It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
You could choose to be offended, and let them dictate how you feel, how you will react. Allow them to control your emotions and actions. Or you can choose to not take offense, and not them them control you.
When you allow them to control you, you give them more power. You are essentially saying, “I am giving you control over my feelings, and letting you choose how I react to your words.” If you don’t give them that control, then they have no power. Is that going to stop them? Probably not. But it will certainly make your life easier by refusing to let them control you.
A “control” metaphor is useful, but so is a “power” metaphor. I’d prefer to have the power to take action rather than be powerless against them with my only recourse being to hide.
It’s not hiding by not letting them bother you. It is in fact taking action. And in doing so you take the power from them.
Oh, I don’t let them “bother” me. I just report and move on. I just wish they got banned harder because of those reports.
I can see that, but there are times when action is taken against those people by Anet. Again, they have limited resources available to do that to every report every time, as well as respond to and review WvW reports, PvE/dungeon griefing reports, botting/hacking reports, etc.
I would assume there are thousands of reports each day, and not all of them can instantly be reviewed and acted upon. Plus I am sure that reports are dealt with on a “first come first served” basis, and not so much on the nature of the report.
Thats not to say that nothing is being done. But it’s silly to expect immediate action whenever a report is made.

Guardians of the flame!? OMG!!! I thought I was the only one to have read that!!! (Of course the later books were aweful, and the author didn’t know how to end it, so over all it was “meh”. But still a great concept.
As for me…
I would choose necromancer.
Not having to deal with condition stacking issues.
I am not sure about which mechanic to implement as far as “being in Tyria”. As most of the ones I would like to see are mainly quality of life stuff that only makes sense while playing an MMO.
I would try to find Marjory…yeah…shes hot….
I would call DR home. It’s kind of awesome.

So the problem with players who consistently verbally abuse other players is… that we get offended by it?
“Sorry, it’s the internet!” is a poor excuse. If they do it, ban them. If they come back and do it again, ban them for longer. Start with a 24-hour ban and make it 24 hours longer each time. Once they start getting week-long and two-week-long bans, maybe it’ll change their mind.
Until they buy the game on sale and get a fresh account, of course. But I guess there’s not much you can do about that.
No the problem with verbally abusive players is that they themselves are often acting out based on something else. And the very nature of the internet allows them to do that “safely” (In their minds, because at worst they get banned, but they aren’t going to get physically injured or anything.)
And yes….
How we respond to and react to such things defines us as people.
But there is nothing Anet, nor anyone else, can do to stop them. Becuase the problem lies within themselves. They could be banned, sure. But will that stop them? Not really. Because banning people is only putting a bandaid on and not addressing the real problem of why they are behaving in such a manner in the first place. And that is something that Anet is not responsible for in any way shape or form.
Look at bullying in schools. There are campaigns against bullying, and people standing up and speaking out, and yet bullying still happens? Why is that? Because the reason for why people are bullys is not addressed. It’s the same thing here. We stand up and speak out against kittens in PvP, report and ban them, but the reasons why are not addressed. So it’s still going to happen. If you want it to stop, then get to the bottom of why they are doing it. But again that is not something Anet can, or should, do. However the players can certainly make a step in that direction. But even then it’s up to the indiviual to decide to look into themselves, and make the changes needed to be a better person over all.
So until that happens, the only thing we can do is continue to report, and take a stand and choose not to let such things control us, or dictate how we feel or play the game.
Hm. What I find strange, is that John Smith posted on here, but only to comment on the validity of the thread, rather than the topic itself.
Is this an issue ArenaNet doesn’t care about, or is it just something they’re aware of, but don’t want to discuss right now?
It is something they are well aware of, and in fact John Smith said several times in various threads about the matter, that Silk was intentional and is working as intended. He also said in regards to player perception of a broken economy, that he doesn’t care. So from those type of statements that he already has made, one can reasonablly assume that in rergards to silk pricing is: that it is fine, its working like it should, and he doesn’t care about the misconception of silk being overpriced.
he said he doesnt care if players are unsatisfied with economy? really?
Question:
Do you care/will do something about the fact game economy is really perceived as broken?
Or if you instead think its well perceived, why don’t you look at every single thread that had the luck to remain for few hours in general section? There were many threads about how important economy perception is in a videogame.
If by “really perceived” you mean that you mistakenly perceive a fantastic and functioning system as broken, then no… I don’t care.
OP:
It’s not a game issue, it’s more of a social/pychological issue than anything. Anet does what it can by putting in the report options, but they also don’t have unlimited resources to act on every report by every player right away.
Does it suck when you are seeing things in chat that are offensive, whether directed at you, or in general? Certainly. But welcome to the Internet. People are allowed to hid behind being anonymous. And thats fine, but while behind that shield, they tend to let their “true” colors show by how they respond to other people. But there isn’t much one can do about it. Sure they could get a ban, but that isn’t going to change them as a person. As soon as they get back on, they will continue to do the same things.
In the end though it’s all about how you handle it. Just like in RL there are people who are going to say horrible things to you, and there isn’t much you can do about it. How you handle it though is a very different matter. Are you going to let some jerk dictate how you feel? If so, then you’ve already lost.
Instead of trying to change them, try to change yourself. Instead of looking at such speech as an attack on you, look at it as coming from someone who has their own issues (and we all do) and is just lashing out because they don’t know how else to cope. Its a change of perception. And if you can make such a change, you’ll begin to see that all people are pretty much the same, and that we all are kittened up. But you don’t have to effected by someone elses kitten. Offense is a choice. Choose not to be offended and life will be so much easier.
Good luck!
@OP
Yeah getting map completion in WvW with any class is a pain in the kitten, but it is possible.
Here are some things to try:
-go the back ways. Try to “sneak” around and reach your objective from another angle.
-If you see the enemy closing in use the /sit or /sleep commands. sometimes if they see you do this, they will leave you alone. It doesn’t always work as some people are kittens, but I’ve had some success with this.
-Log in during off peak times. When I was doing it, thankfully I was working nights/swing shifts so I was able to log in during times when there wasn’t a whole lot of opposition.
-Try to find a group. Sometimes if you have a small group running around, and they see you not trying to cap anything and just doing the map completion they may leave you alone.
-Try to invite them to a party and let them know you are just doing map completion. This also has worked for me, and I was able to do a bunch of the map with little harassment.
-Log in at reset. Many times during reset servers will do a flip train on all the maps. If you can find a zerg doing this, join them and get many of the points. If you can’t find a zerg doing this, try to get one together.
It takes time and patience, but it can be done. Remember, if you give up then you have failed. As long as you keep trying you will succeed.

Well depends on the condis i suppose? Some skills and traits can remove CERTAIN conditions. That being said, all classes have a fair amount of condi cleanse options, however it is not always easy to gain these condi cleanses without sacrificing other things. There is also a difference between group condi remove and individual condi remove. For example necros have a signet that can transfer all condis to the target, and a heal that consumes all conditions. But a shoutwar with trooper runes can strip condi for up to 5party members…
Like a lot of things in this game it really depends on the situation.
don’t forget necro also has well of power, which converts conditions into boons, Lich form 5 which also is a cleanse.
I went rabid/krait runes with sinister amulet. You can get it in SW for 1000 crests and 10g.
Plus in SW you’ll see condi necro is perfect for that. Many of the husks, and bigger enemies have natural resistance to direct damage, so condis rip them apart. It’s fun!!
Tamper with the trading post to bring the price down. (short term fix.)
HERESY!
Go place minimum value bids in for an ecto 1 at a time for 200 ectos as penance.
That made me laugh way too hard!
Yes, trading post is sky-rocketing the prices of some items…
I think arena net should do something about that..
This is getting out of control and it’s crazy..
People who play Trading post more then actual game, ruin the gaming experience.
Trading was never that horrible as it is in GW2.I hope we can have some changes to that. Ty ArenaNet.
What changes would you propose? Anet doesn’t do anything with TP prices, those are controlled purely by the players. (willingness to buy and sell). Playing the trading post actually serves a good purpose. It helps take gold out of the economy. Each transaction those players makes, takes 15% out. The gold that people spend on the TP isn’t going away, it goes to other players (minus 15%). So its actually helping to distribute wealth, as well as keep inflation from causing everything to spiral out of control, and cause John Smith to hurt baby quaggens.
THINK OF THE QUAGGENS!!!!
Right now, people are buying up a lot of t6 mats to create new ascended armor for their Revanents, and the new legendaries coming out with the expansion. However, the market can, and will stabalize as it always does, and you’ll see them go back down to an equalibrium.
Wanze: Did I do it right?
You also have to consider chaperon, compensation, health and welfare, and other things.
In order to have a minor (anyone under 18) they have to be present with a parent or legal guardian. Also such things can be considered “gambling”, even in contests of skill, as you pay an entry fee to compete and a “chance” to win money. And in the US, gambling is restricted to age 18, or higher depending on the state.
Plus there are liability issues that go along with allowing a minor. If a minor gets injured while competing in an event, that opens the hosts up to all sorts of legal actions. In the end there is just too much to worry about, and too many variables to take into consideration to make it worth those hosting such events time.
It’s mainly those that RP in this game that would take issue. I’ve seen others use it in complaints as a catchword of sort to draw support similar to how people throw P2W at anything.
Immersion = Pay to Win.
Confirmed.
As others have said, immersion is up to the indiviual player. There are also different levels of immersion. Someplayers like to have total and utter RP while playing the game. They adapt a certain persona each time they log in. Others are less involved and don’t look at things from a lore/RP perspective at all, and others immerse themselves by crunching numbers. (I can’t understand why anyone would just want to math all day…but hey if that works for you…).
If you find something in game that “breaks” immersion, just try to ignor it. They built the game to cater to a variety of players, and not everyone has the same level of immersion. Even among RPers, there are those who do “take it too far” as far as other RPers are concerned.
Hi!
1) Living story is the general story line of the game that takes place after your personal story. Season 1 is currently unplayable, but you can buy the past episodes of season 2 in the gem store. These are playable at level 80 and assume you have completed the personal story.
2) Profession specializations are feature in the Heart of Thorns exapnsion pack coming up. They allow level 80 characters to do bigger and better things, providing a different way to expereince the same characters.
3) Don’t really worry about a build until level 80. By then you’ll have access to all the traits, either going around the world and unlocking them by doing certain things, or purchasing them for your profession trainer for skill points and coin. Respecing can be done for free at anytime you are not in combat. This lets you change your build on the fly to adapt to diffferent situations rather than be stuck in a certain role.
Hope that helps!
They’re also not all achievable anymore. Well…ok, one could feasibly sit around waiting for days for a group who actually want to do the Bloodtide escort for the Orrian Relic….but then that’s assuming Triple Trouble isn’t up.
I know some people resort to saying, “Well, the idea is that you should have to work to feel the sense of accomplishment”. Sitting around waiting for people on a dead map to do an event no one wants to do but that is necessary to get the collection item…and having that further stymied by a a mega-event that nearly always fails but does succeed in preventing obtaining the collection item"…there is absolutely zero sense of accomplishment in that.
For the Orrian Relic one, you COULD always put it in the LFG, and or ask your guild. Or just try to solo it. Instead of waiting around for people to come to the event, try to find them.
I’m no fan of Powerpoint at all..
While Powerpoint is a widely popular program, there is also Kingsoft Presentation Free 2013 that offers the same functionality as powerpoint, and it’s free.
@OP
I wouldn’t mind a discussion but please frame a topic with some actual points.
PPT vs GvG doesn’t give much to go on….
I used to have this same problem. Until, you know, I discovered you can in fact refine them. It costs 15s for reagents and 2 bloodstone shards (4200 karma). 100 mats now become 1.
What you are asking for is in the game as you already know since you mentioned it. It sounds like you would rather deal with a full bank than to spend the small investment of money and karma to free that space up.
This is what it all boils down too:
I don’t know, but the bandit weapon collection has a pretty cool reward, as well as the trash collector.
Yeah, some of the rewards do seem underwhelming, but they are optional. So do the ones you want, and leave the rest.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a Vinewrath fail. There have been a couple of breach fails, but never a Vinewrath. Maybe it’s just me though.
There is one thing that kind of bugs me in Silverwastes. It’s not the bandit chest trains, its the AFKers at the chest in the hidden depths. They all sit there waiting to get to a higher tier, but don’t participate. Last night saw about 10 people just chilling at the chest, it failed. But when it started up again, those same people just hung out, and went and grabbed the chest when we finally made it to tier 2.
If thats what they want to do, fine, but I just find it rude and irritating.
Or here’s an idea, make them sellable. I don’t even care if it’s not on the BLTP and only to vendors.
Have you had any moments where you look at the market reaction to something you consulted with and said to yourself “I done kittened up”?
Bloodstone dust. Nothing like checking numbers after a meeting to see how much something has increase and there’s 10 more digits than you were expecting.
10 more digits!? Holy Clam Sauce Batman!!!!!
Thats quite a bit.Other than Mawdrey, have you considered another Bloodstone dust sink? Maybe some new recipes or something?
Also what about the global economy ramifications of making Bloodstone Dust, and other ascended crafting mats vendorable?
I would be less concerned with the global economic ramifications than the fact that adding a vendor value isn’t an elegant solution, you should get something for that material that isn’t 2c, because 2c never feels good and just adds to the money supply.
edit: double post for forum formatting
Not a terrible idea, but as John said, it’s an inelegant solution. Plus with so much of it around, it would certainly add a bunch of coin into the economy. Even at 2c per bloodstone dust, I have at least 1000, thats 20s. And there are lots of people who have tons more than that just chilling in their banks.

stephoa: Thank you!! I hope that new players do see this and try to learn something. At the very least it’s some good advice that may help someone.
Phys: I agree. Dungeon running has changed dramatically since the days before the LFG and before anyone really knew or understood what they were doing. It’s a completely different game now as far as running dungeons.
Mokambo: Sorry to hear that you’ve had a bad experience in dungeons. However, this guide is to help minimize those things from happening to others.
But to comment on your points:
1) Profession choice does appear to be an obstacle main because parties are unwilling to adapt. Not because certain professions are bad. I’ve successfully run dungeons with my ranger and necro. The 2 professions that are not considered “meta”. I’ve soloed dungeons with my ranger. The problem is that some veterens got caught up in the “meta” and that you cannot run a dungeon with X profession without realizing why. The old school veterens (from the days of launch) I feel have a better understanding of whats going on, and are seeking the most efficient runs possible, mainly because they’ve run those dungeons hundreds of times. The others only exlude because they were taught that its not meta, and will critically hamper their efforts. (Which of course isn’t entirely true. Having a necro in the party isn’t going to cause it to wipe, or a ranger isn’t going to dramatically increase the length of the run to the point where other party members are not going to be able to do anything else in game.) The truth is that you can have a successful dungeon run , in a reasonable amount of time with any profession, as long as the player knows what they are doing.
2) Plan A: Always a good idea. However, some people are not willing to teach, and thats fine. But even an inexperienced player should at least have a general overview of the dungeon they are trying to do. There are plenty of resources available, that do apply to “noobs” without overwhelming them. Also bear in mind that some LFGs only say Px. Those, while not having specific requirements, are almost always looking for experienced players, and efficient runs. Starting out, look for groups that say “any welcome” or something to that effect. Or start your own.
Plan B: NEVER A GOOD IDEA. EVER.
Its things like this that give pugs a bad name. Players not knowing what they are doing, and too afraid to ask. This then leads to new players picking up bad habits, which give certain professions a bad rap, and results in more frequent kicks from groups. If you don’t know, speak up. Period. If you get kicked for speaking up, then that dungeon group wasn’t for you. And you’d be better off spending your time with someone else. If you are in a guild that doesn’t have someone to teach dungeons, find another guild that will. Put a “willing to learn” LFG up. But in the end it’s up to the player to take the initiative and learn. There are tons of people willing to teach, and answer questions. You just need to seek them out. But don’t ever pretend to know what you are doing, thats just not cool. And if you do find someone willing to teach you, be sure to show your gratitude with a gift. It’s not expected, nor required, but it goes along way.
Heirloom seed pouches/bandit chest bags in silverwastes: Do they have the same drop rate of exotics and precursors as other champ bags? Or have they been adjusted due to the large volume of them?
(In two runs doing the events and hidden depths I got about 45 of things)
What makes me log off for the day?
When it’s getting late and it’s time to go to bed.
I don’t let things like turret engi’s or celstial d/d eles put me in a bad mood. Sometimes I die, sometimes I don’t. It’s not that big of a deal. When I pvp queue times don’t cause me to rage quit. I’m not going to let other players dictate how I spend my time in game, or influence my fun. But thats just me….
How many times now has this thread been made?
To date: 45,872 threads have been started concerning adding GvG.
7840 of those were about the name Guild Wars should at least imply that GvG is involved.
And 560 threads about how GvG should be accomplished.
(Just making up numbers, but it sounds legit.)
Asked and answered.
The name comes from in-game history and lore. GvG hasn’t been officially introduced into the game yet. From what understand is that GvG has been discussed and is a very likely feature in the new expansion. But we will have to wait and see.
You can start doing dungeons at the level they unlock, but if you are trying to get into an LFG check out this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/New-players-guide-how-not-to-get-kicked/first#post4825464
Basically those doing the story will generally be level appropriate, but if you are looking to do the explorable paths, most people expect a level 80 geared out.
Start your own LFG asking for others willing to teach, and you shouldn’t have a problem.
Im not even sure If I should say this but " I think we both know that the people that need to see this aren’t here"
Not to dismiss your work but its sorta like sayingStacking might is good. Using fear is bad*. Its sort of redundant in this forum, but I guess some lurker will see this and learn…
/slap self
Yeah, but I find there are a bunch of posts about noobs getting kicked from dungeons and come here to whine about it. If they are coming here, hopefully they’ll see this and take some of these things into consideration.
Of course you are going to have a large population of new players not coming to the forums, but if I can help those few, then I consider it a job well done.
Do’s and Don’ts
Some other tips while running dungeons that will help you keep from getting kicked.
Watch your fears.
Its extremely frustrating to have that group of enemies that you’ve carefully lured into the corner to die suddenly flee from the group. Try to avoid using fears in those situations.
Don’t go “Leeroy Jenkins” into a situation.
Most party wipes are generally caused by someone not following the plan, not stacking as agreed upon, and just running headlong into the frey. Doing this will likely cause you to be kicked before you have a chance to rez.
Bring your A game.
Don’t expect the rest of the party to carry you. Know what is expected of you and do it as best as you can.
Unless you ask ahead of time, and everyone agrees, don’t watch the cut scenes. Those wanting to do the dungeon fast have already seen them and just want to get on with it. Don’t make the party wait for you because you want to watch the cool cinematic. (Everyone should at least once. They are pretty cool)
In the dungeon game, DPS (Damage Per Second) is king. Do what you can to bring the most DPS you can get out of your profession. Those experienced in dungeons want a quick run. Bringing a regen guardian in cleric gear isn’t going to do that. Those builds and gear types do have a place, but not in an experienced speed run group. It will only hurt the efforts of the party.
Most importantly. Have fun. It is going to be a learning experience, and you’ll meet some really cool people along the way. Just remember when starting out, ASK QUESTIONS about things you don’t know. People don’t mind a noob. People mind a noob that won’t ask questions or try to learn.
Good luck and have fun!!
There are several threads about people getting kicked from dungeon parties, and the LFG. This guide is to help those wanting to get into dungeons but have a hard time finding a group using the LFG tool, and getting kicked.
Understanding why you are getting kicked
There are few things more frustrating than trying to join a dungeon run for the first time, finding a group on the LFG, joining, and getting immeditely kicked. The reason for this is most players are looking to do fast and efficient speed runs. They are looking for certain professions, or players with a higher AP (achievment points) as it shows that they have played the game and should know their profession and the basics of combat, and have a certain expectation of the players that join.
What to do about it:
Don’t join a “speed run, zerk only, exp only, Xk AP required” LFG. These players have every right to create and expect a certain type of player in there groups. If you don’t meet the requirements, don’t join.
If you are new to dungeons check out the stickies and these threads: here and here . These resources are great for just just starting out and learning how to run the dungeons.
Start your own group.
Create a LFG stating that you are new and want to learn. This is help bring players willing to teach, as well as others who have limited experience.
Know your profession.
Contrary to popular belief, any profession can complete any dungeon. The problem people have is people not knowing how to play their profession. Look up the guides, and builds/ideas in the profession sub-forums. Dulfy has some great class guides to help you get the most out of your profession.
Learn the dungeon.
There are plenty of walk through guides for each dungeon path. Watch these ahead of time. Learn how to fight the bosses. Know the encounters and special mechanics in the dungeon. Doing this will help you to be an asset and not a liability in any dungeon run.
Communicate.
Ask questions if you are unsure. Let the party know what you are bringing. (i.e. warrior banners) Let them know you are new. Lack of communication has wiped more parties than anything. It helps to bring everybody on the same page, and lets each member know what is expected of them. It’s much easier to work within the “role” assigned to you, rather than running around not knowing what you are supposed to be doing.
Understanding stacking
Many players have taken to “stacking” on certain encounters/boss in dungeons. The main reason for this is boon/buff sharing. While in a tight formation it is easier to share boons and combo fields. It also limits (in some cases) what attacks the enemy can do. It also provides a much greater opportunity for “cleaves” (hitting multiple enemies at once) and AoE damage/support.
In some cases, when a single player leaves/does not enter the stack, it can dramatically change the way enemies behave, which can cause a party wipe. It best to determine where/if the group is going to stack (some bosses stacking really doesn’t matter) BEFORE the encounter.
Gearing up/builds
It’s commonly accepted that the best gear for running dungeons is Beserker (Power, Precision, Ferocity). The provides the most damage output, or DPS. The more damage you can do, the faster the bad guys die, and the less chance they have to kill you. Of course this then leads to having to know the enounters, the boss tells, when to dodge, and how to survive. For players just starting out, it might be better to choose a set of armor that allows for a bit more survivability until you get used to the dungeons. It all depends on how comfortable you are with your abilities, and profession.
Weapons
The best weapons for dungeons depend on the profession. It is generally accepted that the weapons chosen offer a good “burst” damage, cleave, or the ability to provide some offensive group buffs. Although if going to be stacking, avoid using long range weapons as you can do more damage with a melee weapon.
Builds/traits
In each of the profession sub-forums, there are some dungeon peoples that people have put together that may give you some ideas. While it is generally accepted that most people choose a trait line and traits that maximize their damage output. There are also some variations that can provide a bit more utility and group buffs, as well as providing some survivability.
Let me see if I get this.
The OP would like to see survivability of a warrior reduced so they fit more into “a protect at all cost” role, and it is less “heroic/honorable” to be able to disengage from a fight.
Let me put it this way. If a warriors role is to protect at all costs they should have more survivablity if anything. You can’t protect someone/something when you are dead. It is honorable (and wise) to sometimes disengage from a fight. Contrary to popular belief, sometimes the more heroic action would be to fall back and regroup. It is foolish to think that a warrior can and should stand alone against a sea of enemies in order to protect.
There have been special instances in real life where a warrior HAS stood alone against impossible odds and prevailed, but they also did so by first falling back to a highly defensible position, “dug in”, and let the fight come to them. On their terms.
Necromancers are the same, except in GW2 ArenaNet decided to give them the ability to summon corpses out of nothing, only wear elementalist armor, and give up the self-administered bloodletting.
Blood is power says hello.
At OP.
I think that necromancers can “transcend” death in the times of GW2. They have the ability to “wear death” (death shroud) and to call upon the undead to serve them (minons). I would think that they are alive, but serve death. In the times of GW1 with the sacrifices and curses (which took a toll upon the user) I would think that they would still be alive, rather than undead, but because of the nature of their magic would appear to be undead, or extreamly frail at the very least.
As far as a lich is concerned. Yeah not so much. Lichs generally are: “Often such a creature is the result of a transformation, as a powerful magician or king striving for eternal life uses spells or rituals to bind his intellect to his phylactery and thereby achieve a form of immortality.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lich)
Its more than just being an undead spell caster.
why not make Twisted Marionette just like tri-head worm a World Boss ?
even if there is no breachmaker, it could be as reliving a past experience.
Actually twisted marionette was more like vine wrath than anything. But it was still super fun regardless.
This should be a testament to how great Evon Gnashblade is. Those that follow in his footsteps are blessed with an efficient TP layout view.
It is an efficient layout. But it does take a bit longer to load. Either way I like it, but it would be nice to have it change back.
I wouldn’t say a waste. Unless you are hoping to get something specific. I’ve bought a few keys with some left over gems, and used the ones that drop. I’ve gotten some ticket scraps, and a full ticket once. But the boosters are cool and helpful. The bank access, repair canisters, and merchant express items have been very helpful.
Maybe it’s just me though. I certainly wouldn’t dump a bunch of money on them in hopes of getting that super rare item. Thats just not intelligent.
I’ll check it again tonight. If it still doesn’t work I’ll subit a bug report and wait for the next patch. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Wahaha: Tried that. Nothing changed.
About how long? I’ve had it up for about 4 days and it hasn’t changed.
Is there a way to disable the “I am Evon Gnashblade” mode on the TP?
For those who don’t know what “Evon Gashblade”mode is, check out this video Here .
It puts all the TP listings in a smaller list, which can be very helpful if you are doing alot of stuff at the same time.
While it is cool, it would be nice to be able to change it back from time to time.
LOL! Thats pretty funny. I actually recognize some people in that pic. :P One of them is in my guild.
I agree, they’re pretty bad.
But mostly because I can’t choose a district/instance and can get shunted repeatedly into a dead instance where nothing is happening. And if that’s the case, I can’t do many events defending the forts because they’re not balanced for a single player to hold things off very well.
Other than that, I really kind of enjoy the map. In small doses. Which is just about how I enjoy the rest of the game – in small bursts of activity, then take a break until the next day.
Just use the LFG to find a taxi to a full instance.
Yes, that might work in theory if the last three taxis hadn’t been blatant lies about how full or how active the instance was
Maybe it’s me but I’ve never really had a problem with the events. Usually at first things are quite slow. But I can usually defend one fort 2, maybe 3 times solo. But eventually the map fills up and we get to the breach and Vine wrath. People generally want to do, but few people actually start it, and if they find an “empty” map tend to leave to get to it a bit quicker.
I don’t think it’s a problem with Necro’s per se, but rather players.
Does having a necro in your party make it so you are unable to do a dungeon path? Not at all.
Does having a necro require a completely new strategy and a change in tactics?
Not really (you can still stack and press 1)
Does having a necro mean that the party will wipe every time, at every encounter?
Nope.
Basically people want to do dungeons AFAP (As Fast As Possible). There is nothing wrong with that. But if you are joining as necro and getting kicked, it mostly out of a sense of eliteism, or misinformation. They don’t look at necro as high DPS, when in fact a necro can put out some great DPS, so in their ignorance they kick.
Your best bet would be to start your own LFGs with Any Welcome, or join those ones. You can’t force anyone to take you along, and you shouldn’t expect them too, but any welcome groups fill up super fast, and as long as you know what you are doing, most people won’t even know the difference .
What lordkrall said.
Much of it was massive open world content, full map battles, and bosses. In many cases, if you had less than a full map it was impossible to do. And this was in the days before megaserver, so people often had to guest to other places in order to do them.
If they did find a way to make it soloable/5 man party-able, all they need to do is throw it into the fractals of the mists. It’s easier to do time travel there, as it’s already been done, and the past is a part of the Mists already. It makes sense to use an already existing mechanic, then try to come up with a new way to traverse time that causes all sorts of strange things to happen.
@OP
It seems that your chief complaint is not that you didn’t get a pre after X amount of attempts, but that because you didn’t get a pre after X attempts, then your account has been “flagged, cursed, marked, etc.”.
It has been confirmed that there are 0 accounts that have been marked, or tampered with in such a way as to effect their Luck and or RNG tables. This is something that Anet simply does not, and will never do. So unless the devs are lying, which they have no reason to, then someone else who has a grude against you, and access to a voodoo witch doctor is responsible.
(And if they WERE out to get you with voodoo, or other occultic measures, why would they just target you GW2 account? Why not something like your job, or health, or something….Just saying.)
The Silverwastes is one of the worst designed areas in the game.
That is simply lazy.
To make things worse, the entire map is basically filled with the same enemies everywhere. With a few exceptions, we are just fighting the Mordrem over and over. This is very similar to Orr, in which we basically spend our entire time fighting the Risen, and it would have been expected that ArenaNet would have learned their lesson by now.
Even the little things lack polish.
ArenaNet built an entire map exclusively for grinders and farmers. It’s possible that no one else is left playing the game and ArenaNet is just cattering to their current playerbase. Or maybe ArenaNet knew that making high quality content would be too resource-consuming, so it would be easier to make a farming map, knowing that the grinders would go there even if the content were poorly done.
Its one thing to not be happy with certain things, its another to be overly critical and using language that implies that little to no effort was put into creating it.
Look at it this way. If you spent a long time working on a project. Then went to reveal it. But then some people came up to you and said that it was the worst thing they’ve ever seen. That you obviously put no effort into it, that it showed that you were lazy, unimaginative, and careless. Also that no one cares to even use it because it so god awful, and you might as well give up. Would that inspire you or anyone else to continue to create?
I get you don’t like it. But unless you want to be taken with any sort of credibility, the language you use matters very much in what you want to get across.
Also colin said there are multiple way to get ascended materials so having to do the same thing over and over doesn’t need to happen, and it implies that legendary and ascended gear falls into that optional grind.
(edited by pdavis.8031)
That means that saying it’s only for farmers (because I don’t farm and I like it) is simply your opinion.
Vayne, sorry to burst your bubble, but saying “it’s your opinion!” doesn’t invalidate an argument. And ironically, trying to refute my argument by claiming you like the map is incredibly weak, since that’s – guess what – just your opinion.
I don’t have to give evidence to support an opinion that I and other people are having fun.
Because you can’t.
You, however, would have to give evidence in your claims that it was lazy.
Already done. You simply ignored it (or didn’t understand it).
That’s how it works. You made the first statement and don’t really back it up at all. Why do I even need a counter argument?
Because that’s how this little thing called “having a discussion” works. I give one opinion based on arguments, someone replies with a different opinion providing counter arguments, and so on. And once in a while, someone who doesn’t understand what a discussion is pops in trying to mindlessly white knight, only to be proved wrong over and over.
The way I see it, vayne (your white knight), hasnt been proven wrong. By anets definition, silverwastes may be grindy, but is in no way required. You feel that it is a grind, and that certainly can appear that way, but isnt required to level or obtain high tier gear (anet said ascended doesnt count as its optional).
Thus as silverwastes isn’t required, its acceptable grind by anets standards. And thus in keeping with the manifesto.
In the end if you dont like it dont play it. Trying to call out anet for a single map you dont like is very disrespectful and straight up rude. There are lots of people who do like it and play it regularly.
Test: As stated by colin johnson above:Grind: To us, grind means being required to do the same boring activity over and over again. In particular, the biggest reference we’re talking about here in traditional MMO’s is having to kill the same creatures over and over again to farm for levels or gear. In Gw2, you can gain exp and levels from a massive variety of game play, game modes, and content types. Same goes for the ability to acquire the gear to build up your characters. Similarly, ascended mats can be acquired from a wide variety of content types and game modes to allow you choice and options so you don’t need to grind to complete those goals. Our new mastery system continues to this promise as well, which we’ll go into more detail on soon.
He goes on to say: There are certainly optional activities in the game players can embark on that I think we’d openly accept fall into the category of our definition of more “grindy”. Earning certain unique skins, and in particular some titles absolutely qualify as things we’d put on this list. Legendary weapons have components to them that fall into this category, though we’ll be doing work in HOT to make this much less the case. We feel these are optional choices players don’t need to do, but can if they want, and because they are optional are acceptable within our statement that “Gw2 doesn’t make you grind to have the best gear/stats”. That doesn’t mean we can’t make those activities more fun as well, but when we say “no grind philosophy” we’re not including optional things you can do, but don’t need to do, in our definition.
So silverwastes doesnt fall into anets definition of grind. Neither did ascended nor legendary weapons. The key word in all of that is REQUIRED. You are not required to spend anytime at all in silverwastes aside from the story.
You claim this is a grindy game yet confirm that you dont need to to grind as quoted in your signature.
As seen in my signature, ArenaNet thinks we shouldn’t have to grind in order to get the best gear in the game.
Yet, Ascended gear, which is the best gear in the game, is incredibly grindy.
Ergo, by ArenaNet’s own definition, GW2 has more grind than they think the game should have. Thus, it’s a grindy game.
Do you NEED to grind to get ascended? Is ascended required to do anything in the game aside from high level fractals?
Test. So what do you consider grind? What do you determine the purpose of grind? And does gw2 meet those standards?
You claim this is a grindy game yet confirm that you dont need to to grind as quoted in your signature.
In the manifesto this is what they were referring to. Its not required. Period.
You mean the "No one enjoys that. No one finds it fun” part of that comment didn’t exist?
It does. Certainly. But the context was grinding for gear in order to play parts of the game. There are people who do enjoy that and more power to them. No one (subjectively) likes to spend hours and hours grinding in order to get certain gear or they are locked out of a particular area of them game.
