Sorry that was my bad, I meant alpha not beta. there were reports from GW1 PvPers who were asked to join the closed alpha that there were a variety of game types for sPvP during the closed alpha and I think a few of them even showed up at demos during conventions (but never in beta)

You all are overlooking one clear benefit of having a cost associated with hosting these custom arenas; It will significantly reduce the amount of spam rooms and force users to really create rooms that are beneficial for the community. If everyone just made one for free, you would see the “F!uck you all rooms” pop up, etc. When someone has to drop a little bit (hopefully its like 500 gems at most for a kit, 100 gems after that to rent) of currency, it keeps the community in check regarding the decisions it makes. Not to mention, it supports the developers who have to, neigh, MUST, make money. Don’t forget this is an on-going game, with 24-7 servers, and constant (it’s been monthly since launch!) content releases and quality of life improvements. At least be realistic when you gripe here. If ArenaNet introduces a way to earn a very small amount of gems from free tournaments, etc, then I am 100% in support of these gem purchasing kits and monthly rental tokens. The main philosophy that I agree with ArenaNet and their use of gems is; Paying outright will give you access to their items (that have no game play advantage) quickly, but if you’re patient, you can earn access to the content at a slower rate through the game (i.e. hopefully earning gems with the release of non-beta custom arenas through free tournaments).
tl; dr – ArenaNet just needs to release spvp earnable gems to support this [custom arenas] and we’re good.

It’s possible to duo that path in less than 30 minutes. If you need 30 minutes in a group, sorry but you’re bad.
How is a full armor set 3450 tokens? Do you want all available weapons aswell?
not all, just all that my class realistically needs.
the rest are just as easy. also it’s the quickest..
If you feel like all paths are easy and p3 being the fastest takes 30 min + then the time is what you can improve a lot. For a smooth and easy run over 30 min in p3 isn’t fast at all no matter what professions you have.

Other dungeons offer gear and weapons with the same stats so split time running them if you have already done your path 3 for the day. If you are set on the arah gear then you are only slowing yourself down by doing 1 path a day.

did you read my post? I said it takes too much time and it’s too easy. anyone can do that who’s willing to do that much arah. what would be optimal with presige gear in my opinion is a certain level of display of skill aka make it hard, but not this long.
Thats a fair criticism but requires a huge overhaul of their core game principles.
dunno. they did a fair job with AC in my opinion. could give more tokens tho and some bosses could be slightly better, but not bad overall.
I feel it’s pretty rewarding based on the time I spent running dungeons. The only problem are easy boss fights that take forever (all HotW paths)

dunno Anet.. if it was at least slightly challenging then I’d say ok, but at the moment it takes 35 hours to get full armor and weapons in arah running the fastest path only and it’s very easy.
can we get a red post here? what do you guys hope to achieve with 2 people only? if you are serious about esports(lol), why don’t you hire a lot more? at this point might as well pull those 2, right? coz this ain’t going nowhere and that’s no monies for you..
It seems like the incentive should run the other way. WvW bonuses should be higher the lower on the ladder you are. This would tend to lead to people joining lower end servers and make the entire ladder more balanced.
Of course, the JQ people won’t like it, but they are a minority.

yep i agree. then again what about lower tiers? if the bonuses is great people will just pay to transfer~ made wvw map more unbalanced than now.
make transferring to top servers even more expensive. also you can’t transfer to full servers
what I’m saying is that there is no incentive to be at the top of the ladder rather than at the bottom

currently, war score doesn’t achieve this. it’s just a general bonus that’s given to everyone basically because you are matched with equally skilled opponents. any thoughts?
afaik Anet didn’t want a ladder system initially, thinking that even if one good world and two bad worlds are paired, the bad worlds could team up so that could’ve partially solved this, but it’s different now..
Many people in the GW2 community are noticing that the updates that are being announced are not always in great detail or fully tested, we know that the Developers can only work with what they have but I believe that they would get much more backing from players if we knew the amount of Developers that GW2 has working on content, expansions etc.

There should be multiple game modes all with thier respective leaderboards and you let the community decide which one is the preferred competitive mode.
As much as some minority is out there that dislikes it, I think a 3v3 or 4v4 team death match would emerge as the most played and most competitive mode. Let the player see decide, but you need to have options on the table first.

How is it a bad system? Ties are not an acceptable end result in tournaments. And so you need a way to determine a winner. Looking at total team score or even highest individual score is a simple and elegant way of breaking ties. Extending time and/or increasing point cap is much more work and makes for a more cumbersome system.
it’s surely a simple way to do it. it’s also completely meaningless. might as well do it with an rng.
I would stop the counter and count the next kill or whatever.

I just destroyed 4g worth of sigils coz I thought I don’t need them. thing is, they were pve sigils and apparently they showed in pvp hero equipment tab. can we have this fixed?

aside from the fact that melee is currently deemed UP, it might be beneficial to introduce ways to benefit people who run dual melee/dual ranged setups because melee/ranged offers a clear advantage by default. something along the lines of traits offering “+300 power(this can vary, tho with traits giving +70 whatever to everyone around you without drawbacks – you having to wield 2 melee weapons to get it in this case – this looks about right) while having melee(or ranged) weapons in both sets’ main hand”

it’s not better. it’s different purpose. if you want to salvage, use a BL kit. if you want to extract upgrades, use the perfect kit.
I’m glad you (the OP) find WvW dull. That means that you aren’t suited for it and won’t mess it up by joining it … and hopefully won’t find it necessary to post here again.

Yes.
Having it any other way is dumb. Only PvEers who want to stomp players with their gear and not skill would have it combined.
Again, this is far from the truth, ascended gear makes minimal difference and getting exotics is VERY easy and quick.

traits are great at the moment, very easy to respec, I love it.
your gear on the other hand is hard to change and that’s kinda frustrating. the insignia system in guild wars 1 was a pretty nice solution to the same problem. can we expect to see something similar for gw2?
you guys have said you are planning to release new game modes back in 2012 july or something.. can we get an update on that? I don’t think that the game can be fully competitive with conquest.
