Rangers are great for theose players who want to play things save. thge balance between survivability and damage is very good. For the more competitive player (either in PvP or in being good at a certain pve aspect) it lacks versatility.
The best results can be reached imo with the oddballs. in PvP that would be the thief and the mesmer, and in PvE the engineer and the ele. They are all harder to play and not as straight forward as the ranger. but they can be much more fine tuned to your needs.

@Blude
I agree that not everyone in the world has social skills, but when it comes to being dead, I never had any issues in the really akward situations. I have been dead in hard to get places surrounded by several veterans and adds. I totally understand that it is hard to get me out of it. I swear and swallow my pirde then and go to a waypoint. But I always have been in exotic places, where I wasn’t around an enemy, and I asked kindly in mapchat and someone who was near came to me and ressed me. I had that today in the hidden garden jumple puzzle (mount maelstrom). The person who ressed me was even kind enough tgo whisper me, to explain i was on the other side of the map. he ressed me after bout 5 minutes and then we helped each other to finish the jumpinmg puzzle.
Like I said in my initial post. when talking in map chat, yo unever know who is listening, and beside sexual preferences (wich has nothing to do with this imo), some people are (thinking bout them as) hardcore gamers, some people don’t realise we are not really npc’s and some are just acting as if they are as stupid and anti-social as the hairs on a pigg’s butt.
Keep that in mind when talking into map chat and keep your own polite values, you will harvest more friends then you get rude comments. Thats a promise.

Someone nicked those fancy goggles on Gandarra too I’m afraid. -snif-
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I’m from Europe, and am neither straight nor LBGT (I strongly believe that love has nothing to do with categorising). I do however understand that in many country’s being openly LBGT means that you are socially ignored. GW2 is no difference. Keep also in mind that many players are underage and have a different from adult viewpoint here.
Personally I would prefer to have a guild where you can openly be GLBT, and don’t be that openly in mapchat. Acceptance from friends is way more important to me then childish language from not understanding minors.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Short answer: No
Longer answer: upgrades and influence are server-bound, though you won’t actually loose it, the upgrades and influence will remain on the old server and you start at zero.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Try exploring (view all vista’s, visit all Points of interest and unlock all waypoints) in your home town (rata sum). You can also use the the portal to lion’s arch and do the same thing. If needed from lion’s arch you can also travel to the other races home towns, to do the same there. Last off all, if you still need more xp, you can also travel to the starting zones for the other 4 races.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
almost everything you do in the game grants experience.
At your level I would go to you starter town and visit all the points of interest, waypoints and vista’s. If you repeat that for all starter towns you’ll get to level 17 pretty soon.
This is however very boring and your not fighting things. So you friend is right, doing things like filling in the hearts is very good.
You can also craft or play pvp-formats to level up. The beauty bout this game is that you can do whatever you want. the downside of this is that the game won’t tell you what to do either. So start doing things and you will level.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
It is both. The game is designed to have a starter area for every race. The next level area has only 4 area’s. After that you are further ‘limited’ to two area’s.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I think I agree that the personalisation wich is import to call it home, isn’t working properly. I expected more from it too. I do hope that Arenanet is doing more with it in the near future.
A few suggestions: Add changes to the zone throught the gemstore (example certain flowers for the asura one, and certain banners (with your own design?) for the human one)
Also add some things you can get ingame by doing scavenger hunts. For example a black lion trade post or a crafting station. Make it difficult enough to be challenging, but interesting enough for people who want it, to get it.
At a room of achievements to it like the HoM in GW1.
Last of all, make it easier to return home by adding a travel button to your personal story tab in ‘h’ (much like the travel to the heart of the mist button in sPvP window). I know this would mean people could travel to their home town for free, but this is already the case through lion’s arch.
Just my thoughts off course.

I really love the character Elli:
Agent Zott: ‘Greetings, Commander! I’m sure you remember me, Zott, master of auxpex enchantments and ocular devices. We met at Claw Island, and —’
Elli: ’ Ahem! Ahem, ahem. AHEM, you toddling ninny-bucket!’
Agent Zott: ’ Yes, yes. This is Elli, my adjunct. Loathe as I am to admit it, she is an expert on holomancy.’
Elli: ‘Adjunct? You wish, stuffy britches. Trahearne said I’m your partner. Nice to see you, Commander. Get ready for some fun!’
Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: ‘Now, it’s a waiting game. We’ll meet at the staging grounds when our scouts tell us a ship’s been sighted. Until then — dismissed.’
Elli: ‘So, Zotty…having trouble with the occlusion interface? I could help you study up on it over a nice bottle of tooromba cider.’
Agent Zott:’ “Sutdy up on it”?! I—you—I mean—hands to yourself, holomancer! And don’t call me Zotty. It’s embarrassing.’
Elli: ‘Aw, you’re absolutely adorable when you’re flustered. Shame it doesn’t happen more often.’

Dragon’s spawn on different times on each server. The reason is that there is a cooldown period that starts after defeating a dragon (and some servers do the shatterer and pre-events quicker then others), then there is a spawning window. in this window at a random moment the pre-events will start.
So in short, there is always atleast one dragon up on atleast one server and there is no way to prevent that. A 30 minute warning might sound great, but after an update the timers are reset. So you still have the same situation (dragon will spawn in 25 minutes, -plop- you get message of new build and reboot in 30 minutes, everone curses cause they won’t finish the dragon in 30 minutes.).
Updates are needed and even resetting timers and zones are needed. So take it as something that can’t be fixed. If it is gamebreaking for you, then consider not playing an mmo.

Have a lvl80 guardian that I don't really like, want to level a toon but have no motivation
Posted by: mercury ranique.2170
80 isn’t a magic number that suddenly makes you all more powerfull. for doing dungeons explorable mode, pugs might ask you to be level 80, this isn’t true for storymode, WvW can be very succesfully done from level 20 and upwards with not a lot of difference.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Yeah, to prevent loosing trophy’s needed for hearts, it’s best to not sell them when filling a heart. Personally I always like to see what the heartsgiver is selling for karma when it is filled, then it is a easy click to clean up inventory by selling stuff.

Question one you should ask yourself is if you want a legendary. Even with this part done it requires a huge amount of resources and therefore dedication to the game. If you played other games before you should be able to know how long you can stay dedicated.
Question two you should ask your self is if you need a legendary greatsword (my mains are an ele and an engineer, both don’t use greatswords). Personally I would make a legendary weapon I would use a lot.
If you want a legendary greatsword I would say to keep it. If not sell it and use the money for whatever else you want.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
First off all, don’t take topics on a forum too serious when it comes to judging the game. Second off all, best is to just give things a good try.
The main difference between ranger and thief is the range. Where a ranger is designed for long range, but can be excellent on melee range, the thief is designed to be melee range but can be excellent on long range.
The other difference is that ranger is easier to play excellent but the thief can do more when played excellent (so you have to make it successfull, but if you do you outclass the ranger).
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I see, still the description is faulty : it sais “Reflect incoming damage back to the source” while in truth it should be “Inflicts damage back when hit”.
I disagree, incomming damage ins’t incomming damage if it isn’t hitting (no hit means no damage). So this description is actually right. You make an attack the same as damage.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Huh? Wa? Where??
This is the players helping players section. I understand that your talking bout legendary weapons. but Idon’t really see a questionmark in your post, and can’t make heads or tails.
I suspect you are explaining that legendary weapons cost a lot of resources wich can be obtained by farming (grinding) the game) or skip some parts of it by paying for gems. This is very true. I know people already got a legendary weapon. Personally I find the way those people tackle the game a bit odd. They either had to pay a lot of real money to get the ingredients, or grind for almost 16 hours per day (or use illegal methods). I am working my way to the legendary weapon slowly and mainly by just playing the game and helping others and enjoying it. The weapon is in my opinion a trophy you get at the end of a journey, but the journey itself should be the real reward.
No offense to the people who did it/are doing it differently. Everyone who wants it should do it the way they want. I have played GW1 for many years and am going to play gw2 for many years as well.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
And I am sure during GW2 development, ArenaNet stated accounts made after GW2’s release date will not be able to accumulate points for rewards in GW2.
Now, here is the question: Is this true?
Nope, this sin’t true, and Anet never said that. Before there was an official statement, people where saying this would be the case and thats why this myth exist.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
The most part of the event can be accessed from every where in the game by stepping through a hunted door.The special halloween dungeon can be accessed from lion’s arch (go to your racial home town, and use the asuraportal that goes to Lions Arch).
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
No profession is Op, but there are some that are easier to play (and considered more boring). Personally I don’t understand why playing the easy way would be more fun. The hardest two classes are the engineer and the elementalist. Therefore they also have the potential to be excelling and being versatile if your good at gaming. The two easiest professions are considered by many the warrior and the ranger. It is one of the reasons I never tried warrior. I am trying the ranger, it is very easy and to make it interesting for myself I am using a greatsword as much as possible.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
You can’t reset them. I don’t know why you would want that either.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
press ‘h’, go to achievements. In the top left corner there is a dropdown menu showing your (wearable titles), slecet the one you want to show below your name.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Yeah, very likely the .dat-file.
Go to program files (or program files x86) on your c-drive. Open the folder Guildwars 2. delete the file gw2.dat and reboot the game. The game client will start downloading the entire game again (so if you plan on doing the special event in a few hours in lions arch you might want to wait) but afterwards it should work again.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
To add to the above. not only find out what you want to be good at, but also join a guild that is good at that aspect of the game. make sure they understand that you have to learn a lot but that you are willing to learn. Also make sure they have a voice over IP program. Nothing beats explaining things then being able to talk to someone.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
First off all, you are describing the same problem I had when I was playing my ele. There are a few things to consider.
1: AoE vs single target. Although AoE is very nice to damage a large group at the same time, it isn’t always the best one. Considering switching to single target damage and specially condition damage.. Each member of a mob is dealing damage. so lets say there are 10 foes, each dealing one damage/sec. so if you use AoE damage to kill them all off at the same time, you get 10 damage/sec during the whole fight. However, if you kill half of them with single target skills you reduce it to 5 damage/sec.
Another consideration is how to trait. a defensive traiting is a great way for getting the job done.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
there is not a way to do this yourself. Only other party members can do so.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Hi, First off all, I’m sorry I can’t help you. I got it too busy already in the game. You might want to give some more information bout you, specially the times you can play (and the timezone)
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
the entrance is via an underwater tunnel thats right by the truffle heart vender to the southwest
This:
jump in the pool of water the heart-vendor is standing next to and dive down.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
there are others.
I’m not really into this, but my guildmate was running with a focus today, that left a blue trail behind, dunno the name and didn’t ask, but it looked like a steam focus (charr design)
I know it wasn’t a legendary weapon. Hopefully others can tell you more details, but just wanted to let you know they exist.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Yeah, Warrior or ranger.
They are both very durable and forgiving. Warrior the most of them, but it requires close combat wich is more tense for the fainthearted people. Ranger requires a bit more reflexes, but you will be a bit more away from the heat.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
To all who said things above.
The first three points are awarded for everyone who played GW1. There is NO need to own EoTN or to have visited the HoM ever. I have tested this myself and several others. The HoM calculator is saying it right.
The total max amount of HoM points you can get without owning Eye of the north (prophecy’s will be required though) is 8 points.
3 points for account creation
2 points for any statue in honor
3 points for 5 statues in honour.
The statues you can ‘display’ without owning Eye of the North or visiting the Hall of monuments are:
- Eternal defender of ascalon (get level 20 without leaving pre)
- party title max
- drunken title max
- sweet title max
- survivor title max
All those can be reached without leaving presearing and be added to the hall from there. But they are all very time consuming and not very relevant for starting players.
@Auesis. pls take some time to understand how things work before posting. You are confusing ShadowSong like hell with totally wrong assumptions. beside that you where proposing a very long way to get to 6 points. I understand that your trying to be helpfull, but this way you are not.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I played an ele to level 55 or so in bout 3 weeks. Then I decided to start an engineer and really liked it, she got lvl 80 now 1,5 week ago (took me bout 5 weeks or so) and today I pstarted to pick up the ele again
lvl 80 in this game is just a number. In most game it is required to do the really fancy stuff, but i nthis game due to the downscaling the difference is so small it doesn’t really matter.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
@Auesis,
You are not right. For the base three points you only need a campaign. No visit to the Eye of the north is required. See http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=main&details=AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA&todo=AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA This is my second account that is used for storage and only has access to factions.
@ShadowSong,
Any of the three campaigns will do (so not the expansion Eye of the North). Make an account, create a character, close the game. Link the accounts and you got the first 3 pieces.
To get the other 3 pieces of heritage armor that Auesis was talking bout you also need the expansion Eye of the North. But finishing a campaign is actually the long way.
The fastest way to do this would be getting factions and Eye of the North (expansion).
it basicly works the same for the ohter two campaigns, just takes longer.
1: make a character and level it up to level 10 (in factions this takes bout an hour). Make sure you pick ranger as your primairy or secondairy profession
2: make your way to the port town (kaineng center), accept the quest to travel to Eye of the North and do that till you are in the Hall of Monuments (unlocking 3 hero’s on the way as well as getting a tapestry.
3: display this tapestry at the monument of fellowship
4: continue leveling up till level 20 (another two hours of playing)
5: go to the great temple of balthazar and talk to the high priest Zhang. Although nothing happens, you get 50 tournament points. Go to Tolkano (same area) and use the points to get 10 zaishen keys and sell these to other players (for 6 platinum each, so 60 platinum in total)
6: make a second PvP-only character, go to the Zaishen menagery, and release the lvl 20 wolf.
7: bring your (normal) character to the zaishen menagery and charm the animal using the skill charm animal.
8: use your 60 platinum to buy the following three things from another player.
a: tapestry (about 8 platinum)
b: white miniature (undedicated) (about 15 platinum)
c: deldrimor armor remnant (about 30 platinum)
8: travel to the eye of the north again, and use henchman to get to Gunnar’s hold (follow the first part of the quest Northern Allies (tracking the nornbear)for directions) and talk to gunnar poundfist. get one of the three heroes a new armor.
9: go back to the hall of monuments, display the second tapestry on the monument of fellowship. Put the undedicated miniature on display at the devotion monument and the hero you got armor for and the wolf at the monument of felllowship.
You now got 6 points. make sure you link your accounts and go to the hall of monuments in GW2 to get your full armor set. Total amount of work I think is 5-6 hours, depending how long it takes to buy the things you need.

Contested means there is an event going on there and therefore it is not safe to travel there. The only way to make it uncontested is to participate in the event (so walk there). If the dynamic event fails, another event will start right away to undo the failure. in general those events are made so easy that you can’t fail (the npc’s can do it by themself).
So far how it should work. There are however some bugged events. In those situations the waypoint is still contested even though the event finished or got stuck. These situations are usual resolved when the server restarts (due to an update). Some waypoints are getting bugged very easy however and therefor are contested almost always.

I’m on Gandara, although I don’t know the age of people (besides the most in my guild), the chat is most of the times pretty mature and not a lot of childish flame fights going on in mapchat. The server also focusses on most aspects of the game (a stable WvW population, enough dungeon party’s forming, but also a good amount of people just questing and de-ing.

Isn’t that the same skin as Grenth’s Tear?

I think you mean the vista above the mystic forge (on the map very near to the waypoint at the bank).
It is also at the start of a jumping puzzle. So the first 1 minute 45 seconds of this video will show you:

@FolsomBob,
Are you sure those are all vista’s in metrica. The silvar starting area is pretty close so you might be mistaken one of those as one in metrica.
It is also possible that one didn’t register. Best is to all visit them again (that way you know for certain they are all in metrica) and rewatch the video. That way, if there is one buigged it should register after all.

Up to you, Every class can be combined with every race. If you are into roleplaying it is possible to make a background for every combo and the racial skills for Asura work good on very class.

First off all it is only possible to play single notes so no chords, so it will be hard to reproduce any piece that is using chords. for the rest you only need to get the sheet music of that song, and learn wich skill is wich note (they are in a normal sequence)

3=e
4=f
5=g
6=a
7=b

Arenanet doesn’t ban for recieving gold. it bans when they have solid proof it is a gold seller. So recieving gold from someone you know, team up with in party’s, be in the same guild, be in each others friendslist would be no problem at all.
Keep in mind they can see everything you do in the game and will use that to judge you for being bad or good.

I dop think it is not sutck but that you are missing some (2) bits
The repair merchant is in a cave. the entrance is near mountain’s tail waypoint. (go into the caves there and turn left). It is however near a waypoint in the cave and where a waypoint is.
The area’s yo uar elooking for are area’s not needed for map completion (guessing you did 100% map completion on all maps). Very likely things your missing are jumping puzzle area’s or fogged parts of the map where nothing is. My advise would be to make sure you got 100% map completion and you visited each of the jumping puzzles.

dyes drop from foes as an unidentified dye, after double clicking it you get a random dye colour. Then you can choose to double click it again to use it on that character or give it to another character on your account (through the bank) or sell it. When selling keep in mind that unidentified dyes are worth a lot more than most regular dyes (but you won’t know what you are selling and if you can use it yourself).
Every character starts with a cetrain basic amount of dyes, wich is expanded with the unlocked ones (like described above). To use them press ‘H’ and then press the small pipette (in most graphic programs called colour picker). next to your armour pieces you see some blocks with the current colours, in the colom to the left you see all coulours you have unlocked. your mouse turned into the pipette. Click in the left colom the colour you want, then apply it to the armour piece you want. check the result in the preview part of the window. You can use and reuse all unlocked colours, so don’t worry to experiement till you find the combination you like.

A few small bits of advice for you as a WoW player. Though solar summed up the best way to compare WoW classes with GW2 classes, that is mainly bout general game mechanic (weapons, skill kinds, etc). The reaso nI’m saying this is that GW2 doesn’t use the trinity (tank, dps, healer roles in a party) So every class is responsable for their own amount of damage, healing and tanking. You might have a warrior or guardian with you to tank a bit for you, but a good amount of agro will start attacking you. So cooperating is very good in this game. but you can’t just fill in a role. That makes e.g. the ele very squishy and offers in the end a totally different experience to the shaman, even if the general mechanics of the class are the same. (in other words, classes can be compared, but the world is different)
