I feel totaly neutral to it. RNG is RNG. If you played that much you have been in the position to buy atleast 5 precursors (unless you blew the money on other things). I’ve played the same amount of time and “only” got a legend drop for me.

The mystic forge is a gambling machine. People often mix statistics with expected results. Let’s say that everytime you put in 4 rare greatswords, you got a 20% chance on it being an exotic and a 0.1% chance of it being a precursor (the last number is something I made up). That means in all you got a 0.02% chance to get a precursor. People then often go on and expect that if they do this 5000 times, that they have to get a precursor. Reality however is that on each individual try you got a 0.02% chance. This doesn’t change if you gamble more often or less. If you want a precursor, save the money and buy it from the TP. If you want to gamble, do so, but don’t cry over loosing all your money.

How I think dungeon skipping can be fixed

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Skipping is intended.

That creature was put there specifically to be avoided. It’s on a long patrol path around the temple, and easy to avoid. In a similar fashion, if you stop to fight a patrolling knight, you’re likely to have another one wander in during the fight, then another, etc. Not every story step is “Destroy every enemy on the map”.

No skipping is not inteded either. That isn’t even part of a dungeon but a story.

Mobs are not designed to be skipped or designed to be killed. They are designed to do whatever you want! If you want to skip them (and as long as they don’t require exploiting to skipp them), then go ahead! If you want to kill them all. go ahead too. Just make sure there is concensious in the party bout it and for the rest you are free to do what you want!

to the OP. The crux here is concent of the party. You are free to make party’s that are not skipping. However, this is an MMO and you can’t force people to play the way you feel right. You need to compromise. Most people prefer to skip and not kill every mob. LFG’s that advertise to not skip take a lot longer to fill. So it is up to you to either take the compromise to wait longer or to compromise and skip.

Maybe one tip. Although “no skippers” are a minority, there are a bunch of you. So why not create a non skipping guild. Maybe such thing actually allready exist? Anyways. that can help to find like minded people more quickly.

Personally I think it’s a matter of time before they go and look at underwater content. They will have to eventually, especially if they stand behind the statement they previously stated about the deep sea dragon. Probably a future expansion, and I hope they incorporate multiple dragons into a story line, otherwise it’ll just be the Pact taking on one dragon, then the next, and so on. Very linear, very boring. The guild wars universe is built upon the rich story, lore, history, I’m sure they could do better than a super linear story. I expect a game of thrones level storytelling from them, and so far, they’ve been pretty solid with that. Hopefully with a deep sea dragon some weapons will go from water to land and vice versa. Underwater is a mechanic very rarely well done; if they get it right, they’ll certainly make a name for themselves.

What statement previously stated bout the deep sea dragon? I never heard them say anything that we fight her in the sea. Dragons can move!

I’ve done some fantasising bout her and this is how I see a strong story bout the DSD.
She (in my imagination) is a female dragon and the mother of all other elder dragons. When we kill her last and favourite son she gets enraged and hurtles to the mainland to kill the people responsable for killing her kids and all that helped him.

Is it going to go that way?? likely not. But also don’t asume we fight and kill her underwater. Personally I think they would love to try it, but also know it is difficult and they likely have a good backup plan ready.

I dont think this is a good idea. Save up the gold and buy it from the trading post.

That’s not possible they are way overpriced for what they are worth. It’s just a couple of manipulators that are buying the items to drive the prices high. Nothing to do with how valuable the items are

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/36340

This is the situation. there are only 3 on supply and 1332 on demand. So if a demand offer is forfilled, it is most commonly NOT relisted for a new price. The situation is just that most of these items are extremely rare and most of them are bound already. You clearly have too much fantasy and no idea how the market really works.

whats next, claiming that it is Rothschild family behind it all??

The step from staff getting mainhand is not so difficult as spear going land.

There are two reasons for this:
1: Kamohoali’i Kotaki is the spear legendary. It is fully designed for a water theme, but more important, the animation are made for udnerwater. This would need a total rework to be a land legendary.
2: Many weaponsets don’t have spear, harpoongun, trident. This has to be rectified, meaning that they have to design new skins, which means more work.

In houlbrak your questhelper keeps pointing to Wayfairer foothills untill you get 100% map completion (find all PoI’s, Waypoints and vista’s, do all hearts and skillpoints) there.

If you don’t feel like doing so, you can move to a level 15-25 map. there are 4 of them and two of them border Wayfairer foothills, but I name them all, as well as the theme there.

1: diessa plateau. This is charr area and you should have allready been there to kill that shirtless guy. It is a forest area in the autumn and part of the Charr Territory. The portal is at the east border of wayfairer foothills (a bit to the north, but mind you, in the far north-east corner is a portal to a level 70-80 map!)

2: Snowden drift. This is Norn Territory and in the snow with high mountains. the portal is in the northwest corner of wayfairer foothills.

3: Kessex Hills. This is human territory. Once this was a blushing open area with green hills and blue lakes. Recently the Krait and the nightmare court build here a gigantic tower that blew up and left half of the map destroyed (but still plenty to do there!)
To get there, go to houlbrak, travel to Lion’s Arch using the asura portal and then onward to Divnity reach. From there exit to the south and go to the south of the human startermap (queensdale). There are portals to Kessex hills at the south west and south east corner.

4: Brisban wildlands: jungle area and territory claimed both by Asura and Sylvari with also a big Skritt town in the central mountain. To reach this, go to lion’s Arch. Go then to rata sum, find the portal to Metrica province (the town on the top level is a triangle, you need one of the portals in the east corner of that triangle). From there cross this startermap to the north-east corner to enter brisban wildlands.

Alternatively, you can also do the other starterarea’s. See above for queensdale (human) and Metrica province (Asura). From caledon forrest go through Lion’s Arch to the grove (sylvari capital) and from the top level of the town leave through the far-north exit. For Plains of Ashford (charr) go to the black citadel and go through the eastern exit.

Requests for Exclusive Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I think the answer is no.

A game need exclusive drops. The reason is that (some type of) players want them. The reason is no different then e.g. the reason why in real life, some people drive a porsche. They want to brag. They want you to envy what they got.

The value of this is determined by how many heads turn when they pass by and how many times people start threads like this. the more you say you want them, the more rare they become.

Why is it important to have such items in a game?? cause people have a need to be unique and some have this more then others. The more unique you want to be, the more expensive it is.

The only bad thing bout the current top exclusive items are that they where not designed that way. It would be better if e.g. the chainsword was repeated every year and the top exclusive items where introduced with the black lion weapons.
But it is too late to turn back now. Taking out the exclusivity now is unfair for those who used this as an investment.

2 Requests Selling and passwords

mercury ranique.2170

1.) I can sell 13 items in the Black Lion Trading Company then I have to “wait”….Really!? I have 5 20 slot bags and I an only clear 13 items?

It is NOT 13 items. It is also not a bug. It is intended and working as intended. It works so that bots have trouble botting the tradepost. So the mechanic is important. As usual with anti-botting mechanics, it is not discussed how it works publically (otherwise botwriters could circumstance it better). But more or less it is like this (numbers fictional cause that is the unknown part).

The time out is hit based on the time between listing items. Everytime you list something you get e.g. 5 points. Every second not selling anything a point is removed. whenever you hit e.g. 50 points, you get the error and have to wait till you drop below the 50 points again (and it is actually better to wait for a good amount of time till it resets.

The best way to circumstance this is either selling in parts, or taking more time between sales. I’m often selling while chatting. I do that inbetween and never got issues.

2.) Your password system is terrible…I never know what my password is because your system is far far far far far far far far far too restrictive. I thing its “monkey purple wrench pool” right now. So easy to remember!

The password system is perfect and to be honest, you shouldn’t need to remember your password. Mine is stored in my GW1 jewel case, which is stored in my bookcase in my home.

I live alone and I trust my visitors. If someone breaks in my home I doubt they will do so to steal my GW2 password. If you can’t trust the people with whom you live, then I think there are more important reasons to get a locked cashbox to safe important papers in like your list of passwords.

The password system is complicated so that your account doesn’t get hacked i nthe first place. Take security serious!

Bring on the update that fixes LA completely!

Time between destruction and start of rebuilding Lion’s Arch: 14 months
Time between Haiti earthquake and rebuilding: +5 years
time between 9/11 and start building one world center: 5 years.

So compared to real life, the timeframe is actually pretty short. I know it is a game, but when it comes to reality, it is actually very short!

How does GW2 Compare To...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

First off all, you are really comparing apples and oranges. The reason is that the businessmodel is different without monthly fees.

WoW has a system where you have an endless geargrind. This means that it is hard to cancel the sub and stop playing if you plan on returning. the content that is released for the game is based on that concept and so is endgame.

GW2 doesn’t need to have players to be hooked cause the players don’t pay the monthly fee. due to the lower amount of income, the amount of content released is more casual and less frequent.

Looking at the core game, it has bout 1000 hours of PvE (it took me bout 5 months to get full map completion, do all dungeons and all paths while playing 6 hours per day). The content released since then was about 300 hours in total of content. Unfortunally, the majority of this was remporary content that is now unavailable (Arenanet has left that path and is now only releasing permanent content). This is all free content off course.

But the core game alone is more then enough to have a good time and money well spend!

suggestions: preset keybindings and HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

As we now know that Ventari’s legend on the revenant doesn’t have an active self heal, I want to make another plead for an option to safe keybindings AND make keybindings souldbound.

to explain the first.
Having an option to safe your keybinds means that you can load another set of keybinds relative easy.
Having the keybinds soulbound means that you can change the binds per character and the game remembers that for you.

This request is nothing new but I think it gets more important with HoT. The main (but no only reason) is the revenant. We know now that ventari’s skills won’t have an active self heal (the “6” position is used to summon the tablet and to move it around, the tablet self has an AoE group heal).

But there are more reasons. HoT knows a change in mechanics for example while gliding. This means that people likely want to be more versatile when binding keys involved with that.

So these two options are even more QoL then it ever was!

I’m not sure why people keep saying they have no date set for release.

Any and I mean any software company has a road map which outlines updates, features, and their projected release dates. Projected dates is a key part but when they start their sprints, they know what defects and bugs exist through a serious of uat/qa tasks.

They absolutely have a release date goal set in stone and barring any major setback, it will be released on that date which they will give us when they’re ready.

That is exactly why so many company’s had to postpone releases. Yes they have a roadmap. Yes they also have deadlines. But it is NOT set in stone. Arenanet actually keep thier promised release date, while all those other company’s don’t (on a regular base). The only exception is Utopia, but that one got cancelled cause of a total change of plans.

“Is the community still as cordial as it was?”

I believe it is even better.
The biggest power of this game is that there are lil reason to be trollish or poiseness. In other games in the genre I’ve played there are things like loot-stealing and even resource stealing. The trinity makes the tank blame the healer, the healer blame the dps and the dps blame the tank. GW2 has always been very focussed on cooperation and avoiding those situations.

Whenever things go out of hand, Arenanet jumps in. For example the Queensdale train. People where constantly bickering over it and so Arenanet nerfed it. Those kind of steps have kept our community better then average.

Off course there are still trolls. You can’t ban them forever and trolls often aren’t always trolls. often there are other (still unforgivable) reasons for bad behaviour.

The game had a lot of changes. Including a new player experience and the new living world end game content. So lots of things to do while levelling. the best thing…No monthly fees. the game is yours.. All you need to do is download the updates and find out for yourself!

What you get for finishing all daily tasks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Does anyone know the cap or is there only a cap on the dailies? I have completed several achievements and done my dailies some days.

There’s only a cap on the dailies, nothing else. You can gain as many achievement points as you want at any given time so long as you have the skill and time to do so.

There are other repeatable achievements that are capped.

But it is only achievementpoints from dailies that are capped. So achievementpoints from other sources don’t count for the cap.
So the max amount of achievementpoints you can get from doing daily’s is 15000 achievementpoints. This is in the current system 1500 days of dailies or 4.1 years of doing them every day.

The reason some people got the cap is that the system was different. There was also a monthly. The daily cap was 10000 and the monthly cap was 5000. Besides that, you got a smaller amount of achievementpoint for each daily task and monthly task.

Other achiement categories that got caps are

hobby dungeon explorer (cap is 200 points, so doing 40 times 5 dungeons)
Agent of entropy (cap is 250 points which equals 30.400 salvages)
some activity achievements (like repeating keg ball)
And possibly some I’m forgetting.

Each cap is for thats specific task. So other sources of achievementpoints dont count for that task.

If it is an samorai (or something simular): then it is a greatsword
If it is a minstrell: then it is a focus offhand (and maybe a new onhand too e.g. a scepter).
kitten far it is rumoured to be the minstrell, I suspect the last.

Level 23 newbie, some questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

—Why not sell everything?—
I am just listing everything I find on the Trading Post as “sell instantly”. Usually the difference between the “sell instantly” price and the best buyback price is just a few coppers, so it feels like an “infinite storage bag” at the moment. Sell everything and buy back what I need if I need it, for a small fee.

That small fee is 15%
And yes you are paying for it. One way of making money is flipping. Those people put up buy offers to buy stuff cheap (the price you get when you hit “sell instantly”). Then they put it back on the tradepost (the actual flip) for a price atleast 16% higher. As the fee is 15% (5 procent to list it and 10% taxes) everything above it is profit for that trader.
Crafting materials are stored per stack in your material tab in the bank. So you have a lot of storage. Your better of keeping it.
further. it might be interesting to salvage green and blue weapons and armor with a salvage kit. It gives you a lot of material (special light armor materials are worth a lot) and it also gives you essences of luck that increases your accounts magic find. Magic find improves the drops you get and will make you money in the long term.

—What’s the money for?—
Sure it probably wastes some in-game money but then I don’t really have anything to spend the in-game money on either! I don’t see the need for better armour or weapons, because the game is not very challenging yet from a combat perspective, just using whatever weapons I find.

Endgame gear is slightly more expensive. For a first time player you will need to save up some resources while levelling for the first time or farm a lil at max level, but it is not hard to get it at all (unless you want ascended gear, but trust me, it is not worth it on your first character at max level, it only makes you 3% stronger). The most money is going into moneysinks and into skins.

The endgame gear is easy to get, but the best skins are expensive.

Level 23 newbie, some questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Level 23 newbie, loving the world design, but the game-play has raised some questions:

—Why craft?—
As I understand it I should be using the things that I find to craft items. I don’t really understand why? I haven’t managed to craft anything yet. I picked up some copper ore and it seemed like I should be able to make it into copper ingots, but I couldn’t work out how to in the GUI. So I sold the ore on the Trading Post to clear space in my bags.

Crafting is only important for getting end gear items. But for that purpose it is important to craft at some stage. Selling now means only that you will buy it later (which is perfectly fine, but you do loose 2 times 15% in taxes).

Copper ore is used as a main ingredient in three crafting disciplines. Jeweller (to make jewels), weaponsmith (to make metal weapons like swords and maces) and armorsmith (to make heavy armor).

A jeweller refines copper into copper ores. Weaonsmiths and armorsmiths refine them into nronze. Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. So you will also need tin (which is not farmed but sold by the vendor next to the crafting station).

Once you got 10 copper ores and 1 lump of tin, you go to the crafting station for weaponsmith or armorsmith and go to the production tab. You now will see that under refinement that the line forbronze is highlighted with a number behind (indicating how much times you can craft this). You hit the button to make and your done.

To make a usuable item you also need to further get mats. and half fabrics.

e.g. for a sword you need to have three things.
1 pummel (requires bronze ingots)
1 blade (requires bronze ingots)
1 inscription (requires wood dowel and a fine material. The dowel is made from refined planks, that on thier turn are made out of wood you harvest. The fine material drops from lootbags or directly from foes. The exact fine material decides the stat of the sword you are making. For example a bone chip will make you a sword with +vitality and a vial of weak blood will make you a sword with +power)

Once you got these three ingredients you go to the discovery tab and put these three in (you got room for four cause higher level items require 4 things, but its ok to put in just three). Then it will say it can craft something so you do so. Then the recipe for that sword is added to your production tab and you got your first sword.

For a armorsmith pair of shoes it is simular.
You need:
1 bronze chain boot panel (made out of bronze ingots)
1 bronze chain boot lining (made out of refined jute and jute thread which you buy at the vendor)
1: jute insginia (simular to the inscription for a weapon. this requires more jute (and later on higher fabrics) and a fine material. the fine material will decide the stats of the boots).

Once you made these three you can discover the recipe for the boot.

Jeweller:
This ons is slightly different For an earring you need:
1: copper hook (made of copper ingots)
1: copper setting (made of copper ingots)
1: gemstone (the type of gem decides the type of stats on the earring, you don’t have to craft these)
These three can be discovered to get your first earring and to add theat recipe to your production tab.

There is a bit more to crafting at higher levels, but this should get you started on the three professions that use copper

Nobody knows how the transition between the old and the new system would go. You asume that only skills unlocked at the moment of the transition will be transferred. I find that extremely unlikely.
The way they did the last transition of traits is that all existing characters (despite the level) got all traits unlocked (although the traitline stayed unlocked till you where ate the appropiate level). I imagine the same is going to happen here.

Instead of fixating on one way of doing this transition properly, trust them they will do it properly and fair. They have done so in the past at all scores (yes they ruined the trait unlock system, but the transition for existing characters was fair and ok).

I suspect that all skillpoints only have use as a currency after the patch, so it doesn’t be needed for them to be accountbound

They haven’t released anything on the GW2 website about the price or date of release for the expansion. No one outside of the development team knows when it’ll be released or what the price will be.

No one in the development team knows when the launch is either.
they likely have a preferred launch date, but it is very likely not set in stone yet. The simple reason is that it isn’t ready yet.

For example. We recently had a beta event. One of the loudest feedbacks was the lack of quality of the night-part of the event cycle. This is something they likely has to fix. I asume this is easily done, but it could also mean that they have to solve it by redesigning the entire event sequence and building it up again from scratch. Such thing could potentially slow down the entire process that the internal wish date has to be moved.

So nobody knows for sure. Unlike some company’s Arenanet never announced a releasedate and had to postpone it later (unless you count some struggle where a release failed and was delayed with several hours cause of technical issues).

One step closer to holy trinity with Ventari

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I personally think that GW2 took the no trinity stuff one step too far. The traditional way the trinity works is wrong.

You got tanks agroing everything, dps (and sometimes CC as a separate role) doing the damage and healers healing the tanks. The reason that is boring is cause the tanks can hold all the agro. In GW2 the agrosystem prevents that allready. Still a bit more diversity would be important. A tank holding bout 50% of the agro and a bit more specialisation as a healer would mean that the fight difficulty can be increased a lot and it would encourage coop instead of the current hit it hard tactic.

Selling Twilight and buying Eternity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

If you got a sunrise and a twilight, then it is always cheaper to make eternity then to sell one of them and then buy eternity. Eternity is 1000 gold more expensive then twilight. So in your case you save bout 985 gold by making eternity and putting new sigils on it.

Why do people still sell eternity?
Cause of your situation..
If you bind sunrise or twilight it looses the economic value cause you can’t sell it anylonger. unless you craft eternity. Then it regains most of its value again.

Vanilla Profession Question

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Having the same, but different isn’t bad in my opinion. It doesn’t need to be better and better is a subjective opinion.

Currently I’m playing elder scrolls online (besides GW2 to bridge the gap till the expansion comes). One of the things there is that you can become a vampire. Translated to GW2 it does the following (within the GW2balance and roughly).
1: You get access to 2 extra utility skills and an elite skill. they are not better or less then others, but ok. Those are optional too.
2: you get a passive effect that gives you 20% more power.
3: you take 40% more damage from critical hits
4: health regen is reduced by 50%

Now…4 and 1 are not really important. The reduced health regen is a hinderance (but self heal when out of combat is easy). the first is just more choice.
What is strong is 2 and 3. It turns you more into a glasscanon, but at the same time you do less against zerker in PvP-formats cause the crits are way harder. I have not a clue how such thing would turn out in GW2, but it would be interesting to watch.

Why am I saying all this?? Just to put in some effort in proving a point that the same (in balance terms) doesn’t mean it is different in gameplay and experience. It is a choice you make. It shouldn’t make you better, but it should make you different.

When can I pre-order?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Pre-order is available only at third party vendors, using a placeholder price. The pre-order directly at Arenanet is no available at this moment and is likely a better offer. GW2 pre-order came with access to beta weekend events, 3 day headstart (thirdparty preorders had no beta weekend events and only a 1 day headstart) and the Arenanet preorder had some extra goodies. So my advice… Patience my friend…Patience..

Guild QoL Improvements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mercury ranique.2170

I’m hoping that whenever they give us the info on Guild Halls in HoT, they will discuss other QoL changes they are bringing to guild management. They’ve hinted such things are coming but are completely close lipped on any details.

I think this is the same issue with other innovative elements in HoT. they can’t tell us too much cause then competition knows too. They want to keep the innovative stuff away from being public knowledge as long as possible. So given the fact that we know nothing bout Guild QoL stuff and given the hints that we might see stuff in HoT it is either a very bad omen (no guild QoL) or a very good omen (a lot of innovative changes for guilds). looking at how the API is improved for guilds over the last few weeks, my bet is on the improvements.

I would be immensely happy if they move the “Leave Guild” button away from the “Represent” button. It’s uncomfortably close.

100% agreed!
Not left a guild that often…but isn’t there an “are you sure” window?? It is the one “are you sure” window that is actually needed! Maybe even get people to type the name of the guild

Jumping puzzles: yuck

Jumping puzzles are indeed not for everyone, but are also loved by a great part of the community. So please make more!

The game is an MMO. This means that other people play it. just except that there is content that isn’t for you.

I personally dislike fractals and I dislike SAB, but I’m happy for those who like those formats when they get extended (or returns in the case of SAB). Just as long as my wishes and desires for the game get some love too.

Questons: Heart of Thorns

any answer is speculation, but reading the article, it seems to be an AoE healing skill with a very small range round the shard

As all healing skills are affecting downed players, it is likely that the shards will do the same.

So according to this, the answer is yes.

However…the question is if it a valuable tactic. My first guess would be no.
I suspect the shards to not stay in the world forever. If I had to guess, to not make them OP, they likely only stay in the world for a few seconds. The range and amount of healing is enough to do some serious healing, but it doesn’t stay active long. So wether or not you got time to move closer to a shard is currently unknown. My guess is that it won’t. The healing effect is described as a secondary effect and with the primary effects it would make the elite too OP.

Why no Risen Centaur?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

All jokes aside, the in-game explanation is likely that the Risen haven’t reached most of the centaur lands yet, with the possible exception of southwestern Kessex Hills (but that and the swamp at the southwestern end of Gendarran Fields are the northernmost limits of the Risen advance in any case). Note that there also seem to be no risen skritt, ogres or grawl either, likely for the same reason – none of the known communities of those races are within the zones of Risen activity. We do have risen quaggan, however; several quaggan communities are under direct threat from Zhaitan’s minions, and others have been overwhelmed.

Yup, this most likely. We may meet some centaur Mordrem as we go further into the Maguuma jungle, but I don’t think the centaurs will have ever been affected by Zhaitan’s corruption.

I think it got actually great potential to up it a notch in the story.
Sylvari are “conditioned” by Ventari (a centaur).
The centaur where once spread all over the world, but humans pushed them back.
They always had a strong presence in the maguuma.
Sylvari are uncorruptable cause they are allready minions.
We don’t know how this happened.
Wynn went to live with the centaurs directly after she found out that sylvari belong to the dragon. Why is unknown.

So if Centaur are uncorruptable, existed before humans, and perhaps at the last rise of the elder dragons…they got some great potential in holding the key to why the sylvari existed and why they are mordrem (although some can resist).

I don’t know how it ends and I don’t have a firm theory, but it has a lot of potential in the story.

Hmm HoT then Halloween?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

IF (big IF) the launch is late august. Then experience with 2012 is that Arenanet has enough time to design halloween afterwards. They can also choose to put halloween 2013 (with the 2014 alterations) on another repeat.

I don’t think the mad king dungeon will ever return. The first reason is that it was never a real dungeon, but just an instance that used dungeon mechanics. The second is that it was part of the break out story that the mad king returned for the first time in 500 years.

As for SAB: Do not expect SAB being developed before the start of HoT. The main issue is that it is a Josh Foreman product. That guy is just too awesome and needed for HoT.

The bunny ears is the exception that confirms the rule. It is actually a bit of a coverup, but it turned out that the bunny ear was made of real bunny scalps and that Gnashblade was singlehande scalping those bunnies alive. The lion arch council forbid this practise and gave a big fine to Evon.

Revenant roleplay - hidden arcana

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Ugh, I had something typed out but the forums wiped it. I’ll try and re-type it…

I like a lot of this lore info except for one thing:

How does Anet justify Revenants being able to kill Zhaitain if Rytlock is the “world’s first Revenant” and by the time he returns Zhaitan is already dead?

The only thing I could come up with is that Revenants are affected by some funky Mists time shenanigans that simulate the experience of killing Zhaitan in the past and, when we finish that, we are returned to the “normal” timeline where we are right now. I would like to see them make some sort of official statement about this, because it’s a bit difficult to see making sense at the moment…

The reason is that timelines in GW2 are not fluid. Maps are often frozen in time. We are therefor constantly traveling forward and backward in time. The best way to explain it is like this.

The official GW2 timeline is part of the lore. But besides that, there is a personal timeline that you can follow on your own. If you are playing a revenant, you are just starting your character. In that universe the personal timeline is different then the official time in such way that rytlocks return has happened before the destruction of Zhaithan. After that we are jumping back in time into the frozen state of e.g. the black citadel and the plains of ashford. Cause that is frozen in time, we encounter Rytlock the Warrior and not Rytlock the revenant.

This is simulat to when you travel to lions arch. Even though Scarlet came, destroyed the town and it is rebuild, you still get to defend the town from Zhaithan invading.

Didn’t watch the entire video (who got time for that!).

But in general I imagine that they would first only do the HoT mobs. When it is working good and the reception is good it can be employed to the main game in fases (if it is worth chancing). They can also choose then to not do the main game openb world, but still do the dungeons and other instances.

But from a management-development objective, I would HoT-only first and then evaluate to see if you want to extend it.

300 gold for Mystic Forge Precursor Gambling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

There is always a chance that you’ll get one, but it is always just a chance. there is no magic number that will garantee you a precursor. The average amount of gold invested into getting a precursor out of the forge is actually higher.

so if you like to gamble and don’t mind loosing the 300 gold, go ahead. If you really want a precursor, safe on till you can buy it from the TP.

If you do the later, keep in mind that HoT will have precursor crafting. This means that if you reach the number needed when HoT launches, you might be better off doing that, but as specifics are unknown, you can just keep saving and whatever comes first comes first.

I know a game (ESO) that does it. there it works, but I don’t think it will in GW2. As you allready got access to the maps and area’s, it would only be the story instances. Those are rather short and would be out of context.

Also, in ESO, the task is given to you by a supreme being (actually the comical note character, played by the fabulous john Cleese, but he does it on behalf of a supreme being). In GW2 it would make no sense. They can’t pull a supreme being out of the hat (the 6 are gone, the pale tree is a mordrem and the elder dragons are up to no good), and I don’t see any other way to do it properly.

It also has no need for the storytelling. We allready get to meet the other races very well through Destiny’s edge and destiny’s orphans. In season 2 they did a great job in getting the PC to all capitals and learning bout thier problems.

Last of all, the suggestion bout having e.g. asura cultural armor on e.g. a human….
They did use the cultural human light armor (T3) once for a gemstore skin (flamekissed armor) and the forum litterally exploded cause the human cultural armor was loosing its uniqueness. I don’t think it is wise to go there again.

You’re missing a few features there, like, 90% of them.

Like what ? Precursor craft ? Flying? Useless Mastery Abilities ? Revenant 2 handed hammer throwing ranger? LOL
1 Wvw map
Quite poor update but this is my Pov. and if you don’t like move along sorry …

Only 2 things are exciting Guild halls and new wepons for classes …. but again just my POV

You said:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns

You might not personally feel like the expansion is going to fit your need for quantity of content, but don’t be disingenuous and pretend like it isn’t coming out with more than you say it is to fit a particular agenda of yours, whatever it may be. From what you’ve typed in your past two posts, you clearly do not know about all of the things they’ve announced so far as you leave most of them out, which is why I called you out on it.

Your opinion isn’t an opinion if you’re claiming for a fact that it’s merely “one more weapon per class and some masteries, maybe a map”.

To play devil’s advocate for a minute, at first taking a glance at what was to come it sounded like a glorified paid feature pack with a map thrown in as a bonus. But then again I’m playing the waiting game like everyone else, so I’m going to stay completely neutral to the matter to whenever get another more in depth look on these features.

But that’s perfectly reasonable to do. We don’t know all of the information, but we do know a good bit and it’s much more than they would ever do in a single update patch. I’m also holding back my excitement because I don’t feel like overhyping it. I would rather have it pleasantly surprise me with more than I thought it would have. I’m a little antsy about the “challenging content” information, because this might be the big part, but again trying to not get too hyped.

To be fair…
I’m a veteran GW1 player. During the 5 year wait for GW2 there where always a lot of people qq-ing bout the lack of features and the lack of content that the game would have. In the end it turned out to be a lot bigger then we all expected.

I truly think that there is a lot more in HoT then what is told to us so far. Keep in mind they confirmed that they where working on “other stuff then the living world and feature packs” atleast since summer 2013. They only just told us it would be an expansion.

There is also a good reason they can’t tell us everything yet. You might have noticed, but many other games have copied stuff from GW2. Arenanet is revolutionary in the way they aproach the genre. Telling us everything also means that competitors know.

Even if the price would be 60 euro’s and even if the content would be dissapointing, I would still get. Arenanet, to me, has changed the way to think bout mmorpg’s. the lack of monthly fees is totally worth spending 60 euro’s again!

Compared to some other games it is still a 100 euro win per year (60 euro’s for the original game, means 20 euro per year, compared to 120 euro’s on monthly fees a year, that is a 100 euro gain to me)

I think that you should have stopped when you where doing "made up " challenges.
I’m a dedicated player since launch. Even during season 2 I was starting to get bored. When the expansion was announced, I did level a sylvari ranger (my other sylvari is specialised in WvW, and cause I’m interested in the druid, I made that one as a sylvari HoT toon). Since then I’m mostly playing a different game (the elder scrolls online). I still log in for the daily. I also farmed for a beta portal (and was lucky). When the expansion hit, not only will it be fresh content for me, but also the rest of the game will be fresh again. Without monthly fees and endless geargrinds, there is no need for goodbye. This isn’t hotel california. You can check out anytime you want, and everyone is still happy when you return.

Expectations about Xpac

GW1 utopia was cancelled in early 2007 and that is when they started working on GW2 (they also released GW:EotN in between, but then they where allready writing some story lines for GW2 and also working on the concepts).

GW2 released in 2012, so 5 years later and it blew our minds. It was exceeding our expectations (or atleast mine).

If that is a good indicator of the invested time/quality factor then my expectations of HoT are high.

Suggestion: Create Account Outfit Token

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Don’t think something like that will ever happen, because then noone would ever use or buy transmutation charges.

I think if priced reasonable it is not an issue.

A reasonable price would be 1800 gems. (to get the same result on a different character using charges you need 6 charges. So the price is based on 60 charges, which equals 10 changes. So for the price of 10 times changing to a certain look, using charges you gain a permanent constume to do the same.

There are however 2 issues
1: There are no skins for cultural armor on other races. So they either have to create them for all races(which is likely going to lead to an outrage cause cultural armor gets less unique, like we saw when human light armor was re-used for a set) or not include them (which leads to a problem with item tekst and likely a lot of support refund requests cause people bought this item and thought they could use it for cultural armor).

2: Making different armor types available as a costume on other classes, makes a class less recognisable in PvP and WvW. Now there are limited costumes, that are easy to spot, that are available for all classes, but when you see a player in heavy plated armor, you know it is either a warrior, a guardian or a revenant (in the future). With this change it can very well be an ele.

So all in all a nice idea if reasonable priced, but with some nasty impractical issues that are difficult to overcome.
