Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
Starting with this update they are changing the format. There will be no balance changes, no mechanics, and no bug fixes in these patches. The next 4 patches will ONLY be LS, nothing else.
That is not actually what they have said.
What they have said is that there will be no MAJOR features until after Season 1 of LS is done, but I doubt they will hold off balancing and bug-fixes if those are done just for the sake of doing it.
It’s quite simple: I won’t have the armor that I worked for. That will be taken away. As such, the only fair option would be to exchange that armor for another that I choose. It’s still an inconvenience, of course -I will no longer have the stats I considered the best- but at least it will be an inconvenience solely in balance/playstyle preferences, and not an inconvenience of tremendous grinding.
Oh, so the change they are making is basically removing stats from an armor?
I have yet to see this information so feel free to link it.
Or should I demand a stat-change every time they change one of my skills and/or traits because it might make me want to change to another build? Because that is basically what you are saying.
Oh, I don’t disagree with the model, I am simply pointing out that comparing expansion with standalone games is quite silly, and that we should rather compare an expansion with an expansion, and the only expansion released for GW1 was Eye of the North.
I have never claimed Nightfall was an expansion, I rather says that it is NOT an expansion in the post you quoted.
The expansion was Eye of the North which was released 2,5 years after GW1.
Can’t use is a rather faulty statement though.
Won’t use would be more correct.
There is not a single stat that CAN’T be used by any profession.
It says it here for me “Everything you love about gw1”
Ah, you mean those better versions of skills being released later on the the games life that required grinding points in order to power-up?
I am sure someone loved those as well.
People seems to be under the impression that making something as useful as everything else = destroying it.
Would making Zerker gear the same level as usefulness as Rabid make it worse?
Yes.
Would it make it useless?
No.
Something being overpowered and then changed to not so overpowered doesn’t destroy it nor make it useless.
What does it matter if it is called or comes in the traditional form of an ‘expansion’ as long as we receive the content? This confirms that everything we wanted out of an expansion will be given to us. Beyond that, who cares the means.
You’re arguing semantics: buy a movie online and get it shipped to you, or drive to the store and pick up the movie; regardless you still get a movie. I fail to see the point in this argument.
Because we got the exact same information with the last interview, and your post implied that they had confirmed an actual expansion, which isn’t true.
I think it’s interesting when people say that the LS has released the same amount of content in 1 year as the GW1 expansion did the 1st year.. it’s so laughably untrue I don’t know how they can say it with a strait face.
How can you even compare them? The LS has added (including the temp content) a tiny fraction of what we got in, say, Factions.. comparing the 2 is no contest.
You are aware that Faction (or Nightfall) weren’t expansions, right? They were standalone games, that could be played as standalone games.
If we are going to compare it to GW1 we should compare it to their only actual expansion, and that was Eye of the North, which came years after Prophecies was released, and didn’t have close to the stuff Faction and Nightfall did.
Anet has talked up their content over and over again. They have failed to deliver over and over again. What makes you think this time will be different?
Because it is not ArenaNet that is talking it up this time, but rather press that have been shown the content?
Wxp account bound – mentioned by Devon that it will be done… 2 months ago (before league 1 ended), and we still have nothing to show for this.
IMO, anet just says things to get people to shut up and stop asking. “Oh yea, and just keep playing the game and buying gems every 2 weeks and you’ve eventually see this stuff you have been asking for.”
They also mentioned that it is being tested alongside Edge of the Mists and most likely released together with that.
It is posts like this that makes devs not wanting to talk about anything at all, seeing as people will shout at them if the thing they talked about isn’t released the very next day.
Well, her main motivation in EoD would most likely be her own survival, which wasn’t really in question in GW1.
“…but we ABSOLUTELY are going to do sweeping features that you would traditionally only get in an expansion…” That is a direct statement; its confirmed.
Exactly, it is a statement that they will release features that you would “traditionally only get in an expansion”, which would imply that we will NOT get them in an expansion, which is exactly the same thing they said last time they were interviewed about it.
There is nothing in that part that confirms an expansion.
I’m sorry you don’t understand the bigger picture. oh well, have a great day!
No, I am genuinely interested, so please, inform me.
Not necessarily. People having it first will always have value.
And then we will have people spamming these forums about how some people got it for free (with gold-gem transfer) while they had to pay real money for it.
Very unlikely, since that would destroy the whole point of rewarding it for gem-purchasing.
I have yet to see the “same rehashed boring wurm” being able to pop-up in a whole zone, nor have the ability to spawn multiple heads.
Seems a bit silly do judge something from a few seconds material that shows nothing at all about the fight itself.
and they keep doing so in a pathetic “slap your loyal customers in the face” kinda way. well, I guess when financials keep dropping, it’s only feasible to spend development dollars on cheap and cheesy items and content.
Hm?
How are they slapping me and others like me in the face?
Because they release things you personally don’t like?
Well, aren’t there speculations that the Great Jungle Wurms might be minions of the Jungle Dragon?
That would definitely explain why the Priory is involved if it turns out to be true.
Most of the money goes to other games anyways, so don’t act like it doesn’t already make enough money.
Secondly you have to be smart upon purchases, who wants to buy the new dye packs with a 1 in 5 chance (550 gems/60 gold for 1 dye on average) when they are all listed for 20-45 gold each and it would be wiser to just buy them off the TP and get more for your money? Those that buy the dye packs are generally unaware of this situation before buying.
Actually prices matter a heap, some people can see when its obviously not worth it.
If it was gemstore armor/skins or tools that are considered priceless that would be a different story, this item offers us in-game items that give us money in return.
You do the math, its by far not worth it.
And how long do you think NCSoft would continue supporting ArenaNet and GW2 if it didn’t bring in enough money?
Of course, but in order for them to be available on the TP people would need to have bought them from the gemstore in the first place, so if everyone was “being smart” there would be no dyes to buy.
No, those who buy the pack simply want to either get them fast, earn extra money from selling them, or simply want to support the game.
Something being worth it is very subjective.
Checking the maths none of the permanent gathering tools (nor the salvage robot) are “worth it” and yet I find them priceless due to the massive amount of convenience they offer. Same with the nodes released with this update.
You are making a massive mistake here.
You are under the impression that the gem-store is priced based on what the conversation between Gold – Gems is, which is very much incorrect.
They always base prices on gem-costs, not gem-gold costs.
The game needs to make money in order to survive.
Guild Wars 1 had grind too….it wasn’t required grind, but a lot of the titles were grindy.
Actually ironically enough in GW1 there actually WERE required grind.
As in unable to continue with the main story without reaching certain levels of points.
It was also something added in October, based on data-mined information.
The wiki is not a reliable source of information.
The item in-game clearly states 12 hours.
No, he is talking about the new thing added today, Metabolic Primer, which increases the duration of eaten food.
Once consumed, any food eaten while the primer is active will have at least the same duration as the remaining metabolic primer time. The primer lasts for 12 hrs and does not stack.
Lets not talk for everyone shall we?
I for one prefer the current way of releasing stuff, but I suppose that might have to do with the fact that I can play quite often and thus like to get new stuff more often than once a year.
You also have to keep in mind that an expansion would most likely deliver more or less exactly the same content as the living story, but as a package instead of smaller parts released over time. So the whole argument that it is “boring and predictable” is rather silly, since the expansion would be even more so, seeing as you wouldn’t have the suspense between releases.
There is good writing and there is we put this in to cater to the XYZ crowd, but its all irrelevant as we should not be mixing moster slaying with silly and pointless real life crusades.
I would say it might turn out to be very relevant to the future story however.
We do have rather big indications that something will happen to Kasmeer after all, and it will be much more powerful for Majory if it is clear that she does have a relationship with Kasmeer.
Why do people keep assuming this?
It does MAKE SENSE that Scarlet is at the Reactor, it is not something forced in just to for the sake of it.
We knew LONG BEFORE the fractal that Scarlet had worked with the Inquest.

The best way would be to simply add resistance to certain mobs. Such as resistance to direct damage and so on.
That would both decrease the overpowering effectiveness of zerker while at the same time making conditions more viable.
“quality story arch” is a very undefined thing, and very subjective.
I for one can find somethings really good while other find it worthless and so on.
Personally I think the living story is more than good enough for a MMO while it is clear from these forums that loads of people dislike it quite a bit.
There is not a single story released that does not have cliches in one way or another.
I would say that the pain of loss is a very good opportunity in the coming chapters, and that will be much stronger if there is an actual partnership between the two characters, and there are already hints that something will happen to Kasmeer.
Don’t you get an email sent to you every time you do a gem-purchase?
I am pretty sure I do.
At least when buying the gems directly from in-game.
EDIT: Yep, just checked my email, I have gotten a mail for every single gem-purchase I have made within the game.
So you are suggesting that they throw away and send out new discs once every month or so? Because with a patch schedule with major patches every two weeks that would be more or less required in order to avoid this “issue”.
The vast majority (if not all) MMOs that are sold via disc do only contain the launcher, or at most the pre-release version of the game.
Oh, and I think the complete dat-file is actually closer to 20 gb now, so you most likely have more than 10 gb left.
And this is a great example as to why this might be a good thing.
Had it been two hetro relationships you wouldn’t even be bothered about it. But for some reason you have an issue with it because it is a kitten -relationship.
There are loads of all kinds of relationships in the game, but people does seem to overlook the “normal” (in lack of better word) relationships.
It is very likely that we will see a sneak peak tomorrow (Tuesday) since that would be one week before the release, and they usually update their preview page at that time.
The switch itself is probably not that hard to program.
But there are MASSIVE amounts of other things that needs to be taken into consideration as well.
Such as weapons, skills, gear and so on.
You are ignoring the fact that you can get the exact same quality gear without ever setting foot inside a dungeon.
Thus the “non-grindy game” still holds true.
The thing is people will always consume content MUCH faster than the devs can create it, and thus there will either be situations where you will have to repeat stuff, or else have nothing at all to do at all until the next update.
There will never be enough content to satisfy the rushers after all.
This will however create issues with several things.
Including achievements and gear.
You will also end up at lvl 80 (or whatever level you are) with a completely unfamiliar profession, which could make you a liability in groups, which in turn might make it even harder for people to find pugs and so on.
So the Battlefield games are MMOs then?
What about CS and CoD?
And LoL, DotA, HoN?
Because all those games support large numbers of players simultaneously and are played on the internet.
That would of course depend on how it is concluded.
They will probably change, but it is very unlikely that they will tell us if, and especially how, before it comes to that.
That would be spoiling stuff quite a bit after all.
The asura in GW2 is a bit like humans are in the real world.
Does that makes humans evil?
Balance is always impossible as long as a game allow different professions, stats and skills.
For a game to be completely balanced you would need to be able to select a grand total of 1 specific class, with a grand total of 1 specific skill-set and be unable to effect your stats in anyway.
Anything other than that will always have balance issues.
I’m going to use your dirty little trick against you and lordkrall: Not having Ascended gear DOES lock you out of some game content: High-end Fractals.
No ifs, no buts.
No Ascended gear?
Your Fractal progression is locked to a certain level.
And what can you see behind those levels that you can’t see at lvl 1? I am almost 100% sure that the fractals at lvl 50 is exactly the same as the fractals at lvl 1.
I can’t say that I am 100% sure, seeing as I have not gotten to lvl 50 fractals, but I have gotten to around lvl 30, and I have yet to see any Fractal that I couldn’t see at lvl 1. So if someone have gotten to lvl 50 I would love to hear some spoilers about all those new things you can only access there.
You mean just like how people in GW2 earn enough stuff to get Ascended by playing the way they want? What is the difference?
None of them are required.
Some people like them, some don’t.
I really don’t see any difference at all.
CC is actually very important in sPvP and WvW as well and the majority of the enemies there does not have immunity to CC.
The problem is that stun-locking a boss and just hitting him without him having a chance to hit back feels quite pointless.
So unless they decrease the access to stuns/knockbacks/launches vastly, removal of defiant will make every single boss extremely trivial.
Please don’t talk for all GW1 players, and if you are going to talk about GW1 at least make sure to take the whole game into account. Or are you simply unfamiliar with the skills added with Factions and forward that required quite a bit of grinding to level up and make powerful?
SAB should just be turned into an Activity in Metrica Province. Have it scale so people can solo it if they want.
SAB have always been soloable.
So you are basically demanding to get more gems for the same money?
Because that is exactly what would happen if they increased the gem amount.
The taxes doesn’t benefit ArenaNet in the slightest.
Is it actually the same thing in GW2 though?
We do after all have skills like Ether Feast and Ether Signet, but at the same time we also have Aetherblades. Wouldn’t it be logical to spell them the same if they do indeed mean the same thing?
Different accounts.
They are continuing because people are stupid enough to buy gold from them.
As for the website, it is not much ArenaNet can do about that.
Oh, that. You got enough of those points just exploring the areas and doing quests that I never felt like I was grinding to meet those requirements. Even later when I went back to get 10000 Luxon points, just to finish up the protector title, it was a negligible grind compared to the nightmare of ascended gear. Something you could knock out in an afternoon.
And yet it is REQUIRED, while in GW2 you are not mechanically blocked form anything for not having Ascended gear.
And no, just doing quests in GW1 (without doing repeating stuff) you would get about 8500 points (for Luxon), which is 1500 points less than you would need in order to progress. Sunspear also required quite a bit of going out of your way in order to get enough.
At least back when I did it around release.
Sure it was not really that hard or annoying to do it, but the point remains that it was actually REQUIRED, and yet people don’t seem to have any issue with it, while they have major issues with the non-required Ascended gear in GW2.
Something like this would more or less remove the ability to switch weapons in combat, seeing as you would suddenly sit with a couple of completely useless skills.
