You’re saying this economy is vendor based? Are you really sure about that? If so, I highly suggest you look up exactly what a vendor based economy is within an MMO.

We have a “vendor baseline” in that almost all items can be sold to a vendor for a base price. That is very different from “vendor based”.

Sorry, but there are no valid reasons to be against this suggestion.

First of all, this type of baseless claim is not constructive to any discussion.

Second, yes there are/is: The current system (coincidentally?) prioritizes materials by the value I assign to the slots they occupy so the more valueable slot is freed up first.

The values assigned to the slots are, of course, subjective but I order them like this:
Inventory: Is where loot goes so I’d want to have a good number of open slots.
Bank: Anything can be put in the slots so they are more valuable than materials slots.
Materials storage: Can only hold that type of materials so is of lesser value than the others.

Material storage allows you to free up your inventory, so by your own definition it is more valuable than bank slots due to the ability to automatically transfer items to it.

One thing no one mentioned is LUCK and Precursor Mystic Forge Rolling

For example I save all my rare daggers/swords/greatswords to roll in the mystic forge for a chance at precursor

Before I maxed out magic find I would salvage everything for luck but that obviously takes a long time

But obviously neither of these options is taking into consideration strictly the max profit so yeah depends where you are gold-wise the above options for luck and precursors is probably better when you have nothing to spend money on

salvaging rares and exotics doesnt yield luck.

They do if you also salvage the Ectos.

No, actually. We do the SAME amount if we’re smart (one time, when the store gets filled). What changes is I don’t feel like I have to craft in order to keep remote-depositing (not true), versus you not feel ing that material storage items are reserved for their purpose (also not true).

The store gets filled more slowly if you are also using it when crafting, thus your premise is incorrect.

Sorry, but there are no valid reasons to be against this suggestion.

Exotic can give you 1-3 Glob of Ectoplasm which is a useful advanced materials and also have chance to get Glob of Dark Matter which is account bond to craft Ascended armors and weapons. And BTW, you have chance to get BL salvage kit when you finish your daily

You will get approximately 0.375 more Globs of Ectoplasm per salvage if you use the BLSK versus a Master’s Kit.

I haven’t seen any research (or done any of my own) on the increase in Dark Matter based on which kit you use, but I imagine it would be similar.

In both cases, the extra materials add up to a small fraction of the increased cost of using the BLSK so it does not make financial sense to use a BLSK unless the Rune/Sigil will sell for at least the amount I posted above.

Free BLSKs are super nice, and while they won’t “cost” you in the sense that you actually lose gold, they will “cost” you in the sense that you could have used them to make gold and didn’t.

Would be nice to have the choice how you prioritize the storage slot and I would say a lot of people are annoyed about the current way it works.

But why? That’s what I’m not understanding. I can’t see any reason why you would need to separate out materials.

Material tab is the dump where everything you pick up goes when you are cleaning up your inventory.

Bank tab is where you specifically put stuff, which generally implies you want to keep it separate.

I specifically put my overflow into my bank tabs MANUALLY because I have to keep my Material Tab EMPTY in order to use the “Deposit Material” tool.

If the system was changed to use the Material Tab first, then they would be eliminating the UNNECESSARY MANUAL step of moving the overflow out of Material Tab.

You’re doing the same thing I’m doing (moving overflow to the bank). If we fixed this so that Material Tab was used first then you and I BOTH would have a LOT LESS manual overflow moving to do.

I did the math on this a while ago. It was possible to buy out the cheap stock and relist at a higher point for profit, assuming the sales volume at the higher price point offset the acquisition costs. In this scenario, you’re buying up 3,000,000 units at 3.5 copper each, so you need to sell around 390,000 of them at the current average buy order amount of 32 copper each to break even. At that point, you’re sitting on 2,600,000 units that you have acquired “for free” which can be sold at vendor minimum and still turn a profit. Of course, they are occupying real estate in your bank while you are depriving the market of them so there are some costs involved outside the straight p/l calculation, but those costs are in terms of lost opportunity which I’ve always argued does not apply to recreational activities due to the extrinsic nature of pleasure.

It would be interesting to find out if the person(s) responsible made any profit or if the economy punished their attempt to price spike.

Use your lvl80 Character, go to the edge of the mists, find a commander and join the train. Kill the guards and get packages and loots, it contains tons of fine or mastered even rare or exotic light armor, salvage those. Fine and Mastered use the basic salvage kits(or a Copper-fed one), Rare use yellow one, and exotic use BL Salvage kits.
Pro:
1.Get WvW EXP
2.Farm Several types of Materials
3.Loot bags contains skill point
4.More chance for exotic gear.
Con:
1.Easy to get bored and wanna sleep fast.
2.Too many bloodstone dust from loot bag, annoying to store it.
3.Needs personal skill to defeat enemy farmer lol

The break even point for using Black Lion Salvage Kits is currently 1g65s12c (the amount it costs to buy one use of a BLSK via gold to gem conversion). Unless you have a ton of them lying around, you should only use Black Lion Salvage Kits on exotic items where the Sigil or Rune is selling for 1g94s26c or more (this price, less the fees, will match the break even point). If the Sigil or Rune is selling for less than that, you are actually losing gold by using your BLSK and should be using a Master kit instead.

I do want ascended as I’m already very comfortable with Assassin exotics and want to do something with my lvl 80 other than doing it all again on alts
The yellow salvage kits are rather cheap so I don’t mind using them. I only use BL kits for exotics from fractals (if I ever get them) cause I also need echo’s
Anyway, thanks for all the info! I’ll try get those bolt of damask soon!!!

But using a yellow kit on light armor doesn’t give me a bigger chance at getting silk?
And I only get silk from salvaging light armors?

Yellow kits should be used on rare and exotic armor and weapons. Black Lion Kits, unless you have a ton of them, should be saved and only used on exotics with very expensive runes or sigils.

The kit quality does not improve the number of silk scraps you get. It can cause you to get gossamer instead of silk though which is why you want to avoid using higher quality kits (since gossamer is not as valuable as silk).

Use the Basic kit for all white, blue, and green tier gear.

Farm events in Cursed Shore and salvage everything. I do temples every day and a few others and i end up with lots of silk. I find cotton and wool hard to come by since i’m always in high level zones.

Harathi Hinterlands for cotton and linen.
Gendarran Fields for wool and cotton.

In both cases you’re going to want to do events that spawn a ton of Centaurs because the bags they drop are laden with fabrics.

Twice we have taken the attunement but the port says uh-oh and we are back at the start. I have succeeded earlier but then I had help; apparently forgot something. What to do?

I also repeatedly fall down to terrain, unable to continue the jumping puzzle as said in the wiki. Hopefully that is a bug and it will be fixed soon. Very frustating to start from the very beginning without checkpoints that other players have.

If you follow the main path, then you are skipping the attunement place. The attunement places are off to the side and out of the way (be sure to look down a lot).

There are points where wind gusts will knock you down (and back to the beginning if you fall off). Is that what is giving you trouble?

If you do a lot of event farming in Orr with decent magic find, you’ll get a lot of armor drops which you can salvage for silk (if light armor).

If you don’t need mithril or leather, you can sell the other armor and weapons you find to help fund your trading post acquisition of silk as well.

As mentioned above, use the basic salvage kit (I recommend the copper-fed salvage-o-matic for convenience purposes) as higher tier kits won’t help you get more silk.

Linen can still be farmed with Karma. Farm Linen, sell Linen, then use profits to buy Silk.

or promote it to silk (not sure that is anywhere NEAR profitable).

My sheets indicate that promoting a stack of Linen into Silk will result in a 17g39s66c loss for bolts or a 10g33s85c loss for scraps.

The more people there are doing dungeons for gold, the more gold is being created out of thin air which causes money supply inflation to occur.

Additionally, there are less people farming, and therefore less goods entering the market (dungeons do drop loot, but not at the rate at which event farming does). Less goods means that supply is lowered while demand remains which leads to further price increases.

These two related economic impacts mean that as more people do dungeons for gold, the faster farming will meet the expected gold per hour of dungeons.

This is because while dungeons provide a static amount of inflationary gold as a reward, farmed items have a value that scales with the economy.

Personally, I’d like to see the gold rewards for dungeon paths reduced by half, and then a new bonus reward for “vanquishing” a dungeon added which would be equal to the current dungeon rewards (essentially, if you vanquish a dungeon path you’d be getting 150% more gold than under the current system). Vanquishing would require your group to kill every single “prespawned” mob (i.e. those mobs who are present when the dungeon is entered. Mobs that spawn for specific fights wouldn’t count) in the path. Vanquishing all of a dungeon’s paths would also net you a bonus chest with some gold on top of the buffed gold rewards.

It certainly doesn’t solve that issue, you are correct.

The only way to play WvW together in that case would be for him to move to his friends server. There is no way to circumvent the fact that some servers are full.

Can you clarify what “full” means?

Based on previous developer statements it appears that it is based on the number of accounts that call a server “home”, rather than on the number of current, logged in accounts, but it has never been explicitly stated (at least not anywhere I was able to find).

It may have to do with anticipation that the “drops skewed to your profession” would impact the cloth market since everyone “must run a zerk warrior” mentality. I assume it’s mainly speculation driven with players hoarding silk for the day the silk supply dries up.

Btw, they really do need to fix “profession loot.” My thief keeps getting leather drops now, NOBODY needs leather drops. This is why Silk prices are going up, because 5/8ths of the classes are now getting less silk than usual, while the remaining 3/5ths are profiting off the difference.

Blue leather armor should be sold on the TP or to a merchant. Green leather armor should be forged for a chance at a promotion to Rare quality (at which point you can salvage it for the Ecto and Rune).

You are supposed to be guaranteed the same item type if you put 4 of the same type in.

For armor, all 4 pieces must be the same weight and slot or else the result will be random. For example, if I throw in a leather hat, leather boots, leather gloves, and leather leggings, my output could be a metal anything (hat, boots, chest, shoulders, legs, or gloves). If I throw 4 leather hats in, I am guaranteed to get a leather hat back.

Make sure to have a farming tool equipped, then find a node and press f.

Make sure you have an appropriate level farming tool equipped.
Those ruined chunks of ore may stack nicely in your inventory, but they aren’t worth much.

Both of the camps must be under Priory control. The Commissar should spawn on a 20 minute timer.

The event chain frequently bugs, however, so if the camp events are not happening correctly, you’ll need to get into a new instance of the zone (which may or may not be possible depending on the number of players there).

That’s a nice long post, but all of it is irrelevant to what I said. Rapid Fire is not a One-Trick-Pony. It’s on a 10(8) second cooldown, though most of the counters to that you attempted to describe to me are on longer cooldowns. So….what, does that make those skills like Quarter-Trick-Ponies? And that would mean that GS Maul+Signets is like a Penny-Trick-Pony, so that would make everything in the game a Trick-Pony of some sorts….That’s way too many ponies dude….

Rapid Fire, without a full zerker gear set, aggressive (and thus defenseless) trait set up, and usage of at least 1 signet CD (at least 48+ seconds between use), does meaningless damage.

That is why it is a “one trick pony”. There are no rangers bursting people to death every 10 seconds. They have to set themselves up for a specific combination of things to get a heavy burst, after which they are a completely powerless free kill.

Don’t worry though, as you aren’t actually being hurt. You can throw those lower level items back into the forge and can get an 80 back so in the long run you aren’t losing anything.

You are losing, actually. 4 level 80 items (or 3 level 80 items and a stone) can get you a level 75-80 gear. If the average of the components goes down, so does the average of the results (with four 75 gears you can get as low as level 70). Previously, you were guaranteed to always get at least the average level, now you can get less.

So you mix the level 70 with some other 80s and you’re still getting 75-80 items.

Also, I think the “lower level” items drop in tiers, as I haven’t seen a sub 75 item when using all 75s (haven’t done a lot of those though, so I could be wrong).

Don’t get me wrong though, rangers needed a buff. But maybe spread that buff around to other skills instead of just dumping it all into one.

Whenever you are playing against a live competitor (i.e. NOT AI), how much damage you do is insignificant compared to WHEN you do your damage.

PvP is a game of windows. If you are unable to do lethal damage during the appropriate window, you will never succeed in combat, especially if your foe CAN do lethal damage in his window.

All ArenaNet did was change RF so that it was capable of doing damage in a short enough window to be relevant in PvP. Giving Rangers lots of little buffs all over the place would keep them irrelevant in PvP. Giving Rangers a single skill that allows them to burst at the appropriate time means that you will have to address their relevancy by changing your build.

Why is your team leaving you to defend/capture a point that is guarded by a tactically placed ranged unit when you are a melee warrior?

If your build is weak to ranged units, you shouldn’t be trying to face-tank ranged damage. Get someone else over to that point and move to an area where you can contribute.

Just so you know, Precursors are not randomly priced. The Chosen is at 560g because it will cost about that much in Mystic Forge attempts to create it on average.

Because it is random, you could see outliers such as getting a Precursor from the MF for only 1g worth of forges or being the guy who drops 3000g and never sees one at all. But given enough MF attempts (we are talking tens of thousands here), you will average out to one The Chosen for every approximately 500g spent on the MF.

It’s not quite that simple though because there are a lot of other factors involved in the TP prices for precursors.

You have the same chance of getting The Chosen when throwing exotic shields into the Forge as you do of getting Dusk when throwing in exotic greatswords. But Dusk costs almost twice as much (maybe more, maybe less, I can’t check the exact price right now).

A big part of that is because a lot more people want Twilight than The Flameseeker Prophecies, so there’s more people bidding for Dusk and the price gets pushed up.

Sometimes other things push demand up (or down) too. Pretty much all the precursor prices went up around the time of the April feature patch because the wardrobe update (and they fact that legendaries became account bound) made them a lot more desirable for some people. At the other extreme during the Karka weekend when quite a lot (relatively speaking) dropped the prices crashed.

The exotic and rare weapons have three main factors controlling their price:
1. How desirable the same weapon type precursor is
2. The current market value of Globs of Ectoplasm
3. The average Sigil/Rune value

Items 2 and 3 set a baseline cost that all precursors share. Item 1 will then increase the cost of forging based on how in demand the precursor is.

This means that if you want to buy greatswords to attempt to forge for a greatsword precursor, you are going to pay a lot more for your forge attempts than if you wanted to buy shields.

The net result is as I said above… the current precursor price reflects the average cost of forging the precursor using rare and exotic weapons, and those costs reflect the demand of the individual precursors.

It’s a degree of interplay that I didn’t feel the need to expound upon when giving a simple answer, which is that the price of a precursor is based on the cost of getting it.

A full zerk ranger’s rapid fire is significant damage. We can discuss buffing that even more with Signet of the wild another time, but let’s keep this on level ground first.

A full zerk anything in PvP is a non-factor. They die if you breathe in their direction (that’s why they are called “glass cannons”… lots of damage potential but super easy to break when hit).

If full zerkers are regularly giving you problems in PvP, you need to get more experience in PvP because you are doing something wrong.

If someone has a position advantage, you should be countering that with a push, a pull, or a different position of your own.

But above you said it is not based on active population (which I don’t think is right). Guess I i don’t understand what you are really trying to do…

In the past, people could transfer to “full” servers at certain times of the day because the status would drop to “very high” for brief slices of time. Prior to season 2 this happened at or near NA prime leading to the “server black out” discussions to squeeze guilds in. This leads me to believe it is related to active/on-line pop, but I can’t say I know that for sure – maybe it is some calculation of active-online and total pop……

If “Full” is a count of current logged in players/characters for the server, then you would be unable to guest to the server because the number of active “slots” remaining would be 0. For example, if a server allows 100 people to be online at once and 100 people were online, anyone attempting to guest would be rejected because that would mean 101 would were online on that server.

If “Full” is a count of “Home Accounts” (accounts that call a server their home), then “Full” doesn’t consider how many people are online at any given time. This means that a “Full” server would prevent new Home Accounts from being created there, but would still allow people to guest there and play (since guesting increases the number of ACTIVE users, not the number of Home Accounts).

Since you are able to guest to a “Full” server and play there, “Full” clearly doesn’t mean “maximum number of current log ins” but rather “maximum number of Home Accounts”.

As an anecdote supporting this, Devona’s Rest, up until December 2013, was one of the lowest population servers. Our best attempt at the Marionette included 20 people, some of them guests. Our Queensdale Champ train never had more than 15 people. Lion’s Arch was a ghost town with maybe 25 people. We NEVER had a SINGLE overflow instance. Ever. We were still listed as a “Very High” population server though because we were a popular server when the game launched and had a very high number of accounts who NEVER logged on.

Guesting and transferring are not the same thing though…..

In terms of current active population, they are exactly the same thing.

All i got are regular skins but 78lvl. I hoped for precursors. If you are right my chances with this change were reduced. Did arena.net explain it somewhere?

Your chances for a precursor are the same as they’ve always been.

You can put 4 level 75 items and get a precursor you know.

As long as the AVERAGE of the 4 items is at least 75, you have a shot at a precursor. You could put two 73s, one 74, and one 80 in the Forge and have the same chance at a precursor that I do when I put four 80s in because the average of the four items in both cases is 75 or higher.

ArenaNet has not explained the details of the system, but they did address the precursor chance. You’d have to dig through John Smith’s posts to find the exact quote.

FYI, the “Full” status has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with how many people are currently online, but rather with how many people have joined the server.

This means that someone who hasn’t logged on in over a year but who happens to have their characters on SoS is blocking your friend from joining your server.

The only way your friend will be able to join the server will be if someone who is currently on SoS decides to transfer off. Banned accounts may also free up space, though they are technically still on the server since the data is never deleted (since someone could contest the ban and get back into the game and server).

Not the way that I’ve experienced it at all. Maybe someone can shed some light on this, but I have transferred to a full server by using the servers downtime.

Also many servers in wvw have used the “black-out” option which is a mass log-out that reduces the world population and allows guilds to transfer to the server. Unless that has changed recently, it’s still the way server population is calculated.

If you have access to test this, try guesting to a “full” server right now.

You’ll join the server with no problems whatsoever because the population ratings have nothing to do with active players but rather with the total number of accounts on a given server.

I’m going to spend a little time to see if I can find a Red post on this (search doesn’t work well which makes it take more time than it should so I’ll probably give up after several pages).

The range of levels that can be output was increased (in order to cause different skins to have a better chance of being created).

This means that you can get items that are lower then the average of the items you put in.

Don’t worry though, as you aren’t actually being hurt. You can throw those lower level items back into the forge and can get an 80 back so in the long run you aren’t losing anything.

Plus some of those lower level items are worth a lot more than a similar level 80 items due to the rarity of the skin.
