Windows 10 - Graphic Issues [merged]

Truly…if you allready had these issues in windows 8, it doesnt seem that windows 10 or GW2 is causing problems, but your computer is.

with that, I don’t mean just the hardware, but the entire setup. I’ve dealt with computers all my life and with these kind of complaints the first thing I would check is when you last did a clean install and check what kind of background programs are running. After that I would take a look at drivers.

I had a very simular problem and it was connected to my SSD. I was fixed by updating my SSD-firmware and running it in AHCI-mode instead of IDE-mode. The later is a setting in the BIOS, but keep in mind that windows 7 or before doesnt include the driver for AHCI-devices if you didnt have one when you installed windows.

Store GW2.dat data directly on filesystem?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Nope, it would not be possible.

To explain why. the dat-file is more then “just” a file containing all other files. It is also a database (hence the word .dat). It is used to contain the thousands of textures, sounds, models and have it reachable in a quick and easy way.

Any file system handles this differently and a .dat is the way to make sure it is universal and can be handled by any system.

While filesystems try to mimic the effects of a database, it is never as good as a real one cause it is made for a much broader scope. The dat-file database is made for one goal.

Healer + Tank, ever a possibility?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

There are dozens of games with those boring roles. GW2 is better cause it is different.

The question is why you never liked the dps classes. I think it is your own set mindset is blocking you from actually seriously exploring it. If you put in your head that something is bad, then it will be bad.

GW2 doesn’t have trinity. This means there are no dedicated tanks, no dedicated healers AND no dedicated DPS.

The reason that there is so much focus in talks bout the game bout DPS is cause survivabillity is easy, but easy doesnt mean it doesnt exist. Each player has to be their own tank and their own healer, while dealing dps. Just the fact that this isn’t hard to achieve, doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

Your issue is not the lack of those roles, but that you find the game too easy.

Why no gemstore updates?

i log in for the dailys and to check on a few sales and to do a bit of daily crafting, then off to another game i go… Im bored with the current content, so i have chosen to play a different game until they release more. I would suggest that those who are bored do the same. It will make the void of the hype a heck of alot easier to manage as your mind is on another game.

Ye I’m too. I’ve actually didn’t do the dailies either for the last three weeks and only got the login reward. The only reason I’ve picked it up this week is cause of the beta this weekend and to have a lil bit the gameplay feel back when it starts

Why no gemstore updates?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

As that_shaman said, it’s been 42 days since we got a Gemstore update. I think everyone was used to getting new stuff every 1-2 weeks so I just wondered if anyone knew of a reason or had heard anything why it hadn’t been updated in such a while?

We can only speculate, but doing so a few things we do know:
1: the gemstore is to create revenue between releases.
2: they are preselling HoT and it is what they prefer us to purchase
3: last weeks/months before a release are the bussiest.

So all in all I think they prefer us to purchase HoT than spend our money on the gemstore right now and also they are very bussy finishing HoT.

Personally I would like them to put up some HoT teaser stuff on it. It wouldnt limit HoT sales itself and it follows the current hype.
For example a Jade construct miniature

There was a minor bugfix patch 18 hours ago. the bugs fixed doesnt seem so big they couldnt wait for a big patch 18 hours later. Further. The last months there only have been patches once every few weeks (not counting bugfixes). For example. there was one on July 7 and the next one after that was on July 28. So 3 weeks apart. I dont expect any patch or bugfix today.

Build Slots and multi equipment/weapon sets

It has been proposed a lot and I’m personally a bit against it, specially if it is copy-pasted from the gw1 system.

The issue I always had with the GW1 system is that people take a premade build from some kind of website, put it on and have no clue at all what it does, why it works and how it works.

I believe the best builds are those you made yourself. It is perfectly ok to get inspiration from others, but fine-tweaking it to your personal preferences helps to make it fit perfectly for your style. The minimum is that people should understand their build.

so while im all up for a way of saving builds. It should be for personal use only and not the old txt-file you could share

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I personally think that there are several good systems that would work to bypass the negatives of RNG. But I don’t see them working right now cause it comes down on judging what item is a lucky item and what isn’t.

to explain a small example. The game currently sees the pile of putrid essence as equall (in value) as a charged lodestone. Reality is that the value of a charged lodestone is much higher.

The problem with RNG is not the RNG itself. it is that some items can only be found by RNG and are so rare they are extremely high priced. Luck is a bad rewardsystem for a game.

In my system there would change a few things. The first is that RNG only drops items that are not extreme rare. So all things that drop from foes should atleast drop once every 10 hours of active gameplay. Anything that drops less should not drop at all.

The second thing to change would be the exit of karma. Not all of a sudden, but slowly by just stopping to reward it. currently karma is used in parts of legendaries, certain gearsets and for some minor items like food. These food items could actually be moved to RNG-drops. As for the rest:

The thrid thing would be the introduction of a replacement currency for karma. You gain it in the same way as karma, the only difference is that you can purchase non-accountbound items (bound on equip) with it and. This includes the very rare RNG-items (including precursors). This means that getting a precursor requires you to play the game (a lot) and not just dumb luck.

Why not just keep karma? the reason is that it will increase the usefullness of karma a lot. till now a lot of people have been stacking it. This would be an advantage that is too big.

How to prevent trading newkarma for gold and vice versa??
The way to fix this is by recognising three stages of a product in game.
1: raw materials
2: intermediate goods
3: end products

While raw materials and (most) endproducts are sellable for gold. intermediate goods are not. the things you can buy with newkarma would always be intermediate goods. You can mix them with raw materials (dropped by RNG) to create end products. The end products have a gold value (except for certain items you dont want on the market like the karma skins), but the intermediate goods only have value for the crafter.

So for example (filling in some random numbers). to make a legendary you still need a lot of raw materials to make the 3 gifts as well as a precursor. The precursor can be bought for e.g. 2,000,000 karma and will be accountbound. Only if you also get the raw materials and actually craft the legendary, you will be able to craft a legendary.

Why this “newkarma”. The idea behind it is that RNG is bad for extreme rare items. This is a system where you can choose your own reward instead of getting a lotteryticket as a reward. You can use your newkarma on small nitbits all the time, or you can spare it up to buy something big. For those who want to be lucky, I’m all up for still having a lottery with tickets you can buy with newkarma (take the halloween raffle as an example).

Just my two cents.

Can sending large gold sums receive ban?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

What if i transferred the gold to a shared guild bank and took it out with another character? Would that work ?

Accounts never got banned for sending large sums of gold. However, buying gold with real money is agaisnt the rules and an offense. That is why sending and recieving large sums of gold is suspicious.

Besides the block of 500g per week, it is likely that accounts that sent/recieve large sums will be flagged suspicious. How this works and what triggers this flag is unknown. anway of avoiding getting flagged only gives you the risk that it looks more suspcious IF a GM would review it.

bottom line. If you have legit reasons to sent large sums of gold (within the weekly limit) go ahead, but don’t try to hide it.

I put together a fix for a pretty nasty performance issue on our game servers. This should make it into our next release so I’d be curious to see if it makes a noticeable improvement. The bug looks like it was introduced around when this thread popped up.

I also got a couple client improvements that should help reduce framerate hitching with lower-mid range video cards and/or higher shader settings. Coming next release, too.

-Bill

Are DX11 and/or 64-bit clients a pipe dream. or are they something that ANet might be willing to look into after HoT? A performance patch would do the game good in lieu of the next feature pack.

I would be very dissapointed if they would waste time in a 64 bits client.
It is a waste of time.

to explain why and take away an important misconception and difference between situations. Lets put down two (current) situations:

1: Running a 32 bits process (aka program) on a 32 bits system limits the entire system to 4 GB memory.
2: running a 32 bits process on a 64 bits window limits that single process to 4 GB of memory.

In the first situation, where windows is allready using 2 GB of memory, the rest of the entire system is limited to 2 GB max, giving a game like GW2 maybe 1 GB of memory. That makes the lack of memory the bottleneck and severely limits the performance.

If you look at the second situation, the game is limited to 4 GB in total (a lot more) and the lack of memory is no longer the bottleneck. The bottleneck for GW2 now is the fact that it is a big single process and so is handled by a single core (make your other 3-7 cores workless). As making the client 64bits, doesn’t change this, it will also no improve performance at all. Just as DX11 (that mainly exist tot support 64 bits processes) is not improving performance at all cause it is not the lack of memory thats an issue, but the cpu itself.

I purchased the HoT deluxe edition through the gem shop using a debit/credit card, not the website. The basic and ultimate were also available here. On the home page of the gem shop was an advertisement on the right side for HoT and clicking that opened a new transaction window to choose which version of the expansion I wanted to pre-purchase. After buying it the advertisement no longer shows up in the gem shop and the deluxe edition upgrade under ‘upgrades’ tab is showing I had purchased it. It’s possible they changed it some time after I purchased it through the gem shop. Order #T8XX5C86

As for the OP, I came to see if there was any advice I could offer. Unfortunately I don’t have any since it’s all been said already. Sorry.

I think it is a bit based on wording and what you count as the gemstore. As I read it, Gailes gemstore is the ingame store where you can buy things using gems. While your gemstore is the entire first option in the Black Lion Trading company that is labelled gemstore, but offers the HoT expansion without the offer to buy them with gems.

[suggestion] QoL and daily's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

First off all. I’m mostly into PvE. So if you got suggestions for PvP and WvW dailies go ahead, but I’m not into that.

I like the current daily system, but think for the PvE side it could do with some QoL improvements.

1: keep tasks balanced. I dislike fractals. I understand that you want people to try it and put it in as a daily, but keep it to 1 per day max. That way people who don’t like fractals have other ways of doing it.

2: world bosses. I absolutly love them, but the startermap ones only spawn once every 2 hours and for the others it is even longer. I think this waiting time is too long. If it is the daily there are more then enough people who wants it and needs it. So put a bit of programming in that if the worldboss is the daily, he spawns once every 30 minutes. For the ones in startermaps every quarter to the hour and past the hour. For the others every full and half hour. That way the existing timers don’t get upset.
Bonuspoints: add a timer with the next spawn time to the achievementwindow for that achievement.

3: map population and event completionist.
The megaserversystem now is set to make a good map population for world bosses, people doing guildmissions, people travelling for personal story, people going for world completion and people doing events. When a map is the daily for events. Everyone is doing those events and cause of the scaling cap for non-group events, it is awefull to get hits in and do the events. My suggestion is to change the megaserversystem on the maps that got this daily (on that day only) in such a way that new shards are made much faster (I would say 25% of what it is now). That way there are less people on the same map and events are not done so quickly and people got time to actually put hits in to participate.

Off course this means that 2 and 3 will collide with eachother. so also make a rule that certain worldbosses can’t be the target on the same day as certain map completionists (so no jungle wurm daily when it is caledon forest events daily)

Any thoughts bout my suggestions or got any of your own?? feel free to share them!

The reason I said warriors has a skillcieling is indeed that they are easy to play and to master. That also means there is lil need to excell in your tactic and in your type of play. The way the health recovery works and how the burst system works means you have lil variation to being succesfull. So overall it is easy to be great, but almost impossible to excell as a warrior.

engineer is a bit of an oddball. The reason I didn’t advice it to you is cause it lacks movement a lot. The main reason is turrets. They are pretty powerfull and among the more powerfull skills, but it is what it is. Once placed, it doesn’t move so you are then stuck to the radius of the turret. It got therefor more room for excelling. The “art” of finding good placement for turrets is almost endless. As you mentioned yourself. don’t worry bout the lack of weapons. worry bout the lack of quality in the weapons. Kits are superior and cause they take a utilityslot, most people don’t want to use more then 1 kit. The weapon itself is of limited use. It is something I hope is going to be fixed with the engineers specialisation in the upcoming update. So if that and the lack of mobility is not so much an issue for you go ahead, but had to warn you bout it cause it where things you described.

“As I understand it, it’ll go through mobs instead of just stopping at my target (normal skills.)”

That is correct.

" Do I have to target the furthest mob or targeting the nearest mob will also hit the mob behind it in a straight line?"

It doesn’t matter as long as the second mob is on the same line as you and the mob you are have targeted.

Imagine it as an AoE in the form of a strait line. Everything it is in the AoE area (the line in this case) gets hit.

Conditions Intensified

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I’m curious bout the balance part, but all in all, it makes a lot of sense. It also means that besides power, precision and ferocity,, stats like condition damage gets more viable. This should show a rise of sinister and rampagers gear. In the end it can go three ways:
1: they get the balance right. Sinister deals the same amount of dps as zerker and people choose gear based on thier build (lots of conditions, then you go sinister, lots of direct damage you take zerker.
2: they overbalance and conditions are superior to direct damage. The result is that Sinister is the new zerker and the issue only moved onwards.
3: Zerker stays superior compared to sinister. Cause conditions scale more off the stats then before, it means an increase of the zerkermeta. Conditions become even less viable compared to direct damage and instead of taking on sinister gear, people will drop conditions from thier builds in favor for direct dps.

So the key here will be the balance..

Cantha & Elona

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Anet already said that they will not do a Cantha themed release. Its partly due to their Asian customers I think. Elona might be entirely possible though.

Do you have any quote for this??

The reason I’m asking is that I hear this often and so far I only heard the Canthan district story in DR.

What happened there was that, just like the Elonian district, there was also a Canthan district in Lion’s Arch. One of the big shots at NCSoft was making comments bout this being offensive cause they where mixing asian cultures there. Cause it was too close to launch to change a lot, they decided to come up with the big hole story that destroyed the entire district and made it sink into the ground. This hole was later turned into the fighting pit and the crown pavilion. The critsism was not that it was asian, it was the mixture of styles and the person responsable doesn’t work at NCsoft anymore. So all in all I don’t see it as a limitation (though my previous opinion stands).

The Legend

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Question: Do you want bitfrost?

If the answer is yes, then make it.

If you don’t want it you are better off selling the legend at some points. The question is if it is better to sell it now or later. With the expansion there are three possible outcomes.

a: (existing) precursors will go up in price. This might happen if the existing precurors are used in crafting the new legendary’s, but that is pure speculation. There is no indication that it happen.
b: they go down in price. The expansion will have precursor crafting as a mastery track. This might mean that obtaining a precursor will become easier, the later is speculation, but the mastery track is confirmed.
c: they stay the same in price.

Only if it would be a (the price goes up), it would be profitable to sell later. But looking at the current facts it is more likely to be b (price goes down) or c (pricer stays the same), cause we know that mastery track is coming.

all in all, it is speculation, but given the things we know now for sure, it is more likely better to sell it now.

Cantha & Elona

At this point in time it doesn’t make sense to go to Cantha or Elona.
Mordremoth is in the maguuma jungle building his “empire”
Jormag is in the far shiverpeaks building on his corruption there.
Kralkatorix is in the crystal desert.
bubbles is in the deep sea
Primordus is in the depths of tyria underground.

It is possible that with kralkatorix we also enter the desolation, but given his location, I doubt that his content will reach further into Elona.

It is possible that primordus or bubbles move or have moved to Cantha or Elona, but even if it is so, it doesn’t make sense on making content there while Tyria (the continent) is still so far undiscovered.

To be honest. I hope they don’t go to Elona or Cantha at all. It is not that I disliked the area’s, but I’m much more interested in finding new places like the charr homeland (the one to the east, not the eotn part, which is just a small part of thier lands) and the area north and east of giant basin. I prefer to explore new things, instead of remade area’s.

Suggestions about trollers' portal

So many trollers these days using portals in eotm. I believe certain players are reported several times because of this and yet they still come and troll. If it’s not possible to ban them for trolling like this then plz make it impossible to take portals created by blocked players so that we can simply block them and ignore their words & portals.

It is not against the end user agreement to make portals that leave to nothing or certain death. So it is not a bannable offense and reporting them means you are wasting the time of support from dealing with real issues. I would like to point out that making false reports is a banable offense too. in this situation I don’t think that you should be banned, but please understand that your personal frustration or anger is no reason to report a player.

Never take a portal that you don’t know where it leads. it is that simple. No need to get arenanet involved in something that simple.

Considering this and the reveal rates, the game will be launched between september to december and cost ~50 US dollars

Daewoo has made the same prediction for 2014 and 2013. They have proven every report that they are wrong. The moment they don’t predict an expansion, I think it is a good omen it is near.

This is nothing against Daewoo. They are advicing potential investors. Those people don’t care bout an expansionpack. Which Zone design is your favorite?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There is an assumption that HoT will be only like the silverwastes. This is made cause of observations during the stresstest and the beta. But the meta went away when you wouldt approach the western border of the part of the map accesable. To me this is a sign that it is only limited to that part of the map. With 3 layers of maps, that is less then 15% off the entire map. So I think it is a wrong assumption that it will be the same as the silverwastes.

What I expect and hope is a diverse zone where the different layers are providing different interests. The silverwastes is nice, but too one dimensional. The maze and the jumping puzzle where great additions there, but not for long term entertainement.

I would like to see a jumpingpuzzle mark 2. The silverwastes one is a good start, but with kites and mushrooms you got so much more potential. Also the teleports (skrittholes) could be used to make the puzzle actually change everyday. This can be done by replacing the coins with the skrittholes (or something simular that teleports you). the place it teleports to is changed everyday and the puzzle should have atleast 100 different routes, depending on the setup of the holes. That way everyday you got a new challenge to find the price at the end.

So I hope and am possitive that the Silverwastes was a good experiment to take the content in HoT to the next level. how exactly?? I don’t know, but I’m hopefull it is diverse and multi-dimensional both in space and time!

Personally my suspicion is that they reveal that they are going to reveal something big at E3

Looking at the strenght and mount of people going to E3 on behalf of Arenanet, I suspect we get an announcement there. Maybe a release date? Who knows.

But they likely want a lot of players at E3. This means that it would make sense that they give us more info. You might also have noticed that the game loader has been behaving differently. They now have a moment where you pass the “playable” point. Beyond that it was still loading 75% more of the update. As that is not needed to play I suspect they are putting more HoT stuff in and making it ready for a more extensive playable beta during E3

So I suspect the reveal this week is bout thier pressence at E3.

What is Endgame to you guys?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Endgame is a term used for many wrong things. To understand the meaning of the term you have to look at the reason why it exist. As I never played WoW seriously (although I understand it is simular there) I’ll use lord of the rings online as an example.

In that game, you got a levelling game. That is the content you play when you are trying to get max level. This is different content then the content you play when you reached the levelcap. The reason is that when you you level, you outgrow maps and tasks. They are still there, but you one-shot everything. it gives no xp, progress or loot.

Cause it happened that the game at max level was very different then the game while levelling, it became an important question for buyers: “how is the endgame”.
This means they ask how is the content you play at max level.

Why this introduction. The first is cause GW2 is different. There is no content vanishing for you when you level up. You only unlock more things to do, but besides the tutorial-instance, there is no content that get’s locked for you when you progress. This means that the answer to the question bout the content you play at max level is that it is the enitre game that is playable at max level.

Now there are two issues here. The first is that people have wrong idea’s bout endgame and start claiming that GW2 has no endgame. That is simply not true if you follow the correct meaning of the word.

The second issue is that players of those old type of MMO’s are so used to outgrowing area’s they rush to max level, look at the content for max level, and decide that there isn’t anything. They do however forget to look back at all the stuff they skipped.

So the true question is..What do you do to have fun at max level.
The answer is that a lot of people are bored. The game didn’t had any refreshing content in months and we are really waiting for the expansion so have new things to do.

On top of that, some people find the game not challenging enough. For me it is just fine and I like the approach of Arenanet that all content should be doable for all players. I think there are plenty of games around that are more challenging and I wish there where more like GW2

So please use the correct terms. But to answer the question.
I’m currently doing my daily. then I log off and into another game (ESO) and have fun there. When the expansion pack hits I’ll likely be playing more GW2 again. The game is clearly on a break when it comes to content, so I am too.

Can the old login screen be a thing again?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

There is no old login screen…
The clip is showing a screen used in an early beta version. As this never has been the login screen for the live-game, it is also not the old screen.

Why didn’t this make it to the real game?
There must be a reason right? it looked way cooler.
The likely reason is that it is a security risk. That login screen was part of the game window. That means that hacking tools can target it directly. In the current situation, where the login is on a separate window, the gameclient itself doesn’t know anything bout your username and password. It only knows that the loginwindow has verified you and you are ok. That makes the current situation much more secure.

So as a loginscreen it is unlikely this will ever be introduced cause it means less security.

This doesn’t mean this should be abanded at all. I do believe this should be the ingame timeout screen (without the fields obviously).

currently when you time out, you go to the loginscreen. You have to remember what character you where on and click that character. It would make more sense to go to this screen. When you click anywhere, you will load back into the game, on the character you where on.

Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I have had enough teasing. I have heard enough about world vs world, PvP, class changes, core changes, spec changes, item changes, UI changes, bug fixes, and combat changes. I am not willing to hear any more teasing. I can only take so much without a day to look forward to.

I want to hear about a release date. That is it. Simple. Give us a date. I will even sign a petition to the devs to hear a tentative release date. Just give us a date. It is not a very large request.

official statement
We really didn’t want to do this, but as we get demands like this more and more often, we now announce the date we are certain that we can release the game at this point in time. The date is:

28 september 2019

(it was likely possible to release earlier, but as you forced us to reveal a date now, it has to be this one). Have a nice day!

Class choice please help (i've searched)

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

To go through it point by point:

1: Mesmer, necromancer, thief and engineer are good roaming classes. But the others can do it well too.

2: reading fora it seems there is a lot of elitism bout dungeons, but there really isn’t that much. Class discrimination is very rare and all classes have a good chance of getting into a group. Necromancers experience a bit more classdiscrimination then others, but again, not much.

3: Most content doesn’t require to be in a group.-There is content that require a larger group of players, but no need to group up for them . e.g. when soloroaming, and you see your zerk capping a keep, you are free to join in just for that.

4: most mobility imo is the thief and the mesmer. They can cloack and use that to escape a fight.

5: only rangers and warriors have a somewhat solid skillceiling. The rest can excell, while also being viable at lower skills.

Most important though is not too worry too much. All classes are good and viable. Reading between the lines I think thief is best for you, but it is not as set in stone as you might think.

Will they ever show the new legendaries

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

We don#t know if they will show the new legendary’s. I think they will not. If I remember correctly, when GW2 released, they didn’t show the legendary’s or the recipes. We jsut had to find out how to make them. Off course the skins where datamined early on.

It depends a lot on how far you are with your legendary and how set you are on your choice. If you always have been set on it then there is no reason to wait. If you always had doubt or switched a few times, it might be good to wait.

The monitor resolution has no influence in the game speed. This is purely at spec on the monitor which is end of the line (so not influencing how well the components before that are doing). It does matter a lot on the quality of the graphics though.

End game for new expac

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

First off, pls stop using the term endgame. It is a term not even closely relating to GuildWars2.

Endgame is a term used in traditional MMO’s used to describe the content you play at max level. The reason is that when levelling in those games you outgrow content. Cause in GW2 you don’t outgrow content cause of the scaling system, the entire game is endgame.

Looking at the way you are asking things…the term you are looking for is challenging content.

As for that. The word challenging is always subjective. GW2 is not a hardcore challenging game. So do not expect HoT to be any different. The content will be doable by most players so if you find the current game unchallenging, you likely will find HoT unchallenging too.

You should have pretty decent FPS during most content at max graphics. During WvW zerk vs zerk and world boss fights you might have to tune down the graphics to keep it playable. The last is something that is unavoidable with your budget on a laptop.

The game run out of content when you are 80?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

All I see is that when you are 80 you have the PvP which is cool, but its kinda lame if you compare it to other games (to clerifty, the PVP here is the best ive seen in any mmo in my life, but I mean, in other mmos when someones reaches lvl 80 he gets more kinds of game content that is not available to everyone else)

sidenote – guild wars 2 forum managers please let us write titles longer than 45 letters, i have to give up on words and the title looks weird

Those opther game locks you out of content. You got starterzones, but when you visit them, all foes are one shotted, don’t give loot and no experience. GW2 has a a scaling system so you still have (compared to other games) challenging fights in starterzones and still gain XP. The loot is for your real level.

So in essence, at level 80 you unlocked the entire game. Including dungeons, worldbosses, fractals, jumping puzzles, etc.

Can my friend get banned for ....

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

My understanding is that Anet do not involve themselves in arrangements like this between players, or any type of trading between players.

If you send gold to someone and they promise to pay it back later, or send you an item later or even send you something in return right away, then you’re doing it at your own risk.

Unless the person loaning the gold could prove that your friend had scammed them in some way (and I mean scammed, not “I promise I’ll pay you back”, more something like “Hey there’s this bug where if you send gold to me and I log off at the moment it arrives you’ll get the gold back and then I can send the mail back and you’ll have double your gold, come on, try it!”*) Anet won’t do anything, even if they reported it.

*In case anyone’s unclear this is not a real bug or even a real scam. It’s something I made up just now for this post. Please don’t try it because it won’t work.

This is incorrect info. If one makes a trade and doesn’t come through with their end of the bargain, and does that on a regular base, Arenanet will take action against that person. You are confused with that they don’t refund the item to the victum. The reason for that is that Arenanet wants people to use the tradepost.

But if people scam on a regular base, they will get in trouble.

GW2 = Stagnent

mercury ranique.2170

As above. If you insist on playing an MMO, I an suggest ESO. After a rough and messy start, the game has csystalized to a very mature MMO, that takes a very different approach by making a hybrid between a traditional mmo and the elder scroll games.
Since a few months it is buy to play, just as GW2 and more then enough for a good amount of fun.

No monthly fees means easier to switch and play other games as well!

Is HoT required to access Guild Halls?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

As I recall Guild Halls will be released with HoT. Does that mean that you would have to buy the expansion to get access to them?

The release of guildhalls is pure specualtion. It was one of the most major outcomes of the CDI and that is now a while ago. So people only asume that it will likely be released together with HoT.

Looking at GW1, there where guildhalls released with the different campaigns, but access was not restricted to those with the campaigns, just membership of the guild.

Transfering to a full server

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

1: looking at your posting history here, it might be that you are a returning player??
If that is correct I would like to point out that server choice only matters now for WvW. For PvE and for sPvP, the game is now on two mega servers (one in the EU and one in NA). So if you have no interest in playing WvW with your friend, you can choose any NA server. Whenever you are in a party, you will always be on the same shard for PvE and sPvP (just staging area, the creating of arenamaps is done by the matchingsystem anyways). Sometimes it happens that you don’t but then you simply rightclick the persons portret in the party window and choose “join in”.

2: If your really want and need to be on tarnished coast, keep in mind that it is one of the most popular servers in NA and openings are very rare. The time when there is least activity and the best window of opportunity is between 5 and 6 AM EST (11-12AM CET). Teh reason is that the westcoast is then going to bed (2am there) and the eastcoast early birds are not awake yet, so only the sleepless and the other people not from NA are there.

How I think dungeon skipping can be fixed

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Skipping is intended.

That creature was put there specifically to be avoided. It’s on a long patrol path around the temple, and easy to avoid. In a similar fashion, if you stop to fight a patrolling knight, you’re likely to have another one wander in during the fight, then another, etc. Not every story step is “Destroy every enemy on the map”.

No skipping is not inteded either. That isn’t even part of a dungeon but a story.

While that was specifically referring to a mob in a story, Robert Hrouda did say that some mobs/groups were meant to be “traps” and were best avoided in dungeons as well.

It comes down to a matter of rewards. A simple green is not enough to be worth clearing a large amount of trash in most dungeons. However, in CM, several groups ARE worth it because the bags they drop give large amounts of cotton, wool, and linen. An extra 2-4 minutes of killing time over 3 paths for 1-2g worth of extra cloth mats can be worth it.

Places like GW1 Urgoz, Deep, and parts of the Underworld and DoA were worth it because of the chance of valuable mats. Even then, it mattered what you skipped and what you killed, for time and safety reasons.

An equivalent to that in GW2 would be things like:

  • “Vanquisher” rewards for clearing a whole dungeon – though this would need proper balancing which is not even the case for dungeon gold rewards. This would also have to be very lucrative to full clear some dungeons (Arah especially, but also CM and TA forward).
  • Mobs in dungeons that would normally be skipped would have to have higher chances to drop rares or valuable mats. Again, it’ll come down to a time vs. reward ratio as to whether it’s worth it or not.
  • Dungeon mobs that can drop loot all have a chance to drop extra tokens, like mobs in Urgoz that could all drop Amber. The rate would have to be pretty good to be worth it.
  • Make sure all dungeon mobs had worthwhile bags or materials drops. Much of the CM trash (but again, not that huge room past Victoria) is worth it because of how much valuable cloth materials are available in the bags.

It has nothing to do with rewards, but with freedom, if you would have quoted me correctly and read my entire post (instead of quoting totally out of content and showing you didn’t even took the time to read what I sad beyond that one line), you would have known that.

It is not designed to be skipped just as much as it isn’t designed to be killed. It is there to do with them whatever we want. If you (and your party) wants to kill them all, go ahead. If you don’t and want to skip, go ahead too. We aren’t supposed to do anything in the game, we have the freedom to do stuff the way we want to do it.

changing droprates would only shift the “most profitable and therefor most commonly followed” concensus, even to the point that people don’t even bother bout end rewards in dungeons anymore.

As said by others, there is nothing broken, so don’t fix it.

Lions Arch may 19 update

in Living World

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Do not really care about the real world here, because we dont have to deal with the same issues people in the real world do for trying to rebuild. I was expecting LA to start being rebuilt when donations started being collected, that didnt happen though, but its happening now and i dont want to have to donate more to see LA fixed

See my point now? i dont truly mind how long it took, what i do not want is to have to do more after donating so much the first time

Funny…I didn’t donate money for LA to be rebuild. I donated money so kitten-kitten-tron would finish his event and move on to the next

Reality is that rebuilding LA shouldnt cost a thing and really doesn’t. The money sink might have been connected to the rebuilding in a lore-way, but it has nothing to do with mechanics.

I would be against a system where rebuilding was done with more money sinks. But a nice minigame or events to get lion’s Arch more active would be welcome.

So let me get things straight….You are complaining that one of the more viable PvP classes for a tanklike role (guardian), should be even more viable by giving it more and better CC??

Every class has a strong balance that it has strong points and counters to those strong points. This thiefs strongpoint is a counter to the guardian. All is very balanced. Don’t expect wins to be slapped into your face.

My friend borrowed some gold (she even said borrow to him) from a friend and said she will try and pay it back saturday. If she don’t pay it back saturday can she get banned? she did say she will pay it back as soon as she can.

Thank you!

Judging on the thing you are saying here, the answer is no. It is just your side of the story, so support can judge differently. A ban for scamming is given only after reviewing an account severly. A single incident that might be interpetated as scamming is not often the result of a ban.

What if me and my friend share the same computer? (2 different accounts but same computer) will my account get banned if her’s does? >.<

and behallagh, this is her first time ever borrowing gold.

Typically they ban accounts and not IP’s. In very rare and severe cases they can do an IP-ban. This typically happens when people keep on making new accounts and continue bad behaviour. So in your case. Don’t worry at all!

[GoM] Thinking of starting WvW, advice?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

“Is Teamspeak/Vent/Mumble recommended/required for WvW?”
Not required, but it is recommended. Specially if you have no clue what is going on.

“Is it wise to run in my PvE gear in WvW?”
Depends on the geartype, but running full zerker is not recommended and WvW meta buils are different then PvE meta builds.

“Where does WvW stand rewards-wise (loot, achievements, titles, skins, etc.)”
I would say it is a bit between open world PvE and dungeons. The reward system is simular to the silverwastes, but the amount of chests you get is lower.

“Would I have to invest long stretches of time to the game mode to achieve anything, or to have any sort of fun? There are days where I have little time to play, and with college coming up after summer…”
It is PvP. So experience is vital in being succesfull. Then again, running with the zerk is easy and “meat” to fill in the zerg is always welcome. Just don’t expect to be allowed on a ram without spending WvW points on the track. To do those “special” tasks you are required to invest time to put in points into it.

“Lastly, I hear a lot about transferring servers to get ‘better fights/more wins’. What’s the deal with this?”

https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/wvw
The matches are based on the standign on the leaderboard and on a system to make you face different enemy’s each week.
So when playing on GoM, you will likely never face a top tier word like JQ or TC. Cause (some) people prefer to win, the top tier worlds are much more popular. The result is that WvW in those matches is much more bussier and of a different level. This effect is increased by the tournaments (twice per year, although the last one is over 6 months ago). The winners of a tournament get better rewards then the losers. Here it is however slightly different cause there are three leagues. If I am correctly, GoM would currently be the 8th team in silver league. But if you drop one place on the ladder, you will be the highest ranking team in the bronze league. Cause that would increase the change your world has on winning significantly, the amount of people transferring to GoM would increase a lot.

Revenant Problem

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I’ve played revenant in the beta for 6 hours straight and don’t see your issue at all. There was only mallyx and Jalis available and only mace/axe and hammer (tried both). And there is no real synergy between any of the weapons and the legend-skills. But then again, no class has synergy between the utlitly skills and the weaponsskills, besides ocasional combo’s.

Reality in the current game (and nobody knows if that holds) is that on most classes only a few weapons are viable and only a few utility skills are. Most are viable cause of DPS, simply cause other things are not needed. As long as this stays the same (and personally I’m fine with that). The revenant will be the same that only strong dps legends and strong dps weapons will be meta. If this changes, then the revenant and the other classes will look at the forgotten skills. This has nothing to do with synergy, but with lack of choice in the current meta.

suggestions: preset keybindings and HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Agreed, keybinds should be saved per character, I’ve been wanting that since the game launched

As long as it’s optional. Having to change my keybinds every time I made a new character was something I hated in other games

In my proposal it is not optional (that is actually very hard to do cause when you got 4 characters, one with a different preset then the others, how should the game choose. which one is the preset you want). But as you can safe a preset in my proposal. So all you have to do with a new character is to go to the settings window, load up your preset and your done.
