To use the sigil you need to hit with that weapon (so in case of a focus you need to hit with skill 3 or 4)

World events are basicly a chain of dynamic group events. with more oows and aaahs in the end battle. To identify them there is always a Dynamic event text active in the area.
on certain times of the day (mostly every three hours, but not always) the text changes for those in the area (roughly), if you go further to the center you will also get a message of a dynamic event. participate and you get an update, and another update till you are fighting the final world boss.

Take for example the secrets in the swamp event in the godlost swamp in Queensdale.
Most of the time you get the message:
‘The swamp lies dormant.’

This is the sign there is currently nothing going on.
sometimes you might see the message:
‘Underworld forces have been spotted outside the swamp’
This means one or all of the following Dynamic events are active in the area’s around the swamp:
Drive back Underworld creatures by destroying portals in the Heartwoods. (10)
Drive back Underworld creatures by destroying portals in the monastery. (11)
Drive back Underworld creatures by destroying portals in Taminn Foothills. (14)

If all three are completed the message will change to:
‘There is a disturbance in the heart of Godslost Swamp.’
If this one pops up, make sure you get to the center of the swamp cause it is bout to start.

When done it will change to:
‘The beast has been awakened!’ This means the gigantic world boss is up and you need to destroy it.

It takes however a bit of luck and timing to meet a world event. My guildleader just had his third one today, but only cause I told him on teamspeak it was happening and he traveled there quickly.

PvP is for players being competitive
PvE is for players enjoying role playing games.

So if you want to race and be the best play PvP. If you want to enjoy the world of Tyria play PvE. PvE is not a race to the end and there ins’t a big shiny reward when you get there first. Anet promised to keep the world alive and keep on adding fresh new things on a regular basis. The 22th we will see the first proof (thats what they promised us), but do understand they want everyone to be able to finish the game and the extra content. So please be patient if you finish early.

To explain it from a different point of view. You bought a game for a good price. most not mmo games are played through in the amount of time you are talking bout, the average price (for the regular version) was 55 USD. So on average you spent 55USD/337hours = 0.16 USD/hour. For relaxing and having fun it is already a good deal, but wait, there is more. They are going to add more content, all for free.

bottom line:
The game doesn’t have monhtly subs. You are not paying to play the game. So if you are bored now, quit, but follow the website and come back when they add new content. Free to Play requires a mind change and some sacrifces, but you posted this 2-3 days before the first big content update, so my advise is to wait and see.

But do understand that it increases the change of getting special things. so if you have a change of e.g. 2 out of 20 to get a rare with +50% change you have a change of 3 out of 20 to get it.

Exact time is unknown. It starts the 22th with a patch. I think that due to the login problems they had at launch they are bit carefull to give a time and date so the servers are not oversteamed off everyone logging in at that time.

in dungeon runs, i’ve been able to immobilize mobs right as they go into stealth mode, and then you can still see the chains around them. though, that might have been a bug / stun-locked at that one time. can’t be sure and need to test more.

You might have seen the engineer trait Cloaking device (adept trait VI from the invention traitline): ’ You become invisible when immobilized.’

The chains keep being visable, but not the character.

Like you said, the game isn’t built that way. A good interupt control mesmer in GW1 was priceless and very fun. However when it comes to PvE, you have no heroes, and they wanted every class and build be able to solo play the game (with the exception of dungeons). So I think that one of the victums of breaking the trinity is the specialty of the interupt/control mesmer. Unfortunally for you, but not many people played that way in GW1 (though I enjoyed it from time to time).

Yes it will be spammed locally, so not the whole map. People in your party will see it always if they are on the same map. But don’t worry bout it and just go ahead. People can decide to put the emotes off in chat, so they don’t see that you are kneeling (atleast not in chat).

Cause this question keeps popping up, and cause the answer is to check and recheck every map (as stated by others above) I compiled a list of all maps a few posts bout this. Feel free to print this as a checklist to mark the maps you checked.

Well, I mostly play untill or after the daily reset (on EU servers), So when it is 60-30 minutes before it is time I might check what I need. If it is one event or three more gatherings, or 2 more unique kills, I might try to make it before the reset. But you are right, If I am far away I don’t care.

I’m not going into everything you say, but one of the core things of your speech is that they promised to release the names 24 hours after release. This is NOT true. They stated that the first 24 hours you would be able to claim your reserved name. They also stated that every supportticket bout name claiming that first day (and the pre-release weekend off course) needed to be resolved before the names would be given free. So untill that moment you can still claim your reserved name, but you can’t make new support tickets.

Furthermore you might consider looking at the calender. The game was released on 8/28 and today is 10/19, so not 3 months but less then 2 months. I agree that it is taking them a long time, but making up facts isn’t really going to support your point.

I think it is an ability they have. According to the wiki, those thrall’s use Frenzies. This means that they have quickness. This means that they attack twice as fast, so their skill loading time is very short, too short for you skill to prevent the attack with evasion.

The positive thing however is that Frenzy also means they take 50% more damage, making it so you don’t have to hit him as much.

Ye, If in the filter the word Tyr would be considered faul language, then it would be replaced with kitten. This however also works when it shouldn’t. for example if I would be writting bout a Tyranosaurus (and Tyr still would be considered a faul word), it would show up as kittenanosaurus.

Nope, you can’t tranfer characters to a different account. If you are keylogged (hacked) make sure your computer is clean (unplug the internet, reinstall windows, get virusscanner working, plugin internet, update virusscanner and windows and then start doing the rest of the instalation).

To get full access to your account make a support ticket at https://en.support.guildwars2.com/

They can investigate the matter, give you full control of your account back, and in many cases, restore your account to a situation before the hack.

ALWAYS REPORT TO SUPPORT IF YOUR HACKED (sorry for caps). hacked accounts are used for botting and gold selling wich are imo the greatest dissease in MMO’s. By reporting it to support you get your account back and another bot is taken out of the game.

You almost got it.
A transmutation stone gives you the possibility to mix aspects of 2 armor pieces, the outcome is always one piece (so you put the skin of the old armor on the stats of the new armor, the old armorpiece will be gone). Best is to watch this video where it is explained with the interface:

This can’t be answered cause the mechanics behind the anti-farming code are a secret. The bots can also read this forum. The basic rule is that if you act as a real player, you will never see this.

What I am saying is that if you see your drops decreasing in value and quality, it is time to move to doing a different activity untill you see the drops going up again.

afaik logging out or changing zone doesn’t reset the zone (for a bot-programmer it would be too easy) so you really need to have done something else (instead opf repeating the same DE, go farm a few dozen gathering nodes for example).

To be honest I know the anti farming code exist, but I have never had the privalege to encounter it. That is the main reason for not going deeper into this matter.
I’m not accusing you of anything, but botters can read this as well, and I just don’t see that players have the need of changing what they are doing, afaik, the code is working for the right things (besides dungeons) for 99% of the time. If you are a real heavy grinder (not my cup of tea, but there is nothing wrong with it either), make sure that in every area you have 2-3 different kind of grinds, so you can always switch if you see the code gets active. Openly discussing it here means we are also making the bots wiser. And when the bots can counteract the code, the code prolly will get more strict, meaning more regular players will have problems with it.

As for the last three lines:

Does the anti-bot code affect the quality/quantity of items in chests? -Yes, but not acitvly, chests have a low respawn rate meaning it is prolly impossible to get hit by the code.

Are WvW maps affected by the anti-bot code? – the PvE-aspects of it are (so killing the same npc mob over and over could trigger the code), but not when it comes to killing human foes
Would Badges of Honor drops be less frequent if I played WvW too long? Nope, see the asnwers to the above two answers. They drop from players and from chests.-

When you get the item, you can put the skin on your curretn armor. If you want to put it on other armorsets in the future you need to use a transmutation stone (till level 79, basis, afterwards fine). You get a lot if you complete area’s to 100% but if thats not your thing, you can get them as well for gems.

Ye, as above. Engineers are as a class very versatile. Where the warrior focusses mostly on damage, the engineer can be very good at party wide healing (elixer-gun, healing turret, med-kit, supply crate), Scattering of foes (turrets), disabling of foes (knockbacks, net, etc), and still deal a very good punch (flamethrower, grenadekit).

Specially against melee I can use my riffle to keep melee out of melee range, while I keep putting my bullets in them (where as a warrior can punch harder, but gets the beating back as well). If the melee gets into range, I got a surprise for them, in an instant I get my flamethrower out and they are surrounded by fire and burning effects.

The only real trouble I have with my engineer is dealing with heavy condition area’s, but the elixergun is pretty good at getting the conditions off (I just don’t fancy it, so if I can prevent using it I stay away from that gun).

Well, the wiki is actually saying it.‘PvP Ascalonian Leather armor is a PvP reward of unknown origin. It most likely drops from high ranking reward chests, or is crafted at the Mystic Forge using high rank animal tokens.’

So the real origin is currently unknown, but it is expected by the community to be a high level reward for doing pvp. It is likely that not enough people are high level enough to have acutal conclusive data on how to obtain it. The best thing you should do is to keep on playing sPvP and gain rank cause it is very likely you need to do that to get it. Keep following this forum and other sources like the wiki-page for updates bout how to obtain it.

What bluestone said the last time. Some elite exotic armors are sharing the same icon as a level one white coloured armor. The best way to know what your buying atm is the name of the armor, but also that is decieving sometimes (e.g. armor sets sharing the same name, or sets that are called leather in PvP but duelist in PvE.

Like being said, the best thing would and should be a preview function, but if that proofs too difficult due to API’s I would recommend to change armor names so pvp and pve armors share their name based on the skin and every armor piece with the a certain skin would be having the same name (without the the prefix and post fix, so e.g. beserker (name ) of trollslaying, would only have the (name) the same with other armors with the same skin. I know it is more boring, but it would solve a lot of problems.

Yes it is, just check the tradepost. people are getting the precursors so it is working as intended.

Make sure you are putting in the right kind of weapon. For Dawn/Dusk all 4 weapons need to be greatswords with a minimum required level of 76 or higher and rare or exotic. For the rest pray to the 6 gods, the spirits of the wild, the mother tree and the greater alchemy all at the same time to be lucky.

(There might always be a change the Charr where right when they decided that there are no Gods, wich would mean it would be better to just not pray at all).

My first advise is to start your character on a different server. You can start playing and leveling. From the character select screen you can change your server at any time (process takes bout 5 minutes).

Like Shooopa said, the best change is on very odd times. Keep in mind that this server has a lot of players from the American-continents, but also from Australia and surrounding (according to http://www.gw2guilds.org/guilds/us/isle-of-janthir ). So my advise is to check somewhere round 6-7 am pacific time, the Australians will be statrting to go to bed, while it is still reasonable early on the east-coast, leaving only the African continent (EU players are mostly on EU-servers).

It can be that this server is so busy your not getting through anytime of the day/week. then the only solution is to ask to join you on a different server.

There are regular bags that function the same as normal bags and there are special kinds, used to ‘hide’ things from merchants and the deposit all collectibles and sell junk option.

I use one of those for two reasons.
1: to not accidently sell the weapons not currently equiped (im engineer with primairly using a riffle, so in that bag is a shield and two pistols)
2: to store two miniatures (they are collectable, and go to the bank everytime I use the deposit all collectables when they are in a normal bag).

So it looks like you are using the wrong kind of bag, one of them is good to have, but not all. My advise is to sell the others on the tp and use the profits to buy/make regular ones. the special ones are generally worth more then the regular ones so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem to switch.

The reason is that they have mined the gw.dat file. dat-file mining means they are using developpertools to read what is inside the file. Cause all weapons and skins are stored in that file (among many other things), you can use that file to see all possible weapons. So yes it is pretty certain that at this moment all legendary recipes are discovered, but no it is not so romantic as standing at the forge for hours and hours trying all different combinations.

Are you by any change using a nvdea GT-series videocard on a windows 32 bits system?
If so, this is a known issue and Arenanet is trying to resolve this. I actually reinstalled windows to a 64 bits version last sunday to get rid of it and it solved everything.

@mkeiichi: I think that advertising in chat is the worsed way of trying to build a guild. You are wasting your own time and are annoying others. Better imo is it to just play the game, and socialise to find friends in the game (specially those without guildtags, but not exclusivly).

I would agree to have a more structured way to advertise and recruit but I’m more thinking in line of a bulletin board in the major hubs (main towns, outposts like e.g. Fort trinity or the WvW spawning area and dungeon entrances). Guilds can operate from the guildroster what the advertising line is, and on wich boards they want to advertise (it’s a free service, but advertisement can be further pimped with influence). When someone reads you text and wants to join he can do from the board. the officers with recruitment rights in the guild will all get ‘!’ in their guild icon in the top left and when they press ‘g’ a message pops over it with a single click to recruit button, a pm-button or a decline button. as soon as an officer clicks one of those buttons, the message goes away for all officers (to prevent one officers pm-ing and the other already inviting).

Number 1 skill ele with staff = 1 second loading time
Number 1 skill ele with dagger = 0.5 seconds loading time

in other words, the amount of damage/attack might be less, but you can make more attackes/second

This is currently the case yes. but that doesn’t mean that in time you can’t get a good large guild running.
Just know there is no easy quick way of doing so. but there are some ways.
1: understand it takes a lot of time and time investments to start and lead a guild succesfully, being a good leader that listens to his members needs is essential.
2: make sure you provide something that is unique but also very general appealing.
3: be very happy if you grow 5 active members/month (and don’t count those that leaves within a few days after joining)

Reading things like this really makes me hope that Arenanet isn’t giving up on the guesting services, this proves that we need it desperatly

(for those who don’t know, guesting is a service wich was active in the beta, where you could form a party with someone on a different server and join in on their server (like you now can join in an overflow-map). This system was bugged at the start and is the main reason (I think) that world transfer is still free. Although it doesn’t help you and your friend right now, I do hope there will be a permanent solution soon.

This is a topic that pops up every now and then. The short asnwer is that you are missing something, for the longer answer I quote myself from a previous post (this person was missing a poI):

I think there is a 99% change you have missed something. Keep in mind that Claw island has to be done (so if you didn’t do your personal story that might be the case). Ohterwise use this list and make sure you visit every area (thinking your sure you finished it isn’t enough) and press m to check if it is saying 100%, also check the list of PoI, WP, Vista’s, SC’s and hearts manually if all are completed.

as AW said, do not take it personal. unfortunally we are a community of people and even from the good of heart, people make sometimes the mistake to misinterpetate what happened (not saying that that is the case here).

As an example I use the original GW1 wiki. If you unlock a skill at the end of prophecy’s, that skill could also be bought at the first skilltrainer in prophecy’s on a different character on your account. So on the GW1 wiki, bout atleast once per week, someone not knowing bout this, updated a skillpage, making a false report on the acquisation.

Thats why an important rule is to give a screenshot or it didn’t happen.
The reason I am sceptical bout your reward is that legendary weapons do exist, and are confirmed by the devs. I have heard bout the red-armor, but afaik the general opinion is that it is a glitch (simular to the fact that stats on your equipped armor sometimes are showing totally different stats for totally different armor, reloading ‘h’ solves that.

This can indeed also happen with drops. It might be future content that already have a reserved slot, or content that was abbanded before release but still have the item-id in the database and so a change to be seen through such a glitch.

So without a screenshot I have to conclude that you saw a glitch and not a real drop. Con clusion: legendary armor-pieces are currently not present in the game.

I don’t want to sound rude, but if your server is getting deserted, why not transfer yourself??

I am personally very happy at my current server and it is very active and I never feel lonely. It was a bit expected that after the first few weeks where gone that the game would loose some of its momentum. It is good to see that most servers are still doing very good, but it looks like some are being the victum of this. I like the fact that your fighting for your server, but I hardly think that this will plee will attrack more people (why should I leave everything behind I have on my current server to a server wich is, according to your own words, on the brink of being extinged?)

I do hope that Arenanet will not keep servers open for the sake of keeping them open and have a good merge/recreate policy.

With that I am saying that there are mmo’s (lotro is one I know) that keep servers running for the sole reason that in their opinion, closing a server means that they are admitting they are loosing popularity. I know Anet as a company that always have done things ikn their own way without fear of the competition. So if a server is getting a too low population, merge them with another low server. If too many servers are getting full again, recreate servers.

I do understand however that they want to see how many people are going to come back specially for Halloween..

What Blueroseknight said. We jsut have to wait and see. Better is to wait for the event and then ask again. If they are putting pumpking pies in, like in gw1, that give a boost they prolly limit aquisition to the event duration but for everything else we don’t know zip. For the finale they can do something simular to the gw1 finale, but then again ,the can also letmad king thorn’s gigantic dragon rise from old lion’s arch and land on central plaza to have an epic battle inside of LA.

I have changed colour and transmutated cultural armor many times without problems. So it looks like you hit a bug.

My advise is to do one of the following
a: reboot the game
b: reboot the game without the armor equiped buit in your inventory
c: reboot the game with the armor in your account vault (even if it is soulbound, if I’m right you can still store it there)
d: if all fails, then transmutate the armor again.

What Light said is all true, but to add on, if your transferring server for WvW completion, you have to wait for the next match to start (I dunno when that happens, but I think it happens once per week), by that time your new server will have a different borde rmap and a different color….

Short answer: There is no powerleveling.

Longer answer is that (although you don’t want to hear it) you should really play the game. A good amount of people run out of things to do when they hit level 80 cause they where too much focused on that number. The game doesn’t change at level 80 and you won’t be doing different things all of a sudden. In this game it is really just a number.

Secondly, the game is free of monthly fees, so feel free to quit and come back whenever you want. I have seen in GW1 that there where always a good amount of people leveling characters and working them throught the game, even after 7 years.

Thridly, after hearing my speeches, the best way to level is to do the regular things, but always make sure you are doing thing intended for higher level character (the trick is to find a good balance, it depends on your play style, your armor level and the amount of control you have over your character, how much further ahead you can go, off course teaming up with other players make a lot of difference (the other day I helped a level 48 character do the personal story retribution wich is ment for level 59, off course the main difference was that we had two level 58’s in the party and a level 76 and a level 80…

Arenanet said that if a name was improper, you can always file a ticket at support to ask for the reason. So my advise is to do so and ask them. I personally see not a lot wrong, but like being said, it can be the word Ho or parts of the word that have some bad meaning in a different language, so ask them, and if they don’t have a good reason I’m sure you can still get your name.

I know from a certain youtube video they will always answer. (the video was bout a name used to promote the size of a certain male body part, the reply was imo hilarious: ‘deceiving advertising’ )

First off all, the miniatures can (almost exclusivly) only be achieved when your character gets 1 years old. so beside some ultra ultra rare drops in specifick area’s and the expensive balck moa chick, almost all other miniatures are only available when your character turns 1 years old.

From your post I understand that you currently have 29/30 and 7/8 in the devotion statue. This means that you very likely have other points that are easier to get. You might want to go to your HoM, press save and share to copy the link and then post it here (that way we don’t know you charactername wich is a GW1 security detail, but we can see what other progress you have). The reason I’m asking it is cause you seem to be missing something else that is easier to get then 7 more miniatures but I can’t wrap my finger round it with the limited info you have and I might be wrong.

If however you want to stick to your original plan, you might want to use the halloween event finale to try and trade. Festival finales always had a lot of returning players, and I expect that this will be the same this year. so a lot of people will be logging in for the first time since months and will see some characters with birthday-presents. So in short, advertising that you want to buy in e.g. Kamadan is a very good time then.

if you have all 6 you get 165 more power, + 15% bruning duration, + 5% change to gain vigot and + 5% change to cause the fire nova.

(so yeah they add up)
keep in mind this is max stat (when your doing things on your level or above your level) when downgraded, all effects will be downgraded as well.

Yes it is possible to get 100%. From the wiki: “Magic find is an attribute that increases a player’s chance to receive rare loot from drops.”

So if you have a basic change of 1 out of 10 to get a rare item, + 100% magic find will make that a change of 2 out of 10. As far as we know there is no hard cap, just a limitation due to the fact that the amount of available sources for more mf are limiting the max. (even with all weapons, armor and jewels, guild MF-effect and consumable), the amount is not endless.

My second character is Virgil and there I agree with you all. However, my first character was in the durman priory and you get stuck with the overexcited -‘look here i can fly an your not’ – Magister Sieran. I was really happy when she killed herself.

rainbowstylin summed it up pretty good. The dual wield skill (Death blossom), are three rapid attacks: main – off – main, so for the first and the last hit the main hand stats are used and for the second the offhand stats.

I think your at the right spot, but that those researchers are already freed. Keep in mind that sometimes events can get stuck (in this case, that not enough freed researchers are being registerd as freed and the event can not be completed. Unfortuanally, if this is the case you have to wait for an update for it to get unstuck.

Ascalonian Catacombs is the first but imo not the easiest. The Caudicus’s Manor has the same difficulty level when it comes to fights, but is a lot shorter. If pugging, the best way is to stand at the dungeon entrance. One spam in map and after that spam in local. If you find it hard to find a group, you might want to spam in mapchat in LA. It differs a bit per server.

I think its a wonderfull good idea to have some high level, bad kitten bosses that needs a little bit of thinking how to approach them instead of bring whatever you got and hack and slash.

However, I dunno how it is on your server, but on mine, the bosses you are referrinf to are going done so fast it doesn’t really matter, make sure you got a few hits, close your eyes, and you get goldreward and you can open the chest. The scaling is imo totally wrong and they should make those fights harder instead of easier.

As you said, there is not refund and no way to get it unbound so you might want to salvage it instead of deleting it to get a litle bit out of it. But my advise would be to keep it in storage and use it if you find the need to use different stats (runes or sigils). You might not yet have had the wish to have different runes in certain situations, but you might in the future (for example, when fighting the firegolem in Sorrow’s I would like to have 2 superior sigils of melandru to have less conditionduration on me).
