recognize my command!”
Personally, I played the entire game solo. There is never a requirement to group up outside of dungeons and fractals. That said, playing with a group on most anything can really enrich your experience. I highly encourage you to find a guild of people you get along with and play with them doing whatever.
Correction:
Personal Story Chapter Victory or Death forces you into a party.
Unless you are counting that as a dungeon?
But yes, have fun, meet new people, have a great time. You don’t need to party up for most things (I never did understand why people do it for world bosses and the like…) and can pretty much do what you want running around by yourself.

I stand corrected.
Converting karma to gold: forging rare/exotic items is an insanely inefficient way of converting karma to gold. The best ways are forging light armour for lower tier cloth – you’ll make more gold for a few thousand karma that way, than you would for the tens or hundreds of thousands of karma you spend in the way you suggest. The theoretical ability to throw money(karma) down the drain does not a good sink make.
Finally, if there were good sinks for karma, then there wouldn’t be such a problem with people having so many millions of it stocked up.
True, it may not be the most effecient way to make gold, but the way I see it, is if you are drowning in karma, already have purchased the skins you want/are not interested in karma skins, why not?
It gives you a chance to get some pretty cool exotics. (I got Moonshank last night from T3 rare weapons. It’s only 3g, but still 3g is 3g.) And also a chance at a precursor, or other expensive exotic gear. (Tossed in some pieces of exotic temple gear, got beserker leggings back. sold for 5g.)
Of course it is gambling, but as you said, you can get karma from doing just about anything, it’s easier to get than gold. So if you are sitting on millions of karma, have the skins you want, you really don’t have much to lose forging rares/exotics, and have a chance to get something cool.
To quote JS: “I’m not even sure we even agree there is a problem to solve in the first place.”
If it aint broke, dont fix it. If you dont understand the reasoning behind it, dont try to “fix” it. Just leave it.
The whole “players collect them though” is BS. Older tokens you had a defined date they would be useless. It’s your fault for hoarding them (yes, I said you’re a hoarder) beyond their life of usefulness. Newer tokens are your fault for hoarding them as well. There’s things such as bags of loot they can be spent on. Got all the unique crap already? Start buying the gear/loot bags. there’s no reason at all to “hoard” them thinking they’re going to be used in the next map. Anet clearly made it obvious when SW did not use geodes.
Do you seriously think there’s no problem with karma, though? It’s rewarded near-universally, you get it for doing everything in the game, but there’s nothing to spend it on apart from legendaries (which a lot of people don’t go for anyway). And if you are making a legendary, karma is most likely the least of your worries. So we have a situation where players have 10 or 20 million karma, nothing to do with it, and it just keeps accumulating.
Oh, sure. They could mindnumbingly convert it to linen, a few thousand at a time.
It’s not a matter of hoarding, it’s a problem with the balance between supply and desirable (or accessible) sinks. BoH’s have a similar problem. And because of it, Anet actually had to make sure we had even less sinks, by preventing salvaging of karma or WvW gear.
With SW and DT and dungeon tokens, you’re probably right that there’s not much of a problem in that sense. The income isn’t too high, and there are enough sinks to satisfy anyone. The problem with those currencies, if there is one, is simply that new ones keep being added.
I’m not saying that a cap is the answer, but there are definitely problems with at least some currencies.
I disagree with the amount things to spend karma on. There are tons of skins available only that can only be gotten with karma.
8 weapon set skins, 20 different weapons = 160 skins
5 armor sets, 6 pieces per set = 30 skins
190 total skins that can only be bought with karma.
The upper Tiers cost 63,000 each piece.
For a full set of tier 3 lion guard weapons would be 1,260,000 karma.
Yeah not nearly enough uses or sinks for karma.
Also you can throw rare and exotic karma items into the forge… which of you had 10 million karma, would not be a terrible way to use it, and make some serious gold. At the very least be able to salvage rares for ecto, which can also net you a decent chunk of change.
Why not start one, and start recruiting?
You don’t need to have officers and such in place before you start doing that.
Just state your goals, and what type of things you want to do and go from there.
You can follow the guides if you want, but I disagree that they are “good” for new crafters as they explain nothing and just list buy lists and tell you to craft x # of one item to reach a level. Yes that gets you to the finish line (maybe faster and possibly cheaper), but it teaches you nothing about the crafting system.
True, but the crafting system isn’t all that complex.
You want to craft an ring? Make a band, a setting, and a gem. Go to discover, add each component into the UI and click discover. If it doesn’t let you click it, than you might be missing a piece. Try different things to find what combo works. Its pretty logical and straight forward. There isn’t much else to know besides that.
i don’t like the charr. can we get rid of them because i don’t like them?
rytlock can stay. he’s cool.
Seconded.
Can we also get rid of other players? I don’t much care for them, they ruin immersion, are offensive, and don’t meaningfully add to the depth of the game.
Also remove the keyboard interface. People use it to troll and grief other players. It’s a tool that is widely used for offensive remarks from others. It doesn’t add anything to the game. As well as mouse, joystick, or any other input device.
:P
A bottomless bag/infinite storage bag
Removes the stack cap on any item placed in the bag. However, when removing those items you can only remove a max of 250 at a time.
This would clear up the bag space problems with ascended crafting mats and zone currencies.
I’ll pay 1000 gems for this.
Instead of the wallet, which I don’t think that the new currencies, or crafting mats belong, what about removing the stack limit?
Any bank/material storage upgrades you’ve bought will still remain in effect, just not apply to ascended crafting mats.
It would sigficantly reduce the amount of bag space needed for those currencies and ascended materials. Making them much more managable.
Heck they could even make it a gem store item. Infinite storage bag.
Everything placed in the bag has no stack size limit.
“Great for storing several thousand pouns of blodstone dust, empyreal fragments, dragonite, geodes and bandit crests! Get it now for 800 gems!”Yeah I would drop some cash for something like that.
I like it.
I can come up with a good idea now and again :P

I’m appalled at how insensitive you people are. OP said they had a minor panic attack over this, and you’re all brushing it off like it’s nothing. Shame on all of you! This is not how you talk to people with disabilities! I hope each and every one of you have to one day live while crippled by something outside of your control. Maybe then you’ll understand why this is unacceptable.
How do you know we don’t already live with something beyond our control?
Or have to care for a loved one with something beyond their control, and we also are powerless to do anything about it?
It’s not insensitive to point out that the particular character the OP has chosen to play (and has since deleted) in-game is extremely racist and condencending toward anyone not of their race. It’s not insensitive to suggest that maybe there are other things worth getting worked up about, and that 1 line in a video game isn’t on that list.
What happened to the OP is real, no one is denying that, or trying to down play the significance of that event. However, in this age, it is more socially acceptable to make dramatic changes to perfectly reasonable and acceptable practices because a small minority of people decided they want to be offended by it. That to me is offensive. Why should I have to change my views, change my lifestyle to fit into someone elses ideals and views on how I should live? Why should I be tolerant of someone else, when they aren’t tolerent of me, and demand I change because of what I do is offensive?
ummm…..wut?
Not trying to be insensitive or anything but really?
Why not turn off the dialog volume?
Turn off your sound completely?
Not play Asura?
Not play the game if it contains elements that you find offensive?
It’s kind of like saying that Mcdonalds Big Macs made someone overweight, and because of that, Mcdonalds needs to get rid of the Big Mac.
Or going to an adult club and being offended that there are adult activities going on and requesting the place be closed, or those activities be removed.
In the end it’s a choice as to whether or not you (not anyone specifically, just you in the general sense) are offended. You find certain activies offensive? Don’t partake in those activities. Don’t make other people change what they are doing because you don’t happen to like it. That doesn’t promote anything but selfishness.
I appreciate your idea but I am not a fan on a cap. Would much prefer that there are items to purchase with said currencies and potentially a way to convert currencies to other forms with some ratio of a conversion tax. The conversion tax could be fluid based on the number of units that ANet knows to exist. The real key is having items for purchase though that requires that currency. Take the bandit crests, to me the sink (example: dusty gear bag) works pretty well. Players can convert excess currency into a different object that might have value for them, the key is monitoring and making sure the items for purchase are of value to the player base.
I love dusty gear bags!
I’ve gotten more than a few exotics through those things.
its the pricing that is the main issue preventing it without a cap price it to low and old players can get it immediately price it to high and its a good level for old players but a ridiculous amount for new ones
I still fail to understand how it is a bad thing. If you spent tons of time in the game already, you go and get retroactively rewarded (unless there’s a minor time/content gate) and become happier since you don’t have to regrind the same old stuff. If you haven’t, the problem doesn’t exist for you in the first place.
if the game was just players from launch i would agree with you but it isn’t and ANET can’t just punish new players with unreasonable time frames that come with the cost of old players having the amount of whatever currency after playing for 2.5 years
Yeah I agree that making the price too high to cater to veterens with stacks of currency. It would cause newer players to feel that it was a grind to be able to get said items. (which than leads to threads about how grindy this game is, how Anet lied when they said there would be no grind, how unfair it all is, etc. etc. etc.) Although I did suggest it, it was AN option, and not the only one. But certainly pricing would be considered (as it is with any vendor item they introduce), but perhaps not the sole reason why new stuff isn’t being released.
i think earlier in the thread someone mentioned that devs said it was one big factor of why
I think I saw that, but without a link or a quote I am going to disregard it. If anything it was something taken out of context.
But it seems silly to me that Anet cannot/will not release new currency sinks simply because some players would be able to get it right away.

Don’t forget that all the karma skins that can only be unlocked by “doing stuff”.
(i.e. hearts, events, etc.)
Lyssa temple has some pretty neat skins IMO that can only be bought with karma, which means you have to do stuff to earn it, and the vendor has to be unlocked by doing the temple events.
So yeah there are some ways to get some cool skins by questing and doing stuff in game rather than swiping a credit card and buying it off the TP or gem store.
Very nice!!
a good tip…kill as many “yellow” mobs you can find, especially in not so commomn places (i.e. where not much players come because there is nothing to do there).
If you have an XP booster as wel, base xp wil gain an extra of 2,5 XP !
Yup.
I took a low level in WvW, and farmed the yellow mobs in the various BLs with karma boosters, was getting 4-5k exp per kill. Was able to level fairly quickly.
However, I would suggest just playing the game instead of power leveling especially if you are fairly new to GW. This will help you learn your class so you aren’t a total noob at level 80.
Also concerning adding in currencies into the wallet, as JS would put it: “It’s not an elegant solution.”
It makes the wallet bigger than it needs to be and makes it feel bloated.
So instead, just remove the stack limit on those items. So instead of having multiple stacks of 250, you just have 1 stack. It clears up a bunch of bag space, but limits it to just 1 spot. So I could have 15,000 bandit crests, but it only takes 1 slot in my inventory.
I still don’t understand how adding in a cap will allow the devs to release new stuff to buy.
If they felt so inclined to release new items for the currencies we have now, then they can release new items.
“But they are worried that people will be able to buy them all in a day! So thats why they don’t bring in more uses for currencies we already have.”
That doesn’t even make sense. If they were worried about it, all they needed to do is A) increase the price of the item, B ) Time gate it in some fashion, or C) Lock the vendor/use for currency behind some mechanic or event (i.e. Balthazar temple karma vendor)
Although as a side note, If they were to release new uses the best way would be to ninja patch it in. Instead of making an announcment. Thats just me though…
How do you propose to implement this on the existing system? And how large do you want the caps to be for specific currencies?
The “simplest” Solution is to prevent players from earning anymore of a specific currency until they are below the cap. As for how large the caps should be, it depends on the currency itself, they can’t have the same caps
I am confused about this solution.
Lets say cap is 1000.
If I have 850 I cannot earn any more.
If I have over 1000 I can’t earn any more because of the cap.
So I cannot earn anymore than what I have, essentially making that currency dead…
Grats!!
Also you know you can take a screen shot right? I believe the default key is Print Screen…
It also shows you where it saved it.

Are you just starting out in GW2? Are you coming from other MMOs?
Which profession appeals most to you, from a play standpoint, and not mechanical? Thanks for your advice.
Coming from WoW primarily. Several 90s and 100s already, I’m very much done with it lol. However, I did enjoy it while it lasted (of course).
Yea, I am pretty much just starting in GW2 although I have a few lvl 15s. Haven’t gotten deep yet.
From a play standpoint, I have always liked mages. I enjoy AOE stuff mostly. But for me, I like most to play a class (prof) that I can naturally excel with and reach its skill cap easier than other classes. In other words, I like mages usually but tend to suck with them haha
Gotcha. First, don’t think in terms of dps, tank, and healer. Those don’t exist in GW2. We have damage, control, and support. Every profession can do all of these, some better than others but overall it’s fairly balanced out that way.
As for mage types with aoe, try elementalist, or necro. Both have lots of aoe. But elementalist has a higher skill cap than necro. I personally love necro. But elementalist has much more play variety.
In the end, just try them all and see what works for you. Have fun with it. There really is no wrong profession or build, although some people like to think there is :P
If you have more questions let us know. Good luck!
With all the people whining and moaning in map chat about the bugs, I’d like to propose a little something. Name me a game where there are no maintenance down times, helpful support staff who try their best, staff in game who talk to the players and sometimes even hang around or do PvP or dungeons or fractals with the players, has minor bi-weekly updates with new cash shop items that can still be bought with in game currency, hot fixes to fix these bugs every day and not long after the major patch is released, free content bi weekly for the specific seasons, player driven events and communities that get supported by the game’s company, and finally a game that’s one of gamings friendliest communities.
If you can name me a game with all that and more, perhaps we should all move there because obviously a lot of people don’t appreciate the work that goes into this game.
TALK TO THE PLAYERS?! AHAHAH where they asked me what i think about stabillity changes? NOWEHRE. THey just made it and are forcing me to play THEIR WAY of the game. U ask for game with less bugs? SKYFORGE, this game is still in CB, but with LESS bugs than gw2 and MUCH MORE CONTENT. Also devs there TALK with players and ASK em what to change, not like here – they just made stabillity change that is…POINTLESS and ruined whole game. Why they made this? Simple, 1. to nerf guilds vs blobs, 2. To make Revenant needed cos he will have stabil with almost every skill so he will balance the game
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/cdi
The CDIs say differently.
Plus many people like the change to stability. It is going to take some time to adjust to, and different strategies are going to be developed, but overall it’s not a bad change. But your opinion is your opinion I guess….
Emmm what startegies? Who have more cc he win? Or who have more stabil he win? According to that who have bigger blob he win? The only strategy is to set mt to kill enemy mt with eyesight while papers will bomb enemy papers
that is for gvg. What about zerg vs blob? U probably can’t do anything ;D just let em wipe u. Also CID didn;t say a thing about stabillity
They just make it to nerf guilds and zergs wiping blobs cos of some QQ arrows. AHh and the 2. thing why they changed it is taht they want to release Revenant which have stabillity with almos tevery skill so he will balance it BUT why they released stuff related to him NOW? As i said chekout skyforge – it is the game hwere devs really care about their players. How i know that anet isn’t? They didn’t fix servers for over 2 years of crying about lags at EU servers.
Well for one, just midlessly running into a blob/zerg isn’t going to work as well anymore, so you’ll have to figure out a way to do something else. IIRC such a change to stability is what players have been asking for.
Of course having larger numbers is going to be an advantage, in any situation.
We don’t know much about the Revenant, so to say that this change was specifially ot make them balanced isn’t exactly accurate.
And what exactly is Anet supposed to due about lagging issues?
Even the best servers can only handle so much traffic, which is part of the reason for lag. Other reasons include ISP issues, client side issues, al-queda and solar flares.
The CDI didn’t talk about stability true, but it does show that Anet is talking to their players. Plus it was announced awhile ago, and a dialoge was opened up by Anet concerning the changes about that same time too. (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Stability-Change-Clarification/page/2#post4836024)
It’s not really a surprise that it was coming, and there has been more than ample enough time to weigh in on the matter.

(sorry couldn’t resist)
Aaaah gotcha.
Well lets hope people move them over there.
About SweetFX, there have been several threads about it not working after the patch. So while Anet isn’t going to offer any support for it there are still plently of people having problems and a fix has been found.
There seems to be a rash of bugs with this patch. People hearing voices, losing chat, SweetFX not working, etc.
Lets consolidate them here . It makes things easier for the devs to keep track and fix whats wrong. Thanks!
For SweetFX, a fix has been found: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/SweetFX-and-Initializing-SOLVED/first#post4884090
Please keep it as simple as possible. Thanks!

It makes more sense to have it listed by AR than daily reward IMO. It makes it easier to judge how much AR you need when doing the fractal at a glance.
Although I do agree that 20-39 is a big span, it should at least be 20-29 and 30-39.
Please remove their names from the picture, or remove the picture. It’s against forum rules to do such things.

Dungeons and Dragons!
Not DDO, but the table top version.
Although there is no cash shop, it basically does have all that and more. :PThough every edition since Ed 2 have been the Worst Update Ever!
Hehehe
I’ve heard that 5e was pretty good…
But the great part is, you don’t have to play anything other than 2e if you don’t want to :P

Also Anet does play WvW and there are also GMs running around…
As far as anti-blobbing, what do you propose?
WvW is pretty much designed for large scale fights. Don’t like large scale fights, don’t run with the zerg. There are also plently of smaller roaming groups you could engage instead of blobbing with the rest of the server.
Don’t know if it’s been asked or not, but I see the topic come up every so often.
What was the main reason for WvW gear being unsalvagable? What it for an economic reason? Or mechanical? As it is its fairly easy to get, so I could see having a large influx of ecto because of it. Also having to rebuy runes could be part of the reason. But otherwise it doesn’t make much sense. Instead of being able to salvage directly, what about being able to be forged?
A lot of different factors go into decisions like that one, but economic effects were part of the decision process for sure.
it’s really scummy there is no indication you can’t salvage them, I have a bunch of junk armor with nice runes I can’t get out now
There is the upgrade extractor, but it’s not very cost efficient…
But I would hope that this is something they are looking at to change, but in the meantime that pretty much what we’ve got to work with.
I’m bored but the reason I’m bored is coz yet again today we have had another disappointing patch with no real content :^(
Were you expecting it to be a content patch?
I am pretty sure Anet said that there wouldn’t be any more content until the expansion is launched, so any patches we do get are going to be QoL stuff. Which is what we got today. Fixes to the party kick system (something that has been asked for and needed for a very long time), FoV update (again something that has been asked for for a very long time), a change to stability, and some balance fixes. Which collectively make for a great patch. Sorry you set your expectations on something that you knew you weren’t going to get….
I don’t think that it was intentional. But it’s really just a matter of time before either SweetFX, or someone else comes up with a work around for it. But Anet certainly isn’t going to do anything about it.
Nailed it…

The only reason I am bored is because I am at work :P
No the game isn’t boring. But if you ground out everything quickly, then there isn’t much else to do. That isn’t the games fault. There have been some awesome story things going on, which introduced a bunch of cool new things to do. PvP is fun to do, as well as WvW. It really just comes down to what you think is fun.

The servers are a bit overloaded at the moment. If you’re getting the error “Connection errors detected – retrying” upon opening the launcher, let it sit in the background for a few minutes and it should start patching. If you get this happening mid-patch, close the launcher and re-open it, then give it some time to connect. Things should normalize again relatively soon.
Are you stuck while it is downloading? Or just stuck in general?
Try to close down the game, and launch it again and see if that helps. Sometimes a reboot of the computer might help.
You also might get more assistance in the tech support forums than here.
Good luck!
You can always do map completion, Jumping puzzles, event and champ trains.
Regardless of what you are doing together, you can always level up and have fun. In open world PvE, there isn’t much “difficult” content, but still plenty of fun things to do.
Just be patient. Many people are experiencing the same thing. My guess is that a bunch of people are downloading it right now, so it may take a bit.

Although it’s not a very cost effective method, but there is the upgrade extractor which allows you to remove and keep the rune/sigil without salvaging or destroying the rune/sigil.
It has also been suggested to allow legendaries to be able to save unlocked sigils and to replace as desired. Maybe have something like that for ascended armor as well…
As far as a gold sink, yeah it places the majority of the gold into the hands of another player, but 15% of the cost is still removed. So it still is serving as a gold sink.
Hehehe thats funny…
If they were silly enough to follow him off the ledge, then I guess they had whats coming to them.
Don’t know if it’s already been brought up or not.
What about a way to report the troll seige itself?
Select the siege, right click, select report and choose “Siege abuse”. (Also this reporting option will be available on players who are abusing seige.)
That way a GM can come and investigate the seige, destroy it and track down the person who threw it.
This way troll seige can be removed, clearing up the cap, and the offenders can be tracked down and actioned as appropriate. This way we don’t need to actively see the players doing it, which can lead to such players being announced in map chat to be reported.
Of course, this might be able to be abused if people are just reporting seige abuse on every piece of seige in order to get it removed if cap has legitimately been reached. However, too many “false” reports would not only significantly increase the workload of GMs, and decrease their response times to actual seige abuse. But action can also be taken against players abusing the seige abuse function (i.e. reporting a legitimate treb in a keep).
Don’t know if it would be a viable solution or not, but it certianly is something that can be considered.
Any people that farm an exploit for things are toxic members of society and the game.
Yes thats a bug and an exploit, anyone who farms exploits are generally horrible people with no sense of morality anyway.
Wait how is it an exploit or a bug? The maize balm works exactly as intended. The ambient creatures spawn exactly as working. So I’m not seeing an exploit anywhere.
I got a ton of them with orrian boxes
Orrian boxs are cool, but due to rng, its not as cost effective kitten or the temple.
Check out the LFG. I see it advertised there all the time.
But yeah Silverwastes is a decent spot for those. Just got 10 today from the VW chest.
And while Anet’s at it, please put in measures to stop players from chucking down troll portals in areas where chests pop up after you kill an npc. Today some troll Mesmer killed half our zerg (which in my opinion is sabotage and disruptive behaviour) by placing a portal on top of a reward chest, ultimately leading to the edge of a cliff. No one was expecting to take the portal, but it just so happened to be what people interacted with in that particular second when attempting to aoe the loot from said chest, only to find a portal opening up to their death. Including mine. Luckily I was able to teleport in time, but we don’t need people sabotaging our own teams, and still this goes on…
Heheh… sorry but that’s pretty funny.
Well, its mostly the players fault. They couldnt see the BRIGHT PINK confirmation to use the portal? Also if you select and click on the chest you can open it that way too.
I guess that’s what happens what you mindlessly just mash the interact button without seeing what it is displaying.
