what specific situation happened that made you think there was a macro involved

edit: it’s completely likely that some players use macros, but it strikes me that “activating buttons quickly” is not a sign of it. anyone can activate their skills at the maximum speed the game allows with skill queueing, it’s only a matter of muscle memory and experience. did you expect players to spend several seconds considering every action?

Ababmer, go jump in WvW. Seems to have what you want, you can go kill low levels with subpar equipment very easily for an ego boost.
On the other hand s(tructured)PvP is about an equal playing field for all players from the getgo – that is what makes it an excellent base for pvp design.

Yet its not.
Again, from a design perspective they have this idea (confirmed by the cretin thinking they’re gonna get the best esport pvp in mmo’s) that their structured pvp is ESPORT capable when it simply isn’t, its good, but its not on the level even from an artistic readability standing, nevermind a gameplay balance standing.

and so it follows naturally that a gear grind would improve game balance… what a joker

you’re right that the pvp is not good, but a gear treadmill is an artificial cover up for badly designed game. at the very minimum, gw2 is transparent with its imbalances

the fact that you want it so badly just means you thrive in skill-less environments where super-nerds can grind endlessly to achieve artificial superiority

gear progression is a status symbol in other games because their devs want to keep you paying each month. keep on payin man, in the mean time all the devs did was bump some numbers in a spreadsheet.
status can be shown with anything that is difficult to achieve. keep drinkin that wow kool-aid man, but it don’t work here

There is also an unfortunate problem I’ve been having consistently lately, and that is people that go Away from Keyboard (annoying censor won’t let me use the abbreviation) on purpose just to hurt the team. I wish there was a report option for that, but until that is implemented, I’m just reporting them for botting.

i’d warn that it may be considered abuse of the reporting functionality. also it does nothing.

just to be clear, they don’t have gvg or ha or even regular death-match style combat for the simple reason the combat system is bad for it. in order to have gvg or anything else you need the combat system to function well in sustained team fights — and we all know how that doesn’t really work. which is why we have only conquest which is the only game mode in the universe that tries its hardest to split a team up and discourage groups of people fighting for long.

so, when will we get gvg?
not for a long while (if ever).

Why are you bringing up WoW? No one is talking about that game. Why do you feel the need to attack a position that we never represented? Did you even play GW1?

there has been multiple postings in this thread that “independent classes undermine teamplay”.

im saying:

whats more interesting?

purist classes team-play:
player1: dps, dps, dps, dps….
player2: heal, heal, heal….

VS

hybrid classes teamplay:
player1: dps, heal self, dps, heal alli, dps, dps…
player2: as diverse as player1

hybrid class and independence doesnt mean rstricting teamplay, but making it (harder) and interesting

i know this wasn’t really directed at me, but the issue is not that a class can heal and dps at the same time. it’s not about heal, and it’s not about dps. it’s about reliance on your teammates for something.

i’m just going to comment again about the 2 types of people posting here, and how they are failing to communicate

  • those who played gw1 pvp
  • those who have not

in particular it worries me that people post references to wow so often when discussing gw2. these are often the people who think gw2 pvp is great or at least worthwhile. and i bet it really is in comparison to other games they’ve played.

the other people are those like myself that have experienced gw1 pvp and recognize significant steps backwards from the original game.

people keep saying that i don’t understand the depth of gw2 combat, and they try to explain it to me like i’ve no idea how to be competitive in this game. i assure you it’s not the case. i’m aware of all the things you say. they all existed in gw1 — and much more as well.

it’s just not a good system for teamwork like they had in gw1. and it’s depressing that they casualized the game so much. but if they hadn’t, all of you wouldn’t be here. so i guess gg anet. way to go.

Title means exactly what it means. I don;t think balancing classes/builds/etc is going to change that core issue. I still think balancing should be done of course but I think it just isn’t fun enough to attract the pop WvW has right now.

for the people saying cast bars would dumb the game down:

  1. this is wrong. not having cast bars only increases the difficulty in understanding what your enemy is doing. it’s a barrier to entry, so to speak. it does not provide increased game depth.
  2. you can only see 1 enemy skill bar at a time. skill animations would still be very relevant to observing the entire battlefield.

First of all, you can not compare GW1 and GW2 ,as they are diffrent games.

one is a sequel to the other. in what universe are they incomparable.

My guess you are playing on low lvl tpvp and making your opinion on it.

i played to rank 30 exclusively in tournaments with various teams right after game came out.

In Conquest gamemode you need lot more as just “Burst, Stomp,Rez”, you have to send you team members to cap/decap enemy point, you have to know who and when is more effective,etc.

yes. and that is exactly the skill ceiling in this game. it’s not nothing, and it was fun for a while, but after some months it becomes obvious that it’s very shallow.

no, there is no backline mid front there is no weak guy that needs protection there is no empower that guy so he 2shots people there is no strategy there is no “ima tackle this guy so u cast ur nuke kinda thing” . there is just different ways to do the same do dmg or spam condis.

Do you know why the holy trinity was removed from GW2? The devs have said it was removed because of casuals, because of pug players, because of solo players. Ironically, this hasn’t been helping them at all in pvp.

it’s much more plausible they were thinking only of pve. especially if we consider how sad the state of pvp infrastructure is atm.

GW2 also have rock/paper/scissor , it just that with that some factor i stated in my 1st post make it so hard to realize it.

Like you say you blind the warrior, warrior need a healer to remove it to deal dmg, same in gw2, i just played with a warrior i babysat him in tpvp, i cleanse all his condition for him to deal dmg and try to heal him with my aoe(which most of the time misses as what i explained in the 1st post). Is that so far off? I even immobilize a jumping thief so that he can land a bullcharge rush. So i don’t see how far am gw2 is off from gw1, its presented differently, yes but not so alien that it doesn’t have it at all.

now you also see the problem with gw2. you mention warrior in gw2 and you help him remove blind. OK. except that this is the reason no one takes warrior. he needs support. other classes don’t have this problem as serious as warrior do — they are more independent. and devs say they will make warrior have better self-clean from condition… this is step in direction of less teamplay.
hope you better understand what discussion is about now.

@ all who are arguing against OP topic:
chances are very high that you’ve not played gw1 GvG or HA at high enough level (or at all).
in this thread, there are many references to gw1 style of team play. that is what we are all talking about. if you don’t know what that was like, you will not understand even 1% of the discussion. you may think you do… but you really don’t.

in summary, gw1 pvp was like this: rock-paper-scissors chess action-rpg. 2 teams of 8. in order to deal damage to enemy team, you had to “unlock” their defenses while simultaneously preventing them from doing the same to you. a simple example would be:

they blind your warrior so he does no damage, your healer has to remove it & manage his energy, which he could only do if your team wasn’t taking too much damage, which your midline could help with by disabling their damage (like blinding their warrior), which they could do as long as the enemy team disablers weren’t focusing on them or the enemy monks were under enough pressure so they don’t have energy for condi remove… etc etc etc. that’s team work. that’s pvp. not like gw2.

In Gw1 were hidden Arrmor runes and weapons sigil + in gw2 you see 4 skills (or more) on what weapon is you opponent using.

i chose my words carefully: the effects are skill-like in gw2, whereas they were decidedly less powerful in gw1. imagine spawning a pet when you get hit in gw1. unreal.

yes empathetic, that is another large problem for skillful gameplay that’s easy to follow

their idea for reducing this increased complexity? make the hidden ones passive & rng.

edit:
btw since devs announced they’re buffing warrior and help him vs condi, i can say now that pvp devs have given up on this game ever being good. warrior is probably the best designed class with good visual cues for important skills and good damage but weakness to condi & slows. this could have turned into a good teamplay dynamic like in gw1. they should have nerfed other classes to this level to promote support, but instead they just buff warrior. gg anet.

here is why teamplay doesn’t really exist: classes are too independent

would require drastic nerfs and class reworkings that would first have to get approved by pve and wvw teams (never going to happen).

You have to understand that stealth is only a gimmick. When you learn to predict their movement (and timing) from experience…a lot of that damage could be avoided and/or you could kill them through it.

Stealth is not a invuln, it’s simply going invisible…you can still hit them with anything that you would normally be able to hit them with…

Just play more against them and you’ll see that stealth isn’t as strong as you think.

The normalization of races is already proven to be functional, as character models in WvW will do this. Everyone will display as a normalized model (I believe human) for a couple seconds depending on your settings and computer performance, and then the real models will load after a few more seconds. Simply moving this option over to sPvP should be a simple issue.

surely this will be an easy task for gw2 programmers that never have random unrelated bugs appear each patch
