Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
actually, i bought the game for 60 dollars when the game first came out… so… thats even worse!
I suppose those THREE YEARS of being able to play is worth nothing then?
keep in mind… character slots are only 800 gems… which is 10 dollars…..
Keep in mind… the game have been on sale multiple times this year for 10 dollars…
Because there is plenty of things in-game that actually points towards killing the Elder Dragons actually being a bad thing for the world?
Why are people assuming that we will kill Mordremoth at all?
Why is Heart of Thorns not broadly being advertized as containing a battle with the elder dragon? Because that would be a good selling point. I think we all know the answer.
Why wasn’t original Guild Wars 2 broadly being advertized as containing a battle with the Elder Dragon? Because that would be a good selling point. But clearly we DID fight the Elder Dragon in the original release of GW2.
I know my name. Why would I need to see it?
Arenanet has let it slide in one of the interviews that Mordremoth will not be in the HOT expansion. I do not have a link for you, but they have been remarkably quiet about Mordremoth, so the fact that they are not broadly advertizing it seems to confirm this rumor from one of the interviews.
ArenaNet also let it slide that there will be 15 dungeons, 10 raids, 25 maps and 10 new world bosses.
Oh, I don’t have a link for you but they totally said it!
How much did they tell us about Zhaitan and the fight against him before release? As far as I remember, very little.
Except that they aren’t.
They are lobby games. Otherwise basically every single game in the whole world with online multiplayer capabilities would be MMOs.
http://mmos.com/editorials/most-profitable-mmos-mmorpgs
This is the list of the most profitable MMO there are and I will ask you this if any is gonna wanna watch it. What do most of those games have in common?
Not being MMOs? ^^

The world is a big place and in some countries people get that much money after 8 days of work and that is in well off countries like Bulgaria and Russia in many others you need to work 1 month to get so many.
The life of those people should not be stress and struggle all the time they do not work less then any others and should relax with a video game also.
But isn’t that kind of the point though? If $50 is too much once a year, maybe playing computer games isn’t really the thing you should be worrying about in the first place?
Even though money is tight, I was willing to buy HoT. But then it turned out there won’t be any dungeons and thief spec won’t be rifle, so I’ve pretty much gone from waiting for a half price sale to not caring at all.
Until something is actually announced we can’t really say what the specializaion will be.
Keep in mind that we “knew” that Elementalist specialization would be Sword, but nowadays it seems to point more towards Warhorn.
No you don’t. You don’t actually get the base game for free, or else they’d be handing out free copies of the base game to existing players as well. We pay the same price, so where is our free copy of the base game? Oh we already have it? Well then let us gift a buddy with it then. I mean Nightfall CE came with a buddy code. Oh we can’t? Well then I suppose the free core game isn’t included! You have been tricked sir. By marketing.
We get a free character slot instead. The core-game is included if you create a new account, if you do not, you get a free character slot. Simple as that. So no matter how you twist and turn it, we do get at least one character slot.
We already know that we won’t be fighting Mordremoth, this has been said in interviews.
Source?
That is a load of nonsense. If you put the bar that low, then anything is end game content.
Have you seen the new maps? Based on what we have seen in the betas it does seem to be rather hard, and thus could be considered end-game. They are of course also max level all of them.
It’s not about need, it’s about want. Many people would love a bonus soundtrack with the expansion. Nightfall did it. So why not?
Because there is no soundtrack?
Far from it. Revenant has far less skills than either of those two professions, and the revenant even copies some Dervish game mechanics.
Number of skills != how big something is.
What does that really add?
New playing styles for the existing characters and plenty of new mechanics.
Yes we do. So far we know it will not be a huge amount of maps. Certainly not the amount that was in any of the GW1 expansions.
While true, it is worth pointing out that more or less every map in GW2 is much larger than the maps in Nightfall. Especially in HoT where they will have three layers.
No it’s not. They are the exact same price!
No wait, Nightfall CE was even slightly cheaper!
It is rather silly to compare a price from 2006 to a price from 2015. The economy is not the same now as it was back then. In fact, as far as I am aware, if taking inflation and such into consideration, we are paying LESS for HoT than we did for the GW expansions.
-Not a full a stand alone expansion
-No extra character slots at all
-No final boss fight with Mordremoth, just one of his champions
-No endgame areas or dungeons as far as been announced so far
-Not even the soundtrack
-The revenant
-One new Specialization for each profession
-A few explorables
Every single one that pre-purchase the game either gets the whole base game for free OR a character slot if they already own the game. So clearly we do get extra character slot (or base game.
We have no information whatsoever about how the storyline will end. Unless you already have access to the expansion, and if you do I would love to hear some more about the challenging group content and the story.
The whole expansion is adding end game areas.
There is no need for a soundtrack when you can just listen to the vast majority of the tracks for free on the soundcloud page.
The revenant seems quite a bit more than the Paragon and Dervish I would say.
One sub-class per profession is quite good.
We have no information about the number of maps.
It is of course also worth pointing out that you are comparing a Collectors Edition version to a Standard Edition, which is rather silly.
I can’t believe that this expansion is pricing players out of the game. This game is truly becoming an art for elitists. Not just in price but in in- game politics too.
My heart simply saddens the more I learn about Heart of Thorns, as these thorns have truly scratched this gaming community. This will become a thorn in everyone’s side.
Gaming is a luxury. There are billions of people in the world that do not have the money to play computer games.
But it is a matter of learning the new changes.
Maybe people need to focus more on a specific build?
Maybe people need to focus more on condition damage now that the cap is lifted?
Maybe people need to focus more on the critical hit spot and so on?
I did Triple Trouble Wurm yesterday ( and I would assume that it is still harder than Tequatl, seeing as they also got the same increase in health) and the only reason we failed that was due to people not listening to instructions. We would easily have gotten it down if people had done that however.
So, Tequatl is finally back as a fight that might actually require a bit of organization and thinking? Just like it was supposed to be in the first place? That is a good thing.
But then again, we had a massive amount of threads like these when Tequalt was changed as well and claims about it being impossible, and yet after a week it was more or less farm status on it again.
Nothing.
You can keep playing as usual.
The current zones will still be playable.
The new WvW changes (including the new map) will be playable.
The new sPvP mode will be playable.
I just want to make sure that it’s not an issue, when I give it a name that parades my sexual views.
So, what you are going to do is basically “attacking” the LGBT guild due to not agreeing with them?
Heck, the LGBT guild have nothing at all to do with “parading sexual views” in the first place, seeing as everyone is allowed to join, even if they are 100% straight.
Why they been dying like no tomorrow in Zhaitan story then?
Defeated != Dead.
To be fair I would say that the positions are most likely mainly for post-HoT work rather than HoT itself, since it is unlikely that anyone getting hired now will be up to scratch before HoT is already finished.
Well, let’s be clear – the bug wasn’t unavoidable. It was absolutely avoidable, and better QA should have caught it before it happened (as I’m sure they’ve caught countless other epic bugs). Indeed with a proper PTR it would probably have been caught (very odd because Anet clearly want one, but don’t have one – begs the question why?). They were also unprepared for the type of fix they’d need to do, by their own admission. But these things happen, it was unforeseen, and that’s okay so long as it gets fixed within a reasonable time period.
Technically one could of course claim that every single bug is avoidable by that logic. And yet there is not a single advanced piece of software anywhere that is completely bug-free.
I have played multiple games with PTR. There are still rather large issues turning up when updates go live, despite having been on a PTR for months before.
The thing is that this issue turned up “for no reason whatsoever”, seeing as they, as far as we are aware, did no work at all with the system involved. Therefor even with extensive testing it might have slipped by, simply due to not being focused as it should not have happened in the first place.
The bug needed a very specific action to do. An action that most likely would have been bypassed during testing.
That is just the nature of development. You can test things for years upon years but there will ALWAYS be something that is not found until stuff goes live (heck, something CAN’T happen until stuff goes live, due to the impossibility to fully emulate a live server).
Only time will tell on that, but while you’re hanging around the Consortium’s new HQ in LA, listen for a few small tidbits in the office gossip between employees hinting at their mysterious (and remote) leadership.
Speaking of Southsun, there’s been a slight update in the status quo there, between SubdirectorNoll and the new island Sheriff.
Is it safe to assume that we will someday see more of this leadership and/or the Consortium’s misguided doings?
This is not an exploit. You’re A-OK.
Oh, I really thought it was an exploit (have tried it a couple of times and always seems to get more ectoes and gold back then I spent) but you are saying that it is okay to use it in its current state?
EDIT: Yep, scratch that. I kept going after reading that it was okay and it does indeed appear to be very random.

Have people even tried to look more than just seeing that not everything is automatically unlocked?
If you are lvl 80 you have enough points to unlock everything.
Yes, you need to do it manually, but the points are there.
Good, I didn’t think it made sense to have people do challenges they already did in the the past. Great call..
That was never the thing though.
You would still have gotten Hero points based on challenges you had already done. But before this change you would need to do (or have done) a minimum of 65 skills challenges in order to unlock everything.
The only thing this changes is that you will have enough points by simply leveling to lvl 80. The skill challenges completed will still give you hero points retroactively though.
A quick update on this one -> After feedback from presenting the original hero point count – we decided getting to level 80 will give you enough hero points to unlock all the core skills and traits entirely. Doing hero challenges (aka skill challenges) will simply allow you to earn all the skills/traits earlier before level 80. With the release of HoT, there will be options to spend the excess hero points earned from doing hero challenges in the world.
There are a number of other changes on 6/23 to make the experience from 1-80 more exciting, better-paced, rewarding, and fun as well after having the time to evaluate and player feedback from the updates last year.

Why thank you kind sir.
Looking forward to seeing these changes coming as well.
The funny thing is that if they had not change it, we would have just as much raging about it containing false/incorrect information.
It is very likely that it is simply a matter of human error. They made changes to how the game would be released, and they simply forgot to change the FAQ. When it was brought up, they changed it. Simple as that.
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: lordkrall.7241
Yes, yes it is.
Guild Wars 2 original release started pre-purchasing in April I believe with the release date coming in June.
It outright says that it is not from ArenaNet (you even quoted it in your post).
It is not from ArenaNet. Do not click the link and remove the link from the post before someone else clicks on it.
No. You will not be able to purchase HoT for gems.
Since when does the core game contain 6 character slots?
We have no information about the number of maps. We are also getting plenty more than just new maps with HoT.
You get Zhaitan Story + Modremoth Story. You have to buy Mordremoth Rising Story (Living Story S2).
I suppose we are also disregarding the fact that veteran players have had access to the game for potentially 2,5 years?
Not giving the new players the specilizations seems like a bad idea. Won’t this result in balancing issues?
The specializations are not upgrades. They are just adding new things to the profession, not making them stronger. So it shouldn’t effect balance between the different versions.
Yep, bought myself a Deluxe as well, looking forward to venturing into the jungle.
There better be a butt ton of content then.
Content is not everything that counts though.
There are rather large amount of (big) things coming with HoT.
It is of course also worth pointing out that $50 is rather standard price for a AAA MMO expansion.
I’m fine with a higher price for good content. I’m not ok with the fact that rebuying base game is factored into that price.
It isn’t.
The price for the expansion is $50. The base game is added in for free to people that don’t have it.
If you press that link you will get the ability to login to an existing account.
Aye, I would also like to hear an explanation for this change. I don’t think the change is really needed so would be interesting to hear why it was made.
This feature will require no work from the server. It’s purely client side code for visual. The client already has all the information it needs. So no worries, it won’t affect performance/skilllag in WvW
That does actually depend on how condition ticks are counted. It is rather likely that they are counted server-side rather than client-side and thus things like these would need to be done at server-side which would affect performance.
^ Actually there are multiple minis that can ONLY be obtained in-game and at least 1 outfit (back during Halloween).
No, but if the store had a price tag on bread that sold the bread for 1 cent and you bought 100 loaves, went to check out, paid, got a receipt, and then was told to have a nice day and went home. Do you think you deserve to have the cop show up a few days later and put you in jail for life?
You just thought that was a good f’n deal on bread. Because the store LET you buy it, and the STORE set the price, not you.
I am rather sure that there is a law against that.
If something is a clear mistake, you taking advantage of it will end up with you getting in trouble. Even if the mistake was made by the store/bank/company/whatever. No one in their right mind would buy 100 loaves of bread naturally after all.
Lets take another more clear example: You go to a bank and find out that you can withdraw unlimited amount of money without it changing the balance of your account. You decide to withdraw $10 000. Should you really get away with that just because the mistake was the banks and not yours?
If people exploit, they should get punished and the only real punishment one can get in an MMO is to get banned.
^ So basically: People clearly exploiting should only lose what they gained from the exploit rather than the account itself?
Why? If you exploit something you should lose access to your account, simple as that.
It is not like someone robbing a store gets away with just losing out on the stolen goods after all.
I find that GW2 is a much more expensive game than a sub base game. That money can get you 2 months sub and game items are not limited to real life money even if it is not pay 2 win items.
I prefer sub base game because I can get all the items I wanted without paying $20 for one piece and $20 for another piece. That is equivalent to 4 mths of sub.
So you prefer being forced to pay in order to even login over being able to CHOOSE to pay for something?
It is of course also worth pointing out that every single thing in the gem store can be obtained 100% free by converting in-game gold to gems.
But would enough “more people” be willing to buy them for it to break even?
You have to keep in mind that gems is basically the only real income ArenaNet have at this point.
There is speculation that it will come out in the next patch with the rebuilding of LA. Which if they keep with the 2 weeks will put it in the 23rd
There is no speculation involved. It has been outright stated that it will come with the next content patch. WHEN the next content patch is, we do not know however.
I like how FFXIV implemented the barbershop. You take a few quests and bam, permanent hair dresser at your beck and call for only 2k gil (pretty cheap considering how much gil you earn.)
But you would also need to technically pay real money for it, due to the game requiring a subscription.
Every thursday they are putting out a blog post for an update on HOT or and game changes. So….you get the idea.
So basically assumptions that there would be a big announcement?
I suppose we disregard the fact that we got multiple blogs earlier during the week?
And no, it is not a core element of the game. Which is made rather clear by the statement made that around 1% of the legit playerbase would be effected by the change. If it was a core element of the game it is rather likely that that number would have been bigger.
No, it have not been supported. It is POSSIBLE to do it, but something being possible doesn’t mean it is supported.
It is possible do do plenty of things everywhere, that doesn’t mean it is supported to do such things however.
Who said anything about there being a big announcement this week in the first place?
And how many of those “every other big MMO” does not require a subscription to play?
Make sure to make the character the “right” way from the start if it is such big of an issue to pay a rather small amount of gems to change it later.
They need to get money from somewhere. And I for one prefer if it is for things like these instead of from selling game-effecting stuff.
“Businesses have been doing so for as long as there have been taxes. No reason why dungeon sellers and their customers in a computer game should be an exception”
Yeah, there is no comparison with real life businesses to dungeon sellers.
As someone else stated, the trading of items was a norm in GW1 due to the forced wallet size. Here’s another point; Would Anet even want us FORCING players to pay by ecto? Artificial prices, something I’m sure they want to avoid given the reliance on an RNG system. On the other hand, maybe it’ll add real flow to the trading post.
And once again (since you seem to completely disregard it) dungeons selling is not supported, therefore they couldn’t care less about how it is effected by their attempts to combat gold selling.
