Best build to carry noobs?

in PvP

Posted by: redslion.9675

redslion.9675

A question: starting by going far and then supporting mid might be a good carrying strategy?

And after that, should I bounce between mid/far, should I roam for side points or should I keep a point when I get it?

And when I am at Khylo, and see the enemy is using treb a lot, should I go intensively for treb and be always ready to attack it again when trebber comes to repair?

Strongest 1v1 Class

It also depends on the situation:

I’m an awful duelist. I will rarely win a 1v1 against most players on a dueling server.

But when I 1v1 in tourneys, I win much more.

Possible reasons:

-Psychological factors. I have nothing to show when I have to fight someone on a tourney, so I’m much less nervous.
-Tactical factors. Mesmers, for example, are deadlier the more room they have to teleport. Warriors learnt from months to get them on narrow zones to kill them.
-Gameplay factors. Less stealth around, and neither me or them plays a 1v1 oriented build.

You know what? You should ALWAYS play what you like, even if it’s OP, without worrying about not learning or enjoying the game.

Why? Because if something is OP, it will become a FoTM. As happened with warriors. But good/decent/more experienced warriors will slash through all those hambows. You don’t need to stop playing war because it’s OP. Just work to set yourself apart from and above bandwagoners.

Too bad the Tournament was TEAM Queue and every one of us joined solo.

Which it’s the first thing you shouldn’t do if you want to keep your rating up.

Just tried it out in a hotjoin. Utterly and completely clueless, lol. I end up mostly flailing with the axe, I block with the shield and usually get bursted down fairly quickly. Whenever I swap to the bow I end up running backwards in circles spamming the bow without a great deal of effectiveness. Also not sure how to handle thieves, mesmers and other evasive/stealth types, nor when to activate my long-cooldown utilities.

Remember, hotjoin is a mess. Always avoid 8v8.

And also remember even Axe autoattack can be deadly. But you need to remember you have to choose your ground carefully and force enemies on narrow points in order for it to land.

Arguments in favor of healing signet?

in Warrior

Posted by: redslion.9675

redslion.9675

I’ve absolutely melted Healing Signet Warriors before. It’s kind of funny watching them have no way to burst heal themselves after high amounts of pressure.

It’s a good heal in the right conditions. Does that mean it’s broken? Should we nerf every heal that has both strengths and weaknesses?

It’s not broken, it’s just stupid, as it’s leave and forget.

I think most people might be ok with the signet changed in order to require some actions from the player without being weaker.

The actions from the player are avoiding burst and creating opening to let the signet’s regen actually matter. Healing signet even when combined with Adrenal Health doesn’t make warriors invincible, or even close to broken. What it does is give them fantastic sustain at the cost of no burst heal. This means that if they fall behind in a damage race due to burst they can’t heal up to offset it. The only choices a warrior is presented with at that point is to back off and recover, or put as much damage as possible out to kill foes before they succumb to their own wounds.

In fact, Healing Signet is a good skill for real glass cannon GS wars, because it make disengaging/re-engaging actually rewarding.

But if I play a high toughness build, I don’t need to do stuff like that, unless i’m in a 2v1.

IMHO They should change the signet in order to reward this mechanic even more: so it rewards you more when you stay out of trouble without outright running away.

4. Do not expect the team to adapt to you. You have to adapt to them.

Problem is this applies for your whole team.

Most of the time, at all levels, you lose because all 5 players can’t adapt one to another. When this happens, you might see people running around not knowing where they could go to actually help and not get killed.

However, I see what you mean: if the team loses, it’s everyone’s fault and no one has the right to blame you, but you alone can make the difference.

Then, it might be me. I realize I haven’t played many matches (100, 150) and many times I make stupid mistakes (miss-clicking and failing to interrupt a stomper, for example) and realize right away what I made and what I should have done in order to prevent it. On the other hand, I’m starting to learn where to go and when to leave the fight as it is, and when to ress (when I can ress someone before the stomper finishes his animation) and when to stomp. IMHO practice makes perfect, for you have to obtain good and fast decision making.

About carrying the team… I’ve seen people having success by roaming side points exploiting the common habit of concentrating most energies on mid. What do you think?

And what do you mean by helping your team? Something simple like good aoe skills/cc or teamfight capability and ress/stomp experience or something more like support-oriented builds?

Thanks.

So my great adventures in PvP today included…

Losing something like 500-40 in a team queue match against a real team when I got paired with 3 thieves, 1 of whom quit in the middle of a match.

A solo queue loss where 2 or 3 of my team decided to keep running orbs when we couldn’t even hold 2 points consistently (and 1 only because I held it).

Another massive solo queue loss where I, as a mesmer with no direct damage, was forced to keep knocking out their treb (despite my asking for help) because they decided it would be more effective to all swarm mid and then stay there after the point was captured.

I was going to ask if it’s better at higher levels, but it doesn’t matter because I’ll never get there.

A bit, but where I am now strategies before matches are rarely discussed, and it’s hard to change it in other situations.

IMHO however the main problem with Final Thrust is that the character takes too much time to do that movement. He looks bored.XD

I mean… you could change the animation so that female characters might do something oversexualized in those 3/4 seconds (seeing those outfits, I’d bet Anet wouldn’t have a problem with it). That would make the game more enjoyable for both the user and the receiver of the screen.

But even then, what would males do?

In general, the skill is fine. It just looks like crap.

Ok, slow and doesn’t make you leap forward. That’s how it should work and I agree. But if all you di is a thrust, it’ll be an unreasonably slow thrust.

If you give Warriors access to near perma protection, engis can have healing signet too.

Mesmer pretty much has a refined version of Healing signet and I don’t see nearly as much QQ about them.

Its called heavy armor your pretty much always have protection compared to an engi with medium armor can I has my healing singet now.

Protection is *1.5 to armor. Can I be full zerker with 3k armor, plz?

Well, engis don’t have perma protection, and power builds can’t afford that. But yes, protection equals to increasing your armor by 50%

Said that, glass cannon war is squishier than glass cannon engi because invests more time melee and has less vigor.

Before someone jumps to my throat, though, I have to point out Hambow et similia are NOT glass cannons.

Because the crit builds up to 52% with sword and 42% on hammer, without counting unsuspecting foe. This with fury, which has a decent uptime.

I need hammer for downed state management: too many times I failed to save a teammate because is wanted to interrupt the stomper with shield 4 but swapped weapons in the rush. Now if I swap weapons I can still interrupt the stomper.

I killed many hambows by just standing in their face and autoattacking (not advisable in other situation, but I think it’s a fitting way to off a hambow). Too much armor for them to handle.

Warrior.

Even if I had to become a hipster to make me different than hambows (those aren’t warriors), I loved the class when it was weak, and I love it now.

The feel you get when you land a Whirlwind exactly where the enemy is going, or Bolas→Hundred Blades… priceless.XD

From my experience, it’s the class that leaves the most room for experimenting, along with engineer, but differently from the engineer leaves more room for tanky roamers with decent damage. This when the buffs don’t get out of hand, obviously.

Before warrior, I played engi, but felt like I was in a creative crysis with build crafting. I was bored with bunkers, and never really liked condi.
I played warrior because I really liked heavy armor, and liked the feel of raw power the class gave. And I loved how this class was still in the age of discovery some time ago, and experimenting with builds, tweaking with stats was fun.

Back in those days, warriors were simple, yet hard (remember Dark Souls: you have 3-4 buttons to press to fight. Does it make that easy? Does it make that simple? HELL NO!).

Just lost a solo queue match because, despite my repeated requests, nobody would help me take out the trebuchet. I went all the way there myself, barely lost to the warrior manning it, then had to go back again. While the rest of my team just ran around skirmishing and dying to the treb shots.

This is why I cannot win matches, and there’s nothing realistic I can do about it.

Yeah, I’m venting, but it’s frustrating.

I designed a build that can smite any hambow to the ground.

Alas, it’s a warrior build. It’s the second most played class, and my main for spvp since it was UP.

However, it’s normal: the same thing happens at all ranks. You try to attack the treb, and then one more enemy comes in aid of the trebber, and you go down. While your allies don’t give a crap, either because they think you can reliably win a 2v1, or because they just don’t think it’s important. Meanwhile, the trebber rains death on all your team. “Pros” scream “More peopel to defend home!”=“Let’s go and feed ourselves to the treb!”.

IMHO 2 people should go and destroy the treb, and one should always be nearby to attack the people who repair it. Learned this the hard way in team queue, with a team without voice chat (so we could discuss our mistakes, even if we couldn’t coordinate well). Someone has to be a dedicated “Anti-trebber”.

To give you an idea of the state of tournaments at the lower rank levels right now, on more than one occasion I have been in a position where I was downed and there was a teammate nearby who didn’t try to res me, or where I saw one teammate down and another didn’t try to help until I went and did it.

It depends on how many enemies were around.

And sometimes, you are put on the dilemma:

one enemy and one ally are downed. Your ally is being stomped. You try to stomp and rally or you try to revive?

Other than the fact that if they are clos you don’t know what you’ll get, what do you do? You have to take a gamble on how much health your hally has and will be decided in a split second.

Say you were hit by an attack that does 2 million damage (pretty common).

You know how damage is calculated?

That is the damage you’d get if you had 1 armor

@Caffynated

Why you think protection is 800 Armor?

800 is probably a little low, but it’s not that far off as far as quick guesstimates go.

Say you were hit by an attack that does 2 million damage (pretty common). Depending on armor/protection, you would take:

Armor – damage
1836 = 1089
1836 +P = 729
2580 = 775
2580 +P = 519
3516 = 568

If you go full berserker. A character with 2500 armor with protection has the same damage reduction of a character 3750 armor.

Well, it’s true that a team with 4 bunkers is unlikely to win because they’ll only have 1 person that might take down your 2 bunkers, and one person isn’t enough.

This while you have 2 bunkers and 3 people who can kill the bunkers.

Best thing for every player should be to always have at least a bunker and a roamer. Hoping you can learn to play guardian bunker by joining hotjoin.

However, what people complain about are single mistakes, like you screwed up a ress, or failed to interrupt a stomp. Most of the time this is into a small fight and the damage can be undone easily.

What really ends in defeat is the lack of a coherent strategy and not being able to realize what can be done if things don’t go as expected (example: you lose the fight at mid because the enemy has a better class comp than you, or at Khylo the enemy starts raining with treb and repair it repeatedly, so you need a roamer to stay mid and keep the enemy from using the treb).

Also remember than most of the time you get ganked it’s because you made a gamble (example: you didn’t see the whole enemy team on a point, or you get far when 3 enemies respawn). Most of the time, it’s a gamble you had to make, like: we have home contested, there’s a fight, I look at my allies’ healthbar and realize they might be alive when I get ther. Then they both get bursted down when you arrive, and you know there isn’t much you can do (try to revive, and they’ll focus both of you down).

I said condi cleanse OR stability, as some will use syg over cop. A ‘full burst’ guardian is 10/30/30/0/0. For them to pick up vigor and protection they typically use the more hybrid 0/30/30/5/5 build, but that drops 100 power and a 10% damage mod. There are other med builds out there, but they lack burst ability and tend to be more DPS oriented.

Not to continue to derail the thread, but I stand by my original statement that if you want to play as a more difficult warrior, just roll an offensive guardian.

I tried both.

Guardian is easier than hambow or condi in my opinion, but not easier than GS burst.

However, that’s what you get for putting all useful traits in one tree (defense) for one weapon set.

That would mean someone should always have it in control and tweak it every time the meta shifts.

Or well, having some generic system might work. But needs a lot of caveats. For example, a player with Soldier’s Amulet isn’t necessarily a bunker, so it’s not a player with Settler’s.

@Caffynated

Why you think protection is 800 Armor?
protection reduce dmg by 33% and so it buffs ALL survival tools from a class

its like
20.000 need 20.000 dmg to kill this guy
+50% armor so need 40.000 dmg to kill him
+33% from protection needs 121212 dmg to kill this guy

i dont know when protection is calculated before armor or after and my numbers ar jsut numbers to show what im talking about but ALL survival boons, utilites buffs each other and show the EHP = effective HP or how much dmg i need to kill this guy^^

I fear those numbers are wrong

However, 33% damage reduction is a +50% armor increase. Here is the idea:

If we consider protection to reduce damage received by 33% no matter what your armor is (instead of X%+33% where X is the reduction from armor), this means your damage is multiplied by 0,66.
Now, if the damage calculation normally is Z/armor, where Z is fixed, now it is 0,66Z/armor

Now, let’s make an equation to see how much armor is equal to a 33% damage reduction (armor 2 is equivalent of armor 1 with perma protection):

0,66Z/armor1=Z/armor2 → Armor 2 = Armor1/0,66 → Armor 2 = 1,5*Armor1

That means Perma protection equals a 50% armor increase.

I don’t remember Eles having it or not. Just wanted to point out a thing on numbers.

My warrior build has 2,872 armor with a zerker amulet on.
The old “OP” cleric’s amulet bunker ele had 2,580 armor.

Old ele was loaded with boons (protection, regen and vigor says hello) and stupidly high heal, from almost dead to full every few seconds.

Protection is equivalent to ~800 armor. A soldier/cleric/rabid warrior can have more than 1k armor more than the old cleric ele, effectively having permanent protection in comparison. The warrior also puts out a lot of damage, where a bunker ele hit for basically nothing.

And it was nerfed out of the game. Not exactly the example you want to use to try to defend your cheese.

They should nerf warrior, condi spam, evade spam from thief, AI spam from necros and rangers, and bring this game back and THEN fix things.

D/D ele would have been fine in this wretched meta.

(However, from what I remembered Ele damage wasn’t that low)

Offensive guardian is the hard made warrior. Or kitten warrior, ineffective warrior, half warrior, whatever you prefer.

Don’t underestimate med guardian. They have pretty brutal hps, even as burst, and have brutal damage. And can dodge more. What they lack are mobility and cc, which means they are effective in less situations.

They also lack condi cleansing or stabilty, and sustain if burst fails as their burst rotation requires them to usually blow 2 of their utilities on first engagement negating a lot of that traited healing. They only dodge more if they give up a lot of their damage.

Wait… Guardians have condi cleanse with Smite condition and Contemplation of Purity. Not the same, but IMHO it works.

They just need 5 trait points in Honor to get perma vigor.

They don’t have condi cleanse, but have a bit of on-demand protecion and blocks.

And I was talking about sword/scepter, which is more about sustained damage and doesn’t require utilities for bursts.

And scepter helps when aoe condi spam is too much.

GL with warriors, you have to be masochist if you’re still playing PvP with this pathetic meta anyways. I gave up long time ago and joined the dark side.

I played warrior and fell in love with the class before buffs, when it was the hardest ;_;

I don’t like mesmers, too pink. Engineers makes me feel equal to all the others with 3-kit condi (time to play power-control). I find Guardians and Ranger concept boring. Trahearne ruined necro for me and Eles won’t just shut up.XD

What can I do?xD

Why do people think a passive heal is worse(especially inbetween cc and immunities) vs burst than a active heal that can get interrupted and is also affected by poison?

Well, it’s not as long as the whole meta revolves around high sustain/resistant builds.

The shorter the fight, the better are burst heals compared to passive:

Let’s make an example: A war can choose between Healing Signet and Healing Surge.

Roughly it is 330 hps for Healing Surhe, 392 for Signet.

Healing Surge is at 10135 heal on a 30 seconds cooldown.

Now, if a fight lasts 15 seconds, and you use Healing Surge once, you’ll heal for 10135 over 15 secs, which is 675 hps. Much better than Signet, which is 392 hps. (if you don’t get interrupted and can cleanse poison before using the heal, which is indeed pretty easy).

If the battle lasts 30 seconds, and you land it once, healing surge will heal for 337 hps.

If the battle lasts 40 seconds, and you land it twice, healing surge will heal for 506 hps.

Morale of the story:

Healing Surge hps varies based on a combination between its cooldown and the duration of the fight.

As a generic rule, the shorter the fight, the more effective Healing Surge is.

The fact this is never used tells something about the meta. The only situation where you might want a burst heal right now is if you get focused, but in that situation I’d rather have an immunity than a burst heal that will be interrupted by chain cc or got by condi spam.

not sure what you are talking about.
warrior is balanced fine and dandy.

What are you, CASUL?

I’m a Dark Souls fan. That means two things:

1) I can’t stand magic spamming.
2) I can’t stand backstabs (For these 2 points, only DkS PvP players will understand)
3) I want a challenge.

That means my favorite class will be a warrior. BUT I want them to be hard. And deep. And complex.

If they want a CASUL-Friendly class, they’ll either need to chose another, or split warrior in 2, like they meant at first (warrior and juggernaut). If they do the latter, please be the juggernaut the harder to play. That’s because the name Juggernaut is cool, and you can get better by watching this video:

I guess people complain about Skyhammer because rolling their face on keyboard with fotm build is not enough. You actually need a brain to not get outplayed and avoid long drop and sudden stop.

Actually rolling your face on keyboard with fotm build is the best strategy for Skyhammer.

Ain’t not like they’ll avoid anything on those narrow ledges.XD

I wanted to revamp an old love of mine, which I used before crazy buffs:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNAseSjkOxwpQCPMxBEkCNkLOPSClYKUKsjNE-TsAA1CnI4SxljLDXSus1MsYZxsAA

If you like to play as a juggernaut, this build works for you.

If you want all those puny hambows to just cower in fear in front of all your mighty sword autoattacks, this build is for you. Yeah, don’t be fooled by those tiny numbers: with bleeding, first two strikes deal 1-1.5 k damage each. That’s pretty brutal for skills such as these.

If you’d rather go BRÜTAL, instead of simply brutal, you can go for might stacking (2 Hoelbrak, 2 Strength, 2 Fire), Use sigil of Battle instead of Fire and add For Great Justice! in place of Signet of Stamina. Moar bleedz, moar damage. I warn you, though, you’ll have a harder time reaching 20 stacks. But you luse on spike from sigil of fire, which can’t be nice.

If you don’t want to use cleansing Ire, this build is for you.

This is more similar to those old Hammer/sword build seen some time ago. Just tougher. Healing Signet can be swapped for healing surge, even if sometimes a spirit ranger deserves to be smashed into the ground without even denting your hp.

And then if you are just batkitten insane, here is what you need:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJARTjcOxwJPqQMxBAjifA68AKmaSfwOA-ToAg0CnICSpjTHTQycs5MsYZB

It’s beastly in teamfight, as long as don’t focus you, or on side roaming if the enemy is unaware.

Why is this insane? Because you are going full glass, no defense whatsoever. This would mean you go on full burst, but instead you play on sustained damage. Which is crazy damage (3k autoattack on softer opponents), but still you’ll need to stay in the heat of battle for long.

And 100 blades will be awesome to turn that blasted guardian who wanted to ress into sushi.XD

Mesmers are better. Just huge damage output, they go stealth, they kitten you up, they confuse the kitten out of you, they wreck you.

That in duels, maybe.

And… well, no matter how they do it, a Thrust that slow looks goofy.

Ok, it’s an iconic skill, but what about changing it into a brutal slash or something like that, just to make an animation that is both slow and cool?XD

Warriors with zerker amulet have more health and armor than most classes with soldiers amulet… There is problem number one lol. Add Healing signet+adrenalin health to that and yeah… High damage + high passive survival is a recipe for OPness. Lets add in direct damage immunities and conditions immunity just for the hell of it.

That is true with hammer warriors. One probable fix might be to just put Merciless Hammer somewhere else.

The problem is that a hammer warrior can go for Zerker Amulet for full damage, for he gets all the armor he needs from the defense traitline, which is needed for hammer.

If he had to go in -say- Strength, he would be much glassier.

That’s probably because warriors usually roll they face on the keyboard at an higher fequency than you.

I know that rolling the face on the keyboard faster might hurt, so I suggest you to try to roll your face from right to left instead of left to right.

I assure you that it will leave the warrior surprised and harmless because they still have no idea on how to deal with the arabian facerolling.

Right:

Then one of them jumps me right after a big battle at mid has ended, I’m at 50% health and my stability is off cooldown. I dodge out of range 1-2 times, Whirlwind out of another, but eventually the war gets me, and I’m toast.

If anybody ‘jumps you’ with 50% health and no cd’s there’s a good chance you’re going to drop.

Why are you not resetting after mid fights, and where is your team while you’re getting jumped after winning mid point? Also, how do you not see a hambow warrior coming, and why would you let him engage with no reset?

Sometimes it takes a while to get out of combat. And sometimes the team goes away, or I am looking at the minimap to see what’s going on.

And, well, I correct myself: this mostly happens during the fight, when I used stability for a stomp, and a warrior gets me. While the fight is still going on, it’s not that easy to see someone.

Ok, truth be told it happened to me only 2-3 time in my soloq experience, but was indeed annoying.

I’m not saying it’s not my fault, but I can understand people thinking this build is not forgiving enough, considering how tough it is.

Buff Final Thrust

Best game forum ever : )

The reason nick asking for buff final thrust is bc sword has nothing else but 11111111 spam till target get under 50% hp. Completely 0 pressure. Sup? Any noob gonna disagree with me or say swap weapon? My second weapon is ranged one which i will use while being kited, not when i am in melee range.

Im not sure if final thrust needs a buff, but i know that flurry does need a huge one for power build. Right now theres nothing to be worried about fighting against someone with sword as they cant do anything but smash 1

Well, in the mess of most battles many skills are gonna miss. Don’t worry about that.

I don’t know it the same happened to you, but people can walk out of final thrust, even while we are both moving. Before anyone says anything, I want you to know I’m okay with that. It makes landing it even more rewarding. And I’m happy if staying in melee is actually a challenge.

When I play zerker GS/LB war, I know how it feels:

I can defeat hambows 1v1, with all utilities off cooldown and stuff like that.

Then one of them jumps me right after a big battle at mid has ended, I’m at 50% health and my stability is off cooldown. I dodge out of range 1-2 times, Whirlwind out of another, but eventually the war gets me, and I’m toast. And the more I die like this, the more I get nervous and make mistakes.

(by building a tankier roamer, I became less prone to this, but not all classes can build such hybrids)

and with clearing conditions. Are these factors still true, or have they changed?

Cleansing Ire is a must for helping to clean conditions off you. Keeping conditions to a minimum with this trait is actually pretty easily done.

I’m starting to play without cleansing Ire. I’m using Signet of Stamina and Berserker Stance. It works, and now I can drop the Longbow.

(actually, I made a build that is even easier than hambow, but stronger, IMHO. I feel okay playing it only because it’s my build that I made from scratch.)
