There is an IMMENSE disparity between pve and pvp.
PvE get huge updates with new content all the time for free.
PvP has been neglected and even had stuff removed!
Now there is new feature custom arena… and you buy it with gems, and you have to pay monthly with gems, and gems are great for people who can get them for in game gold… OH WAIT A SECOND PVPERS CAN’T MAKE GOLD

So this is a PVP FEATURE that is FREE FOR PVERS and pvpers have to PAY IRL MONEY to use it…
And ppl go on and on about how it’s ok to pay money for features and pvers can’t hear any of us over the sound of all their gold → gems conversion for new character slots.

So here we are...

I EXPECT that major game features are not behind a paywall.
I EXPECT that the game’s core pvp functionality not be reserved for pvers.
I EXPECT a viable alternative that allows pvpers the ability to have access to CA WITHOUT spending money or waste time in pve.

I expect a game not to try so hard to make me dislike it but kitten is it doing a good job.

Gem store should be for cosmetics. There are SO MANY better ways to offer customers interesting products that don’t make pvp community feel left out.

keep in mind if pvp makes them more money it gives more incentive for Anet to support it. that is just how the world works it takes money to make things happen, believe it or not those people who work on making content for this game like a thing we call food and shelter

Believe me gw1 devs were not homeless guys…and they still didn’t ask for a single dollar outside game’s price…and dear god pvp was 10 times better than here…

times have changes and GW1 was not really an mmo, it felt more like an ARPG while mmo’s cost more to make and have more fierce competition with other mmo’s.

I agree you should be able to pay for custom arenas through only pvp play BUT you have to realize the devs need to eat and a lot of that comes from in game purchases which sPvP players dont have to make at the moment.

People keep posting this, but I don’t think they have any idea what they’re talking about. Not a single one of you know how much money anet makes, or spends, or needs. Businesses don’t seek to make just enough money to pay their employees, they try to make as much money as possible. We have not a single clue how much these custom arenas are actually costing anet, and my somewhat-educated bet is very little in the grand scheme of things. People really need to stop drinking the anet kool-aid and actually think for a second. These are not servers like you would expect in some other game. You are paying for the privilege of playing against your friends, like any other mmorpg game would give to you as a basic feature. How can you customize your arena? Adjusting some numbers? Change the map? Kick people? All things that are trivial to alter for anet, and don’t actually cost them any resources.

if you have guild members that pitch in and that do PvE it can be quite easy to fund.

we can’t level our characters or gain any outside-pvp rewards in heart of the mists, but we are expected to have to go pve just to pay to have the privilege to play against our friends?

i dun see any problem here, there is a lot of info on the web previewing the upcoming changes, especially about necro… last “state of the game” too gave us info. the reason is simply put, “profession balance,” and “a varied meta,” avoiding any pigeon holes to the way we trait or equip. i don’t think there is any contradiction with the previous vision of how the company views class roles/way to play, just, the traits needed revamping, and devs r advancing that priority in our most recent patch.

if your wondering, it will lead to A. players who learn and adapt and help the meta to plateau and B. the player base that will leave a meta they see that wont plateau. kind of a catch 22

You have to look at it from there point of view. How do we know they will extend in future. How much can we save by letting others take over that server. Etc.
Servers are pretty costly to maintain hence why they make you pay gems for it.

Doesn’t that just mean that the whole process will be delayed until the Living World rolls around to it? I don’t see how or why the Living World has to interface with the existing dungeons at all: I don’t think you’ll get many people complaining if they are updated as if by magic because they’re part of another story/content that’s outside of the “story” altogether.

Yeah I mean for me personally I give zero kittens if the changes to dungeons have in game explanations or not. Immersion is pointless in an MMO, I know I’m playing a video game. Hell, trait changes come from the sky and no one complains about that. So do updates to the gem store, and bugfixes to events and personal story.

If Colin and team are all of a sudden worried about immersion in the game, how about making it so that NPCs recognize me as Warmaster of the Vigil and Slayer of Zhaitan?

Just fix the dungeons, make the dungeons better, and make the rewards better, preferably in that order. Who cares “why” it happens?

existing players are put on hold as they develop a new update (and accompanying promotional material across a wide range of online publications and blogs) to draw in new people and new sales and people who had left the game previously. naturally, with these new arrivals there needs to be a new showcase item in the gemstore (limited time only!!! get it now or you’ll forever regret it!!) to show off.

that is why the content is so shallow and boring past the first 30 minutes. they are primarily manufacturing hype, not long term content.

also, don’t post reply about how we don’t pay a sub so we should just deal with it. i’m not buying it.

the posters talking about how we can have 90% development on pve and still be esport are naive. the pve is catering to casual gamers in every respect (whole other post needed for that). these fundamental game mechanics that underpin the pve aspect don’t magically disappear or become “competitive” because you want them to.

it is an enormous “wtf?” that we see anet pushed so hard and spent so much time to develop ESPORT SPECTATORRR!!! and it is only a few people at a time that can watch hotjoins… thanks anet.

don’t talk to me about how we can now watch streams of high rank players on twitch with overhyped casters trying to make the game look exciting and super tactical. i don’t want to watch a trash pvp game, i want to play a good one.

Torment needs to proc in distance travelled, and not just walking. I believe the intent here is to level the playing field in match ups where Teleports, Gap Closers and Dodgerolls get overused.

Are there any plans for a duo queue? I play pvp a lot with a friend, but we’re not that organized at all. It’s frustrating to get matched versus premades, but a solo-only queue would prevent me from playing with my friends casually. Still, soloq is better than nothing, but it would be interesting to get a solo/ duo hybrid queue.

i have no idea. i would expect not. however there will be a lfg tool released soon that you can use and i expect that will help quite a bit.

let’s recap

  • some people use macros
  • this shouldn’t happen
  • however, macros are difficult to detect
    • players can’t really tell if another player is using them
      • anyone can queue skills fast enough with practice
      • if you click your skills, you are handicapping yourself
    • anet can’t really detect macros
      • they could probably detect simple ones, and it’s up to them if they want to
      • they cannot reasonably detect any macro system that uses random activation time
  • macros don’t give any significant advantage that any normal player couldn’t duplicate with some practice.
  • i want to repeat: macros are for nubs, and they shouldn’t be allowed.

it’s only a war of escalation, and for what? any macro they could reliably detect would be braindead mouse ones like you use that don’t really give any advantage. as if activating skill quickly in sequence was really something devs should spend time to protect against. get real kid. the longer the chain, the more it seems as if macro was good idea, but in reality the less control you have.

  • skill 2 comes out of queue & activates,
  • press skill 3 before skill 2 is done

there u have 3 skills that take .5 seconds activation time working at “max” speed that any normal person familiar with the skill chain could do. where’s the macro?

And again…you can log key presses not actual skill activation…and you’re not going to press you keys at the same millisecond everytime unless you’re using a bot aka macro…should i repeat this for the third time?

this is a great solution. im glad u r pro r50 that think things through. there is no way any1 could ever make macro that activates at random millisecond. anet hire this pro r50.

the only thing that looks strange is mind wrack + cry of frustration. i don’t know enough about it since i don’t play mesmer, but that is the only section of the chain that is questionable. the rest is easy to see that a person with a week of practice could do it.
i’m really getting the strong impression that people who mouse click their skills are the only ones that think macros are everywhere. i used to do a more complicated combo in gw1 regularly (thou it took long time to master it, was a/p dagger + spear attacks). use keyboard ppl, 4 srs.

yes you can. you can activate 1 skill and activate a 2nd that will queue and activate right after the 1st, and you can chain this so you always queue a skill as the previous one is activating.

People are incredible…. dragon ball arena is a mini game with 0 depth, if someone prefers it to spvp he doesnt deserve to type on this subforum.
PvP needs more depth, not less, last thing we need is to have it trivialized to become totally dull.

i strongly disagree
pvp atm is too complicated, too many moving parts, too many hidden procs, too much spam. there is a difference between depth and complexity. we have lots of complexity, but not enough depth. dragonball is refreshing because it’s so simple. it’s not a good replacement for pvp, but i was trying to hint to the devs that they need to make a pvp “redux” where all the stats and traits and equipment is removed or normalized, and then give interesting skills that give lots of depth. only then we will have: 1) accessible & 2) deep pvp.

My biggest problem with weapon evades is, not all classes have them.

Its like saying ; All classes can spam 2 dodges as standard. Except for Thief and Mesmer, they get 4.

Such a large mechanic needs to be standard.

If that’s the case Tyler, then why can we not see rating in game? It’s beyond pointless for there to be this invisible system and expect reasonable feedback on it. All we can see are ranking to it is reasonable for us to assume that a rank 1 would have far less rating than that of a rank 40.

If you’re used to a class let’s say thief or mesmer (The ones who usually go for macros) you can definately presume if someone is macroing or not…not everytime for sure but i can say a good 70% of the times…many good players play “as on macros” but you usually know them if you live in pvp…but a r20 bursting faster and better than a r50 playing that for ages? Don’t think so…i would say maybe, but more often it’s just a macro, and you can say that also looking at their combo…sometimes ppl with macros spam unuseful skills for that situation just because they put those into the chain and can’t cancel them…a mesmer with an awesome burst already wasted his shatter combo vs invulnerability and still goes bf? That smells of macro to me….just an example…just add a macro report option and it’s up to anet looking at time between skills, if it’s always the same with the same combo…well, it’s pretty clear what’s going on..and then ban for botting like there’s no tomorrow, because no matter what ppl say…macros are bots, 1 key 1 action…when your pc plays for you, unless you’re a ranger lol, it’s called botting…and deserves a ban..sure you can’t be 100% sure…sometimes i thought someone was macroing and after some time, looking better at him, i realized he definately wasn’t…aswell as many ppl sometimes ask me if i’m using macros on mesmer, but at the end of the day after a delay calculation on server side if’s you’re clean you’ve nothing to fear…if not…say goodbye to your account cause you totally deserved it..anyway for now, keep reporting suspected (You’ve to be pretty sure btw) macros for botting…better than nothing…

maybe it’s me that’s not understanding. do you click your skills with your mouse? is that the problem? did you know that macros can’t make you activate skills any faster than a person could? if you queue a skill after another it will activate directly after, at “maximum speed”. i imagine if you mouse click your skills then your perception of how “fast” skills should activate one after another might be very distorted. or maybe i’m just really out of the loop here.

If you make a solo queue option, it will no longer be reasonable to join a tournament match with just 2 friends. You’ll have to find 5 people, and most of them will leave if you lose since solo queue is so much better.

no… you’ll only have to find 2 other people. remember, you have 3 already.
