Best is to go to the dungeon entrance and spam in /l lfg ac story (or instead of ac, cm)
Make sure people understand you have never done a dungeon (tell them in /p after you have been invited).

The best to start with is the second dungeon Cauducus’s manor in Beetletun (Queensdale). Though the first dungeon is ascalonian catacombs, the second one is a lot shorter and forgiving.

Necro or Engi?

If you think that ranger lacks damage and a pet that dies too often, you will find all three classes you are investigating less.

Ele’s are very very very squishy. A mob onbly needs to look angry at them and they die. So you need to be very quick to avoid being killed.

Necro’s have pets to compensate the squishyness. but you have less control over the pets and they die sooner.

Engineers are special opps. They need a lot more tactics to play well.

I think you should either stick to the ranger longer or switch to an even easier profession like the warrior. Warrior and ranger are the classes that are the easiest to play.

Why have I lost my interest?

@Digital Dragon,
I disagree. Video games have always been very addictive. MMO’s have a different factor in it called a social factor. WoW is the most famous one leaning on that. You need to be online at that time of day to participate in that raid (your guild is asking that from you tom be recognised as a valuable guildmember) and you need to prepare for the raid in advance to be able to do it. As a reward you get eyecandy and better stats to do the next raid even better. This means you are pressed to keep on playing more and more and more and they are trying to control your everyday life.

I really understand it is self-discipline to not fall for those ‘traps’ (and huge kuddo’s if you did) but those games are designed to get you addicted, so you keep on paying the monthly fee.

GuildWars 2 has a different mindset. You will not be rewarded for being n addict, and neglecting your real life. It offers a very interesting gameplay in PvE wich is very rewarding if you take your time, and if you like ´they offer very good competitive elements in PvP (and it keeps gettign better).

As soon as you bought the game, they got you. With that I mean that for Blizzard (and others) where they need you to keep on playing. Off course they hope to get you interested enough to buy future content. But if you rush through things too fast (for whatever reason), you have to wait for new content so people who have more real life have time to chatch up. Untill then you can choose to grind for some better eyecandy, play another game till the next content comes out, or ragequit.

The people in the ragequit category are imo the people who are too much addicted. For the people complaining here I do not put you in the last category (ragequit means ragequit and you wouldn’t be commenting here), but I do advise to be patient. And maybe check your achievements log. there are imo some very interesting titles to fill in since the last update.

1: This festival is a surprise to all of us. We don’t know anything bout how it will develop.
2: the thing you are referring to is a single dev saying to keep our eyes out at that date at a specifick time.

I suspect it can be either two things.
a. something minor you won’t miss having done or just miss it slightly.
b. something really big and huge.

To ensure everyone to enjoy it, and having experience with Anet, they will make it repeatable. If that is not the case they will make a proper announcement before hand when and where to be. So don’t worry too much. I think that with a liltle bit of effort they are making sure you won’t miss a change.

Need some help

mercury ranique.2170

First off all traits. You can have a max of 70 trait points in the game and every tier can have a max of 30 points spend (if you bought all three books), So when specialising in tiers (and not spreading out) you can still fill two tiers to the max and have 10 points left for a third.

However, don’t worry bout it yet too much. You get to reset them again when you get lvl 60 and get the last book. Besides that I would advise to play till lvl 80, make sure you know what to play for end game and then make your semi-final decission. till then just play with the traits and try to find out what you prefer.

The same goes for Karma. There are some very good things to spend them on now. But there are better things later on. So if in doubt wait till you are level 80 and know where your interests lies. If you want to grind for a legendary weapon, keep the karma till then. If you like to craft, you might want to use it earlier on the special recipes and ingredients. If you want a special exotic cutlural weapon skin, save it till then…

It all depends on what you like in this game. So my advise is to learn bout your options and decide then

Necro or Engi?

I haven’t made a necro for personal reasons, but as I understand it is a very different class then in GW1. You use minions as tanks and for the rest your mainly a condition spammer. The damage output is very nice and the survivability is good.

Ele’s is my first character and they are very very squishy. They do however make it up with loads of damage.

Engineer is my second love and my biggest. They are the special ops in gw2. They can do virtually anything reasonable ok and good. High damage, good support, loads of conditions, fulling pve with stationary tanks, etc. The main problem with the engineer is that it can do soo much, but you need to specialise (atleast before the fight) and it takes time to unlock and know all the turrets. kits and possibillity’s.

You are asking bout builds. I would highly recommend looking outsaide this forum for it. some external websites specialise on it. But more important I would advise not to go there and find it out your own. A character need to be made your own. some general builds are nice, but it doesn’t make too much difference and it requires a special playstyle.

To really assist you in your quest I would ask you to tell what you dislike bout the ranger and what you hope to find in the necro, engineer or ele.

First off all,

Halloween has started. For starting players it has little impact and the extra things are minor and very recognisable.

In the starter area there are only three things you wouldn’t get normally:
1: Raw candy corn, Rich candy corn veins. The are recognisable being big ‘traffic cones’ and can be mined using a pick (wich you can buy from a merchant or as a reward for playing the personal story).
2: Trick or treat doors. You find these at random locations in the landscape. Knock on them them to spawn one or two halloween foes
3: special dynamic events. They are rather rare, and are only recognisable by the fact that you are fighting very strange enemy’s (e.g. plastic spiders). However they are just as regular dynamic event and give the same feeling of difficulty.

Overall, don’t be intimidated by the event. In the end it is just a carved pumpkin with lights inside it, on a stick with a coat. Halloween is for the fun of scaring you, not to scare you to death. And pls ignore ghoststories bout a certain mad king returning.

So very much welcome to the beautifull world of Tyria.

Selling back a mistaken token purchase

in Players Helping Players

mercury ranique.2170

I would like to make clear, I totally understand this feels rotten. However to explain this to real life is that you go to a car dealer, buy an Aston Martin. Ride it home, then a day later you return cause you actually wanted a Porsche.

Why I am saying this is when buying valuable things you should pay attention. people are buying exotic dungeon armor the same way as they are buying 100 iron picks.

A confirm button would be useless imo. The people who aren’t paying enough attention are just going to click it anyway (proven by microsoft’s are you sure buttons). My solution would be to make these items salvageable with a black lion salvage kit, wich returns 66% of the invested tokens. This is enough to lighten the pain and also enough to let it be a hard lesson.

If it is, then I’ve just proven how easily I can get your character name.

No it isn’t.
Like being said it is totally unneeded to ask the OP his name. It won’t tell you anything cause you don’t even have to have EotN to have Kimmes in GW2 to talk to you. My second account is factions only (and storage only) and has it’s 3 basic points everyon who owns any campaign in GW1 gets. So knowing how much points OP has doesn’t matter at all.
What matters is that he claims his account is correctly linked by him. We can’t check this claim (support can, and if not correct it for him or explain how to correct it himself). If it is correctly linked kimmes should at least offer him the heritage shoes, shorts and chestpiece.

@Digital Dragon: to get more points you need to play more GW (and for anything above 3 points you need to have traveled to the Eye of the North.

I think in this case your better off, asking support to help you. I would ignore Sleepwalkers advise. Although it is not on purpose, your gw1 character name is part of your security queston and there for it is unwise to post it on a public place. Beside that I don’t know what it would learn us if we know whats in it. You have visited the HoM in GW1 (or atleast logged in, so that would mean the first three rewards are ready) so the problem is that the accounts are obviously not properly linked (bugged?!). First off all, PvP is not bout stats. Failing in PvP means you are running the wrong tactics. prefering a playstyle that you can handle very well is a very good thing. prefering a playstyle cause it is more fun means you will get killed.

The most people agree that mesmer is slightly OP in pvp (together with thief, but though the thief can be played ranged, they specialise more in melee)

Beside that, you are reacting rudely to the things I stated, but haven’t told me why if someone would be able to do this by hacking, they are putting a trick in visiable for everyone else, while they just could do things much more hidden for public eyes. There has been no confirmed reports bout someone hacking the game server (you seeing it means it isn’t a client hack but a server hack).

But to give some explanation what you might! have seen:
‘Superior Rune of Vampirism:(6): You become mist when you fall below 10% health. (Cooldown: 60s)’ (I know the wiki is saying it is bugged, but that info might be outdated).

It took me 15 seconds to find a reasonable explanation.

There is no hacker option cause it is very very very unlikely you saw a hacker. To hack the game you need a lot of skill and training. making a hack so you can change the skills of a warrior means you’ve hacked so deep you could as well add 1,000,000 gold coins to your account.

You prolly saw a glitch and would be reporting someone for nothing.
However….. All reports arebeing looked at. So any option will do. In this case botting would be the best pick cause the GM would not only look at chat but also at behaviour

New Guild Wars 2 Player, Couple of Questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

1) do not compare them at all.
WoW is build around the holy trinity (tank, dps, healer). GW2 is made to break the trinity. Every class need to tank, to dps and to heal and solo or grouping doesn’t change it. You should always be ready to play all these roles at the same time. For example, foes will change target and doesn’t stay on agroing the tank(s) alone. So expecting to be able to play like a paladin is wrong. Furthermore, if you want to be good at support and come from a traditional healer, the last thing I would advise is the Guardian. Not that they are not ok, but cause guardians are melee based.

2: Dungeons are for smaller groups of 5 people. They are also very challenging and it takes time to master them. If one player is failing it can be very hard to finish the dungeon and if two are failing it is nearly impossible to finish.
Dynamic events are what you would call a raid. with the difference that you do it in pug’s. The events are dynamic, meaning you can pass the same swamp 25 times, and nothin g happens. The 26th time however you meet this… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=negeLd6w3KE

Nowadays, most of them are fairly documented and trigger like every 3 hours. Therefore the big ones like these have a lot of people doing them

Which profession is most similar to Guardian?

be ’ tanky’ is none except guardian and warrior.
For the rest I would advise you to look at the engineer. It has been my main for a long time now and I just got her to level 80. Specially towards the end I am getting challenged to discover the full depths of this class:

Very good at kiting single enemy’s using the rifle.
Very good at nuking bigger mobs using a flamethrower.
Turrets for additional damage and as tank.
drink potions for yourself or throw them at enemy’s to buff, heal or remove conditions
healing turret for an aoe heal
med kit for additional support.
And a potionriffle to deal conditions and further buff and heal your allies.

mercury ranique.2170

I think you are accusing the people in your pictures of botting….
Every server have this problem. It isn’t keeping you away from obtaining the legendary. I’m afraid there are only two things you can do bout this:
1: always report them
2: try to ignore them

Arenanet have announced that they are busy with developping more methods to prevent botting. However the last method they introduced (DR) didn’t have a lot of success and resulted in a lot of complaints from the normal players.

Keep in mind that they won’t tell us much bout these methods. We are very likely just seeing the amount of botters go down. Somewhere i nthe next 24 hours we are expecting the first contentupdate since release (meaning that it is not just fixing bugs and smaller problems, but significant stuff), so who knows, very soon……

I will keep my fingers crossed for it.

Hi all. I have a stupid question. Just started the game and am finding that currency seems to mysteriously disappear, I find stuff sell it habe about 100 gold and after naxt battle i’m down to nothing or maybe 4-6.

If you just started the game it is very unlikely you have 100 gold. It will be more like 100 copper. It isn’t dissapearing, but 100 copper coin = 1 silver coin. To prvent you bulking with small change, the game autmaticly convert is to 1 silver coin.

So lets say you have 98 copper coins. You loot a centaur you killed and get 4 copper coins. After that your inventory would read 1 silver coin, 2 copper coins.

[Suggestion]: NPC for order changes if you haven't done any of the order quests yet

in Suggestions

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

I agree with you that it would be important to fix this and I understand where you are comming from, but I’m afraid that the solution is more complicated then implementing a solution that fixes the real problem.

For such an npc they need to make a design, make up a name, design a dialogue window and program a revert-system for storylines. I am afraid that thats not whats going to happen. If you had this bug, you either need to live with it or reroll you character. Specially cause most people propably would have continued in their (unwillingly) chosen order.

A more fitting fix for the problem is very simple, do not allow guesting in the instance where you pick the order. It is a no-fighting instance, so just make sure that people can only go in solo (partymembers will stay in the party, but don’t get the option to join in). Problem for future players would be solved then…

You are saying ‘this bug has left many players feeling that this claim is no longer valid’. In Highschool they learned me to prevent talking on behalve of others when trying to convince. I understand this is a problem you have and it is a big thing for you. I do however think you are making an exaggeration to underline your otherwise very valid point. There are people who have hit this bug and there are some for whom it is a game breaking experience. But implementing a specifick storyline roll back feature in any way is a lot of work and very difficult. I do not expect they are going to do that for a problem that is going to be fixed for new players.

Don’t get me wrong. I symphatise with you, but if your GF really doesn’t want to do that story of the order then I would suggest to reroll (but keep your current characters just in case).

Getting trapped there should only happen if you are out of money, otherwise you can travel to any other waypoint. I agree that certain DE’s have some balancing issues, but this is mstly a problem in the lower level area’s for farming I highly recommend the higher level area’s and DE’s. The maim problem is that in e.g. Queensdale, they want newcommers with a starting weapon and one skill unlocked be able to do a DE. example the major rune of the mesmer has as a description:
(1): +15 Power
(2): +10 Precision
(3): +35 Power
(4): +25 Precision

This means if you have 4 of these on 4 different armor pieces you get all of the stats. If you put a 5th on a 5th armor piece you get no bonus at all and it is just ignored.

If you want to put 5 or even 6 runes of the same kind on your armor you need superior runes. The description bout the superior rune of the mesmer reads:
(1): +25 Power
(2): +15 Precision
(3): +50 Power
(4): +35 Precision
(5): +90 Power
(6): +33% Daze Duration

(however, you need to be level 60 to be able to use superior runes, and you armor needs to be for level 60 or higher as well or it won’t stick on it.)

Well I think you summoned the difference up very well. Ele’s are more squishy then necro’s but they deal more damage. There isn’t really much to add to it.

Whjat I do like bout the ele however is that it gives you more room to make your own style. Meaning that you can concentrate on pure damage, but also using stuns (cripples, kd, daze) to slow the enemy down, to parety support. A good ele can switch those roles in an instance making them very versatile and fun (but more difficult to master).

mercury ranique.2170

Unless Adine has an official quote that I missed, I want to correct it a lil bit.

First off all, there is nothing known bout events in GW2, but we do know from GW1 how Arenanet handles things.
a: event activity’s have sometimes a minimum level. The main reason is to prevent people from making new characters over and over to be able to repeat them.
b: it is Anet’s intention to make the activity’s challenging for every level. So in GW1, there where very easy activity’s and more challenging ones.

I don’t think you are going to miss things when your not level 80. It is just not Anet’s style.

Exotics

Exotic is merely a new for the rarity and colour. Cause the rarer the armor is, the better the stats are and exotics are the most rare, the level 80 versions are the best.

Although the change to get it is very low, you can get them as drops, but also as a reward for map completion. They also drop from chests.

A max level crafter can craft exotics.
by repeating dungeons in explorable mode you can get exotic armor and weapons.
Tier 3 cultural armor and weapons are always exotic.
Last of all the looks. If you don’t fancy a specifick look you can get exotic armor and weapons from the tradepost for less then 10 gold (make sure it is always for level 80).

She is the support Liason and responsable for being the bridge between players, support and dev’s. You can reach here at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/newpm/Gaile-Gray-6028 . She gets a load of these things and needs to make a selection. So make sure you make it very clear why you want her help but also don’t make it a tl;dr story.

Best way to make gold/karma/skillpoints?

in Players Helping Players

I would start by doing the special grinds. This is for sunrise, the dungeon ascalonean catacombs in explorable mode and WvW for the badges.
AC gives a good amount of headstart with your gold and experience (for skillpoints) and helps you get the 500 ascalonian tears needed
WvW gives a good amount of Karma and gold (and helps you get the badges you need)

After that to get the rest I would advise you to also make sure you got the 100% completion gift, cause that will also reward xp, karma and gold.

When all special things are done and you only are in need of money and karma I would start focussing on grinding specially for the gold, karma and experience. The best way is to do world events in high level areas wich also spawns a lot of different enemy and rewards an endchest (for example, the shatterer is a very nice event for karma, but it is only one kill so you don’t get a lot of xp and gold from drops. The maelstrom volcano chain however has a lot of enemy’s to kill specially in the second stage (defend the asura’s while wave after wave of destroyers try to attack them).

Best is to pick 2-3 of those events and use time in between them to travel there. to save money go on foot and do whatever normal dynamic event you see on the way (off course depending how much time you have left to get to the next place).

In game clock: Day and Night?

@EndlessDreamer that is also a myth that has been tested and declared to be not the case. Several sources on the wiki has agreed on the talk page and one descriped it the best:
‘You can speak to her at any moment, and all it does is cause a Veteran Fleshreaver to appear. I don’t think there’s a connection. Someone probably just happened to talk to her when the event restarted.’ ( the npc this person mentioned is Taryn, who is prolly the person you are referring to).

I have consulted many sources, and tried myself for bout 9 hours to find out what the trigger is (timed, dusk, talk to npc, etc) but no success. If you have good proof (like adifferent npc you need to tal kto, and you have done it 5-10 times and evrytime it resulted in the event chain) pls let me know.

Can't find a class I like... starting to get frustrated :-/

So basicly, you are saying that every class has some very positive sides, but also some things that makes the fights interesting and not always a -bang your head on the keyboard and win -. I see the same thing, every class I played have brought me to a point where the foes where pulling my shorts over my head due to the limitations of my class. The thing I always had to do was change my tactics and I could continue again.

I think that is what a good class should be; challenging and interesting.
I think you are giving it up too soon.

full cycle is 2 hours. Daytime is 70 minutes, night is 40 minutes, twilight time is 5 minutes (two times). So the cycle repeats every two hours.

If you are trying to do secrets in the swamp event in Queensdale (the shadow behemoth), there where rumours it triggers at dusk, but due to the fact that people have waited for over 6 hours, I think this is a myth that is busted. The trigger for that event is currently unknown.

I need help getting to level 80 (Stuck at 68)

If you’ve really done all the hearts I imagine you didn’t do anything else (like unlocking waypoints, poi, skill challenges, vista’s, dungeons, crafting, etc.

Cause I think you don’t really like exploration and just want to level up quickly, I advise to use 4-5 gold to buy materials form the TP, start leveling through crafting and that experience to level up. with that amount of money you should be able to gain 5-6 levels in no time.

The search for Molevekian Delve.

My first question is why you are looking for it.

The name can only be found on the official wiki as a non-existing page wich is referenced on the page of destroyer trolls and destroyer harpies. Both references are made in march. In those days there has only been a limited access beta weekend (for the press) and the game was still in development. I think the name changed later on. Judging on the name it is a dredge mine.

1) They do not mess up…
2) see above……

To explain however a bit more in detail. All attacks in GW2 uses a skill (the 5 weapon skills). The first three skills are tight to your mainhand weapon and the last two to your offhand weapon. When using skill 1,2 and 3 the stats of the mainhand weapon are active. When using skill 4 and 5 the stats of the offhand weapon are active.

I need a name or where I can find a armor set I want

in Players Helping Players

mercury ranique.2170

That is the Hall of Monuments heavy armor set. To get it you have to have played GW1 and unlocked it.

Small addition to this, you can still buy and play GW1. The chest, legplates and boots are unlocked as soon as you make an account and a character there. For the others you need to make a little bit of effort, but for the full set (boots, legs, chest, gloves, pauldrons and helmet) you need to play bout 7-10 hours.
You need to buy atleast one campaign (if only going for this reward go for Factions) and the expansion Eye of the North, but recommended is to get all parts. at the moment the whole set will cost you bout 35 euro/35 USD (factions and the expansion will cost you 25 euro/25 USD).

Mac Beta

in Players Helping Players

mercury ranique.2170

The gameclient is beta for mac, not the game itself (so it is not as like the beta weekend events that you only have access to parts of the game).

The macclient gives you full access to the game and everything the pc-client has. The reason it is called beta is that they are still trying to find all the bugs and it isn’t working as optimum as the pc-client. Just an example of few of the bugs:
- Black lion trading post isn’t loading, people might need to restart the game several times
- Many macs use keyboard layouts that are different from pc, making things like weapon swapping more difficult.

Best is to check the mac beta client support forum for some of the problems people are encountering. Overall the game is very playable on the client.

Help picking Character - New to GW

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: mercury ranique.2170

mercury ranique.2170

First off all welcome.
Secondly a little warning: GW2 isn’t the best game to start with if your new to MMO’s The game is designed in such a way that the endgame starts at level 1.

Though this isn’t fully true, they don’t taqke yaou by the hand.
On all my characters I only bring one real healingskill. What is important however is that you always keep on movingand dodging attacks. That way you can lower the damage with 75%.

I would advise you to consider making either a warrior or a ranger.
Warrior are frontline fighters who are dealing heavy damage. beside the dodging (double tab a direction key and you roll into that direction) there isn’t too much tactics involved compared to e.g. the guardian. The downside is that you have to get up close to your enemy’s. Ranger is therefor a good alternative. You use pets and ranged skills to keep a distances between you and your enemy and then you get them down quickly.

The other professions are more complicated, but for a beginning mmo-player not the best pick imo.
