Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
Why should we have to compromise on this? Why can’t we just have something good that most everyone likes for once?
Because getting more people interested in WvW is good for everyone?
There will always be people that don’t like stuff. No matter how they do it.
And lets be honest, EotM already had quite a bit of PvE elements in it (based on the beta) and adding a few extra temporary things to give the map a story and continuing the story of the world itself isn’t really much of an issue.
She is not “behind it”. She is invading the Mists (which we have known for quite some time that she were trying to do) and we need to stop her.
I for one love the fact that they actually give us a reason for a new map suddenly appearing rather than just logging in one day and all of a sudden there is a completely new land available.
Its is not really that sudden.
We have known since last year that she is looking towards the Mists.
Well, to be fair they are attacking the new map, not the “real” WvW maps, and I would say that is a rather fair compromise.
Edge of the Mists have after all always been talked about as having quite a bit of PvE in it.
do you know that you will have to face other players from other servers and not only scarlet’s minion?
I am fully aware of that yes (unless they release it as a PvE version at first).
And just to be clear I am mainly a WvW-player.
even worse is that the pick is account bound. Thus, not only does it give mroe loot, but its more alt friendly than older picks. Thanks for making me loose gem store trust in you Anet
You are aware that the old picks have been account-bound (or able to change to account-bound by talking to an NPC) for months, right?
Edge of the Mists coming next week! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
With Scarlet’s bull kitten inside! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!seriously… WTF?
they didn’t noticed that nobody cares about energy probes in wvwvw like the other temporary pve things added before?
Some people (me included) prefer to have a reason for opening up a new map.
Opening it up in order to combat Scarlet for a few weeks is a rather good solution for that.
One solution they could provide is to start selling temporary picks with the same ability in-game. That would make this whole situation better and would mean these picks won’t offer anything not available in the game.
And again just another patch that fits only one specific playstyle. I really wish they would return to give us more mixed content for all playstyles like Queens Jubilee and Bazaar.
Ah, you mean those two patches that gave the grand total of 2 things (Skyhammer for first one, a new WXP line for the second) for sPvP and WvW players?
The vast majority of updates caters to the PvE player-base, but for some reason it is a kitten catastrophe if they decided to give an update catered to another part of the game.
Also keep in mind that Edge of the Mists is rather PvE heavy from what I have seen, and it will include rather major PvE things with the update (invading Aetherblades and such).
So people get used to it cough accountbound dyes cough
You mean the change made quite some time before release, and with the alternative being a rather grindy mess that most people probably would have hated even more than the current system?
Exactly like I thought. Patch 1 2 and 3 will, despite being called “big patches”, still be regular LS patches maybe even smaller considering that they don’t add any features.
What a shame :/
How is adding a whole new map small?
A whole new map full with new features no less.
And what about the first patch that added two world bosses, both with completely new mechanics?
Not a bug as they are advertising it on their own website. Here is how they describe it: “A recent breakthrough in mining technology has let us make a new infinite mining pick. This self-repairing pick has a chance to add a Watchwork Sprocket to the rewards when used to mine ore veins!”
Ah, I had not seen that.
Since that is the case, I would say this is definitely crossing the line.
Well like I said earlier they are trying to test how far they can get. People complained about the first unlimited pick aswell but later people didn’t care anymore and we got more of them + they got more expensive. Now they are trying to give people another incentive to buy them.
The increase in cost is because they changed them from Soulbound to Account bound though.
They hired a former Nexon ‘expert’ for monetization, afaik. Doesn’t this say everything?
They did hire say expert several MONTHS BEFORE the release of the game though. So it is not something new. And if she did all this, one would wonder why she waited over a year with it.
Well you supported the whole “Pay 2 Convinience” thing with the purchase of the unlimited tools and now this is what you get.
There is a rather major difference between paying for convinience and paying for advantages though.
I for one will NOT buy this new set if they don’t fix/remove this thing even though I have bought multiple sets of the earlier ones.
Indeed, it does feel a bit bad.
I am wondering if it is intended though, seeing as there is no information at all about it in-game as far as I have seen (I haven’t bought it, so might be visible on the item itself, but the store says nothing about it), which makes me think that it might actually be a bug.
What concerns me most is that there will be Aethersh…blade on the map. Why can’t we simply have a wvw without pointless AI mobs running around?
EotM have always been talked about as a map with quite a bit of PvE though.
And I would also assume that the Aetherblade invasion is temporary.
So.. she is actually invading the Mists with next weeks update. Going to be interesting to see why she wants a foothold there.
You can enter Edge of the Mists even without full main-maps. It will always exist not just when other maps are full, and I would assume that real WvW:ers would still focus on the “real” maps.
Seems like information about the coming update have started to turn up. And the main thing seems to be Edge of the Mists (which will be invaded by Aetherblades).

Much earlier than I though, but very nice nonetheless.
Seriously. I’m to the point where I hate essences of luck. They don’ t seem to have as amazing an effect I was lead to believe they do(300 and never get anything worth mentioning), and I hate clicking through the stacks.
Get an artificer to lvl 100 and you can combine them
Impossible? How so? I recall that there was some discussion in the Living World CDI about in-game polls similar to what was in place during the beta. This would be a rather easy way to get these metrics. When people on the forums give feedback stating that they don’t like Living Story, they are often shouted down by people who are quick to remind them that forum posters are a minority of a game’s player base. So why not let the entire player base speak, then?
Because it would be a biased result.
Either you would be able to skip the polls, and thus people not everyone would post opinions and thus make it useless. Or you would be forced to do them, which would annoy people who might then give worse grade than they actually want just for being annoyed and thus making it rather useless as well.
Everything that is built on direct player input will always be biased one way or another.
Wouldn’t you feel cheated if your 3 month old phone (spanking new state of the art model too) got replaced with an improved model for the SAME price ?
Not really.
That is after all how the world works.
New and better stuff gets released all the time.
And for the record I do have two full sets of the first ones released (Molten, Consortium, Chop-It-All).
I don’t know if its a bad precedent, it depends if they allow for refund for the old items or not.
Why would they though?
If I buy the same car next year that you bought today I might very well get something extra with said car.
That said, I do wonder why they suddenly decided to add this, especially since it says nothing about it in the description, which makes me wonder if it is a bug.
I just wish we could get some metrics on how many people are actually enjoying ( not just playing, but actually enjoying) Living Story.
I don’t know.
Personally I don’t play stuff I don’t enjoy, and I was under the impression that it was a rather common line of thinking, but maybe I was wrong.
Getting metrics on how many people enjoy content would be rather impossible, seeing as it would always be a biased result (while metrics show an unbiased, absolute, result).
If you think people are actually enjoying open raid content, take ALL the rewards away from all of them.
See how many people do it for enjoyment then.
Well seeing how people always whine about how bad rewards for everything in the game is and yet they keep doing stuff, I would assume that rewards is not the only reason for them to do stuff.
You have so much faith.
So, where are the things that suggest that they will?
As far as I know there hasn’t been a single statement or even hint that former achievement rewards will be buyable in the gemstore, so feel free to link it, since you seem to have more information than the rest of us
And now she’s even more insufferable.
Quite possible, but at least she gets more than “bewbs”.
I remember those days. And in those days, games were packed with manuals that explained how to play it.
Basic tips how to play yes, but they didn’t explain every single encounter. The explained how to move more or less, and the rest you had to figure out yourself.
People today seems to want to be given exact instructions how to do something which makes me question why they play games at all rather than just watch a movie or letting someone else play.
The home instance in the Black Citadel have it together with all the other nodes directly to the right from the entrance.
I have never really understood “issues” like these.
I have yet to use dulfy or other sites a single time, and yet I have completed the meta events for every single Living Story, so clearly it is fully possible to do so.
The main issue is that todays gamers seems to be under the illusion that they should guided through every single step of the way rather than figure it out themselves.
Back in the days before the internet (or at least before it was not widespread) people still managed to complete games (which were often much harder than todays games for that matter) without having someone tell them exactly what to do.
I’m going to puke.
And yet here you still are, bumping up the thread ^^
They added the cash shop not long before they stopped updating it. Resources moved to GW2 and the newly added cash shop helped to make sure there wouldn’t be a problem with funds.
Hm?
Several of the biggest updates for GW1 (not counting new campaigns/expansion) were released long after the cash shop was released.
The cash shop was released in 2006 the FIRST part of GW: Beyond was released in-game in 2010, and I don’t know about you, but several YEARS is not something I consider “not long before” especially not since that is basically half the time the game has been live.
Another obvious question that rises is, why not do it less conspicuous? Why not build the Tower of Nightmares somewhere remote, rather than right next to Divinity’s Reach and Lion’s Arch? Unless she wanted it destroyed.
Because she wanted to maximize its effect?
If you want to target a city you don’t nuke a forest 500 km away from said city.
No, you don’t ever see queues to enter zones in contemporary games. Can you name a major title that uses this mechanism to handle instanced zones in the open world? Contemporary games do you instanced zones, but if they are well implemented, you would never know you are in one.
But, I would like to know the games you are referring to so I can make sure to avoid them.
Not specifically instanced zones, but rather the game itself.
If the server is full, you are unable to even log in and play and are forced to stay in a queue which can last for hours.
Just to clarify, when I purchased my dye kit, nowhere did it say I’m paying for a chance of a certain dye. I purchased thinking I was getting a flame dye, like it said I would. Anet needs to give a clear description on it’s dyes, I didn’t know it was rng, and it didn’t state it was rng so yes it is a con
This is what the dyes say:
Contains one random flame-themed armor dye from a pool of 25 colors, including six exclusive new colors.
Contains one random frost-themed armor dye from a pool of 25 colors, including six exclusive new colors.
Contains one random armor dye from a pool of 25 colors that includes six new, exclusive colors
Contains one random armor dye from a pool of 25 colors that includes six new, exclusive colors
I would say it is extremely clear that there is a CHANCE to get a exclusive dye.
They even tell you the chance (6 of 25).
And how many are huge numbers?
50?
150?
300?
Unless every single player have the exact same computer setup there will always be issues. (unless the game is offline and text-based).
I don’t think the issue is either servers or programming, I simply think it is due to the amount of information that needs to be calculated for every single entity at all times, and thus no matter how good servers they buy (for all we know they already have the best ones available, which would seem rather likely seeing how little downtime we have) there will still be issues with too many people running around.
Right. You can go to Queendale for Behemoth and it’s a toss up whether you can participate. The timer indicates the event is happening on the server you are on, but there is no actual event in progress where you are. Problems with overflows are not limited to any one event. They are an issue wherever there are large scale events of the kind the game developer creates.
Oh, so the issue is basically that you can’t use a 3rd party site and decide based on that what to do?
Without overflows the issue would be even bigger, since that might make it impossible to even get into the game at all.
With overflows at least you can still play and hope that the event comes up.
All the new (and updated) events does also start on overflows that are created 10 minutes within the start of the event in question, which would lessen the “issue” even more. And one can assume that they will do the same with coming bosses and updates.
I believe that the Hero Screen does not take the WvW bonuses into account.
Did you read the OP at all before posting. You can certainly play in an overflow. But, if your intention was to participate in an event, you are out of luck. WoW has instanced zones and you are never aware that you are in an instanced zone. No developer would design a scenario where users are aware they are in differing zones.
Oh, but the only thing that is (currently) not completed in overflow is the Wurm, every other thing have been repeatedly completed in overflows, and the Wurm most likely will be soon as well, so I really don’t see the issue.
I never said I wanted to take the whole overflow out of the game. I said I wanted a bigger max player cap per map. This would make the whole fun more fun for everyone.
And yet people are already complaining about lag and such on with the current limits.
Increasing said limit would just make it worse.
And I am rather sure that if 150 people were in the same place (or small area at least) it would lag quite much in most games.
I have personally only seen in in LotRO but that was more or less completely unplayable with those numbers.
An MMO is not a restaurant. Here, there is a reasonable expectation that when you log in you will be able to play. And, in every other MMO I play that is the case.
Are you somehow unable to play in an overflow?
I was under the impression that overflows were identical to regular maps.
Funny how you claim that “in every other MMO I play that is the case.” seeing as most (if not all?) other MMOs don’t allow you to play at all if the map/server is full and instead put you in a queue rather than overflow.
I agree,I never saw “overflow” in any game and here is vary annoying
True, in those games we saw queues instead, which made it impossible to play at all.
Personally I prefer the overflow version.
Uhm… the same way they developed Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North, and Guild Wars 2?
That would of course work.
If we disregard all the extra costs that are present now that weren’t with GW1.
Such as several hundred more employees and totally different server structure.
It is quite unlikely that they will sell Achievement Based rewards in the gem-store.
The only way ArenaNet will ever get another penny from me is to release an expansion pack. I will NEVER spend any real cash in the gem store. I am against cash shops.
And how would you suggest them getting the money to develop said expansion without the cash shop?
The main problem is most likely the fact that it would be way to easy to abuse the system and simply stand around trading the points to gain high amounts of WXP with little to no risk.
We saw this back during Season 1, where you needed a certain amount of ruins captured, people from two or three servers just stood there, taking it over and over without attacking each other.
That would of course depend.
If all the crowded ones are full, you would end up in a less crowded one, correct?
That also seem to be the case at least for me.
If I leave a crowded overflow, I tend to join a much less crowded one when reentering.
I was under the impression that you were added to the first non-full overflow, and then new ones were created when that one got full and so on.
Sorry if I seem a bit daft, but, I still don’t get what you’re referring to. There is so much more to GW1 than the instanced parts. I STILL PLAY GW1 albeit not nearly as often as I once did.
The thing being discussed is that it worked in GW1 and thus it should work here as well.
What I am trying to say is that the system is not built in the same way, and thus it won’t work the same way.
When you disconnected from your instance in GW1 you could reconnect to it (within a certain time) simply because it was an instance created specifically for you.
In GW2 the instance is created for every player that currently uses the map, and thus they can’t lock it because of you disconnecting, and thus you can’t just reconnect to the same place in the same way as in GW1.
Uhhhh, what?
In GW1 every map you were in (not counting the cities/hubs) were created specifically for you and your party. In GW2 every map is created for the whole server.
GW1 has it. What happened to “the best of GW1 will be in GW2” from the manifesto? Name 3 of the best of GW1 that’s in GW2.
GW1 was built around private instances. GW2 is not, so I don’t really see how we can compare that.
