I like your enthousiasm, but to be honest, if you get so hyped bout unreleased datamined content you are better off not reading anything datamined.
There is stuff in the dat-file for over a year and it is still not released (e.g. the paper back helmet skins).
If I have to speculate bout the Canach backpack then it is likely to be a HoT item.
The reason is that in the teaser vid we got at the end of season 2, it showed him as a member of destiny’s orphans. So he is likely to play an important role in hoT and so, if it is a gemstore release, it makes more sense to release it then. But it can also be added as a drop or a story reward.

Hi,
This has been discussed a lot allready. Concensus is that it is not bout raids, or content at all. It is allready datamined that Ventari will be a revenant legend. So it is very likely a teaser for more info bout the revenant.

Swap a pair of say berserker boots, to soldier boots, there you allocated your own stats
This!
GW1 didn’t had attributes on the gear (except a attribute requirement on weapons). Why is this switched?? cause it is a totally different game. The fact that people are not mix ’n matching to get cumulative stats that are different then mainstream is cause people will go for the zerker gear. Why would we need to make the dps trend even stronger??
As long as people are not mix ’n matching there is definitly no need for this.

You can buy single chapters from the story journal.
press “H”
Go to the story journal
Select season two, and the appropiate chapter.
Now you can click a button to unlock it and it will ask you if you want to pay the amount of gems.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
1: no mounts pls. Specially non with a speedboost.
2: new map has a normal amount of waypoints. Keep in mind we only saw 40% of one layer. I imagine when the other layers are there too you also get vertical passage ways to switch between layers. This means that waypoints on the other layers are counting too.

Old news
It is clearly a slip of the tongue and Arenanet officials have reacted on reddit that it is no reason to draw conclusions. There is no set releasedate yet. So all we know is that a release in the summer is “on the table”

I wonder if it will be before or after Windows 10 launches. Or could ANet be holding off to make sure GW2 runs on Windows 10?
I don’t think that HoT will release before windows 10, although nothing is impossible. If they are currently aiming for a date in the summer, then it is likely in August (after the announcement, they also would want a decent pre-order window).
This got lil to do with windows 10. The game runs perfectly fine on the windows 10 technical preview. As Microsoft allready announced that they are not changing a lot but minor polishing to the technical preview as it is now, it is safe to assume that it will run on windows 10 just fine.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
The forum has always been somewhat negative toned. I don’t see any difference to be honest. It is only human behaviour to write down and complain what is bothering your, not bout what one like. So thats normal.
Also in game I haven’t seen a change in tone. Obviously there is always some rotten apple around, but I’ve not seen it increase at all.
I think you just had a bit of bad encounters,
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Maybe Arenanet just doesn’t want to make as much money as others. They sold a lot of copies at the initial release and have kept on selling steady since. They also sold a good amount of stuff through gem-sales.
Another trick Arenanet is doing is to limit datatraffic from the server to the client making servers less expensive.
So I’m pretty sure that Arenanet is making money and looking at the quarterly reports of ncsoft (Arenanets owner) it is actually one of thier bigger money makers. Keep in mind that GuildWars2 sales where a lot higher then GuildWars1. I think for Arenanet that came as a pleassant surprise too and that they aimed much more to a number closer to that of GW1 when they developped it.
Theory?
They launched GW2 as a hybrid B2P with a F2P model by relying mostly on cosmetic sales to sustain income while releasing smaller LS content. The mentality of limited gem items is to build hype to drive sales.
Though…
The model hasn’t worked well and they are reverting back to a expansion based model while limiting focus on cosmetics and LS. This also might be the reason they recently decided to scrap selling future armor skins and just do outfits.
At least thats my theory.
They always said they would release expansions. They have also been clean on the fact that they wanted to investigate to release it as releases simular to the living world releases. They have been experimenting a lot with the living world. And with limited success. Not financially dissasterious, but cause it just didn’t work as well. Season one was too temporary. Season 2 was too small and locked into separate parts.
The reason why they stopped releasing armor skins is obvious. An armor skin design is much more complicated then a skin AND they have to have a good amount of new skins for HoT.
They did not always say they would release expansions.
They said so in 2007 (or actually expansions or campaigns, difference being that a campaigns can be played stand alone and has levelling area’s).
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/the-best-things-in-life-are-free-interview?page=2
So they did say it then. Have repeated it multiple times afterwards and now are releasing an expansion.
Just the fact that they didn’t repeat it every week, doesn’t mean it wasn’t always the plan!

I think two important things are to note here.
1: people assume that inside Arenanet HQ there are important documents with exact release dates mentioned and everything set in stone. This is very unlikely. when they say that they don’t have a releasedate yet, it is cause they don’t have one yet.
2: This is a slip of the tongue.
Reality is that Arenanet really doesn’t have a set releasedate yet. The best they have right now is a railbook where they have an prognosed release date for when everything goes according to plan. For example. They might have a plan to have a release on the third anniversary cause they have good experiences with releasing on that date and cause it is (more or less) when they now expect it to be ready.
But for example the beta left some pretty solid feedback bout e.g. the day and night cycle and the lack of challenging content. This can lead to some alterations that can push the fictional internal releasedate forward. With other games you have seen how dissasterious it is to announce a date and later on have to postpone it.
So the best we can tell from this slip of the tongue that there is some founded specualtion that Arenanet is currently aiming for a releasedate somewhere in the summer. That is extremely far away compared to this threads title that it is coming this summer.
In other words. We know now that a release in the summer is “on the table”. We also all know what on the table means right
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I’m not sure if it is anything written there (assuming you are referring to the things in the band across his chest), but that centaur seems awesome.
By the text from the tweet it may be about the “Challenging content” mentioned before.
“Life can be painful, but do not fear the trials you will face. Hard ground makes stronger roots.”
So far all writings in GW1 and GW2 had a meaning. There are some things that have not been translated, but they never just scribble down some meaningless nonsens.
As said by others. The Quote is from Ventari. Ventari is going to be a revenant legend. So it is likely a teaser for more revenant reveals.

Personally, I think the system (with a year time) can get overcomplicated for the goal.
To solve this it would be better imo to have three things in place
1: increasing the amount of slots in an email so you send max 20 stacks at time. As farmers mostly transfer currency they have lil use of it.
2: upgrading the security flagging system to also look at items being sent around (using TP prices).
To explain the second. Currently if you sent an x amount of gold to another account, it is flagged as suspicious (the actual amount is obviously unknown) and security has a manual check to see if it is ok what is going on. afaik, currently the system doesn’t look at attached items. Ifd increasing the amount of attached items, I think it is important to change that. Just like gw2spidy can track the price of items, this system can do the same and mark a transaction as suspicious when the total worth of attachements (gold and items) goes over the set mark.
The result is that “normal” people have less issues with the supression system while the goldsellers are tackled better.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
In general all armor that does dps is better then armor that is protective. So offensive is better then defensive. Keep in mind for the rings that you can’t equip two rings of the exact same type. So it is actually better to get the zerker ring with offensive slot and the zerker ring with defensive slot.
You don’t need gear for pvp (or actually it doesn’t matter cause the stats are not used, you can easily equip a very low level basic gear there). So it is also a bad place to farm for gear for PvE and WvW. Dungeons is a great way and so is karma and gold.

Bout the latest teaser image: http://i.imgur.com/dWqzI0O.jpg
Anyone any clue bout what the text in the image is saying? I’ve tried translating with new and old krytan, but couldn’t tie a single character to a single letter.
With a bit of fantasy it could be a form of old ascalonian, but it doesn’t make sense from a lore perspective and I come with “ajuoll” (which doesn’t make sense either)
It could be the untranslated elonian language, but those letters are higher and I can’t seem to find a match.
Mursaat. Some of those letters look like mursaat runes and the one with the dots below it looks a lot like the mursaat ones with the dots above. We never translated it, so who knows that it actually showed upside down.
Opinions please :P

The breakbar is only on a limited amount of bosses. Looking at the Wyvern fight it depleted quickly anyways, without putting effort into it.
I like this as a gimmick, but nothing more. It is as difficult to go around as to put stand your ground on your bar (if you haven’t allready) as a guardian for the golem mark II. So minor tweaks to the skillbar might be needed (which can be done when getting ready for the fight, e.g. during the pre-event chain), but it won’t hurt the zerker meta at all.

After sending a couple messages off to my main, I get “Excessve Messaging” on the mail, and have to wait. Is it possible to have the excessive message trigger check to see if the accounts are linked? If the accounts are linked, I would think the reasons that excessive messaging would be suppressed would be moot.
Although the main reason would be moot, the side effect is that this block also is a hinderance for goldsellers.
To explain this let me explain a lil bit how gold sellers work.
1: they use accounts to farm
2: they use accounts to spam
3: they use accounts to sent out purchased gold on a website.
4: they use accounts to put farmed gold over several accounts to laundry them.
All of these accounts are stolen from players or created using stolen credit cards.
the purpose of the 4th type of accounts they use is to make it impossible for support to track down farmed gold to the actual account who is selling/buying gold. By taking away this excessive msg trigger for “linked” accounts or accounts that are set to be ok by users, you make it a lot easier for them to hide the track.

I’m not seeing this happen.
Webmoney is critisised for the need to use third party applications and not being transparant bout data tracking policy’s.
further.. The service’s HQ is in moscow. with current tensions between Russia and NATO it is unlikely that a US-company will start using a service that can potentially be taken over, controlled or monitored by the russian government.
Also: don’t start bout who is good or bad in this conflict. I don’t care. US-company’s bear the same risk as Russian companies and are not much better or worse. I’m only stating the fact that WebMoney is a Russian service and Anet is a US-company. the result is that with current tensions, it is not to be expected. Just like there are no official retailers for GW2 in Russia.

Heroic fantasy usually makes me laugh. In Skyrim, though I never had a magic spell or used magic, I was still able to become leader of the magicians guild. lol
How? you have to use magic to get in to the mages college, dont you? and a few of the quests i swear require magic xD
You have to use a shout, but not a spell. I didn’t put points into any magic.
Wait, what? To get inside, you’ll need to either use Firebolt, Conjure Flame Atronach, Magelight or something similar. It’s not hard, since Faralda can sell the spells to you at the entrance, but you definitely had to use magic to get in. You also had to use a ward shortly after getting in.
If you go to the college after the quest Dragon Rising, you can tell her that you are dragonborn and then she will let you in if you demonstrate your Thu’um. With tzhe correct perk unlocked you can also persuade her to let you in. The ward spell has to be used, but it is given to you for free.

you only unlocked the first track of the gliding mastery. The 5th one is to deploy your wings more frequently (which is the reason why it fails sometimes now).
The first track is easy (one mastery point and 254k experience). The second tier is allready steeper (1 masterypoint but 1012k experience). So bout 4 times as much. I assume that the last and 6th tier will require atleast 10 million experience (and it is allready known it requires 10 heropoints).

Missing Closed Beta Invitation Compensation
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Let’s split some issues:
Firstly, you opened a ticket for a good reason and didn’t get a reply. I want you to read this thread carefully: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Delayed-or-No-Ticket-Reply-Read-This
Specially the part bout spamfolders and stuff like that.
If you really didn’t get a reply saying anything more then “we are investigating this” (also read below what the answer should be).
If you really didn’t get a reply then you want to put up your ticketnumber for review here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Tickets-for-Review-3-days-older-1
The answer you should get is that your name is put on a list that is provided tot the devs. The ticket is then closed without any compensation.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Portal-Stone-and-No-Slot/page/2
At the moment there is no official word bout compensation. I think it is outragious you even asked for a legendary chest. You should be ashamedfor that!!
Proper compensation (if any is given!) should be access to a beta event in the future. nothing more or less!

First point, I mean’t Masteries and the auto correct put it to Mysteries. (Auto correct can be a pain.)
Don’t worry, I never really noticed it and it was mostly the first line that I was reacting too. I’m always a bit cautious to trim too much in a quote, cause it can pull stuff out of context. Thats why I quoted the entire paragraph.
Third, The point I meant though was, It would of done more to show off what the Mastery system does for the player base if in this one beta instance we had it all unlocked to us rather than having to grind for it. It gives us a goal to work for when the game actually comes out because we won’t have these masteries right off so we would try to get them to become better and see if it’s worth getting them. Instead the beta, directed us to the main events but I mean for some they didn’t want that. They wanted to explore this new area, and having at least one event that deviates from the main story would of really helped and who know it could of been that “Cool” moment for them
(I had the unfortunate side thing that the I could never fight the Wyvern since that event bugged on me so I didn’t get to experience it)
The issue with this is that it is a misconception to think that the beta is there to showcase the content for us. Although that is a secondary goal, the primary goal is to test things. And as we are the labrats, we are not told what the testing objectives are. It might very well be that they want us to be able to get the first mastery unlocked within two hours (something that sounds reasonable to me) and they wanted to test how many of us would make that mark.
And as pointed out before, we also don’t know why we didnt get access to the rest of the map. It might be that they wanted to test the event part of the map, cause it is hard to test it large scale events with just the Q&A team. So while it is perfectly ok to express fears based on the direction shown in the beta, also don’t use it to judge it and keep an eye out for all possibility’s. As said, the main purpose of the beta is not to showcase the content, so drawing conclusions bout it is dangerous as well

although I agree that the sounds of miniatures can sometimes be somewhat annoying, in no way it is game breaking to me, let alone something I would write such a cynical article bout. I only really experience this in towns, e.g. near the bank. When im there, it is msotly for idle purposes. I got a mute button on my keyboard and the game is muted with a single keystroke. your text here too 711 characters. So that means you could have muted and unmuted the game 355 times. A much more effective way to prevent getting annoyed

I leaded more then enough farm zergs on any map that I can tell you for sure that on every map a zerg farms the people that want “progress” are a minority of 2-5 usually.
I know that for sure because when I was leading at coiled watch we usually entered a new map and then got all people on this map through lfg tool. Problem is and was if there joined ~5 people before a farm starts or after the farm happend a while. But these people can join other megaserver instances.
I don’t understand why people have problems joining non organized megaserver maps. I’m on EU. For another instance I just join as a guest one full french, or german, or spain, or english server and it is 100% everytime another megaserver map. I know that works on AE too.
What the “blocking progress” people never understand is, that the farming zergs used time and effort to get a large amount of people with the same goal (farming) on that spot. Even while queensdale farm, usually you only joined these farm maps if you joined with lfg tool. Of course it happend that some single player joined them by accident, but again these can join another map easier then a 150 people zerg.
What I agree on 100% is that the attacking other people is totally wrong. From my experience with farming 1.000+ hours at these zergs the aggressive attacks mostly start through trolls or lonely single players that want everyone else to play for them.
Of course most of the times it takes only 3-4 sentences and then the farming zerg (majority with 100+ people) flame these individuals back.
I don’t like that and I have never flamed anyone who just asked. But at times when we farmed ~1h without problems and then joins 1 selfish player who disturbs everyone and annoys everyone, well at these cases I can’t complain about flaming them.So yea the big problem are selfish people which want to force others to play their style, but in my opionion that happens mostly through the minority and I think that is the point where anet has to change something ingame. Not by nerfing one farmspot after another.
That’s the thing, you’re EU. NA doesn’t have any designated language servers. So those of us on NA servers can’t switch to a dedicated non-English server to maybe get onto a different shard. And if we can’t play during NA primetime, there may not be more than one shard available.
The problem isn’t the majority of farmers or the majority of non-farmers. The problem is the minority farmers and minority non-farmers that like to grief and troll the other group.
The farmers that yell at other players for killing the champ out of order or rallying enough non-farmers to complete an event. The non-farmers that specifically kill champs out of order JUST to disrupt the train or group together to complete the event just to make the farmers mad.
Coiled watch farm, most farmers I’d imagine if the non-farmers went: “Hey, I need the event to complete to progress my Living Story, could please we complete the event?” the farmers would have no problem letting it succeed.
And perception is reality. As soon as a farm gets perceived as toxic, then ANet pretty much has no choice but to change it to change the perception.
Actually, joining a different language server doesn’t change a lot. The game favours you getting on a shard with people from the same server you guest too (language has nothing to do with that). Another rule is that they favour you to get on the same shard as people with the same language setting rule as you (that rule is turned of on NA). So guesting on a different server with another designated language, but without actually changing the language of the client (and that also means rebooting and downloading the language files, which takes some time) actually makes the chance smaller to get on a different shard (compared to when you go to a same language shard). If Bomber has experienced differently, he/she was just lucky. So the situation is no different then on the NA servers. While guesting gives a chance on getting on a different shard, it is no garantee.

Guards are not squishy at all, but it does require some more active self support. If done correctly you are more tankier then most without having to sacrifice not much dps.
Warriors are dps monsters. They are easy to play, purely based on dps and are basically “press 1 to win”. Allthough: DPS = verstality, I find it a boring class.
Keep in mind that in PvP builds are often switched. Gear is for free in sPvP and changing skills and traits is for free (and all are unlocked at level 2). So most people use a specialised sPvP build.
I also believe strongly in a separate build for WvW. It takes not much time to set it up (and cause I prefer playing ele there myself, I just got a dedicated WvW ele, just cause I’m lazy and don’t want to switch). The reason is that there is only one succesfull buildtype for PvE, while that is not optimal for WvW.
PvE build is zerker. The reason is very simple. The game doesn’t tanks or healers. although DoT is good, manipulating it through gear is a bad move cause of the way the DoT cap works. So it is a matter of staying alive and dealing max dps. As you can stay alive in all circumstances with a zerkerbuild and cause that deals the most dps, that is the way to go in PvE.
In WvW it depends a lot more on your class, the role you play and the place in the zerk you take. Even race is a factor here (imagine two warriors. One is a charr, the other is an Asura. Due to the size, the charr will likely get more agro from the other zerk and so it is more beneficial to act as a tank-like char® for your zerk. While the Asura is easier ignored due to the small size and is more suited for dps.)
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
“Has this changed? Are condition damage dealers viable in high end PvE settings?”
Nope. conditions remain as they are.
“Is there more variety at end game? Is there an end game at all?”
I’m a bit allergic to the mususe of the term endgame content.
The term comes from more traditional mmo’s to indicate the difference between the levelling game and the content you play when you are max level. the reason is that you outgrow maps and content while you level. As this is not the case in GW2 due the the smart downscaling system, all content is endgame.
the reason I’m allergic is that those games require a different approach. there you are pushed to rush to max level cause thats where the “good” stuff is. In GW2 the content that is designed for just max level is nothing better or worse then the content for lower levels. it is not harder or easier to kill the shadow behemoth then it is to kill the shatterer. I think it is safe to say that among the “normal” world bosses, the fire elementalist is still the one with the highest deathrate, even if it is in a startermap.
So the term endgame is inapropiate and you didn’t miss endgame content. You missed challenging content (and challenging is subjective to your opinion)
I’m saying this cause lack of endgame is often seen as a fact (that is even misleading and false) while saying the game lacks challenging content is much more appropiate and is seen for what it is: an opinion.
So to answer the correct question: is there more challenging content?
The big changes can be expected with Heart of Thorns, but they did add two level 80 maps in the last year. Though it is little and still a bit repetitive, it is fairly nice to try it out and have a nice new experience. Specially the Silver Wastes are fun and nice to play in (you might want to use the lfg to get into a map that is saying something like "40% done).
But more important. there is no monthly fee. your account is still here right? so why not reinstall the game (if needed at all) and try it out! You payed for it, so it is now for free!

Weren’t we supposed to spend hero points to unlock them or am i mixing this up with skills?
This is correct. It’s one of the few very known things about what’s coming, in fact.
Thanks for clearing this up. Must have missed this part. Looking at the wiki, the heropoints replace skillpoints and can be used both for skills and traits.
I suspect that existing characters will get one of the following two things.
Option A: unlocked traits will stay unlocked. This gives an issue with conversion, but like the conversion from traitsystem 1 to the current one, they can do it simply that all existing characters gets all traits.
Option B: existing skills and traits get locked again, but you get the amount of skillpoints spend on them back in the form of heropoints.
In any case, I don’t see a refund of the gold happening.

I’m on two boats here.
The first is that the entire design of events is that it is just as much freedom to make it fail as it is freedom to make it succesfull. So nobody should be forced to finish it if they don’t want too.
The second however is that these situations very often lead to verbal abuse. The fact that this happens makes it an issue. Cause making an event succeed is more in line in what people expect to be “normal” behaviour, that is the wayt to fix it if it leads to verbal abuse.
This event is an excellent example where the difference in goals leads to verbal abuse and griefing. That means that in this case, the event should be altered to make succesfully finishing it more worthwhile.
But another example that is going (reasonable) well nowadays is Coiled Watch.
Not completing the event makes it spawn more champions, so people try to farm it. On normal days this leads to limited issues. Eventually it does happen that the event is finished, but the chain resets reasonable quick anyways, so people don’t make a fuss bout it. On days that it is frostgorge sound event completionist, the farmers take their loss and skip that day of farming. In my experience, there was controverse here at the start, but now it cooled down and settled down in a good status quo.
Another example where it goes well is The Silver Wastes. Cause the chain is the only big thing happening in the map, the two different approaches to farm this map are very well reflected in the LFG-tool and works reasonable well.
I always prefer that we solve this as a community then get Anet fix this for us as a big brother.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
The fact remains that the only way to get tickets is via chests. Putting value on other items in the chest does not change the fact x amount of chests must be opened to acquire enough tickets to purchase a bl claim ticket weapon.
It is also worth pointing out that a skin in a MMO is a completely different beast compared to a skin in a very controlled and limited game.
That is why i compared them based on work done, which is the only thing comparable.
My suggestion to them is to make black lion tickets purchasable with gems. 1 ticket would go for somewhere between $5-10. If all weapons are reduced to 1 ticket then i think $10-15 is reasonable. However $25 is too much for a weapon skin.
Tickets have zero value. the weapon skins do. The error in your thinking is that you put value on a half finished product. The product is weapon skins and you can buy it from others. Why do they sell it?? Cause they opened boxes and don’t want them for themselfes. That effect only devaluates the price of them. It actually devaluates them to the price of 10 USD, which is the price thats needed to get the gold to buy the skin on the TP.
The fact that the skins are sold for less then the price needed to get them out of a box, means that it is actually to low priced.. people sell them for a loss cause they are not that interesting.
The whole reasons these skins exist is cause a part of the gamers wants to be unique. They want to have a character and looks that nobody else has. They are willing to pay for uniqueness.
Why do people do that?? Well why do people drive a ferrari? To be honest, the only reason I can think of is to brag. The car has absolutly no additional benefits. You can reach the speed limit a lil bit faster and the quality of the materials is somewhat better, but in no way it justifies the price. It is cause it turns heads. It causes people to want one too and you (as the owner) knows that most people can’t have it.
So the question is…do you react to the bragging with envy or like me, with raising my shoulders and moving along?

My point is on the matter is you shouldn’t feel like your doing a event, It should feel like your doing this event because it’s an adventure and your hero is there to go and help (Or not help) If you giving everyone the chance to use most of the mysteries right off the bat in this one scenario you can learn more than making your fans farm for it waste their beta time getting it and when they do get it they didn’t get a chance too till later or never because beta’s over.
I trimmed your quote down to what is in my opinion the essence of what you said.
The issue is immersion. This is an MMORPG. The RPG requires you to loose touch with your physical you and immerse you in the virtual you (that is the actual role playing). This means that you need to act beyond game mechanics.
Now keep in mind that you can never take away all barriers blocking immersion. You are still watching a screen. You still are operating your virtual you with your hands. Those barriers are uncapable of being torn down (maybe with the oculus rift one day, but let’s not get there yet).
Another thing blocking it is often forgotten in these kind of discussions. It is your capacity to imagine. This is not a solid point. It differs from person to person, but for a person also from game to game and from situation to situation.
it is very easy to say that a lack of immersion is the fault of the devs (specially the writers). But often it has other reasons. If you start to develop a dislike for the game in general (e.g. cause you start to get worn out cause of not enough refreshing content), this can damage your capacity to imagine and therefor the immersion severely.
A last thing to add to the equasion is how much a lack of immersion matters. Why does one play a game. It is a known fact that MMORPG’s have a bigger lack of immersion then one player RPG’s (compare the elder scrolls online with skyrim for example, same world, same devs, but a huge difference in immersion. one is a MMO and the other a regular RPG). The main reason for this is, I believe, that it is less important to the players. To me, when playing, I like to be with friends, on TS, drink a beer and do stuff in the game while having a good time. It is my experience that this goes for most guilds.
A proper offline RPG is a theater where you go to a play. you obvious can have a drink, but the core is to experience the play itself. An MMO-RPG is more like a pub where on the background the TV is running the match of the day. It is there and it is important, but the meeting others and having fun is much more important.
So are you right that the game needs more immersion? yes!
But you also have to keep in mind that for most people, the lack of it, is not game breaking.

actually, if you look back on the historical droprate and assume the droprate on the tickets haven’t changed, it is a 2% change to get a ticket and a 20% change for a scrap to drop. The current research cycle has not enough input to deduct that droprate has been changed.
so the change on getting a ticket is 2/100. So on average, for each ticket you will need to open 50 boxes.
So the value of 1 ticket (following this calculation) would be 52,50 USD.
However, you are miscalculating one thing here. The chests also drops a lot of other goods. They might be of no value for you, but they do represent value too. Wether it is a unique miniature, or a booster.
So calculating the value this way is just not right.
A better method is to look at the TP price and calculate the price that way.
looking at the 5 ticket weapons, they go for 225 gold max
the 1 ticket weapons go for 95g max. So the newer 1 ticket weapons have the best bucks.
Currently 1 gold cost 0.11 USD to buy. This means that the more popular one ticket weapon will cost you 10,45 USD
How can this be such a difference. That is exactly why your method of calculating is frauded. The difference exist cause people obviously open boxes with keys they have farmed and sell the weaponskins instead of keeping them for themselfes. The reason can only be that they are not interested in them and even are willing to sell them far below the price you would expect based on gems. The main reason must be that you do get other things out of the boxes that represent value too. This devaluates your calculation.

Essentially grinding for events for Mastery tracks
"
I’m seeing signs that this is just a product of the choices made for this closed beta. If you went close to the west, near the path that leads deeper into the map (closed off by vines during the beta), the event notification (nightfall in xx minutes) dissapppeared. So while the playable area was leaning heavily towards events, I’m hopefull that the rest is not. This was only a part of the map, and only one layer.
I personally had lil issues with the glider. It worked when I wanted/needed it and stopped working when I didn’t want it. But I did hear more people complain. I think it would be good if Arenanet would test this some more and see if it is a matter of practise (which is fine) or really need to be more fluid.

afaik, they never said that the new unlocking system is for free. They said that the current system of unlocking traits will be replaced by a new, easier system. but (if I didn’t miss anything), they only showed level 80 characters with all traits unlocked so far. So how you actually unlock them is unknown.
In the first unlocking system, it was for free for all existing characters. So unlocking them now, would mean that you don’t have to unlock them again. Wether or not unlocking them now is going to be cheaper or not is unknown. If it is chaper, I don’t expect a refund cause the price is fully optional right now.

Cause you don’t port just before it lands. The burst doesn’t have any casting time. The animation is there to show you what happens, but the damage is done as soon as the animations started (the moment the warrior hits the skill).
you are not supposed to be able to counter everything, specially not a burst that is charged over time and is a vital element of a class mechanic. That is the same why it is nearly impossible to break a thiefs cloack. Warriors (and other classes) jsut have to wait till you have to pop out and show yourself. With an easy counter, it would ruin the stealth mechanic.

Where is promised challenging HOT content?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
It’s astonishing how afraid people are from raids, giving every sort of excuse: it will steal resources from doing other content, it will diminish player base, it will create elitism, it doesn’t fit the game because philosophy is casual-friendly (wtf?), we have “great” world bosses which are difficult already (w.t.f.?), it will require too much time spent to complete, just a minority is asking for it, it is not “needed”, etc. Seriously? Is it that hard to understand that it’s OPTIONAL? You don’t have to do? I don’t sPvP, I’m not forced to do it, and yet they’re constantly spending resources on that to make it more attractive, if you compare to PvE and WvW there aren’t as many players playing it, and yet they keep on refining it because they believe in e-sport and that game mode. For Jesus Christ’s sake, just STOP thinking the world revolves around yourselves and be a little less egoistics.
In most games raids are NOT optional. That is also the reason why they have a bad name. Raids are the core of the endless geargrind in those games and not participating in it will mean you will not be the very best (which is actually something important in GW2). Just for that reason alone I don’t think that GW2 ever should have “raids”. It is in my opinion perfectly ok to have raid like content and there is raid like content. You got the guild missions, including the world bosses. You got the 5 people story instances challenges (for achievement points), and you got the dungeons (including fractals) The question is why people are not sattisfied with it.
1: lack of difficulty.
2: lack of rewards.
3: a bit of both.
To explain why. The lack of rewards is to actually prevent the endless geargrind. by adding good rewards to them, you are making them more required to do and make them loose what you call, optional content. The lack of difficulty is cause people just don’t do hard content when the reward is slacking.
Even in the rare cases when challenging content is released (not raid btw) like Liarda, the event gets nerfed cause people cry that they can’t do it and it is too hard compared to the reward.
Now what is my opinion. Guild Wars 2 is in my opinion one of the only real MMORPG’s. a game like e.g. World of Warcraft (known for it’s Raids) is an MMO, but not an RPG. It actually is made too hard and to grindy to be it.
People should do stuff, not to brag bout pixelated art to others, but for the fun of roleplaying. That is what people have against raids. it destroys the RPG in MMORPG.

I’ve never joined a “no skipping” group, I prefer casual groups that are skipping, cause too many trashmobs are boring and there is a big field between speedrun and no skipping.
The issue I got with speedruns is that it is optimised and too easy. I actually like it when it gets a bit messy. However, killing all trashmobs is boring too. So my interest is inbetween.
Having said that. not reading happens a lot. I remember a group saying "Casual learning group looking for 2 more (lvl 80 only). So I joined, and found 2 lowbe’s (lvl 40-ish, it was AC) and a lvl 80. after that 6 people joined and left, cause they where expecting only lvl 80’s in the group. The LFG was clear bout it being a casual learning group and the level 80 requirement was only to not turn the average too low
The worse part however bout the LFG is how different people behave in PUG’s then in Guild groups.
I’ve litterally seen people being a total kitten in PUG’s being not helpfull at all, while in a guild group they are always happy to help out and take the time for newbe’s to learn.

As said in other threads. We only saw a small portion of the new map (40% of one of the three layers, so it only shows 15% max).
Also keep in mind there is more to the other elements like the challenges, lore and story instances. So from that perspective I would not say it is an event map only.
If you went to the west and approached the wall of vines blocking access to the rest of the map, the event notification bout the day/night cycle went away. So as I see it, the day/night cycle meta event chain, only plays in that 15% of the map. Once you get to the other layers or when you go to the west, other stuff we don’t know bout is going on (or atleast that is what I imagine and hope).
As for renown hearts. I personally find them the most boring element of exploration. They where added to the game originally cause from testing it shows people where missing something, but the effect is that a need was forefilled with a very boring element.
I personally prefer exploration of a map like malchors leap, compared to a map like frostgorge sound. I think the typical elements of malchors leap, (with the skill points replaced by the mastery points) and the addition of adventures to replace non-repeatable renown hearts, it is a good one. I do hope they will add a reward for map completion. Maybe even a reward for completing each layer, and a reward for completion of all three. The adventures should be included with them.

64 bits support only is important for programs that require more then 2 GB memory. As GW2 is far from reaching that treshhold, 64 bits support doesn’t add anything to the performance of the game.
Incorrect.
64-bit is about much more than memory capacity.
Although memory capacity is important in that regard; any computer that contains more than 3.5 GB of memory is severely kitten with only 32-bits, as the extra memory can only be used by 64-bits.
You are incorrect. A 64 bits processor running a 64 bits OS is emulating a 32 bits program into a 64 bits mode. So while each program (process actually) is limited to 2gig, they can extend the 2gig as high as the 64 bits support (which is theoratical 16.8 million terrabites, so in this case you hit the limit of the mainboard). It is a common mistake to say that, just cause a 32 bit OS had this limitation, this also counts for the cumulative amount of ram used by 32bits programs on a 64 bits machine. 32 bits is emulated to 64 bits and so cumulative it can extend to the max of the machine, but per process it can’t extend the 2 gig.

The ports are forwarded. I even manually did them last night. Also there is no compatibility option for the game. No change in the way it behaves.
All programs (if playing on windows) have the compatibility option. however, some windows version don’t show it properly on the shortcut. You have to go to the isntalation directory and right click the gw.exe and choose property’s then. There you’ll find that.

So in that case then, why do they switch CPU to the Graphic card then? this will bring down the power on the cpu then reduce the bottle neck.
Cause they want a wider range of players to be able to play the game. Most computers have a decent CPU, but not all got a decent GPU.
The visual quality of the world is created for 80% by the drawing quality. They choose a very artistic style on purpose, it gives them the possibillity to create a game that is not so demanding. This means that people who normally don’t play games, can play this one.
When I started with GW1, I had a crappy pc (specially graphically) just cause I didn’t play games. However, watching GW1 at a friend got me convinced to get a copy myself and my pc back then could run it. Later I got a more decent rig, but without that first step I never picked up gaming. I know many people who got hooked on GW1 and later GW2 this way. So by keeping the GPU-requirements low (even though integraded intels are not supported, even they play the game reasonable well) they adress a much larger audience then most games and for many this is the first mmo they ever played cause of this.

as for DX11 support. The biggest bottleneck in performance is not the graphical rendering itself, but the lag in big kitten events like zerg vs zerg and world bosses. Making use of any better graphical rendering would actuall increase this issue. In the end, DX11 requires more input, so the bottleneck of big events is only increased that way.

Hop 7 and 8 are blanked cause that hops firewall is blocking ping commands. This means that it is impossible to trace. When I trace to the same IP. I get blocked after the same level13.net (but not san jose). the hops that are shown are well within limits. Including the final hops (which is inside the datacenter).
@Daywolf.2630 : arin.net is not a registry business. but the official north america IP-distribution service. It often shows up on ip-lookups, cause they keep track of the whois info. If you only get that info, use a different whois service. I did a whois and it came up with a different location and even the company name. Level 3 communication. This is an internet service provider in colorado. In this case it gives a location in Richardson – texas. As this is a different location then that of the datacenter, it is an external party.
To OP…when did these issues started??
Did it started after a gap of playing? or overnight?
between the last time it worked fine and the first time you had issues…did anything change at your end (for example, router, firewall, internet provider). It might be just a matter of decent port forwarding in your router. The trace looks good (74ms on the final hop is well within limits), so the connection is stable and working fine.Last time I played GW1 was many years ago and I had no problems then. Nothing has really changed in the meantime. My internet has only gotten better since. GW2 runs just fine but GW1 is unplayable. My ping jumps up and down a lot when I look at the little connection icon. Avg ping anywhere between 190-380. In GW2 though avg ping is usually around 80.
190-380 is normal for GW1 and has always been normal. It is not an open world mmo, so the amount of data being exchanged with the server is a lot less. 190-380 doesn’t cause rubberbanding.
Your internet got faster, so I have to asume you got a new router too. that is a big kitten change. Check the manual how to forward ports and make sure you open them for gw1.
Also changing the compatibility mode of the game can solve a lot of issues.
The problem is clearly on your end, so if you want it to be solved, you need to do things.

gw2 heart of thorns collectors edition?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Currently the Digital Deluxe Edition (inclds. Heroic Edition) was only just OK-ish value. I hope NCSoft-Arenanet put more thought+effort+monies into making any – yet un-announced ……… HoT: Collector’s Edition……… < …. >…..
too be fair, collection editions never are really worth the money if you compare packages. It is more a matter of showing fandom and showing support for the game. If I compare the CE for Gw2 with that of other mmo’s, then it is actually better then average.
As for the OP. the different kind of digital packs and fysical packs are normally announced the moment the pre-order opens up. As this is not the case, no info is currently available.

What are the odds this beta revealed everything the expansion will bring? I didn’t play it, but by all reports I’ve seen this beta did not show that much.
It clearly didn’t reveal everything.
We only could play the top layer (canopy). When jumping down we would land on a black floor of death. If reports are correct, there are two more layers below. the playable area was bordered by the red-diagonals (also common in instances). looking at the location of the map name, it seemed to be 40% of the map. So only 1 out of three layers, and only 40%. In total we only had access to bout 15% of the entire map

It is extremely personal. I dislike my warrior. It is just boring to play.
My mesmer is fun for jumping puzzles
My ele is fun for WvW zerking
My guardian is fun for dungeons
My ranger is fun for exploring
My thief is fun for daily’s
My engineer is fun for hanging out and GM’s
My necromancer is fun for……hmmmmm…..hmmmmm….I give up
This is just my personal opinion. You really have to find out yourself. But as you got 2 level 80’s, you are not limited in doing content right now. I recommend to do several, or even all. If you get bored, don’t delete, but just switch. when you come back it will be refreshing again.
