The main problem with this is how to know when player closes game client intentionally and when the game crashes by itself. Because players should not be punished if the internet connection is lost or PC crashes.

Alt-F4 does not force the application to quit, it sends a close window message which the application can honor (the convention) or not. Essentially, the GW2 client could determine whether the connection was lost, the application crashed, or the user terminated the client.

In the event that the client was closed by user while in combat, there should be a penalty of, say, 15 minute block from entering or queuing for WvW maps.

So, I now testing a custom solution. I switched to Sorrow’s Furnace. The smaller of the low Tier server. And just as important. N/A Server. Blob avoidance by time zone change. ^^

May you find many undefended camps to flip and endless hours of exciting duels with NPCs.

It’s kind of funny to me to read these whine festivals about condi chrono, when while running power shatter I’ve often been suggested by team mates to go condition instead.

I trust that when your team has a condition chrono, you suggest to them they go power shatter instead? Or is this the old case of being fine with it when your team has one?

6k per Vault on 2300 toughness. For power shatter to do any kind of meaningful damage, you have to go glass. Good luck with that.

The rise of the cheese is easily attributable to the tardmode power creep of these “active” power builds with their one-shot skills. People don’t enjoy getting 80% of their life being blown away by a single skill by classes who can bunker up and still deliver these cheesy numbers.

I don’t care about the score. The Germans can nightcap all they want for all I care. I’m not here to fight them then, so what do I care.

I am only interested in fights, and all these QoL changes mean very little when the class balance is a joke.

Run in a zombie horde of HoT elites, collect reward track. That’s what this game has been reduced to. It’s a blame equally shared by the developers for completely dropping the ball on balancing, and the community for turning it into Queensdale 2.0.

But sure, fix tooltip typos.

I stopped playing spvp entirely shortly after HoT. I do have HoT, but I don’t play any of the elites.

The core classes are hopelessly powerless versus the elites, and I don’t want to run an elite. I’d never really know if I won the fight because of skill, or because I was being carried by the elite.

Seeking advice (WvW havoc/roam, core Guard)

My main is a Mesmer and I’m part of a small group of friends who play primarily only WvW and focus on scout/defense/havoc/roam sort of gameplay on our home border. Basically if something is contested, we try to respond and save it, independent of any commander/zerg that might be on the map.

One of the core individuals in this group is a core Guardian who has not purchased HoT, nor does he presumably want to until there’s something in it for him. He is not interested in placing traps or spamming a longbow, but instead prefers the “knight in shining armour” sort of zerk/knights GS/Sc&F Mediguard play of olde.

The problem is, this build, while very effective pre-HoT, lacks in the survival department versus the elites. Accentuating the problem is that many of us in the group are classes with ranged or access to a lot of stealth, so often he is the only actual melee and has a nice big bullseye on his forehead.

It isn’t a L2P issue where Guard mechanics are concerned; he is a terrific and very experienced Guard and WvW player in general. I’ll allow it may be a L2P issue to an extent where specific elite skills are concerned as he does not play them (nor do I, for that matter).

I’ve not played Guard much, I have only 1500 hours in it, but I have played around with gear and traits to see if there’s anything I could suggest to him to try but I am not really seeing it.

My question is two-fold.

1) What gear or trait options would make a core Mediguard have more sustain in a WvW havoc/roam setting while not completely destroying its damage capability?

2) If there are no such gear or trait options, is there a core Guard build that I could play in the same setting as a companion to his Guard that would synergize well with his build and provide the lacking support?

While I prefer playing a Mesmer because I don’t have to auto-die to every faceroll elite that waddles by, I’d be willing to try some sort of supportive build on Guard. I don’t want to lose yet another good friend in WvW, so many have quit already because of HoT. Mesmer support builds are laughable.

Yeah, increase the map capacity so that everything turns into a slideshow. Maybe you’d like to take another stab at thinking it through.

It’s pretty amazing that all the maps had such long queues on your server. We only had a consistent queue on EB, the borderlands were fairly fast to get into. Then again if you’re used to following the tag around brainlessly, spamming staff auto like a lobotomized monkey with Alzheimer’s, moving from EB to the borderlands may not be a smooth transition…

I guess it depends on your definition of viability. There are chrono condition builds.

However, since you’ll want to take Dueling for obvious reasons, your third line will be your bottleneck. You can either take Chaos and lose out on confusion-on-shatter, confu duration +33%, torment-on-shatter (Maim the Disillusioned), torch trait (cleanse and more stealth), and either Ineptitude or scepter trait.

Or you can take Dueling and lose out on protection & regen at 75% health, increased condition duration based on boons, projectile reflect on Manipulation skills, increased condi dmg based on 10% of your toughness (or staff trait), and increased stealth duration plus random boons while stealthed.

Aside from faster shatters, the main gain from Chrono for a condi roamer is being able to bypass Travelers as your rune. Mobility is everything; there aren’t as many solo roamers (at least in my tier) as there are zergs and gank squads. PU condi has more “outs” to disengage at will and will be more comfortable in a 1v2-3 scenario.

PvE and WvW updates are well received, but the PvP forum is absolutely livid on just about everything.

No matter what you do, it seems you can never please that player base.

Par for the course I guess.

The only issue I have (at this time) is the duration nerf for Infusing Terror. It seems to be my only reliable source of Stab on a necro. I don’t carry well of power in my builds, and Chilled to the Bone (which means no Plague or Lich) is hit and miss on the stab it’s supposed to provide. My only alternative is to sacrifice Death Perception for Foot in the Grave. That’s not an acceptable alternative.

I suppose when you play one of the most broken classes in the game, the “issues” aren’t that plentiful.

I don’t play PvE, I only do WvW. For core Mesmer in WvW, this patch didn’t deliver anything to make my socks roll up and down.

This quarter, we’ll be looking a bit at the scepter and pushing it toward more hybrid capabilities. There have been several animation changes and recharge reductions, along with general damage increases. Additionally, due to the change made in how attack speed increases are calculated, Malicious Sorcery provides a higher attack speed bonus (though the tool-tip value will not change). The chronomancer has had a few changes, with well recharge reductions and improved access to personal alacrity.

Feedback: Fixed an issue that prevented the combo ring for this skill from displaying.

Ether Bolt: Reduced the aftercast delay by 0.16 seconds.

Ether Blast: Reduced the aftercast delay by 0.28 seconds.

Ether Clone: Reduced the aftercast delay by 0.45 seconds. This skill no longer fires a missile but is a direct attack instead.

Counterspell: The cooldown of this skill has been reduced from 10 seconds to 8 seconds. The damage from this skill has been increased by 50% when an attack is blocked. The attack activation time has been reduced by 0.2 seconds. The aftercast delay has been reduced by 0.24 seconds.

Confusing Images: The damage output of this skill has been increased by 20%.

Illusionary Riposte: Reduced the cooldown of this skill from 15 seconds to 12 seconds. The attack activation time has been reduced by 0.4 seconds. The aftercast delay has been reduced by 1 second.

Restorative Mantras: This trait now displays a blue ring effect while channeling a mantra, indicating the trait’s effective area.

Well of Action: The recharge time of this skill has been reduced from 30 seconds to 25 seconds.

Well of Precognition: The recharge time of this skill has been reduced from 45 seconds to 30 seconds.

Well of Recall: The recharge time of this skill has been reduced from 40 seconds to 35 seconds.

Flow of Time: The alacrity applied by this trait has been increased from 0.75 seconds to 1 second per illusion shattered.

You’re not alone. One of my best buddies in WvW is a fellow defender who runs a core Guardian and they don’t play nearly as much anymore because they don’t stand a chance against elite classes. Core Guard just gets melted. Guardian was my first class and I love it, but it’s nearly useless now. Maybe in zergs you can live long enough, but in small scale roaming, scouting and defending? It’s an uphill battle like never before.

The HoT power creep has invalidated a lot of classes and a lot of builds.

To add on to matters, the overall state of WvW has caused increased stress to anyone that still takes it seriously for whatever reason, and thus the patience gets lower and lower to the point where people can only turn to people they trust.

As a scout, defender and solo roamer, it’s gotten to the point that the rule #1 is that if I am in a 2v2 and I don’t know my ally, it’s really a 1v2.

Yesterday, I hid inside an enemy Hills/Air keep when its wall was down, and after things calmed down, I quietly built two catas at inner wall by portaling sups from a nearby camp. Once done, I noticed my server still had no objectives owned on the map, so I asked in map chat if there were any of us on the map. I got one whisper as reply. Since I did not recognize the name, instead of asking them to come to where I could portal them in I just proceeded to cata the wall solo and kill the lord myself, luckily uninterrupted. I’d rather risk it solo than with someone I did not know and, therefore, trust. It’s easier to solo the parrot without having to stop to rally someone every 30 seconds.

This is not because I am distrusting in nature but because generally speaking the average random tag mascot is incapable of even the most basic and menial tasks. Their level of involvement ends at following the tag and standing around not building anything or keeping a lookout, simply waiting for the tag to do everything while they wait for the champ box.

It has simply become too difficult to differentiate between those PUGs who don’t do what needs to be done because they are inexperienced and in need of guidance, and those who simply cannot be bothered to make an effort.

Wvw and Condi

Now this is very important, because the counter question is: why you want condition damage to be at the same level of power damage, instead of beeing just a side effect for the kiting classes? Why you just don’t go power build then if in fact condition dmg will be the same as power dmg?*
The answer is really simple: you want something that helps you concentrate more on defense, while still beeing able to do high dmg, and that ignores defensive stats and force opponent to change his build and adapt to your.
In a few words: you want condition dmg to be high to eliminate the possible counterplay from the opponent, you want to be CARRIED by condition dmg.

I don’t pve. I don’t spvp. I only solo roam in WvW on a core Mesmer. No Chrono, core. There are no power builds for core Mesmer anymore. The summer patch and the pay2win HoT elites saw to that.

Condition is nowhere near as fun to play as the old Power Phantasm, but it’s kitten sure more fun than auto-dying to every clown spamming traps or chill.

Nobody reimbursed me jack kitten when HoT completely invalidated my three-man guild’s upgrades and removed us the ability to +5 objectives or build guild siege.

The ANet AMA thing, don’t have the link available right now, but a summary was on Dulfy iirc. They stated that they gave up on “the big overhaul” idea, because it became too big for them. And moving over to rather implement changes in small bits when they where ready. That is the short of it.

As far as I can recall, they didn’t say they gave up on the changes themselves, only that they weren’t going to implement them all at once but instead one change at a time.

Because they had to come up with something that guilds would be willing to grind their eyeballs out for. They needed guild upgrades. So they came up with the Emergency Waypoints, which no one would give a kitten about if the waypoints worked like they used to.

Guild upgrades require HoT — ch-ching! — and grinding. The new grind zones are filled with vertical bullkitten so you need to glide everywhere; gliders were designed for selling glider skins — ch-ching! All roads lead to the gem store.

Meanwhile they completely shafted small roaming guilds in the process.

My point is, people need to get out there and LEARN them; and if you already know them, well then good – but still, get out there and PLAY on them then. The more people that play in them the more fun they’ll be, that is THE point after all is it not? And like I said, I wouldn’t refute it would be MORE fun, if MORE people were on them. So everyone needs to quit the Q.Q and just go PLAY! Make the best out of what we have!

There are enough people. Lots of zergs and omniblobs razing the keeps on an hourly schedule. That’s not the problem. But you don’t get it, and since you’ve decided you don’t want to get it, there’s no point in trying to explain it to you.

Fairly often I see it posted that we didn’t make any changes to WvW or the Desert Borderlands map as a result of our Desert Borderlands stress tests. While it’s totally true that we didn’t attempt to completely overhaul the entire map a month or two before the Expansion shipped (as that was definitely out of scope), we made more than a few changes and bug fixes as a result of the playtesting and feedback from those pre-HoT beta events.

I only have the release notes from the 2nd beta handy (which I’ve posted below), but we made similar numbers of changes after each of the three closed beta events.

With that being said, we understand that there are many issues the community still wants to see addressed with the Desert Borderlands and we are still working to improve the map, as well as our other high priorities like bringing back Alpine, skill balance, improving rewards, and correcting population balance.

//Old Patch Notes Begin
General WvW Changes

  • Arrow Carts (all types) now require 10 more supply to build.
  • Supply camps now auto-upgrade faster.
  • Supply depots now are marked on the map.
  • Players can no longer rally off of basic creatures in WvW. Only veteran rank or higher.
  • Objective bosses now have health scaling based on the number of allied and enemy players in the area.
  • Sentries will now mark enemy players on the map for 30 seconds.
  • Keeps will now mark enemy players within their perimeter, for the first 5 minutes, after being flipped.
  • Shield Generators (all types) have had their range reduced.
  • Exotic WvW equipment can now be salvaged. Badge gear yields badges. Tournament ticket gear yields standard exotic salvage materials.

Desert Borderland Changes

  • Skysplitter damage reduced.
  • Skysplitter now attacks all enemy gates, not just outer gates.
  • Fire Keep lord difficulty somewhat reduced
  • Air Keep lord difficulty somewhat increased
  • Tower and Keep guard damage slightly decreased.
  • Some Tower and Keep guards have had their CC durations reduced.
  • Gate guard aggro range increased.
  • Range to activate the Dolyak Protected Caravan buff increased.
  • Certain very large capture points have had their radius reduced.
  • Flame’s Embrace shrine bonus now grants 40% increased movement speed, instead of reducing burning duration. It still also grants immunity to lava damage.
  • The north supply camp guards repositioned.

  • Fixed a number of terrain exploits.

Useful thread. Still a shame the official forums are no longer relevant, but thanks for posting these links/quotes.

Of course the official forums are relevant. For a variety of reasons, the devs only have time to post rarely. They do, however, read a lot of suggestions and complaints (as can be seen by changes included in HoT, via things fixed, and even from the comments they make on Reddit).

I only play WvW, so I naturally wouldn’t see any of these miracles performed.

Arenanet is first going to waste time “fixing” the DBL instead of discarding it.

I suspect we’ll see WvW in its death throes for a good 9 months or so before, if ever, they’ll start to take things seriously.

  • Shrink Towers/have less attackable walls. There’s so many angles of attack it just places unnecessary strain on scouting defenders, and in a lot of cases people just don’t bother at all.

All of your suggestions are good, some essential. However, I’m not sure removing some walls is enough. Defenders/scouts don’t really bother with the towers because of the travel distance, but also because the towers serve no strategic importance. You can’t treb the keeps from any of them. On Alpines they were often crucial elements in strategic play.

Then again, strategic play and the DBLs…..

Yes map looks gorgeous but is better of as a dungeon map. Bay/Hills/Garri paths with a big legendary duck in the middle.

I can see it already. A gigantic yellow rubber duckie, sluggish in movement but massive in size with devastating attacks. I can see it furrowing its brows with eyes squinted, with beak opening slowly with a nigh-constipated expression. “Oh #(¤%, it’s charging Death Quack!”

The people asking for you to “fix” the DBL are a minority compared to those who want the Alpines reinstated. You referring to “fixing” it as an option makes me think that because of time and money invested in designing a map unsuited for this game mode, you’re going to attempt to “fix” it, thus wasting more time while the game mode keeps bleeding players.

If you really believe you can “fix” that which is broken by design, at least give us the Alpines in the meantime so we can have some fun for a change while you figure out how to add more PvE into DBL to improve it.

Álways roam with a necro if possible. This way if things go kittens up, you can pop swiftness and slip away while the necro takes one for the team.
