Those wooden pillars are not flag poles. Even if it is a an existing skin copied from elsewhere (what it isn’t), that doesnt say anything bout the size.
that is like calling rytlock small based on the size of his miniature.I’m seeing a lot of other elements that also counter your imagined measurements. like the way the arched doorway is constructed. with your measures it is just a small door. also the cloths bringing shade for the audiances. They exist in game and are huge.
tl;dr: nothing going on here…move along.
Just mark my words, this arena size is to small to perform 15v15 or even 5v5 in there because you can simply static the other side… Minimum size should be higher then LF+static distance.
I respect your opinion.
No you don’t. You don’t respect my opinion. I’m not native english. So I might take things too literally.. But you say “mark my words” I know it is an expression, but it means that you want me to remember what you said. what other reason would you have is that if you are right and the true size is to small, you can say “I told you so”. That intention isn’t respectfull.
The true situation here is that you put down an opinion based on wrong facts (I’m sorry, but they have been debunked". We don’t know the size of the arena and at this current moment in time you where wrong (or atleast too early to tell)
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
A non profit organization that exists to help a certain kind of people most of the time(prosecuted, poor, homeless, stupif, disabled etc etc) does not produce games to stay afloat, they receive donations big and small from companies, regular people and philantrophes.
I think nobody contests the love the designer had when making it too. Beside the helmet, I think it is fitting for a third birthday. I just contest the idea that people have to scream hoorray! for every present they get.
I don’t know what to say. If you think that a gift from Goodyear or Walmart or the small business who wants you to shop there more often is the same as your parents giving you something then you’re going to have an interesting life.
Well I see no point in myself continuing this as you still refuse to focus on the semantics of the examples rather than the argument itself resulting in this going nowhere. If you truly believe that no company would freely bestow a gesture to its customers without some selfish motive then that’s your prerogative. If you truly believe that it’s acceptable to criticize someone for having an agenda for giving you a gift, or to criticize the gift itself, then that’s on you.
I got a philosophic reasoning. first off. Sorry for it getting a lot “dreamy”, I’m not native english speaking and have sometimes issue expressing my complex thoughts in a language I dont speak fluid. But back to my reasoning: “all actions done by humans are being based on selfish motives”. There is no difference between a big corperation or Mother Theresa. In essence it is selfish
I’ve been volunteering for pink day in LA for the last few years. I do it out of selfish motives. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I love being the center of attention during that event and I love to be part of the mutual feeling of doing something great and not only being part of it, but being a thriving force behind it. That may sound shocking, but it doesnt change the fact that pink day in LA is a very good course, helping fight breastcancer around the world and helping to find a cure to a very bad dissease. So some people might say that im a great guy for putting effort in pink day in LA, others might call me a selfish kitten, all while I’m the same guy.
So selfish motives are everywhere. wether they are bad or good are opinions. There is an opinion that the world revolve around bad or good people. But in essence we all do what we think is best. Nobody is waiting to be judged as bad just for a single comment on a forum.
that is why I don’t judge you. just as I don’t judge Arenanet.
I like that they want to thank us. All I do is having feedback bout the way they express that and give them advice how that can be improved.
Arenanet is a company. They do things like giving us this with sincere reasons. They like us cause it is paying their bills. They have very good employee’s and they make a living of giving us a very good way to relax. So we help each other.
I just hope my feedback is welcome at Arenanet. And for you. all I hope you leave your personal emotions behind and try to imagine you would dislike the costume and imagine how you would think bout my feedback then.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I’ll be honest..
I think the way GW2 is approaching raids is a good and in an interesting way. But it is instanced. GW2 (and many other games) pretend to be an MMO (a massive multiplayer online game), but the endgame keeps revolving around instanced content.
It is obvious that it is a community wish, but why?
Is it time to change the term, cause the definition doesnt fit it anymore?
I think that “ipwpylane” is a better term. (it stands for “instanced play with people you like and nobody else”). It is what all endgame revolves around in all games in the genre.
GW2 is proud of a social community. And I give them credit for having a game that brings the best of us out. But no game ever has been a true MMO.
on that point GW2 has failed as well it seems.
Enough rant bout how human nature works but back on topic.
Why would you want guild only (aka instanced) maps. Why do you want to be “just” with guildies? what is wrong with other players? are they really that bad? or does your guild has some pricks as well? why do you forgive them and not complete strangers?
Why is it impossible to have a true MMO?
I know these questions are harsh, but they have been troubling my mind a lot lately. I got nothing against guild only maps. But why do you want me (and a lot of others) out of “your” instance??
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
(edited by mercury ranique.2170)
So you want some “free” HoM skins? I can’t see this happening, as the HoM skins are the hook to get people to buy GW1. ANet are a business, they want your money. That’s why the game is heavily restricted in F2P. ANet want those people to buy the game. The same reason we get “free” updates. They want us to keep playing, if we are playing we might buy gems. If we buy gems once the are we would buy them again. As much as I think the people at ANet are good people, it’s still a business, and they want our money. They are not doing things because they are nice people.
Wait u can get something for owning Guild wars 1 and the expansions?
I own them all but i never knew i could get something with that? what do they unlock and where to i enter the GW1 serial keys to unlock them?
You need to own atleast one GW1 campaign (there are three) and the eye of the north expansion.
You don’t enter GW1 serial keys, but you link the two accounts. This is done on this website (under “my account” on the top right corner). Keep in mind that ones linked you login to both games with the same password.
You can allready see the amount of rewards you have unlocked:
Go here https://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=welcome and enter a charactername on your GW1 account.
Keep in mind that the rewards are based on what you got on display in the hall of monuments in GW1. So you might be able to unlock a lot more just by going into GW1 and putting them on display (specially cause you might have a ton of miniatures from birthday presents)
Once linked you can get your GW1 rewards in the hall of monuments. but the skins are also added automatically to your wardrobe and require no transmutation charge (so you only need to go to the actual hall in GW2 for nostalgic reasons or to unlock the ranger pets.

— Imagine this scenario:
You have a child who receives a gift from his/her parents. That child then says that they do not like it and proceeds to list off numerous reasons why such as it looks like garbage, they want something else instead, and so on. The child’s parents did not have to give their child a gift in the first place.
How would you describe that child?
I would describe thatchild to be very honest to their parents. I would describe that parent as bad parents in the first place for not knowing what kind of gift your child would like or not. No I’m not talking bout what the value of the gift should be. But if you child hates pink and you give him/her pink socks, why should he be happy with it. A good parent knows what their kids would like for a gift.
So a kid expressing why they dislike the gift (giving feedback) is a very good thing!
I’m not saying that Arenanet should know what each and everyone should like.
I’m also not saying that I’m not happy and warm and fuzzy on the inside that they want to thank us.
I’m merely giving them feedback that giving something that has practical use is more likely to be appreciated by the recievers compared to a skin that is liked based on personal taste.
You can like that someone gives you something and still dislike the gift itself!

I bought my son his account at Chirstmas. He has his outfit. My daughter and I have been playing since Beta, and neither of us have ours. Strange.
They are sent out in batches and it can take up to a week for everyone to get theirs. Who is in what batches is random (or maybe not, but not something we can manipulate)
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Some have stated it’s alabetical by display name which means you and I will be waiting awhile.
No data has been collected to verify this statement.
Some people say the world is flat.
My accountname starts with an M and I had the outfit bout 90 minutes after the announcement. So I doubt they got to halfway the alphabet that quick. Just asume it is random and one gets it when he gets it is the best thing to do.

NVidia users seem to have often some issues .. else it works fine.
Most are due to a crappy driver. If you (someone reading this) have issues, just get an older windows 8.1. driver (which works fine on windows 10)
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Wow! People get a free something and then complain about it. If you don’t like the outfit then don’t wear it.
They could have gave us nothing at all.
We don’t really get it for free as we all payed for the game
My feedback is not bout being disgratefull. I’m happy they want to express they value us. I’m only giving feedback bout the gift and how the amount of gratitude it reflex depends on personal taste and therefor differ per person.

F2P players can get laurels trough AP rewards.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/95982157
No they can’t
You get laurels from the daily login chest. These are blocked for F2P
The daily tasks (that reward AP’s) don’t reward laurels.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
It seems like GW1 was a great game since it did not have to go F2P just to get people interested in it. Maybe Anet needs to invest some time into what made it successful and bring it over to GW2.
Actually… GW1 never had enough players to justify such a move. Numbers are not announced, but looking at how long it took GW1 to reach 1 million copies sold, and hearing GW2 has sold over 5 millions copies ion the first 3 years, I think you can say that GW1 actually never reached the 5 million copies at all
So it was not so succesfull as you think.
I loved both games, but what worked for GW1 will not work for GW2.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
The issue is that laurels can be turned into gold.
I have no objection for F2P to be able to get ascended gear.
I see two solutions though.
A: limit the things F2P can buy for laurels to those things that are accountbound
B: reward laurels to F2P, but lock the laurel trader all together for them (so they get the laurels, but they can’t use them).
The other rewards from daily chests hould be locked out for F2P alltogether. So instead of the chest, a daily reward of 1 laurel.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Why an outfit?
Besides the usual critics bout outfits. My main critique is that it gives a very specifick look. It is nice for those that can use the look, but for others, it has limited value. You will never wear it again.
I think it would have been nice to have something usefull instead. The game is all bout skins, so giving just one skin that is obivously is not going to be unique is not really cutting it. I would have opted for a loyal dolyak. It would function as a second miniature (that you can hide), but also as a 25! slot bag.
I think it would be something that everyone would welcome, has a cuteness level and is functional. As it is unique (there are no 25 slot bags) it is also a real reward.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
F2p players can enter WvW at level 60.
Edit, or to be more precise WvW unlocks on the account once the first character reaches 60.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/95982157-Account-types-Free-Core-HoTdoes that mean once your have a character with lvl 60 you can simply delete that character and transfer to any other server to spy in wvw ?
Yip, seems to be the case.
To be honest. I don’t think it will be a big issue, and if it will, they will handle it quickly. The core game has been as low priced as 10 bucks (january 2015 sale). So someone who wanted to do this, could have done that a long time ago relative cheap. As it currently isn’t an issue and as it still is a bannable offense where you risk your main account, I would not fear from it.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
The HoM skins will never be for free.
They have a value cause it requires you to play that game. the first few skins are relative easy, but soon it packs up a pace and requires you to play it a lot. You make it sound as if you just need to install GW1 to get them.
They where never a reward for owning GW1, but a reward for playing GW1. As that has nothing to do with the price of the game, I think GW1 going for free would be a positive thing.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Thanks for your help mercury! I have actually just brought it, however if the servers are on a bad side and i get to 250-400 ping i can take advantage of the refund 30 day policy. I’m sure it will be alright i’m just crossing my fingers.
Also, if it goes free to play, they likely will have a refund program for those who just purchased. But you likely have purchased GW2 Hearts of Thorns, the core game comes free with that expansion package.
For competitive gameplay that is likely going to be a must have. It gives access to a new sPvP map and a new borderland in WvW.
It also gives access to specialisations (new weapon types for classes and new skills and traits). So likely a must have for competitive PvP anyways.
(btw. HoT is a prepurchase, these things are not in the game yet. It will be at october 23)
EDIT: Forgot to mention the most important part. Welcome to Tyria!! :P
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Pings are not really measured . But GW2 and before it GW1 has been known to do a very well job in limiting data between server and client.
I’ve not heard bout real problems caused by latency in PvP. Mostly cause the most competitive PvP plays in small arena’s 5vs5 (so the amount of date that needs to be transferred is rather low). World vs World does have some issues due to graphical lag (the amount of people on your screen, performing actions is so high your GPU/CPU got issues rendering it and starts skipping frames, so it ends up in a slideshow), but that is not as competitive as sPvP anyways and can be solved by turning down settings a lot.
I also not heard of oceanic people reporting very much latency at all.
I do suggest waiting a lil bit before buying the game though. tonight 7,5 hours from now) is a big announcement and there are some indications that the game will turn free to play instead of buy to play.
If thats not the case they likely introduce a trial system where you can play for free a certain period. That would be great for you to test it out on your own.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Hi, I bought the standard edition for HoT and I was wondering if i could upgrade it to ultimate without having to buy another full copy of the expansion? If so, how do I do it?
No, it is impossible to upgrade.
The refund policy on HoT is currently unknown, but they are bound to have one. There are two possibilities. I would ask support bout this refund policy and if it is possible to get a refund on your purchase so you can then buy ultimate. Make sure you explain your full intentions (so also the buying the ultimate edition part). For the core game, it is possible to get a refund, but you get blocked out to re-purchase it again. I’m not sure how that would work on GW2 HoT, but it is good to ask them what is possible.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Your saying that you can’t control yourself and are typing things you regret later? although I’m happy with your common sense to regret it later, I don’t think Arenanet has to deliver the solution for you. The true solution is self control to type it out.
I don’t PvP, but I do PvE.
Yesterday it was kessex hills event completion day. After all these months I would have expected that at the queen spider people know to destroy the coccons and avoid the red circles. But 45% died on the red circles all the time, another 45% was rezzing them and the other 10% was trying to dps the spider queen, who healed herself on the neglected coccon’s. So outloud in my living room I ranted and used some strong powerterms which I will not repeat here (although it would type out like -kitten- -kitten -kitten- kitten- anyways) In chat I just typed “pls destroy coccon’s guys”
They started to do that and the queen was dead 15 seconds later.
Bottom line, if you want to express anger, do it out loud in your room or write it down on a piece of paper. never in chat!

not much info is known. Arenanet only ever released one expansion ever. That was Eye of the North. There people had a sneak peak weekend bout 4 days before launch (but not till launch). That however was more the equivalent of the BWE’s I don’t think there will be a headstart. only GW2 core game had that and it was announced as a pre-order bonus.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
What do I need to catch up on?
Surprisingly little. Although Silverwastes is fun, you didn’t miss much else.
Actually, there is a lot more people don’t realise. The game has changed a lot. And it is that what the OP is asking.
My advice is to first login with all your characters ones and give it time to finish “pinging”. You’ll see what I mean when you do.
This will add all your skins to your wardrobe as well that it will gather all the money and other (now) account bound resource on the characters and put it in the accountwide wallet. You also get a change to collect all your birthday gifts.. Also make sure you add all miniatures and finishers to your wardrobe too (this has to be done manually by double clicking them). Karma is now accountbound and the boosters no longer work for containers. So feel free to open all karma containers you have collected.
Also check your gear. If you where using magic find gear, this is no longer available. That type of gear needs to be un-equipped, doubleclicked to select new stats and re-equipped.
Further you should realize all your builds are mostly reset to defaults and would have been useless anyways. The entire system has been changed and overhauled.
So you should also relearn the game. So I would strongly suggest to roll a new character and play through. Use one of the many birthday scrolls to get to level 20 instantly for a headstart (or if any toon had a third birthday yet, use the scroll to get to level 30 instantly). You might be able to use tomes, don’t do that all at once. Try to do the new designed personal story, the new player experience and completion of atleast one map and one town (I recommend lion’s Arch, cause it is totally overhauled).
After that you should know the basics of the current day game. Now start reading into the new builds. You can decide to level up the newly created character or pick up one of your old characters.
Most off all, I would advice to join a guild (if you are not still in one that is active). It really helps to ask questions when they pop up.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I’ve seen weddings in other games. I personally think it is degenerating against marriage. To me a marriage (where two people declare to love each other for eternity) is something that is an import part of our society and an important institution.
In those games it degenerates to where people get married just to get that certain buff.
So feel free to declare your love to your loved one in game. Throw a party, invite your friends (And if you are handing out free drinks, invite me too!!) and make an awesome party. Just no buffs.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
GW1 and GW2 are very different games, and outside the HoM score (which was in essence just a marketing tool to keep us busy while waiting for GW2) nothing is linked or will be. The reason is that they are very different games.
Wether GW2 is for the better or not is for your own judgement to decide. Mine is that it is a better game as GW1. don’t get me wrong, GW1 was great, but it was a wannabe MMO. You where depending on pugs, heroes or guilds to do any content. What I love bout GW2 is the random open world encounters. Just like in here, where we are exchanging thoughts bout what we like (or dislike). In GW1 I had to go to a town and talk jsut to bored people. Just today I was in Kessex hills and someone asked bout the wizzards tower and how to get in. Me (and someone else) explained how it was one of the first things they designed for GW1, but whatever plans they had for it where abanded (if any). the other guy expressed how he wants to get in and I expressed that I would not like it if they would ever open it. It is a memory of the early starts of the game and it is an awesome mystery. Opening it up for visitors would mean it is no longer a mystery. We had a good (though short) talk while being total strangers. In GW1 it would never happen. By the time someone got back to LA (or temple of the ages) he would have forgotten to talk bout that tower in public and it would also sound akward.
GW2 is share the same name and continent and background story with GW1, but it is a totally different game. Changing that and bringing them together would damage both populations.

To early release. With all the specs, unfinished, Druid still not revelead (as engineer spec), verdant brink maps (+ the other secret one) barely tested. Raids not tested (clearly not included in HoT), I think the release was pushed to soon. 2 months is not enough to fix all the issues and finsih the new specs and revenant. Take an example of The Witcher 3. They had courage to postpone twice, but people are now gratefull with an amazing game. They already forgot it was pushed twice, cause it’s GOOD. It has bugs, but overall reviews agree they are minimal (means the big bugs for such large scale game, all have been quelled pretty well).
Take an example. Thanks.
Unfinished, doesn’t mean untested. Also they dont need to show everything in beta to test it. 95% of the testing is done by the Q&A team. The BWE is mostly to see how new systems and idea’s work with a large audiance and to see how less seasoned players (Q&A testers are considered very seasoned players cause they do it for a job), experience difficulty of mobs, events and progression.
For this you only need a small portion.
Also the specialisations. They are all known and being tested by them. A reveal is not equal to the actual thing.
I personally hate those company’s (like the people behind the witcher) that promise to release round a certain date and have to postpone it. It means they have not a real clue what they are doing. Arenanet is better (nowadays) and only announce that they are actually working on something when they know they will release it one day (HoT was being developped way before the announcement). They only tell us that they can release it somewhere this year when they are certain about it and tell us a date when they know they can deliver then. Much better as not having a clue and having to delay it three times!
GW2 core game was done that way. There where some bugs (mostly with the tradepost, and the old one has been clunky all along, only since they used a different embedded browser it got better, so it was a deep problem). So The fact that they are still revealing plans and are not delaying all the time has nothing to do with the quality.

HoT : what do recieve core classes ?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
There is no difference between a core class and a specialisation. They allready said that core is a specialisation.
the amount of skills you can use doesn’t change.
the amount of traits you can use doesn’t change.
So with the specialisation you only gain more options. but thats it.
On top of that it comes with a handicap.
for example. let’s say you like the warhorn on the warrior. But that means you need the berserker traitline as well. Without that traitline, no warrior. Even if you have no use at all for those traits.

Still . . . are all the maps and content going to be tested before this release date? I’m my understanding that the last tests only included around 25% or one map.
I know people are bored and unhappy with little to do, but I’d still rather wait for finished and polished product than an unfinished and bugged one. Hope this doesn’t go The Sims 4 route of releasing the rest of the product later.
That wasn’t pretty. And if that’s the case, ANet better hire a lot more moderators and fire extinguishers for this forums.
Nope,
During BWE’s for GW2 core release, they didnt test all the maps either.
I remember they did a 30 minute preview of ebonhawk. So thats how I remember. I don’t really recall how much map they uncovered during that.
Point is that they dont need to test all maps. they want to test concepts. Once you got it right in one map, you get it right in all maps. They also don’t want to spill all the beans

First make sure you got the right version of HoT. Only the ultimate version comes with the 4000 gems.
From the hoT prepurchase facts:
"
I completed my pre-purchase, but I don’t see my title or items in-game! How do I get them?
If you pre-purchased via buy.guildwars2.com or one of our official retail partners, make sure you’ve applied your pre-purchase serial code to your account before logging in. If you pre-purchased in-game, your account will be upgraded the next time you log in to Guild Wars 2.
Once your account is upgraded, you should see your title immediately in the Achievements section of the Hero Panel (default hotkey “H”). Within a few hours, you’ll get an in-game mail message with any bonus items included in the edition you purchased. Gem delivery may take up to 72 hours after purchase.

I would like to give some feedback bout the post though. This anniversary sale and most other sales are planned ahead. I’m not into Arenanet’s policies, but normally these things are planned roughly 1-2 months ahead of time. So it is extremely unlikely they will listen to you if they haven’t planned it.
So my feedback to you is to make your suggestion broader by asking them to put it on sale for a short period in the near future. That has a better chance to happen
I’m personally not a fan of the Zodiac armor (I hate helmets, and always have it hidden, but having the face in normal flesh and the rest of the body in zodiac flesh looks silly too). but I know it is a popular skin and hope it comes back for you and others in the near future.

Because “free to play” and “play for free” mean the same thing, and the second one sounds a lot friendlier.
No it does not mean the same thing. The first indicates always, the later does not do that.
so we really are going to have a semantical/retorical discusion about that or the real hacking/spaming issue?
I don’t see any issue at all.
All we know is “leaked” info published on a website. I find it far too premature to draw any conclusions bout any potential hacking/spamming issue. That is speculating on speculation. Arenanet has a pretty good trackrecord when it comes to fighting spammers and hackers (compared to other games). I’m pretty confident that IF they go fully free to play, it will have sufficient measures to prevent problems.

Didn’t we have to provide a phone number when registering the game, in the first place? I don’t remember anyone commenting on that before the whole SMS thing. If not, I wonder where they got that information in ‘My Account’.
I have one there, but only have put it there recently and for no interesting reason. That is bout two weeks ago. before that it was empty. Maybe they do have plans for it, but most of all my first reaction stands.
IGN has often got their hands on leaked info and misinterpertated it. The vid is not proving anything either. So before we panic, lets wait for the official and real announcement (likely tomorrow). If they go this way, they will likely also adress how they will handle potential issues.

I’ll try it again with an example to point out the grey area between ranting and feedback.
As you can see my posts end with a line from the internationale (socialist and communist song), but twisted to the GW2 universe. This is cause I have the opinion and feedback that Arenanet has been nerfing certain farms too heavy just cause it harmed the powertraders. Some nerfs where needed (like the ones that caused drama cause you needed to let an event fail on purpose), but some where perfeclty legit ways of farming and where not harmfull to anything but the price of certain items on the market.
Since then, they have not done those kind of nerfs again, so I’m somewhati hopefull that they have listened.
Sorry for a long intro, but wanted to use some feedback on my own as an example.
I have given this type of feedback on several ocassions where it was appropiate (and on topic). However, I’m not dragging it out whenever I can.
I see people doing exact that. They go wildly off topic just to make their point for the millionth time.
Feedback is always welcome!
Feedback from the heart is always welcome too. We all understand that if something frustrates you, it helps to bring it to the attention of the devs, not only for the devs, but also to ease your frustration.
Venting just your frustration without any underlaying feedback (new and on topic), is just for venting your frustration.
The last one is where for me the line is. I understand some frustration (I don’t always agree with it though), but this forum is not for counceling.
That kind of venting is something that is given way too much room on this forum.

IGN has been known to draw wrong conclusions bout leaked info.
The core game IS free for some months now IF you buy the expansion. So from a marketing point of view it is perfectly viable to call that “play for free”
There is a big announcement tomorrow and they are announcing something bigger then usual. But it seems to be aimed also a lot towards the current playerbase.
IGN has been wrong more often in the past. So I wait till the big announcement tomorrow and then start to hype bout it or rant bout it (depending on what it is)

If the purpose of the BWE2 is to test and bug find
If you find a bug in any field, it is very welcome to report it. But they do have a very solid Q&A team testing these kind of things as well.
The things they want to test during the beta weekends is not to do the Q&A job, but to see how reception of certain elements is and to see how the new world reacts to large amount of players.
For a reference to what they want us to be testing, see this sticky thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Simpler-Form-for-Testing/
Nothing there bout finding bugs in the higher mastery tiers.

I think it has to do with synergy with certain other elements of the expansion.
Specifically the new legendary’s.
We know we don’t get a new one for all weapons. So it makes sense that they do this round of specialisations in such way that you can get a new legendary that matches your new specialisation weapon.
so I would expect that the new legendary will be a staff.
Keep in mind that this is just the first round of specialisations. in the future they want to add more, as well as more legendaries. So nothing is forgotten, just other choices have been made for this round.

[BWE2] Allow us to skip 1st story instance
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
You can go in the instance, then go to character select and relog. It should get you in the new map, without having done the story
I’m pretty sure I tried this last bwe and it put me back at the beginning in Red Rock.
The OP has started some persistent confusion bout the word instance.
The start of the beta is in the silverwastes. This is NOT an instance, but it is open world (though separated from the regular silverwastes map). You can recognise that it isn#t an instance cause you can meet other people there.
Once you’ve rescued the fort (amber sandfalls) a small new area comes available. This is where you are sent to an instance in Verdant Brinks. Once completed you are in the open world version of Verdant Brinks.
If you log out and back inside the beta version of the silverwastes, you will end up in the beta version of the silverwastes.
If you go out of the beta to the regular maps and return to a waypoint in the silverwaste you will end up in the non-beta version. Near red rock is a star that lets you re-enter the beta version.
If you log out and back in during the instance in verdant brinks, you will end up in the open world verdant brinks.
The OP is looking/asking for a way to bypass the open world beta version of the Silverwastes to go strait to the open world verdant brinks.
This is not possible

My question is more technical tho. Is glider deployment server-side? Think about dropping from a high cliff, waiting till you get close to the ground, then deploying glider right before you hit ground. I’d have to take ping into consideration and judge how early I’d need to open glider.
When I jump, I jump instantly – no need to ask the server if I can jump.
When I deploy glider, it has to ask the server first, then once server says it’s ok, it will open for me. That round-trip between client and server is gonna be a killer.
Like all movement, it revolves around being both serverside and clientside at the same time. People imagine the server often as an imaginary hall where your character and all other characters are moving. This is not true. It looks much more like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVAaNNFWVPo
(well not that either, but I hope you got my point, it is load of data being recieved and sent).
In essence what happens is that client is doing most of the work. They render the 3d environment, they see you press space so you need to deploy the glider and they show you deploying the glider. They also sent this info to the server. They verify you do that correctly and then broadcast the info bout your location and action (deploying the glider) to all other clients with characters close to you.
So the issue you are recognising is fully client bound. If you got serverside lag it will always be in the form of rubberbanding (so the client broadcasts info bout your location and actions to the server, it never gets there cause of networklag or serverissues and when it does get through, the server will tell the client that you can’t be there and orders the client to put you back in the last known location). There is however a client side of lag that can be caused by the input from the server. That happens when there are a lot of players around. The client gets so much info broadcasts of other players, the rendering process gets into a queue and will start skipping (more) frames. If framerate drops between a certain level (40-ish) we will notice it cause of reactiontimes, and if it drops below 16, it is clearly notable (the sldie-show effect). This last one can always be solved by lowering your graphics.
To get back to topic. During the closed bate (the one you needed the portal stone for), the glider felt clunky and I had simular issues. During the first BWE I had much lesser issues. I think it all comes down to practise.
I remember how I had a lot of trouble with jumping puzzles when GW2 launched. But I got the hang of and solved it. The same was with the zaphyrites cliffs. It took me some time to get used to that. So it is with this. If you’ve never been on a bike you will fall and fail. But with practise you’ll get better!

[BWE2] Allow us to skip 1st story instance
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
I’m not sure what you mean with story instance in SW? there is a vid that you skip and the rest is open world. You need to do an event to gain access to VB, that is not a story instance at all. It is in my opinion simular that you need to open the skritttunnels to get to the jumping puzzle. It doesn’t take long (5 minutes tops)

to be honest. The whining has always existed.
The main difference is that the non-whiners left.
Not the game, but the forums.
There are three kind of people (well there are a lot more, but for the purpose of this post -lol- ). Those who like the game. Those that don’t like the game and don’t care and those that don’t like the game, but do care.
The first is happily playing the game
The second is not playing the game, but also they don’t care bout that.
the third is frustrate and seek ways to express their unhappyness (as said, they do care bout the game).
Where is the best place to express it? here!
It is not allowed to discuss moderator actions, so I’m on thin ice, but I try to keep it as general as possible.
I think feedback is welcome and good. It helps the game to become better. However, there are people who are in my humble opinion, misusing this feedback to express just negative emotions that have no function but sattisfying themselfs. I’ve seen occasions where this leads to conflicts and where the mod-team is in my opinion to protective towards the right to give feedback and (still in my opnion) should have been more protective for the atmosphere on this forum.
Keep mind, it is bout balance here. Both are tasks the mod-team have and it is my opinion they have reacted too much out of balance. This has imo also to do with the framwork in which they operate. The forum code has for example a rule “Avoid frivolous and duplicate postings.”
Cause 99.99% of all opinions have been expressed, this gives the mods the right to remove a post that is just “ranting” (as you put it). they never do that however. They do merge simular threads, but never posts. Those kind of lil things would imo help a lot in governing this community in a more pleassant way. To restore balance between welcome feedback and unneeded ranting

I personally feel they have plans for the dragons in a different way as the road followed with Zhaithan.
I got several reasons.
1: the three orders had different plans with the dragons.
- The order of whispers believe there is no way to physically destroy or negotiate with the Elder Dragons so the only way to counter them is to find a way to send them back to sleep.
- The durmand priory hope that intellect, or some lost piece of knowledge, can save the world from the rise of the dragons.
- The Vigil believe that the Elder Dragons grow more powerful as each day passes, and that those who do not fight now are giving the world away by standing passively aside.
So with the unification of the pact, we followed the Vigil way. We tried that approach with Mordremoth, but we don’t know.
2: a few loose ends from Season 2 of the living world.
- What is the true meaning of the theory of all. It is seen in omadd’s device as well in the ceiling of the arcanium.
- We know that the zephyrites where protecting Glint’s Egg. But why is it so important? We know that dragons can “create” luitenants and champions. We got the shatterer (Glint’s successor), jormag’s claw and Tequatl. So why is that egg so important? Glint was “just” a champion and she got replaced after her destruction. bottom line, there is more to it.
- The ancient secrets burried deep inside the maguuma jungle.
So all in all, I find it a very boring prospect to destroy Mordremoth the “vigil” way. I think in this situation it points mostly towards the durmand way (cause of the ancient secrets).
I think the next dragon (after Mordremoth) will be put asleep the vigil way. By then we know all their secrets and their weaknesses and the remaining 3 will be easy to be stopped. Specially cause it can be combined. That is the moment us heroes can be focussing on other, more important matters elsewhere.
GW2 is running great and has a future that can last many years to come. But I also think there will be a time that we need GW3. I’m positive we got atleast two more expansions to go (more if the release rate is intensified), but after that, the way we play games and epxerience them will yet again be so much evolved, it is time to build GW3

It won’t become gift-able for the same reason no other account upgrades are. There would be various issues raised by gifting something to someone who can’t actually use it on account of already being maxed. Plus its a once-per-account thing, which again would create problems if you bought it for someone who already bought it themselves.
This logic doesn’t make any sense. Outfits are also once-per-account but those can be gifted. It’s easy to ask whether or not someone has something.
Outfits are not once per account. They might have put in limitations to buy two (don’t buy outfits). If you gift an outfit, for the person recieving it, it is not useless at all. It works as a free transmutation charge for that specific outfit. So it is still of “some” use.
The issue with the bank-space and bag slots is that they have a complex hidden limitation. You can ask someone (and the person can check easily) if they have e.g. the balthasar costume. However, to know wether or not you reached the max of bank-slots or bagslots, you need detailed knowledge. So it is a lot harder to communicate bout it.
If you want to gift it. I recommend buying a 2000 gems prepaid gemcard.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I have no trouble at all with people earning achievement points for playing the beta. Many games have rewarded beta players with gifts. Often things that are unique.
Obviously, the gift itself should be inline with the effort. If you would get e.g. 2000 AP’s., that would be very out of balance. But e.g. 200 AP’s won’t make a difference. Yes you miss out on something, but there will be plenty of opportunity’s to get AP’s in other ways.
As in this case, I even doubt it really is a reward people keep. it looks more like a way of testing some achievements they plan to put into HoT anyways or to help people to test certain elements.

Delay release of HoT in favor of a new spec
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
I think every guardian will agree with a delay of HoT if it’s in favor of a new specialisation for the guardian.
You are committing a few logical fallacies in this, but this is the one which stands out the most.
First, you can bet that only a minority will mind the elite spec. Why? Because external discussion is biased towards unhappy opinions. So even if 100% of the forum population were to say that they don’t want the spec, I think a figure thrown around during WoW days was 15% of the players who engage on the forums at all. Meaning that you’d still have 85% which are either ambivalent or happy with it.
You are absolutly correct.
I’m not sure bout other countries, but in mine at high school your have lessons in argumenting a case. The first chapter in that lesson is to avoid speaking on behalf of others. If you do, you allready did.
The OP assumes he has the authority to speak on behalf of all guardians. That assumption is incorrect (I’m a guardian and he is not speaking on my behalf). But even if he presents a lot of guardians that agree with him, he still can’t. To speak on behalf of a group you need a mandate. So in argueing, it would be best to avoid speaking for others, but if you do, give evidence of the mandate that give you the right to speak on behalf of others. If you pretend to speak on behalf of others, you allready last the argument when you can’t back up that claim with evindence you got the right to do so.
In other words. The OP is wrong.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
I guess ArenaNet wasn’t ‘nice’ to begin with, as the core game came with 8 Professions and only 5 Character slots; something I remember from Guild Wars, as well.
Still, everyone has their own idea of what they are entitled to.
Good luck.
but you could chose any of those proffesions. If you have full char slots now, you cant choose revenant.
basically you didnt buy any of the boxes without the ability to access any job that was added in that game.
Unless you want to access more then 4 professions in Prophecies you mean? If you wanted to try them all what then? No other option then deleting one or forking $20. Here at least you have other less drastic options like if you’re going to buy anyway why not buy a day early?
and for this expansion, you dont even have that option if your char is full.
Many people wont buy a day early, beacuse many people may not even be aware of the game. Many others dont believe in giving people money for something before it is given to them.
Regardless in terms of the actual value of the game, and what players should be given in the base box, prepurchase bonus solves nothing.lets fast forward to the day after release. Someone wants to buy the game. He says, its crappy that i have to delete my charachter or pay 10 bucks before i can even try out revenant. Do you tell him his complaints and worry is groundless, because he should go back in time and buy it 2 days ago?
They shut a lot of people up, by offering charachter slot as a prepurchase bonus (the people were complaining about the base game not the prepurchase bonus) but that doesnt actually solve the problem.
Its like if someone is selling a car with no seat, people complain, and he says everyone who buys this car before it comes out on the 5th gets a free seat.
he has not solved the problem at all. People who prepurchase may no longer care/make a big deal about it, but the problem they had with the product still exists. The product they are offering has not improved, merely their prepurchase bonus. Everyone who buys after the 5th still has a problem.
Basically they are giving veterans a much worse product unless they buy ahead of time. AND keep in mind their return system (from what we ve seen in the past) basically means you have to delete your account.
If someone buys the game the day after it comes out, realizes they have to delete one of their charachters and wants their money back, they likely have to delete their whole account. This is a purchase you really should make with all the information, and even reviews, because its lilkely that you will not be able to refund just the expansion, and yet they are strongly encouraging players to leap before they look.Prepurchase bonuses should be extra uneeded things, not things basic to experiencing the content of the game.
I think your reasoning is nothing better as saying:
The expansion is crappy cause my bank is full and now I can’t store any of the new goodies that drop for the new pre-cursor system.
An expansion (or DLC) exist in its core of content and features that are new.
All other things have always been something that is additional.
The things that are added will always be something you get for “free” with the expansion itself.
If people need an extra characterslot, or a bankslot, they are always available. for a certain fee. Unlike in GW1, you are not locked out of those features. The pre-order bonus gives the people that pre-ordered them for free. The rest has to pay for them.
The bonus offer of a pre-order has a value. it is worth 10 USD/Euro. If people need an extra character slot and don’t pre-order, all they have to do is pay another 10 USD/Euro. As with any offer. They end at a certain date. If you are too late. “we are very sorry”.
Off course, you can judge that such a price is too expensive. But compared to other games and looking at the amount of content we are actually getting for free between payed releases, I think the GW2 prices are more the reasonable. I’ve payed in total bout 250 euro to Arenanet for 4 years gameplay (assuming, the next payed expansion after HoT is atleast one year away. With a competing game like Wow that would be 4*50 euro for the core game and the expansions + 4*120 euro monthly fees. So a total of 680 euro’s. That is a difference of 430 euro. On top of that, many purchases at Arenanet I made where not required to play at all. I did it cause I wanted to.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Just popping in to say that ESO had a big incline of keys bought with stolen credit card info and resold.
I do think it should NOT be a reason for getting the account banned if a HoT key is bought by the reseller with stolen credit card info and added to an existing (legit bought) account. Off course, the account should be stripped of HoT access.
But it is up to Arenanet to decide how to deal with such an issue. afaik, it hasn’t happened yet.
bottom line however is. if an offer is too good to be true, it generally isn’t.
For GW2 core game, there are discounts at resellers cause NCSoft sold them with discounts. HoT has only available for one price. people selling it cheaper mean they are loosing money on it. so safe yourself the hassle and don’t go for it.
