuln (F3) that you can use as a panic button. That said, they are a bit slower, so you may consider sacrificing zerker runes for either runes of speed or runes of the traveler for the permanent 25% boost. I use runes of speed in PvE, though I have different builds for WvW and PvP.

While Engi is certainly great for PvE but it does require the player be a bit more attentive to what’s happening in combat than a DH or necro, or you might find yourself in a quick downstate. Engi does have its own fair share of panic buttons too, though, so you might give it a try if you like a class that forces you to engage a bit more with the game. I should note that engineers also have some really fun tools in their belt (pun intended? probably).. what other classes let you play with a flamethrower and grenades?

Necro is more of a middle ground between these two, I’d say. With their incredibly deep health pool, you can take a real beating and walk away from most fights unscathed. You’ll have more versatility across different builds than a guard might, but again, you’ll need to pay closer attention to what’s going on and what skills you’re using.

Getting bored really easily/quickly lately?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

If you are really finding it difficult to stay engaged and interested in the game, then my best recommendation would be to simply take a break. This might sound negative toward Guild Wars 2, but I don’t intend it to come across that way.

I’ve been playing GW2 almost daily since about a month after launch (I didn’t get in on the ground floor, unfortunately, so no baseball cap for me), and over the course of a four year period, it is completely natural to find yourself getting a bit burned out with a game you’ve been playing that entire time.

So, take a break! I don’t mean cut yourself out of the game completely, of course, but take a few steps back and start playing something else for a week or two. Log on to GW2 and get your daily, harvest your flax, do the quick daily things you typically do when you log on, and when you finish those things, sign off and do something else. After a while (probably after the release of a new content patch), you’ll come back to the game with “fresh eyes” so to speak, and you’ll likely find something you find interesting to do again.

This is the cycle I go through every six months or so and it generally works for me. I’m not suggesting you should stop playing the game entirely, just scale back your focus a little bit and distract yourself. I know you’ve said that you go days without playing and come back bored, so maybe this solution won’t really apply to you, I’m not sure. Hope this helps in some way and you do ultimately find your niche in Tyria.

Enemy density question

drunkenpilot.9837

You’re missing the point. People only mention berries because let’s face it, that’s pretty much the only thing to “do” in this map, beside map exploration. Also, I find this logic amusing “It’s doable, so no need to complain”. People keep repeating same things. Do you guys even read posts? It’s silly to get into a discussion if it’s one sided. It’s not about dying or being unable to farm berries. It’s about how annoying map in general. I’m pretty sure majority of people won’t be in a hurry to visit this map again anytime soon, once they are done with story/berries. It’s a shame resources and development time go for things that soon turn into desert.
I’m not saying no to a challenge, I welcome it gladly. But mobs farting CC on repeat while they have broken AI, messed up aggro, insane spawns and density it’s just silly and poor, lazy design.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. I really enjoy the new map, I farm stuff there pretty often and I love the map design. I also don’t think the high level of CC (chill, mostly) is a bad thing. What other maps in the game have so many mobs that slam you with CC? Verdant Brink perhaps, in some areas, but for the most part this type of thing isn’t really found anywhere else in GW2 and I like the variety, even if it can be a bit annoying when you are trying to avoid combat.

I suppose I should accept that I’m in the minority here regarding Bitterfrost. I love the map, I love the huge swarms of enemies, and I’d love to see a few more maps in this style.

EDIT: For clarification, I feel I should mention that almost all core Tyria maps are exceedingly sparse with regard to mob density. We have had that side of the coin for years now, why not embrace a little change, if only in this one map?

Enemy density question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

Is it truly that difficult to farm berries, though? I’ve farmed berries in Bitterfrost on mesmer, guard, thief, and ranger. Yes, the chill can be annoying, but it isn’t a stopping point. Either avoid the mobs as best you can, harvest, and run off to the next set of berry bushes, or kill the mobs as you go and harvest after they’re dead.

And you don’t need to “form a group” to gather here. There are almost always enough players running around farming berries at any given time that you can tag along with one of them and help each other out as you spend the 10 minutes it requires to farm most of the berries in the western part of the map.

Then again, if you’re running around with a character equipped in blues and greens or a non-80 character, I suppose you’re gonna have a bad time.

Enemy density question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

drunkenpilot.9837

Maybe I’m weird, but I love high density mob areas. I am a total sucker for big mob groups—if I see a group of 6+ mobs ambling around together, or better yet several groups of 6+ mobs within agro range of each other, I will do my best to pull as many mobs together as I possibly can and try to take them all on at once. It ends with my death sometimes, but other times I walk away with a nicely filled up inventory full of delicious blues and greens which my Salvage-O-Matic happily chews on while I’m running off to the next mob group.

I’m pretty sure I annoy my guildies by doing this sometimes, especially if we’re actively trying to accomplish something. I can’t help myself!

tl;dr: please don’t lower enemy density.

First recommendation I have is to set up an account on gw2efficiency.com if you haven’t yet, as it’s a really handy tool to use if you have a lot of alts and are looking for a specific item that might be hidden or stashed on a random character you haven’t used in a while. There is a small amount of setup involved to be able to view your account, but it just takes a few minutes and you won’t have to mess with it again unless you decide to change something. The website allows you to view a number of things but the most useful feature in my opinion is the search function which will allow you to search your entire account for a specific item. Super useful when you can’t remember where you left your keys.

Once you’ve done that, if it hasn’t turned up, I would recommend submitting a ticket with customer support. If you truly no longer have the mini, they will be able to tell you what’s happened to it and in some cases, they may be able to restore it for you if it was accidentally deleted.

Hope this helps!

Self-imposed game and character challenges?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

So, the Tyrian Travels thing lately has somehow reminded me of some of the self-imposed challenges players have come up with over the years, like the Iron Man Challenge outlined here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2bkhtl/gw2_ironman_challenge/

The recent Vikki and Momo posts have made me think of a new type of challenge that I might actually attempt: The Non-Combat Challenge (I am not clever with names, lel)

How difficult would it be to try to get a character through from level 1 to level 80 without the use of any tomes as well as avoiding combat entirely? No weapons equipped, and only utility skills which do no damage could be used. Perhaps you’d have to limit a character to using a specific set of gear like the Iron Man Challenge to keep the difficulty up. Using a tanky guard build with full exotics, for example, would basically nullify any real reason to run from combat when you could practically wade through most mobs.

Thoughts? Anyone want to attempt this with me? Level through only exploration, gathering, non-combat renown hearts and other “friendly, helpful Tyrian” methods? It probably sounds incredibly boring to most, but I think it sounds interesting.

If you have some other ideas on ways to spice this challenge up, or if you have some other unique challenges you’ve read about or come up with, post them here. I’m curious to see if anyone has tried some really wacky things and found something they had a lot of fun with.

Guys, wow. Calm down. There’s no reason to get so bent out of shape over this.

It’s a fun little side story about a character exploring Tyria. They aren’t heavily investing development time into this. This is not detracting from work that is actively progressing. And in response to the question posed in the OP, yes, I read the Tyrian Travels and I find them delightfully entertaining. Some of us do indeed enjoy a little lightheartedness from time to time.

We just got a new map, like, a week ago. Put down the pitchforks. Yowza.

Deposit Common Items?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

drunkenpilot.9837

Ah, so you mean instead of depositing an item into material storage, it would be deposited into your bank tabs directly, supposing it’s a stackable item and there is already a non-full stack in storage?

Interesting idea, though I’m not sure it’s something that would ever be implemented. Seems as though it might be easily “abused,” so to speak.

I’m all in favor of more deposit-able stuff, though. I think many of us are, and I believe one of the devs has made it her pet project to overhaul the bank deposit system. Looking forward to seeing what changes that brings!

Will there be a black friday gem store sale.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

drunkenpilot.9837

I think you’d be better off expecting a special sale on Cyber Monday. Online shops like Newegg and Steam tend to have bigger sales on that day than on Black Friday.

Black Friday is actually more of a retail shopping day than an online shopping day. Check back Monday and I’ll bet there’s at least a little something special going on then. However, don’t expect a blowout sale like we had with the anniversary sale a few months back. Anet tends to schedule their gem store sales around in-game or special events related to the game itself rather than a national holiday.

Why are Gemstore skins > Legendary skins?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

tl;dr: The Ascension is great as it is, please don’t change it. I also think the Crystalline wings are kinda ugly, but that’s just my opinion.

I love the Ascension and I would be disappointed if they changed its appearance to look more like the crystalline wings. I also don’t really like the look of the crystalline wings. I think they’re almost too flashy, and for me that’s saying something because typically I love items that have lots of particle effects or glows/auras. I’m just not a fan of the new crystalline wings.

Having said that, I think it’s awesome that Anet introduced these wings because I know a lot of players love them. That’s great. It’s a good thing for them to continue releasing gem store skins that appeal to wider audiences—this makes Anet more money through gem sales and that translates into increased payroll/etc for employees and thus more/better content.

The wings and glider skins are evolving. They have been ever since the very first type of wings were introduced in the game. I think the first set was probably the holographic dragon wings, or the shattered holographic wings? Not sure. But when those initially came, a lot of players hated them because they seemed to ignore physics—as your player would run, the wings wouldn’t react to the movement in any way and it looked unnatural.

Some time later, the white and black feather wings were introduced and these also suffered the same problem of ignoring physics, but Anet patched them to address this and the wings now sort of “flow” around your character as you move through the world. Some players didn’t like that the feather wings did this and also said it seemed too unnatural, and a lot of the playerbase still to this day seems torn between liking or disliking physics based wings, which I assume is why we have some wings that react to in-game physics and some wings that don’t.

When gliders were first introduced, there were absolutely no wing glider skins which “flapped” as you were gliding. This is no longer the case, since the new Crystalline wings apparently flap while you glide (I don’t own them, so I can’t say from experience that this is the case but that’s my understanding based on other forum posts). This alone should be proof that gliders and wings are evolving as Anet gets more experience in working with these types of skins.

This evolution is a good thing, but again, I don’t feel that it’s necessary to retroactively change all of the gliders and wings to include a “flapping” feature. It may look great on some wings, but others it may seem just as unnatural to certain players as non-physics based wings do.

Regarding The Ascension or Ad Infinitum, I think it would be a mistake for Anet to make any significant changes to the design of those legendary back items without first consulting the playerbase in the form of a poll or something similar. A lot of players worked really hard to get these skins unlocked and a lot of folks are likely pretty happy with the outcome and the way they look. I haven’t unlocked Ad Infinitum, but I love The Ascension and one of my characters uses that skin almost exclusively.

And as a side-note, remember that we don’t have a “flying” mastery, we have a “gliding” mastery. To me, it doesn’t make sense that all wings should have a flapping animation, since we’re always gliding in a downward trajectory.

Essence of Luck Eater

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

This isn’t a bad idea necessarily, but I think a better method of spending excess luck would be with a new NPC that uses [Essence of Luck (exotic)] as currency. Perhaps you could buy things like Grover mentioned, but I think it would be best to stick to items that are strictly account bound like Spirit Shards or transmutes or common ascended mats like bloodstone. Luck is incredibly common, so you would want to make sure that there wasn’t really a method of profiting much off using it as currency rather than consuming it, else you might run the risk of negatively impacting the economy in some unforeseen way.

But regardless of its implementation, I think the idea of an alternate use for excess luck is a great one.

Suggestion: Remove 20% Copper-Fed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drunkenpilot.9837

drunkenpilot.9837

A better idea would be an option to turn off all green or lower loot going into your inventory at all. This game is the most stingy of anything I have ever seen, and quite frankly, most of junk they dump on us is just an insult, so I’d rather just get nothing at all.

Haha. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve read in a while—thanks for the laugh. “I hate loot. Take it all away, give me nothing instead.” The lulz, my friend. The lulz.

And honestly if you really don’t want all the greens and blues I will happily take them off your hands. My material storage is pretty empty these days and my Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic is HUNGRY.

More seriously though, Just a Flesh Wound’s suggestion is absolutely the best one I’ve seen on this topic. It really does address a number of concerns and in my opinion would be a huge QoL improvement if it were implemented. +1 for sure.

I can attest to this happening also, although it hasn’t happened for me yet tonight (just about to log on now). Last night myself and a guildmate were partied up exploring the new map, and at one point both of us disconnected back to character select screen at the same time. I lost a mastery point from the DC (in addition to the third level of Ancient Magics mastery which I’d trained immediately after gaining said mastery point).

About a minute after loading back in it disconnected again, kicking me back to character select. Logged back in, joined on my friend (who had not disconnected a second time) and the rest of the play session was fine for us (about an hour). Got the mastery point I’d lost and all is well.

I’ll post here if it happens again tonight.

I get where you’re coming from but I guess I just don’t understand why “Legendary” can only refer to some ultra serious looking or “tough guy” skin. I honestly think that even the so-called cutesy or silly legendary skins are pretty epic. The Dreamer is awesome! It shouldn’t be demoted to a “regular” skin simply because it has a few silly effects.. those effects are what make it legendary to me.

I dunno. We’re playing a game. It doesn’t have to be totally bonkers or ridiculous in its off the wall humor, but it doesn’t all have to be snooze-fest serious or suit-and-tie prestige all the time. I like that Anet takes a middle ground stance on these designs and as another poster said, casts a wide net to appeal to a greater variety of players.

As with anything in this game, if you don’t like the new skin, you don’t have to get it.

Also: A lot of players like Quaggans. A lot of players don’t. There will never be 100% agreement on their likeability.

What does it look like when it’s “sheathed,” though? Interestingly enough, shields will override the current back piece, and I actually use a shield on a few alts simply for that effect because I feel like it’s a way of utilizing a weapon skin as a back item, albeit temporarily or when out-of-combat.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see when someone finally makes it and posts a video online. I’m hopeful that it still has some minor animations going on when it’s put away (that is, when it’s worn on the back).

I think cute or fun items should come at cute and fun prizes and or effort. A legendary weapon is serious business to make and it’s top tier; Therefore I expect nothing less then an epic piece of weaponry… There is honestly nothing epic about a fish tank, it’s just plain stupid… I know that’s just my opinion…. but I think they should have community submissions and community voting on the best legendary ideas to keep the majority happy. And sure we can do a female / male style pattern, I fully support an even balance there. But i’m pretty sure i’m going to like the outcome of polls and votes much better then many silly legendaries Anet comes up with.

Firmly disagree. This is a game. Why not have some fun? We aren’t playing Dark Souls or anything. This business isn’t that serious. Legendaries take a long while to make but they don’t have to be that serious either.

I haven’t made Quip yet but it’s probably the first legendary I’m going to craft, because FUN…and if not Quip, I will probably make The Dreamer to go along with my rainbow unicorn PvP finisher. Folks tend to take PvP just as seriously as you take your legendaries, and I like to bring a little lightheartedness into that realm by stomping people down with a big, loud unicorn who has my guild emblem tattooed on his butt and farts a rainbow out behind him as he leaps away into the sky with a whinny.

Serious business indeed.

Bitterfrost: Explorable content locked in BLC

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There are different views of p2w and similar terms, here’s one of them:
When you are paying for advantage which normal players don’t have access to unless they either pay too or will have to grind very long (weeks and months).

As far as I know, BDO had a huge kittenstorm and many players leaving because of that. You can either pay money or grind for a long, long time to get to the same things as those who paid.

Who knows how much keys I need to buy in order to get the item? It’s random. You can buy 25 keys for 2100 gems. Do you know how long I had to farm and grind for that?

This isn’t BDO, and you’re really making a mountain out of a molehill here in my opinion. The bitterfrost item is a neat random drop that lets you check out a cool vantage point. That’s it. There is no other advantage. Gliding from there to other areas of the map isn’t much of an advantage when the map isn’t that big and isn’t that hard to navigate. You can fully explore it within an hour.

And to call it explorable content is silly. There is nothing there to explore! There is no content there, unless you consider the tree and the sky “explorable content.” You can see everything that other players can see without even going up there. Watch a YouTube video of the area and boom, you’ve seen what there is to see. Are you truly that upset at being “locked out” of a literal hang-out spot simply because you haven’t gotten the lucky RNG drop from a BLC? This is the thing you’re going to get bent out of shape over? Really?

I could understand if there were merchants or bankers or other convenience things up there, but c’mon man. This is a spot to sit. Big deal!

Rage has to be directed somewhere, I guess. Such rage. Much anger. Wow.

Personally? I vote for more of these cool account bound trinkets and gadgets in Black Lion Chests. I would love for there to be a reason to actually buy keys again and when I saw this neat little thing pop up, I thought, “Hey, that’s a cool little extra. I hope I get it!”

See this as a positive, man. It could’ve been replaced with a Wintersday Gift. Would you be happier with that?
