Yeah there is a lot of counters to mes from many classes, AOE for the fun of it.

I do have to say though, it is rather funny to see a ranger complaining about a mesmer in a sPvP thread. Classic.

Yeah the specializations will be playing a big role in this. Ive said it several times in other posts, without really knowing what they will do, we can only compare the reverant to what we now have. The reverant actually makes me think were going to see a lot of new game play in guild wars 2 with all classes because its so obviously overboard.

It definitely is OP to our current game play, but I dont think were going to be staying in the current game play.

I agree, I do want to know, but doubt I will get to. I want to start putting together my build for the specialization on guard, though I think I already have it worked out if it is LB.

Two, also take in mind, they may want people starting these new features “fresh” and together to keep the challenge alive.

Yeah there are a lot of philosophies here. Honestly its hard to recognize when someone is dueling and not. Ive been complained to for staying out of what I thought was a duel and jumping in a duel I thought was not a duel.

With both of those happening, I dont really care anymore. If I attack and someone whispers for me to stop on my side, I will. With that said, I do respect the common places for duels.

Yeah definitely depends on the armor. Before rolling a toon though look into cultural armor. The asuran t3 heavy is nice. You can copy and paste the links into the GW chat to preview them on your toon.

Guardian or Revenant?

Guards are fun, though slow. The revenant, first off there is no release date on that yet, second, its a completely different idea than guard. While its melee its ranged melee.

Given the revenants abilities though, Im thinking that specializations are going to bring a whole new idea to the game that will bring other classes up to it.

Ohh youre talking about the AH Frontline build? Doubtful. Using JI in a zerg v zerg fight is dangerous and too unpredictable for you to coordinate.

I run a medi guard in the backline to help snipe casters and protect my own, and I have to be very careful on when and where I JI. Ive made the mistake of teleporting right into a bomb on several occasions.

Nahh there is a definitely an issue. Ive watched keeps in EBG stay contested for hours because of someone who is just too good at running off. And if by chance they are caught and killed they just come right back.

Ive watched Nike Warriors contest an enitire EBG third on other servers. And thieves being able to keep waypoints closed constantly.

You are right though, we wouldnt want to do something where it takes something so serious that a zerg in the middle of taking a keep cant keep it contested.

Maybe a requirement of number of people in the vicinity or something. Something needs to happen, every night this weekend SoS EBG keep has been contested constantly by Nike/Condi Ranger, you kill him, he comes right back.

But its definitely a problem, A server shouldnt lose a way point to one person, that shouldnt happen.

Yeah, Likely a P/D thief. Sounds like it. They are troublesome and true 5 people should be able to win against one or at least chase it off. Though, I still personally think that it shouldnt be that much of a problem.

The thief class, something needs to happen to back it up a little bit. Its too enabled in open field. Thieves should be hiding in the dark and around corners, not owning stuff out on the battle field. At the same time, then what will it do?

Im hoping Revenant will have an anti-stealth mechanism to it, as its lore (Wears a Blindfold and detects its enemies with magic and other senses) dictates it.

With that said, it also makes sense to me that light fields would be anti-stealth, but they are not.

Im personally thinking that if the LB specialization would allow for both (either or at a time) a support line and a DPS line it would be pretty good.

It would be real nice if it contained some decent soft CC’s and maybe something similar to the Ice storm from Frost Bow. Allowing Guards to do better clearing siege and so on.

I do have to say, less reliance on energy sigils and more speed would be nice though.

I disagree, its bad enough that others have stealth, we have to show off our skills as well. I neither like the color clash nor the identification.

I think I’ve run into this Guardian in WvW before – way way OP, had loads of health and kept using some “un-guardian” skills.

If his nick was something like Commander Seigerazer, I’d report him for exploiting at once.

Nahh leave him alone, he rarely leaves spawn.

Im sure many have complained about this, but please raise the damage required to contest a waypoint.

1000 damage to a gate.

In all these updates coming, we really should see something in regards to this. Its not right that one person can tie up a waypoint that the server works to get and keep.

While I realize we cant rid this game of trolls, it would be nice to not feed them something like this.

O.K. I understand the reasoning of the requirement of a valid path on shadow steps, teleports, and blinks, but……….

When the reason is a bump no higher than the ankles on my toon, there is a problem.

Yes and no. I keep hearing about imbalance everytime I throw an OP thought into the mix. If this were a balanced game, IE D/D eles and P/D thieves were fixed, then I would agree with you, its pretty OP. But Im just looking to see guards get up with the rest of the OP mix.

Yeah, Im noticing the only thing we really have to our name is damage and bunker.

I think Ive put together the best youre going to get between the two and honestly I would just like to see a few tweaks.

End the reliance on energy sigils. I mentioned in another post about making Vigorous Precision only proc when youre below 50% endurance.

I think that one there there would destroy the hard counter of d/d eles. It would allow me to run doom sigils.

Im not asking much out of this class, I see were exceptional with DPS.

Personally as it stands now, Rangers arent that big of a deal to me, but I can speak for ele’s being next to impossible just because they are an ele.

Also fix heals on dodge back to its full potential. That just doesnt make sense.

Yeah I think youre going to have a hard time arguing thieves ability to disengage and re-engage at will having a small nerf. They pretty much saved majority of your ability there. The tele nerf was a big thing in the guardian forums until it actually happened and even they stopped complaining with their few teles that require a target to work.

Yeah its not just EU. Lot of people are feeling it. I dont usually suffer from lag except in the most extreme FA/SBI blobs. But skill lag wrecked me in a 5v6 or something like that last night. It was pretty consistent.

Yeah, I always thought both sPvP and WvW need exclusive weapons and armor to them.

I also dont think youre going to get away from the Map Queue Blob either. Its just too OP to keep the PPT up. T2 apparently waas a fight tier before I showed up there.

It would take some dramatic changes to nullify the map queue blob. Like outnumbered being limited to area or something with adding stability buffs to it or something. (Im sure someone can find a reason why that wouldnt be a good idea. Im just rambling.)

Honestly, they need to create something inbetween sPvP and WvW. Competitive play that involves 15 to 20 people on each side.

People want it so bad they have made up their own way of accomplishing it in WvW though its a severely limited competitive play only resulting in a fight to the death. It just seems to me that would clue Anet into what would work for them.

And honestly, I think if they actually did do a 15-20 man competitive aspect t this game, they could probably get rid of EoTM as WvW would replace it.

Yeah, the stability nerf is pretty much as it sounds and as I thought it would be. It just favors the map queue blob over the 15 man wrecking machine.

And a resurgence of terrormancers will be happening in roaming, Im sure everyone with a necro is in joy right now.

Personally I wouldnt mind seeing the spirit weapon skills and traits be replaced completely with something more viable.

No one uses them or traits them. (But this is likely due to the fact that they absolutely suck.)

A ranger’s pet is more viable than those things are.

Maybe something to compliment the meditation line making Zeal more advantageous there.

But then again it well probably get the new Yoga trait line if they change it.

Yeah in this game its really hard to be able to be in a 1v1 fight unless both parties agree they will keep it that way. I.E. Duels.

To those of us that love to duel, it is a hard thing to contend with when running around looking for your size fight because zerging is boring to you only to get zerged down as you do so and lose your stacks or at best run into only 5 other people.

BTW, whoever the YB ranger is trolling the SoS EB Keep, I would have loved to stay and duel this morning but I have a job. Unfortunately I couldnt whisper you to set up another duel where I have time because youre offline or I had youre name wrong.

Way more. You can min/max better in WvW with food/oils/stones, guard buffs (once you get the WvW ranks. Make those your first priority in where you spend your points), and way more options on armor, trinkets and weapons.

sPvP limits how much you can put in damage by limiting your options to just sigils and one amulet. Your armor and weapon stats are all the same.

Just be aware, if you spec to min/max, condi is going to give you a problem.

Believe it or not (I play guard), I can justify the SY nerf. The number of condi’s in sPvP are not as drastic as in WvW and PvE. Therefore you get a lot for not really taking on much condi’s there. It could use a CD reduction though in sPvP.

SY in a zerg fight in WvW can almost insta kill you and you have to carry CoP if you want to build around it. In sPvP you can probably get away without CoP and it just becomes a ridiculous boon generator.

Selfless daring needs its full potential back in sPvP.

I dont understand why people have such a tough time with guards though, it might be because I play one that I find them the easiest in the game to fight (especially medi), but I really just dont comprehend how guard is so OP to everyone else.

Also to add, an engi has extreme potential holding points probably better than that of a bunker guard.

you already needed a target or unless I don’t know what I am talking about, so you really can’t say you used it for escape.

yeah you needed a target but they didnt have to be in range. So you could tele half way to target using sword the way it currently stands or stood. Now that no longer is an option. And yes, I have used it for escape by targeting NPC’s, other players, animals and so on. The targeting system has a much longer range than the tele’s so you used to be able to use it to to get out of dodge quick.

I might add it also kills the guardian gap closer when something else is trying to run away form you. The sword+ji gap closer will feel this hard.

Well GS + Sword/Focus are not my thing i just want to stick to ONE weapon sick of switching around

I do have to say this is asking a lot. You halve your skill set with this request. There is just too much available from weapon swapping sigils to a whole new skill bar to completely ignore the weapon swapping and still have a good build. No one can give you this really.

Also comparing 1 utility +1 adept trait (consecretion master) with using a virtue + a master trait (absolute resolution) +1 shout that will require +1 trait or rune set is just proving that Purging flames is way too strong.

Comparing a dedicated condition removal utility to non-condition removal abilities (that can offer the same condition removal through traits) doesn’t prove that anything is overpowered.

Even if you get the grandmaster trait and use runes of the trooper it will not remove as much condi as purging flames. Also it is not a dedicated condi removal, it also is a fire field, applies burning and gives -33% condi duration.

-33% condi duration is useless in pve because it only lasts 5-6 secs, firefields are more easily available to ele’s and engies, and while its decent condition removal, other classes have better, actually save yourselves is our strongest group condicleanse.

While SY is the strongest group condi clense, it really requires CoP to not kill you. So you can pretty much say SY requires two slots.

Interestingly enough, I think a short ranged 2 handed weapon would be better than LB. Maybe SB with a quick single target pull or another tele to take advantage of 2 handed mastery on short range which is generally where you are in the first place.

I just think LB is going to be too slow and out of place for the class.

1. Vigorous precision. Everything the same except, it should not perc unless you are below 50% energy. All to often when playing guard, first hit percs vigor when I didnt need it then. Complete waste of it. Its too much of a crap shoot on whether you get the benefit of it. You already have a 10 sec cooldown it would be nice if it wasnt wasted as well.

2. Whirling wrath. Should be both projectile and whirl finisher. It has both and should be treated as such. This gives the option of better personal condi clense when used in conjunction with light fields. The downfall, you waste a burst doing it. (this one may be iffy I as I havent put too much thought into the group mechanic of it, but the solo mechanic wouldnt be too much.)

3. A controlled but limited access to quickness. This allows better option to insta burst. Im finding it way to easy to dodge the guard bust IE whirling wrath. It would also fix some of the slow moving cc’s. Once again, limited but controlled. I decide when I use it.

Edited the whirling wrath suggestion, after thinking about it 7 projectiles on other fields plus s whirl could be a bit much.

Nope not a troll post. Just me admitting I was very wrong in some other posts.

True the initiative thing is very overpowered on every other class, its overpowered on every class.

I could imagine having that on my guard and unlimited blocks. Its why I said “I want that on my guard”

But I do admit, I dont see a huge problem with damage or stealth in thieves at all. And being my lack of knowledge on it and lack of playing one showed that. If youre calling for that, then likely you dont know what makes the thief strong. Just as I did.

What makes a thief strong, is the capability to exploit the limitations of the game client and no cooldowns to contend with allowing more freedom in how you set up your skills and what skills you use. Other classes get crap skills and really dont use them often and suffer the cooldowns of the ones that are important.

But to add to this reverent is going to have a even more significant advantage beyond that of thieves with slots being on a pool of energy.

I went ahead and played thief for a little while, and I do rescind the nerf on damage and stealth.

I do have two requests. Every single class have the initiative mechanic on their skills.

I want that on my guard.

Thats the main advantage thieves have, the other is exploiting the limited line of sight that the game client has.

So better detection of said thief when they are not in stealth. AOE detection takes entirely too much time. And well Infiltrate+turn the fight+CnD+Infiltrate out. That is really a much longer stealth than it seems due to limited detection out of stealth.

So yeah, those two things, every class should have the same initiative mechanic so we can have the same freedom in skills. Thats a significant class mechanic beyond that of every other class.

Two better detection when not in stealth. Much like NPC’s have on thieves.

I am seriously considering doing just that, I was keeping my tomes for the new class, but yes this has crossed my mind, lets see what this noob everyone thinks I am can do with a thief.

But if Im going to commit my time to that, I want a guaranteed nerf if I can produce the same.

And hoenstly, if I can get stuns on block with no cd and renewed focus recharging my skills as well as virtues. Id be saying the same thing you guys are “Naahhh this is not overpowered its still got these holes and and well if its 10 good people they could take me down, but no noobs.”

Like I said, a thread has been created called nerf wish list because so many people keep coming to this forum saying “Hey Im tired of this” and you want to make fun of that fact. The proof is right there.

Its either bring every class up or nerf you. There is no reason thieves should be that dominant in this game that it has everyone complaining just because you think you should one shot people and get away with it.

It kittenes a lot of people off and makes them enraged to the point they are ranting on forums just like I did.

Ohh and btw. Yeah medi guard is such a direct counter to s/d thieves there is just no possible way it can beat one.

O.K. I stand corrected on health. You guys create a lot of vile in people for a reason. You guys make fun of it here but the mass complaints about thieves show a problem.

People arent in here complaining constantly because youre not constantly putting them in no win situations because you have a class mechanic of too much insta damage that is extremely hard to counter if not impossible in too many situations.

Bottom line in a game where visual understanding of your target, reacting to animations, reacting to environment and there is some class that negates every single bit of that leaving you with no way to react or counter it because you dont know its there well thats called entirely too unfair. And itsd class mechanic that is doing it. I really dont mind your damage, if I could react to it coming.

Im sure many have said the line “Well I was about to gg that guy except that thief showed up.”

Stealth is extremely powerful in a game that doesnt rely on radar for enemy detection.

I mean we even get a red circle on the ground to let us know where a cannon is about to hit and it generally does less damage than you can. The most damage in the game (Necro Wells) require some significant coordination with many people setting it up to get the full potential of it due to all the animation on the ground. In small groups a power necro is a setting duck.

Ohh and that Mighty blow is a 4 sec cd, but its animated, good players dodge more often than not unless I immob them and that has a looooong cd and is easily dodged by the right person.

If everyone had a thief detector, I dont think anyone would be complaining. We rely on visual understanding of the environment to play this game in every single aspect but when thieves come into play.,

A warrior adds, well Ive rotated that fight around enough to see them coming, I know its going to happen, I need to save a stun breaker. A ranger add from a distance, well he might get a couple of rapid fire shots off on me.

Thief, thsat fight needs to be a 1v1 fight and I have to be fully concentrated on you and not worried about anything else to beat you. I have to use aegis, the tell tale blind, my own one AOE blind, and every AOE I have.

People can learn to fight a mes, engi, and whatever else by fighting them more and more to understand their animations and their tell tale signs. Even a mes, mighty blow and ring of warding screws up a shatter in a heart beat. Killing clones with AOE seems to be the way to fight those guys. I dont know yet I havent gotten a chance. Regardless its animated. Even them as an Add, I can reset that fight sand get out before they add anything significant to it.

I dont mind getting gg’s by players that out played me. Thats just something to learn from, but when I get gg’d and there is no counter in the game to it. Thats a problem.

The reason I call for more squishy thieves is you need to pay a price. A thief revealed open field shouldnt be so quick and easy to jump back into stealth. In a game where we rely on sight stealth is a huge defense.

We need something, we hit you in stealth numbers pop and you are revealed. I hit you with a sword while in stealth I should feel that therefore I should have a way of knowing that happened.

Long Cooldown on stealth after BackStab so when you do this you risk the chance of exposure. Your risk is too low. It needs to be higher to make you think twice before just running up out of no where.

And 5k is a significant amount of damage, half of your insta damage and severely animated. So what does that tell you about 10K backstabs if 5k is significant? Ohh and you disappeared right after doing so.

Thieves should be having to find the perfect situation to jump in as their risk level should be extremely high. You add to a fight out of no where with that much damage, you need to be risking a 10k hit yourself.

Why shouldnt you risk an insta 10K hit? Everyone else does because of you.

Look I get it, you guys got something good and awesome and you dont want to lose that. SO you down play it. But a thief is the only add that can walk right in and take half my health, thats bs to a heavy class and then when I actually hit you with a hammer when you do add it only takes a small amount of health. 2 power thieves and Im definitely in trouble. And Im talking about good thieves not some idiot that thinks hes just going to gg me real quick with no work. Yeah Ill definitely make a new thief hurt but Ive put a lot of work in guards, but an experienced one can be very hard, two is overwhelming. And IM tired of thieves jumping in a fight im about to win and now all of a sudden I have almost no health because I was at half and about to gg some dude that I definitely just overpowered and out maneuvered.

Thieves force people to zerg because they dont want to just hang out and get ganked because there is like 5 of them sitting outside spawn and you cant shoo em off even when a 30 man zerg comes through. They run off for a minute and come right back. They should be able to be quickly caught and sent back to spawn with no stacks if they hang out there for too long.

You get in a 1v1 with someone ohh look OP thief just jumped in and hit my heavy armor with a dagger and somehow that one move just did more damage to me than this guy Im fighting did in total through out the fight. And when I turn around to blast em with a hammer, he only takes 4-5K damage.

If this was a 1v1 game, no thieves wouldnt be overpowered, but the fact that they can jump in a fight and just immediately change that fight to your loss no matter the situation because you dont see them coming and you cant see them coming? Thats BS.

Even a ranger and its long range cant change a fight on me like that. They have to finish their rapid shot for that to happen and you can definitely dodge the majority of the damage unless youre caught with no energy.

Obviously Im not discussing the thief who is 2 months into playing one. Im discussing long time thieves that are very good. The difference between thieves in t2 and t3 is dramatic(in general, IM sure there are good ones in each tier). The thieves I fought in t5 and t6 were no where close to the ones I see in t2 on average. Im probably not even discussing average thieves right now as to what I have to contend with except for in a zerg situation and then I just find the thieves and isolate them out of the fight and kill them. Worse case scenerio they get away and are not able to screw with my backline.

What Im tired of is going out of spawn/waypointed keep and ohh look there is 5 thieves hanging right outside. Thus the other post about thieves being toxic.

In other words, there is definitely a point when thieves becomes overpowered. They have the potential of being the most dominant class in the game, whether someone who sucks doesnt reach that potential or not doesnt mean its not overpowered. And its not due to a difference in experience of people its due to the class mechanic itself. Its just too much instant damage with stealth or not squishy enough.

You dont pay enough price for that damage and stealth. I pay a significant price for power and damage through low defense, if I want a higher defense I pay for it in damage. Youre the only ones that doesnt have to pay for defense and on top of it the 10K crit is just too much.

Your inherent health pool needs to be knocked down to that of eles and guards or you need to go down to light armor ratings or you need to lose some damage. You got to lose something for stealth and mobility. Even Mesmers have to wear light armor and they have a 3rd of the stealth you do.

You dont pay a price between defense and damage in this game like everyone else does. We have to balance defense and power. You dont have to really worry about that like other classes do due to extended stealth. The end and that is an absolute truth.

For you just about every fight is a one on one fight unless you choose it not to be, everyone else its a free for all and they have to balance health, ac, and power to compensate getting jumped by others.You dont because of stealth. Its entirely too low risk for you allowing you to spec too much damage for that low risk.

Ya I could run out in WvW full nomads/clerics but couldnt kill anything if I wanted to but it is a low risk build. You guys need more risk in your builds or less reward. Its just that simple.

Yeah pretty much, meta medi counters it, Im not running medi completely anymore as in situations of outnumber, it blows up entirely too easy, as a matter of fact I blow up most meta medi guards entirely too easy.

The one reason it counters power thief is the number of blocks, they just kill you first for the most part. A thief fighting them is about whether or not the medi can kill you before his blocks run out.

Because HP and armor is not there. Which makes it a 1v1 class, one add and youre pretty much done unless they are absolutely dumb founded. IT has problems with a lot of other classes except thief. So I can either fight thieves or everyone else.

Once again, Mighty blow is hard to land on a thief, they are fast, they move quick. Mighty blow is pretty telegrpahed in nature. (All that makes a ton of sense, you should be good at evasion, it should be hard to hit you with something that big and with that animation to warn you of it coming so you can use evasion to get out of the way)

True there, I beat many thieves but either have to be locked into scepter or sword focus build of which I hate scepter, dont like the feel of it. I can play it, but dont like it. And if its a smart thief its a simple kite game for the thief.

General medi build is horrible when it comes to outnumbered situations. So you rebuild to that and all of a sudden thief is now viable against you again. I can 1v5 warriors and kill at least one on my current build. Necros, forget about it they have no chance.

Rangers not a problem, havent had a chance to test it out with a good mes though.

And honestly havent had a chance to test it out against a thief as lately Im seeing them run 3-4 at a time.

In sPvP there wasnt a single thief that could muster enough power to be significant. WvW its different.

I paid for this game and spent money and tend to spend money here and there on gems, if I dont see a buff else where on other toons or a nerf on thief, Im going to spend my money else where.

I’m really confused as to what you think is wrong with thief. They can’t muster enough power to be significant and are only marginally more powerful in WvW. You beat plenty of them with one build and are capable of losing to them with another which is apparently capable of going 1v5 with Warriors and gives necros no shot.

Above, you complain about thief mobility and that they are so hard to catch that when you finally do hit them it should be GG. The thing is, with the exception of Condi thief, a thief that you can’t hit is as much a threat to you as you are to him.

The primary line of defense for a thief is stealth. A thief in stealth does 0 DPS and can still take damage. Unlike every other class that survives through regen, prot, aegis, stability, condi cleanse, damage reducing cooldowns, etc. The thief has absolutely none of this except for rarely-active, conditional regeneration sources and condition cleanse that requires you to sit in stealth. Most Thief builds are also running full glass cannon stats just to have their damage matter at all.

Beyond stealth, the only thing left for thieves is not getting hit at all by dodging and being straight up out of range, which also cripples thief DPS.

Thieves are good at dictating whether or not they are fighting / fightable and that is the only thing they have going for them at the moment. Back when GW2 launched, D/D thief would run around and drop every class in a short burst, back out, and repeat 30 seconds later. For 6 months they only rolled out nerfs to S/D and mobility. Now we burst less than many classes and still have all those misplaced mobility nerfs.

First you are picking apart what I said, I didnt say I could 1 v 5 warriors, they killed me in the end, but not without one dying.

sPvP is a whole different ball game where guard has the only nerfed skill from PvE and WvW. Save Yourselves. Which took all the boons and made them 5-6 sec in sPvP vs the 13-14 they should be.

Second thief stealing a daze from guard, exactly what daze did that thief steal? What in the guards kitten nal is a daze?

Third, I have easily 300 in power less in sPvP. It changes my burst as well, but your power in sPvP is unable to overcome my 20k health in sPvP quick enough. Im able to manage that no problem while I run around with about 2K power. I give up some condi clense or stab for that 20k health and rely on CoP for stab.

Yes Necros are pretty much a no go 1v1. Terorrmancer can be problemmatic, just dont fight in their fear lines, and I have 3 stun breakers, get stability from them by converting fear with CoP.

Engis, the last fight I had with one, I got kitteny after handing a necro and a warrior their deaths (separately) and well dumbly fought in the crap he threw on the ground because I got too kitteny after the other 2.

Mesmer I dont know yet.

But ultimately, you will not find an engi, mesmer, guard, warrior, ele, any class in the game that can accomplish this in WvW (no matter how good they are):

Those moments when you are not in stealth you need to be very vulnerable to attacks to strike you down before you disappear again or the amount of time in stealth needs to go away.

Specifically the first video at about 7:30. That should be impossible just as it is for any other class.
