Game-breaking driver crashes

try this
1: run command prompt as administrator (right click it and run as administrator)
2: type in the following lines and end each line with enter
sc stop “NvStreamSvc”
sc config “NvStreamSvc” start= disabled

Then test again.
This service is used to stream to nvidia shield tablets and possible for other things in the future. So if it didn’t solve it, or if you need it in the future you enable it as follow:

sc config “NvStreamSvc” start= enabled
sc start “NvStreamSvc”

If this doesn’t solve it, you might want to do a clean install of the nvdia driver. or revert to a previous one.

Rebindable Key for Gliding

unknown. I actually assumed it was tied to the jump-function (which I have at the default keybind of space), but your saying it is a different function?? I do hope it will get its own keybind then as well. All functions should have a keybind. Hope this serves as a reminder for the devs to do so before launch (if they didnt allready)

Extremely high ping

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Does anyone know any solutions to random bouts of extremely high ping?

For the past week the ping has been pretty stable, but for the last two days it’s been ranging from 600-2000ms.

I’m quite certain that it’s not my ISP due to the fact that everything else seems to be running smoothly.

If it’s the GW servers does anyone know how often this usually happens? I’m relatively new to the game and it’s a bit frustrating when it happens.

Just to explain a few things bout bad pings and the cause of.

See the internet as a global network of roads. You got highways and country roads. you got roundabouts and trafficlight junctions and multilevelled speedway junctions.
Your house is your computer. Arenanet has a bigger house, both with its own driveway.

The internetprovider is responsable for two things.
1: your driveway to the network of roads
2: the car (in internetterms the packet). This includes the tomtom (taken route)

Arenanet is responsable for one thing and can only control one thing: their driveway that connects to the network of roads. If your car wants to enter their server, they will not know untill it arrives there.

So only if everyone is having bad pings, it is the GW2 server. In all other cases it is either your driveway (if all traffic is slow on your end) or any of the roads or junctions on the way.

So you are right that it isn’t your driveway, but that doesn’t pleed the ISP not guilty. They are responsable for the route taken by the packets. So if they sent it over some country road, or over a busy junction, it is still their fault. Only if all possible roads are corrupted, they are off the hook.

However. Most providers see it as bad advertising to admit such a thing. So when you call your friendly callcenter agent (likely in India) he has a script saying that it is a problem with GuildWars 2. As they can’t do a thing bout it (they don’t even know you are on the way till you are there, so they also dont know bout delays), the issue would be unresolved.

However again. When things get out of hand, and a lot of people complain, it is that party that has the most to loose, that will take action. This case it will be GW2 (cause so many people keep repeating what the ISP-call script is saying and blame it on GW2). They contact the provider (or the owner of the faulty road or junction) and get it fixed for you. But to do so, they have to collect data bout the issue and also need a lot of pursasion on their end. There are no garantees here.

So you are too quick in not calling the blame on your ISP and too quick putting it on GW2’s head.

There is likely a change in the route taken or a defect in it, that is causing this, unless this defect is solved or the route improved, nothing much can be done bout it.

in the LFG there is an anti spam bug that often goes haywire. To solve this, wait a few hours and after that reboot the game (or wait 2 hours unbooted).

if you also experience problems when you click the party window and type in a name, there is something else wrong.

Too bad it has misinformation, such as the Ranger Pet Names issue.

I doubt any Devs will respond here; though, of course, one never knows for sure.

Good luck.

I think the author means that if you have a pet moa called e.g. “Cedo” and a pet bear called “Mercury” and you switch out “Cedo” for a hawk, it will inherit the name “Cedo”. If you then change it to be called “Gaile” and switch it to the moa again, it is still called Gaile.

However he calls that a bug, and that is wrong. It is a way how petnames are handled by the game. It can be done different, and this method lacks some immersion, but it functions properly so isn’t a bug, but just a feature that is in his eyes poor.

For the rest you don’t see a lot of examples. I also disagree that there are too many bugs around. I think the author is confusing choices made with bugs (just like the petnames). one can say that the game lacks diversity. But thats not a bug, but a opinion.
Same as the statement bout spirits. I even disgagree there are huge issues with them.

It shows a lot of entitlement, which is imo the main issue with the entire article. By calling things bugs and broken, he is claiming to be entitled to have a dev response. As these are choices made and not bugs nor broken, he is also not entitled to have such a response. (though devs, feel free to respond to it, not being entitled to it, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t

I also disagree with the lack of interaction. The problem is that a dev should stand for their choices. Going into the ranger forum and defending certain choices is recipe for dissaster. half of the complaints bout a class are not even justified cause they are based on people wanting to be invincable. So they have to be carefull in really interacting. But they do listen. They do share proposed changes and they do adept things based on that feedback. Just that it is not to everybody’s liking is a fact of life.

I hope that they don’t force it, either. But what can you do if they do? You can either stop playing or do it.
I have a dynamic IP, and from time to time I get asked to verify my login, already. I couldn’t imagine if I had to verify it further, as frequently, or more so.

It’s a system with faults (but what isn’t?). For some people it works, and they like it. I see no problem with that. For some people, it seems a bit much, and I see no problem with that, either. I definitely don’t see any point to bickering back and forth about it. Some people don’t mind it/like it. Some people don’t. What other people do with their information has no bearing on anybody’s lives but their own.

It is however more then just bickering back and forth or people who have issue like you or not. It is bout the fact that people still get hacked. Those people are the cause of goldspammers and bots in the game. The fact remain that people with two-way authentication are not as easy to be hacked. If a breach of security would just mean that your account is robbed empty, I wouldnt care if anyone would use two way authentication (except myself, cause I dont want to get hacked myself), but the problem is that an hacked account is harmfull for the community cause they are used for botting and hacking. So if you got hacked and I get pm-ed by your account with spam, it does hurt me.

That is why it should be enforced for everyone, even those who dont care bout their security themself.

As for the amount of time it happens. The game learns IP-ranges. I can iamgine (but not sure) they allow bigger ranges with 2 way authentication accounts. So then in your case it shouldnt be needed as often.
But more important. It is good practise by administrators of DHCP-services (the server giving a dynamic IP-adress). to make several smaller pools and segment your network. If an ISP isn’t doing that, I would have serious doubts bout the overall quality of the provider.

is legendary armour a new tier or not ?

The only reason they got weapon swap added (they didn’t launch with that) was from before the wardrobe. When you had to use a transmutation crystal to move the skin to another GS destroying the first set of stats in the process, which meant if you wanted to switch back it cost a 3rd GS, then a 4th, 5th, etc.
Expensive with exotics, just nuts with ascended.
Now that we have the wardrobe and the ability to apply the legendary skin to as many weapons as you want with no loss of gear it’s time for the stat swapping to go and legendaries restored to what they are supposed to be, and that is cosmetic ONLY.

No that is not the reason why stat swapping was added. It was added with the launch of ascended weapons.
to explain the situation before ascended weapons. You had transmutation crystals. (so although there wasn’t a wardrobe, you could swap skins). Legendary weapons had exotic stats and you could simply acquire a new exotic weapon and use a crystal to merge the legendary with the new stats. So with crystals you could use whatever stat you want, for the cost of an exotic weapon and a crystal.

When ascended weapons where launched. it was needed to upgrade legendary to those stats, but cause ascended weapons where a lot harder to obtain, it would loose the ease of changing stats on legendary. So the stat swap function was added.

So your point is invalid cause before and after the wardrobe introduction it was possible to put the skin on any weapon. It was implemented cause creating an ascended weapon just to change the stats on a legendary was too high.
I respect your opinion that legendary weapons should be cosmetic only (though I disagree), but the wardrobe didn’t change anything bout that. They made this decission. I find it a good one, you a bad one.

Yes, we’ve always been able to reskin it to another GS.
The problem was that when you did it in the old system you lost the old weapon.
Change from zerker to soldier? Zerker is now gone.
Not a huge deal with exotics but gets really expensive really fast with ascended.
Now, I want to switch from Zerker to Soldier I make a new GS, skin it with Sunrise.
Bam, I now have both swords skinned as Sunrise and can freely swap back and forth at no cost, which was the problem the swapping was meant to solve.
People didn’t think it was fair to sacrifice/destroy an ascended GS every time they wanted to swap stats, and it wasn’t, but now you no longer have to due solely to the wardrobe as I said, and it’s time for the stat swapping to go.

The selectable stats where not implemented on our demand, so looking into the reasons is difficult. So I would ask you to stop saying where we are entitled too. We don’t know the exact reason the devs had. It can be your reason, it can be (and that is more likely) cause the task to create an ascended weapon is too steep to ask for people who could change fairly easy, to no longer be able to that and go through a long and harsh grind.

I rather look at the arguments behind the reasons the devs had.

Do I think there is something wrong with a legendary weapon that is more then just a skin? no. For example. I do not own a legendary weapon, but I did unlock sunrise and twilight in my wardrobe. The reason is that I had all the gifts for sunrise and twilight. someone gave me dusk and dawn, and I created eternity. This was then passed along again (it was one of the two eternity’s people could win during pink day in LA last year). Did I earn twilight and sunrise?? no. should I therefor get the same as people who do owe the legendary? nope. Just one personal reason.

But I also look at what would be beneficial to the game. I bet if they would take away the statswapping now, it would make a lot of people angry. Specially cause the current situation has been around for over a year now (wardrobe was added in april 2014). So doing as you say would be dissatrous for the community.

So there is no real issue, the advantage isn’t unfair and removing the option now would be very harsh to those who earned a legendary.

So yes, you can click that little remind me later button every 5 logins.

I’ll have to check that out, because yesterday I seemed to get it every login.

But that still doesn’t answer the question is it going to be compulsory in the near future.

Anyway part of the issue for me is that the email address I use for GW2 is specific to GW2 and as such only me and Anet know what it is. Consequently I get no junk mails or any others on that email account other than official notifications. Not bad seeing it’s been the best part of 3 years, shows Anet at least respect their customers in that area. Hence why I’m not keen to give it to any 3rd party.

no two authentication system requires giving an emailadres to an outside source.

The winauth and the google authenticator works as follows:
The application knows your accountname (or emailadress, not sure). It only registers it and it is not sent to anyone. When you make a request, it is creating a code that is excrypted with a shared key (known only to the authenticator and the GW2 server), the accountname and the time/date stamp. This code is given to you and you type it into the client.
So there is no internet usage of the authenticator. it only stores data and uses it to generates the code. As the gameserver knows the same data, it can verify it is correct.

The SMS and landline call function work in a way that the server is sending a code through a separate channel (SMS or phonecall) you recieve it and it is typed into the client.

so in no situation your emailadres goes to a third party.

It does seem a little pricey, I’ll wait till it releases and see how much content it actually has :P.

Content has always been GW2’s problem at launch it was great, but it has had nothing new added to it in 3 years. There should be an expansion every year/18 months at max and by now we should be getting close to a new continent either Cantha or Elona, and already have a new class with this current one being the second.

The whole reason that players left and stopped playing myself included the content ran out and new stuff was never added. Which then means they lose players = less gem sales, no one recommends the game to their friends = no box sales then finally you go F2P to hopefully generate more gem sales. Problem is most people that play F2P have no money for gems which is why they are F2P in the first place.

There’s so much wrong with this post, I don’t even know where to begin. Way to generalize. lol

Edit: The fact is, once you said nothing has been added, you’ve lost any credibility you might have had. Now you might not like the stuff that was added, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. And some of it was temporary but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there.

And then believing most people feel like you do is just confirmation bias. You really don’t know how many people like it or don’t. Nor do you know how many people stayed or left. Until the expansion push, we were getting content releases and there was only minor rumbling on the forums about the pace.

Be realistic mate.

This game has remained largely unchanged in 3 years. I don’t know if you played at launch but I can tell you that this game has a fraction of the players it once had, fact.

Game is more active then ever and the list of changes is huge. Just cause those changes are not in your interest, doesnt make them non-existing.

Just to name a few:
Living world season 1 and 2
3 new world maps
1 new dungeon path
Wvw borderlands redesign
4 new PvP-maps
fractals
2 annual festivals
new central hub (LA)
1 map redecorated (kessex hills)
dozens of local changes in maps
new jumping puzzle
wardrobe
skill-balances
trait-system overhaul
NPE
etc etc etc.

This list can go on and on. The game is hugely different then at launch!

I just log in, I prefer it that way, been doing that in MMOs since 2004 and have never had any issue with security.

That sounds like famous last words!

Unless you’re moving all over the place and playing the game you should only need to authenticate once. Given that for an extra level of security, what do you have to lose?

It’s up to you though, of course.

I still don’t see why this game should be different to any other MMO I’ve played in those others it’s just an option.

But anyway I was under the impression you wouldn’t need to if your account was old, the login message seems to contradict that.

Looks like I’ll end up having to check with customer services.

At the moment you don’t need it.
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.
Although inconvinient, account security is important. Not only for your self, but also to keep the game clean. If your account gets hacked it will likely used for botting or spamming. That is also annoying for the rest of the playerbase. So having a two way authentication is very very important and the right thing to do. If you do not prefer SMS, feel free to use the other options like the authenticator app on a mobile phone, a landline phonenumber they can call with the code (do not be concerned with them sharing the number or misusing it for advertising, in the privacy policy it is stated they only use it for calling through the code, that means they are bound by that by law). Or last of all winauth (which is the least secure option).

It is allready said that for now old accounts are allowed to login without these measures, but there comes a time you have to choose one. As stated, as it is important for the entire game, better do it now.

I’m not talking bout wether or not it is convinient. I’m talking bout being entitled. You where rwrongly arguing your are entitled to have it in game. It is not. See it as feedback that, when making a point, entitlement is always wrong. The point you make is good and valid, ,but you are taking it down by a tone that is wrong. In fact with such a tone, you are actually making it less likely for Arenanet to listen and implement it.

Why there is no build management tools?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Why do people always thinking that if something isn’t in game, they refused to add it??
If I give you apples, and you make caramel apples out if them, did you refuse to make apple pie??
Why should I be entitled to have apple pie, just cause I gave you apples??
You choose to make caramel apples instead of something I gave you. Unless we agreed that you could only have them to make apple pie, I have no reason to be entitled to anything at all, let alone apple pie.

Same here, they are not bound to anything to have such a tool and not having such a tool is not cause they refuse to have it. So far they have made different choices. These choices depend on a lot of factors, but most importantly, it is based on good old economics. That what is most profitable will go first.
So they either think that adding such a tool is not profitable, or it is really expensive to do both (or more likely, a bit of both).

If you would make yet another post (cause there are allready a lot) bout suggesting such a feature needs to be in game…I agree. with a small sidenote.
In GW2 I allready see more people with too lil knowledge bout their build compared to GW1. I think this has to do with the lack of build diversity.
I think having such a feature to load in ready made builds from the internet would only promote this. So I’m against that function. I have no point in having a way to store your own builds (preferable serverside, so you really have them accountbound and dont need to back them up). In essence it requires you to put in a build manually once and then save it.

I was one of the probably many people that spent $90ish dollars on the best version of guild wars 2 when it came out. I am having a hard time figuring out how it is worth spending another $50-$90 on for this new expansion just simply to get a free character slot. At the lowest option that means I am spend a total of $140 to avoid a chat restriction, economy restriction and for a character slot.

I think there should be a option to simply just upgrade my account to this new expansion. I would spend $20 to upgrade my account to the new expansion and not care if I get a character slot or not. By going free to play (even though free to play is partially limited) pretty much meant I spent $90 to get around a few limitations and for a few exclusive things which again seems like a rip off for any support of the game before the free to play came out.

I just don’t see how 1 character slot equals out to paying even more money for a game that I spent $90 in the first place that is now worthless and need to spend another $50-$90 to be on par with new players. I shouldn’t have to spend $140-$180 (depending on edition type) to have what someone could of spent $50-$90 on.

I know people will just be like O well what about games like World of Warcraft charging $60 for new expansions? The thing about spending $60 on a new expansion is that it doesn’t give you the entire game up to that point with the expansion. It only gives you that single expansion so your previous purchase isn’t made worthless like this is where you get the expansion and the original game.

I just feel like the way this expansion is priced and not giving a option to pay a lesser fee to previous supporters of the game to just upgrade without also paying for a second core game kind of throws us under the bus. To me a extra character slot is not worth the extra $25ish dollars compared to if I could just pay $25 to upgrade off my current core game.

The expansion would have to be much much smaller for them to only charge $20 for it. Their budget for the game would have been based on how much they could charge and how many they would sell. For $20 where the biggest bulk of their sales would be from people who bought the core would mean they would have to spend a whole lot less on development, and make it even smaller.

Nope.

Rift latest expansion was $24 at launch and is actually much much bigger then HoT. You can actually get it for free now if you’re unemployed, retired or just patient via in-game grind (gemstones equivalent mechanics). Also includes MULTIPLE new dungeons, new raids on top of the standard outdoor content. In fact, I would go as far as say HoT is about half the size without any new dungeons and only 1 raid but at 2-3 times the price. Pathetic.

Now, A-Nets budget might be dwindling dramatically, take for example 3 years of WvW neglect and the dwindling numbers of players there and the dead servers. I mean, LOL, do they expect people to pay them for that ?

1: you can’t compare the size of HoT with an expansion in Rift. HoT isn#t released yet and we do not know the size.
2: Rift is a game with a monthly fee (with a play for free mode that is to lure you in).
3: besides HoT itself you are also paying for all the free content that will be released over the next few years untill the next expansion comes out. Something that isnt included at Rift.

Point is, no matter how much people are whining, GW2 is the game where you get the most game for what you buy. No monthly fee, a huge amount of regular content updates, and all you have to do is buy an expansion once every few years, to keep recieving the future releases. No other game is giving more content for the price paid!

It has been discussed a few times before. You can’t turn on SAB and cross your fingers. It is a game within the game, but in essence it uses the same engine and same systems. Many things that don’t work in SAB (traits, regular weapons etc) don’t do it cause they are turned off. Since the last SAB there has been many systems overhauled and changed. This also goes beyond the above. Think bout the effect the new camera angle and first person mode will have.
So before they can turn it on again, they will have to do serious testing. This will cost manpower, and that is exactly what they need for HoT.

so in short. no SAB before HoT.

So far both BWE’s started on the first friday of the month. So following that logic, the third BWE would be on oktober 2. This would also make sense cause of how much time there is left till release.

There are still two full weeks to go till then.

when landed for a few seconds smoke comes off.

Black Screen of Death

mercury ranique.2170

Turns out that playing the game in windowed/borderless fixes this problem, for me anyway.

I thought nvidia fixed this allready. but hearing how long you had this issue, you might want to try and disable the nvidia streaming service. I would advice to get a newer nvidia driver, but some newer ones has other windows 10 issues.

There are several ways to disable the streaming service, but easiest is:
1: use the search icon (next to start) to search for “CMD”.
2: right click “command prompt” and run as administrator. Give authorisation
3: type in "sc stop “NvStreamSvc” and hit enter. This stops the service.
4: type in "sc config “NvStreamSvc” start= disabled " to disable this service to start
5: type exit and return the game to non-windowed mode. it should be fixed now.
(if not and if you want to enable the sergvice again, repeat step 1 and 2 and type in "sc config “NvStreamSvc” start= enabled " and then “sc start NvStreamSvc” )

This streaming service is used to stream games to a specific type of tablet made by nvidia (nvidia shield tablet)

When quitting gw2 BSOD in windows 10

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I’m afraid it is not this black and white.

A BSOD is caused cause an application, service or driver is giving instructions to the kernel that can’t be performed. Cause those instructions, in the case of games, are often given by the GPU-driver, often that is the cause. But the game also gives direct instructions.

Nope .. Applications can not give instructions directly to the kernel mode
and can’t cause a BSOD. All they can do are giving instructions do the driver
and the driver causes the BSOD because the instruction is badly implemented.

See also
http://www.howtogeek.com/163452/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-blue-screen-of-death/

Blue screens are generally caused by problems with your computer’s hardware or issues with its hardware driver software. Standard software shouldn’t be able to cause blue screens — if an application crashes, it will do so without taking the operating system out with it. Blue screens are caused by hardware problems and issues with low-level software running in the Windows kernel.

Driver: a bit of software used to prepare input or output for an periphereal device
As many programs do not use periphereal devices at all, they will not use a driver at all.

The given link is explicitly saying “shouldn’t” that doesn’t mean they can’t.
Just that nowadays it is 9/10 times a driver issue doesn’t mean you should be blind for other options (or atleast understand what is going on and what causes a bsod).

On your own link (which is a crappy article to start with), they are contradicting.
For example things they advice to fix a BSOD:
"
Scan for Malware: Malware that digs deep into Windows and gets its hooks into the Windows kernel at a low level can cause system instability. Scan your computer for malware to ensure buggy malicious software isn’t causing it to crash.

Reinstall Windows: Reinstalling Windows is the nuclear option. It will blow away your existing system software, replacing it with a fresh Windows system. If your computer continues to blue screen after this, you likely have a hardware problem.
"

Both these solutions have nothing to do with hardware or drivers. The last option (reinstall windows) have zero use if you then reinstall the faulty drivers (if it is a driver). Still it is listed cause they can happen.

Are Elite Specializations a Weapon Toggle?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Nope. Specialisations are allready in game. They had a different name (I think Traitline or something simular), but are now called specialisations. They are a set of 6 traits. 3 of them are set in stone, and the other three you can choose between 3 different types. You currently can choose 3 specialisation out of 5 possible core specialisations

HoT will introduce Elite specialisations. Those are a special type of specialisation. If you choose an elite specialisation as one of the three you have equipped, you gain access to a new weapon type, a new healing skill, 4 new utility skills and a new elite skill. It also changes your class mechanic (for example, a guardian gets 3 different virtues).
The new weapon type can be equipped if you want. If your class is capable of weaponswapping, you can do that too.

for example compare this page ( https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragonhunter ) with this page (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Druid )

so unless I missed something big, the beta didnt give access to the druid and all you tested was normal rangers skills allready in the core game.

report this to nvidia. BSOD should not be Anet’s problem.

The driver should protect you from these issues. If it isnt, there is a bug in the driver.

tl:dr; not anet’s problem

I’m afraid it is not this black and white.

A BSOD is caused cause an application, service or driver is giving instructions to the kernel that can’t be performed. Cause those instructions, in the case of games, are often given by the GPU-driver, often that is the cause. But the game also gives direct instructions. Besides that, if the input in the driver is faulty, so will also be the output.

having said that…you are most likely right that it is a GPU-dirver. specially cause it is windows 10 and the OP is using nvidia.

OP. I recommend starting to troubleshoot this by updating/downgrading your nvidia driver. It is known to be a pain with windows 10. If you have the latest version, downgrade to an older version (e.g. a windows 8.1 driver). They do work and are stable on windows 10.

HoT Game Day item check-list

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

On game day, I’m planning to have the following items ready for what will be my new Revenant, the goal being to max the masteries, and enjoy the new content – am I missing anything?
-Full lvl 80 heavy set of armor w/sigs
-Full lvl 80 set of weapons, 2 swords, hammer, mace axe, shield, hammer, staff, and spear w/upgrades
-Full lvl 80 set of trinkets (rings, amulets, accessories, back piece)
for me, a mix of exotic and ascended on the above items depending on time/budget
-a +30 scroll and 50 tomes for insta-80
-Ample food w/15% +exp, ie; spicy pumpkin cookie, omnomberry ghost – you may want to have some RL food ready as well :-)
-Ample nourishment (any anti-Mordremoth potions like the scarlet one?) for the +10 exp
-Four 20-slot bags, probably one of them invisible for my play-style
-My unlimited gather-tools and salvage-o-matic
-Will add boosters to taste (birthday, +experience, etc…)

I would advice against going instant -80.
It will lead to poor understanding of the class. Specially cause there will be no good builds available online yet. So I’m personally going into HoT with a different character and will take (some) time with my revenant. My plan is to get atleast 1 waypoint in each map, do all of the personal story (might skip Zhaitan) and get a good amount of hero-points. Byy doing so I expect to gain enough experience for bout 15 levels, and so saving me 15 tomes. I got the full 50 ready if needed, but just not planning on using them.

Look at for example spark, how the price behaved since HoT announcement (includign the precursor announcement). Initially there was a drop. The market never fully recovered from this, but has been slowly going up since.
Most important is that this trend was not broken by the release date announcement. If there would be any significant trend visable, it would show there atleast a lil.

You paid $50 to play for the last 2-3 years. The cost of HoT is the same for everyone.

You are absolutely right and we, who bought the game when it released, have to thank Anet for all their work.

However some form of appreciation to those of us who bought both would be quite welcome.

HoT - Pros

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

A few remarks to what you are saying.

1: I personally didn’t have issues with too many sparks.

2: The hylek are not copy paste. They are different type of breeds created just for HoT. I’m not sure if you played BW1 in the othe rpart, but there the hylek are non-hostile. So it really is concentrated at this part of the map as the place of the “evil” hylek. Keep those things in mind when judging it as a whole. You are only seeing a small portion

3: Many things where there to block content. So anything that you see when you fall down is just a placeholder hiding the real (unknown) content.

4: gliding is the best way to see the map. It makes it a lot bigger and ease up transportation a lot. I didn’t had to look up how to work it nor had any help. for future reference.
a: press “H”
b: go to the bottom icon for masteries
c: select the line for “gliding” and then the top bar.
d: the bar now starts filling up while you gather xp. once full you also get a pop-up message that it is ready.
e: go back there when it is ready and select the icon behind the line. It asks you if you want to spent a mastery point, confirm and you can glide (and choose another mastery to level, either within gliding to master updrafts, or another line).
I’m not sure if the masteries are available from level 1 or for level 80 only. In any case, it can have a tutorial (either within the level up bonuses, or with an ingame mail). Shouldnt take long to implement though.

5: I really don’t know how the other maps look. We know it got the same biotopes, but if they have the same look and feel?? In the core game, most maps have differing and unique landscapes (within a regional theme). Only Orr is a bit of the same. in all three. I guess this is impossible to judge. I do believe that the crashed airships is just something for verdant brinks. I am pretty hopefull therefore the other maps have different themes to it.

6: it is allready said above, but in more direct tones. Do not judge the expansion on just this beta. It is a small part of the expansion and the main purpose is to test certain elements without giving away too much of the content. so the percentages you are posting are based on the limited beta and not on the entire thing. We jsut don’t know that.

My conclusion is that we can not know or judge if it is ready. They have kept the same release filosophy as with the core game. Meaning they did not give a release date ages before release (and like other games often had to postpone it) but told us a long time “when it is ready” and posted a release date short before the release itself. It means to me that they feel ready. Off course they are still polishing, but they are not working on many factors now and it is near completion (to their own standards).
Wether or not they are correct with that decision is not something we can judge on a very limited beta.

Tome of Knowledge - Confirmation on Use

mercury ranique.2170

I see your point, but in my experience I’m having a lot of trouble playing with the war that lvled up from lvl 25 to lvl 80 with tomes from login rewards and I have (obviously) all skills and specs unlocked.

Go out and clear a zone or two, or go to the mist lobby and test on golems. It doesn’t take long to get the hang of a class, especially warrior.

What about behaviour in dungeons or fractals? You need more training than 3 hours clearing some zones…

You would have to learn the dungeon and fractal mechanics anyways so I fail to see how that statement is relevant to learning the general class.

What works for you, doesn’t work for someone else. For me, it is far not enough for several reasons.
1: I make my own builds. Off course I look at premade builds for isnpiration, but I want to make my own and test things out to perfection.
2: I don’t want to take anything people say to be automatically right. So I’ll learn by falling and standing up, and not just cause someone tells me how to do it.
3: I like to be helpfull to people. That is why I want a “normal” experience with all classes and have gone through levelling them up. I do use tomes to skip ahead. but never to the fullest.

I personally like my method a lot and I think it gives me better understanding bout classes then people who take another method. That doesn’t mean my method is better (nor the opposite). But it is the way I prefer to play it and approach it.

Trahearne is a Necromancer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

maybe follow the dialogue a bit next time

Depending on your race you meet him for the first time in the grove (sylvari) or at claw island (other races). he starts out fighting with normal weapons untill he is given caladbolgh during the storymission “A light in the darkness”. Caladbolgh looks like a greatsword, but is actually a bundle made from the bark of the pale tree. It has unique skills. the players can use caladbolgh and its skills when doing the sylvari personal story. The level 30 arc is made around retrieving the Caladbolgh from a human who stole it and using it to destroy a lich.

So yes he is a necromancer and no he yielding Caladbolgh has nothing to do with the reaper.

(ow and if you played that sylvari story, you would understand Trahearne a lot better. If my mum is making me fight with such a crappy sword, I would moarn “this wont end well” all the time as well)

suddenly low fps - cpu at 100%, gpu at 10%

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

GW2 is very CPU demanding ye. The reason is that many low end systems have a decent cpu, but not a decent gpu. So this way they can attrack customers new to the genre without them needing to buy a better computer to play. It is not possible to balance that on your own (and Arenanet isn’t planning on it either, cause it is as designed)

The worrying part is that you are saying that the CPU is over 100 degrees. I hope you are talking bout Fahrenheit. If it is Celsius, there must be something wrong with it. Is it really that hot?? if so the CPU should shut down. It is possible to prevent that by turning the option off (but that should only be done if your CPU has faulty sensors). It can also be that the shut down options isn’t triggering cause it isn’t that hot and you are using a different but faulty meter. Anyways.. that is bout the sensors and triggers, not bout the problem.

Most of the time these issues come from overclocking. Cause it is likely that GW2 is the most CPU-sensitive process you can run it is an excellent way to tell you overclocked too far and should turn it back down a bit.

Can this chromebook run GW2?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

First of all it is not supported. Only gw2 on windows is fully supported and gw2 on a mac is best effort supported.

I have no clue if anyone has tried it (cause if it runs it will be very extreme poor low quality), but theoretically, chrome can use wine to run windows applications. Chrome is based on a linux kernel and people have been able to get wine running in developper mode on a chromebook. But even then, the specs are below the minimum required specs. If running those specs on a windows machine it is doubtfull wether it runs GW2 properly. Besides that wine is an emulator and that means a loss of hardware capacity as well.

So all in all I give it a 5% change to run GW2 to some extend. If you own a chromebook, feel free to try it on your own, but never buy it with the purpose of playing GW2

http://www.zoomtel.com/documentation/adsl/5792-UserManual-EngB.pdf This is the manual for your router. What is drawing my attention is that they have a full chapter (5) for connecting gaming devices. two options are to place the gaming device in a DMZ or on a virtual net. Maybe your brother doesnt have the issues cause he did so?

But what also could be the issue is that it is a mallfunction in the firmware of the lan-adapter.
It could be an issue with the auto negotiation bout the duplex mode. This can be done by going to device manager, look for the land-driver, right click and choose property’s. You now have to look for the speed and duplex option. This differ per driver. But in my case it is in the tab advance. select speed&duplex in the property list and adjust the value. I recommend 1 Gbps full duplex.

If that doesnt work remember to put this setting back on auto negotiate, but also try getting your hands on an alternative lan-adapter. You can get one pretty cheap (usb or PCIe/PCI).

Ingame question about group finding

Its a bug? Thanks for that… I also suspected, that someone may reported me and I got long penalty.

The reason I suspected that, I got an ascended item as a drop and I was so WOOOW about it, that I linked my drop in the map and many said " gratz, good, hurray"… but also many said " get out from the map, you took what you wanted…" etc.. so I suspected that it may had to do with it. All started after that.

yeah its definitly an “bug”

cause sometimes i cant join lfg after two unsuccessful teq taxies and have to restart my game exe ( or it remains for up to 1hrs this status) other times i can try 8 teq/sw taxies and after that cant join for about 2 min and than it works again

- -> it have to be an bug

I think it is not possible to identify this as a bug and it is up to the devs to do so.
The lock is part of the anti spam meassures. We don’t know how they work and what sets it off. I have good reasons (personal observation) they are tied together. So being muted in map cause you spammed too much also influences the timeout between mails you can sent, or how fast you can use the LFG.
Also, any observations are not constant. I believe that arenanet is actively changing the systems, depending on what is going on (if there is much activity of goldsellers, measures are increased and if the activity drops down, it is decreased again).

Never the less, it is annoying. If it can be fixed in such way that we don’t have to suffer from it and the goldspammers can’t misuse it, I’m happy.

No it’s not my opinion, it is clearly stated in the forum code of conduct that bad language is not allowed.

But in this case, given the context, I’m 99.99% sure the OP wrote something that is a violation of the forum code of conduct and the filter worked properly (this time). I’m pretty sure…And so are the million other players doing the same thing.

When making an argument and stating these kind of things, you are only holding your own argument down. Who gives you the authority to speak for others and why can’t they speak for themselfes?. It might seem your argument is stronger, but in reality it just makes it lesser.

I for one dissagree with you.
Besides consuming the tome, you also need to accept (and in some cases select) the level up rewards. The tome is a lot better then the situation where you have to level up by doing content.
I got 50 tomes (and a level 30 scroll) ready. I am planning on using many of them on my revenant. But not all. the class is new to me and I prefer to do atleast the personal stories and get the major waypoints around the world. So I will use the level 30 scroll, do the first 3 chapters of personal story, use tomes to reach level 40, do another chapter and start doing half of the major waypoints. And repeat for every 10 levels.

I would hate overusing tomes by accident and don’t think I should just for people who are going to be instant lvl 80 with no clue what to do. It is totally up to you, but it is not a must thing to do, and you shouldnt need to be cathered on that kind of level. This is beyond normal QoL and in the domain of lazyness.
