There must be some issues with my bank-account then, because I have never seen any of those monies you claim I keep getting from ArenaNet.
Oh, I personally HAVE played ToR, and no, I would not want that story-team doing the Personal Story of GW2.
Why do people keep assuming that adding the Living Story parts to the EotM is something done after EotM was decided upon?
It is highly likely that the living story have been part of the release of EotM since they started planning it.
Bob, you don’t need to watch a movie or a TV series till the credits roll to find out that you don’t like the plot.
There are however quite a bit of movies and series that does not make sense until the end.
So basically your loss if you decided to hate it before that point.

Just because YOU haven’t seen anything doesn’t mean it has not been there though.
We have gotten quite a bit of information during most of the releases, and the latest one had rather much information as well, so claiming that we don’t get anything until the last chapter is just blatantly false.
Yeah, that’s you know, most likely because, you know, no one knew anything about how it was going to work, what it was going to do, and how it was going to be implemented, but yeah, you know, ok, righto.
Oh, I was always under the impression that when talking about CHARACTER PROGRESSION I were talking specifically about, you know, the progression of a character, not a progression of my whole account.
But apparently that was just me.
Testing something with EOTM suggests that it either works and thus comes out with it, or doesn’t work and that we would be told about that instead.
As such, the reason people are suspicious is because of a lack of communication. If people were simply told “we tried and had trouble”, which was what they said about changing the WvW achievements, then people would probably be fine with it.
No, what would have happened if they have told us that they had trouble with it (which is fully possibly that they will actually say at the live-stream later today) people would shout about how incompetent and useless they are and how they can’t do anything right, like always.
The best thing would simply be to not say anything about anything until it was released.
But that would make people complain about them not telling us anything. So they can’t really win.
It’s a shame they won’t admit their lie on their own site, but at least it’s out there now.

While account-bound World XP was originally intended to go live along with EotM, the highly anticipated change will not be making it into next week’s release.
To be fair they never actually confirmed that WXP would be released with EotM.
The only thing they have ever said was that it would be TESTED together with EotM. But I suppose claiming that they are lying gives a better effect.
How does one complain about a non existent variable inside a fictional idea that did not exist in the game yet?
Complainception.
If you’re going to argue pointless points, at least make the points pointy for pointification.
Because it was being discussed quite a bit before it was announced/released and those discussions were about character progression, and clearly people didn’t seem to have an issue with it being character bound back then
Countless topic where made asking for wxp account bound, many people including myself are asking for it every now and then, every week someone make a topic asking when it will be introduced.
On the other hand after season 1 ended I havent seen that much complain about queues, not as much as account bound wxp anyway.
Yes. AFTER ranks were added.
But BEFORE ranks were added, the discussions (that lead to ranks in the first place) seemed to talk about character progression rather than account-progression.
So clearly it was not an issue with it being character bound until it was released. While queue on the other hand have been an issue since release and still is.
Being completely unable to play WvW is a much bigger issue for most players than not having some extra things on their characters after all.
never go full potato. im done talking to you
account bound wvw ranks > EOTM
deal with it
Well people never seemed to have an issue with ranks being characterbound when ranks and such were discussed back in the days. Which was more or less the point I was trying to make.
Queues on the other hand have always been seen as an issue, while character-bound progression have not.
what queues? on NA only JQ and BG have queues most of the time. SoR doesn’t have queues anymore. most of the BLs have outnumbered buff even in primetime NA
and i was talking about DAY 1 of WVW ranks
and you are on aurora glade, 13th rank EU server atm… you don’t have queues there, maybe on reset night
and no, if you don’t have at least a guardian/ele ALT geared up ready to use when your WVW guild needs it then NO i don’t consider you a serious wvwer
Eh?
We have quite long queues daily.
I do find it quite interesting that you seems to be able to play on every server on every match-up. That would require a rather massive amount of accounts (and also rather massive amounts of computers, seeing as most computers can’t handle more than one or two clients at the same time).
Just because WvW account-bound ranks is the most important thing in the world for you, doesn’t mean it is for everyone, or even the majority.
I never heard anyone complain about lack of Account-bound WvW ranks before the added WvW ranks (even though people did want some sort of progression system for quite some time before it was added), we have however heard complaints about queues in WvW since release of the game, long before they announced Edge of the Mists, so clearly that is a bigger issue than account-bound ranks.
Oh?
I would consider myself a serious WvW:er and I have been in a guild that was focusing only on WvW and interestingly enough the vast majority (I would even be as bold as to say all) of us had more issues with being unable to play due to queues than we had with ranks being character-bound.
The fact that you claim that everyone of us would have answer that account bound ranks should have been in game since day 1 shows your ignorance as well, seeing as the ranks themselves were not added until quite some time after release. And thus having them account bound before they were even added wouldn’t make much sense.
Loads of people have been asking since release for something to be able to play WvW while being queued.
they announced it on November 27. Account bound WvW ranks coming “soon”
its been over 2 months
During which time they have focused mainly on Edge of the Mists. Which they already knew back than had a very set release date (February 4th) which meant they had to put as much resources as possibly into it in order to make sure it hits its deadline.
While Account Bound ranks is nice and something I am looking forward to, it is a rather low priority issue, and more pressing matters should and will take priority over it.
I wonder how many people here are actually developer.
And of those of us that are, how many have actually seen GW2s code/db structure?
Because people seem to assume that it is something that can be done in a few hours.
Here’s the contents of the link announcing Edge of the Mists. There are no references to Living Story at all, so I don’t see how anyone can deduce it is likely they had it planned all along.
Also….why? There’s was nothing but negative feedback when Scarlet and the Toxic Alliance showed up in the Living World last time. At the time, I personally thought it might work out simply as a way to add a new twist and something else to enter into logistical calculations and tactics, but since they could be easily avoided by small and large zergs alike, that didn’t really happen. All their addition did was ruin current WvW content when the toxic NPCs were placed right on top of mercenary camps in all the maps.
Yes, one can of course choose to ignore the reveal for the present content and copy something about different content being talked about months ago, but that doesn’t really make much sense.
This thread is about this specific release, which was released with this specific trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkA0Y_KRcTo which does make it quite clear that there will be Living Story components in the release. In fact the trailer makes the whole Living Story component much larger than the map itself.
Oh? I saw positive feedback as well. But then again, I suppose one sees what one wants to see.
And there is a rather major difference this time around.
Now they are using Scarlet and her minions as a way to explain why we suddenly have a new map to play on. Which quite a few people prefer to just suddenly have a new map playable for no ingame reason whatsoever.
The map will still be there long after the Living Story part is over, and I am quite sure that the Living story components will indeed be removed when it is over. And thus we will get that map, and at the same time possible a couple of new players.
To be fair one could assume that it is not an easy fix.
You can’t after all just buff everything up to the highest level, if the user don’t have said item-level on him/her/it since that would basically make the classes using those things unfair advantages.
They don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
Using the Living Story to explain why we suddenly have a new map (which seems to be the case) is actually a rather good thing.
I though it was quite clear that Edge of the Mists will be invaded by the Aetherblades and thus give us a rather clear view that it is very much tied into the Living Story.
We know Scarlet have been looking towards the Mists, and now we will see why.
It is extremely unlikely that this have not been planned since they announced Edge of the Mists.
And why do we want achievement hunters in WvW???
(Don’t say for free kills, because even that is boring). I would prefer ANET not “force” people into WvW, just as I would prefer ANET not “force” PVE at me.
We don’t.
We want potential new WvW:ers. And this is a good way to get that.
There are quite a bit of people that had no plans to enter WvW because they have decided from the start that they won’t like it.
But then they actually tried and and started playing it regularly.
How can wxp wide ranks be very difficult and be bugged? It’s not that big of a change.
Even the seemingly easiest thing can get rather massive bugs.
More often than you would imagine.
The thing is that they can’t just answer, this is something that needs to go through quite a bit of people before a decision is made, and thus we will simply have to wait.
U no like? U NO BUY!
Such hard…much decision..wow
That is indeed the best way.
And the way I have chosen.
The main issue is that nothing in-game gives this information, and thus people might end up buying it even without know that they are “accepting” this new added stuff.
Seems like we won’t be getting account bound WXP with this update.
A bit bummed about it, but then again I would rather wait a bit more than risk losing ranks to bugs or other issues.
(a)I find it amazing just how kitten people get about something so worthless (sprockets).
And I find it amazing how people still don’t understand that this is not specifically about the sprockets.
no, it wasnt, there was also a story instance, scarlet’s secret lab, and the the ability to destroy and harvest thumpers… none of these three elements were listed in the trailer, but would have been included in 2013’s style of preview pages. So what is featured in the video is NOT all we’re going to receive.
Maybe I should have added a massive sarcasm tag, because clearly my “oh wait..” wasn’t giveaway enough.
What’s the issue?
I purchased the bone pick back in December and used in game currency gold, not money. I may pick this one up too, with in game currency but, I wouldn’t pay real money for it. Those of us who run dungeons daily this is about 2-3 weeks worth of gold.
The issue is what a possible next step can be.
Right now it is giving something that is readily available (for now) in the game.
But what if the next one gives Azurite ore which is currently extremely limited?
That does of course have more to do with the limitations and “invisible walls” of GW1 than actual size.
If you could just run in a straight line (which is more or less possible in GW2) it wouldn’t take long.
A comparison of Guild Wars Prophecies Explorable Zones vs. Guild Wars 2
B-but Guild Wars Prophecies sucked R-r-r-right?
Rather bad comparison, seeing as the maps in GW2 is much bigger than most of Prophecies maps were.
Hm, just did Marionette event again, and found Scarlets comment when one of the chains were cut quite interesting, something along the lines about us being the reason she can’t have nice toys.
It is probably nothing, but might suggest someone is bossing over her.
I would guess that the thread was locked due to us getting a response soonish.
Now we know they have read it at least.
Ok most of you failed to mention the prices, the M.A.P was 800 gems = $10.00, now the new ones are 1000 gems = S12.50 so therefore players pay more for the added bonus.
You are missing the fact they increased the price when it was made account-bound, so only the soul-bound version (the very batch I believe) sold for 800, while when they came back they sold for 1000 gems each.
Oh I’m sure ZeniMax will send ANet a thank you card for all the business.
Oh, haven’t you heard the latest screw-up?
Making a race (that they were very adamant against putting in the game) available only to people who buy the CE of the game.
I don’t think said game will be seen as much of a threat anymore.
That brings up a good point though. The Developers said that these 4 patches would be LS. After that, a huge features type patch will come. I kinda assumed Balance updates, the Edge of The Mists and things like that would be in that big Features patch, but now we are getting it.
So what will come in this features patch? I guess we know it will be some new sPvP skills, the new Ferocity stat, and some reworks of sigils and runes, unless of course those will come too before March-ish.. What will be coming though? Hmmmmm
Indeed, I was 100% set on Edge of the Mists being released in that patch, so a bit surprised that we got it this early.
This might suggest that they are aiming on releasing quite big stuff that we have not yet heard about. There are some rumors about new sPvP types being in the work, and that could definitely be considered featurey enough to be a main point of that map.
It is also possible that we might get more PvE maps unlocked and so on.
I am actually getting quite interested now ^^
Since there isn’t any features being added in these 4 final patches why should there be a page to spoil even a bit of the story? The trailer is fine, but I DO expect them to go back to the old style after march 4th living story I think thats when the 4th one is.
To be fair I would say that a whole new map full with new mechanics is a rather large amount of features.
Same with the two bosses which both had new mechanics.
I do see your point, but calling it no new features is quite silly.
It will suck players away from the PPT match up, making coverage problems even worse for small servers. Too bad you can’t see that through your rose tinted glasses.
And now, back to my ignore list with you.
Real WvW-players will stay on the real maps. Simple as that. EotM is more of a middle-ground between PvE and WvW and thus, most likely, won’t interest the majority of the people playing WvW for the sake of playing WvW.
Why do I get punished for buying my molten pucks (for each character) months ago?!
Well to be fair that is how everything works in real life as well.
If you buy a car today, I will be able to buy a better car for the same price in a few months.
There is a reason for opening up the map – pvp.
I am talking about in-game reason.
Just adding a map without any kind of in-game reason is quite silly.
Its a WvW overflow map created specifically to deal with queue issues no the regular WvW maps so it is a real WvW map.
It doesn’t, in any way or form, as far as I know effect the real match-ups though.
or there is just nothing to preview since all features got bundled into a single patch at some future date.
Ah yes, because all we got with the Origin of Madness was a Wurm and a Marionette fight just as shown in the trailer.
Oh wait..
I’m really not here to read reciprocal questions from lordkrall.
I would like to know why Anet is not listening to the players on this issue, or even looking at their own metrics. I’m sure they know exactly how many Energy Probes have been destroyed in the borderlands this week, and I’m certain it’s “not very many”.
It’s a small number because living story, toxic mobs and energy probes are not relevant to WvW.
But they are.
They are not adding it into the real WvW maps, they are adding it into a new map, which would serve several purposes.
1: It explains why we get a completely new map all of a sudden.
2: It helps push the story of the world forward.
3: It gets more people into WvW and might end up with increased participation overall.
People are asking ArenaNet to remove Living story from the borderlands. ArenaNet does that by putting it on a new (already PvE heavy) map.
People are asking ArenaNet to give more people reason to join WvW. ArenaNet does that by putting Living Story stuff in a semi-WvW-PvE map.
I really don’t see how we can claim them not listening.
The item is available in every Scarlett invasion and in your home instance if you complete the meta for this Living Story.
For now.
And the thread isn’t really about the specific item obtained either, but rather about the fact that it does happen.
What about if they release an item that lets you get something that is very sparingly available, such as Azurite ore?
Indeed.
Hopefully they will, as suggested earlier in the thread, release in-game temporary tools with the same ability.
It would basically be a win-win.
They can still sell this item without much issues, and people can’t claim that you get unavailable advantages in the gem-store.
It is after all rather dangerous to change stuff (mechanically) that have already been sold.
An issue if it happens and even then I’m unconvinced, but I can see a clearer argument if it did. I would say that is something to raise down the line though. The argument atm is people saying it is P2W right now, which I’m not seeing.
That is indeed true.
Currently it is not really an issue, but I think that the OP is talking about that it could become and issue in the future, P2W might not be the right word though.
I know what you are saying, but atm there are a few sources for sprockets – invasions, marionette, tp, the node. Until all other sources dry up – and we don’t know if that ever will – it’s a difficult argument to use. Even if they do, well I still maintain this isn’t p2w as there is no real advantage, but could see how it be annoying to people.
I would say it is more an issue with the ability itself rather than specifically sprockets.
Sure sprockets are plentiful, but what if the next one gives Azurite instead?
THAT is the potential issue.
The best solution for everyone would simply be to add the ability to buy temporary versions of these picks in the game. Then it will be more or less exactly the same as the already existing permanent tools.
Show me the information where LS stuff ont be more in WvW map?
Show me the information where LS stuff will be on the other WvW maps?
Nope, and it seems like it was actually lvl 0.
You simply craft them from the menu.
Five blue ones become one green.
Two greens one yellow.
Two yellows one orange.
