Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
We did have one of those during the first Halloween event (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Reaper%27s_Rumble) and I suppose it simply wasn’t popular enough since it didn’t return.
I find it a bit premature to claim it was not enough before it is actually over.
One thing to keep in mind when it comes to realism and such: The game world does not necessarily move as fast as the real world.
We actually know for a fact that the attack on Lion’s Arch was more or less over and won within a day or two, and yet in real world time the attack took place for weeks.
It is also rather unlikely that the time between the Breachmaker and the current events are several months, but rather a few weeks at most.
^ Doubt that would answer that, seeing as that would give potential cheaters more information than they should have.
The answer would however most likely be as fast as possible.
Why not assume the reason we are getting the new system in order to make it possible for new modes?
The problem is that most people still wouldn’t actually do those things. Rather they would just come here and rage about being “spammed” by the system and demand that it stops.

Shouldn’t be against the rules. But do not expect any sort of help if someone scams you or get scammed.
Here’s what I don’t understand. If Mordy is drawn to a magic locket in the Shiverpeeks, then Glints egg has to be like someone placed a searchlight in his back yard. Seems like a dumb move by the Master of Peace. If he needed a bloodstone, why choose one so close to Mordremoth?
I think Caithe wants to use the egg to somehow heal the Pale Tree.
If he is taking it to a bloodstone it can simply be due to it being basically the only one that can be somewhat easily reached. The only other one we currently know the locations of would be the Ring of Fire one as far as I am aware, and that would probably be more or less impossible to access.
It is often claimed that server are in germany for Europe but network traceroute says it is us.
The European servers are very much in Frankfurt.
There is no dungeon team, so not sure who would build them.
There have been dungeons after said team was added to the Living Story teams.
I am rather certain that if there is a confirmed DDoS attack ArenaNet can temporarily disable the system (I seem to recall them doing it with the current system during DDoS-attacks.
Please explain me why you can’t move player to Hotm when match is found ?
Just give 30s or even 60s on ready prompt to let everybody load their screens and problem solved. Forcing players to move to hotm while in queue will upset many players. The perfect solution would be a ready prompt on screen where ever you are or what ever you are doing, just like current pvp reminder with go now button.
Because not everyone have fast enough internet or computers to load two screens in reasonable time?
Indeed they do.
But I doubt it is as simple as just pressing a button and then immediately get access to said logs.
While you won’t know when a GM is watching it is rather beside the point.
Lets say player A is a bit of a kitten and decides to “go afk” for 3 minutes. Then decides to come back. Those 3 minutes are more than enough time for everyone to report player A but probably not enough time for a GM to turn up. Thus when the GM turns up player A is not AFK at that time, which could very well make it look like false reporting (which will waste even more time since they would have to go through logs and such.
It is also rather usual for people to talk in chat about reporting people and as such the supposed AFK:er can easily see that (if it is actually not AFK) and thus start moving when everyone have reported it.
Something should be done about AFK:ers but I do not think this is the right way to do it.
Actually, you’re making a kittenumption that there’s only 2 episodes remaining, just because we had a break after 4 episodes and they called it ‘mid-season’ doesn’t necessarily mean there are 4 more left, there could be more…and it has been stated(the A.net statement has been copied in other threads that they didn’t want to tell us how many episodes remain), though I doubt we’ll kill him within the next 2 episodes. I seriously doubt there’s only 2 episodes remaining in the season either.
The problem is that if there is more than 2 episodes left that would basically mean that we will have yet another break between episode 8 and episode 9 seeing as ArenaNet usually (and very likely also will this year) takes a holiday break during the Christmas and New Years holidays. Which would mean that a potential episode 9 would not come until middle/end of January at the earliest.
Which can create issues with people pretending to be AFK and then when it seems likely that people have reported, they start moving just in time for when the GM starts watching and as such the report will be seen as false.
I simply don’t think there is a secure enough way to get this to work to be honest.
GMs does indeed get paid for policing the game.
But being able to basically summon a GM because you and your team happens to be bored or whatever is not really good for anyone.
So basically waste the GMs time?
Giving the direct ability to users to summon a GM is seldom not a good idea.
As for no one abusing it because risk of ban: That is simply not true, people are reporting others more or less all the time without any real reason despite the threat of being banned for doing so.
I still do not understand why ANET just not wait and release them all at once as an expansion like WoW does.
People would riot of Warlords had weekly quests…
I suppose we should ignore the fact that people raged quite a bit the year between the last content update and the release of WoD then?
People can of course CHOOSE to wait until a whole season is released if they want to get the expansion feeling, but for those of us that prefer to have content coming more often than once a year changing to an expansion system would not give us a choice.
Solution:
Better Reportsystem.
Someone being reported by all his teammates should call a GM who will end the match, banning the person acting like a kitten and wishing everyone a good next match.
Way too easy to abuse though.
We already know we wont kill Mordremoth in S2.
Do we?
Isn’t the whole point of our current attack to kill it before it fully awakens though?
But then again, I don’t really think we will actually manage to kill it, so I have a feeling we might see its full awakening (and its consequences) during the last episode.
I doubt very much that it will be returned to the same state. It might see some more repairs, but a complete return to the original state is very unlikely.
How did last episode in any way or form suggest that we will get Crystal Desert?
We have no reason to go there. Glint is dead. Her (as far as we know) only surviving egg is somewhere in the western parts of Tyria. Not eastern.
Could you at the very least implement a loud audible prompt when the queue pops? One which overrides the “mute when GW2 is in background” setting so you can hear it even when task-switched? Cause if we’re going to be forced to be idling while queued, I’m personally going to be task switched.
From the blog-post:
When a match has been found, a distinct sound will alert players who have the game minimized or are looking away from their screens. The game will also flash on the task bar if sound is muted. For the players who have walked away from their computers, or for players who simply forgot they were in queue and no longer want to play, the ready check finds and replaces them before the match even starts.
Most likely two more episodes.
One on December 2nd and another one at December 16th.
What makes you so sure we haven’t seen parts of it already?
Another thing to keep in mind is that AI work takes quite a bit of time.
And to be fair he didn’t actually say anything at all about Guild Wars 2 in his post (even though it is very likely that he is referring to something in GW2).
Sure, those things can happen. But if they happen so frequently that you will actually get hurt by the lock-out maybe PvP is not the mode you should be playing in the first place?
It would also be rather weird that those sudden/unexpected change of plans suddenly turned up after the match is about to start, rather than during the queue for finding a match in the first place.
I understand the idea, but it does seems a bit too stressful to “well-intentioned players” compared to how some other games do it.
Is it possible to get a compromise? For example, why not having dishonor only kick in if the player declices a match two+ times in a row, and/ or too many times a day?
Why queue up for a match if you are not going to join a match though?
It’s nice that AFKers are being addressed, but I’d also like to see something done about 4v5. Something like a system that delays 5th man from spawning until someone dies. People quit matches for all sorts of reasons regardless of dishonor, a system in place to keep the match balanced for the rest of the game will benefit both sides.
I don’t think that basically punishing one team because someone from the other team left is a good solution. Especially not since it can be used quite easily to grief.
what if a person as a legit reason to go afk; can there be a “man-up” clause where the player takes responisbility for leaving and takes some penalty but doesn’t acquire huge dishonor? a gold price maybe?
That would defeat the whole point of the system though.
And even if you have a legit reason to go AFK it will only be a very short punishment at first, and if you somehow manage to get so many legit reasons to AFK that you will get week-long dishonor punishments maybe sPvP is not for you?
It is an area effect. Move out of the area and it gets removed.
I would say ~1 minute. That is enough if you get disconnected, start the game again and load into the map.
But what about people with slower connections? They might not have the time to get back in with that time. So why should they punish people with worse connections more than people with good ones?
And that is the thing. Either they punish everyone equally or they don’t punish people at all.
But where to draw the line?
How long would you have?
Oh and I’d like to add: why do you think monetizing WvW is hard?
Suggestion: gem store wvw:
- custom banners: different styles of banner
- custom castle skins: e.g. gold ornaments
- custom siege weapons: e.g. a catapult shooting rainbow quaggans instead of cannon balls, rainbow unicorn pun intended.Sell it for 500-800 gems in the store, i’m sure people will hop on. Just give us some regular fixes, updates idk… anything.
And then people would whine about them spending time on those things rather than doing stuff for “fixing” WvW.
But what is the limit for the “instant” reconnect?
People will slower internet would not be able to reconnect “instantly”.
They need to draw the line somewhere, and it is better to just say no to everyone.
You might want to check your facts there… WoW launched their first expansion 2 years and 2 months after launch, not even close to 3 years. Secondly they added:
2 new PvP modes
4 new PvP maps
4 new dungeons
6 raids
4 festivals
3 events
in addition to the normal feature sets (PvP ranks, PvP rewards, LFG tool, cross server stuff, etc)All free of charge before their first expansion. So you can see why people think GW2 is lagging behind content wise. Plus they did all that without any competition to encourage them to do so.
/inbeforesomeonetellsmetogobacktowow
Oh? I was under the impression that WoW have always had the subscription, but are you saying they didn’t before their first expansion?
Play and read/write
To be fair it can’t really be delayed since we don’t actually have specific dates for any of the episodes.
It can of course take a planned pause, but that is not really a delay.
I would say it is very likely that ArenaNet were fully aware when they planned for Season 2 that Winterday would happen in December and as such they have most likely planned it around that.
Either Wintersday comes later this year, or Wintersday will be released with a Living Story update, seeing as it will most likely be the same as last year.
That voice acting though… Tbf though British Accents by anyone who isn’t British generally annoy me considering there’s a wealth of talented British voice actors to choose from.
Plus people can’t get over the fact the PS is really about him completing his Hunt than your story
EDIT: Although saying all that someone did tell me his voice actor is actually British. Anyone can confirm that?
Yep, Matthew Brenher is British (was just about to point it out when I saw your edit.)
if they kick the player who opened the instance everyone if thrown out, if you have problems with being kicked just make sure that you’re the one who opens the instance and you’re safe
That was actually changed quite some time ago as far as I remember. No one is “owning” the instance anymore.
The pink moas are simply mordrem that have been transformed into moas by Kasmeers Mesmer magic (more specifically this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Polymorph_Moa)
If it is tied to a specific region (I live in Scandinavia and have personally only ever had issues about 10 minutes access the forums earlier today) it would suggest a local problem rather than ArenaNet problem.
Having it posted on Reddit is not the way to contact ArenaNet, in order to contact ArenaNet you post here or submit a ticket.
Because without any sort of consequence of death people would just run in again and again and again and again and again against bosses or whatever until it was killed. With the need for repairs you have to at least think a bit.
Why assume that all teasers released (when not released on the official teaser time a week before release) have to do with the very next episode?
The Rytlock one might simply have been there to show us that we will get back to him at one point and that he will not just disappear (people were claiming that Rytlock fell into the hole because the voice actor had moved on for example (false)).
The same way they built the game before releasing it. The same way every other gaming company in the history of MMO’s has done this, it isn’t complicated. The fact of the matter is they are in better shape than most because they can still draw on the gem sales to draw income when most MMO companies do so purely from box sales. Don’t fool yourself there is no way this is an either or scenario in fact unless they chose to make it so, they are likely in better shape than most traditional MMO companies in that respect.
Many companies do both and yes if the LW content updates truly met the content volumes of a traditional expansion there would not be the cry for them to break away and put one out. That clearly has not been the case over the last two years and should they decide to stay the course they will fail to maintain the same level of profitability because at the end of the day many people will be tired of it and move on.
But what I quoted was someone talking about everyone stopping using the gem-store until we get and expansion. And THAT was what I was answering, since that would mean there would be more or less no income.
And no, “most” MMO does not gain their main income from box-sales, they get it from subscriptions.
Precursor scavenger hunt: People got mad… But not because it was dropped, rather because it got dropped and then they refused to give us any information for over a year…
The problem is still a lack of communication.
Except that they did give us information.
They said they were working on it. After some time they told us that they were changing it towards precursor crafting instead and that it was planned before the end of the year.
Before the end of the year they updated us and told us that it would not be done by the end of the year due changes to the reward system.
This is not the point.
I am a grown and educated person. Why am i getting punished for what other people did ?
And yet based on your posting history you seem to be one of those raging about every little change that does not follow the exact original plan.
People are not being punished. They don’t HAVE to tell us anything at all. Simple as that. They CHOOSE to tell us some stuff back in the days. Which only lead to rage and spamming on the forums, which lead to them CHOOSING to stop telling us the plans in order to try and avoid those things in the future.
I agree with OP, we are just too in the dark here. They tell us nothing, other developers would provide the gamers with a vision and direction they want to take, not here. It’s so kitten frustrating.
They did that before and a while after release.
Guess what happened every single time something was slightly changed or dropped?
Then you should probably send her a PM rather than posting a thread about it.
