some of us have been using it for 6 months and still get killed by it.
It’s NOT YOU
Do you run spotter and frost spirit with a sword?
I do one better…. I run double fire fields on top of that and an Ascended sword with Ascended GS on swap. Super sig of Battle & Strength to stack up might even more.
And after all that hoop jumping with 3400 base power …. I crit for a grand total of 1600 on the Sword’s highest damage attacks :p …I could even record video of it if you’d like… 6-9 stacks of Might + Fury … pretty much perma. And still only half of the DPS that a Warrior gets with barely any might, Exotic weaps, and NO fury.
If I could put better gear on my Pets…. I MIGHT be able to atleast approach the standard DPS of a Warrior or Guardian (Oh and by the way, they’re getting more damage & +Prec buffs in the next patch, while all we get is a super short-lived anti-stealth, and slightly less fragile pets).
Basilisk …..
Oh and a Jungle Raptor that summons other raptors while opening doors and ambushing overconfident Australians in WvW
Vanye’s carebear guild doesn’t run this stuff even on a monthly basis.
So he might as well not even be counted as “DOING” the content.
Doing it once, and then rarely ever again is not Replayability. MMO’s are like Rent-to-Own. If you don’t own that part of the content then you really have no credibility in the first place to be giving lectures on it
anything else full dps or go home.
Rangers can’t go full DPS in most of the content being added lately.
A big portion of their DPS is typically dead and limping around in front of them like the saddest animal clip you’ve ever watched on youtube … like a constant reminder that there’s nothing else you could have done. This is the way it’s going to be until you reroll it as a better class…
No its in the hands of a
gold diggerCarnival Barker.
/fixed.
Gold Diggers put big boobs in your face, not flash in the pan side attractions
Welcome to the future…also now you know how Rangers feel
No they don’t…. If you play a ranger perfectly, chaining combos etc … you’re still about 2k DPS below a warrior’s standard attack chain.
If you play an Ele perfectly, your team sets new Speed Clears in dungeons and easily solo 2 people at once in WvW. (usually rangers)
Sarlina here, who apparently still has a bone to pick with CD, can attest to the fact that we have little respect for spies ourselves. Caught her repping [Lost] and roaming around our BL “doing her dailies” when we were matched up against them in a previous matchup. I think I made it clear to you then, Sarlina, how we feel about spying, and that goes for or against us.
-Your little necro buddy, Bogey
o man the lols just keep coming… I didn’t tell ’em anything. Infact I let ’em walk right into a big trap and got 10 bags off them (one had a powerful blood in it… CHA CHING)
Good matchup, good matchup. If I was ever going to be trapped in a Groundhogs Day, this is the people I’d wanna be stuck with.
for pretending you’re just another thief in Lion’s Arch
I don’t even know what I’m reading anymore. …GJ dub
Even if it is an ex-CD player griefing you guys, that doesn’t entitle you all to make sweeping generalizations of an entire server of thousands based on the actions of one person. Using that train of thought, I would assume that everyone in the US is a mentally unstable gunman. You can’t just make two observations, skip a few steps, then draw a conclusion. That’s not how logic works.
I came here from CD … everyone I first played this with was from CD. And yeah, this is totally something they thought was hilarious. I think it’s funny too, especially the part about claiming to be from Core.
also you forgot Overweight
/shrug
Y’know the best part about that Treb building sabateur from CD?
The Trebs he built in our Garrison on BP…. we jumped on them and splattered core with them as they had a pride parade from one side of the garrison to the other.
Might have to start playing Yakety Sax in the background all day if this is what the next 6 days will look like.
And yeah we saw IOJ’s Anet Dev….
(edited by ilr.9675)
Jewelry Crafting @ 500 could solve a lot of this …. especially if Badges & Karma bought T7 jewelry mats
I can’t say for sure if this is monetarily driven since Anet has a rather poor history of that actually … often cutting off their own noses to spite their face. But it definitely raises a lot of questions about their judgment. It also follows their most annoying design pattern: Change for the sake of Change instead of for the sake of a better community & meta….
Scale players like Mobs are scaled within a specific Radius in PvE.
Problem solved
You can never have too many.
Doesn’t this counter everything you just said before it and only reinforce the OP’s topic?
.
There is an absurd amount of crowd control in this game. Guardians have stability. Rolling one means you get some relief from bieng stunned, knocked down, dazed, slowed, immobilised… usualy all at the same time. Its no wonder people roll one. Without them WvW would be unplayable.
This is an issue in every part of the game, dungeons especially.
What made Gw1 so awesome was that everyone COULD have access to knockdown protection … but it always required a sacrifice in other utilities. Infact the main self-induced source, linked to “Tactics”, was considered a pretty useless Attrib line for most of the game’s life and was easily countered with Stance-Breakers.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Why your adding new areas to wvw? i.e borderlands
Why your adding Leagues to wvw?
Why are you not reducing the amount of ppl from each server that can enter a wvw map to stop the horid skill lag?
Why are you not sorting out the main problems with wvw?
Why are you still letting ppl transfer to high pop servers?
Why are you letting new players join high pop servers?
None of these suggestions are actually incentives-based
And no one wants Hard-Caps on their “fun” and coordination.
Where they really need to address with this issue, is in the Outgunned mechanic.
#1: It should not be calculated by ZONE, but rather by Quadrant around specific objectives: IE: NEVER around camps or Bloodlust, only around Towers / Keeps.
#2: It should actually “Scale” fights just like PvE: IoW: outgunned players are scaled up to being Silver/Elites around Towers, and Champions around Keeps… making them also elligable to drop Empyreal & Dragonite T7 mats when defeated.
IOW: completely invert the way that Outgunned is “rewarded” so that it fits the profile of the players who are picking servers the way they are. In essence: elite players will migrate back to smaller servers where their coordination gives them what they want most: Individual Control over an otherwise zergy mess. And give the Zergs what THEY want most: Lots more rewards/drop opportunities for fighting upscaled enemies that have better A.I. than a reinforced Door….
.
If they just did that little change, then all these messed up Matchups we’ve seen lately, would become a lot more bearable for the “losing sides” who….. Let’s be honest here…. are either quitting entirely, or are just migrating to the Zerg servers like everyone else.
I don’t say this often … but … GG
According to Millenium, this was the only matchup in the top 5 that wasn’t a total blow out. And it never felt like anyone was in complete control … even when EB was completely locked down. Props to IOJ, they were always fun to play against when I was back on CD, and they were even more fun to go against now that I’m on BP.
We even managed to sweep their own BL for an hour and had a great little skirmish attempting to break through their Fortified Garrison. Good times. It’s rare to see other servers take risks & spread out their forces efficiently (something CD obviously never got the hang of …final scores might have been even closer otherwise)
(edited by ilr.9675)
All I know is…. is the 2 servers I call home …. did it every day, several times a day …before this stupid update turned it into a massive DPS-check that is now more desolate than any other corner of Sparkfly. (I see more people fighting the Krait….UNDERWATER, than I ever see step foot near Teq). Infact even group events are still being completed there including the Lich champ after the explosives escort, and the Undead Megalodon with the hilariously broken damage & attack animations
These aren’t small little deserted servers either like Henge or SF. These are servers that also complete Jormag, Grenth, & Balthazar every…single…night
Anet obviously made a huge mistake here with the HP coefficient (instead of using scaling and other more entertaining fight mechanics). Eventually they’ll have to admit to those mistakes by changing it AGAIN.
I thought people went into dungeons because they were challenging and fun.
F/U was pretty challenging…
CM was always pretty fun (but not rewarding … hence being empty now)
P2 Catacombs is now challenging after its rebuild.
P3 Cats was always fairly fun and challenging… (but mostly, it’s now the fastest)
This new path however… is none of those.
It might utilize Positioning in an engaging way … but it’s not balanced for fun teamwork
It’s a lot more like Simin in P4 actually… Requiring a lot of optimized hoop-jumping for what is ultimately a less engaging encounter, and definitely LESS reward for time put in.
(edited by ilr.9675)
some kind of decent reward might be nice for completing a long and tedious dungeon. Thanks for nothing AFail.
This has generally been our observation with dungeons since release….
It’s probably the big reason you see so much whining about this Patch.
Most should already know by now that they’re not going to be well rewarded.
Most dungeons were never rewarding for the time put in… only COE/COF was.
Their alterations to the Gold Rewards at the end didn’t change much there either. Only P2 of Arah became what many would consider “rewarding”. (some argue that P1 is too but no one talks very loudly about the details b/c there are major exploits employed for both).
They’ve had this problem for a very long time; Skill generally not being well rewarded.
Therefore people never got in the habit of trying to get better. Why should they? What do they get for it in this Update? …. nothing but forum bragging rights. (which aren’t completely accurate either b/c this is just a dungeon of mini-games like COE but doesn’t even pop Charged Cores like COE does)
I agree… it’s not the most well thought-out design.
Anet’s obviously trying to expand their boss mechanics … but they haven’t yet reached that point where they’re asking themselves " What are we doing, that’s making the fight SHORTER when players do very skilled or altruistic things for other members of their party?".
Soloing the content FOR them is not the same thing. Gw1 had much better fights where you had to put up wards or interrupts with precise timing, specific conditions, Stripping off bonds and other powerful Prots, CC’ing the mobs that applied the Prots, cleansing Hexes off your midline, etc…
My guess would be that jewelers will be able to craft infusion once it gets upped to lvl 500.
okay that would be an exemplary addition & quality of life detail….
I deserve Sky Cake
(edited by ilr.9675)
I don’t care about possible… we’re talking about convenient here.
Not to mention thieves are pretty desperate for ANY kind of niche they can possibly eek out in PvE so you should just shutup for once and let them have it…
Originally the ascended rings and infusions were only available in fractals. They were later added also into the game as a reward for daily quests through laurels. It’s a possibility that the original intent of infusions was lost in the design change that introduced the daily grind.
The original intent was rekittened from the get-go.
Grind this content —> to get this gear --> to grind same content more. —> repeat(gear);
As for +5 power. Really? Do you ALWAYS run with the best food buff. Do you ALWAYS run with a +10% potion for every dungeon/mob you fight? If you do, then get the +5AR AND +5 power. If you don’t, then stop whining for the sake of whining.
lately I have …. but only b/c I was forced to make a bunch of that crap to level up my discipline to 500 on all 3 weaponsmiths
(edited by ilr.9675)
What they’re not telling you about P2… is that you need some serious stealth for clean skips on the longest sections (hence why Pugs usually go P3 for their skips)
The Wiki page about them says they drop in Maguuma jungle, but i am pretty sure i have got them randomly in every game zones, although as a very rare drop.
Yeah there was some blurb from Anet about this….. something only dropping in SteamSpur mts. & Maguuma. Obviously that info is wrong if I got 10 of them in a level 20 Charr area on a level 40 alt.
Reading more of the responses…. I really have to wonder how many here completed Arah p1 & p4 without wiping much. Not even trying to be critical, I just wish I had some kind of frame of reference here to gauge general qualifiers like reflexes, builds, & stamina :\
Better yet… how many did P2 without skipping anything. (now there’s a real adventure). I also recall in the livestream Lief specifically mentioning toning down Aether CC spam a bit. So I really have to wonder if it’s just one of those things that’s merely tedious but got blown out of proportion on the first day b/c everyone had to “learn” together…
It’s a pile of kitten in a frame
makes all the difference
That means it’s art, right?
Better …. it means it’s pretentious
I met a berserker sword ranger (frost spirit and all) in a pug once.
no it was probably just me. I’m good at fooling people :\
….all that practice from 100 DOA runs…
But Good thread so far…
Can’t tell if Guang committed enough yet tho’

It’s a pile of kitten in a frame
makes all the difference
3:50 server time turned on comp logged into gw2
3:57 server time posted advert in the gw2 lfg tool
“non-stacking run ac path 3, skipping trash and kholer”
3:59 server time party is full
killed queen spider and final boss without stacking
4:22 server time dungeon is complete and everyone goes their separate ways
Thank you to the players who came. There was a lvl 67 warrior in there as well.
So it is not hopeless. We can make our own groups if this one sample can be believed.
I join AC paths like this everytime I see them. Every time I have, the quality of player has always been much better than the people who usually want to fight Rumblus at the top of the stairs later on… (and only waste even more time doing so).
Well yeah, we have no idea what the Insignias will require yet, or if they’ll even use a “Vision Crystal” and 10 Darkmatters. (which is still a big Time Gate mostly due to Empyreal shards being attainable at roughly half the daily amount that Dragonite is). So hopefully… they DON’T. Hopefully they’ll look more like this: Vision Thread made out of 10 Bloodstone bricks & 50 silk bolts. Elonian Badge made out of 200 thick Cured Sq’s & 2 dragon Ores. …& the insgignia itself only requiring 5 darkmatters or less.
At the point it finally releases on, it will be completely unreasonable for them to expect Tailors to use twice as much Demask in their recipes as the other 2 disciplines… atleast not without a good head-start like we already have with Deld & Elon
(edited by ilr.9675)
No
The ball’s in Anet corner to atleast bring it down to the DPS required to kill Karka Queen
(Which is actually a lot MORE rewarding ironically and requires better situational awareness and selfless-deeds as well).
There’s several ways they could do this too:
- Allow Purging & Rezzing efforts made by players on other players (otherwise known as cooperation and community-building) to extend the Timer slightly.
- Allow condition and crit builds to affect Teq’s HP’s the same way PVT’ers do.
- SCALE HIS STUPID HITPOINTS TO THE TOTAL POP OF THE SERVER (IoW: Devona’s & Fergusson’s shouldn’t be expected to face the same % TC & JQ do).
- Allow champions to drop Siege Supply that additional Siege can be built with.
They don’t have to just nerf its HP’s globably…. infact that would cheapen the achievements of everyone who got theirs during “BossWeek”. But they DO have to fix this horribly shortsighted “DPS check” design and make it into an actual repeatable fight where you’re watching what’s happening AROUND YOU instead of all our focus being on the UI and a teamspeak channel….
DPS checks are boring and overused. GET GOOD ANET. Kill the DPS check. Replace it with a “Community Goodwill” check.
Since the culling went away, they’ll load in before exploding.
That’s the Theory, but I’ve still been hit by DOZENS of them that start exploding the instant they were summoned with No time for their Models & Animation to load. And what makes this even worse, is that you can’t even interrupt Vet Acolytes anymore like you used to. They’ll start the animation and I’ll interrupt them before their Hand even makes it to the full upgright poistion (B/c I was a twitchmaster in Gw1 and often interrupted 1/4sec spells on Mo & Rit mobs). YET THEY STILL GET SUMMONED. …Meaning almost the entire casting sequence is just for show.
Vet Subjugator also do this, and I’ve got footage on Youtube of one getting his well spam off even though the client gave me a big fat “Interrupted!” message over his head.
I don’t honestly CARE what the stats ARE. The numbers could all be 1%… infact they ARE 1% on all the WvW ones. All I’m asking, is why is it set up so that you can literally acquire ascended items FASTER than you can acquire the mostly useless and Non-Powercreeping infusions?
Again: AR = pure gearbased PowerCreep
Everything else that’s an Infusion currently = WHO CARES.
So why are the who cares ones harder to acquire than the items they go into???
It does beg the question though: WHY NOT??
This is a stupid game the Market & Crafting devs are playing together here.
When 500 in armor CRAFTING becomes available, Armorsmith and Leatherworker especially will have a huge lead on Tailors and thus have much cheaper Mats, yet will still be competing for the same Gossamar insignias. Wool and Cotton especially will soar to 2-3 silver per scrap if not more while most Leathers continue to flatline and suffer from the same deflation most of them have beekittennce early spring.
The least they could do here is open up Demask crafting a month ahead of their ascended armor to atleast prevent some of the Price-Shock that’s going to hit all Tailors under their current schedule.
As long as it’s not as bad as the worlds in S.A.B. :p
Does the Clockheart lock all party members out of half the skills on their bar whenever a Warrior auto’s it with 5K damage Axes, and prebuilds Adren to 100b’s it?? Does it heal itself for huge numbers everytime a Mesmer or Guardian puts up a Feedback or grants the party Haste/Aegis??
NO???
Then it’s not Mallyx
(unless you’re a ranger…. then yes you’re definitely fighting Mallyx)
maybe because its new?
It’s just like Tequatl and Liadri …. they’re only under the illusion that it’s challenging because they don’t really have a firm grasp on what truly challening feels like. All they really know is Rote-Challenge.
A real challenge would require them to step away from the standard COE speedclear builds even AFTER they figured everything out.
I’ve gotten atleast 10 of them in 1 day … on a level 45 alt.
…Fields of Ruin, Diedessa… etc… (while out choppin Gummos)
…which makes NO SENSE considering Anet speifically called this an Uplevel Dungeon.
Oddly enough, my 80’s are hardly getting any Keys doing Event mobs in Orr…
3. If you die, wp. Don’t lie there dead for 10 seconds screaming for a rez.
wait … wut ?
You’re not talking about dungeons here are you?
The only thing truly wrong with the path (besides being too long time-wise for the reward) is the tetris puzzle thing with the electrified floor. The hologram you have to lure to the door almost always aggros on the wrong person and it takes way longer than it should to finish simply due to bad AI.
Solution for Anet: stop making encounters that rely on the NPC ai to work, or enemy mob ai to work. since your ai sucks, it makes any ai reliant encounter inherently frustrating.
This. I. Am. SO. TIRED. Of. kittening. NPCS.
+2
Before they ever made a single Event … or Mechanic … or what have you …. that rides entirely on NPC participation; they should have invested some real Programming into giving players ways to OVERRIDE the bad AI. This goes double for Dynamic Events out in the open world where NPC’s constantly get stuck or glitched.
I’m not even going to get started on ranger pets or how badly this is holding them back from making more engaging and interactive dungeons and Events.
(edited by ilr.9675)
PSA incoming…
b/c … THE MORE YOU KNOW……..
Those aren’t elitists, those are spoiled children.
Learn the difference, it could save your dungeon raid.
I have to back this up…
The real dungeon elitists…. IE: not most of you folks who focus on Living Story, but rather the Detail obsessed guys who were grouping together for completely unrewarding holes in the ground while everyone else here was out farming Champs and collecting baubles and playing Kite-people SprintKart… Are not impressed by this path and even commented before it was released that it was too easy/gimmicky.
See those are the real elitists. And while it’s against forum policy to name names here, one perusal of the Dungeon Subforum itself makes it clear who they are. …for better or worse… And on the plus side, they all (well all but one) seem to have a good sense of humor about this stuff. And….It’s that quality of stepping back for a minute, and reassessing the situation wth a healthy dose of snark that got them where they are today …. soloing every Legendary mob in the game … finishing a 3-gold path in 10 minutes that most PuGs will take 60 minutes on.
.
People who rage quit that fast and/or just insta-kick other PuGs for superficial reasons… aren’t elitists. They’re just inexperienced PuG’ers themselves trying to get better people to carry them. They give up easily b/c there’s no consequences in this game for doing so. They know they can just “party-hop” until they get lucky and get carried. ….Hell, most real elitists don’t PuG in the first place and that should have been the first clue right there. (instead they might Solo most of the dungeon themselves and then Sell the team slots, or invite friends for the last part)
Agroing lava ele’s is not enoug, the moment lava ele sees ooze, he will attack her no matter how much agro you put on lava ele.
?_?
The Ooze has a Gender!??
I play ranger, and only ranger. I had no problems with my pet for this entire dungeon outside of the Clockheart. And I dedicated myself to pulling the holograms for that, so I wasn’t going to use my pet for it anyway (maybe a moa or a bear would have been useful in that situation for the buffs?).
Really, just learn to use F3 and F4 properly.
I play Ranger better than most people, but I can instantly tell you’re exaggerating here…
And yeah I F3/F4 constantly, just to maximize DPS/Buffs (Not b/c the pet is almost dead).Next time, record a Video for us. It’s a lot more believable.
No I’m not exaggerating here at all. I never claimed to be the greatest ranger player and I’m sure there are far more who are better and yet my pet spent half the time dead in the dungeon in every major encounter and then my second pet died and was on cooldown for most of those too. After swapping to beast master and trying again I ran into the exact same issue, though the pets survived a tad bit longer of course.
Every design so far has been punitive to pet classes due to terrible pet AI. ArenaNet may not want to say this out loud but they have already started to make changes to pets that Ancient Games had to in order to make pets viable. The prime example is not aggroing mobs when running around. Everquest had to do that for Magicians due to pets training whole dugeon levels on people due to bad pathing and finally Anet did the same thing. Can’t fix the AI then you fix the problem another way.
As mentioned above WoW ended up doing the same thing for their pet classes and fixed the AoE issue. Once Anet pulls their heads out of the sands and stops chanting “we can’t hear you everyones fine” they’ll end up having to make a similar change.
If you’re going to have pet classes in a game then you need to make sure these issues are not issues or don’t have pet classes in your game.
As to the “can’t be better at everything” people. Are you serious? This whole game is DPS and everyone is supposed to be able to DPS. You don’t defeat foes by telling them bed time stories. Rangers bring far less utility to these events then other classes so DPS is what we do and a large portion of our DPS is in the pet.
I agree with what you’re saying, but I think you might have replied to the wrong person/discussion here o_0
Infact a lot of people seem to take issue with what Serbaayuu keeps saying.
So I’d say the burden of proof is really on him…. not us.
(it’s been well established at this point that the “Pet’s AI” has ZERO self-preservation functionality and asking one class to work 5x harder than any other class to retain its “Class mechanic” is a battle that’s already been fought but lost by us Micromanagement players ….. nomatter how perfect our Micro-skills might be)
Agreed. Here’s the problem, though. The LFG tool doesn’t allow you to pick your composition. It’s completely feasible to sit there kicking, say, necromancers from your party until you get the right composition – but what does that mean for necromancers? “No LS achievement chest for you”? Is this the type of community ANet worked so hard to create?
Uhh…yeah actually that’s EXACTLY what they’re working really hard to create. Look at any of J-Sharps more longwinded schpeals on why they won’t do Skill Splits. They’re definitely working as hard as they can to put all their effort on eSports while classes like Ranger, Engi, and Necro constantly take back seats to War/Guard/Mes. ….A lot of it feels more like they’re only working on excuses, but there’ a lot of skill changes getting cranked out along side that too. So they’re obviously doing a lot of work to foster this community to specifically expect the Worst from these subpar classes joining them in Pugs.
I play Ranger, but I roll my eyes everytime I see another one join the dungeon group I’m in. There’s just almost no ways to play it better than the more stable classes and every one that joins presents a very good likelyhood that our overall DPS will tank and a 15 minute path will turn into 30 or even 45. Anet WANTS us to think this way. If they didn’t, then they’d never put so much effort into defending all of our PvE balance hinging on a completely different game mode.
(edited by ilr.9675)
dungeons fine, op is bad at game
Which is actually Anet’s fault though…
When we were in Beta…. even stuff out in the open world was actually a Challenge to fight. People had to get good. Events would actually fail when there was too many leechers. Yeah it was a steep learning curve, but it actually did something useful: It made people use timing and CC and positioning and Combos to get every little extra benefit they could. Fire Ele: compare that in beta to the ShadowBehahahaha. It killed entire Zergs until it was nerfed. And so was all the other open world mobs. What really should have been a steep learning curve, was dropped down a few stories so that what should have been the skill level people acquired by reaching 80, would have actually meant something.
As time has gone on…. There’s been this festering …. pool … of easy-mode crapola giving the fastest rewards in the game. COF / Champ Train. Even brand new players are still sucked into this Idiot-Mold the instant they roll a new human (as most do) and step out of into Zergsdale where everything is still handed to them on a silver platter. It’s “indoctrination”.
Then all this Living Story stuff hand-crafted for them, Scarlet invasion especially (but also things like Ember Farm they didn’t address nearly fast enough). Heck nearly all of the Dragon’s Generals were also a joke, especially Shatter. …Should probably even include WvW in here b/c the “Blob” still rules there.
.
Granted, some people who find this stuff easy, do so b/c they spent years in Gw1 or other more difficult/deep games like DaoC, Elderscrolls, Demonsouls, etc. But that didn’t mean new players to the franchise couldn’t eventually do the same. They’d just be about a year behind the rest of us …. like they are right now. Except they actually would have had a bridge between skill levels and carrots that were appropiate. Nope…. instead anet just threw the carrots at them too early and now there’s this huge skill gap but they all expect the same rewards that much more experienced & observant gamers put in real time for. :\
