But again you must read the reactions of the ppl in every forums and games …

GW2 Devs must takes the holidays Breaks (Christmass + Summer) = that means -3 less contents months
an extra —3 or -4 if the need time to create the next x-pack
= that means with yearly x-pansions there will less conent ingame (just like last year , when the game launhed in China or even this year content)……
Even the ppl in WoW hate it … and neither we have the next date for the WOw x-pack (they original planned 1 yeal x-packs – that one that the old gg are w8 to listen…)

And your idea of less money = that automatically GW2 will goes into the ’’passive’’ mode where it will stop risking to inovate things and will adopt the other games behavour , where they will w8 and copy-paste other games riskless ideas …

Cant you understand that ?
Or shall be harsh enought to be Banned again for 10 days , while i atacked a prestigious PvE raider in a CDI ?

I am not sure what you are getting at?

Are you saying that if GW2 was to release an expansion each year, that it will be less content in-game?

Also on your timeline, you basically leave 4-6 months of development for each expansion per year. Which isn’t entirly accurate. There are no summer breaks in the work place (Unless it’s a seasonal job, like landscaping, or house painting). And generally (at least in the US) any major holidays (i.e. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Independance day, etc.) usually only give a 3 day weekend, not muliple week breaks. In same cases, some employers may give a few additional days off between Christmas and New Years, but not often.

You also seem to be forgetting that Anet has been working on this project for quite some time. Its been aluded to many times last year that Anet was working on “big projects” in the background, but wouldn’t hint at or say anything else.

Ascended vs Exotic Gear (math)

@ pdavis
Looking at stats alone is a relatively useless comparison. Stats are meaningless numbers unless actually plugged into the formulae that make them matter.

Very true

But I was referring to the raw stat increase. Which is the argument being made over Ascended vs. Exotic and the difference between the two.

In the discussions that the OP was referring to, that 5% increase almost always comes up. And it is true. There is only a 5% increase in stats over exotic.
Of course that means something else when plugged into the right formula, and in terms of effectiveness.

But when people are talking about ascended vs exotic, its the stats that are most often brought up, and not the effectiveness of ascended vs exotic.

Ascended vs Exotic Gear (math)

Nice work.

But there is a difference between effectiveness, and a perctange of stat increases, which is what is commonely referred to as being 5% better than exotic.

Look at beserker helm.
Exotic: Ascended:
Defense: 121 127
Power: 45 47
Precision: 32 34
Ferocity: 32 34

Defense difference:
4.8387% difference
Power difference:
4.3478% difference
Precision/ferocity Difference:
6.0606% difference

(Formula ( | V1 – V2 | / ((V1 + V2)/2) ) * 100
http://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/algebra/percent-difference-calculator.php)

Then we take the average of those differences in each stat, it comes to 5.3269%

So according to the straight stat number from exotic to ascended, we find that ascended has ~5% increase in stats over exotic armor.

Life force isn’t hard to get…

Here are all the things that grant life force that don’t require killing things.

Ok im trying to change myself so im not gonna say anything offense, but maybe you should think if you understand what topic is about and if your input is gonna improve the topic in some way. If you are not trolling and just new to PVP then i thank you for trying to help me.

So the discussion that LF is based on RNG, and because it’s difficult to fill, makes it so the class feels way underpowered and easily rekt because without LF you can’t use your class mechanic to it’s full potential. correct?

It all depends on what your set up. I run necro is PvP often, and never really hard a problem gaining life force to be able to pop DS when needed.
I run staff and scepter/dagger (condi build).
If you are relying on DS for your build, it would make sense to use all the LF gaining abilities you can.
It also depends on your play style. For me, I generally do back line offense. Bomb the point with staff marks, switch to scepter and bomb AoE and use FoC after they have a few conditions on them. I also run signet of undeath.

You may not agree with my assessment, but from my experience, I’ve never had a problem with LF.

Having my toons from various MMO’s, GW2 included made into miniatures to be painted has always been a very tempting idea.

I’ll probably invest in the idea one day, although if the community made RPG gets going, that could be a cool link up

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/creations/GW2-Tabletop-RPG-Q-A/first#post5052890

The RPG is well underway. We’ve been going at it for 3 months now, and are nearing the first Alpha test.

And yes, something like this would be awesome and amazing for this project!

It's time to get rid of EoTM

in WvW

pdavis.8031

So the topic is remove EotM because “Reasons” (i.e. It takes away resources from WvW, it encourages k-tran/blob, isn’t fun, it belong in PvE, etc…)

By that same logic lets remove dungeons. All dungeons are is a zerk/stack afk fest that has too high of rewards.

There is no reason to get rid of it. The map wasn’t made to be a k-train, quick rank/leveling system. The players turned it into that. I remember when it first launched, there were actual fight, people defending, capping points, etc. Just like in WvW. It was certainly more fast paced than WvW, which made it cool. But people saw an opportunity, and took advantage of it. That isn’t really a reason to get rid of it. As said before, if you don’t like it, don’t play it.

Why should a part of the game be removed because a few players don’t like it?

WvW Gear, make them salvage-able!!

in WvW

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

Don’t know if it’s been asked or not, but I see the topic come up every so often.
What was the main reason for WvW gear being unsalvagable? What it for an economic reason? Or mechanical?

As it is its fairly easy to get, so I could see having a large influx of ecto because of it. Also having to rebuy runes could be part of the reason. But otherwise it doesn’t make much sense. Instead of being able to salvage directly, what about being able to be forged?

A lot of different factors go into decisions like that one, but economic effects were part of the decision process for sure.

Server transfer costs don't make sense

in WvW

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

True, but they are still paying.
Plus all that gold means that people had to play the game, which is their main goal anyway. But in order to do that, they had to buy an account.
So in the end, Anet gets money and people playing the game. Which is exactly what they want.

However, going on a stretch here, it might mean that the current transfer system encourages to buy more accounts. To a part this might be even true, when someone realizes that sometimes it’s cheaper to buy a new account and start on another server than the actual transfer costs. But again we are only assuming. No1, who claimed that the system actually works, has provided thus far anything conclusive. It might be a reasonable assumption, but it is not more than that. So presenting it as fact is not honest.

The problem with buying a new account, is that on a sale, the initial cost may be lower than a transfer. But there is the time invloved. You need to re-roll new characters, get their traits, gear them out, etc.
The time investment + the cost of a new account, just to transfer is far more than just buying the gems and transferring.
But if you are dead set on transferring for free, you can always delete all your characters, put everything into the bank (i.e. anything non-soulbound), and do it that way. You can transfer for free, and you get to keep your gold, ascended, mats, and any leveling tomes you may have.

Which would be a far better option than buying a new account to transfer.

I think these things should be regulated. Like I said, in ESO it is free to change servers, why does it cost 10$ in GW2? I’ve already wasted over 50$ in transfer fees just because the servers were dying due to lousy matchups repeating months after months.

You spent $50 in transfer fee in the last 3 years. System is working as intended.

The transfer cost is meant to be gold sink, the server population status is broken for more than a year since mega server.

How is transferring servers meant to be a gold sink?
Transferring serves costs gems, not gold.
You can buy gems for cash, or for gold. However, the gem exchange cost for gems to gold goes up as more gold is used to buy gems. Which is meant to be a disincentive to buy gems with gold, and use cash instead.

PvP Metas: Do they make sense?

I personally never cared for the meta. When I play pvp with my friends, we generally play to have fun, and not rank on some leader board. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but overall we have a good time. Ive looked at the meta specs, but the never really looked interesting to me. I often change my build frequently between matches to better fit my play style.

But right now I’m looking at building a group condi cleanse bunker/support guardian. It sounds fun

I think Anet gave up on this problem long ago.

It’s not a problem in Anet’s eyes because people are still paying to transfer. They don’t care where the players go, as long as they are still prepared to pay to transfer, which clearly they are.

I read this statement all the time. However, other than assumptions, I never saw anything conclusive for this. The only time I transferred, when transfer costs existed, was through a friend giving me the gold to turn it into gems. And I know that guilds also have such “programs”, where they help others to transfer by giving you gold.

True, but they are still paying.
Plus all that gold means that people had to play the game, which is their main goal anyway. But in order to do that, they had to buy an account.

PvP Metas: Do they make sense?

in PvP

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

So a discussion was started in another thread that was way off topic. So I am continuing that discussion here.

The main premise revolves are the meta builds. Specially shoutbow warrior. The argument is that the warrior shoutbow isn’t really what a warrior is about, and even though it’s the meta, it’s a boring OP spec.

My thoughts are just because it’s “meta” doesn’t mean that it’s the only way to play. This goes for every class. People tend to forget where and why a meta was created. They tend to blame the game mechanics, and that said mechanics forces people to use the current meta. And if you aren’t doing so you are subpar and not playing to your full potential. I feel that this is bunk.
Although the meta may be the best, it’s certainly doesn’t limit anyone or force them to use it. One can be effective with a variety of builds, in a variety of ways, without ever getting close to the meta. It’s all in how you want to play your class.

What are your thoughts on the meta, and do the metas accurately reflect what a particular class is “all about”?

nice try..yet now it’s like…they aren’t versatile at all…realy you couldn’t see this coming? here is my counter to that reply of yours, atm in pvp meta warriors aren’t versatile at all for all they can do is kite and healshout/cleanse my suggestion is, give that task to the… ow idk, guardian? an ele even maybe but no they are full blown dps/burst classes and the warrior get’s to be the monk lol. who decides how the class should be played? let’s think this through for a second….ask anyone even people who don’t play games what their vision of a warrior is….it’s not a condi cleansing shouthealer bro… in books movies and nearly all other games…a warrior is a fighter not healer/cleanser this is the part they try to be different at and imo ( and many others) they fail at it to the fullest… I know players who play shoutbow only cause of it’s viablity but can’t wait to have a different meta again fo they all say, shout bow is as boring as it get’s

So a warrior, or any class for that matter, has the option to spec for pure DPS, pure defense, pure control, pure support, etc. But that doesn’t work because X class should only be able to do XYZ. A warrior shouldn’t be able to support or heal, a necro shouldn’t be able to control or DPS, a guardian shouldn’t be able to DPS or control, etc.?

Yeah, no.

But this is getting VERY off topic, and really has nothing to do with the perception that necro’s and mesmers are OP and need to be nerfed. I suggest we continue this discussion elsewhere, if at all.

shoutbow for example…having to bring cleansing ire….a rune for anti condi (no one wants to roll trooper rune deep inside it’s heart…btw it’s copy paste wvw build) an anti condi weapon (warhorn) traited even….nearly all utility skills (shouts)…dude that’s overkill spec in order to survive condi’s…and entirely takes away what the warrior is about….runes traits weps everything should be anti condi in order to be realy viable….a warrior realying on cleansing ire alone stands no chance if it’s not rolling lb as well…..my point exactly…condi ask to much of defence….while in it’s self is defence vs power or anything alrdy…as well as burst…defence…how?….chill nulliefies many melee builds alone….so does immobalize..or blind…..

And what is a warrior all about?
From the wiki: Warriors are masters of martial skills. They’re versatile in combat and benefit from offensive and defensive abilities. Warriors inspire allies and demoralize enemies.

A warrior in GW2 is versatile. Meaning they can do many different things. Offensive and defensive.

The game allows any profession to play in a varity of ways without locking players into a certain play style. The meta is player created. The game doesn’t force anyone into the meta. Players do that to themselves.

So because a warrior is allowed to play purely defensively with shoutbow, and by choosing the right traits and gear in order to do so, they aren’t playing a warrior how it was meant to be played?

And who decides how any particular class is meant to be played?

tho, it’s to easy for condi spec to gain control of power builds quite fast….in fact, it’s way to easy…..way way to easy, chill immob spam anyone? blind? block etc etc….

Again, it’s because they focus on dealing as much damage as possible, and not for defense. Those specs don’t run much in the way of defense/cleanses at all. Thats why they are referred to as “glass”.

If they specced for defense then they wouldn’t be “power” now would they?

Does that make conditions overpowered? Not at all. It’s one of the risks of running that build.

it actually is a problem with the game, not enough reward to do otherwise wich is exactly what I would like to see changed…but won’t happen if poeple just keep talking about more condi buff when in reality and as shown in game on daily basis,,…..condi cleanse is lackluster…except on few full meta builds

Personal reward, or team reward? If you can hold a point near indefinitely using a pure bunker build, and play well, you get rewarded accordingly.

It’s not that we want a condition buff, we want the whole system changed. The problem with conditions is that they get overridden too easily. As a necro I can get 18 stacks on a target by myself. But as a stack drops off, and the cap is met by others running non condi specs. (i.e. incidental conditions) my stacks get overridden, and suddenly my conditions aren’t doing anything. Although this is more of an issue in PvE than PvP. Apparently they are changing this in HoT and it’s a good thing. But this doesn’t really have anything to do with the topic at hand.

well the cars can be explained…they are overpriced…the skills are here for pick up…yet unused…why tho? cause their functionality isn’t as good as it seems on paper at first sight..people never tried them? ofc they have….probably a million times…they are just badly designed especially compared to other condi cleansing options. condi cleanse is lackluster atm….except on ranger…survival ranger (imo) has awesomely designed and functional condi cleansing

While they may be lackluster, the question is why?
I maintain one of the main reasons is the philophy of PvP. DPS is king. If by using those specs you aren’t doing as much damage. So it’s better not to use them, rely on limited self cleansing, and kill the enemy before they can overwhelm you with conditions. That way you can put more into dealing damage.

Thats not inheritantly a problem with the game. It’s a problem with the players. They take full advantage of what the game allows, and thus ignore the other end of the spectrum.

also instead of insulting or mocking people or shoving words in their mouth I come up with arguements…open for debate wich is what the forum is ment for…I suggest you limit yourself to this and come up with arguements instead of semi insults…for the examples given earlier from ranger and guard about the condi cleanse are invalid and completely unused except for healing spring at some times….it’s true and you know it

No insult, or mocking was intended. Just pointing out what you yourself said about condition specs. (Which is not putting words in your mouth.)

The debate is that there are plently of ways to completely negate conditions, thus rendering condition specs impotent. (without power)

Again, just because they aren’t widely used doesn’t negate their value.
The main philosphy in PvP, is do as much damage in the shortest amount of time possible (i.e. DPS). (This also goes for PvE and WvW to a degree, but thats beside the point). Thus thats the reason few play those specs. Also, the tools are there, but they aren’t effective if they don’t get used. I’m actually now thinking of using a purely support/cleanse build for my guardian just to watch all those OP condi specs rage about it :P

My argument is that there are more classes, and more ways, to clear conditions from allies than a shoutbow warrior, and an elementalist. And I believe that I proved it rather well. Ranger, Necro, and Guardian have several ways to group clear conditions (outside of finishers). It doesn’t matter if they don’t get used. The tools are there.
That doesn’t negate that argument. Its similar to saying that Rolls Royce’s are not good cars because there are very few people that use them. Or Red Hat Linux isn’t a good operating system because not a lot of people use it.

Spirit of Nature: Cures conditions on allies

Guardians:
Torch: Cures conditions on allies
Purging Flames: Cures Conditions on allies
Bow of Truth: Cures conditions on allies
Tome of Courage: Cures conditions on allies

Of course you need to build/spec for it, just like shoutbow. But they have multiple ways to cure conditions on allies. But the issue lies in that those specs aren’t “meta” thus very few people play them. The skills are there, and can be very effective, if used.

I am saying that shoutbow warriors, necros, and elementalists are not the only ones able to cure conditions on others.

uhu…cute…but how many of these guards and rangers do we see in pvp reality…. exactly, none…only in full premade teams maybe….but even in premade teams such rangers aren’t seen for well over…idk, 2 years now? (tbh…same goes for these guards, ye lets all go stand in the fire of the guardian so we can all get spiked together) bow of truth…realy…when is the first or last time u seen that being viable…… exactly…never ever anywhere

So just because “no-one” plays those specs, doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
And because they don’t get played very much doesn’t mean that these classes don’t have the capability.

Also with the changes to the condi system with HoT, these specs just may become much more useful and sought after.

And why wouldn’t you run these specs?
If you are facing a high condi team, why wouldn’t you change your build to counter it?
Not even considering such things, because its not “meta” or its not “viable” is just silly.
No wonder people complain that condis are OP….

Yeah, just type in GW2, or Guild Wars 2 into the play store.
There aren’t very many. Most of them are basically duplicates of another (i.e. Event timers, Crafting trackers, wiki database, etc.)

Some of the timer ones are ok, I’ve used a crafting one to keep track of what I needed for my legendary, and the data base ones were alright. But I didn’t really find them useful though. If I was playing the game and needed a timer, it was easier to pull up the Overwolf world boss app, and have it on screen, than to pull up an app on my phone.

a lot of HP
so much toughness that makes guardians a joke

Nerf those classes a little, this is beyond unbalanced and unfair against other classes.

As much as I REALLY dislike mesmers I don’t think they are OP.
A well played [insert class here] can ruin anyones day. It’s not limited to certain classes.

I play a necro, and more often than not I get rekt. (Although I am not that good so….)
However, conditions are awesome, if played right, can certainly do some damage. But there is a drawbacl to condis. They can be cleansed fairly easily, thus rendering them useless. But if the player blows their cleanses early, basically allowing the necro to go unchecked, they can be devestating. It just requires some thoughtful counterplay.
Nothing about necro is really OP or in need of a nerf. If anything necros need a buff.

keep close to the ranger and they’ll have a much harder time taking you down. if you want necro tips/support.
Post in the necro section.

Aslo necros are not seen as OP, they’re bottom of the barrel.

Terrormancers are seen as OP by many who play against them. If specced right, with the right runes (nightmare) and utilities. A good terrormancer can keep a decent fear chain going, basically rendering you unable to do anything, while your health ticks away.
Wellomancers with a staff can hold a point rather well (no pun intended). And if the player is good enough can 1vX for a surprising amount of time.
Condi necros can also ruin your day and keep a great amount of pressure on.

Necros are in a good place in PvP, not really OP, or useless. They do have some hard and soft counters (like every other class), but require a different play style than something like a pew pew ranger.

Oooh I see. Then that’s really great ^^

I was just worried cuz it looked like you and your team had put a lot of effort forward on this project, and it would have been really sad to see it become something you had to let go of over something like that >.<

I think that this whole idea sounds really neat, and I wish you guys the best of luck in completing it ^^ Will it be a coded website type deal, or strictly an irl board game? :o

We are going for the physical tabletop style game, however for our Alpha tests (and subsequent Beta tests) we will be using an online virtual tabletop (Roll20).
But once we have a compiled set of rules, tables, numbers, etc. there should be no reason that someone couldn’t configure Roll20 (or other virtual tabletop) to those settings and play that way.

Just letting you know that if you are planning to make profit on this I think it can infringe on copyright laws if you did not get permission from guildwars creators to do this.

And even if you aren’t planning to make a profit, it can still be viewed as that. Not trying to be a party crasher, just trying to give a heads up that if your idea gets enough notice you might be questioned about it or told to stop, or worse x_x A lot of companies are pretty severe on what they allow and disallow D;

That was one of our major concerns before we even started this project.
I was assured by Gaile Gray, that this being a not for profit, community project, that there should be no problems with going forward.

Also from the Content terms of use:
Can I write a story, book, poem, musical composition, etc., based on your game?
We appreciate the creative processes and the passion of our fans, but it’s essential that we maintain commercial control over our product. Therefore, commercial productions are all sourced from ArenaNet and/or NCsoft.

However, as long as such usage follows the parameters listed above, we do permit the use of our game world and our characters in literary or musical pieces intended for personal use only, such as those posted on or released through a non-profit website. We do not permit the unauthorized use of our game world, our characters, or any other elements of our game in any form that involves profit or commercial benefit, such as novels, short stories, articles, unauthorized contest or competition entries, screenplays, action figures, theatrical productions, or other adaptations of our game.
(Bolded the part that concerns this project.)

So as long as we are not trying to make money off of this, and we most certainly aren’t, and provide the proper copyright information (as outlined in the content terms of use) then there should be no problems. As this falls into the “For personal use/(does not) invlove profit or commercial benefit” clause of the terms.

The idea has been brought up, but the implementation on a 2d surface is a bit daunting. But right now it’s onthe back burner as we want to get combat nailed down first.

Update:

Our team has been working on this project for about 3 months now.
We are creating a brand new system to better capture the things we love about GW2. It’s definitly a work in progress. However, we are nearing our first Alpha test. (YAY!! So excited!!!)

We don’t have a rough timeline, but after the first Alpha test, we will move on to closed Betas (when we fix the glaring problems that will surely arise when our ideas hit the table)

But I just wanted to give you guys an update and let you know that we are still working on this project, and actually making a lot of progress.

Also we are getting closer to needing artwork. If you would like to contribute, or know someone who would, please contact me.

I didnt factor in each different stat per armor. So 23 different stat types over 6 different skins adds in an additional 828 different pieces, just for light dropped armor. And of course you have about the same for crafted armor, and all the named light armor. So that makes up for the rest, so 3000 isnt that All that far fetched.

You forgot item level and upgrade (rune, in this case). These also matter.

That said, there’s only about 5500 armor pieces of the right level to give silk, and that includes non-salvagables. His estimate of ~1000 or so silk-bearing armor pieces should be pretty good.

Wow!
Talk about a blast from the past….
but yes there are plenty of ways to get silk. I dont see why it needs to be changed again.

How do we know that condition duration isn’t going to be tied into a new trait?
We do know that some traits will be removed, others added, and some changed.

So you still don’t understand the most basic point of this discussion, that stats are going to be removed from traits? Despite how it has been said over and over and over?

Well, I’ll repeat for you: stats are going to be removed from traits.

So no, condition damage or duration or power or precision won’t be “tied into a new trait”. We know that because ArenaNet has spoken about it, and it has been heavily discussed in the forum and read by those who were paying attention.

Considering how that’s the exact reason why people are asking for a gear respec, what do you think you have been talking about in this topic?

The basic point of this discussion is: That my gear may become obsolete and unplayable and I want to change it for free.

Also you missed the part where I talked about secondary stats (i.e. condition duration, boon duration, etc.) Which are far different than primary stats. (i.e. Power, precision, condition damage.)

Yes stats are being removed from trait lines. But they also have a system in place that allows players to have the same stats as before. As said in the blog (if you were paying attention)

But if stats are being removed from traits, and being awarded from different sources (as said in the blog if you paid attention) why should a gear stat re-roll be given?

How will conditions be MORE useful with the advent of condi immunity as a boon? It really seems to me like they want to kill condi roamers altogether.

You also realize that conditions can still be applied, but they wont take effect when that boon is active right? Meaning they have the boon up, you stack on conditions, boon goes away, player gets hit with all the conditions at once. Pretty much dropping them like a rock. Don’t forget that condi immunity is a boon which means it can be stripped/converted as well.

So yeah, conditions can and will still be very useful.

I don’t see what the issue is.

It’s good you understand that.

Let me say it slowly: people who like to play smart plan their builds. Which means, when people pick the stats they want to have, they do so considering the stats they get with the combination of gear and traits.

So if someone is making a build focusing on Power, Precision, Condition Damage and Condition Duration… With the gear options we currently have, that player would get gear focusing on Power, Precision and Condition Damage. What about condition duration? The player would get it from traits, and thus finish his build.

Now, stats are being removed from traits.

So, our example would get more Power, more Precision and more Condition Damage from his gear. Yay? No, irrelevant. What about the condition duration that came from the traits? Is there any gear that has the combination of condition duration + power + precision, or condition duration + power + condition damage, or condition duration + precision + condition damage?

Wow, look at that! No, there isn’t!

Which means, the stats combination that player had, the stats combination the player had planned, and the stats combination the player build his gear and his trait around – don’t exist anymore.

So, the player’s build has been invalidated. The gear he had no longer leads to the result he had.

Do you understand now, finally, why are there so many players asking for a chance to change the stats on their gear now?

And, for the records, do you have any even half good reason as to why ArenaNet shouldn’t allow people to change the stats of their items?

Ok let me write it crayon for you.

“So if someone is making a build focusing on Power, Precision, Condition Damage and Condition Duration… With the gear options we currently have, that player would get gear focusing on Power, Precision and Condition Damage. What about condition duration? The player would get it from traits, and thus finish his build.”

If someone is making a build focusing on Power, Precision, Condition Damage and Condition Duration… With the gear options we currently have, that player would get gear focusing on Power, Precision and Condition Damage. This isn’t changing. There is no reason to allow for a re-roll of stats. However, we also don’t know how secondary stats will be awarded.

" What about condition duration?"
How do we know that condition duration isn’t going to be tied into a new trait?
We do know that some traits will be removed, others added, and some changed. There is nothing to suggest that secondary stats will be removed at all. In fact, the blog concerning this, seems to point that all the stats will be pretty much the same.
There is no reason not to tie in any of the secondary stats into the primary ones. (i.e. Condi duration increases with Condition damage.

In short. We don’t have enough information to say that certain gear will become obsolete. Period. It’s an unjustified and unfounded concern.

As for a reason why not to re-roll stats. Because there is no reason TO re-roll stats. Also, gear is not becoming obsolete. Stats aren’t being removed.

This discussion reminds me of the ferocity change. Everyone was QQing and crying how the zerker meta would die, and how so unfair it was, and how now that their zerker gear was now obsolete, and they spent so much money on it, etc. etc.

Guess what? NOTHING CHANGED! Zerk is still king, and everything went back to normal within a couple of days of the implementation. The same thing will happen here.

As Lanfear and pdavis have noted above, there’s absolutely no reason to allow anyone to re-select stats for their gear. NO stat options are being removed from the game with HoT as MF was before,

They are.

Right now, we can do gear + stats from traits. Due to how gear selection is limited, there aren’t ways to convert all possible stats options from traits to gear. With the removal of stats from traits, we have lost stats combinations that are not possible with the gear we have right now.

Ergo, and rather obviously for anyone who has thought about this issue for more than half a second, there are plenty of good reasons for ArenaNet to allow people to change the stats of their gear.

It’s kinda amazing that so many people are asking for that right now and yet a few haven’t even tried to understand where that plea is coming from.

In fact, and rather obviously as well, there is no good reason for ArenaNet to not allow people to change the stats of their gear when this hit. Honestly, what do you think they would lose by doing that? Why are you even against the idea in the first place?

So the buff to gear stats to account for the loss from the traits doesn’t count?

I understand where the plea is coming from. Players have spent time and money to get a certain set of gear with a certain set of stats.

Those sets of stats are not going away. They are being buffed. As well as the base line stats on each profession.

“We feel that separating build choices from stat decisions provides greater build flexibility, so you’ll no longer gain attribute points through a given line. Where will these stats go? Here’s a quick summary:
•Base player stats will be increased from 926 to 1000.
•Base attribute points on equipment will be increased so that all the gear in the game will give higher stats than it did before. This should account for most of the missing points.
•Each profession’s attributes will be updated to have half of their functionality be part of a specialization and half of their functionality will be a baseline for that profession. For example, elementalists now have a base attunement recharge of 10 seconds, which is reduced to 8.7 seconds when the arcane specialization is equipped.

These changes should keep the total stat numbers roughly the same as they were before, even though you’ll get them from different places.”

So this change allows for greater build flexibility than with the current way of doing things.

So you can still rock your rabid gear, with buffed stats, and pick your trait lines, and still maintain the same results (if not better) than choosing stats from a trait line.
It gives more options for more builds regardless of what gear you are wearing.

I don’t see what the issue is. It seems to me that it’s mostly QQing over a fear that hasn’t been confirmed that gear selecetion is going to make build obsolete. I still don’t see how it will make alts (or mains for that matter) “unplayable” as the OP suggests.

Server transfer costs don't make sense

in WvW

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

Transfering to a server which is below the server ranking you are on should always be free.

Not sure about that. It would make match manipulation by stacking on a certain lower ranking servers way easier.

At first yes, but it would balance out over time because people can only transfer to servers with lower ranking for free and pay full price for better servers.

But what happenes when everyone transfers out of the “better” servers for free and brings up the new servers ranking?
So those “bad” servers, suddenly become “good” servers, and the “good” servers that everyone transferred from are now “bad” servers.
When that happens, everyone just transfers again, for free, and starts the process over again.

So yeah it doesn’t really work…

Thaddeus & Ropechef:

It is relevent to the concept. As the point NikeEU was making that Game developers don’t need any sort of state/government license or certification, thus the comparison of a surgeon was not correct. But the cook to game developer comparison also doesn’t work, as in many states/cities/counties in the US require a state/city/county certification and license in order to work with food.
It doesn’t matter how easy it is to obtain a permit/certification. The point is that the comparison doesn’t quite work either.

Although I am still confused as to how this whole thing came about, and what it has to do with players stacking or not…

Even a professional surgeon isn’t necessarily better at performing surgery than your average invested intelligent patient.

You know if that were true, no game company would care about degrees in game design, or work experience in the game industry.

That’s a false equivalence. Surgeons, and other professionals, are licensed by the government and/or professional associations in order to be legally allowed to practice their trade. As far as I know, there is no such barrier of entry for game designers.

A more fitting comparison would be a game designer with a cook at a restaurant. Some go to culinary school. Some start washing dishes at an Applebees. Some game designers go to college. Some start by being QA testers.

Most people will care very much where their surgeon is certified. Most will not care where their chef was trained.

Actually a chef and/or cook has to be licensed by either the local city or state government in order to work with food. They need to be legally allowed to work with food. And know the various cooking temps and proper procedures for handling food.

Of course the requirements are different in each state, but generally at the very least the business owner and/or manager are required to have one.

While it’s true that we can’t always tell exactly what the devs will do, they do have some precedents from which we can gauge an outcome from.

Yes like the re-stat after MF gear was removed, and this is why I personally expect they will allow stat changes with the new trait system, since they have already set that precedent…

As explained ealier that was to compensate for an entire stat being removed, and made obsolete.

With HoT there is nothing to suggest that entire stats will be removed from the game. Are they going to remove precision? Healing Power? Boon duration? Not likely. Gear stats will made much more important than they currently are.

So MF and the re-rolling of stats really isn’t a precedent at all.

RNG Conspiracy Conundrum

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

Thank you for your opinion. You said you haven’t seen any evidence so I was explaining why you haven’t seen any. So facepalm. Why did you refer to seeing evidence of the problem when you knew we couldn’t provide that lol. Anyway again thank you for you’re opinion on this matter. Again it could still be a problem. You also have no evidence that it isn’t. And discussing psychology really isn’t the point of this thread. If you’d like I can do the same thing in PM but I feel that it is kind of low (especially because it has been used over and over, we already know). I think we can move past the psychology argument which basically says everyone not opposed to this possible RNG issue is ignorant. I’m not ignorant. This could still be a problem no matter what anyone says here.

Perhaps that was a poor choice of words. In any case, the psycology of the matter I feel is very relevant to the conversation. If there is a perception that RNG is broken due to not getting certain type of ultra rare loot, especially after many many many hours of play, then that itself is a psycological matter.
And discussing that option doesn’t imply that anyone who thinks that RNG is an issue is ignorant at all.

Actually the whole RNG argument, on boths sides, can be reduced to a psychological argument. One group sees it as broken, the other group does not. Both are operating on different levels of perception. Some have numbers and charts and graphs to help make their points, and the other side does the same.
