Hop 7 and 8 are blanked cause that hops firewall is blocking ping commands. This means that it is impossible to trace. When I trace to the same IP. I get blocked after the same level13.net (but not san jose). the hops that are shown are well within limits. Including the final hops (which is inside the datacenter).

@Daywolf.2630 : arin.net is not a registry business. but the official north america IP-distribution service. It often shows up on ip-lookups, cause they keep track of the whois info. If you only get that info, use a different whois service. I did a whois and it came up with a different location and even the company name. Level 3 communication. This is an internet service provider in colorado. In this case it gives a location in Richardson – texas. As this is a different location then that of the datacenter, it is an external party.

To OP…when did these issues started??
Did it started after a gap of playing? or overnight?
between the last time it worked fine and the first time you had issues…did anything change at your end (for example, router, firewall, internet provider). It might be just a matter of decent port forwarding in your router. The trace looks good (74ms on the final hop is well within limits), so the connection is stable and working fine.

Beta only allows rangers to have 1 pet?

I’m waiting to see if I get an answer from someone who is qualified to give one.

keep quoting yourself. I’ll help you.

You won’t get an answer from anyone qualified to give one. further…it is against the forum rules to ask for it. So you either have to stick with the answers we are giving (and show a lil bit of gratitude or atleast respect that people take time to answer you), or don’t ask questions at all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usability_testing

The correct term for this Beta is usability testing. a full definition can be found in this link. The product shown is neither a full product or a finished product. There is likely a very good reason why the ranger was only allowed one pet. My best bet would be that it has to do with the changes they are making to the ranger. As we didn’t have a ranger reveal yet, you will not get any official answer either. That won’t happen before that reveal (and the reveal is done when they are ready to do so).
Don’t asume from this either that the ranger will loose the abillity to use two pets. The reason is simply that in the beta they had to replace the new functionality with something more familiar. As it is just for a beta, why bother with two pets.

Where is promised challenging HOT content?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

mercury ranique.2170

It feels like aNet is selling us DLC, which is sadly far from expansion!
I expected bosses to be more challenging with new mechanics, not just CC bar, but actual AI (Artificial Intelligence) behaviour, they don’t hit hard enough to even force you to dodge, you can “in your face” all the dmg, but that’s not even the point. Static non-movement creatures are making me not even want to go in HoT PvE.

What i’m expecting from GW2 AI creatures:

  • zoning mechanics
  • area control mechanics
  • special combinations to defeat enemy
  • higher DPS from mobs to force people to dodge
  • more Dry Top Coloque Queen mechanics
  • non-static smart path finding and decision making
  • faster damage target changing and applying more pressure on player
  • NO MORE EASY CONTENT THAT I CAN ACCOMPLISH BY AFK-ING THE EVENT

Where is the content that they called challenging for “non-casual” players in HoT?
“Beautiful content is not enough for me, where are the AI-npc mechanics that were promised?, Artificial Intelligence of creatures is under expectation of 2015 era..”

With other words, I can hardly call this EXPANSION, when it looks more like DLC pack..

GW2 / challenging content.

The true issue here is that you want this game to be something it isn’t. It is aimed for casual players. Whenever they do create something challenging, it is tuned down so everyone can do it (Liadra for example).

There is also a very good reason. Experienced high level players rush through the content in a fast pace and never stick around long. They don’t go into role playing or dress-up games. The result is that they are not interesting as customers cause they just don’t spend much in the cashshop.

So if you want challenging content, GW2 is not your game.

[Suggestion] Recognize players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

A while back, there was a thread going on discussing what options for Mail Carriers that people wanted/were willing to buy. One suggestion was a Quaggan hanging from a balloon flying in a dropping your mail. 5 months after that post, we were blessed with the most amazing mail carrier in game. Being the person who made that suggestion, I stared at the animation and enjoyed it enough to go and buy it from the gem store.

I think it would be a good PR move to give players who suggest things such as these a free version of it and give them some recognition. While I suggested the Quaggan Mail Carrier, I am not saying I want fame or anything… its more that if something is used that was suggested by a player, if that player gets recognition, it feels more that ArenaNet is actually listening to suggestions from the community and may actually encourage others who may have some fantastic ideas out there.

a long time ago, when there wasn’t GW2, and there wasn’t an official forum. The fans of GW gathered on the GW1 guru website. When asked why arenanet never reacted to suggestions, someone from Arenanet explained the reasons. It has to do with legal issues and copyright. By reacting to a suggestion in any form, Arenanet aknowledge that it was not their invention.

Take the example of your balloon quaggan. I do think that arenanet would like to do exactly as you propose. But what if another game copy’s this, and puts a quaggan like character in and make a mail carrier doing exactly the same. Arenanet will likely sue this company for a copyright case. The defense will look in all hooks and corners and then argue that it wasn’t Arenanet’s idea and so it isn’t a copyright case.

So unfortunally it is not wise from a legal point of view, and sadly, laywers have a lot of power in this world.

Suggestion: Change Display Name

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mercury ranique.2170

Today if a character name is bad , next logon you are asked to change it.

Why it’s not the same for the display name ? ok i had a bad display name but why i was not allowed to choose a new one to fix my error ? But instead , someone at A.net decided my new display name for me and also gave me a generous suspension of 72 hours during the third and last 2012 GW2 BETA Week-end event for this .. so i didn’t play at all.

So yeah .. i want to fix this .. im even ready to pay for it .

Fun times.

Cause your displayname is your ID. Simular to e.g. the US social security number. It is how you are identified. By changing that displayname, you basicly whipe someones record clean. It also has consequences for proving ownership and if done falsly, it means that a victum of accounttheft has a lot more issues to proof ownership.

So it is not as easy as the charactername.

I’ll complicate it even more, I paid for both accounts with my credit card. I see your point, it’s big mess that they don’t have to want to sort through. Although, if my wife decided to leave me, a GW2 account would be the least of my worries.

That doesn’t really complicate it. The person who paid can’t claim ownership. It is perfectly possible that (if you would like me), you buy a code, sent it to me and let it redeem me. That means you have given me the game as a present. As it is given, you can’t just recall that gift. The obvious exception is of course if you recall it in a reasonable amount of time (for example cause I stole your creditcard and illegally bought the game). Then you can recall the money and the account gets closed. But you can never claim that account to be yours. As such a recall period has long gone, this is not the matter. Your wife made the account, so she is the account-owner.

And you are right that it should be the least of your worry’s. sadly some relations go so bad that ex-partners want to destroy everything that is precious to their former lover. Good to see you are much more balanced in this matter!!

For all those saying, come back when HoT is ready

Okay, so veteran players leave the game (making it less active than before)
They get on a new game and enjoy that, then see the new price tag for content in gw2 and decide to stay where they are. OR go somewhere else

I’m in this boat. I’ve played for 2,5 years non stop. when the living story season 3 finished and it showed that HoT was still some time away, I’ve decided to pick up a different game with no monthly fees. It has been incredible liberating. I do not feel unloyal to GW2. I still login daily. I still play the game. Just not as frequent as I did.

will I return? hell yes!!

The point in this is the assumption that when one leaves, he will not go back. This thread is commonly made, but it is my direct experience it just doesn’t work that way. The day LA got rebuild, my friendslist was filled with people I hadn’t seen online for weeks and sometimes even months. This was even worse everytime a new living world release came out. Off course…some customers will be lost forgood. but that happens to any game. You gain them too all the time.

So I’m not worried at all and it is a non argument cause the majority of this group will come back.

among those that wont come back will be those that let themself burn out too much. So when you stop enjoying playing, stop playing and go elsewhere. don’t get so burned out it will be permanent.

The modern MMO market with no monthly fees supports this a lot more and you will feel much more happy.

Suggestion: Change Display Name

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I inherited this display name from my wife at launch. She was unable to sync her gw1 stuff at the time so she bought another account and gave me this one. I asked three years ago to have it changed and was told to be patient.

All they have to do is add an option for display name instead of using the account name. It’s not that kittening hard.

Account Name and # = used by Anet for whatever reason they need to use it for.

Display Name = Just a name linked to your Account Name and number and is what shows up on your forum posts, in your friend list when offline.

Character name= self explanatory.

To be honest. strictly spoken you are acting in violation of the user agreement. An account is personal and if your wife made the account, she agreed to the user agreement and is therefor the rightfull owner. Account sharing is not allowed. In general, support doesn’t make a fuzz out of things, speciall when it is between man and wife. But in the case that (and I wish this not for you!!) that you two get into a fight and split and in case she wants to play it nasty, she can rightfully claim the account as hers, cause she is the owner. That is exactly why a display name change is so incredible difficult. From a legal point of view, it is her account. By letting you change the displayname she would be unable to prove ownership and you would be technically stealing the account.

I’m not at all saying you are a bad person (nor your wife). But please understands that break ups happen, relationships break up and it can get messy. That is why account ownership is such a big thing.

What you should have done is get support to fix the initial name change, or atleast got a refund for the account that was bugging. From the refund money you could have bought a new key, which you activated and would be handled as yours (and you likely would have chosen a different accountname in the first place).

So your case is exactly showing why this is so complicated.
If an displayname change would be allowed, then it would need to be indeed a one time thing with a very secure proof of ownership manually done by support. Cause if the request doesn’t come from the original owner, that person has a lot more difficulty to proof owernship afterwards.

Don’t get me wrong. I actually agree that there should be an option. some of these names, might not fit into the strict guidelines, but are ill chosen non the less. But security has to be tight.

mercury ranique.2170

First time I heard my own voice during the beta I was very happy and delighted. It creates so much more immersion.

I totally understand that in the living world, you can’t do full dialogues that tell the story. There are 5 different races, 2 sexes per race, so 10 different voices for each language. In total there are 5 languages, so 50 voice actors in total that are needed for each line of text. But hearing your own voice adds a lot of immersion.

My suggestion is to create a database of some common lines that can be used at the start and/or finish of dialogues and also in events inbetween.

For example.
“What, in Ogden’s name is going on here” (with the name even changing depending the race). followed by a text driven dialogue.
“Move out!” After a dialogue
“glad to be here”

Besides the battle quotes, such a database can add in my opinion a lot of immersion to the living story, even if the full dialogues can’t be spoken out loud due to development issues.

I have only one question about HoT...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

mercury ranique.2170

Raids and dungeons are added to keep people interested in the game. Btw they were parts of all pve mmos since the beginning so yeah. It is another game mode not a replacement of openworld.

Raids in other mmos was there to squeeze money from sub fees thats why I am alergic to word “raids”

Well… everything in mmo with sub fee is made to squeeze money from you. You should be allergic to mmos in general.

GW2 and GW1 never had raid and never squeezed money out of people.

The problem with the word raid is that it is associated with the endless geargrind. This endless geargrind is the core of the sequeezing money tactic. (stopping means you slack behind, and will never recover).

That is why I asked how you think coordinated group content would fit in GW2. I dropped the name cause of the bad vibe and I truly think copying that format 1 on 1 to this game is wrong.

There has actually been added a lot that goes into the direction of coordinated group play.

Teq.
triple wurm
guild boss mode for those two and the karka queen
guild missions, rushes, bounty’s etc.
personal story achievement challenges.

So I truly think there is added enough and it gets more then enough attention. The only problem with this content is the same as with all other formats in the game. It doesn’t reward as much. The reason is that GW2 doesn’t want the geargrind.

tl,dr: there is content very simular to raid allready in the game and people don’t do it. So the only reason Raids in other games are popular is cause of the reward/geargrind. Do we need a game that holds our hand in what we should or should no do? or do we want a game that gives you much more freedom??

Adventures in Orr

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

As part of HoT? not likely. HoT is a payed expansion. So all content of HoT will likely be concentrated in the new zones (including the new pvp and wvw maps). This so the people who bought it can be separated from those who didn’t bought it. After HoT’s release, the living world will continue. I truly hope that this will not only revolve around the new maps, but also round the existing ones. This can include adventures in other places of the world. I even think it is a great way to tell more bout the living story without changing too much of the existing maps when it comes to playing through the original storyline.

Having said that, even then I don’t think this will happen in any of the Orr maps. The thematic revolves much more round the main story and the fight against Zaithan. The maps are litterally drenched in that story. The only thing I can imagine is a repeatable adventure in straits of devastation at the vizier’s tower, as part of a story twist that is bout his famous staff.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Raids, as how its done in other games, are not part of HoT.

As for your preference for group instance content. In my opninion that is not what an MMO is all bout. I know many MMO’s have it as a core component of their end game. But goes against the actual concept of an MMO (massive multiplayer online)

I think the first issue with raids is the term. As you can see here, just the term puts many people down as well.

So instead of asking this from a “because all other games do it”-attitude. Why not say why, in your opinion this is beneficial to GW2. In what form and how you think it would fit in. Copy pasting concepts from other games is something that Arenanet will never do.

Overheating GPU

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

“This looks like some software bug in GW2 :/”

Nope. Even if GW2 used 100% of your GPU’s resources and pegged the processor at 100% – it still shouldn’t overheat. Personally, I would replace the thermal grease on your graphics card processor.

You’re Ignoring the fact they’ve stated other games run the GPU at cool. Guild wars should not be using more GPU resources than Witcher on Ultra as stated by the OP. <strong>I’m not assuming you said this,</strong> but If the processor maxes out, the GPU will not take the rest of the load, they both have individual properties, while the CPU focuses on rendering files while the GPU processes its memory to display graphics.

No, I’m simply stating how the hardware is designed to operate. If an engineer designs a video card that cannot sustain 100% load conditions for extended usage without overheating, that engineer should lose his job. It would bad design.

I’m not stating anything about the load that GW2 places on your GPU (which will vary depending on your system) – because it is irrelevant when it comes to temperature.

The fact is, that if your GPU is overheating under any software conditions; either the hardware has a defect or it was improperly designed in the first place.

It really is that simple.

To be honest, I agree and disagree both at the same time.
You are splitting hardware and software too much imo. Both are parts of the total computer and should never be approached as two different things when it comes to “what is responsable” for any faulty behaviour. Very often, not the party that is technically responsable solves the issue, but the party that has the most benefit of fixing it.

So although you are right that a GPU overheating is a serious hardware issue. The cause of increased load (and in this case loop-behaviour cause the card to run at max all the time) isn’t a good issue either. So assuming the given info is all correct and assuming it indeed some kind of loop causing the overheating. there are two issues, both need fixing.
1: overheating.
2: software reving the GPU’s way to much up.

Only fixing the first, will not change the fact that the GPU is getting unwanted commands.
Only fixing the second will not change the fact that the GPU is overheating when udner high pressure.

looking at the map during beta and considering that the game currently runs on computers far below the minimum requirements, the expansion will likely not need raised minimum requirements. But systems that are allready below that (and if you can barely run the game with the current setup, you are running below minimum requirements) can get in unplayable waters sooner.

Masteries too easy?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I was looking through the masteries and I noticed the final one required 10 levels to get. I’m not sure if I am correct but I believe that is what the 10 means. If that is correct, then I think the mastery system will be far too easy to complete and serves as no optimal end-game as promised. Getting 10 levels can be done by a hardcore gamer in a single day by running dungeons/fractals. I’m not sure by how much, but they certainly need to increase the amount of levels required. What is everyone else’s thoughts on this?

Although untested (not possible in the beta either), I have the impression you gain mastery-xp when in the heart of the maguuma. So not when you do e.g. dungeons.

I don’t think the mastery’s are designed to be end game grind content either. For that we still got the legendary’s (specially the new ones)

I have only one question about HoT...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Will there finally be actual raids added to the game? Something for a guild to participate in, together, that isn’t just WvW or some other kind of PvP content? Because that is definitely one of the current drawbacks to the endgame – the only things that guilds can currently work towards, together as a whole, are objectives that force them to compete for limited resources with other guilds. The larger guilds on each server pretty much dominate in this regard, and the smaller guilds get screwed over.

I’m not sure what you mean by competing for limited resources. Guildmissions require influence and merits. but those are not limited resources. You can get as much as you wants (merits needs to be spend, but thats beside the point). Even smaller guilds can relativly easy unlock the guildbounty. Once you’ve done that, it is easy to grow larger and get the numbers to do the other stuff.

The game doesn’t need raid content cause they have the content that is needed. Raids are very undimensional.

To answer your question. The beta showed more bosses that require coordinated group play (two of them to be precise) and no raids at all.

Bugs spotted in beta

  • The troll event near Laranthir at night (the one defending the vine) is broken.

Are you sure you mean at night?? I’ve only seen the defend the base camp and escort the soldiers there at night. The event (at the vine) at daytime is a bit troublesome. My map was extremely close in getting it down. It is one of those group events that require coordinated group play. I’ll try to explain how it works.

1: event happens at two sides of the vine. One is seprated from the vine by a broken bridge. the other is round the mortars.
2: The one at the other side of the broken bridge is reasonable easy. You need to protect Laranthir’s group so they shoot down the champion on top of the rock. As long as you got enough people there, the rest should take the detour to the other side of the bridge to the mortars.
3: at the mortars, keep in mind the rythm. Only a 6 people can actually fire the mortars. So have 6 people assigned to doing so (there are 6 mortars). When the window is open they pick up 1 mortar and walk to the one they are assigned to and fire it. The rest need to not touch the mortar supply (otherwise it drains too quick for the next round).
4: the supply is filled by pact-troups. Make sure to give them speed boosts.

We started unorganised, found all of this out and where very close to finishing when the time ran out.

Multiplayer is not equal to group content.

As in most of the game, the events are group focussed. The tendecy as seen in Drytop, The silverwastes, but even cursed shore continues there. However, the exploration element is solo-focussed. Further. much events use the simple hack and slash-tactic. Only a very few events require actual cooperation. So no need to interact with anyone and still have fun.

So no you can’t solo the events, but it is not as if you have to be in a party or communicate with people around you either.

New player - servers always full.

No there is no easier way. That server is just overpopulated.
The choice of server only matter for World vs World. for the rest it has zero influence.
you can also change server later (for a modest fee, or for free if you delete all your characters). So you can enjoy all of it except one format, togewther with your friends, right now.

As for getting into that server.
The normal answer is to try it at “odd times”. the “full status” is based on the total player base on a server and the actual amount of people online. So at odd times it does drop (e.g. middle of the night). however. It is the unofficial oceanic server, so it has a firm NA-playerbase too. the result is that there are no real unofficial times.

My advice is to choose another server. It only matter for World vs World and there are even some signs things are going to chance there. In all other formats (PvE and sPvP) you can play with your friends anyways. Get some gems to transfer and whenever you see it drop, pay for it.

There is no character slot… mentioned in the OP.

There is no beta client or anything. The entire expansion (as far as it is accesable) is allready in the game as it is. To provide access, the people who got access to the beta have an extra character slot labelled beta. It is all the way to the right of your current characters and it is empty. If you don’t have that slot, you don’t have access and something went wrong. You can contact support (there are more who had or have issues). looking at the thread (here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Beta-Email/first#post5097878 ) the issue is not resolved for them and I am afraid they will not be able to do it for the other tow slots today. I think the night-day cycle felt a bit wierd indeed. the night can get a bit more events and stuff going on. Although it was usefull to explore the place a bit better.

My personal feedback.
All in all, the vertical element of the map is awesome. I do think that it is a bit too much. Specially the lack of a horizon means that often you don’t even know if you are going up and down. Maybe add a vertical spirit level meter to the game (that can be turned off) to help fix this. It doesn’t have to be big, just something small on the side.

The revenant has great potential. It is a bit wierd being dropped in it at a level 80 map with no experience with the class at all. Although I really like the idea of swapping your utility skills, I do miss the ability to go ranged (played mostly mace/axe). I would suggest to make the utility skills, atleast for one legendary, a bit more focussed on ranged. This so you have an option to go ranged, independant of the weapon you choose.

As for the ambient sounds…
I really really love them….but some of them are a bit too mechanical. I’ll explain this with a real life situation. I used to have a doorbell that had the same sound as a buzzer in a tv show in my country. So every time I watched that show, I used to have a pavlov reaction to go to the door to see who’s there. With the ambient sounds it is a bit the same. It sounds too digital and too loud all the time so you are asking if it something in your home or elsewhere. Specially when you got the headset on. So I really advice to turn them down a bit.

inspecting and dueling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mercury ranique.2170

It has been discussed and the majority is against it.
I’ll go over my personal arguments.

Inspecting: It causes what I call speudo-elitism. I create my own guardian build. It is pretty much standard dps-zerker build. But in PUG’s (pick up groups) I like it to have a lil bit of a healing-punch to it (I’m bout 85 % pure zerker and 15% is put in healing). Just cause some pug’s. need it.
Some people are so concerned with any loss of “efficiency”. that they critise me for not running 100% zerker. Personally I prefer getting through the dungeon once I started, even if the group is meh. the time needed to find a new group is just not worth it.
I’m happy to ping my gear, if it is asked for the right purpose and right reasons. with inspecting you just got get kicked without conversation bout the reasons.

Dueling: In the game that I played that had this, it was often so badly misused that even the option to turn it off was not enough to have some children chase you half way through a map calling you terrible things for just not dueling them. I got nothing against dueling itself, but I know not everyone can handle the option responsable. If there where some clear rules bout and if support had the time and means to make sure the rules are upheld, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. As this is not the case, I’m against it.

Claw island didn’t get destroyed and remains intact. I actually think that it will loose functionality. Zaithan shown that LA is good enough defended against attacks from the sea, even if the island is fallen. Scarlet shown that the new technology of airships is the vulnarabillity. As claw island is only functional for protection against attacks from sea, it will likely become redundant when the new defenses are ready.

I found the place most toxic people gather

mercury ranique.2170

Just a heads up – the heart you’re mentioning has crows, not ravens. And the crows give little progress to the heart’s completion. The rats, which have green names and are thus not affected by the Maize Balm, are required as well. Heck, the rats can’t even be killed by weapons, you have to press F to ‘Exterminate’ them. Maize Balm doesn’t affect green named friendlies (source: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Throw_Maize_Balm), so it’s in your best interest to avoid the crows and go after the rats instead to avoid knocking heads.

OT: It’s wrong in any part of the game to whisper things like the OP mentioned to anybody for any reason. Screenshot the offense, block the person/people and report them accordingly. Be aware, though, that falsely reporting people or misusing the report function will cause your account to be actioned instead.

I agree. I think this is very simular to the queensdale train.
If the MB-farmers would PM something like:

“Hey mate. I think you are trying to do the heart. We actually farming here and need those crows alive for it. You can do the heart much quicker by pressing f next to rats. then it doesn’t interfere with our farm either. So what bout helping us and keep those crows alive?? thanks a lot!”

If someone still persist in killing the crows…well it is a free world. So let them!
It is the toxic behaviour that makes it wrong. Not the request behind it.

As for those saying they are going to whiteknight over there…You agreed to the code of conduct.
"
While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game.
"
So by going there with the purpose to cause distress to people playing and enjoying the game (by farming elementals), you are the ones in violation of the code of conduct yourself. (just as those farmers are in violation when they resort to hate speech).

The codewords here are live and let live.
The toxic chat has been reported and I’m certain that support will deal with this swift and apropiate.

Will I need the expansion to play GW2?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

sounds like pay to win.
When the expansion comes out, I’m going to look around at new MMOs made in the last few years.

Please do AND tell if you find any MMO that is less pay to win then GW2
Also you might want to reconsider the term pay to win.

GW2 is buy to play. That means that if you want to play certain content, you have to buy it. That has nothing to do with pay to win.

GW2 doesn’t charge monthly fees, it doesn’t put items in the cashstore that you need to buy to be any good in the game (and you can actually get everything in the cashstore without spending any money at all). The game releases most content updates totally for free. They only charge you for the core game and expansions. If you choose not to buy the expansion then you will have some disadvantages, but only in PvP formats (e.g. noet having access to specialisations). And obviously you can’t play the content in the expansionpack

That is by far the least pay to win option on the market.

obviously, if you don’t buy something, you can’t play, so then you also can’t win.

It is ridiculous and unrespectful for them to expect this much loyalty from them when they say “soon” each time they announce something.

I think many a player would LOVE it for them to announce something when they actually found a release date…

They have always ben very clear bout the release date. When it is ready.

So many games make commitments early on and then have to break them or rush a release thats full of bugs and stuff.

Many players actually wanted them to say more bout the “secret” project they where working on for months. So they finally are sharing that kind of info. For the rest. They release it when it is ready. giving us a date would either mean that they are going to break the promise, or have to put it further in the future then needed.

Overheating GPU

Just to be certain…Your sure it is the GPU overheating?Did you check by hand (if the pc shuts down cause of it, it should be notable by getting putting your hand against the case where the GPU’s are

By reving up I assume you mean taking up all resources on the GPU??

If thats the case I suspect something is causing a loop that the GPU is trying to process. (so basicly keeping the gpu busy for no reason at all).

This can be caused by any of the programs responsable for the input (directx, GW2, drivers).

So try updating to the latest directX (and if you have the latest, uninstall and reinstall). Reinstall the drivers.
Reinstall GW2, download a new dat-file (you can try if a reinstall is enough, if that isn’t the case, delete the dat file and download a new one)
Install not the latest drivers, but an older version.

It is a US federal holiday today, Memorial Day. However, private businesses almost all continue business as normal today (and retailers have huge sales so you know they’re working!).

You are absolutly right! I actually checked wikipedia and saw memorial day in May, but never realised that it happened to be on the same day as Pentecost this year, nor looked at the date.

And ye. What you say bout private businesses is what I mean bout less strict labor laws. Atleast in my country (and in most european country’s), a company that stays open has to pay the people who are working as if it is a sunday. This often means double loancosts that day.

anyways…. Someone at Arenanet merged this threat to the one IC linked, so someone is at work at HQ :P!

Arenanet devs: instead of solving this issue locally, maybe change the way vial of maize balm works. The idea was fun and nice, but sadly some part of the community can’t handle this in a responsable way.

Maybe, if this is really needed for economic purposes (which I doubt), put some ambients inside the home instances, and make it only work there.

Actually the balm doesn’t need nerfing.. much simpler to just reduce the amount of ambients that cluster and change their respawn rates to say 5mins.
If they want to nerf the balm fine, maybe only allow ToT bags to drop for the player throwing the maize balm.

The other place that the corn muppets like to claim and abuse others at is the little hut behind the beholder spawn in Queensdale again just cull the ambients back a bit.

The thing is that ambients are all over the world, so you need to cull a lot to prevent them from simply moving to the next spot.

Also, some ambients are a vital part of the game. They contribute to the ambience. culling them back would change that. And for what? some people misusing an option that is supposed to be a fun gag. I think that in this situation there is lil reason for compromising with those that ruined the gag in the first place.

The point is, since Anet doesnt seem to like farming like this (RIP queensdale train) they should do something about it since new people who go there will probably get verbaly abused by the people there. It is like Queensdale all over again where people where flaming if a champ died earlier before everyone got there.

It’s not the farming, but the behaviour of both sides. I remember in Queensdale not only the people flaming if a boss got killed, but also people deliberatly killing bosses with the soul purpose of destroying the train. Personally I was always fine with people killing a champ. It is a newbe map and those things happen. But if people do it, just to annoy that is just as bad.

This group of people got actually haunted out of rata sum allready by a fix.
my advice:
- Do not go into debate
- /report players for verbal abuse ingame
- make screenshots and sent in a support ticket
- Do your heart in anyway you want to do it, ignore them. Once done, move along. Some tips: if you put yourself on offline, you can’t get pm’s. If you also disable map and local chat, all they can do is sent emails. Misusing that system for flaming purposes will only get them banned quicker.

Thing is…this is a forum.
Let’s assume the world is simple and devided into two types of people.
1: those who are happy with the game.
2: those who are unhappy with the game.

Let’s try to place us in the head of the first type of person. What would you do?? I know what I would do, being happy with the game. I would be playing it.

Now lets step into the head of the second type of person. I would want to do something bout my grieve and find a way to let Arenanet know. So they go to the forum and write it down.

As only the second type of people come here, the overall tone can be a bit negative. As we tend to be herd animals, this is even increased a lot cause people are copying eachothers behaviour.

However…if you peel all that away, you still see people unhappy. I think it is good for arenanet to know the reasons behind that.

I do wish though that more people would take the adult approach and follow the simple rules of giving feedback.

So instead of didging your complaints with some snappy unimaginary insults or unimpressive threats to leave the game, be constructive. Compliment them on what they do good and advice them how they could do better.

That way of communicating is not just more polite. It is also much easier to work with.

Let’s compare two ways of expressing a grief:

1: The whole legendary grind is ridiculious. This is just crappy game design.
If Arenanet takes this serious, the solution is easy. Remove the entire legendary tier from the game.

2: I really love the way the legendary weapons look and work, but I truly think it is too hard to get a precursor. I whish there was an easier way to get one.

This not only tells more precise what you would dislike, but also what you like. This means that Arenanet has a lot more info. So isntead of removing the entire legendary system from the game, they can go ahead with changing the way you get a precursor.

tl;dr: people do complain with reasons, but the way it is expressed is not always in the most functional way.

The info bout this skill is from the weekly video’s. Before each and everyone it is said that numbers are not set in stone and are very likely to change before release. So it is better to see the numbers as a placeholder, as anything to draw conclusions from.

the way skilldesign at GW2 (and most games) work is that the skill is designed (how does it function) and when all skills are designed they will test them and compare them to balance them. As this fase is not finished yet, the numbers say nothing, only the way the skill works.

Is every profession really viable?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

This game is truly more balanced then most games out there. But as there is diversity between classes, there is also never a perfect balance.

Many of the anti-Ranger myths are outdated nowadays. It takes a lot of time till people see that the ranger overhaul did much good for the class. They deal very decent dps. The bad sides bout them is that they don’t bring anything special. the dps itself is more or less on par with e.g. warrior or ele, but they don’t stack might to the party as well, making them not as much wanted for organised group content as the warrior and ele.

The same goes for necro, but to a bit further extend. They are build a lot round self-survivability. As this is never a big issue in this game, it is not a feature looked on by many.

This is all nitbitting in the margin though. Besides dungeon speed runners, there are not many LFG’s refusing to play with a ranger or a necromancer just based on these minor differences. The ones that does, ar in my opinion wannabe elitists, who don’t understand that the class is only a small factor to the time you complete things.

Silver, Gold, and Platinum speculation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

Why platinum??
It was never mentioned to be needed prior to the time the info was deleted. It was copper, silver and gold. Real life electrum is an alloy of gold and silver, with rtraces of copper. So not a word bout platinum.

Also…the info is extremely old. It has been over a year since this info was available and it is more likely to have changed.

I also think that if this item is introduced, it will most be centered around ascended jewelry crafting. As a typical jewel exist from the metal and the gemstone, I expect that the ascended raw gemstone is much harder to get.

The reason why clothing materials are so expensive is cause they are needed for all armortypes (heavy, medium, light) for the insignia’s. In jewelry, the stats come from the gemstone, not the metal. So in line with the situation with the clothing materials, that is why I expect the ascended gemstones to be the hard thing to get.

Guild Wars ? Ummm No guild fighting here?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

The name guildwars comes from an historical event in the lore called the guild wars. It has nothing to do with guilds fighting other guilds.

The first game was originally developped with the emphasis on PvP (where GvG was just a very minor portion off). Allready before launch it was chosen to be more focussed on both PvE and PvP and the PvE element grew even bigger.

In GW2, this line was continued, while PvP is an important part of the game, the game focusses more on the PvE part. the name, as it never had anything to do with PvP, however sticked around.

If you want to argue that PvP should get more attention, please do. But also pls bring good and strong arguments. The name of the game is not a strong argument.

hole in the lore of LA rebuilding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mercury ranique.2170

@mercury : You are assuming I am talking about every plotlines in game, but no. I am talking only on the main storyline focused on the “Living story”. Lions arch destruction and rebuilding is very tied with living story over all =P

Then you missed my point, that there isn’t a physical place in the game currently “frozen” between lS S2 and HoT. All maps are in different points in time. So is Lion’s Arch. the main point I’m making is that the destruction of Lion’s Arch itself is actually set in a solid timeframe, while the rest of the world is not. The reason is that the destruction is not repeatable. So it is actually the only thing that is always in the past (atleast untill they release season one as repeatable content, as they once said they would do).

So while the destruction is firmly in the past, LA itself is not set in a firm timeframe and the city itself exist in different moments in time at the same time.

My problem with Mystic Toilet Recipes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I think a mistake you make is thinking bout the forge as a crafting station where the item is created. The text is:

“Zomoros rewarded you with….”

So it is not a trade or crafting something, but it is much more like an altar where you offer to the supreme being (Zomoros in this case) and if it pleases him he gives something in return. Some offerings are not acepted, some offering result in a random gift (RNG-based) and some offering result in a garanteed reward (the so called recipes). But it is not that Zomoros is making Lyss out of the ingredients you put in. He just has it and reward it as a thank you for the gift.

So from a lore perspective, it is perfectly explainable and ok.

that leaves the actual price. On a forum of a different game I had a talk just today bout exclusivity and pricing and I repeat what I said there.

I really like the Maserati GranCabrio. But as it costs 150000 euro it is really not worth the price.

People desire exclusive items cause it make them exclusive. That means that to be exclusive, it should not be easy to get.

Even if you would be right and the pricing is too steep…how do you think that the current owners of Lyss will react if it is reduced strongly?

hole in the lore of LA rebuilding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

It gets even more complicated then this.

All maps are in a certain timeframe. Queensdale is frozen in time right after the hero of shaemoor stopped the Champion Modniir High Sage and saved the town.

Cursed shore is frozen in time just when we start to attack the gates of Arah.

The Silverwastes is frozen in time just before the pact fleet sets off to the heart of the jungle.

As for LA. Technically it is frozen in time just bout the time where the pact was formed

You might wonder now how come the town is destroyed (or why mordremoth is attacking in the iron marches). The point is that there are two timelines needed.

1: the official timeline. These are the events as they are happening.
2: the personal timeline. (as the PC is experiencing it).

For example. My guardian has been here from day one and killed Zhaithan, then participated in all the living stories. She more or less followed the official timeline.

My ranger started just recently. He woke up when LA was allready destroyed. He forgedt the pact in a destroyed LA and though Zhaithan while mordremoth was allready awake. Now he has turned his attention to mordremoth and is experiencing the issue that waypoints are being affected by moremoths vines.

It is a consequence of a non-linear MMORPG. To facilitate the fact that not all players are playing content at the same time, and cause development cost time, you need to accept certain things and ignore them. That is also part of role playing.

HoTs Living World

mercury ranique.2170

To me I kinda hope that they will make it available to everyone, but wether or not you can play it depends if you have access to the area where it plays.

As an example I use GW1. In that game you have some kind of dailies: e.g. daily bounty (you also got daily missions and stuff like that, but for explaining I’ll stick to the bounty.
To get it you need to talk to a flag in a place everyone can reach. It offers a quest to kill an bosslike npc somewhere in the world. If it is in a place you don’t have access to, you can close the quest again, cause you can’t do it.

To me the living world season 3, would be like this. Some chapters should be in the jungle, and some elsewhere. depending on the story and a good balance. If it is in the jungle and you dont have the expansion…you can’t do it and have to skip that one. If it is in e.g. lion’s arch, then you can do it like anyone else.

This way it functions as a very good promotion for the expansion. If people like the parts they can do, they have more incentive to buy the expansion to do the rest as well.
