There’s that “Guild Game play” again….

… I keep wondering what that actually means. I don’t think it’s code, but it sure feels like it everytime I see incredibly skilled smaller guilds getting pushed out by blobs of rifle/shout warriors, clone spam mesmers, MM necs, and even some LongbowBear rangers…

Why create a duplicate topic? Use the existing thread.

The other thread isn’t about Communicating and compromise.

It’s only about what was communicated. Worse than that, it was only an inevitable malignancy brought on by the main subject of this topic which has also been a recurring theme in ALL modes of the game, not just WvW. This same pattern keeps repeating itself in PvE, sPvP, and their wrongheaded attempts to balanced all 3 with only 1 set of changes.

Can we Have Heroes in GW2?

With the NPC AI they have?

Uhh… no thank you.

+1 to this.

What I’d RATHER see here…. is an “instant Swap” mechanic like some RPG’s have had in the past, where we could have instant access to our “stable of Alts” ….

Imagine a Champion for instance that, most players can’t solo. (Though you and I might have no problems with it b/c we use perma-regen & massive Endurance regen/regain buffs kind of like kitten smiter with Balt’s Aura and unlimited Energy used to have). …The average player exhausts their own lifepool, class mechanic, and “Ult” on this Champion and gets downed with no hope of Rally’ing…. Well instead of just giving up, (as long as NO OTHER PLAYERS are in proximity), they’re allowed to keep switching in alt-characters instantly.

….Eventually they might beat that Champion or difficult D.E. …or they just run out of Alts (and then maybe have reason to buy more character $lot$?). But either way, it simulates having a party of Mecenary Heroes in sort of a turn based Fashion.

.

I’ve actually done this manually in-game by moving all of my Alts together to the same Door or difficult “Boss like Foe” on some minidungeons or JP’s that grant 6-9 Empy shards (=‘s It DOES have a practical use already!) and then in a more or less Role-Playing fashion, switch between those alts for the specific tasks in that challenge that fit them best. ….It’s actually a surprisingly entertaining way to breath new life into the content if you have a diverse stable of characters and miss that sort of thing from old Console games (Seiken Densetsu for instance…. I know just uttering those 2 words can make some old schoolers drool like pavlov dogs)

.
.

EDIT: Apparently Fifty Five Smiter is now a curse word here Nice work Izzy.

There shouldn’t be any quickly respawning champs in ANY starter zones in direct proximity to the most populated cities. Anet knows they need to do a better job of distributing rewards and populations….

(this doesn’t mean Frostgorge needs a huge nerf though…. maybe just a 30 minute downtime on the respawning of all champs in the zone whenever Claw of Jormag is active so that the events aren’t in direct competition with eachother and completing the biggest one….. opens the other smaller ones back up again. Competing priorities is definitely a sticky wicket for Anet right now)

Zhaitan killed Tybalt Leftpaw. Checkmate.

The problem was Zhaitan never gloated over it. He never mocked our characters after doing it. From what we’ve seen Zhaitan didn’t even know that he killed an NPC important to our characters anymore than a hurricane would know it knocked down a house.

A good, memorable villain makes you want to hate them. The Elder Dragons are so empty of personality and motivation (from what we are shown in the game) that there’s nothing for us to hang any feeling of vengeance. You might get angry at a flood, but you can’t hate it anymore than you might hate a rock if it fell on top of Tybalt and killed him.

To be fair, somewhere I’ve read that in a certain spot somewhere after Claw Island, you can encounter some Risen saying “We’ll send you to shake hands with Tybalt!” or something similar. Same thing happens with Seiran as well in Bloodtide Coast, where a Risen Commander says “We’ll plant you in the ground next to Seiran!”

Also, the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan will mention your mentor’s death, and that they are now Risen. (Although, it was probably lying.)

There’s also one for Vigil members in the upper Ascalon area near the Searing Cauldron itself that gave my Exotic geared necro a run for her money…

…Tho I wouldn’t say these are some kind closure or that the Risen who spawn are suppose to be your “reanimated” mentors. They’re more like taunting reminders that Zhaitan is always watching you (until you kill him)

“I hope we can move forward, and continue, what has up to this point, been a great community/developer relationship.”

Why the unnecessary spin??
I think a lot of us could just shrug this off honestly…. But why the snowjob at the end?
We all know things have NOT been great with this “relationship”, otherwise this never would have reached a boiling point in the first place. We finally get an honest opinion from what one Dev really thinks, and Marketing/Skinnerbox d00de drops in here to cover it all up.

If Anet themselves can’t have an honest dialog with it’s oldest players about its game design (like it USED TO with the old State-of-the-Games), then there’s no hope that ANY STUDIO will…. Extremely diappointed by this. And by that, I don’t mean the incident, I mean the total Disconnect here. Ticked off player will eventually come back, “Losing all Hope” players won’t.

LOL

I’ll be crafting my 3rd Ascended today, …on my second character to reach 500 in crafting, and so far the only Mats I’ve bought were 2 delds.

The kicker is: I don’t farm in this game. I used to farm in Gw1 but that was because we were forced to. ….okay now maybe Anet intended for this to take people a long time, but if you actually understand just how gimmicky Anet’s ideas of “challenge” have always been, then it’s actually really easy.

That’s not to say I’m some elite player or dismissing just what a PITA this can be. Infact it’s the OPPOSITE I’m saying here: It IS a big PITA, but only for those people who work “harder” instead of smarter. Anet’s “grind”, is a gimmick, a really binary gimmick. Once you understand that, it gets a lot easier to deal with. It doesn’t become any le$$ boring, no, but you definitely waste a lot less resources once you understand it.

Sooo, stupid question/idea. Now with the LFG tool – there should be a way to communicate this better/easier, right?

Not really…. the best chances just comes from organizing a Daily Zerg together where everyone understands how to succeed at it. … and that’s a bit of gamble too because it only takes a couple complete Idiot wrong-bow rangers spamming Point Blank Shot on recharge to cause this whole thing to fail… (and then people just give up and whatever momentum was needed to keep that Daily event going, dies instantly too)

Yeah most servers can…. the problem however is a not being able to kick all the Leechers who don’t even read Map Chat. Even in orr temple and wvw zergs you get dozens of these people who do nothing but suck & die. (a lot of them are Rangers & poorly geared Warriors if you look at Anet’s own Class demo put out recently)

Once all those people stop showing up, usually a decent server will succeed… assuming all of their people went +Power gear, and enough of them are using an Ascended

I sometimes think that posters like the OP get a charge out of posting that they don’t find supposedly hard content to be hard — stroking the ego, as it were. Other times I think that those with superlative twitch reflexes will never find _*PvE*_content hard after they learn the mechanics of the game and encounter. That makes me wonder why they are looking for challenge in PvE, instead of looking where it can actually be found, in PvP.

I tried PvP here b/c in Shooters & every other genre that supports it, it’s all I ever do….
But I found it to be even more disappointing than Gw1’s PvP which I couldn’t stand in larger doses either. (it’s still all gimmicks and terrible matchups until you got into the the t100 HA/GvG ranks). But FYI…. there actually WERE some genuine PvE challenges and better AI in that game than we’re seeing here so far….

Well, even organised group doesn’t succeed 100%. Sometimes, not enough dps is not enough dps.

Not enough DPS, is because there’s too many people there using Condition builds and not nearly enough with Ascended weapons. A full PVT Armor set with melee weaps is ideal, but Valk’s and Zerks can get it done too so long as there isn’t too many scrub rangers standing there with 60% of the damage of a real class

“We were hoping originally it would take days/weeks for players to defeat Tequatl instead of 12 hours.”

My first attempt with organized group was successful.

With this, hopefully Arena Net realizes that they have to make even harder content.

HAHAHAHA…..
Well …. maybe…. if they had….. Oh I don’t know… ACTUALLY MADE IT “HARD”?
…as in require Creativity, individual skill, Diverse builds, real intelligence??

No…. why bother with any of that stuff when you can just copy-paste your DPS-Check formula loaded with insta-kill hazards into everything that’s supposed to pass as a challenge. …..It’s almost like Anet completely forgot who their core Playerbase was when they began this thing.

Their core playerbase ….. is the DPS specialist … has been ever since the first game.
To not know this, you’d had to have been completely ignoring the forums here where every single multi-page non-trolling topic about their content, turns into a solid spreadsheet of number crunchers building walls of DPS data to explain every single fight and then usually there’s a video of a Speed-clear supporting it.

Dungeon forums especially, it’s all they ever talk about. And Anet would have to be blind or just not ever reading it to……. wait what am I saying, of course they never read that place =P

.

Basically… if they want “hard challenges” for people… then they need to actually spend the money to HIRE SOME AI PROGRAMMERS. ….if you want your mobs to present a real challenge, they have to be smarter than a chalkboard
(we’ve also been saying ^this^ for a solid year now in the dungeon forum too)

The only thing in abundance in the end game areas like Cursed Shores and Malchor’s, is a bunch of Bots. I pass the same exact ones every day while looking for the prohibitively rare Ancient Sapplings. (some of them disappear after a few weeks…. others have been around a solid month or more …. probably mostly my fault for being lazy and expecting someone else to report them)

As a Ranger, (mostly melee), I’m often changing my weapons …AND traits… between EVERY big fight, and sometimes even my entire wardrobe … you basically have to when you’re not a just another worthless “Bear+LB backliner”. Thieves in PvE seem to have it even worse, I rarely see them getting “bored” with things being too easy/rote…

I don’t think It’s necessarily the skills, I think it’s just some of the classes ended up being way too linear. Mesmer & Warrior especially (though Guardian also gets boring quick just b/c it’s too easy by being too VIABLE without ever changing up its loadout ever)

What are your feels of having a Healing Role?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ilr.9675

ilr.9675

I was a Healer, and a darn good one. People who say it’s boring……RAN BORING BARS.

It’s a lot like Mesmers you see now…. compared to actual GOOD mesmers the way they used to be. And yes you had to be good on one just to not be kicked from Pugs. Now they spam clones and almost never time interrupts right….and then are praised b/c they just barely learned where to put a portal and when to drop a Timewarp. Pathetic. Most advance class my tookus.

All that said…… hell no, no required healer role. People may like the idea, they may even have some cases where it makes the class dynamics more meanginful and form tighter bonds in guilds. But at the end of the day, 90% of the player base does not ever WANT to play a full time healer. But not only that, a lot of them can’t even do it right….. (they load up a boring WOH bar or some equally unskilled PvX autopilot and still managed to fail hard anytime the frontliners needed conditions removed).

When you hear a lot of people talking about wanting healers back, it’s not typically great players actually wanting to play one full time again, it’s usually BAD players who “tanked” and felt important but never realized that they were being carried by a much better player healing them everytime they went full rekittin

But that does bring up a great question about Scarlet’s Madness I suppose…
(sorry, I’ve got no theories on that one b/c they’re not even giving us hints here)

.

…Also we’re not aware of any ancient Dragon fitting that M.O. either…. Zhaitan corrupts, festers, poisons, and claims weaker souls like Dhuum. Primordus spawns the most powerful warriors of flame that only Enchanted Dwarves with the most advanced blacksmithing in history were capable of facing in large numbers (we know which God that sounds like). Kralkatoric corrupts nature itself…. like an evil Melandru, but we never actually saw any hints of madness in its minions. Only immense “zerginess” and resilience. …Jormag is much more of an Enigma but I think it’s safe to say there’s no pattern of madness there either.

For all of this to come together, we’d need some other Dragon that we don’t currently have information on and the only ones that haven’t been covered here are the Deep Sea one, and the rumored “Jungle Dragon” that we know even less about. (the Jungle Dragon would most likely have been the source of the Mursaat’s magics)

This all being said I would love it if they brought back Razah as a villain, (ex. why did you abandon me, I followed you and you traveled to the mist and left me behind scenario. persecuted by his own kind [demons] who he betrayed, by joining us and fighting against them, and is now out for vengeance against all humans, for their ancestor’s mistakes.

Ooh, that’s a good idea…

Though to be fair… Demons didn’t come from the mists, they came from the Foundry of Failed creations and also from the “Mad Corruption” of being locked away with Abbadon all those years after his defeat.

Razah came from the Rift itself…. says so right in his bio. All we can assume is that he’s a collection of consciousness sort of like how the Sylvari came into being but he’s not actually Empathetically linked together with anyone like they all are…

The way that they (Demons) sort of resemble Dragon-Minions, actually ties in with the story of Lord Jadoth (the first margonite) and ALL cataclysms that have happened where some powerful Artifact is used to channel the energies of a sleeping Dragon that was somewhere in the proximity to where it was used. IE: Ancient Scrolls used by Kilhbron focused Zhaitan’s power via Seer style Magic/Nuke…. Charr performed the Searing using Jotun astrological magic to pull down a meteor shower of crystals bearing a striking resemblance to Branded crystals (Which Bahltek confirmed all Deity-level creatures of Tyria/Elona could imprint their influence on even though they’re way out in space). Abaddon himself is most notable initially for channeling the power of the sleeping Elder Dragons into the Bloodstone (which the Seers also created initially to COMBAT the dragons with) and then gifted it to all of Orr which lead directly to the GuildWars themselves.

…the very first few sentences you read about Tyria’s history infact in the Gw1 manual specifically mentions this as the source of power of the Guild Wars Mages and eventually what had to be thrown into the volcano right when the Gods left Orr for good. It’s almost like the Gods knew ahead of time that this cycle would just lead to more Cataclysms and more Demonic transformations of their people

This is why I did the guild missions …

It’s not quite a cape, but atleast the Banner doesn’t seem so far removed from the rest of the games “painterly” Aesthetic

Four other ones I’d really like to see them do…. and would probably be a reward for some major LS offensive/defensive against Jormag…. would be (literally) skins gifted from the Totem spirits similar (but not as fitting) to what this NPC is wearing….

We tried this in City of Heroes…. One faction always constantly feels Kittened on while the other one always seems to get a better economy and larger teams.

In WoW, Alliance was notorious for just have like 2x as many players — even if Horde claimed to have the most “competent ones” …. which when it comes to a click-fest like that, isn’t actually saying much. That’s like pitting AngryBirds players against Bejeweled players while a few Meatboy/Darksouls players watch from the sidelines.

And sometimes it’s not even the good guys who have the population/gear advantage…. look at Counterstrike & ABP reloaded. … Or Planetside too if you consider the New Congolmorate to be the “good Ol’ America boys” and the other 2 to be weird Moonspeakin’ communist scientologists…

Yeah but w/o one-shot mechanics, the encounter becomes a tank-spank

How do you balance around a non-trinty dungeon?

I for one, WELCOME mobs /w high DPS/frequency attacks that are more difficult to chain-dodge. It really incentivizes teams to bring a mix of gear or atleast a mix of builds instead of 5 berserkers (and thereby excluding anyone who doesn’t find that playstyle compelling)

Well, a Joker “clone” could still have the potential for massive impact on people.
In the DarkKnight for instance, they took him in a really dangerous direction without it being too much of a “gritty Cliche`/Trope”. IOW: the Devil really is in the Details.

That’s what appears to be missing with Scarlet here… There’s nothing in the way of meticulous early groundwork laid here to explain WHEN, HOW, WHY …. there was never any foreshadowing and there’s yet to be any foreboding either. The connections between her and her “power bases” or accomplices makes the cheesey late 70’s Legion of Doom look like band of brothers by comparison. …This I think, is where people use the word Mary Sue the most infact. Never the less… by making it clear to him that he had to watch a video of Lupicus first to atleast understand the Telegraphs, he managed to make it through the entire fight without dying.

Maybe he was just a really quick learner, I don’t know… But Arah is like that. It’s not like COF or COE where everything comes down to a perfect formula. It’s a lot of “mistakes will happen … and you’re judged by how you adapt and ovecome”.

I can’t really elaborate on it beyond that b/c I’ve seen Guild runs that were disasters, and pug runs that did a lot better… Sometimes it’s just bad party chemistry that makes them fail so ALL YOU CAN DO, if you’re new to it, is resign yourself to the fact that it might just be trial and error and require a lot of patience to get into those inner circles that do it perfectly every time (either that or you could try bribing the experts here to teach you….)

You only need 4 people to defend each set of turrets.

This sounds legit actually…. 2 Zerkers to spike down minions/vets, 1 Kiter to hold aggro on the mobs that take too long to kill, and 1 Ele or Mes to buff the other 3 and multitask between 3rd DPS’er and res/turret support

-Mobs? Killable. Only champs pose any significant threat.

The Champs are actually fairly harmless …. IE: they’re usually just a Thrall that hits 3x harder and has 30x more hitpoints. …It’s actually the Hypnoss & Abom veterans that I’ve noticed are the biggest threat and the Hypnoss especially are always neglected the hardest when they should really be the primary target even before the Aboms.

Another mistake I’m seeing here, is people actually trying to KILL champ Brutes. ….this being incredibly stupid because… #1 it’ll just respawn again the instant the first goes down… #2: The manpower of pure DPS’ers required to kill them quickly, is completely disproportionate to the 1 single mostly useless survival “Kiter” who could easily keep up to THREE brutes chasing him in a circle for more than 15 minutes without even breaking a sweat.

But unfortunately, trying to explain this to the masses is like talking to a wall
People will spam skills and let the “auto-targeting” do the deciding FOR THEM.
(that “feature” really should have been OFF by default… so people would have to learn use their brains to play the game properly right from the beginning)

A minority crying and moaning about a fight being challenging…..

if only it WAS a challenging fight. It’s not though.

It’s a broken DPS check masquerading as “group coordination required”

Eh, I’ll pass on the mini given that I find them useless.

I loved minis in Gw1….

(I just don’t care for them here, b/c they have yet to give us any that I find compelling) :p

Don’t forget Galrath.

…never forget Galrath.

Oh I KNOW, but I don’t want to jump the gun on him until we find out what’s going on with this Floating Spire outside Kessex Hills…
