Yes, lets remove necro because it’s not used in top tier PvP, nor is it meta. Lets remove it because people like to focus it, because if they don’t they get their face melted off.

Yup, I’m all for removing core professions in a game simply because top tier PvP teams don’t like it.
(._.)

I love necro, I love the cool things I can do with necro. I love stacking bleeds/poison/chill/blindess/removing boons and turning them into conditions. I love melting people who foolishly ignore me simply because I’m an “underpowered useless necro”
Don’t like it? Don’t play it. Go play D/D Celestial Ele, or whatever the meta of the week is. If you are not having fun, it’s time to do something different.

Like the old saying goes: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over agian and expecting different results.”

Getting tired of being bounced around? Then don’t play a ping pong ball…..

Kid:“Dad,dad when will you fix my toy?”
Dad:“I don’t care just get a new one!!”
Kid:“That’s the only one you like.”
Dad:“What?! You like broken?? What your mother doing during pregnancy?!! It’s a toy the one that made it should easily fix it.
Kid:“But the other kids want me to play with it while they have theirs, the creator gave me a middle finger behind his desk.”

Sad childhood you had Q_Q…

I am not even sure how that analogy even applies…
(Besides I had one of the best childhoods anyone could ever have asked for. But thats beside the point. :P)

However,
Asking for profession fixes/features/upgrades is one thing. I agree that some changes can and should be made to necro. Asking for it to be completely removed because it sucks to play one (which is personal preference in any event) is something else entirely.

Going back to your illustration:
Kid: Dad! My favorite toy broke!
Dad: Well, I can’t do anything about it at the moment, it’s going to take awhile for me to fix it. In the meantime, why don’t you play with your other toys?
Kid: I don’t wanna!! I only want this toy!!
Dad: But I got you the other toys for you to play with as well. Some of them are pretty cool, I think you might like them.
Kid: NO!!! I want this one!! I don’t want the other toys!! If I can’t play with this toy I am going to throw away all the other toys!!!
Dad: (thinking) What the heck is wrong with you!? I am so going to…….

@Bahwb
@Drarnor

So basically you’re saying that the necro gets focused first because it can’t survive. And that other professions don’t get focused because they have the means to mitigate it.
So its a free kill.

While necro doesn’t have the stun breaks, invulns, damage avoiding mechanics as the other classes, they have some awesome things that work really well. If coordinated. (i.e. wells minions, and condi pressure. @ Drarnor yes I lumped them together because those are some of the tools that the necro has at his disposal. And yes they can and do work together.)

My point is, that while necro may not be “top tier” in PvP, they still have some awesome things going for them, and can cause some people to have a really bad day if under estimated (just like any other class). Which is why I feel that necros tend to be focused more than the other classes, instead of it just being a free kill.

Edit: Yes necros can stand a “rework” and some changes, but I don’t feel that they are in such a terrible place as to make them completely useless.

I can understand that necros have very limited mobility, and options. But have you considered why necro is almost always focused and taken down first?
Is it just for the free kill and points?
Or is it because the longer the necro is in the fight the deadlier he gets?
Yeah a coupld of stacks of bleed aren’t really much, but you let a necro get to 25 and you’re screwed. Almost infinit poison also hurts too. They have access to lots of blinds, vulnerablity, boon stripping, group condi cleanse, and chill.
Let them pop DS, and now you have a full health necro that can deal some great damage and break up fights.
Lich form for lots of pressure and if left unchecked can ruin a party fairly quickly.

Yeah necro lacks blocks, mobility, leaps, and very limited blasts, but it still is a force to be reckoned with. Thats why if I am facing a good team, they will target me. If its not a great team, they quickly learn to not ignore the necro.

What class, if left alone, isn’t a force to be reckoned with? Necros are not alone in that regard, and their condition pressure is greatly outdone by Engineers and Rangers.

Necros are focused first, not because they are the greatest threat, but because there is nothing they can do to stop it.

So what class, if focused first, is able to survive?

Yeah, I agree that that every class if left alone is a force to be reckoned with. But also that any class, if focused, drops dead just as easily as a necro.

I don’t think that they are focused first just because it basically amounts to a free kill. A well placed fear chain provides just as much CC, if not more, as a warrior hammer chain.

Yeah, other classes may be able to provide as much, if not more condi pressure, but I still feel the necro has a bit more going on for it than just condi pressure. The ability to cleanse and convert boons and conditions, the fear chains, minions, wells, etc.

In the end though I suppose its really personal preference than anything. I for one love my necro in PvP, and found it to be much more effective than my Ranger, or Warrior.

Unlock Guild Chest Piece in Wardrobe

in Players Helping Players

They were PvP skins before the wardrobe.

From the April 15th, 2014 patch:
PvP Gear Unification
•All PvP equipment (armor, weapons, amulets, etc.) can no longer be obtained or equipped.
•Upon entering Heart of the Mists, players will have their PvP items removed from their character inventory, character equipment, PvP locker, and account bank. This includes PvP chests. •All removed items will have their appearance unlocked in the account wardrobe.

•Characters in PvP will use the same armor and weapons from PvE. •All items give zero attribute, rune, sigil, or infusion bonuses in PvP.
•All items function as level 80 exotic-quality items.
•Chest, leg, and boot armor still contribute to the total defense value.
•All attribute values are consistent with the old system.
•PvP gear now includes unique rune, sigil, and amulet slots.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-April-15-2014/first#post3896029

With the change to the wardrobe, PvP armor and PvP crafting were removed. This allowed PvP players to wear their PvE armor in PvP with normalized stats. The PvP Armor skins were automatically added to the wardrobe.

Theres a big thread about this, and some random dev replied who nobody had ever heard of, but rather than posting anything constructive, he was just being obnoxious and sarcastic about everything, so it just shows that ArenaNet isn’t willing to talk about it on a public scale.

Taking that into mind, I asked Isaiah Cartwright about the issue at EGX, and he gave me an actual reply. He said he likes to watch the in-game economy, and he does recognize that Elonian Leather is too cheap, and Bolts of Damask are too expensive to produce. He never said how he would change that, but the fact he sees theres an issue with it, just shows that there is the possibility for it to be changed.

Random dev that no one ever heard of? You mean John Smith? The games economist? Who said that silk was intentional amd not an accident and working as intended? that many factors were taking into account and the consequences of the silk requirements were carefully weighed and considered before implementation?

There’s… no way this can be right, pdavis. Surely. Surely nobody would say that John Smith is “some random dev… who nobody had ever heard of,” because that’s… insane. If John Smith were one of the Six, every last one of my characters would be in his service. Even the non-humans.

That’s what i was thinking, however I’ve been involved in many of the threads (there has been several) and John Smith has really been the only one to respond. That is his domain after all…

Unless that person is new to the forums…

Also, John Smith IS the six. All of them. Yes, that’s right. The person(s) (still not sure if it’s multiple people or not) known as John Smith is each of the six gods.

Funny you say this. Not sure if you are being honest or not, but on two different occasions someone in GW2 has sent me 50g without warning or request. I returned it both times though I forget why the second person sent it, but the first guy sent it because I had lost about 300g in the Mystic Forge, seeking of course, ironically a precursor. I think my story of sorrow affected them so much they tried to comfort my losses hah.

What is the fastest / best way to get dusk ??

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

The fastest, most reliable way to get Dusk:

Press “O” to open up the BLTC
Navigate to the gem store and select “Buy Gems”
Enter in your credit card information and select how many gems you would like to purchase. (~$160 USD worth to have enough gold to buy it off TP)
After you’ve recieved your gems, navigate to the gem exchange. Convert all your gems to gold.
Navigate to the BLTC, search for “Dusk”. Place buy order, or buy instantly.

Now you are a proud new owner of Dusk!!

Seriously. This is the absolute fastest/best way to get Dusk. Anything else requries you to be extremely lucky, or spend a stupid amount of time farming dungeons and teq to get the gold needed.

Good luck!

Can't get into the game

Heres my point of view on it-

I currently havent been able to get into the game aswell since the patch. I been logging in everyday since pre but this past week havent played at all. When i enter my account email and password it fine untill i hit play. Then my computer freezes, i havent filled out a ticket since im not sure what that is. Also im not cumputer savy, i actually have to look it up on utube or yahoo to find out how to do things other people just know how to do.

Heres my other point, there are people having problems with the game since the patch. Is it not anet job who put out the game/ put in the patch to make the game accessible for the people playing it. I dont run any other software since this is the only game on my pc and i bought the family a ps4.

There is no one to talk to about the pc problems and i dont like doing things threw email. If people rage why isnt it ok for them to rage? There are so many other games out there and they want to play this one. Yet were having other people try to help us. ( I appreciate it) You are have people talk about using window mode with /gw2.exe. to play the game.

We could play the game fine until this past Tuesday so of course its frustrating when we have been able to log in and play for the past 3 years.(for gw2 and even longer for gw1)

Submit a ticket. This directly contacts Customer Service, and they can help you with your issue. After you submit a ticket download game advisor
http://us.ncsoft.com/gameadvisor

When prompted, save the file to your Windows Desktop so that you can access it easily. Please save the file before running it (running from the website can cause file issues).
Double-click on the Game Advisor file and then click on the icon of the game you’re experiencing an issue with.
Click on the Test Computer and Connection button. Once you do this, you’ll have to wait a couple of minutes while Game Advisor runs a diagnostic of your system.
Once the process completes, a “Test Result” window will come up.

You can email this test result to Anet, which will let them know whats going on, so they can fix it. More than likely they will ask you to do this when they respond to your ticket.

Contacting CS is far better than posting just in the forums. While they do read it and respond, this sends your issue directly to them, making it easier and faster for them to do what they need to do.

Good luck!

Always money problems, since im a WvWer and PvPer i make only 5-8g a day, i cant stand dungeons, fractals and crafting. Meaning i will not, or most likely will not make a legendary. So all i really want to spend my gold on is buying fashion for my characters or as of now new character slots, my main problem is i get lets say 30g~ and then i find something i need/want to spend it on. But then i realize i dont after i spend it, Which is why i cant afford anything anymore. Anybody have similar experiences or any advise?

5-8g a day in WvW and PvP?

I make less than that in a day playing PvE. Granted if I was chasing money I could make more, but I enjoy doing the things that I do, even though I don’t get a lot of money out of it.

If you are using anything like SweetFX or Gemfx (or whatever it’s called) There have been reported issues and problems with logging in due to those things.
Since those things are third-party, Anet has no responsibility to even attempt to fix them, nor should they.

A little more info about the problem would also go a long way to help getting this resolved, either by official channels, or from helpful people who put up with kittens regardless.

Will Night Capping ever change?

in WvW

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

There isn’t much Anet can or will do about night capping.

If you change the system to be different during “off hours”, than you punish people with different play times.

Why should a group of people who only get to play during certain times be punished for not being able to log in?

They changed this with the world boss schedule, and it already punishes players who cannot play until a certain time. However, they did allow guilds to be able to activate those events so they could still do them. So there are still options.

Yeah changing the way points are distributed would be a bad idea. There is no reason that I should not be able to get as many points, or points at all, simply because my life style doesn’t allow me to log in during “prime time”.

If anything, the servers should try to get more “off hours” players into WvW to help defend or cap during those times. They are there, but not very organized as many of the well known commanders are offline at that point. It should be up to the servers/players to get more off hours players invloved.

upgraded CPU to Intel T9600

I can run on low settings with native rending sampling, and never really had problems until the patch. Now every few minutes it lags really bad, then kicks back up to normal speed.
If I drop everything down to the lowest settings, it still gets really choppy, but at least it’s still (barely) playable.

I’m wondering if the FoV changes are putting too much strain on my GPU and thats why this is happening? Or if there is another reason?

If you need more info, let me know.

Sorry but the excuse it’s a small stat difference does not fly.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/No-grind-philosophy/page/4

“We don’t think you should need to grind to get the best gear and stats in Guild Wars 2”.

So what exactly does that mean:

- The best gear/stats: This means to have statistically the best abilities in the game, you shouldn’t need to, by our definition of the word, grind. This goes for leveling and getting top gear (by our definition that’s ascended gear, legendary being an optional extra thing you can do, but don’t need to do.)

Ascended is considered by arenanet to be the top level of gear. Also note how they clearly destinguish between ascended and legendary, and how they call legendary in particular optional.

The borderlands 2 argument still does not stand because it’s first of all an entirely different genre, you cannot just compare one thing one genre does with something another genre does. By that logic we should see first-person shooter elements because Borderlands does that too.
Also, borderlands 2 alone does not constitute a common practise.

Please keep the “no grind” discussion where it belongs in the appropriate thread.
This thread isn’t about grinding, it;’s about locking rewards behind paying for DLC/Content

Borderlands 2, although is a different genre, illustrates how video games in general use rewards/perks behind DLC as an incentive to buy the DLC.

Some other MMOs that have done the exact same thing are:
Everquest
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:Expansions
Each expansion brought a new element/reward only to those who bought the expansion.

WoW
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Warcraft#Expansions
Each expansion brough new elements/rewards only to those who purchased the expansions

Guild Wars 1 (arguably not an MMO)
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Eye_of_the_North
Brought elements/rewards only to those who purchased the expansion

For a longer list go to: http://blog.games.com/2013/03/14/top-10-mmorpg-expansion-packs/

Each expansion offers content/elements/rewards only for those who have purchased it. Why should it be any different for GW2? It’s already an industry standard.

But my argument is that stat combination shouldn’t be content locked rewards. Cosmetics, titles and such, sure, none of that has any impact in the effectiveness of anyone. Unless you try to sparkle someone to death.
Stat combinations does have an impact on how your character and the build you use performs.

The argument “the stats arent good” i find highly irrelevant, it’s people choice how they want to gear. And what is and isn’t good changes all the time.

I also do not care what Borderlands does, it’s a very different game in an entirely different genre where it’s not even that relevant. Chests also do not function exactly like you said.

But stat combinations are not locked behind paying for the LS.
You can get sinister stat recipes in Silverwastes, as well as sinister stat drops. None of which you have to pay extra for.
For the ascended amulet versions? Yes, but thats the extra incentive to buy the DLC and complete it.

The difference between sinister ascended vs sinister exotic amulets is: +21 power, +21 precision, +36 condition damage.
Which really isn’t that much. Of course you can argue that having those extra stats is important, but in the end, it’s not going to make a noticable difference. At least not a big enough one to absolutely need it and not being able to do certain content because you don’t have it. (As far as fractals are concerned, you can get all the AR you need without having an ascended trinket.)

I agree, about the “stats not good.” It’s very subjective and some people like it. So it’s not really a valid argument.

As for Borderlands. The point is, other games lock rewards behind DLC content that you have to pay for. It’s not uncommon. I used Borderlands as an example, because thats also one of my favorite games. So the illustration that it is a fairly common practice is still valid.

But dungeons arent the only way to get, f.e. Berserkers gear. And neither do dungeons require seperate purchase through gems in order to play them.

The convert to gems argument i find troubling because people can get a big variance in how much they end up “paying” because you are depending on a variable market.
And 30g isnt exactly peanuts, it’s not difficult, but it can be quite time consuming. Especially for newer players, who are likely the one’s that missed out on the free unlock and don’t have as much experience.

That effort and time spend to acquire 30g just to then get the oppertunity to grind more to unlock the stat combination you want. A grind within a grind.
Fact it’s currently 30g44s for 200gems, this already shows that prices can go up quickly. Last i checked (<2weeks ago) 25g would’ve gotten you those 200gems.

I never said anything about specific gear stats. There certainly other ways to get Beserker gear. But dungeon tokens are used for more than just beserker gear. Legendaries for one. And yes, dungeons don’t require you to buy something in order to get it.

Converting gems may not be the best the best option, but it certainly is an option. Plus the more people convert gems to gold, the price goes down, and everyone wins. Also gems can be purchased for cash at the standard unchanging rate of $1.25 for 100 gems.

But my point is specific rewards require doing specific content. Whether that is dungeons, map completion, WvW, PvP, events, dailies, etc. If you want the rewards for doing the specific content, do the specific content. Just because some of it is locked behind having to buy some DLC, doesn’t somehow make it unfair or P2W (not that you are syaing its P2W, but generally speaking) Those things are rewards for buying the DLC.

Should players have access to everything, including DLC content and the rewards associated with it, without having to buy it? Or log in the game during a certain time period? Other games do this all the time. Limited time sales, or free time windows, etc. But no one whines about that. But GW2 does it and the sky is falling, because it’s unfair.

An example of that is Borderlands 2. There is a chest that gives you uber awesome gear that you can open with special keys. (think BLTC chests and keys.) The keys don’t drop in-game, and the only way to get them is to buy them with cash. Now occassionally they would do a promotion on twitter to get a free key. Is that fair to people who don’t have twitter? Or follow them? Or check their twitter in the 2 hours it’s available?

P2W probably not. But it sure is weird that if you want to get certain stat combo’s on ascended you need to buy that chapter of the LS, and complete the achievement.

Why these aren’t just added to the vendor for everyone puzzles me. Getting an ascended trinket for free isn’t a good enough reward?

It is, but it gives you the option to buy more if you want to. Plus the Jewel which has the same stats is available through the vendor without having to unlock anything.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jurah%27s_Jewel ?

Because that isnt sold by any vendor untill after you complete that particular chapter.

Edited my post.

I don’t think that it is strange to lock rewards behind completing content. Almost every aspect of the game does that. Want dungeon tokens? Run dungeons, or PvP. Want karma? Do events and PvE dailies. Want gold? Do activities in game that give you gold (or use your credit card). Want a legendary? Do map completion. The list goes on. Want a specific reward that is granted from doing specific content? Do that content.

Edit: Correction. You need to complete point of no return to be able to buy it from the vendors. You don’t have to do all the achievements, just complete the episode.

No guys, you’re missing the point. Everything in this game is Pay 2 Win cause you had to buy the game in the first place. In order to play the game and have things with which to win you had to pay, so it’s totally P2W.

Thank you for setting me on the correct path!!! I will now go forth and preach the truth of the P2W! Let all who hear bask in the revelation from above!!

Ok Thx for lecture as i know it shows me the gam? a bit better… its closer to League of Legends than the standard tank/healer/dps MMORPG. now i am stuck with Engineer and Warrior. But as i read tons of forums both players ar? complaining about those classes. Is it possible to make a good suppoort warrior with Shield and som? shouts? Or Engineer that willl bring som? support?

Keep in mind that players are going to complain about everything. Right now the biggest complaint is that engineers are too overpowered, and cheese to play.

It certainly is possible to play a shout/support warrior, or a support engineer. Nothing wrong with that. In the end though, have fun, if you are playing something because you feel that its the only way to play the game, and if you are doing anything else than you are wrong, then you have to ask yourself is it really worth it?

I thought this was available in several NPCs?
Can’t you even buy it with bandit crests?

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wynne%27s_Locket

You have to unlock it via seeds of truth story chapter by completing all the achievements (Which gives it as a reward for completing all the achievments). After you’ve done that, then you can buy it for laurals or 10g and 1000 bandit crests.

Ah, my bad then. Still doesn’t really make it P2W. I certainly didn’t pay anything to get mine.
Besides 200 gems is like 30g, depending on the days, not that hard to get.

Yeah, P2W? not so much.

30g too grindy to get? $2.50 USD is how much it costs. Thats far less than a cup of coffee or a bottle of water in some places. If $2.50 is breaking the bank for you, you got bigger stuff to worry about than whether or not GW2 is P2W…..

In an ideal community… players could also pm a person and compliment them on placing some good siege. Not just harass for bad placement but compliment as well.

I saw a placement of a great treb yesterday, and most definitely would have given him props for his placement. Only I didn’t know who it was.

True,

But generally speaking, how much more often does things like that happen, than someone QQing about something stupid? Like calling the person who just killed you a noob, and l2p and a host of other things… (yeah it’s happened. They died 1v1 vs my condi necro as a thief, and tried to whine to me about it, doesn’t make much sense.)

Also has the exact same stats as Wynne’s locket.
However, the locket has a defensive infusion slot, and the jewel has offensive.

In PvE, it would be more preferrable to have the offensive infusion over defensive. But for WvW, the opposite might be true. But that depends on your build, and what you are wanting to do.

Not bad.
As long as it QoL type stuff so it wouldn’t be game breaking

1. Do a lot of players even care that there is a leaderboard?
2. Could be helpful

Well, if more people know there is a leader board then more people would care about it.

Not necessarily. Thos who really do care about such things, will actively look for them. Those who don’t, don’t care. Sure you can have a link to the leaderboards in-game, but that doesn’t mean any more people will read it. And honestly the leaderboards don’t really mean much. At most it shows that X player has played more than Y player, or is a better player. But how does that help to improve the game? It’s only there for people who like to see their names at the top of a list. It doesn’t necessarily drive players to improve. If they like the game, find they are getting killed alot, and want to improve, then they take it upon themselves to do so. All that without ever looking at or caring about a leaderboard.

I’m ok with putting names on siege. If you’ve built a good community, those players will help train the newbies for siege placement, rather than harassing them. If they harass instead of help, report them for the harassment.

Turning down an idea to stop trolling because “rude players are rude” is not a very good argument.

Also, a system like this discourages people from playing poorly. So many people play poorly because they can hide behind a veil of anonymity. Same reason people troll and harass – anonymity. If things are more transparent, you will have less trolling, less harassment, and less poor play. Do we really want to encourage the following line of thought: “I’m going to do this stupid thing because nobody will see me do it, and even though it’s going to hinder others’ enjoyment of the game, it won’t come back at me, so who cares?”. I sure hope we don’t.

The whole premise resides on IF you have built a good community. The fact that players are trolling would suggest that this good community doesn’t exist. In an ideal community, there would be no reason to have names on seige, as people wouldn’t be trolling. There would also be no reason to have a reporting system in place at all. No reason for GMs, and no reason to even have such a discussion.

A perfect society cannot work, because people are people with all the faults that are common among people. Sure it’s a great ideal, but unless human nature itself changes, it cannot work.

Having names on siege opens up more opportunities for harassment. Say a noob placed seige incorrectly. What is to stop someone from PMing them, and raging on them because they need to “L2P noob! Place the siege right or GTFO!”?
A good community? Sure, but again, people are people. As shown by the fact that people are raging, harassing, and trolling.

I really don’t see how placing the names on seige stops trolls from being trolls. I do see it creating more problems, maybe not seige trolling, but more harassment and a worse community than it already is.
Having seige reportable however removes the name, but still allows GMs to investigate and take action. If trolls know they can still get caught by just reporting their 15 rams in an open field, that in of itself should be a deterant. This way they can still do whatever without actively being observed, but it will come back to bite them after the fact, instead of during.

What confuses me though is that the character created was still at the start of its starter mission. If it quit out of there and was used for gold seller spam, surely it wouldn’t go back to that mission in the next relog?

I don’t know, but if its the starter mission and the gold seller (which it most likely was) just logged in and started spamming but never left the mission, I would think that it would go back into the starter mission. I don’t know though, never tried it. I don’t think you can skip the starter mission. If you quit during it, you would lose all progress on it, and have to start it again.

Change your passwords…All of them.

Your emails, you game accounts, bank, etc.
If you have a compromised email, all your other things you use that email for may also be at risk.

Also setup mobile authentication to help secure your account.

As for anything Anet might do, there isn’t much they can do. As you’ve said, you’ve deleted all characters and haven’t used it in several weeks. They could possibly do an account rollback, but if its an unused account I am not sure why you would want to do that, as they can only do it once per account.

In any event you’ll have to submit a ticket to CS and see what your options are.
Good luck!

Forum needs rework

Maybe you guys missed the memo? We are considering new software. It’s not on the shortest list for a decision, much less are we able to make a quick change, but it is something we’re examining.

[SNIP] We regret that the search engine is not functioning properly right now…

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the search engine ever worked? If so, when did it stop working? I’m not sure that I recall that it ever worked, but I could be mistaken.

In any case, I’m having a difficult time understanding why exactly the forum search engine would be broken for so long and/or be so difficult to fix. Nearly every forum on the internet has a working search engine; it’s not brand-new cutting-edge technology. Honestly, is ANet doing so poorly financially that it cannot afford to have forum tools that work?

The problem is deep within the technology behind the forum structure itself. Yes, we had a search engine in the beginning, but it was broken by our forum contractor in the course of working on other things. We no longer have a relationship with that contractor or his company, and someone else is not able to step into the system and fix the search engine because (1) our programmers are tasked with other essential work, (2) the forums run on a web framework with which most of our programmers are not familiar and (3) we’re investigating other options for forums and it would not be prudent to pour money into hiring someone to fix this as a short-term solution.

My team agrees that it would be great to share the system that is outlined in the OP, and we’re going to figure out a way to do that. It won’t be as simple as “plumbing” the current search window to go to Google — each of us still will need to input the search manually, but it’s better than the current “poke and prod” to find a particular post!

IIRC Gaile said recently that most of the problems with the forums are due to the software they use, and there isn’t much they can do on their end to fix it. Also that they were considering using different software in the future.

I’ll try to find the post, but yeah a different system would be nice, but as it is, it’s a minor inconvience.

Why not just attach a name to the siege, that way there is no guessing on who dropped it or false blaming someone else/guild? That way it’s easier for people to get called out on it and easier for Anet to track down as the person who dropped it will get reported much quicker.

you mean easier to falsely accuse people of wasting supply on ‘regular’ siege or yell at them for ‘poor placement’ even if it was a very good placement at the time it was thrown?

Agreed. Thats how I feel about it as well.

I still like the idea of being able to report the siege itself. This keeps people from attacking and harassing players, but it gives the GMs a chance to look into the matter and take action as needed.

To me it’s a win/win situation.
It deals with seige trolls, and gives the GMs the tools to track them down.
