From a traditional perspective…
The guardian is just a wammo
The engineer is just a necromancer with different themed minions.
So is the mesmer
Mesmer is also just a weak type of thief
Rangers are a weaker type of engineer
…And most of all….
ALL CLASSES ARE PURE DPS-ZERKER META!!
(sorry for the caps).
My point is that the above is true and still totally crap. Any class will have elements from other classes in it. Arenanet has always said that they are happy with the amount of classes. There was a big demand for a third heavy armor, and that is what we are getting. I personally find the revenant a refreshing new option. It is actually much more unique compared to what I expected from a new class.
Maybe try to explain what you think is an original class.

Please allow Elite Spec at level 21
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
elite specialisation is part of the end game character progression.
With this I mean that it is ment to be something you do after you experienced the core game.
There is absolutly no need to experience specialisation before that.
Why not start levelling up a necro and a thief now? you got plenty of time before HoT release to get atleast one to level 80.

I agree that there need to be more updrafts. Gliding should provide a means to transport the map while ignoring the paths. Now it is just one direction (down) and almost never up. So there need to be more updrafts.

The question is wether or not you are entitled to a game without beta content. To make it short…you are not.
"
You acknowledge that ArenaNet may in its reasonable discretion provide subsequent versions, enhancements, modifications, upgrades or patches related to any part of the Service.
You acknowledge that Service may be interrupted for reasons within or beyond the control of ArenaNet, that ArenaNet cannot and does not guarantee You will be able to use the Game or any Account whenever You wish to do so, that ArenaNet will interrupt the Service on a regular basis for purposes of maintenance or updates and may do so without providing You with notice before such interruption, and that ArenaNet may provide subsequent versions, enhancements, modifications, upgrades or patches related to the Game that You must accept and/or install before You will be able to use the Game.

This means that Arenanet may interupt service whenever they want and modify it in any way they want. You agreed to those conditions, so you are not entitled to have a beta-free experience.

Hardest jumping puzzle?? It depends a lot on what you find hard yourself and the circumstances. I’m pretty good in them as long as I can take my time. As soon as it is timed things then I’m lost.
But doing obsidian sanctum facing 100 world invaders all on your own seems to be the most daunting one

Q: When do the quests become more interesting?
Re: GW2 doesn’t have quests. So not sure what you mean (although I have an idea, see below).
Q: And when does the combat become more fun and engaging?
Re: it doesn’t, but again, you might have been playing the starterszone in a wrong way).
Q: if I don’t like playing in the starter zones, is this simply not the game for me?
re: If you play the starterzones properly, it likely isn’t the game for you.
BUT
How are you playing the starterzones. Between the lines I read you concentrate on the things shown on the map like renown hearts. Renown hearts are indeed boring and put in the game not as a replacement of quests or as the dotted line to follow.
GW2 is all bout exploration and events. By just looking at your map you will miss out on a lot.
So follow your activity compass to find events, but also explore off the guide paths.
If you see a graveyard, go into it. If you see a lady in front of a tombstone with an event symbol above her head, see what she has to say and follow her. Just to spoil this one, she will ask you to guide her home, but at the exit of the graveyard she turns into a evil ghost that tries to kill you.
Same with caves. Some are empty. some have a chest with some loot. Some have a trollstone in it. Pick up the trollstone…….and meet the troll
That is imo the true beauty of GW2 it is never the same game, but the interesting activity’s are always the events.
Now to why there are renown hearts…to make it a vibrant and changing world. the action doesn’t always take place where you are. That is why there are renown hearts. You can do them when you find yourself between some events. but they are just fillers, not the red dotted line.

I have used a razor naga for a good amount of time. somehow I never got round to use the thumb keys in my rotations. I do use my mouse a lot for turning my character (I hardly ever use A+D for direction, but steer fully with my mouse). So I’ve recently got my hands on a R.A.T.3 mouse (a FPS mouse). I really love it. I use the two tumbbuttons for dodging and interact. But more important, cause I can switch the dpi with a push on a button I can easily make it more sensitive (for precies jumping puzzles) or more speed (for combat). If you have no use for the thumbbuttons like me, a really good gaming mouse

Predicting the gold-gem conversion rate and the gem-gold conversion rate is very tricky. So there is no solid answer, but to watch the market carefully.
There are several factors in play.
1: all gems being bought with gold come from players who bought it with money (actually this is not fully true, it is a tidbit more complicated, but more or less it is correct and for this discussion it can be used as a solid factor.
From this you can assume that normal supply is pretty stable, but with HoT on presale, there are two factions that come to play.
a: people reserve a certain budget that want to spend on a game. So cause they bought HoT, they might buy lesser gems.
b: with the ultimate edition you get 4000 gems for the price of 25 euro. This is a 50% discount, or in other words 2000 gems for free. Besides an interesting discount, people tend to go for that offer also cause it is the most expensive bundle. Just like people might go for the most expensive model of a car.
As you can see those two both influence the amount of supply in opposite directions
Demand is much more dynamic. it shifts a lot depending on what is offered in the gemstore and what discounts there are. Also people who start again playing (e.g. when HoT launches) might be be buying skins with a HoT theme or they missed. further, I expect that HoT will introduce some new skins in the store (e.g. gliderskins).
This makes a normally allready unpredictable market even more unpredictable. So anything can happen.

Beta is held on live client. If you own the expansion just hit “Create BETA Character”
This
Also, if you downloaded anything calling itself a separate client for the hoT beta I suggest you contact support a.s.a.p. cause that is likely a phising client used to steal your login details. You should uninstall the program (but keep the installer for now, support might want to have it to investigate it in a secure environment) and change your passwords.

I wouldn’t mind seeing it as a minor storyline or even a biggerone , but there is an important danger, and it lies in your very own reason why you would want to see it. Any storyline involving her should exist because it fits the bigger picture and the character needed for that storyline. Otherwise she would be put in just because she is transgen.
You so often see storytellers incorporate minorities into their story cause it is political correct. But minorities should always be there cause they support the story, not cause they are a minority.

The main issue is different for mac and for linux.
I’ll start with Linux.
Linux is seen as an OS, but essentially it is only a kernel.
You got several linux distributions using a kernel, a GUI, a file system and many other components. Although these distributions share a kernel and often other elements, they are different. That means that it is impossible to support a dedicated client for linux with garanteed support. The best they could do is an unsupported client.
As the potential playerbase on linux is small it is not likely.
For mac the issue is different. Macs are limited in hardware (not the quality, but the amount of choice you have). That is the main reason why the average gamer dislike the mac. They want to have more freedom on what hardware to use. So while the apple userbase has grown over the last years, among gamers it did not. within apple-users that is blamed on the lack of games. It is a bit of an egg or chicken discussion, but I strongly feel that the lack of choice in hardware is a main reason for it (I know it is for me the reason I have no interest in having an apple).
So both are not economical interesting to invest.
Specially now with F2P. They would make it just for free players (as there is no difference between an F2P client and paying customers client).

Just a warning that of the given options, winauth is the least secure option as it is not using 2 way authentification. If your computers security is breached, so is winauth. getting a code from an external device is always more secure.
Another point to consider is in seeing that ANET reserves the right to change the EULA at any time, you simply don’t know where your information may go in the future. Hence a cautious approach when giving out personally identifiable information is wise
The promise to not share personal information is not in the end user license agreement but in the privacy policy. Within privacy laws it is set in stone, if they change the privacy policy, it will only apply to the personal information gathered after they changed it. for the personal information gathered before they changed it, the old privacy policy still applies.

Beta weekend players, HoT worth it or not?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
A beta is a bad promo. So as you can see here, people draw very different conclusions from it.
As you say, you liked the core game a lot and find it worth well the money spend. So that should for me be more then enough to purchase the expansion too. specially cause the core game will stop receiving improvements like living world and skills. It is now for free. for living world season 3 you’ll need HoT, for the new skills you need HoT, for the new PvP and WvW maps you’ll need HoT. So although there might be some feature updates, the core game will not be further enhanced where HoT will.
That alone is worth it for me.
Verdant Brinks is a fun map and the new mechanics are fun too. I can’t wait to see the rest of the map and the other maps.
As for the comments here. The beta is small and limited. We are all individuals and differ in how we approach things. I saw this also pre-launch. so many people where negative bout almost everything, but when it actually launched, they where very happy. It is like the glass is half full or half empty. Some people are afraid bout what happens when the glass is empty and full focus on that, while others will focus on what is still left in there.
Some will bring down their expectations (negativism) so they are not dissapointed when the expansion launches. Others will have high expectations, but are also happy if it is not fully that. We are all individuals.

Hard hitting mobs Am I doing this wrong?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
I think there are two factors in play here.
1: HoT needs to be more challenging then anything currently in game. Otherwise it would be a bad expansion. It also needs the new class, the specialisations and the new weapons (and the skills that come with it). With the beta, they want us to experience both elements. But the tricky part is that we play new builds and use new skills totally new to us, while facing the hardest type of mobs we have seen so far. That is not a good mix.
To fix this I really recommend to use a build you are used to (so nothing of the new stuff) when facing and judging the difficulty of the mobs.
My feedback to Arenanet is to release the new class and specialisations separate of HoT (earlier if possible). If we have a 2-3 week headstart with it, it means we can get used to the new builds and skills and learn how to incorporate it into our existing builds and rotations. It also gives you more room for balancing. It seems to work alright during betaweekends.
The second part of the story is that you seem to be right that zerker is more punished. I think that is perfectly ok. Zerker should always have to been a combo that gives you a high risk of dying and is not forgiving at all. the amount of power it gives is too easy to handle at the moment. Basically, with zerker, any hit you couldnt dodge should be potentially lethal.

There are some contradicting sources when it comes to the species behind the “gold” structures.
They exist in the mystery cave at the end of season 2. This cave is guarded by runes of the “forgotten”. Also the devine fire is a technology that belongs to them and it is what the mordrems fear. Further, the forgotten were allied with Glint (who still has a strong tie with the HoT-story).
The mursaat however seems to be in two of the teaser trailers and had a lost city of gold.
So maybe both have something to do with HoT??? hmmmmmmmm

“Do not engage in staff call-outs. Using the words “ArenaNet” or any staff member’s name will not expedite the answer to your query.”
Form the forum rules.
This is a public forum. although you may get a reaction from a dev, it is not the purpose of this forum. If you post here, you give other the right to react to it.
And yes I do feel the need to comment.
One of the most hated things (reading through this forum) is the decission of Arenanet to concentrate on outfits instead of armorsets. The reason for this decission is likely that armorsets have clipping issues and people keep on nagging bout them (how they pay a good amount of gems only to see it clip with their hair).
So your request is actually contributing to that situation. Your request is not realistic at all cause there are thousands of combinations they have to check and repair.
It only results in even less armor skins and more boring outfits.
So to counter your request with one of my own:
Devs, please do not listen to the OP. I don’t want more outfits, but I want more armor skins, that there are some clipping issues with armorskins, doesnt bother me at all, any armorskin is 100 times better then more boring outfits!

I’ll be honest. I don’t see traditional mounts (horses) fiting in Tyria. It just doesn’t suit the style of the game and the artistic way of drawing.
I think it would be interesting to see other type of mounts (charr motorcycle ftw!).
But as others said, it has to be cosmetic only and no speedboost.
The main point is that the current mounts didn’t sell too well and aren’t used a lot. So that is an indication that it might not be worth the development time.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

Taste is something very subjective. Looking through the entries, I do see some that are better in my personal opinion. But I also see a potential issue with them when they would been added to the game. It is the amount of complexity and details.
A guild emblem has to be usable on many different scales. That means that complex emblems might look great on flickr, but will likely look terrible and even unrecognisable when scaled in the game.
This might have been a factor when selecting the emblems. They did say in the introduction: “Make sure your emblem looks good small. Avoid excessive details.”
Many of the submissions didn’t follow that guideline. It makes them look better popped out, but not when they are small.

Hi guys. Dumb topic, but after looking for a few hours I still can’t find any info on it. I just recently pre-purchased heart of thorns. Where can I go about downloading the beta client?
There is no beta client. The entire beta is allready in the game and has been there since some time (they have been putting hidden updates in the regular updates, obviously it is not finished yet and they have been doing more updates all the time).
Once you have purchased heart of thorns and succesfully added it to your game account, you will get 4 new characters slots in your character select screen with a green “beta” label init. Just create such a character. You start at level 80 in the silverwastes with a special event going on that will bring you to a story instance and from there further into the beta map.

I personally think the linear part is needed for the vertical elements. I imagine the bottom biosphere will be better on this point (as there is no need for gaps to go further down).
I do think the limitation it offers is solved easily by adding more updrafts. This allows kites to not only go from one path to another lower path, but also the other way around. So within the limit of the distance you can fly you can cross most chasms in two directions, eliminating the block they offer.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
In most countries it is illegal to tax people without really giving that money to the government.
For example. in my country, in all purchases they have to say how much tax is involved (and yes it goes to the government). This is important cause if you are a company, you can get this tax back from the governement. But you obvious need proof. That is why they have to say it and why it really has to be correct. (and yes, there are situations where a company would buy GW2 for their business, e.g. there are game review magazines and websites in the netherlands).
These rules change per country and in the US also per state.
So while e.g. Amazon hides the tax when they don’t have to (depending on where you live), arenanet knows there is a lot of talk in the game chat and on here bout the price and want to make sure people know what they pay for the game and what they pay for tax. This makes it a lot easier to see why some people pay more or less for the purchase.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

So basically, you want more stuff for free or cheaper??
It actually does add up to a very normal business model. When something is new it is more expensive.
I can get a nintendo 64 with 100 games for free right new. Why, cause my friend has it unused in a box in his basement. Why is it unused, cause he now is playing a playstation (shame on him missing out on GW2).
You had the privelege to play GW2 core game when it was new. You still have the same privelege as the new free to play players or the people who get the core game for free with the xpac. you can continue to play the core game for the same amount they are paying for it from now on till eternity.
If you want to play HoT you have to buy it, just like them. It all makes perfect sense and we are all treated equally. If you want something when it is new you have to pay. Feel free to wait three years till the second expasion drops. you (likely) will get HoT then for free.
the moment you drive 1 mile in a brand new car it drops 50% in price, just cause it is no longer new. That is no different then what is going on here!
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
With the new part of the map, I think (even more) that we need more updrafts.
I understand why there has to be gaps between paths. It gives places to kite down or over, and gives kites a purpose. But at the moment, kites can only go down and never up. It is like a waterslide in a waterpark. You have 5 seconds of fun and then have to spend 5 minutes of getting back up and inline.
With updrafts this can be solved. It means we can go back the way we came. It would mean that the glider offers what it really is, freedom to go wherever we want to go. wether it is up or down.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I know we still have the problem with missing gods but since the devs have never commented on that thopic and since legendary armor is announced now i just thought i could ask again:
Will we ever get UW and FoW back? I mean, FoW at least was the place where we had to forge legendary armor in GW1…
So… maybe? Pls?
UW and FoW have never been gone. All you need to do is boot up GW1.
GW2 is a very different game. I loved GW1, but for me it is in the past. I don’t want to see things like UW and FoW in GW1, I want new things. Just as good or better, but new.
I really don’t understand why people want to go to place like this or Cantha, or Elona. I loved them all in GW1, just like you, but that doesn’t mean that arenanet isn’t capable of designing other stunning places too. And cause you have nothing to compare them too, it will even be more stunning as it has the surprise element.
“experiences from the past are no garantee for the future”
Just cause you liked e.g. FoW in GW1, doesnt mean you will like it in GW2. So when hearing bout them adding FoW to GW2 all it can do is meet up with expectations -meh- or dissapoint. With new stuff, we have no reference and it is more likely to meet our expectations and go beyond.

Do you have to buy deluxe to get it, or will it turn up in the gem store?
At the moment the only sure way is to buy deluxe.
In the past some elements of gameeditions have also been available in the gemstore.
But there where two important elements.
1: it was more expensive
2: it only happened that existing gemstore items where added to new packages (like the profane, primeval or krytan armor skins), never the other way around (like the first rytlock miniature).
So if that specific skin is ever going to be added to the gemstore, it will likely be more expensive.
BUT!
As we are getting a wardrobe category for gliders, it is very likely there will be much more other glider skins that will be available. If that will be through the gemstore ? I actually expect them to do that!
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
They where never available as armorskins, only as townclothes. Townclothes have been replaced by outfits, which cover the entire body (head-item can be hidden).
If using medium armor, you could get the http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Eagle-Eye_Goggles
to unlock it in your wardrobe, create an engineer in a free character slot (not beta!) and choose the goggles. Once unlocked you can delete the character again to use the slot for other purposes.

The reason there are not mounts or no duelling has nothing to do with entitlement. They are not in game cause arenanet seems to agree with the majority of the players that it is a bad idea. thinking you are entitled to have a gw2 with duelling is just the same as thinking you are entitled to have a gw2 without duelling.
So instead of flaming on people who think different, why not ask and listen to their opinions. They don’t say no to bug you, but because they have issues with it.
You did not ask me but I’m happy to share them with you.
Duelling:
I’ve seen duelling in other games. It made me quit them. The fact that you can harashed by a lil kid. Someone who had e.g. an argument in mapchat, lost it big time and then thinks he is still better then me cause I refuse to duell him. I have no issue with duelling at all. But in those other games, people have shown over and over again, that some players can’t handle it responsable and kind. That is why I would not like open world duelling in GW2. I have no issue with duelling in destinct places (e.g. in the guildhall). That has much less issues.
Mounts:
There actually are mounts in GW2. The magic carpet, the broomstick and the tunneling machine. They don’t sell a lot and people don’t use them that much.
The difference is that they don’t offer additional speed. So the real demand seems not for mounts but for additional speed (while on a vanity item).
Unlike other games, in GW2 exploration matters a lot for xp and levelling. Enemy’s don’t kite far and will miss moving targets very easy. This means that additional speed would be a powerfull tool to level quickly while unlocking most of the world.
So all in all, I don’t think that mounts are a good tool for GW2. Too many issues for something that is mostly a vanity item. You allready can get from a to b quickly with wayshrines and asura portals. So there is not a real need for that kind of speed either.

Is HoT pay to win?
New skills I keep bumping into feel extremely effective and have made certain classes harder to deal with than normal, you can only attain new skills by spending $72 (Australian) so that would essentially make it pay to win right?
GW2 has always been buy to play.
They copied the model from GW1. There, each campaign (somwhat the same as an expansion) came with unique skills. having all three campaigns and the expansion would give you a huge advantage over just having 1 campaign.
I would not call it pay to win though. This term is generally used for those games where the more you pay, the more change on winning you have.
In GW2 everyone has equal chance IF you buy all the expansions. Considering how other games handle their bussines model it is a very fair model. It is still a bussiness and not a charity (although it may look like charity)

So no, the achievements earned will not carry over!
nothing you earn or do on beta-characters will.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
So does it mean, that my ascended drop from PvP isn’t going to be in my wardrobe, even after launch?
If you got it on a beta character, the answer is nope.
The game made a copy of your account. this copy is loaded when you go to your beta characters. After the last beta this copy is deleted. it is not possible to merge these copies. the purpose of beta’s is to test things.

during beta you create a character (you got 4 slots) and independend of the class, they start at level 80 (so also the revenant). But in the real game they will start at level 0 at your racial starting zone.

It more likely has to do with the amount of ftp-accounts in the starter zones.
Scaling of worldbosses is not very good and the events reach max amount of people easily. The amount of people in the map is based on the entire map.
So with F2P, the starterzones are much more busy. so when SB and maw hit, there will be less people there to actually participate.
Further, scaling doesn’t look at player level. So a good amount of players participating will be newbs, also increasing the amount of time the boss take.
As time goes by, the new players get better and more spread out, the time it takes will go back to normal again.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I think they will have new lions arch decorations. Some parts might be recycled (e.g. the halloween mystic forge and the actual skins for pumpkins and latarns), but it has to be put into the new environment. Also the mad kings say event has to be redesigned as that place doesnt exist any more.
As for the rest, it is very unlikely there will be a new story. They had the same story for the last two years. They also had the same story in GW1 every year.
One of the main complaints bout living world season one was that it was all temporary and once in a lifetime. Changing the halloween story every year would bring that back.
I do hope that besides the new lions arch decorations, they will bring new things to it. Like the raffle last year was added (and hopefully makes a return as well).

it rewards an accessory (exotic PTV-stats). It also unlocks the treasure hunter reward track. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Treasure_Hunter
The acessory is not usefull for my type of build and so not really worth it. The treasure hunter title is very hard and expensive. It requires endles sgrinds of certain bosses or a lot of gold to buy the items. For example the pendant of Arah is over 380 gold worth on the TP.

GW2 is a very different game, so tsuch a tool has to be developped just for GW2. It is not something simple as to bring it back.
I have no true objection to this, but do hope it will be done different as in GW1.
Allready I see people have no knowledge bout their builds, which they copied of the internet. This is much worse as in GW1 for some reason (likely cause builds matter less cause there is less build diversity).
With a tool like in GW1, this would only be increased I fear.
So if it is implemented, I hope and wish the data is stored on the server and is accountbound. So you are required to create your build atleast once (or copy it from the internet as is done now anyways). This also helps prevent loss of all your builds if your reinstall.

Anyone else have the sneaking suspicion that some people are opposed to SMS because it will make it harder for them to steal other people’s accounts?
Maybe I’m just a cynic, but when you can’t form a coherent reason for disliking something it always makes me think the worst about the real reason you are opposed to it.
No, I’m opposed to it because giving my phone number to corporations is contrary to security and safe internet use. Which it is allegedly promoting. Just like I won’t give out my phone number to random people on the street. I don’t need people I don’t know calling me when anet sells my phone number. You can make baseless unproveable claims that they don’t sell phone numbers but that is meaningless to me and to anybody who knows better than to trust a corporation with their personal information.
I am also opposed to the alternative using winauth because well winauth is a piece of crap.
From Arenanet’s privacy policy:
"
(3) How the Personal Information Is Used
Personal Information which we collect for a particular purpose will only be saved and used for that purpose, unless you have agreed to allow us to use it for some other purpose, as described in this Privacy Policy.
"
This means that they are not allowed to use your phonenumber for anything else but the two way authentification. the law requires them to have such a privacy policy and they are not allowed to break it.
In the end, it is a matter of trust. they say they will not call you, if you dont trust them on their word, you should not play this game at all. It is no different as a bank. If you don’t trust them to give you back your money, you should not use their services.

Is there any phrase more overused on the Internet than “a slap in the face”? I can’t even take you seriously after that.
yea…. when I see this as a thread title I typically don’t go in unless i’m bored and want some funny things to read. Guess what…. im bored!
Just a lil bit more and beta starts! yaaaaay!!
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Tyria might contain humans, just like the planet earth, but they have very different needs. For example, they can go without food for months and months. Actually, all food does is give a boost to their performance, but they can function perfectly without.
So they might share a name with the humans of planet earth, but in reality they are very different (someone even claimed once they where just a bunch of pixels. I find that reasoning idiotic. I’m not calling those earthlings just a bunch of hydrocarbon atoms either!)

I’ll just add a little clarification just in case, because I have noticed that some people do not know what SMS is.
SMS is the very basic text message that is a basic function in every mobile phone.
True but apparently not all players want to have a mobile phone.
And, of course, you need no mobile phone to use the SMS option, as you can specify voice for landlines.
Not all landline nets are capable of sending/recieving sms over landlines. Also not all phones for landlines are capable of sending/recieving sms.
So if this is made something that is required of all users, they should add a third option.
An easy and reletive cheap system is where you recieve a phonecall and an automated voice reads your code out loud.
I do agree that two way authentification is needed and important, but it has to be in such a way that everyone can use it
You do know that you can use the Authenticator for two way authentification? And you can use WinAuth for that. WinAuth runs on any Windows-Computer. And now don’t tell me someone who’s playing GW2 might not have a Computer…
Using winauth is NOT true two way authentification and has the same issue as an email. It is run on the same computer you play on. So if someone’s security is breeched, it is just as bad as recieving the email. The only advantage is that winauth on itself is much more secure then email.
Two way authentification means you are using two physical devices, so a potential hacker has to hack his way into both.
And all 3 options are kitten.
1- Anet now has my cell phone number.
2- Anet now has my landline number.
3- I’ve now been forced to install shady software because I don’t want to give a company my phone number.
I’ll be honest with you.
I can understand that it is not nice that you are forced to give your phone number. But having the game poluted by goldsellers cause people are using insecure measures are not nice either. So if you don’t use any two-way authentification and you personally don’t care bout your own security and getting hacked, I do believe, the harm done to the community still justifies it.
So assuming (which really is going to be the case) that two way authentication IS going to be required (cause it is needed for the community as a whole). What alternatives that sattisfy you are valid? Keep in mind it has to be two ways (so two devices used).
So the current system of an email is not cutting it.
Also if non of the offered ways are a valid option for you, I think it would be perfectly ok to discuss it with support. I even can imagine that in certain occasions they are willing to bypass the rule (for example after you have proven to use very secure passwords and different passwords on both your email and game, and have shown your other measures like firewalls are up and running)
Or that they give you some kind of compensation (depending on the age of your account and individual purchases) if you have very strong reasons to quit playing over this.
Bottom line is that 2 way authentication is needed for the game and should be the standard. In extreme situations support is always there to give personalised solutions.

Better keep the focus on multiplayer content. It’s not a singleplayer game after all.
I had this discussion a lot in another game (ESO).
They made a mistake there to add endgame content that requires you to form a group. You simply can only reach max level if you do that content or grind for an almost infinite amount of time.
So it is not so simple as saying it isn’t a single player game. It isn’t a multiplayer game either. It is an mmo. You are allowed to play alone and your are allowed to play with others.
I think within those standards the rule should be that nobody should ever feel forced to play in a group, just as nobody every should be forced to play alone.
In some games. you can’t bring other people to personal story isntances. I find that just as stupid as allowing people to play alone, all the way till the final part of the personal story and then forcing them into a party.
So I agree with the OP, there should be rewarding single player content AND rewarding group player content.

Maximizing character slots - New account?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

You can do that and are perfectly allowed to do so.
But you will loose all progress on your existing characters, as well as some other benefits.
For example. if you have been inactive for almost two years, I can imagine you have atleast one character that turned 2 or even 3 years old. that means you recieve two items that gets a new character to level 20 instantly (no matter the starting level, so if you use it on a level 19 character, it is a bit of a waste).
You also get all your money, unlocked skins, etc with it.
Also any other account unlock you ever purchased will be available (inlcuding e.g. additional bankslots).
Considering I bought 5 additional characterslots, 3 banktabs and got several characters over 3 years old, it is a no brainer for me and I upgraded my account. I would suggest to inspect the current state of your existing account and look for the accountbound unlocks you would loose, and take that into account in your decission.

Can beta server run early without staff?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The BWE runs for exact 48 hours. This means two full days. So no matter where you are in the world and what times you sleep work and play. You will get 2 full nights, 2 full mornings, 2 full aternoons and 2 full evenings to play.

It is a finisher themed by the super adventure box. so I don’t think you will see it before the super adventure box will return.
So far the bad news.
I’m not a fan of the super adventure box. I know why the designer (josh foreman) was being put on other (more awesome) projects.
He is the outer category of environments and I’m a huge fan of him (despite not liking SAB). so I totally understand why he is kept off the SAB-project (HoT)
But with HoT release drawing near his work there is done. And I’m sure he hasn’t forgotten bout SAB. I think I know him well enough (yip, im a windbag) he is bursting of idea’s for SAB. As with HoT-release he wont be needed for his other skills for a while and cause SAB has such a popular demand, I’m predicting an SAB before the end of the year (pls don’t pierce me with a mordrem vine if I’m wrong).
If the finisher will return then…Well if it doesn’t, it will prolly be replaced by an even more awesome finisher with the same theme!
