I may finally be able to do the dungeons of my personal story without having to use a third party tool.

I’m not so sure about that one… Yeah okay maybe you’ll find some people but you may end up wishihing you’d just tried it solo first. … I PuG’d a few story modes but immediately quit after realizing I was carrying the entire “team”. :\

Empyreal Fragments are absurd

Open World doesn’t have problems with Dragonite.

Dungeon Runners don’t have problems with Empyrial Fragments.

WvW seems to be happy that they got anything, despite that it’s a grind out there too.

No one has problems with Bloodstone Dust.

The XP needed from 450 – 500 crafting is the main problem. Though the amount of Iron and mid-level Woods required for the Ingots & Spiritwood are also unreasonably excessive.

Go ahead… do the math on them… I’ll wait.

I think i’ve missed one and that was right at the beginning of these constant temporary festival updates… Infact maybe Southsun was still going on? I dunno, I wasn’t even doing that stuff … I think I was out gathering herbs instead the whole night and was 4/5 because the last piece of low hanging fruit would have been “4 Kryta Events” and everyone knows there’s no worthwhile herbs growing in kyrta zones. (except Corriander but I didn’t know at the time that Bloodtide was part of it).

It’s only worth deleting if you’re the kind of person who runs around in a Champ circuit all day long still…. Not all of us find that entertaining, or even that rewarding anymore. For everyone else, converting is probably a good idea b/c it still counts as 450+ crafting XP (even if it’s a very very small amount that doesn’t adhere to their “flat leveling curve” promise).

I don’t get all the people who cry nerf at this spirit business. It’s only a nerf if you were able to keep your spirits alive for their full duration, and even then, you’re looking at 13 seconds of downtime when they die. That’s not as bad as people claim.

It’s just one more thing on a huge pile of things that never should have been nerfed because they were just fine in PvE & WVW where the vast majority of not just players in general reside… but where most of their Microtransaction patrons reside as well.

I’d cite Elite Illusionists as a design that does a good job of applying constant pressure to players who think Gear should only come in 1 flavor simply b/c they can dodge every normal telegraph from the “Big Bosses”. Granted they probably put out a bit too much DPS themselves to people who are already tussling with mages and a dozen eagles but the potential is there for Anet to learn something from them. Lyssa’s bloodstone priest in P4 is also another one that shakes up the Modus Operandi atleast a little bit.

Dunno if you’ve been watching the TP, but completed exo Inscriptions are selling for 2x the price of completed Exotic weapons simply b/c everyone is in such a hurry to level crafting to 500 (it’s actually something I had been campaigning for since last year because it was also one of the primary salvage components in Gw1)

Better solution: Why hasn’t anyone simply tried to talk to them?

The ONE REASON they attack humans in the first place is because they are cursed to see them as Charr. However during AC P3 we could temporarily transform into ghosts and talk to them…

So why hasn’t the dang idea EVER occured into anyone’s head simply to talk to them and explain the situation?

This is pretty much what I was saying. And on the flip side, Even if the FoeFire curse was lifted, there’d still be some outright poltergeists like Kendrick who were hotheads even in Gw1 and have a Cyclops / Jean Grey situation going from their temple BFBF getting Seared by misguided Charr. Those ones won’t just welcome Jennah or whoever else holds a flaming sword with open arms.

Colin’s place often seems sadly relegated to a Happy Glad Hands figure-head for their Marketing purposes. I don’t think it’s fair to attack him just b/c he’s the one who’s brave enough (and usually charismatic enough too) to stand in front of an Angry mob and tell them that the conditions on the ground have changed. Most multi-billion dollar Corporations don’t even have specialists who can do that to a satisfactory degree.

One, or 2 names I never hear thrown about here though, is the 2 Chris’s …. Chris Lye … and to a lesser extent, (as in maybe every now and then but still rarely) Chris Whiteside. …and maybe they’re just taking marching orders from NCsoft? Who knows. I don’t know either b/c I don’t have a full opinion on this. Mainly b/c Powercreep was a CONSTANT thing in the first game and the once epic content like Fissure of Woe, the Deep, and Sorrow’s eventually got trivialized by it.

But on some tokens… that became a good thing once we were no longer able to field an 8-man team of all veteran players to complete the content. IoW: it wouldn’t have been accessible to us at all in the later stages of the game’s life while we still needed those zones completed for Hall of Monuments.

So yeah… I think there’s some promises they absolutely CAN be held to. Like flat leveling curves for example. But Powercreep?? Umm… I dunno. Saying no powercreep ever after this point, kinda goes against the entirety of all human evolution. …doesn’ it? Why should I hold them to some kind of promise on that??

Not even Dragons seem to have the power to prevent Ghosts from haunting an area where their traumatic deaths may have occurred. …this seems to tie in with the Mists and ‘the Rift’ itself. There’s a chance we might get more answers on it if the Thaumaneuva Reactor actually gets some rich back story to it, but I wouldn’t hold your your breath on that. The Living Story team seems more interested in hawking cash shop items than selling us reasonable explanations and plot.

So you’re okay with the WvW game being about gear and stat advantages, rather than skill or fun? Good to know that I will be at a continual disadvantage in WvW because I refuse to grind for gear. I specifically came to this game to avoid gear grinds.

…this Hyperbole assumes that there’s not an even larger advantage in sheer numbers regardless of tactics, coordination, and more importantly: skill.

Raw Skill, either inherent, or practiced, is the reason there’s a competition even in PvE to see who can solo a Giganticus Lupicus the fastest and gear is one of the LAST deciding factors there. How fast was your time? How many Towers do you solo a day? If it’s not in the top then maybe you need to preface your comments on skill vs. gear with some kind of disclaimer first just so we’re more clear on what specific area you feel gear would make a bigger difference than sheer Attendance? It’s important because you’re comparing apples and oranges hence the qualifiers I used above that actually apply damage to whatever is in the AOE. ….that’s right, I’m using the 5-target cap mechanic against your example… In other words: why are you arguing GEAR, when sheer numbers gives ya more armor THAN ARMOR & SKILL GIVES?

On defense: 1 shard per attacker in the area. And you only qualify for event involvement if you actually got attacked / took damage.

Meanwhile Anet needs to stop pretending like Dragon Ore & Emp shards are some kind of big deal that can’t just be handed out for defending or random ganking. That is a totally illogical double standard when you look at how fast we can (and I do!) get them in PvE just for newbie Jumppuzzles in Caledon, or tagging a couple random mobs at a Temple Zerg, or from spending 7 minutes in a fake dungeon (COF) that’s so easy it makes most Story dungeons look like COE by comparison.

Roaming or being one of those smaller guilds off doing Spec Ops in one of your enemy’s home BL’s is a lot harder and often wrought with frustration and disappointment (not to mention useless outmanned mechanic that apparently doesn’t even increase these T7 drops). ….I don’t feel the least bit compelled to WvW with any frequency until the rest of the company takes a serious look at this and admits they’ve got a lot of improvement still to make on Effort Vs Reward. … this also applies to resource nodes though, they should have gotten increased & improved when the Worldbuilding team did this last pass on putting Conquest mode in WvW

I’ve only been kicked into Overflow once while trying to do the temple runs, but it was entirely my fault. I tried jumping in 10 minutes after the start…I went ahead and moved onto the next zone and waited, but I hope I didn’t kick someone else that called it their Home-server into Overflow for a guest to take their place.

I’ve been kicked to overflow half a dozen times now when I’m usually one of the first into that zone b/c I’m one of the pre-event commanders. (but I disband the tag once the main event starts going just to reduce confusion on the minimap… wish more people would follow that example instead of AFK’ing @ other camps with tags on).

I got kicked to overflow and missed Eye twice now
… which is the event that I personally set up everyday start to finish.

I don’t really blame the players who feel they have to guest though, I blame Anet for not instituting an “Underflow” system for less populated zones. (IE: bring the under populated zones of multiple servers together to behave more like merged Districts used to in Gw1) … maybe if they did that, these guesters wouldn’t feel like they have to guest to other servers just to find enough people to attempt their daily Dragonite <GET>

3. Griffonrook Run (End Chest with bomb doesn’t award Empyreal Fragments)

That’s a bonus chest – after dropping bomb on that, run back up the stairs to that high pillar in the center of the valley and there’s a chest there. That one has your Empyreal Fragments.

It’s really a bit of a philosophical / skill-balance debate here … some players, or just some classes in general will have a much easier time completing that bomb run while others will have the absolute most frustrating time simply because dodging doesn’t always prevent the griffons from destroying the bomb.

It’s a subject best left out of the bug thread.

I got 600 emp shards in the first 6 days … mostly by running alts through the same JP’s “as a group” … so for me it’s not any different from any other grind I used to do in Gw1 and I even made a little role-playing minigame out of it since all of my alts do very different Roles.

The only fix I think we need here is not to Dungeons or even JP’s…

…okay maybe a little tiny tweak to “Minidugeons” that are only giving 2-4 shards ea….

But the only fix we really need here is SMARTER Rewards in WvW.

<wvw rant incoming>

Devon repeatedly told everyone leading up to this update that WvW would be seeing more rewards, but all it got was some little-brother Meee-Too treatment and everyone still got the short end of the stick (unless they’re power build Roaming Thieves who kill camp claim NPC in 5 seconds…. Thieves in general need a total WvW & PvE exclusive split/rebalance …. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS).

The final insult?? …No Shards in the WvW jump puzzles.

I’m so glad I’m not a WvW’er, I’d be really really depressed about my future right now:

  • No intentions whatsoever to address Mindless zerging … yeah Anet wants WvW to be about numbers and they just asserted that again this week, but they’re not making any effort to scale coordination & skill versus those raw numbers.
  • a ton of youtube streams that just focus on “WXP” Perks… what is this, COD??
  • Instead of making a game mode that everyone loved (CTF) Hacker-Proof, they just add more CONQUEST mode instead which isn’t popular and never will be if you look at the history of their attempt at Esports.
  • severe lack of both diversity and quantity in Gathering Nodes in borderlands … especially high demand Herbs(chilis, rosemary, dills, etc) as well as platinum/iron and mid-tier woods. “Holding terrain” would be a lot more worthwhile if there was actually some real clusters of resources on it worth holding.
  • no emphasis on DEFENDING ANYTHING … the only reason anyone defends anything is kitten-block any attacking force so they get demoralized and leave which just makes for another empty B.L.

The very least they could have done here was give everyone 50 dragon ore per SM cap, and 30 per Keep cap. …then instead of rewarding people empys for flipping Camps & Towers… give the highest quantity of Empy shards for HOLDING THOSE camps and towers by awarding 1 empy for every single Foe who attacked anyone or anything at that location. ….there ya go, instant thinning of the Zergs. Everyone spreads out, more people in the BL’s, and a very easy to make Equation for doling out a currently very grindy resource.

How GW1 Devs would've designed end-game gear

Stats don’t matter and we’d all be a lot better off if people stopped obsessing over them so much. Especially those people who Gear-Check for dungeons. But that will only work when —> everyone stops <-- obsessing. So long as even a small portion obsesses, it sets precedent for Exclusion, and exclusion gets duplicated until it’s the Meta.

The real problem with this game’s content is not some grind, it’s the uninspiring and non-innovative fights that can be rushed through with Berserker Melee stacking and rote memory of no more than 2 “instant kill” must-dodge attacks. The AI doesn’t scale, infact the AI will often forego it’s most difficult to avoid attacks nomatter how quickly its dying simply b/c everyone stayed in Melee range or stopped moving. (spider queen, lupi, subject Alpha, even some Priests/World bosses can be face-rolled this way).

It’s a 2-way street, obsessing over gear is obsessing over gear whether you’re a proponent of B.I.S. or against the Stat grind. The real grind begins everytime we face yet another Champion who reacts, moves, and scales exactly the same as the last 100 champs we beat every single time we faced them over and over again. Real end game begins with replayable content that’s actually Replayable even without a Carrot

Technically…. it’s much better simply b/c you can “mill” Obsidians into T6 mats.

And we need T6’s more than ever now simply b/c you sometimes have to Salvage 20-30 exotics just to get 10 dark matters. (really really awful RNG here)…. Or you have to use nothing but BL kits b/c anyone who tells you mystic kits get the same results, is ignoring the live Drop Data.

That still doesn’t excuse the fact that the actual Well-Casting animation is the same exact 1/4 second animation they use for the Fear. Something THAT MASSIVE and damaging to every NPC in range, should take atleast 1.5 seconds to cast and be completely interruptable. ….Same goes for those stupid Acolyte Veterans… I’ve interrupted them right at the beginning of their summoning animation and sent them flying backwards only to see 4-5 plague carriers spawn where they were standing almost a whole second later.

THOSE ARE TRULY A BROKEN MECHANICS. Skill strength / damage is all a matter of positioning in this game and we DO have some control over how soon the pact runs ahead directly into these wells. But not having interrupts function properly, or not given even a full second to interrupt, is a real deal breaker and a broken promise too.

This

Anyone who tells you go all Zerker on ranger…. is ignoring the fact that Pets don’t benefit from gear. Pets benefit from Attrition. And the best way to get attrition is to find stuff closer to the old BM fotm’s & abuse the heck out of regeneration sources… or atleast go Valk’s and cross your fingers for good RNG. (atleast that’s not as boring as PVT… and it’s actually your best possible support set in dungeon PUGs). …Just don’t take too far though. No one wants a Knights/Sent ranger in their speed run, K? (too much toughness means you steal aggro off the REAL Melees and then stuff scatters which is BAD).

But yeah… the only excuse for Zerkers is if you do nothing but Zerg all day long.
If you do, more power to ya I guess but just remember: You could run NAKED in a zerg and still perform exactly the same as if you had all Ascended Gear & a Legendary. :p

.

@ the OP: It doesn’t matter what you do right now. So just focus on enjoying the ride to 80 or whatever. If you try to take the class too seriously with the lousy tools provided by it, you’ll only be setting yourself up for disappointment. IE: You could literally autoattack with LB & Bear and you’d still level about the same pace (maybe a tad slower). No the real test begins when you get your first set of all rare gear and enough trait points to find out if you can eventually adapt to using the 1H sword without dying constantly or throwing yourself off cliffs. Once you figure that out, which should take a month or so depending on how well you can break old habits from most RPG’s…. then you can start putting everything else together and get Combos and interrupts and evading down pat so that you’re actually fighting stuff face to face instead of circle-flanking all day for 1/2 the total DPS… you can even run spirits (but again: takes a lot of practice/timing)

The price drop right now though is not so much because of Legendary Mats themselves (except for Soft & Ancient Wood… that ones a bit of an outlier but it doesn’t affect Swords/Greatsword nearly as much as it affects ascended bows). …I attribute it a lot more to the cost of maxing 500 crafting.

And that’s not to say that it costs too much no… It’s obvious from the design that we were supposed to take a good month to hit 500 in crafting on even 2 disciplines at the same time but you’ve already got some people hitting 500 on all 3 of them in the same week. Temple of Balthazar event impossible

ilr.9675

Whether it’s possible or not, is entirely out of your personal hands.

If you knew exactly what to do right, it could still be impossible for your server so long as even 1 single person is just indiscriminately Nuking the spot that the Vet Subjugators spawn at & then gets the Vet’s aggro. ….I don’t wanna use the G-word here, b/c that might only lead to more people doing exactly that… But this is an encounter that runs completely backwards to the way that all other encounters in the game are won by zergs. To win, you have to ask every single person who shows up to do the following:

  • Don’t use Speed Buffs/Walls anywhere near the Pact
  • DONT NUKE all the things, (except Nobles… YES nuke those ASAP)
  • keeping weaker risen alive longer so the Pact doesn’t rush ahead into the wells
  • know exactly where the Sub-Vets spawn and stand there.
  • equipping melee Weapons only: http://youtu.be/c0rUMPDWm7k
  • If the Subjugator is stuck in its long LifeTap animation, DON’T INTERRUPT IT
  • use as much single target Crowd Control as possible
  • use only single target attacks if DPS’ing the other mobs from Range
  • stand directly inside the Sub-Vet’s melee range if using a ranged weapon in general
  • avoid using too much Knockbacks unless the Vet is pinned against a Wall

Maybe not everyone has to do this, but everyone who is on the leading edge of the escort & has a chance to grab the aggro of the Vets does. Also anyone who’s standing in the middle of the Pact too. And then also consider that probably half of the people showing up, turned Map Chat off a while ago b/c Lion’s Arch is a horrible horrible place to stand for more than a couple minutes with it enabled. So they won’t even hear the commander’s orders on what to do and what not to do.

as for the exact spawn locations, I’ll see if I can squeeze some sort of image somewhere into the Wiki article on it: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Temple_of_Balthazar ….which is almost completely out of date currently except for the latest blurb added by an IP…

I agree that people should not do things that aren’t fun. But ANet is not trying to reward people for doing stuff they like. As usual there are a couple of options for getting stuff, the quick way (dungeons and temples) and the SLOOWWWWW way (jumping puzzles and world bosses). (Don’t mention WvW the rewards there are a joke).

All of it would be fine in small doses, but man, you have to do a lot of temples to get the necessary dragonite. None of it is fun, so I’m not doing it.

I actually like Temples and Dungeons so I’ve already got the 500 ea of those 2 mats.
But I agree completely with the small doses prequalifier… Trying to do all of this stuff at once has worn me out. I’m just a few dark matter & soft wood planks short of crafting that first Ascended, but I’m already too worn out to cross that finish line.

it was said by a dev that quality of salvage kit didnt affect on getting essences of luck form blues/greens. Is Dark matter affected by salvage kit quality?

ummm …so far the ONLY dark matters I’ve gotten, are from a BL kit…
And I don’t have the RL money to buy 10 more of those kits to get the DM’s I’ll need from the 200+ exotics I’ll need to salvage for however many Ascended’s I’ll have every other crafting material for ready to go on (not today some time later this year & next).

….And the other issue is: the Daily rewards seems to have changed also… giving a single “who cares!!!” essence of luck instead of random BL item we used to sometimes get…. (so where am I to get BL kits from Now???)

This wouldn’t happen if there was a public test realm (as well as it would solve other issues).

Just sayin’…

I’m still pretty skeptical on how much of this is actually insider, and how much was just lucky speculating. But I agree 100% with ^ the ^ above ^ statement. Sunlight is always the best disinfectant

Isaiah Cartwright and Linsey Murdock put a lot of work into this and they are the ones that deserve your praise.

I’m happy that you are liking the new content!

That’s cool…

But uhh… could you get with Linsey then and discuss the possibility of a roll back on Soft Wood Plank requirements please?? Remember how they used to only require Two or Three …?… Yeah we all remember there was a huge glut there. But with them popping over 2 silv per log now, It’s probably safe to say that glut is loooong gone :p

Ranger on SOTG ???

We still have too much attention on Ranger in sPvP thank you very much.

Until SOTG gets a little “WvW/PvE Corner” segment, I’d prefer they just stayed as quiet as possible and maybe then every single patch wouldn’t be another ranger nerf

Not awful patch after all? Yay or nay?

And yes, you should technically never need to res another because everyone, in an ideal world, would never go down. But we all know that isn’t the case. Especially outside of guild groups. I’ve noticed that a good ranger, though, rarely ever goes down. And we’re nimble enough to help res others almost regardless of where they fall. And dropping a Healing Spring on them while ressing does improve our survivability while doing so.

Okay yeah that much I will agree with. … I wouldn’t be holding and even outright Tanking the Aggro of 30+ shades entirely by myself in the Grenth Temple if it wasn’t true. (some days I go down faster than others but that’s usually b/c some fool who had priest aggro ran back to me causing a non-rendering red circle of launching you up into the ceiling so you die of FALL DAMAGE always comes as quite the surprise and I’d like the meet the man who can avoid that little snafu).

But I honestly can’t count on more than 1 hand the people I’ve seen in-game who play ranger that well. The ones I’ve seen in-game, were basically all from the forums already and part of this same chorus of “Well ranger can be really good in the right hands”. Of course it can. But many other classes are even BETTER in those same hands. Even Necromancer which we know for a fact was hilariously overpowered for 1 update in sPvP just b/c it gave the out-of-the-box thinkers a way to dominate on it without the necessary gestation time for a counter-meta to develop.

You can never, ever, ever get away from this “In the same hands” argument.
All of us who do well on Ranger, do so explicitly because we are technically adept meaning that we are better at understanding & then fighting broken controls, AI/UI and broken mechanics than we are at actually fighting the more mainstream MMO definitions of challenging fights.

Heal as One, does anyone use this?

in Ranger

If I recall…. Gw1’s Heal as One actually started off pretty bad.

It didn’t actually get better until some of us on the Wiki were persistent enough to get Linsey’s attention on the issues of Pet balance in Gw1. I think if credit goes to Anyone, on that small victory, it was Auron who was bacially already “Gw1 Famous”. I wonder whatever happened to him? They should have hired him to fix this game

….Now days that’s impossible. #1, Linsey’s not even in the balancing oversight area anymore, #2, she’s obviously in charge of something much more demmanding that MOST people seem a lot more obsessed with and seem to think is the most important entire purpose of the whole game: Ascended’s and Legendary gear which ironically enough, runs completely counter to the existence of our Pet mechanics simply b/c they do not benefit in any way from us having better Gear or “swappable stat Legendaries”…

So yeah…. This isn’t Gw1 so we’re pretty much hopeless here on this issue

while spending 2 hours doing nothing but mining iron and empyreals tonight … that feel of massive grind hit me pretty hard. Hope it goes away… but when I look at the amounts need just for … say Deld & Spiritwood … I realy have to ask…. WHY? WHY so many of these lower level mats needed? That’s not gonna get people to play together. Not if they’re spending all their time chasing this junk which pretty much requires you to solo in a really super “FOREVER ALONE” fashion…

It’s really doing the opposite of what it should have done. Just feels like a kneejerk reactions to their huge mistakes on allowing inflation to get so bad in the first place

…Rares seem to be popping more in junk chests, which means more Ectos overall.
So the 10 clover recipe is the best bet IMO since it’s mostly Skillpoints & Karma.

I only see rangers doing that when they’re not in Melee where they should be and the rest of the team …isn’t good. The fight would be over already and no one would be downed in the first place if everyone is dodging and melee’ing correctly. We have lots of evades, they just require timing.

This is a bit different in level 80 Open World encounters of course. But being the timid backliner who thinks they’re keeping everyone else up…. just doesn’t seem factual to me. It seems like an excuse actually.
