Guardians are about supporting their allies by their virtues.

Mesmers are about illusion and control.
Necromancers are about communing with the dead.
Rangers are about using the power of nature.

For a more scientific character I think an Asura Engineer would fit that the closest.
Good look!
I agree that healing could use a revamp (not a buff, but a change in how it scales, and is used) to make it more useful. However, I don’t believe that it should be done at the cost of the meta.
I like the idea of having outgoing healing and defensive boons contribute to events, and thus be rewarding. However, that enourages even more AFK mode that there already is. If I can spam my shouts as a warrior (with a shout heal build) and still contribute to the event, why would I want to attack? I will be rewarded the same. Also, if more people are just using healing and boons to contribute, the event has a greater chance of failing, which means there needs to be more outgoing damage. So why would I just use my AoE healing, and boons if it meant that the event had a greater chance of failing? Might as well jump into the frey and start attacking instead so the event doesn’t fail. Then you are back in the same boat, where it is much more efficient to deal as much damage as possible than it is to support.
As much as I would love to see healing builds get some more love, I just don’t see any way it can be done.
“Needing” to log in everyday burns people out and make it feel like a job instead of playing.
Changing dailies to monthlies paces the game better.
There is no “need” to log in every day, as the daily achievements don’t give anything other than a few AP.
The old system the dailies were required to get laurals, which are needed for crafting ascended gear, and mystic coins, which are required for crafting legendaries.
However adding a monthly at this point, after the change, the monthlies would feel like a grind. Heck, people are already complaining that the dailies are a grind, and how it forces them to do things they otherwise wouldn’t do.
No. Changing dailies to monthlies wouldn’t be a good idea. I am ok with ADDING monthlies, but not to replace dailies.
It was 2 until recently. The problem was that people were hijacking groups. 2 friends would join and immediately vote kick everyone. And in most cases would turn around and try to sell it. Or people would come in and kick those who were selling a dungeon. The current changes to the LFG were asked for for a very long time, and it was finally implemented. Along with the names of the players who were voting. They aren’t going to change it back.
I would say: yes roll necromancer.
As someone who has around 4k PvP matches played and two legendaries from PvE, I can tell you that necromancers are a fun class to play and they don’t get shunned. Yeah may be on a couple occasions but who cares, its still a fun class to play and still has a role in this game.
Its possibly going to get better with the expansion, and they are pretty good in the world versus world game mode. I don’t know what everyone above me is smoking.
I agree. I love my necro. Also, I found that those who kick necro on sight because “reasons” are not the type of people I want to play with anyway. I’ve never been kicked for running a necro. But I’ve been kicked by elitist groups joining my “Any Welcome Casual” groups on my warrior, but thats a story left for another time.
As far as I can tell, no there isn’t.
There really isn’t any lore behind most of the armor/weapons in the game. Ascended armor and weapons there is a little bit, but not much. Mostly a blurb about how this armor is crafted in the style of [instert historical/famous person here].
Anyway, it looks like the chests have come down from where they were about 24 hours ago. Supply does seem to be steadily increasing so I wonder where the new price range will stabilize.
Some guildies of mine were talking about this in game, about how the price was going up. Someone else interjected that it’s only going to be for 5 more days and that they knew the person who was responsible.
So if they are to be believed, in the next couple of days you should start seeing the price go back down to normal.Just some food for thought….
Nailed it!
Why would the person responsible for this be interested in bringing the price back down again?
Just some food for thought….
If I understood it right. They bought up a bunch to raise the price, then unloaded it all when it was high, which brought the price back down. Of course it would have been smarter for them to trickle it back in, and keep the prices high, but with such a rapid decline it doesn’t seem like they did that.
I think you might be underestimating the amount bought and then overestimating the amount relisted. Whoever bought them hasn’t come remotely close to relisting all that they bought.
That may be true, but again I’m operating on limited information, which may or may not be accurate. In all honesety though, although it appears that someone, or a group of someones, is responsible for doing this, we really don’t know who. It could very well be just a bunch of new accounts (from the sale) that bought up a bunch of them, and bought a bunch of keys thinking that this was a type of P2W system and thinking they would at least have a chance at getting some ultra OP armor or something. I do totally discount Anets involvement in this though.

Also, I am going by the assumption of what I was told by my guildies. That someone bought up a bunch of supply to raise the price and then dumped it all back in. Again, I don’t know if its true or not, but based on that information, and seeing what has been happening to the chests over the past few days, it makses sense.

What do you consider “normal”?
I consider “normal” to be around 1s 5c buy listing (give or take a few copper). Which is about the same price as it’s been for about a year. Of course there have been some minor flucuations, but over all the price has remain fairly steady. At least until recently.
Keep the tips coming.
Never thought about the WvW armor master – I’ll check it out. Thanks Sabre.
Noha – I haven’t looked at cultural stuff yet. How do you get it?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cultural_armor
Its found in your races home city. Look for a blue armor symbol on the mini map.
The Tier 3 gear can get quite expensive. But I do love the medium T3 human armor.
But Tier 1 & 2 isn’t too expensive, and offers some great looks. So far I’ve only look at human, but will have to roll an Asura and a Charr to unlock those skins.

KILL ALL THE THINGS!!!
As far as gear/builds I found I really like playing conditions. (Such Bleeds). If you are running in groups, condis arent the greatest, but if solo stuff, condis are awesome. But thats just me. In any event, try out different things, and have fun.
Go for a legendary, or ascended armor, or both. Go for some of the achievements. I’m currently working on the Treasure Hunter one, and so far it’s pretty fun.
Good luck!
BTW. Has anyone completed this achievement yet?
The problem is, those events don’t start at specific times but under specific conditions (pres done etc). So you can’t know if a boss will come before you’re in a certain map.
The only thing that could help you are the timers for the events.
Eg. the Eye event chain restarts 9-12mins after each Eye kill, then some pres will start. Once you did them, it takes another 15-25 minutes until another pre (the escort part) starts, after that the Eye will spawn again. So you can’t say when it’ll spawn, but you can say how long it will take in the worst case (once you’re in a certain map!).You can try looking on the lfg, sometimes people mention it when one of those “rare” events occur.
PS: For more infos, look at this site: http://gw2timer.com/?page=Chains
There’s a help section with infos (routes for pres and their timers) for most bosses.
Sweet Thanks!
I’ll have to check this out.
Foulbear Krall event is bugged about 85% of the time. When it isn’t bugged, the chain starts in the camp to the north and works its way down into the Kraal.
Rhendak spawns every 10 minutes or so (you have to attempt to open his chest after the 10 minute CD). He’s at the end of the Font of Rhand (you can get ported in if a Mesmer is present).
Risen High Wizard is the final boss in the Gates of Arah chain. If the gates are being defended you have no chance at this boss.
Eye of Zhaitan I believe is the bugger in Straits of Devastation underneath the Temple of Balthazar.
I understand where they are, just not sure about the times. Would you happen to know where one could find that information?
So, I’ve started going after the treasure hunter achievment, and I’ve run into a bit of a problem. At least one of the events needed to get one of the items is bugged. I’ve submitted a bug report, and just have to wait until it gets fixed. However, thats not the major issue.
I understand that some of the pieces are only obtained through certain event chains (i.e. Foulbear Kraal, Risen High Wizard). My question is finding out when these events spawn, and what needs to happen to make them spawn. Is there any way to find out when these events DO spawn? I don’t want to hang out in a zone for forever basically AFKing and potentially miss another event. I havent been able to find a timer for these events, as most of the timers really only show the major bosses.
Specifically I am looking for Foulbear, Rhendak, Risen High Wizard, In Pursuit of Knowledge meta event, and Eye of Zhaitan.
I know I can buy some of them, and have, but many of these are VERY expensive, and I figure while I get gold, I can try my luck at getting some of these as drops.
Thanks!

She never said it got pulled because it the mote bug.
the implication is that even if it wasnt the mote bug, the mote bug would constitute a reason to pull it on its own.
Its a known issue
it causes the content not to work as intended. Not really. It’s just a single achievement. The vast 99% of the season is working as intended.
when they are sold seperate, its not a big issue, when they are sold together it is a big issue for the product.
Lets say you go to a movie, and 4 minutes at the end blanks out.
that is grounds for a refund of the full movie.
yes, i know this because it has happened.the fact that it may only be 1/20th of the movie missing is irrelevant. The product as a whole is not functional with that 1/20th missing.
So if they have a bug preventing people from completing the diving achievement, they should not sell the game? Also, it seems that this was pulled well before the two complain threads were created.
Its seems that people will complain about anything and everything.
Anet puts out LS2 at a discounted rate.
“Anet is is greedy, this is nothing more than a money grubbing scheme to take your monies!!!!11”
“Its bugged and a rip off!!! Anet hates you and just wants your money! Don’t buy it!!”Anet pulls it from the gem store.
“Anet just wants our money!! They removed it because then they’ll have to give refunds!!!”
“Its bugged and they don’t listen to us!!!”
“Anet suxx”you really arent saying anything here.
anet pulled it from the gemstore, until its working properly, i am fine with that, that is the logical thing to do and a good business decision. Me explaining why it is a business decision (good for business) is not a complaint.
If i was going to say “anet suxx” the reason would be because they were not aware enough of their own bugs an issues, to properly prioritize either the fix, or deprioritize the release of the collected edition.
Now, what the original person complaining was pointing out, is that problems related to money get faster fixes, which is true, for obvious reasons. I dont think there is anything that can be done about that, but i can see why it may be seen as a problem.
I wasn’t referring specifically to you. But generally to some of the posts about the reasons it was pulled.
I agree that it shouldn’t be sold until the bugs are fixed. But the claim that Anet doesn’t do anything about bugs until it effects their bottom line really has no merit. Its based on the idea that Anet is a greedy and corrupt company that doesn’t care about their players or their game, and only money. Which in all my dealings with Anet has shown the opposite to be true. However, they ARE a business, and the main reason for any business to exist is to make money. Period. That doesn’t make them a bad company in any way shape or form. Nor does it make them greedy or corrupt. While those things weren’t said outright, it was strongly implied.
It’s those types of sentiments and ideas that bother me the most. It goes deeper than that, and carries the connotation that anyone who seeks to make money or profit from a product is somehow a bad person. Which in turn suggests that if I am seeking better paying employment to better take care of my family, than somehow I am a bad person for doing so, because I am contributing to the perception of a financial gap between the “haves” and the “have nots”. And to me that is not ok. And don’t tolerate such things, and feel compelled to speak out against it.

This has been suggested and asked for and devs actually listened, wow. +1 ANet.
Of course they listened and executed on it.
Its tied directly to people spending money. same as the mail carriers. Now go find one of the issues on these boards that doesn’t have a solution which can be turned into revenue and see how quickly that has gotten addressed.
They were offering it at a discounted price, they weren’t making extra money off it. In fact, you can still purchase the individual episodes. This fix had nothing to do with revenue.

My one regret is that I didn’t have time to see Seattle while I was there.
That is sad. Seattle is really cool.
I would love to!!!

Deleted.

extremely dirty to delete that information if you ask me
The boycott threads were deleted. I had saved the permalinks and just checked them: “Cannot find topic with that permalink!”
I saved them to know which luminescent piece I can’t get.

Yes get it. It’s discounted 20% when buying multiple episodes. So it’ll save you some money, and get them all unlocked at the same time.
Have fun!
Actually Windows itself has those features.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/set-parental-controls#1TC=windows-7
This guide is for Windows 7. All editions I believe.
You can set times, block/allow specific games and content as you see fit.
If you are having difficulty maintaining your own rules, this would be a great feature. As a student you can set additional perimeters to prevent you from doing other activites when you should be studying. (i.e. You tube, Stumble Upon, Uberhumor, etc.)
Good luck!
I am an old school gamer from the Dark Age of Camelot days. My biggest pet peeve is starting a kill on this game and someone blowing by and busting in on the kill. This is something an old school gamer just doesn’t do or tolerate well. I can understand world bosses and events and the like but solo kills should be just that solo. Leveling solo gives you a chance to learn how to play your Character. If someone interferes in a kill it is like taking your knowledge away. If I am wrong in my thinking then please tell me.
I wouldn’t say that it’s “wrong”, but this game works VERY differently when it comes to kills. You still get credit for the kill, and any EXP or loot. So mechanically it doesn’t matter. Socially, if you are fighting a stronger enemy (i.e. veterens) and someone is coming in for the kill, you can ask that they let you kill it as you are still learning. If they ignore you and kill it anyway, well another will respawn in a couple of minutes anyway.
Personally it doesn’t matter to me. Even when leveling my first character and trying to learn. There are plenty of opportunities to learn. Now, with 6 lvl 80’s I don’t care if someone comes along to help kill. It just makes the fight go much quicker, so I can go about my business.
Also, this is a very social game, where working with others is encouraged and rewarded. Thus the “no kill stealing” factor (i.e. getting exp and loot). I would suggest trying to change how you approach fights in general. Instead of “This is mine!” maybe looking at it from a point of view where everyone helps each other out, and thats what the person running by was thinking.
I don’t know about effectiveness, but I report each message. But I don’t bother to check an compare accounts. Just report, block, and move on.
I find the game awesome and amazing!
Although there are times when I don’t feel like playing, but I attribute that to old age rather than the game not offering much.
But one of the major draws was the No-Sub. If it had been a sub I wouldn’t have even considered it.
Confirmed still bugged as of 4/12/15. Need this for the Treasure Hunter Achievement. I’ve submitted an in-game bug report, but thought I would check here as well.
Please fix.
Thanks!
Reagrdless of what percentage of getting kicked for watching the cutscene, one thing that that person said was correct. Watching cut scenes without letting the party know does result in a chance to get kicked. It’s just polite to do so. Some players don’t care, others make a big deal about it. If you are running the dungeon the first time, at the very least you should put that in the LFG, or let the party know this is your first time, and ask if its ok if you watch the cutscenes.
There are many people who don’t mind taking a noob. These groups fill up FAST on the LFG thats why you don’t see many of them, unless you are watching it. I myself prefer noobs over those who consider themselves experts. The few things that bother me about having noobs are that they don’t let the party know that it’s their first time, the don’t ask to watch the scenes (again I don’t mind, but it’s nice to do thats what they are doing), and don’t listen to whats going on in chat.
If you are a noob. LET YOUR TEAMMATES KNOW!!
watch chat, pay attention, and ask if you don’t know what to do.
Do these things, and you’ll have a much better time in dungeons.Oh, come on…
You have to ask permission to watch the cutscenes?
No, the answer is to not join anything that mentions “zerker”, or “speedrun” ever.
Other than that, your only other potential issues will be long lectures on how to build, what to wear, where to skip, where to stack, which (melee – forget ranged) weaps to use etc..
Doesn’t sound like too much fun, does it?
Actually, maybe the answer is just to not do GW2 dungeons, at all.
No you don’t have to ask. But its the polite thing to do. If you do ask, and are told no, than that group isnt for you.
Ive had many a pleasant and enjoyable runs with new players where everyone is cool. “How is that possible!?” You may ask. Well, because the noob wasn’t a heel, respected the groups time, and let us know they were new.And yes. Dont join groups you don’t meet the requirements for. That’s a given.
No, it’s not polite, it’s ridiculously subservient.
If I joined a (non speedrun type) group, I would never require anyone to tell me they intended to watch the cutscenes.
It’s completely up to them if they want to.
…and BTW, I consider it extremely impolite to describe a fellow player as a “noob”, so I guess politeness is very much in the eye of the beholder?
To me, you are the impolite one, especially as a more experienced player, calling people “noobs” and requiring them to ask you for permission to play their game the way they like.
You seem to be misunderstanding me.
Again, it’s not REQUIRED to ask permission to watch cutscenes. It’s just polite to do so. I don’t have an issue with it at all. If you want to watch the scenes. Go for it. But I would expect at least some sort of courtesy when doing so. At the very least a “this is my first time here, I’m going to watch the scenes.” It’s a sign of respect. That you respect the groups time, and a show of consideration. Just as I would do, and expect the rest of the team to do, when doing anything. From stacking in a certain spot or not, using things like Shadow Refuge to skip certain parts, or doing encounters in a certain way. You don’t just pop SR without telling anyone and expecting everyone to stack on you. It’s communication. And it’s common courtesy. Being polite is in no way being subserviant. In this setting, it’s an acknowledgement that you are inexperienced with this content, that it’s your first time here, and that you respect the teams time. If being polite and showing courtesy is being subserviant, well I’d rather be subserviant and respectful, than a jerk…thats just me though….
As far as my use of the word “Noob”.
I don’t use it, or mean it, in a derogerty manner. It simply means “New Player” or “Inexperienced”.
There is nothing wrong with being new or inexperienced. We ALL were at some point. I myself, although am an experienced player, am still a noob in certain things. I’ve never done Triple Trouble. In that encounter I am a total noob. Of course some people have taken it to mean “bad”, but back in the day when I first started playing online games, being a noob simply meant that you were new and/or inexperienced. Heck some of the first games I played, had an official “Noob area”, and designated players called “Noob helpers” that helped new players get started and showed them the ropes.

So if somebody hates you he can go buy some gold and put your name as recipient so you get banned? It is a bit exaggerated i know but there is a possibility or not?
probably not actually. Anets server logs are pretty extensive.
They MIGHT suspend your account during the investigation, but the player who buys the gold and sends it to you will be banned. As you didnt buy gold.
He said someone could buy gold and set you as the recipient. Not Person x buys it and receives it and then sends it to person y. Person X buys it and tells the gold seller to send it to Y. There is no way for Anet to know if X or Y bought the gold since they cant look into your bank transactions.
True, however if I were to randomly recieve a large sum of gold with no warning, for an unknown account, with a message saying “Thank you for using XYZ gold!!”, I would send it back, and report the sender. But thats just me…
If I could play only one class it would be necro. Hand down. Period. End of story.

How is this a 100g loss?
Crafting such item costs 100g.
If crafting the item costs 100g, but you got the item as a drop, and picked the wrong weight, you didn’t lose 100g. No gold was taken from your wallet, you didn’t lose out on the potential for 100g from selling it, becuase you can’t sell it. And you didn’t spend the money to craft it.
If anything you saved 100g by that drop. But with several confirmation messages that your selection was the wrong weight and that your character was unable to use, and you still accepted it, well that only on you.
However, I do agree about the UI.
Instead of having a list with all the armor weights, and stat combos you can pick. Just make it so you can select the stats upon equipping it. This would make life so much easier.
Grats OP!
Anet CS is the best!!
Also how in the name of Dhuum do you only have 23s!?
You clearly have never been kicked on sight from parties once they see your skull symbol.

Honestly I haven’t. In fact, I’ve never had anyone even comment that I was using a necro. Either way this is WAY OT.
(Sad attempt to bring it back)
Ascended gear is supposed to be an “end-game” goal. Its supposed to take time and/or be expensive. The only reason that people see the amounts of mats required for light armor as a barrier, is they want it as soon as possible. Nothing wrong with that in and of itself. But it leads to complaints that it’s “too hard and unfair”.
I am ok with where silk is at. It now has value. The price isn’t that high. And the stuff is super easy to come by. And they added more ways to get it.
However I do agree about increasing the amounts for leather. The stuff is as common as silk, but because of a lack of uses it doesn’t have any value at all.
Also just because I am ok with raising the amount of leather needed, doesn’t mean I think that silk is unfair. Just want to make that clear.
And please don’t dump ascmats into your necromancer unless you have no other characters left. It’ll only be a lifetime of pain.
But i’ve been getting ascended for my necro before my ele. Don’t see why it’s more difficult for a necro than for an ele, or a mesmer. I love my necro. He is awesome!

Well I ran a set of fractals last night with 1 step lower than maximum with ~20 FPS. Had a few lags, but took a couple of options down 1 step further (shadows, reflections, and model limit) and was fine. After that I was average ~28 FPS during Jade Maw. Havent tested it in open world, or bigger bosses yet.
Really? Hadn’t noticed.
I love my necro. The only thing I don’t like about him is the lack of map completion. Having to run around all the time is a pain on any class.
Gold Sellers: Selling in-game gold which was earned rightfully by a player(s).
Gold Buyers: Player(s) taking advantage of the benefits Gold Sellers provide.Question that arises to me is why is Anet focusing on this issue when there are plenty more to tend to?
How does this effect Anet?
Correct me if I’m wrong but the only possible logical answer I can come up with is…
Ok, say we start banning Gold Buyers and Gold Sellers. What have we eliminated? That transaction between players. What have we gained? More revenue. Players of the game will now prefer to go online or to their local store that sells gems and purchase redeemable codes for gems.
This only seems to me to be a valiant act to gain more money from the players. In my opinion.
…This is not to include players who are actual real life friends. One of the said friends is a “PvE grinder” and other is “PvP/WvW’er”. It goes unsaid who makes more money playing Gw2 between the friend. PvP friend receives in-game mail from PvE friend as result of a conversation they had in real life and now they’re both banned because they were, in a sense, “labeled”.
Good luck handling this Anet.
In your example, is the pvper paying real monet for in-game gold? If so, yes they both should be banned because such things are against the ToS.
Is the PvE player giving a gift? Then they are within their rights to do so, and the ToS and system allows for them to do just that.
Eliminating RMT sellers and buyers alike both harm the games economy, the gold to gem exchange rates, and preys upon, and encourages hacking accounts. Its also protects Anets assets, which is their right, and also protects their investors. And as a business they should want to get more players to spend more money. Theres nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t make them greedy, its how a business is run.
Also, INB4 certain people come in and start claiming that Anet lied about not having grind/vertical progression and that the amount of silk ascended is a grind…
Please don’t. This is not the thread for that. Thanks!
None of these arguments are new … you should all feel ashamed for rehashing them.
yeah, but they keep coming up, with new players starting them, because a problem unsolved will continue to be a problem. After this one falls off the front page, it wont be long till a new one pops up, Until the issue is resolved, or until they no longer have new people reaching the level in the game where they see the imbalance and complain about it
So we need to start a thread each time? Just continue the same thread. No one is saying anything new about it anyway. It’s the same complaints, the same defenses. Heck, it’s even the same people.
i dont think the person who started this thread was in the old one. The forum has no search function, they cant realistically expect people to find old threads and update them.
Most of the people chime in on the new and old threads to restate the main points for the people who have not seen the old ones. Also, sometimes, new ideas actually come up, albeit rarely.fact remains, if you got a leaky boat, and you keep renting it, you will constantly get new complaints until the boat is fixed. Thats just reality.
The problem is not everyone agrees that there is a problem that needs to be fixed. Thus all the same people come in and say the same things. The one who started this thread may not have known of its existance, certainly. But those who were invloved in the first thread, should have linked it.

Here is the old thread, about the same thing. Please merge. Thanks!

One of the issues about game optimization I see is what I call “The Duke Nukem Forever” syndrome. If they continually optimized for every new technology that comes out, thats all they will ever do.
Thats what happened to Duke Nukem. Everytime a new engine came out, they wanted to use that engine, so they had to go back and redo EVERYTHING. By the time they finished, another engine came out, and they decided to go with the new one. Repeat whole process again. Thats why it was delayed for years. It was a terrible decision of course. But thats also A reason (not the only reason) that it doesn’t happen very often.
No GW2 works fine even for lower end PCs as is.

Apparently +16 is the limit. However, the game does allow for crafting up to +30, but the cost to do so is near impossible to obtain. (8,000,000g, and 500,000,000 +1 infusions) So I guess the realistic cap is +16.
It takes me forever to get enough silk to craft an ascended piece. Yes it drops a fair amount but it takes 300 scraps to make one bolt. It takes me two days of doing fractals and dungeons to get over one stack. The rest of the mats i get with ease and i dont need as many.
Just lower the cost of making the bolts, 50 bolts needed and only 2 silk scraps per bolt.
Or get rid of the timegate so people can just save up silk and craft it all at once instead of having to buy silk every day.
So revert the amounts needed back to a point where silk was at vendor value?
And how does this solve anything? Silk is VERY easy to come by. Run Silverwastes a few times and you’ll get all the silk you could ever want. It drops from bags and chest, and is obtained through salvaging. In 1 run you can easily get 20+ bags, and a ton of gear to salvage.
