I like the level om combat and the challenge it has to offer, but one thing bugs me a bit. It is how packed the foes are.
I like having a map packed with action. running around to look for it is not fun. But I’ve had several encounters where just a single backwards dodge is enough to attrack a second mob.
Maybe it is an idea to decrease the agro-range significantly when you are in combat. (so if the agrorange is now 100, set it to 20 if you are in combat, meaning you can get very close to another group of mobs without getting the extra agro, the second you killed the group of mobs you where fighting it goes back to 100 and if there are mobs in the 20-100 range you will instantly be in agro again).
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I’m pretty against it.
I’ll use an example why. When I pug I bring a build (skills, traits and gear) that is 90% zerker. For the rest I bring a bit of increase in group healing. The reason is that some pug’s are bad and I want to come prepared. I prefer to have a smooth run, but want to be able to save the day when we don’t. The lack of dps is extremely small and people normally don’t notice that im not 100% zerker cause of my dps output.
With an inspection option it would mean that people with not a clue how my build work, judge it as bad, just cause it is not 100% zerker. Even having it optional (declining it) would still mean it changes the allready elitism in pugs in an even more negative way.
So no. If you want to know what I’m using ask me nicely and I likey tell you.

Do I need to buy LS season 2 to play HoT?

Remember, you won’t be able to take your Revenant into the Heart of Maguuma until it is L80. If you will be using ToKs, then that could be almost immediately.
Good luck.
Indeed. To get ToK’s (tomes of knowledge), you can get them fairly easy in game by doing sPvP or dailies. It is a bit of a farm, but if you start now you should have time to get a good amount and even get enough to get 80 (or 60 if you have a birthday scroll)

I wouldn’t count this as a bug. As I understand it, we are supposed to go down there when HoT launches. There is actually a part with a structure down there as well. The blocks to prevent us getting there alive are there just for the beta

“There should have been at least a small discount for players who already have an account or at the VERY LEAST ONE free character slot.”
If you buy HoT and tie it to an account you created before january 23, you do get a free character slot. See: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ/#Additional
I bought Gw1 and all campaigns/expansions for a total of 120 euro’s. Now it is offered for less then 40 euro. Did I got ripped off? nope. I played a lot.
the things you thought where wrong, have been fixed a good amount of time ago. You where happy to pay 50 USD for the original game and you can choose to enjoy it any time you want. You choose not too.
Arenanet is the one who almost invented no monthly fee in the genre. There is a ton of content added since launch, all for free.
I’ve payed 130 euro’s (excluding HoT purchase) in the last 3 years. For that price I got a lot of content for free and the possibility to play whenever I want. In other games you need to pay 10 euro per month AND buy the expansions for 50 euro per year to actually stay competitive. compared to that GW2 is an absolute bargain.

As gamescon is bout to end just wanted pop in and advice the team to get some Reissdorf Kölsch. It is a german local beer from the cologne area and tastes really good. Didn’t had time to go to gamescon this year, but maybe next year. Hope you had a great time, looking at the posts here it sure seems it was!

Actually I think it would be much easier to filter all the answers and get a percentage of info they need from surveys, I am not saying they should focus only of surveys, but it might be a reliable source of feedback
The problem is that you need to ask questions, and to get a percentage you need to have closed question with multiple choice. So it is not proper feedback but guided feedback.
for example asking “on a scale of 1-10, how much did you enjoy this BWE?” only tells how much people enjoyed it, but not why they did or why they did not.
So if the feedback is that the smokescale is too OP (I’m not saying it is, I love it but jsut an example). You need a direct question asking bout the difficulty of the smokescale. That means that true reasons for liking or disliking are not surfacing, cause you can’t ask questions bout every single detail.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
1: HoT beta is only 25% off the first map. If you run close to the (closed off) east way, the day/night cycle events goes away. This is an indication that it is confined to that 25%. Further they have not shown us all. there is a lot more.
I could just as easily say this is an indication that content in that area is simply not complete, or in a state they would rather us not see.
We don’t have any assurance that there is really more beyond Verdant Brink. At this point, it’s all speculation based on vague references and implied statements.
2: GW1 content was way easier to develop and to create. The company was a lot smaller but managed to create a full scale campaign within a year. It took them 7! years to develop GW2 while the team only grew bigger. I’m not a specialist, but also not calloing them lazy. So it seems a modern game like GW2 takes a lot more time to develop.
If you go back to pre-release info, GW2 was designed for content (new events, maps, etc) to be added more easily than with GW1. It’s true that modern games are more complex and have their own challenges that older games did not, but this game was designed from the start to be easier to add content to.
Also, GW1 took 5 years to develop, not 1 year. The two additional campaigns took about a year each. You cannot compare the time it takes to develop an additional campaign/expansion to the time it takes to build an entirely new game.
Anet was also rather proud to label content from Southsun through LS1 as “a full expansion worth of content”, so they do seem to think they can make a GW2 expansion in a year. From official statements, interviews, and publicly released investor conferences, it’s very clear that they’ve not spent the last 3 years (or even 2) working on HoT. It is a much more recent project.
A: Verdant brinks is announced as the first map. And it is said that the beta only plays on 25%. There is no speculation in it at all.
B: I never said that GW1 was developped in one year. please don’tgg try to win an argument by putting words in other peoples moputh, it is just very bad to do so! I said expansions and campaigns where developped in 1 year.
C: GW2 was not designed to make it easier to add content. They never said it, stop making up facts!
D: Content! not maps. Season one was a lot more then just southsun. And with the biweekly releases we had back then, we had an amount of content that surpassed an expansion big time. That it was not permanent content, is allready aknowledged by Arenanet as a bad thing!
E: the way you try to debate and the way you put things down is just wrong. If you want to debate on facts, please do os, but for now you just like to be toxicating. My best bet would be that you work for Blizzard.
F: Yes other games have more content released, but it comes with a price. For exmaple Blizzard. There you pay 120 euro/USD monthly fee + 45 euro for the xpac that is released once a year. With Arenanet most content is free. The price of 45 euro for the xpac is very reasonable, even if it is small. Yes WoW xpacs might be bigger, but also a lot more expansive. Judge quality for the label!

You don’t miss new stuff as it will be there forever. I think there are plenty off options for players nowadays to skip the levelling progress. I know I got enough level up scrolls and I’ve only been doing dailies for getting them (exchanging xp writs for the level up scrolls).

Also a small note to the OP.
The board (if it would exist), has very limited influence on the main decissions. They mostly handle financial issues where they look at the revenue and profits and give tasks to lower departments to reach certain targets. They have no influence on decissions (or care bout) like “when is HoT release date”, or “a member got suspended and is angry”.
The real important decissions you are talking bout (like the HoT release date) is taken by a lower group of people. Although not all members in it are known I bet that Colin Johansen (studio lead) and Mike o’ Brien (CEO) are in it.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I don’t think they should keep it turned on. It will make (this small part) grow old before the game actually launches.
The problem of not understanding event mechanics and calling it bugged is something that also happened in the closed beta, but in the third cycle people started to get the hang of it. The beta will last till for 33 hours and we “only” had 39 hours. so we only just reached halfway and events will develop futher. I do hope that we keep progress on masteries for the next BWE.

“Running with friends allies is always fun, but pretty much needed to survive. creature density is too high, respawn rate is high that even in a 3 man group you would easily get overwhelmed”
What class did you run??
There is a big thread bout mob difficulty. And there is a imo a big difference there between those who run they same class as in the normal game and those trying the revenant or the new specialisations.
In normal game there is a long learning curve where you have to learn your build. the default build you are given in beta is ok, but not superior. also you have limited knowledge.
I never had much difficulty with mobs and solo-ing many events (besides the group events obviously).
I just want to prevent Arenanet from nerfing everything just cause people don’t know how to play their toon.
I personally think it is good that the expansion has a higher difficulty level as the rest of the game.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
As ArenaNet is a wholly-owned subsidiary, the Members of the Board are probably found somewhere on NCSoft’s website(s). These members may, or may not, have anything directly to do with game content design and/or implementation. You may want to look into the Game/Design Directors, etc.
Good luck.
Do you have any proof it is wholly-owned?? it is a full subsidiary and acquired by ncsoft. This means they bought over 50% of the company (and so are the ones making the decissions cause they have the majority). afaik, nobody said they bought all of it.
I personally think that of the three founders, Mike ’o Brien still owns his part of the company. Jefft Strain and Patrick Wyatt where likely the ones being bought out with shares in NCWest. (hence why they worked there). Thats how those deals normally goes. As Mike stayed the CEO, it is good if he also owns part of the company. It means he has a strong incentive for it to do good.
bottom line is however, you dont need to buy 100% of a company to call it a subsidairy. Only more then 50%

I’ve played the closed beta and was one of the people critisizing the day/night cycle.
The issue I had back then that was night was lacking content. It was like at night it was totally a stand still.
First off all, I think you have outdone yourself. You’ve said you wanted to feel like two different maps. Thats not true. But the foes, the position of the foes and the places where the action is makes it a very different experience indeed and the night is much more vibrant.
I still think there is something missing, and I think it is how it leads up to something. Maybe it is planned for the second part of the map, but the last 15 minutes of the night should have some extra oempf to mark the beginning of a new cycle. Maybe a boss called “dawnbreaker” (a name popular in another game, but very appropiate for the purpose)

actually I find them still too easy.
to explain. During the first closed beta I played revenant, I had some serious issues with some foes, but obviously, I couldnt judge cause I was playing an unknown class (and not yet at its full potential cause we only had two weapons and two legends).
So this time I decided to note exactly my guardians build. Roll a new guardian. copy the build and see how that goes. It is actually easy and no challenge. I see all kinds of revenants left and right of me dropping dead, while I steamroll through it.
No I don’t think the revenant is weak. But it is new and we miss the learning curve of levelling it up and learning to play it properly and find the right builds and rotations. That makes people say the mobs are too hard. They are absolutly fine and actually too easy to my taste.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I just started to think about this personal story what we are doing in HoT Beta.
1. Fact, I am Revenant
2. Fact, I am doing my personal story
3. Fact, Rytlock comes back from Mists
4. Fact, Rytlock is first Revenant
5. How can I be revenant?I started to think whole GW2 story from the start, point of view of new player. I make a new character who is a Revenant. I play whole core GW2 game and kill Zhaitan. Then I have decided to buy Living Story 2 and play it thru and learn that Rytlock went to the Mists. When I have finish this Living Story 2 and start to do HoT personal story and during that personal story mission Rytlock is coming back. I have learned that he is first Revenant. So new player start to wonder too, if he/she have brains, how can I be Revenant?
How can I be a warrior. I have zero condition. a beer belly, overweight and spend my time in a chair playing games (or lurking the forum). How can I be a warrior in the game like that??
Sounds very different?? no it isn’t. This is all bout immersion. a lack of immersion is not cause it is inconsistent, cause everything is (it is a fantasygame in a fantasy world, that is inconsistent in the core). So why can’t you overcome such minor details that are a result of continuity versus playability.
There are two possible reasons:
1: you have trouble with the immersion cause you are simply loosing interest in the game.
2: you just want to nitpick.
(or a combination of the two)
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Nope.
Only the middle-layer being available in this beta.Where do you get this info?
From https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-first-beta-weekend-event-begins-august-7/
“From there, they will land in Verdant Brink, the first map of the expansion, where about 25 percent of the total playable space of that first map will be available to play. You’ll be able to train your Masteries in the jungle region as you play through the story and event content available in Verdant Brink.”
and
“And finally, we’ve done a lot of work since the closed beta test to continue progressing the nighttime meta-event within the jungle-floor-biome experience”
The rest is deducting the available info. We have acccess to almost half of verdant brinks during the beta just looking at the flat map. So the other two layers are obviously locked (or only partly available)

Hello, i bought HoT Ultimate last week. As bonus of the ultimate pack, i got 1 free char slot. But i do remember that Anet will give the old players 1 char slot as a gift if they pre-purchase any pack of HoT. So i think total i will have addition 2 char slot if i pre-purchase HoT ultimate. But atm, i have only 1 addition char slot. So is it a bug or sth else?
Thanks for help.
The character slot that comes with the ultimate is given instantly.
The character slot that is given cause you purchased the core game before january 23 comes in batches. Anet runs a batchprogram to see who are eiligable for it and then gives it oot to those people.
I would advice you to wait atleast 2 weeks and after that (if it didnt get through) contact support.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

This has to be said everytime the game has beta’s we as a community can participate in, but I’ll say it again.
The purpose of a beta is NOT for us to have fun and enjoy the upcoming content (in this case the Xpac)!
The purpose is to test stuff. As specialisations are not the things needed to be tested, it does not matter for the purpose of the beta.
Off course that doesn’t mean you are not allowed to have fun and enjoy the upcoming content. That is a very pleassant side effect. Just stop mixing purpose and side effect up!

How can I get the second one original game
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
So if I already activated Hot,I cant get the second game?
Correct.
It was either a single new account with GW2 + HoT or a upgrade for an existing account for HoT.
Actually…
It is changed now.
It is either a new account with GW2+HoT or an upgrade for an existing account with HoT+ an extra character slot.
If you bought the game after January 23, 2015 directly on buy.guildwars2.com, you can get a refund for the price you paid for the core game if you get HoT.
People who bought the game after January 23 from a thirdparty store or who bought the game before January 23 in any other way get a free characterslot.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
for an upgrade, the gempurchase is the only option.
As the game isn’t out yet, I guess it would be possible to get a refund for basic HoT and then rebuy it for deluxe. But this cost work by support, so pls only do it if it is the only viable option for you.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
this could be an upgrade and balance to the current weapon skill bar.
No No No,
Balance means that classes are as viable as others. This would make both engineer AND ele way too OP. thats no balance at all.
The simple fact remain, even with half-half, you give the ele more mix ‘n match and so allow them to make much more possible combo’s, many of them way too powerfull. The limitation is there for a very very important reasons. So just stop it please!
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Once you have filled the M(astery)XP bar, you will be able to unlock the feature with one (or more) Mastery Points.

The prepurchase FAQ states that if I had bought the game from an outside retailer (which I did from Amazon) and “was applied to your account between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015,” I would be eligible for a free character slot. Is the item being applied referring to the core game serial code or the Heart of Thorns XPAC code? I am asking because I bought the game upon release meaning if it is referring to the core game, I would not be eligible.
- If you bought the game before january 23 (so thats your case as you bought it at release) AND prepurchase Hearts of Thorns you will get a free character slot.
- If you bought the game after january 23 from buy.guildwars2.com, you will NOT get a free character slot, but will be eligible for a refund of the core game cause it is included in the expansion.
- Cause it is nearly impossible to do the above for games bought between january 23 and june 16 (when the HoT-prepurchase started) from a third party, those people do not get a refund of the core game and so they get the free character slot instead.
As you bought the core game before January 23, you will get a free character slot.

4 beta char slots - can't create Revenant?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
When creating my character it defaulted to revenant. So it is still in the list. Make sure you create a beta character and not a regular one.
It might be that they want to keep the balance a bit ok, so limiting the amount of revenants at a time. so if you can’t make one, that might be the reason (cheer speculation though)

They aren’t releasing new info this week because the beta is this weekend. and they are doing Gamescom at which they will hopefully have some big news to announce.
I would be very dissapointed when they do have something big to announce. the only thing big can be a release date. They always said when they are ready.
I always hate it when company use a convention to make a big announcement. It means they are only after the publicity.
If they take the player as serious as they say they do, they make an announcement when they know it. So within 48 hours from the boardmeeting where the last lights turned green!

Ok. I’m sure ANet needed to hear from you directly and it is well worth making a thread about.
They sometimes listen so when enough people will mention this then they might do beta for everyone next time, it’s stupid that people are ready to pay for beta access, I don’t even play games at launch because I might lose all my progress due to a bug.
Maybe I need to make a start a thread then saying,
Just got an email from Anet asking me to prepurchase HoT to play BWE.
Silly ANet. Lol. I’ve already prepurchased and plan to play each beta event and enjoy myself. I’ll report any bugs I find to help make the expansion better and comment in threads on what I like and dislike.

Is there any way to make it remember my location or PC (as these never change) like the old authenticator in the login screen used to.
Both location and and pc name can be spoofed. the old login screen actually not had an authenticator, but just a login. the username/password where saved locally.
while IP-adresses can be spoofed, there can always only be one of them active on the internet (private ranges excluded cause they are only active on the internet behind a NAT). That makes sure that the game will always verify you computer if they know something changed. Doing what you said would decrease the security to the same level as it was without an authentication.

We only saw one layer adnt hat will be the same this weekend) If you jumped down the center you would land on an invisable barrier. There are two more layers below the one you saw in closed beta
There were two biomes accessible in the 2nd stress test. Some of those areas were definitely not canopy. The blog post about this weekend event specifically mentions changes to a jungle floor biome event made since the last beta.
Still doesn’t feel at all how it is announced. As it felt very much one layerd. Also there where these hallways that seemed to lead to different levels and closed off hallways.
further, there was only bout 40% max of the map opened up. (looking where the mapname was). So even if it was 1,5 biomes, it was still only 20% of the entire map.
My point stand that it is bout quality and not quantity. The night cycle needed work and they said they did.

What if they announced 3 PvE maps for HoT?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
I’ll answer very simple that I judge on quality and not on quantity. It actually seems there will be “just” 1 map. This map however is bigger then normal PvE maps. It also consist of three layers above eachother, making it actually the size of three bigger then average PvE-maps.
I thought the same thing, till I actually saw Verdant Brink. The multi-layer concept looks great on marketing material, but the reality of what has already been seen is very different.
From what was seen in earlier stress tests, and from datamined maps, Verdant Brink looks to be about the size of Dry Top and Silverwastes combined. That is considerably smaller than a lot of existing maps, many of which are around double that size.
As for the three biome layers, the jungle canopy and floor areas didn’t seem to have much overlap at all in the stress test areas. We’ve yet to see the underground area at all, so there is some hope for overlap there. A lot of the area was also taken up by inaccessible canyons, although those areas could possibly be available at a later time (but I don’t see that being very likely).
The way events are displayed on the map makes frequent overlaps seem even less likely. Unless it sees a major overhaul, finding events would be very frustrating without indication of which layer they are in. I just don’t this idea of 1 map = 3 maps worth of playable area being a reality.
We only saw one layer adnt hat will be the same this weekend) If you jumped down the center you would land on an invisable barrier. There are two more layers below the one you saw in closed beta

There was no feedback option ingame
It depends a bit on the type of feedback.
If it is a simple bug, I would recommend a bugreport in game.
As it is more broader bout a mechanic or bout how you like the atmosphere, I would recommend to do it in here (this section of the forum). Make sure you start your thread with a recognisable line. It would be nice if e.g. Gaile would approve of one (I know she is busy in Cologne though). But I think if we all use : “BWE1 FEEDBACK”, it would be very convinient for everyone.

I think you would go for the quality of the first option right?
further. Size isn’t everything. It also matters how well packed it is with stuff to do.
So all in all. don’t judge on quantity, but on quality. I’ve pre-ordered, also based on what I’ve seen in the closed beta. Others are waiting till it is released and more details bout the quality are known.

Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
Any ideas why ArenaNet decided not to surprise us with the announcement of Heart of Thorns release date, on GamesCom 2015?
Because you wher eexpecting it so it wouldn’t be a surprise at all??
Reality is, if you look at the BWE-announcement
Specially this part:
The jungle content is predominantly the same content we showed to a small audience in closed beta testing earlier this year, but it’s more polished. We’ve done a lot of work to balance creature difficulty, and we’ll be looking for your thoughts on the overall experience. Do you feel the need to use your entire skill bar in battles? Does teaming up with other players feel more rewarding? Do you find yourself wanting to change your skills and traits to overcome encounters? Warning—creatures will be more challenging than in the existing Guild Wars 2 world. (Note: This is not what we meant when we said “challenging group content” at the expansion’s announcement—we’ll announce the details of that in the future.)
The way I see this is that the closed beta showed some issues they wanted to solve. Now they have changed things based on that feedback, they first want us to test it again to know it is right now.
That is what they mean by “when it is ready”!!
It clearly isn’t ready enough yet to announce a release date. So don’t expect one either.
I honestly get very very annoyed with those companies that keep info for themself till some stupid kind of convention so they can announce something. I’m happy that Arenanet will share the date with us when they know it themself. Not a minute later or earlier!

Support doesn’t tell the cause of the ban. The reason is that it gives away data bout their third party software detection systems. The makers of that software would very much like to known how they got detected.
Usage of a third party program means that support has seen that your account has been using another program to cheat. This can be botting, travelling without the use of waypoints, going through walls, etc.
It can not be caused by a virusscanner deleting a file. That might cause the game from not working properly, but not to create behaviour that is giving you an unfair advantage.
So what is known (and all you get to know) is that your account was operated while using a third party program to cheat. The use of such a third party program is not something one does on accident.
It can be that someone hacked your account. You can (if not allready done so) ask support to investigate that. Please know that they will know beyond doubt if it is or not.

This is not a good news at all IMHO.
It can only mean the release is well far and we will probably not see the expansion before Christmas.
No it is no news at all. We allready knew it will be released in 2015. All that is said is repeating the existing statement. At this moment they are not ready to reveal a releasedate yet, but it will be in 2015. That has been the statement for 6 months now.

I think the first thing you should do is install GW2 in the proper way. To avoid needing to download everything again I advice you to do the following.
1: download the client (click my account on this website and then “download the client”
2: start installing it. Choose your instalation directory and start it. When you get to the screen where you can login and where the download start, stop the process. (close the client)
3: now copy the file gw2.dat from the old pc (or storage device) to the new instalation directory. It will ask you if you want to overwrite it (do that).
4: restart the client. It is now going to check the gw2.dat file and checks if it is up to date. If thats all the case you can then start playing as usual.

Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]

Unless they’ve already shipped them. They may be sitting in warehouses; either at the retailer’s end, or manufacturer’s end.
I have no idea when the release date will be, or will be announced. At least, the Devs have said something more concrete, now, though. =)
Oh yah. If they have already assembled them and If they are sitting in the manufacturers/retailers warehouses (which I personally very much doubt as that ties up the manufacturers inventory and passes storage cost on to those businesses for an indefinite amount of time, possibly several months) there is still the time needed to sell the expansion, one or two months, which needs to be factored in to the guesses of when it will begin.
I don’t know. Maybe they don’t need such a firm commitment to boxed editions. I mean, they announced pre-purchase with only a few boxed editions available, or so it seems. Maybe they rely on digital distribution more. Boxed editions were supposed to be available all over a week after the announcement, but….
It’s hard to say if leaving two or three months for distribution when speculating on a release date needs to be considered, or not. /shrug
I just hope it’s sooner rather than later. Pre-purchase came as a surprise (to me).
Undoubtably they are moving towards Digital as much as possible and only use box sales to pick up a small fraction. I know I’ve seen advertisements for this game in various popular sites I read. With more and more people having access to the Internet and getting used to buying through it, boxed sales are probably not near the importance they used to be.
Also…any boxed edition is basically a box with a code and some leaflets. Everyone who wants to play GW2 needs to install HoT, no matter if you buy it or not. As a matter of fact. It is allready in the game (hence why beta players dont have to install anything). The only thing the code does is granting your account access to this area.
So yes, it might as well been allready shipped. It is not the time consuming part of it anyways.
I agree that digitally is the way they prefer it to be sold. The money goes directly to NCSoft’s and Arenanet’s pockets instead of retailers also making a profit on it.

eles have a spectrum of elemental skills which others don’t have.
That spectrum of skills is still set around a single weapon. You like the staff fireskills, but like the D7D water skills more?? suck it up, cause you can’t mix those. With weaponswapping you can choose the flavours you can swap to. With ele, it is only a choice for all ice in the bowl and no mix ’n match.
Weaponswap between 4 weapons would be a serious disbalance of the game and make ele’s and engineers in a bad spot cause they can’t

As the current client is still in Beta, I doubt to see a full release candidate for Mac.
All in all, the audiance is relative small. Most pc- gamers game on windows.
(and in before the remarks that it is still in Beta. contrary to popular believe, a beta-product doesn’t automatically incline there will ever be a full product. It means it is reasonable good enough to support it as best effort, but no garanteed support is possible at this point.)

Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]

I wouldn’t rule out an end-of-year release. However, I’d imagine that there’s considerable expectation from NCSoft and ANet management for a release date designed to maximize Christmas present purchases. Based on that, I’d guess on release before Black Friday.
The first beta weekend for core came in late April to early May. Release was in late August, 3.5 to 4 months later. The first HoT BWE is on early August, so late November represents approximately the same time period between 1st BWE and launch.
I wouldn’t put too much on the date of the beta weekend compared to the date with the core game. There are several reasons for this.
1: core game had a lot new mechanics. HoT is build on existing and proven technologies.
2: core game didn’t had an closed beta as wide as HoT had, that one is allready several months ago now. Most new elements they want to test have allready be tested.
3: no need to do stress tests
Looking at the announcement of this BWE, it seems they just want to see if the improvements work and if so, they are ready to put the date out. I still expect a release before halloween.

Personally I like how they stay aways from dungeons.
Don’t get me wrong. The ones we have…I like them alot.
The thing that bothers me bout it is though that if you ask anyone what an mmo is, the answer is always: an open world game where you play with others in the same map (or something in simular wording). But the main feature for challenging content is always instanced (dungeons, trials, raids). so why call it an mmo if the core is instanced??
I like how they are experimenting with solutions to this issue.
Do I think they should make everyone open world?? hell no!. It would only mean that big blob zergs are ganking everything that would have been potentially challenging. But just reverting to the trusted dungeon styles is wrong too. If Arenanet is good at anything, it is changing the market for the better. I hope the challenging group content will be just that. I also hope that’s why we don’t know yet what it is: meaning it is so renewing that they don’t want the competition to know bout it till it hits.
Knowing Arenanet, dont expect what they allready did in the past, but expect them to surprise you.

Either way we know the dragon dies so if you fight with dragon your gonna lose
I somehow doubt this to be honest.
From a normal story perspective, you would be right. But looking at the way Arenanet usually handles protagonists and antigonists (e.g. the prophecys story where you allie yourself with the white mantle, only to find out they are the bad guys, only to find out they work with mursaat who are more bad, to find out they are actually the guys stopping the real bad guy!). And also looking how the theory of all was put in season two, I think they are trying to prepare us for yet another switch in the tale. It all points that elder dragons are a thread, but also needed for the balance in the world.
