Talking about test :
Tanky DPS team fighter
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQJArdnUMAFRgdOAGYCcYiFJATYBEAOhDfgJQK0Nx+YzsA-T5AFAB/XG4+9HA4BAAAPro
- a tanky dps ele that dish out good sustained dmg + high burst potential ( depending on target ofc)
- Very mobile with multiple access to superspeed-teleports/swiftness ( air overaload+ blast)
- Can apply aoe weakness quite easily
- Great CC potential : knockdown/daze/pullCons
-Condi bombs as you’d expect
-Suitable for 2vs1 or teamfights, not really a 1vs1 prodigy in general-Why earth shield conjure?
Magnetic shield, unblockable aoe pull and Magnetic surge , a short CD aoe daze and ofc another source of invulnerability with Fortify
Think you should take the trait that give you stab instead of might on shout since you only slot 2 shout with very High cd.
I personaly don’t like air shout in pvp, maybe in wvw could be better, so I would prefere take the water shout for damage reduction.
That said I like the build, I can’t see wich amulet you slot in the link. I use it with mender, sunsless runes (AoE fear=AoE damage) or surging, and blood leeching sigils
As marauder Ele Sf fresh air you are still squishy even with earth trait line. So I think you can archieve better result go yolo fire air arcane with same utility and try to do the thief job… So decap far (mobility thanks by fgs), +1 fights and kill low health target. You can’t kill any decent player using hot specs in 1v1 since they can survive at your burst and heal it back.
So It’s just better go for more damage, with fire trait line at least you have Phoenix ready every time you swap to fire.
This build was an High skill floor builds with an High risk and a okish reward. Now the reward is really low even if you play it perfectly. And the risk is become higher.
Was really fun time ago… Now is just late to play it. You can have some fun vs newbie in unranked but ftw in ranked you are just crippling yourself and your team since you could archieve way better reward playing hot specs while putting less effort

Here’s a video I found to highlight what I’m talking about.
It’s short but you can notice what i’m talking about.
You can do it easy without any macro, just a bit of training lol
9 button presses with a few of them instantaneously hitting 2 or more at a time that fast in regular unranked games…..lol
Well I’m used to do it with scepter focus and only One arcane skill so for me they are only 5 skills… But again if you get trained for it Yes, you can do it close to istant everytime you are off cd to do it. I do with 5 skills, so 5 buttons.
I mean, if you play a burst build like Ele fresh air the most important thing to learn is how to do your burst so would be strange for me if someone that play burst Ele can’t do it with that speed.
Then ok, for sure there are people using Marcos, or at least there were people using them, but most of the people can do combo of 5+ skills without.
Here’s a video I found to highlight what I’m talking about.

Hi, I’m Octaslash
I have a question about “pushing all my buttons at once?” Do you always get the same and desired results? I know that when I accidentally push more than 1 key at once it almost always ruins my progression. I also notice that I do not get more than 1 action at the same time, so I have to question how valid it is to say “I can push all my buttons at once” and get both the same and desirable results. I agree with the op, I have had encounters in spvp where I was hit and burst down to almost no health before I could phase retreat or stealth. So, is it possible for people to either use and therefore abuse macros? I think the possibility exists because people are prone to take the path of least resistance, and that leads some to cheating by variegated methods.
With a good keybind set and a mouse with lateral buttons, with some pratice you can for example land the burst of FA Ele (scepter) always in the same way.
I mean, Phoenix + lighing flash + swap air + arcane blast + air 2.
It can still 100-0 a mesmer and is not really difficult to do it when you got some muscolar memory.
9/10 times I do it perfectly without any macro, never used One.
Maybe sometime you are not lucky with crits, or the target maybe random Dodge or predict it, but thats not the point I think.
To be clear, when I was using SF Ele, for example I had:
Phoenix in that button between right and left mouse button (don’t know the english name for it)
Lighing flash on lateral mouse button
Air swap on lateral mouse button
Aracane blast on shift
Skill 2 on default button.

No thanks, I’m waiting a sword since the First expansion was annunced
I’m still waiting for a trait in corruption line that make torment does always full damage only in pve.
Thanks bb
Is there still something left to nerf?
Shatterstone and flamestrike
Ele has the same problem necro has: great at organized team play, not so fun at solo q. Anet needs to find a way to create alternate specs for solo q play (dps ele, power nec) without buffing the meta specs.
In Ele subforum we suggested tons of thing to buff dps Ele without buff metahealingbot.. they added 1 stack of vulnerability to shatterstone and gave us the new powerfull flamestrike
Be happy that at least they know that sf fresh air Ele exist.
The only real combo is lighing flash- phoenix- swap air- air2- arcana blast (if you slot it).
Then It’s really important to know other classes for use you other skills on the right moment.
If you are running earth trait you can try to use earth signet, the immobilize from it is usually better than the knock down to land dragon thoot.
As other people said, your main defensive mechanics come from superspeed for kite people.
You can also bind a button for Watch behinde you to make easier kite+attack/use defensive skills
I always think that can use skills while be invulnerable is a cheesy mechanics and should not exist.
I don’t think you should swap to air after meteor shower since you lose on it the +150 power from minor trait and the +10%damage from the master trait.
SHATTERSTONE is godly as is, pls don’t ask for buffs kthxbai
Lol that signature
To be honest for One time I would love huge buff of scepter, and I mean like blocks on earth 2,
huge buff to all the AA out of air that I think is fine.
Water 3 remove 1 or 2 condition by default.
Shatterstone 22% damage buff LOL and radius increased.
Dragon thoot cast and after cast reduced a lot.
Earth 3 also push enemies.
Focus fire 5 do something else that only a fire aura.
Focus water 4 be a “frozen retreat” working like the One from staff fire 4.
Making air AA proc signet of restoration 3 times, one for each stage.
And even with these change scepter dps will be not viable since the nature of the elementalist (there isn’t any good amulet for us) and other dps classes provide more to the team.
So It’s Pretty useless ask for little buff for scepter since it need very HUGE buffs.
But again, you will only see trash buff for Ele scepter.
Wash the nerf away
This is absurd.
1) Did devs listened to the community in regards of ele changes/rework? No.
2) Im quite happy that bunker meta will have to go, but step by step – by ruining a class and removing it from pvp scene for 2-3 months is NOT a good “stepping”.
3) Expansion came out more then 8 months ago, not enough time to balance classes or atleast keep every class by being not totaly useless? I know a few games, that have had a new heroe coming out every 2-3 weeks and still the balance was quite on the level.
4) Our ele subsection of forums contains a lot of decent suggestions, did any of them got considered by devs? Not really. And a quick question – What is your post all about? Are you considering that spvp is balanced or semibalanced at the moment? If there are a lot of posts about how unbalanced the game mode is atm, then it is a sign, dont you think? Do you really think that by creating such post all of players that are trying to say that spvp is not ok atm are going to stop writing or what?
You stole the words from my mouth
This is a question for PVP/Balancing team.
What is the difference between Ancestral Grace (1200 range, heal, blast finisher, evade, damage) and Ride the Lightning (1200 range, damage) that one is on 12s CD and the other 40s.
Care to share the wisdom behind it?
Ancestral Grace is a druid skill and is balanced around the rest of the druid.
Ride the Lightning is an ele skill and is balanced around the rest of ele skills.
You can argue against the balance of these classes if you want (and that’s a valid argument right now), but trying to make an apples-to-apples comparison of similar skills across classes never makes sense. Class balance in video games 101.
The problem is that RTL is not balanced around the rest of Ele skills. Was made as it is because it game breaking the Spirit Watch’s orb mechanics.
This was the reason of his cd and his penality if used as a mobility tool.
AG’s CD is way too short, but so are most HoT CDs. But consider also that RtL is cut in half when it hits a target.
Also, AG is a 15 second CD. Nobody runs the staff trait because Primal Echos is too good. Ele’s however can easily trait for reduced Air CDs because it’s the most useful trait of the three options.
You may have forgot that no one run air trait line since HoT. At least no one that doesn’t want to cripple his team.
RTL would be 100x better with a flat 20cd removimg the “on hit” cd reduction
Although ancestral grace is a tad bit powerful, the main difference is that elementalist have total of 20 options(overloads not included) while druids have 5. So you can use ride the lightning, swap attunements and use fire 3 and if you are too bored earth 3 (d/d). So the cd’s can never be same.
However druid’s horrible shout build should be balanced immediately.
ps: Ranger/druid main here.
Durid has 10 not 5, Yes you have a weapon swap… And for example you can use staff 3, swap to gs, and use the other mobility skill ( cant rember the name)
And doing this you have outrunned the elementalist.
“The cd’s can never be the same”
No one here is asking for make RTL 15sec cd… A 20sec would be enought, also removing the “on hit cd reduced”.
You all guys have to take in mind that Dagger off hand is a weapon that offer 0defensive tools out of the frost aura and the small evade on air 5.
Dagger was meant to be a mobility + damage tool. Now is bad as mobility tool.
But Yes we are maybe only cry babies, we should not ask for some revamp.
So for all the people here, you can still have fun with all the proiectiles hate from focus + invulnerabity.
Have fun
ARCANES

-Earth: cures WeaknessSHOUTS
Tempestuous Aria trait: Also reduces cool down on Shouts by 20%.
Well, these would be nice changes.
But hey, rtl has a nice animation
Arcane shield should block every attack for 3s. Then it explode. Still 60sec cd would be fine with this change.
The extra hits are somewhat weak though
Around 1.4k crit on heavy target
Adding tournaments and events will not ever solve the problem. You can’t force a scene to develop – it is something that DOES develop when the game is really fun to play and watch.
GW2 has grown less and less fun to play, and even harder to watch over time. There was a time when combat was much more clear than previously, and was based more on reaction to your opponents animations. This was why people asked for standard models, because dodging important animations from an asura was nearly impossible. With the power-creep of HoT, not only has the combat in general gotten less fun it grows more spammy and skill-rotation based, but classes have become much less diverse thanks to superiority of elite specs. Pre-HoT, the biggest problem with combat was the variety of powerful, passive procs leading to unavoidable bursts and skills that gave both offense AND defense simultaneously. HoT took these passives and dual-skills and cranked them up to 11, both making combat much less fun but also destroying builds that couldn’t utilize their elite spec’s forms of passives.
Totaly agree.
I would prefere 100x times to pay to play the game like it was 1 or 2 years ago than pay for another expansion pac.
Every balance patch they made just added more passive procs making the gameplay everytime less clean.
And it is not only a passive procs problem but there also too much AoE in this game.
HoT pushed on steroids both AoE and passives, not mention the crazy ammount of both condi aplication and cleans, damage output and mitigation.
So for me, the pvp in this game is died when HoT was released.
WTB a time’s machine to play the game as it was some years ago.
(edited by lucadiro.4519)
Never saw a 7 hit in 3 years. And this evening I tried a lot on golem target… Seems to me to work as always… If you put the center of the AoE behinde the target , but close to him, it hit 3 times, if you put the center far away from him (but it still need to be in the AoE) it hit 5 times.
It is meant to hit 3 times, 5 times is a bug that is here since tue start of the game.
Right by now, with all the damage mitigation around, place it to hit 5 times is the only way archieve a good burst.
(edited by lucadiro.4519)
I sometime use paladin for D/F or staff lighting rod builds. But most the time I run marauder since I like to be more bursty.
I don’t use soldier runes since I usually run 1 or max 2 shouts.
Superior runes of the sunless are nice if you use rebound, with lighing rod is an AoE fear + damage + weakness + poison.
As utility, earth shield IMO is mandatory for a LR build, and LF is mandatory for any Ele build. The third utility depends, I sawp it a lot.
For the third trait line it can be A/T/W or A/T/E, again it depend on enemy team comp.
For sigils I use impact and blood or air.
They nerfed ele through the ground because they simply want another flavor of the month. Gw2 balance patches have never been about balance, right now its ele’s turn to watch from the sidelines.
Just look at it, they nerfed eles DPS to where both Necros /thieves and engis can beat it on medium targets, yet we do not get close to their sustain.
They nerfed healing, and honestly we are already lowest hp/armor and exactly where did we get dmg mitigation like other classes?
I take it like you are talking about pve since you write dps on medium target.
In pve the nerf was needed, both dps and heals since we were top dps while we could heal a lot the party, provide might and bounce fury with heat sync. So too much support for the top dps build in game.
That said, I really think they did wrong, me and a lot of other players had would prefere a nerf in damage numbers (mostly on meteor shower) than on cooldwns, since now the gameplay of D/Wh isn’t that smooth and enjoyable.
But we still are One of the best dps classes in pve and the heal nerf doesn’t prevent us to support a lot while dpsing.
So say “they nerfed Ele throug the ground” is pretty an exageration if we talk about pve…. But It’s right if we talk about pvp, where they just destroyed any builds, out of maybe, magi and menders healbots
(edited by lucadiro.4519)
I saw my self soloq with dps Ele
I liked the time before cele was buffed in pvp and everyone was used to ask you to reroll another class!
Finally I can enjoy again it yay
Rip
15 chaarzooka
I’m ok with the removal of cleric.
I’m not ok with the susistain nerf they did to base healing, base susistain wasn’t a problem.
I’m not ok with the nerf at cd reduction… They could have Split it between pve/pvp
So they just destroyed any chance to play something else that isn’t healbot.
You said “no matter what power build I try” so I was assuming you also tried scrapper hammer.
If you are using power rifle core engie S/F just counter you. No way to win if you face good players in open field like Beach in forest of niflhel (You have to outplay too much) and low chance to win in a capture point.
You also said “Hopefully we’ll get something that works in future specs” and this is a no sense because you already got scrapper specialization that is what you need to kill a S/F Ele.
By the way, I was here just to offer you my help. That doesn’t seems welcome or appreciated since seems you doesn’t have the attitude to want learn something and yours is only a random QQ.
Have a nice day
Oh… they fixed it
Well, I will forgot about this skill just like the most of our utilities.
p.s.: you can predict Pretty much a lot of what a S/F will do just looking at his attunement. Try to focus more on that than animations.
P.p.s.: slot stealth gyro, it is a huge counter vs Fresh air since it has very poor cleave potential
(edited by lucadiro.4519)
I tried both new amulet. No way to make them viable, a thief or a rev can just burst you really easy.
But you can actually have some fun in the new map (since it is huge) with fresh air, inscription and the trait that give you fury and swiftness from aura.
Slot glyph heal skill + glyph of elementalist power and enjoy the perma boons + 4 breack stuns lol
I guess they buffed flamestrike instead because everyone was already expecting the usual 10% dmg buff to shatterstone, so they had to come up with something new. And in the current ladder of useless buffs to useless skills they created a new contender for the top spot.
Pretty sure they will buff 10% damage flamewall in the next update.
Can’t wait to reckt people with it!!!1!11!!11!
Hello, s/f Ele main here!
Usually power scrapper should get a win vs Ele Pretty easy if we talk about 1v1 on a capture point.
In open field it could be very hard, since they can outrun all your melee skills just swapping in air.
Here some tought:
- if your are using a block skill, be ready to Dodge/breack stun… If when you are blocking the Ele swap to air (or is already in air) be ready to breack stun/use invulnerabity.
If you are using a blocking skill and you see the Ele go into fire be ready to Dodge/use invulnerabity.
Your block skill has lower cd than both air stun and Phoenix, so you will still can block something else later.
-when Ele swap to earth and pop up rock barrier use your reflect skill. Also water auto can be reflected.
- try to use hammer 3 when Ele is both in water attunement or fire attunement. So with your evade you will prevent to be dazed or chilled from water, you will evade Phoenix ( or at least some hits if he land it perfectly) and you will prevent him to crit you and pop fresh air.
-stun with hammer 5 him while he is both in fire or water attunement, so you will Force him to use arcane shield to breack stun
-abuse of elixir gun #1 to cover him the more possibile with weakness. Weakness is a pain for a fresh air, that both cut his bursts and chance to proc fresh air.
-if he has arcane shield up, stop to chase him, drop some AoE and use ranged attack to breack it in a safe way
-if he pop invulnerabity try to LoS him, hide behinde some object etc etkittenill inv go away.
Again, if you are fighing in a capture point it shouldn’t be a problem since S/F better defense is to outrun melee skills.
Hope to been helpfull, good luck!
p.s.: if you are on EU message me in game and we will duel a bit, so I can see what you can improve in your gameplay vs us
Thanks really much for the time you took to write this.
I hope everyone will read this post, players and devs.
“I am not asking for Cleric/Celestial Amulet to be returned. I just want a decent non-bunker competitive-tier viable DPS build for Tempests to go along with the upcoming High-risk high-reward meta. We will certainly see people use Magi Amulets but there are many players who are sick of being healbots. Tempests should not be locked to a single viable boring healbot build.”
This is what the most of Ele players feel and think. We are tired to play healbot support build, we want a dps viable build, and are many years we ask for that.
This is what the most of the community doesn’t understand when see and elementalist’s main complain about balance.
I’m pretty sure the extent of their balance and pvp experience comes from those training class npcs in the mists. Nice dumb targets that won’t 1 shot you or burst too quickly.
This actually explain the change they made to scepter fire 1 lol
Im a guardian main and I can assure that that (at least on large targets) you guys still deal way more damage. I have tested different Guardian builds and even the highest dmg was about 6k dps lower than tempest staff on a large target.
The reason people think DH does more dmg than tempest now, is that the qt post patch dps video for Tempest was done with all buffs and with realistic buffs while the DH video was made only with unrealistic buffs.
But even in those videos you can see the tempest dps is still higher.
All buffs + Large hitbox.
Tempest Staff : 44,3k dps
DH Scepter/Torch: 35,4k dpslike i said realistic buffs arent shown on DH in the Video but I tested it myself and got these results.
Realistic Buffs + Large Hitbox.
DH Scepter/Torch with Radiance and Virutes (the dmg will be way lower in an actual encounter as you cant keep the 20% dmg modifier you get for aegis and the 11% damage modifier you get for the 11 different boons) : 26,6k dps
DH Scepter/Torch with Radiance and Zeal (more realistic dmg) : 24,1k dps
Tempest Staff : 32,1k dps
So even though DH has good damage and still brings good defensive buffs you guys dont need to worry about us taking your spot as the #1 damage dealer.
Your dmg ist still far superior.
Edit: On small hitboxes Hammer dps is better than scepter but with 23,1k dps is still lower than Tempest Fresh Air.
Thanks really much for the info. Your numbers seems accurate and right.
Right by now seems DH is also stronger than staff tempest.
So vs large hit box we are #2
Vs small we are #4
Waiting for more accurate test to link here.
the old meta with mender amulet ? i used it sometimes and it seemed to me not bad… obviuously it is a little different gamestyle from cleric. …
Right by now (if they don’t fix it) IMO is way better run old metà with sage+glyph of elementalist power.
Heya everyone!
I’ve already made new dps tests and overall the Ele has lost ~10% damage as both, Staff and DW Ele. Ele still remains the top of the top against large hitboxes but has been kicked from the throne against small hitboxes.
Those are the realistic (2 stacks gotl, no empowerment, no necro, no rev, 8% and 6+4% food) dps numbers for the highest dpsers right now:
Staff Ele, large hitbox: 28.0k / 33.6k with Alacrity (-9.5% dmg after patch)
DW Ele, small hitbox: 23.6k / 26.0k with Alacrity (-10.1% dmg after patch)
Condi Engi: 25.5k / 28.4k with Alacrity (+2.9% dmg after patch)
Power Engi: 25.8k / 27.2k with Alacrity (a bit more than +0% dmg after patch)
Power Thief: 26.2k / 26.4k with Alacrity(-3.1% dmg after patch)
- Don’t forget that Air Overload still grants 5 allies a damage skill, resulting into ~150-200 dps per target. So you can add ~600-800 dps to the DW Ele.
- If you play with a Rev (usually small hitboxes) you can add ~4.5% to all these professions except for Condi Engi, there it’s rather around ~1%.
- I didn’t yet test condi Thief, may be a thing due to the recent buffs.
- Condi Necro requires 270-400s of combat to summon enough Minions to reach the 26k dps mark and the same time again to make up for the until then not dealt dps. However this variies greatly depending on Alacrity and most of all Epidemic.
Greez!
Thanks for the informations you shared with us about your test. Btw seems thieves will Pretty replace D/Wh eles. And this make me sad because was the only way I really loved to play it.
Also funny that D/Wh has been nerfed more than staff. GG Anet.
Lol used it in some matchs… It’s really good. Hope they will left it as it is now
Well I like much the new outfit but Yes I would like more amor skins instead, because I like personalization
Karl is died both to svanir and chieftain playing tempest.
He develop the elementalist class.
People still had hope about balance patch.
Lol
So basically, if you play pvp you hate this patch, if you play pve you’re fine with it. I think that’s the trend I’m seeing.
I wasn’t even playing Ele in pvp since hot, that beacause I don’t like play healbot.
So I randomly play some dps builds (fresh air arcane, fresh air tempest, d/f lighing rod) that got all nerfed only because metà build.
So Yes I hate this patch because pvp.
I always had hate to play staff tempest in pve so out of some raid bosses (gorseval, xera) I always tried to play mostly D/Wh fresh air.
That not only got nerfed (I could have accepted a little nerf in numbers since I say a lot of time before the patch that tempest in pve needed to be nerfed) but they just ruined the kittening gameplay.
So I also hate this patch cuz pve.
Out of this I love all the changes I saw they made to fractals, didn’t played much btw, and I love the fact I can queue from everything.
So for this I love the patch.
Do I am in the trend? Lol
