Did you do HotW story or explorable??. For the rest your doing the right things (I guess your farming corrupted creatures in frostgore). Maybe invest in some +magic find gear. It really boosts the droprate (wich is very low).
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
hmm, on one hand your complaining that there aren’t enough people for dynamic events. on the other hand you want a server with a lot WvW and sPvP. This means you want a balanced and active server.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
shared cooldowns only apply to swapped weapons. there is no shared cooldown between on and offhand weapons. However swapping from on/offhand set to twohand set, means that any of them has a cooldown, this is shared with the 2-handed weapon. Same goes when swapping from 2h to 1h set, the cooldown applies to both weapons then. but as long as you dont swap, you dont have shared cooldown.

I think no one knows……
I know some people did it, but it isn’t on the official page of supported tags (forum codes). I think the main reason is that the mods wants to have the possibility for e.g. official posts, but they don’t really want embedded video’s in the players posts.
The reason is the same as when you get a message after clicking a link that you are leaving the gw2 site. The reason is that with a link, you know Anet isn’t responsable for the content.
Allowing and supporting embedded video’s means that Anet has to take responsability of checking the content. That means that a mod has to watch the whole vid (might be something bad in the last 30 seconds). Vids can sometimes be several hours long.
Keep in mind this is NOT a fan forum. This is an official service of Arenanet.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
No there isn’t. And imo you shouldn’t want to. GW2 is very different then other MMO’s and dungeon’s are really hard. So you really need the first 30levels to master your character, and your class good enough to have a fighting change in a dungeon. No matter how good you think you are, wanting to do it without playing the rest of the game regularly, you will fail.

just a bit of google on the term Bhangra (wich is the name of the dance).
Where e.g. the shuffle, carlton or the Haka are very clear dance with very clear moves, the Bhangra and also the robot (asuran dance) are more a wider style where the origin of the ingame dance is more based on more then just a one vid or dance with a fixed number of dance steps.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
hmmm, you mean exotic’s to get the legendary precursor right??
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
the four boosts has to be activated manually building times is over. so you can make them all four, one after another and then activate them at once.
The workshop is a permanent upgrade allowing to build two things at a time. The asuran outsourcing is single use, and also allows to make an additional thing at the same time.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Personally I find it farfetched to make this jump of conclusions. It might be an hint, but it can also mean a dozen other things, including that there is no meaning behind it at all,
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
At the current moment only by changing your homeserver. There is some system called guesting in planning, but when is unknown, it has been announced from the start of the game, so it could easily be another 6 months or so.
If your friends server is currently full, you can try again on a later time (middle of the night is the best time).
You can join your friend in dungeon’s. All you need to be is in the same party and the area where the dungeon entrance is.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
first off all, the race only decide the first 30 levels of your storyline. So for your story experience it doesn’t really matter. There is an organisation called the durmand priory. All races can join their rank at level 30. Their goal is to defeat the elder dragons by searching for ancient artifacts and information by exploring old ruins and caves.
Asura’s are inventors, but not really explorers. They tend to bound themself easily to a certain location.
The norn are brawlers, but have a strong believe in nature and the spirits of nature. So that might interest you. Silvari are like your saying very new and curious so according to whatyour saying I would pick either Norn or Silvari.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Currently there are two half lighthouses in Lion’s Arch. The old one (that was destroyed during the karka-attack, and they are building a new one right next to it.
With some climbing you can still get into the old lighthouse and the npc’s are still there telling the story:
’ This lighthouse is the only surviving structure from the original Lion’s Arch. The rest of the city and its citizens were destroyed by the tidal wave created when Zhaitan raised Orr fril the depths.’
First off all it’s odd they didn’t remove the npc’s or changed the dialogue. Now it is as if they don’t know the thing collapsed on their heads. But guess Anet was a lil bit lazy here.
Secondly I’m rather curious why they make a totally new lighthouse instead of restoring the only remaining building of the original Lion’s Arch.
Any thoughts??
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Okay, so Mercury you got a few things quite wrong, but the overall concept is correct.
The gods, specifically Abaddon, gave magic out freely, not just to the humans but to everyone. Because of this new found power many of the races went to war, and the biggest target was Humanity because the humans pushed many races out at Balthazar’s request.
From: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Ecology_of_the_Charr
‘Then, the humans came, an infestation caused by beings called gods that had been enemies to the Charr since the beginnings of history. The humans worshiped and revered these gods, and in return were given magic the likes of which the Charr had never before. This upstart race spread like a plague across the continent, and the Charr soon faced the true challenge to their dominance–the threat of humanity’
This text shows that initially only humans where given magic or atleast not the char. The problem is that different lore sources (the mursaat fought the sears before the arrival of the humans and the gods ,and knew the magic skill spectral agony) and current game mechanics (currently all races know magic) are contradicting each other. So it is debatable if this piece of text is right.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I think I’ve played all possible options of the human lvl 20-30 storyline and I don’t remember it taking place down there. My thought are that this is replaced or abanded content and has no real function. It might be something for planned content though.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
magic is a gift by the gods to the humans in Tyria. At some unknown point the other races got capable of doing magic as well. What is known is that originally you could study and learn all schools of magic. The magic comes from what is known as the bloodstone. cause of that humans became to powerfull and the war between the human guilds (a.k.a. the guildwars) became overly violent and agressive. On request of King Doric, the gods splitted the bloodstone in 5 pieces, 4 representing the 4 schools and a 5th used as a keystone. Since then it was only possible to study one school of magic. Wich one was up to the individual to decide.
So magic is like a force of nature, all beings can use it at birth. But you are required to choose a school and are limited in what magic you can wield. The individual skills are learned by using magic (you start with one skill).
The four schools are: Aggression, Denial, Destruction, and Preservation. Also see http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Magic
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Race is purely for story and looks. So it doesn’t matter in how difficult it is. Pick whatever appeals to you
For class I would say Ranger. It is rather easy to play and to master. The only downside is that you can never become really really good, but you can fginish the game easily and are also welcome in party’s.
GW2 is not the ideal mmo to start with imo. The reason is that they wanted to make it interesting for the hardcore mmo-players from the start. My advise is to find a friendly guild that is willing to help you. The positive thing atm is that due to christmass there are a lot of people who got the game as a present and there are a lot of new players. This means many experienced people have made new characters to help their friends.
Also you need to decide on the server your playing on. I am on the european server Gandara.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
555 hours means your playing bout 3,5 hours/day. There are people who are playing bout 12-15 hours/day.
You don’t have to pay a lot for the exotics. Dungeon’s are a great way of obtaining them with tokens.
To get the legendary weapon in a reasonable amount of time you need to show a lot of dedication. It is time consuming and expensive to get/buy everything you need.
My estimation would be a total of 1000 hours of playing the game, wich can be lowered to 500 hours if you buy gems with real money and use them to get gamegold.
You also need to understand that just playing isn’t enough. You really need to farm. Invest therefor in + magic find gear and big bags and a few mystic salvage kits.
Do dungeon paths daily and afterwards go farming in e.g. frostgorge sound. Do not buy anything and fill your bank with materials. Also go off course for 100% world completion and play WvWvW for the badges of honour.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Emote
and off course the custom emotes. Though it doesn’t produce an action you can do funny things in chat with it. e.g. ‘/me sings o solo mio’ when standing on a boat.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
legendary is mainly for the skin, you can always transmutate it to other weapons with the same numbers, but in different attributes. So changes are very very slim they change it when there is a solution for your problem.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Like Awesome said, go to Iron marches, then to Fireheart rise (there is no portal from Diessa plateau)
Alternative, you can go to snowdendrifts (norn starter area), then to frostgorge sound and from there to Fireheart rise. This is slightly shorter, but Frostgorge sound is for level 70-80 characters so could be a challenge if your below 70.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I agree it highly depends on the situation. Besides that, calling targets only works in a party. So not when playing with randome people you’ve encountered.
And please don’t call people a noob. It is offending no matter how right you are, and in this case you are only partly right in sharing a valuable tip wich is usefull in some situations.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

Hey Vinnie,
What is your personal story log in the top right corner actually saying? if it is ‘talk to Tervelen’ you can find him in the monestary, but thats before you went to the centaurcamp.
As far as I know personal story’s doesn’t keep track of your progress, but will be resetted.Though I’ve never logged off when inside one. You mind want to do the following (if possible). Go into the instance. Die (find a foe or a high cliff). From the dialogue window choose return to Queensdale. The story should have reset to the start. If you can’t die you can also try running outside of the zone (the red area on the map) and be kicked out.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Warrior or Ranger.
Warriors and Rangers (in your case the ranger) are both capable of playing the game ranged with no problem at all. The main reason for not playing eitther of them they are limited in the possibility to excell.
You hit hard and kill quick and thats it. Where e.g. the engineer has more specialised roles for e.g. support, healing, kiting, slowing, etc. This means all warriors and rangers are good at the game, but they are limited in getting very good or the best.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Hey Vinnie,
The personal story always plays out in an instance. This instance is based on the real world and looks the same, but has to reenterd after you log out.
This particular storyline starts at the monastery with a green star.
You can also check that on the map and in the top right corner.
Secondly, it sometimes happen that a storyline glitches. So if you still have this problem and you are sure you entered the instance I would suggest to file a support ticket. Also if a lot of people have this problem you can find more information bout it in the bugsection.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I think Awesome answered it pretty good. Changes are that even the developpers don’t know yet if next year halloween will be the same. They might be still in the evaluation process and maybe also waiting for the reports bout wintersday and future events.
At the moment you can’t get the achievements. It is unknown if this is going to change in the future. It is also unknown if they will stay in the list forever. I guess they will atleast for those people who had some progress in the achievements.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
mmmhmmm, maybe try to get a chest and NOT open it?? I guess after some time you’ll get the hint to open it.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Orr is designed as end game area’s. So they decided to not put hearts there. There are a lot of dynamic events there. but they are indeed rather hard.
You can do map completion by visiting all PoI’s, vista’s, skillpoints, and waypoints. Wich is very doable without people around. The rewards for mapcompletion are better then lower level area’s.
Orr is currently deserted for several reasons.
a: there is a lot of different end game content with e.g. fractal, WvW and dungeon’s. So people are doing different things and Orr isn’t very popular cause of the difficultylevel vs amount of rewards.
b: Christmass. A lot of famillymembers and friends recieved a copy of GW2 for christmass. Many experienced people are helping there friends family members in starter area’s
c: holliday’s. many people are away from their computer for a few days.
My advise: Go to frostgorge sound. It is also for level 70-80, but it has hearts.
Come back to Orr in a week or two.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Hello and welcome.
First off all, your talking bout a miniature and not bout a pet. A pet is an unofficial name but mostly used to descrive the animal companion of a ranger.
Secondly there are many other ways to get a miniature. They sell on the trade post and you can use gems to buy them at the gemstore (you can trade gold for gems to get enough gems).
Thirdly, a friendly warning. A good amount of the community is very friendly and helpfull, but don’t like people begging. I know this cause many guilds have this as a rule. I’m not saying to correct you but you also state that you have trouble getting in a party for the dungeons. This might has to do with the fact that your pretty new (not max level yet), but attitude is considered as well.
Last point is that, like you said, you jsut started playing this game. There will be another wintersday in a year. so keep those items stored and get the stuffing next year.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I use http://www.gw2armor.com/ for all my armor browsing needs. As for runes and such the wiki is your best bet http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Runes. Cheers!
Though GW2armor is a great site for finding a skin you like it is terrible for finding wich armor has wich stats.
pls read the question before answering
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
r = autorun
1 = autoattack (spam skill one)
But basicly the answer is no,left click or pressing 1 hardly makes any difference. Keep in mind that specially warrior are very powerfull. I’m currently leveling one with a good friend who’s playing ele. The ele has a good kick, but my warrior is superior in damageoutput.
Being on target and staying on target (as you are basicly suggesting) would mean at the current damageoutput the challenge would be gone.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
according to this there are two sets: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_Level_80_Exotic_Armor
(knights crafted armor and arah dungeon armor).

a small warning. I dont think it is any problem. But getting information from the game to an outside source is technicly not allowed in the eula. Though this will be hard to detect and I dont think in this case Anet will really mind, it might be better to file a supportticket first to check if they are ok with you doing this.
The reason is that Zugly’s suggested trigger: (when healthbulb is halffull, take this action) can indeed be used for the trigger to change the keyboards backlight. It can however er also be used to perform the action press 6, so you are automaticly healed.
The later is considered botting. It might be that the automatic bot detection system is going to mark you. So asking in advange and having approval is advisable imo.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Yes it has.
Though orders armor is a lil bit less then exotic armor. So you might want to get an random exotic set and use (fine) transmutation stones anyway to transfer the looks to an piece with exotic stats.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
First of all, ever profession can play till the end of the game, and it doesnt have anything to do with superior gear or having more levels. This was the case with oldstyle mmo’s but not anymore. Gears and level make a difference, but not THE difference.
Your prolly doing something wrong in your playstyle. This means as above mentioned you could decide to play a different kind of profession. But wait, before you do realise why you hvae chosen the profession you picked. The other way to do it is to change your tactics.
a: always start at the lowest part of a zone. it is easily to wander into the hardest part of the zone. A good example is Kessex hills. If you enter from Queensdale Claypool portal its very tempting to go to fort Salma. On the otherside of fort salma is a part of the map that is really tuff, specially for low armor characters. Even my level 80 engineer has some problems there.
b: Avoid over agro at all cause. use ranged weapons for pulling and kiting before engaging the enemy.
c: unless your a warrior you should never stand still. always keep on moving using the dodge buttons or just wasd (or arrowkeys).
Even if you only use the left and right arrow key to patrol a defense line while attacking makes roughly 50% of all incoming damage a miss.
d: understand the downed mechanism
e: invest skillpoints in a good healing skill.
hope this helps
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Yes it is permanent. or…well unless you buy a new kit and change it again.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I have only played GW1, GW2 and LOTRO so not a clue. However you are a bit contradicting yourself. First your saying you miss being able to perform music for other people. Then you state that using scripts isn’t fun. Though I agree, there is nobody stopping you to not use scripts. It is your own satisfaction your looking for right??
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Is it not possible to collect miniatures unless you pay real cash? I was hoping to build a collection like in the first game through events and achievements, but now it seems like it’s only for those who want to pay.
Hmmm, in the wintersday section of the forum is a lot of debate bout this. So I would suggest to go there.
My personal opinion is that it might be sad for the mini-collectors, but I do understand that Arenanet is a commercial company. making and running a game like this cost alot of money. Where most mmo-makers have a pay to win or monthly fee system in place, GW2 is for the biggest part pay (once) to play and win. the only exception to this so far are the miniature collectors. I do hope that arenanet do one of the following things:
1: make the miniatures tradable.
2: promise to have the same miniature next year. Hopefully not only as a very rare drop from mystery boxes, but also directly for gems (maybe for like 2000-3000 gems). That way people like you know to farm all year and put gamegold away soyou can buy the gems with gold and get them next year.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wintersday_Mystery_Box/drop_rate
This is the best asnwer I could give.
Though there are not enough reports it gives a good indication. Droprates on the mini’S are very very low. For the Foostivoo the drop rate is even lesser.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
You have to pay again

@Nayaru: During the Beta weekend events this feature was a planned feature. Everone assumed that it would be implemented at start and I was very surprised (and somewhat dissapointed) it wasn’t. I was playing GW with friends I met online from across Europe. With GW2 several collegues of mine came from different games. I decided to follow my online friends. But would love to play GW2 with my collegues, specially now im ina new function and not seeing them all day anymore.
However the feature was clearly not implemented due to waiting for server population to settle but due to technical difficulties with the system. They are working on it and have shown progress (by the dungeon guesting system). But it would be great to have it in place for all PvE activity’s

Every section has 3 paths.
1: to an attunement devices. This will give you and attunement that activates the next exit portal (not next to the attunement device, the portal next to the device brings you to another portal in the area).
2: from the portal you ended on path 1 to the end portal.
3: from the start portal to the exit portal. this portal gives an attunement error if you are not attuned to it.
For windy station the paths are:
1: go straight ahead, on the floating islands, look down to see one floating far below you. Drop down, and to another one further below. then you can jump across to solid ground and to the attunement device.
2: go straigth ahead. Go over the vines (watch the wind blowing to time it) to the exit portal. (if you drop down you can use path 3 as an alternative from the start)
3: go straight ahead. Onthe floating islands turn left and jump on to where the vines start (watch the wind blowing to time it). then use the exit portal.
The attunement is actually a boon and is visiable as a boon. Mouseover to see how much time you have left. There is actually plenty of time, but with a lot of faillures you might need to refresh it at the attunement device.

Best way to find a guild: Go to lion’s arch and ask for an invite to a guild. tell a bit what your looking for and I think within minutes your i na guild.
Best way to find a decent guild your going to like : Play the game (and do activity’s you like), talk to people you meet, be social and interact with others. When you feel a connection with a player or group of players aks them if they are in a guild and if so if you can join.

Class balance is pretty good. Rangers are very capable to play the game from a beginner to an intermediate level. In end game stuff they can be helpfull for almost any party, but not outstanding. The reason is that it is a an easy class to master. Where for example an engineer is harder to play, but for e.g. end game a good engineer can excell more.
No you cant keybind skills, but there are only 10, so 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0 are the keys.
Bout bosses and lvl’s and groupsizes. hmmmm this is difficult to explain. best is to not worry bout it. You are downscaled if an area is below your own level. most bosses are aprt of an event. normal events use a scaling system for the amount of players participating. some special events (called group-events) are not scaled for the group size participating and need a good amount of players.
You can transmutate any piece of gear. you need a transmutation stone (consumed on use) to transmutate end game gear (above level 79) you need a rarer and more expensive kind of stone.
Legendary’s are aqcuired by playing very very very long. Best is to start playing, check the wiki after 1-2 weeks of playing and if you have any questions then I’ll answer it. I made an manual for my guild’s forum and it is bout 500 words, to describe one legendary’s shoppinglist and istruction on how to acquire everything and put it together.
Crafting: yes it can matter. Not really for gold making. but again dont worry, you can change later on for a very small fee of ingame gold. so again better to just try the game and understand the mechanics
Welcome and success

many keyboards have a function key. Sometimes also with an function led (like the caps lock led). Try find that key and press it so the led is unlit. Then they should work normally.
If you can find it, like Drevin said, pls share your keyboard name and type.

1: the way to get them uncontested is indeed by doing some events. they are pretty hard and take a lot of players. a lot of people are currently occupied with wintersday, so it might be that the events start and fail pretty soon due to the lack of players.
2: events can get stuck, so it is very possible that one or more of them have hit a bug. A server reset normally should fix this. Personally I expect one in the next few days. This cause the events like all previous events has some minor bugs that can be fixed easily.
3: please post your servername so people on your server can check it out as well.

I think asking here isnt the right action (this is the players helping players section, while the one who can asnwer it for you is support). This can be done as an automated action, cause they decided to take a certain kind of questreward out of the game and are giving everyonewho did that quest an replacement (I didn’t get anything, but quests rewards are specifick for race, professions and storyline). It can also be the result of a support ticket you filed. Last of all it can also be an mistake. Best is to file a supporticket to find out.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I do think that fighting the boss of a world event (dragon or e.g. like the fire elemental) should be more rewarding. It shouldn’t make you more wealthier though. My suggestion would be to add an account bound token to the chest reward (that is always! rewarded beside the current crap inside it), that can be traded for unique gear (like dungeon tokens)
