I’d recommend using the re-roll build for large group support WvW.
Joined a group a little while ago. Newbie who wanted to go through Arah p1 without rushing through everything, thought I’d join because why the hell not. Everything up to ooze had been cleared (maybe they soloed or the party rq?), and then we killed the ooze. Tried killing the champions but it just wasn’t happening so after they wiped i just went ooc and ignored them. People tried running to entities, the newbie couldn’t make it so I helped them clear the four risen elites near the ooze (2x hunter, 1x ele, 1x mage, ez pz). We did entities, we did tar. Did Lupicus, they died so I ended up soloing phase 3 on my smegsmer. Cleared the whole path of risen elites afterwards up to the drakes/gorillas/spiders (ran through those), didn’t bother with korga, killed the jotun.
1. no boss was stacked besides tar
2. no bosses were melted in seconds
3. no questions asked about builds/gear
4. one person got a little annoyed nobody admitted to being new but we told them it was a no req group so it’s not fair to be berating people for that and they have to play content to learn it
5. it was no 3 hour marathon, ooze, tar, lupicus, jotun all done on first attempt, I had to reset entities once because they died and I had 0 dps because my class sucked and phantasms didn’t work, there was no constant waiting for people to make skips really either.
And guess what:
The group filled up pretty darn quick.
So if you actually make any sort of effort, you can get a no gear check, no stack, no experience requirement group. If you’re all new, you should probably expect a lot of pain depending on the dungeon, but most likely you’ll get a decent player joining who doesn’t want to see the party fail.
Just wanted to throw this out there – I know groups like these exist but I’ve never joined them, and it was actually an interesting change of pace clearing some of the mobs, though not something I’d get in to a habit of.
You’re better off just taking force/night or force/slaying.
oh really, 10% unconditionally is better than possibly 10% or less? now you just blew my mind.
now lets assume im not kittened, am aware of this and im looking into what sigils i could put on a
general purpose weapon
as i wrote, which you surely read. making 1289379 different asc weapons is definitely not an option and who actually bothers changing sigils for every single thing they do. if youre talking about just putting night on for everything and ignoring half the game being daytime then i dont even know how thats related to my questions?
Force/strength, force/frailty, force/slaying [of daytime dungeon you do the most], force/battle, force/energy.
Force/energy is a great catch-all for everything, force/battle or force/strength is nice too if you don’t feel you need the extra dodge.
the only way to break DPS depending groups is by making dungeons depend on conditions, places where regular damage simply doesn’t work and where conditions are the only dmg dealers.
But conditions do DPS. The problem is, it caps at around ~7,000.
or what about a dungeon where DPS simply has no use, you need to gear on defense and dmg avoidance, regen if needed.
That sounds absolutely atrocious – it would be full of running around in circles waiting for time gates.
DPS is bad because some professions lack the so called “meta DPS”, conditions and boons on the other hand is one thing every single profession has plenty of and is somewhat equal on power.
Mesmer lacks reliable condition application, thieves can only apply bleeds and poison, elementalists are weak on condition application, guardians can only apply burning. A warrior can cap bleeds, have full burning uptime and full uptime on 4 stacks of torment – no other profession besides engineer is close to this level of condition application.
You’re better off just taking force/night or force/slaying.
I agree, I went to pug this path today and there was a zerker elitist who kept insisting we stacked. The spider queen then used her poison and while I was out of the stack ranging with my longbow they all died and I had to carry them. Please ANet, it’s causing the community to become quite toxic when you have these zerkers who can’t break the stacking mentality.
If they got rid of berserker and assassin stats we would all literally just bandwagon on to the third highest DPS stat combination(s). Whether this meant zealots, valkyrie, zealot/valk mix, celestial or whatever, we would just take the next highest DPS. Is it then diversity if we simply migrate to another stat?
Go take a glass cannon ele to dungeons. DPS gear isn’t a crutch at all, mobs just have to breathe on you and you explode.
Exactly this.
1. People complain support and control don’t matter
2. People tell them support and control do matter
3. People refuse to believe it because apparently they don’t actually want support and control at all and just want to complain rather than ask how you can support and control and then bring that to their groups
It’s like people enjoy complaining or something.
I can understand people preferring a specific build like zerker, but people not being open-minded that other builds can be just as effective in a party are simply annoying.
They’re not “just as effective” though. You don’t do the same amount of DPS as glass cannon, and a lot of support isn’t amplified by gear stats so you don’t even need to be using non-berserker stats. So – your build does less damage but does exactly the same support – how are they then equally as effective?
Lilith, halp! I need help w/ my ele
Starfish hair, winged armor, anime face.
I’m kidding but I have lost all faith in the forums sorry I’ve been absent from my duties.
pm me?

Yes, they are underpowered.
All comes down to bad dungeon design and poor balancing. How bad are the dungeons is this game? Anet sacked their lead developer and dissolved their dungeon team after their AC revamp, sounds like we got our answer. Is there any hope for new dungeons in the future? Nope maybe they will raise fractal cap, but that would require zero effect.
How bad is the games skill balanced. The highest damage in game is FGS 4, which requires you to change your ingame options and not target your target. Sounds like a exploit to me. In a better game GW1, it would have been fixed once it became public (just like Sand Shards in gw1), but because it doesn’t effect pvp (that much) , it is ignored, and readily talked about.
The dungeons are fine. It’s just they’ve been around for two years which makes them stale and easy.
im so confused
i thought shoes just went from sizes 1 to 13
efficient =/= optimal
You don’t need ascended to be efficient.
The point is that you don’t need it, and you can clear content efficiently still in exotics.
Hence why it’s self-imposed grind, hence why I don’t see the point in crying about something you inflict on yourself. It’s like cutting your arm with a knife and blaming the knife for being sharp.
The stat difference between exotic and ascended is so negligible I’d still call it self imposed. I want to eke out every last bit of DPS for solos so I grind out ascended (= self imposed). It’s not “you can’t perform content without ascended” – hell you can still do fractals without it, you just can’t do higher levels, and 50s are basically the same as a fractal 1 besides mobs hitting harder, sometimes being more numerous and extra stuff on the loot tables.
There’s no content you’re barred from without ascended, the only thing you can’t do (and I suppose depending on the fractal you can dodge agony attacks) is a more challenging version of the same content you can perform without ascended.
Grind is not a problem in GW2, the problem is the mentality of the playerbase.
Grind in GW2 is aesthetic and self-imposed, so I don’t see where the problem is.
Stay delusional, not really my problem but one day you will realise the truth when you go do content that doesn’t allow to mindlessly sit back at 1500 range and spam 1 and see how far that will get you.
You show me that content in GW2 and I will reinstall this game right now. I’d love it if this game actually required skill.
Anything which isn’t open world meets the bill.
PvP, WvW, dungeons, fractals.
I still don’t disagree with that quote … you guys create the atmosphere … even encourage it. You knock down a wall, I threw a brick. You don’t take your refuge seriously, why should anyone else, including Anet either?
The purpose of my thread was not to create trouble, it was a legitimate query to ANet which ended up being locked because of derailment.
Stick in a composition with a ranger, EA warrior, guardian and then like phalanx warrior and engi to handle might/vuln. Then swap the EA warrior for a 30/25 warrior and the guardian for like a thief or something. Then take a look at the numbers for those two classes compared to ranger.
I’m pretty sure in GW1 speed clears, guilds used to just ball up all of the mobs and just burn them down.
First off maha you missed my point entirely. The meta is the meta because it is what Anet decided it should be. If they wanted the meta to be other than what it is, they would make different choices when encountering designs.
Robert Hrouda once said a long time ago I believe that if you’re unfamiliar with content you’ll want some defenses, but that (this is before offensive dps teams were even a thing) if you get good at it you can run a glass cannon spec. So yes, being able to clear content with glass cannons is intended. This is not a bad thing, it just means that as you learn the game you can perform content with less and less passive defenses and you’re not forced to take them.
The problem is.. that while they may have promised the Trinity of damage, Control, and Support…. somewhere along the line they DID provide the tools for them….Just Not the NEED for them.
Support is used when granting might, fury, aegis, protection, reflection, etc. and control is used with LoSing mobs, grouping them together, pushing them. DPS is DPS. I don’t think people realise how fully realised the anet pseudo-trinity is, it works every single time you do a dungeon.
(edited by maha.7902)
The big problem is, that the game rewards certain builds..Mostly DPS, while punishing others…Things like Damage over time builds.
Hardly. DoT builds can still clear content, they aren’t punished.
make it so Bosses are weak to damage over time effects but have MORE armor so that direct damage is less effective
Lupicus and the Bersekrer Abomination have ~3,450 armour. Most DPS calculations are created assuming a boss of 2,600 armour – heavier armour targets exist – but Berserker is still preferred. Make the armour too heavy and you just end up with a group taking four berserker players and then the warrior just switches to conditions since they’ll cap bleeds, burn and do some torment all single-handedly.
improve AI, so that they do not stack. Also…add a few More healers that are smart enough to not rush into the front line, Instead stay behind healing everyone else.
How do you “improve the AI so they do not stack”? Like, in a practical sense how do you code that? I’m actually curious. And there are healers in the game, they don’t rush, players just approach them.
Suddenly…. damage over time becomes something to consider. Suddenly… pure DPS builds become less prefered.
Nope.
Zerker or gtfo is the meta because Anet decided it was the meta by designing encounters as they are designed.
every every every every every every every every every

single game with combat in all of history has a meta that develops to the point that you take the lowest amount of defenses as possible and maximise your offence. Whether this means dropping a healer, having a DPS perform as off-tank rather than a fully dedicated one, or just maintaining trinity roles but having each player do with the bare minimum of defensively attributed gear possible, it happens. In Dragon Age you have tanks, healers, DPS. People soon realised if you just stacked mages you could absolutely obliterate everything in front of you – and mages could also spec in to healing (or just use healing potions). Since their DPS was so high you didn’t need a tank to hold aggro when you could just make everything explode with incredible speed.
I really don’t know. The play-how-you-want crowd are really hypocritical, because they’re getting mad at someone for playing how they want.
That’s not the problem at all. It’s when some of play how I tell you crowd act out, harrassing and kicking people. I don’t see play how you want people insulting players for wrong builds, etc…accusing them being selfish and wasting people’s time … or kicking people from teams.
No, instead you see them asking for berserker gear to be nerfed, removed, and a serving of angry condescension, with phrases like “monkey rolling”, “zerkids”, “exploiters”, “stack and press random keys” and the obligatory “elitist” when someone says something they disagree with, because you just can’t have arguments without ad hominems being thrown around on this forum.
Both sides are in the wrong, but don’t pretend that the “play how you want” crowd is in the clear here, because they’re absolutely not.
There are extremists on EACH side but one thing I do know is that if a person truly believes people should play how they want, they won’t tell someone they aren’t playing the right build, complain about what builds others use or kick someone for using a certain build. On the other hand … ALL of those things originated from play how I tell you people and are still being practiced to some degree. Why are ‘elitists’ hated? Well, this sort of explains itself doesn’kitten
So far the only person that I see that deserves respect is Obal because he simply presents information on how to maximize DPS. There is no name calling, labeling, riot act, threats … You guys could learn something from his approach.
Clearly my teaching of others and willingness to let people play what they want, while willing to show them alternatives if they are curious is not worthy of any sort of respect.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, threads like this rarely happen at all.
Threads of people playing badly or using suboptimal gear in gearcheck groups and getting booted are rampant though.
You can solo a full set of fractals at 49/50 if you get the ones that aren’t player-gated.
it’s not just fgs vomit, i like this record already
Around 7 hours. Took even longer after that for me to be able to solo him with any consistency.
Allot of people tend to react a little out of control. I am using full ascended Beserker on everything plus infusions. My god kitten longbow Barrage was dealing more damage to the grubs then the rifle warrior and two staff spamming guardians that outside of their Wall of Reflection didn’t contribute to the group at all when it comes to DPS. So much for all Zerker I guess.
Besides dropping a healing spring at my teammates who were hit by the shamans arrow doesn’t count for contributing to the party either right? I didn’t tell the whole story.
I don’t think I said anything about your gear. I was talking about utility. You can bring healing spring with a gs/axe-axe build and cleanse while at the same time actively preventing damage with whirling defense and cleave. Your focus on your zerker gear just confirms more that you are too focused on your 5k lb auto attacks rather than supporting your team. You stealth yourself during the grub phase and then take pride in being the last man standing ressing your team.
And anyway, “the rest of my team was crap” is not a good argument for “my build is good”.
In a time where Berserker is the only real way of progressing, then why I am getting hated for using what works at the scene? Because a guardian has access to wall of reflection does that give him a free pass even when the guy is clearly using Cleric’s armor just for the sake of better team contribution? So what I am not standing in range for spotter, or the frost spirit dies instantly wherever you spawn it at the fight. A warrior doesn’t get any flack for camping longbow dropping firefields.
The general conclusion really is that people hate seeing rangers use longbow. Period.
Since when did your team being bad become a valid excuse for not playing that well yourself? And if you really did have a rifle warrior and staff guards why did you even stay in the group? You not telling the whole story from the start of the thread just seems suspicious to me.
pug arah paths with ivan for 12 hours straight
lol
So, I’m gonna post this here, because I don’t trust anyone outside this subforum for PvE stuff:
I was watching Nike and Goku’s excellent off wall lupi solos the other day and noticed them camping greatsword, even though they were both on 65003 builds. This got me to thinking: What AA is better? GS or Axe? I know that 100b is baws, wwa is an awesome dodge skill, bladetrail hits twice, and if you can position it right, rush hits like a tank, but wouldn’t it be a better choice to do the dps rotations for axe/sword+gs vs camp gs?
Please don’t think that I’m in any way disrespecting these two players, and I’m not criticizing their solos in the slightest. I’m just curious as to their methods.
Think of it like this – you either sit on 20 stacks of might or you sit on 8 stacks if you sit on axe. Every single Greatsword skill is a dps increase over auto attack and they have such low cooldowns you can just spam them over and over again. It hardly even matters if you have to cancel a hundred blades because you just do it again 6 seconds later. It also means you have permanent access to the energy sigil proc and block from axe sword if you sit on gs.
i would be okay with that
it’s depressing but mesmer is literally complete garbage. for me, warrior is infinitely fun trying to get big numbers on my hundred babbies but ymmv
i’d say ele or necro from your classes would be decent choices.
i would recommend deleting your mesmer and soloing on your ele
I don’t think people realise how much time and effort is involved in teaching
So I did a hammer abom kill and it clocked in at 5:12. My GS kills have all been around the 2:50 – 3:20 mark.
Take from that what you will.
So, nowadays me and a guildie do practice runs in Arah constantly. Yesterday, I joined him a bit after he started. I arrived at the Abomination to see this.
a Mesmer doesn’t even need to stack guns for abom
For the record, play how you want refers to being able to do content of your choosing and still be rewarded for it, not that you should be able to run defensive builds and get dungeon clear times on par with glass cannons.
I have an ele, and was practicing around with it recently – craft leveled, did arah story, soloed p2 up to Brie like immediately afterwards, did some pugging with it. But of course, since nobody stalks what character I’m playing nobody notices when I’m on alts.
NOTE – IT IS STILL BAD
Don’t see the need for deep freeze.
What part of ‘this skill does quadruple the DPS of anything else’ sounds balanced? What elite in the game is even on a level close to that?
Glad you asked. Let’s use the wiki and compare the base damage. Equal buffs (food, might) will multiply these values equally
The Fiery Rush line ticks 80 damage, lasts 3 seconds, and consists of 12 patches. Multiplying these numbers gives 2880 damage.
The Bear Form Charge hits multiple times for 609 damage, but the wiki doesn’t say how often it hits. If it hits at least 5 times, it actually outdamages Fiery Rush. Most movement skills hit bosses 4 times, but I personally haven’t tried Charge yet. I’d call that “close to” fgs.
Bonus: 100b+Whirlwind Attack deals 3066 damage on the same cooldown as Fiery Rush (these CDs can be reduced by traits). That’s also “close to” fgs.
As you see, all FGS really does is provide warrior-esque DPS for the ele and a second player (oh, now I see why FGS should be nerfed). So stop claiming that it does quadruple damage of anything else in the game.
Warrior-esque DPS ahahahaha.
Watch the rT 7.2s Lupicus kill, divide his hp (1,450,000) by the time spent, you’ll get 201,388.889. Divide by the number of party members and you get 40,277. So stick on max buffs and you can output a DPS of 40,277 with fiery greatsword on a heavy armour target. Now do it on medium and light armour targets – you’ll do like 60,000 DPS.
Compare this to a 30/25/0/0/15 warrior which has a DPS of 12,214.
So lets see – ~800 less DPS in return for quadruple the vulnerability stacking.
I know which one I’d take.
“No better” as in they’re equally as dull. Actually no, warriors actually had to interact with mechanics so I guess it was actually even better before.
You listed a bunch of things besides fiery Greatsword that other classes can do without being super squishy at the same time. So I’m still not seeing how a completely replaceable class is tier 1.
Let me get this straight because I’m confused, you want to nerf FGS because is does a lot damage? now do you know FGS is an ELITE skill right? and to be honest from all the games I’ve play in 16 years, this is the first time I seen someone complaining about killing mobs too fast. Just hilarious!
What part of ‘this skill does quadruple the DPS of anything else’ sounds balanced? What elite in the game is even on a level close to that?
