Since thief is going to be the worst class in pvp now, I wonder how many thieves will reroll to the “noob slayer” warrior with the combo bull’s charge/bolas + fenzy + 100b.
I have seen several high ranking warrior rank 40+ using this “noob slayer” combo against another high ranking player and it actually works.
So, will this “noob slayer” build be popular and viable in pvp again ?
Yeah, go reroll and play one of the hardest pvp builds ever made.
because he doesn’t know it himself
I use it in spvp. I also use Bolas to help me kill people with 100 blades.
I can kill hambows with double stability in utility, but if they get my without them I’m dead.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Well, you might use it in spvp group fights and run in front of enemies to body block and make them hit you.
But then, you’d be less useful if you fight 1v1 on a side node.
because he doesn’t know it himself
I agree: I’m tired of being forced to mindlessly spam my hammer on the cannon. I constantly avoid hammer builds not to give a fair battle to my opponents, and then Skyhammer comes and makes me feel useless unless I use it.
It’s not about learning to adapt. It’s about narrowing down options.
Like… worsening the game in a particular map.

points per win is way to high for teamQ and they dont deserve this much more rankpoints for same time
1000 points per win force now every soloQ player who care bout rank to play teamQ and be canonfodder again for full team – ya know? the reason why you did soloQ
i dont wanna play in a team – dont force people to do so
Cannonfodder?
I doubt it. You don’t have Skyhammer in TeamQueue.
(that might be the most important reason why you should always join it)
And there are more pugs than you’d think.

It’s pretty hard to play actively when you can barely tell what’s going on in a fight with more than 3-4 people involved.

Dark Souls is an animation based game. Nothing will have more than 4-5 moves and last less than 0.5 second. Other than that, the most dangerous skills are also the most telegraphed.
I don’t know what this game is anymore.

Introduction
This guide is aimed at spvp veterans and a little more advanced players to learn about and discuss teamcompilations. I will explain the roles in spvp and how a good teamcomp looks. I would like to see a discussion about the “best” teamcompilations below
(I will write another absolutely basic/beginner guide, where I explain the map layouts and the terms like “bunker” etc. and another guide regarding tactics for each map. This thread is only aimed at teamcompilations).
Chapters
- 1. General Strategies regarding capturepoints
- 2. General Strategies regarding fights/damage
- 3. Roles in a team
1. GENERAL STRATEGIES REGARDING CAPTUREPOINTS
All the strategies for teamcompilations are based to effectively play on the 3-point-capture-system-maps (thanks captain obvious).
But actually think of it: You have 3 points (+ secondary objectives..) which give you points per second. So the team who has more points (nodes) over time wins the game. Simple as that.
All the teamcompilations come from different mindsets regarding the 3 point principle.1.1 Play safe on 2 points
“we just win the fights on 2 points”
This strategy usually involves 2 Bunkers. One on closepoint and one on the midpoint (usually). The last 3 players are Roamers. The idea behind this strategy is, that you have 2 ppl for each node, who defend it, while your damage dealers roam and you just win every fight.
If you manage to win teamfights well, this strategy proves very successful and is the most used strategy by teams in my opinion.
The whole teambuild should be based on teamfights. And you will only push far, after you won the fight for decapping it quickly and play safe on 2 points again.1.2 Play safe on 2 while annoying them on far
“We outnumber the enemy and win the fight due to our decapper”
You also play 2 bunkers (one watches mid, one close) but only 2 roamers for the teamfight. You have 1 class who is dedicated to decapping the opponents point
(NOT a thief who just leaves midfight to decap quickly).
This class is ususally a hardcore bunker and the opponent team has to send at least 2 people to their node (2v1) to get it capped. While you have a 1v2 on farpoint your team should win the midfight because you outnumber the enemy.1.3 Annoy them on far while winning fast
“We outnumber the enemy and win the fight due to our decapper”
Basically the same tactics as above. You just play without a dedicated closepoint defender. The idea is to play on 2 points, while the 3rd points ticks for your team. Meaning: Someone takes closepoint, you inc the midfight while your decapper holds them on far. If everything works out well, the enemy can’t really push your close (because they have to send 2 ppl to kill your decapper and then have problems in the midfight).1.4 Just win fast
“We just win the fights on 2 points”
You play only one midbunker, no dedicated closepoint defender and no dedicated decapper. You decap after you won the fights (or after somebody died, or your thief is low). You have 4 dmg roamers, move fast and win fights fast.1.5 Bunker them
“We just bunker everything”
There are teams out there who play with 4 or more bunkers (usually the 5th is a decapper which is also a bunkerish class.) The idea behind this is, that you inc every point. Keep them decapped and cap over time using knockbacks.
What about Legacy of the Foefire?
In solo queue I feel like most teams tend to rush mid too much. In those cases is pretty stupid to try to attack graveyard while 2 guardians are nested on it and your team has no bunkers.
In those cases, I think trying to push sides and keep thenì enemy busy on mid exploiting the tendency towards overrushing it a good idea. What do you think?
because he doesn’t know it himself
You need to get hit around 75 times in that 3s window to get close to what adrenal surge heals now. Assuming the tooltip I saw earlier is correct and each hit heals you for 125.
So I don’t think it is worth it and it is definitely not OP, and my god that cooldown.
Assuming this tooltip is correct
You’ll have to get hit 7 times to outheal surge. 8 to outheal signet.
because he doesn’t know it himself
If PvE people don’t go into pvp because it’s a waste of time and won’t reward them, then don’t be surprised this game will never become an e-sport.
because he doesn’t know it himself
No, it’s 1853 healing per hit.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Each time you are struck, you earn 1853/35 = 53 hps.
In order to equal signet, you have to be struck 392/53=7.44 times. That means Stance will be better than signet if you can manage to get struck 8 times during 3 seconds. Or 3.75. Might be doable, depending on the fight.
On one hand I’m not counting the fact you don’t start healing since the beginning of a fight. On the other hand, I’m not counting the gain from mitigating damage.
because he doesn’t know it himself
The people that hate skyhammer refuse to adapt their build . Bring CC and stability , I know you give up on some stuff but knocking people off the cliff is fun . Skyhammer is my favourite map and I don’t want it to be removed it from the game . I always win on skyhammer , 75% W\L ratio on that map , it’s where my build shines , a full CC warrior
I play a warrior.
I’ll NEVER play hambow or other OP cc builds. I like GS, and going in and out of melee. At least it’s a bit more complicated.
But on Skyhammer, that is pointless: one of my whirlwind might end my life.
I HAVE to play hammer. And NO. It’s not fun. Smashing people by playing a sequence of buttons is not funny. As it’s not getting knocked out by skills you can’t avoid. Or playing in spaces so narrow you can barely see what the hell is going on.
The whole map is a mess and pretty unfun. Wipe it out of the game.
And no, it’s not refusal to adapt, or hate towards new maps: I enjoy spirit watch, and temple of the silent storm is my favorite map.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Low rank players keeping on capping then leaving the cap resulting to a fail team work because they still realized that getting a Personal highscore means that they are the best. This is why I hate mixing low ranks to those high rank players.
But what if a roamer got it, who is not a bunker, and thinks he would be more useful elsewhere?
I’m asking, because I feel like I’m never sure about what is the best thing to do (I haven’t actually play many tournaments), and either way you risk.
For example, I was holding a point as a war roamer, I get attacked by hambow and a ranger. I manage to down the hambow, but the ranger gets me at less than half health, and I either get killed earning some time but giving 5 points or run away, failing to defend the point, because no one came to my help. In that kind of situations, I think one might think the best is to cap the point and then go somewhere else helping your teammates.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Lets be honest… there really aren’t any bad builds for the warrior right now. Some are less efficient but a player would have to get real creative to suck as a warrior.
Well, considering 60% of people in a match is composed by warrior, if you have a worse build than hambow you might endup being weaker than 50% of the people in the fight. Or 40-60% the enemy team.xD
because he doesn’t know it himself
hey, this is me female mind games.
If you know me chances are you either actually know me or you have a ginormous amount of hate towards me. I just wanna make this thread to say that Im addicted to guild wars pretty badly, and openly admit that. Im not new to getting trolled, or trolling others for that matter. But I just wanna make it clear that I do not at all run an OP mesmer build, contrary to very popular belief..
I understand hate towards mesmer because of clones and how much an advantage that aspect gives them. But if you think Im just a cheesy mesmer, let me explain what I have been running in all forms of pvp, for about 10 months now.
basic shatter build 20/20/0/0/30 main focus being to rupt skills for more damage, and plenty crit damage to go along with fury on phantasms and increased chance crit on mind wrack. I use GS, sword/pistol.
My utilities are Arcane Thievery, Blink, and Portal. I use Mass invis mostly, as my elite.
I wanna see some of you pro mesmers out there try running arcane thievery and then call me a cheesy mesmer, when 80% of mesmers are running decoy, veil, blink, and mass invis with buffs on stealth.
Im just tired of all the unconditional hate… can we please all just cool out? I wanna play at least 2 matches of hotjoin or tournies without someone hate mailing me. The only thing thats gonna happen is I send all your condis back to you in a 1v1, you die and get mad calling me a cheesy mesmer. Also, portaling out from a 3v1 to backcap is a good play, ask the best mesmer themself, Legend Supcutie.
Does anyone else use Arcane Thievery?
I’m sorry, but I SERIOUSLY don’t know you. And I never heard of someone complaining about mesmer, unless it’s duel server.
And even then… don’t worry: we hate you mesmers because you are cowardly pinky flashy ballerinas, nothing more.XD
If I hate you, it won’t be because of your build. I’ll hate you because of your class.XD
because he doesn’t know it himself
Use Bolas. Less cd, more control, more reliable.XD
because he doesn’t know it himself
(it’s doable with many bunkers, but those warrs also deal a lot of pressure).
Also the build has 1200 condition damage so not exactly a bunker.
Gotta love how that’s about the same as most rabid engi builds.
rabid engi with 1200 condi damage is hardly a bunker.
because he doesn’t know it himself
No, I actually didn’t mean to show a counter argument with that.
I have just always been curious about how the dummies work. Are they doing something doable in-game, or did Anet just beef up their damage to make up for the fact they don’t use healing skills?
I know you are not. I also wondered about how the thief dummy can do black powder, daze daze then unload unload.
Only explanation is the dummy runs x x x 30 15 build and switched to off-hand dual pistol to pull off that 20+ initiative combo.
Yeah, I always hated that thief.
She is the main reason why the whole forum hates them, and will always ask Anet to nerf them.XD
However, the problem with healing signet is that offers an unfair situation against dummies: in theory you shouldn’t be using healing skills, because they don’t.
But condi warrior is still a messy destroyer, I guess.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Just to be clear, I actually didn’t mean to show a counter argument with that. Outhealing unload on the spot might be a crazy thing (it’s doable with many bunkers, but those warrs also deal a lot of pressure).

Actually, there are some unbalanced things about duels, so it might get a little frustrating.
????
This is an MMO.
MMOs don’t care about anything short of constant extreme imbalances (4v5s, cheese-CC/condi spams, excx)
If you build a spec to duel in this game, it will be generally playable against other duel specs. This is the overall truth. You have to build for what you want to do. You can’t throw your 70 points wherever you like and grab a few utilities and expect to win. You can’t do that in tpvp neither. You have to know what you’re building for, and every class can 1v1 just fine:
Mesmers: Phants / PU / Shatter(shatter less than the others)
Necromancer: Condies / MM
Elementalist: Arcane Burst / Somewhat still effective is D/D 30w/30a
Warrior :
Guardian: Meditation DPS
Ranger: Spirits / BM
Engineer: Turrets / Hgh / Powerburst
Thief: Perma stealth / Sword+Dagger evade / OthersJust have to build for it.
You didn’t fill warrior, though. I’d probably bet on condi bunker or hammer tank for these.
Problem is that some things would be unfun in 1v1. Like stealth spamming, cc spamming, AI spam. Just like… take all the things people have complained about and make them mandatory.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Try it on guardian dummy.
That guy hits over 1300 with every non-crit auto attack. On a guy with 2700 armor. And has high armor himself. I don’t know how he can do this.

Actually once I join a Q I always take the match for fear of screwing over innocent people…unless there were a family emergency or something. Then of course I would leave.
Yes, but once you join the queue you can’t stop being in it without risk, even if you haven’t been picked for a match yet. That’s the scary thing
So this is working as intended? Pretty silly.
No, I hope.
because he doesn’t know it himself
arenanet could you just enable duels? 1v1 you know that kind of thing that many people like? this would help a lot in increasing the player skills in fights …i don’t think to be the only one that finds that thing missing…everyone loves duels (exept from the jump-guys they only like jumping puzzles)
Actually, there are some unbalanced things about duels, so it might get a little frustrating.

As for mesmers, mesmers have no way to reduce your heals via poison (which the majority of the professional thief community agrees is one of the, if not the best way to counter warriors). Furthermore, if you’ve ever played a mesmer, you have to realize that all of that DPS and condition damage is hardly possible unless the mesmer is running very high DPS gear, in which case you can probably take out the mesmer fairly quickly anyways. Y’all also have some very good condition removal/dampening.
From my experience, I have problems against PU heavy condi mesmer (the kind with high armor and high protection uptime) in spvp. That means I tried with a guild mate, and couldn’t kill him 1 on 1. No matter how hard I tried, if the field was open enough he could escape everything and I would have died after several minutes. But he couldn’t get me if I disengaged.
And when mesmers stealth, it’s not like you can predict where they are, because differently from thieves they don’t have to be in melee. And it’s pretty hard to dodge a ghost without the help of the summoning animation, IMHO.
Morale of the story: if you meet a guy built for 1v1, don’t bother with him and go away.
He shouldn’t even be able to contest a camp, for example. Just ignore him, stay away from him, kill the mobs one at a time and capture the camp (if it work like spvp, stealth should prevent him from getting it).
because he doesn’t know it himself
Example:
Make so that Barbarian’s Amulet has Power as a major stat, and not Vitality.

Comming from the guy that said this i’m taking it quite as a compliment
Don’t argue with mini its a waste of time
Lol anyone stupid enough to throw bolas before immobing someone first is asking to be dodged.
That’s your only hint
I rest my case.
I guess people who don’t know how game mechanics work think immob stacking is silly or something. I’d love to duel you I’m pretty sure you’d eat a couple 100B with GS/LB with Throw Bolas if you have enough armor to survive one…
Pin Down + Bolas would be dangerous even if highest immob duration overloaded the lowest one. With immob stacking in duration… well… let’s say I don’t like to land both consistently at the enemy, because otherwise I’d be OP.
However, Bolas can be landed efficiently without aid. You just need to be at low enough range to minimize its travel time.

By leaving the Q you screwed over 4 people and ruined their chance of wining, and dropping their rating as well. Of course they complain.
I think the guy means: He joined the queue, then BEFORE any “match is ready” window opened he chose to left the queue.
Then he gets AFK and, when he comes back, finds out the game made a place for him into a match. As if the system forgot he left the queue.
I hope that’s not true, because I’d be scared to join the queue if I can’t leave it without the risk of screwing someone up because the game thinks I still want to take part in a game.
because he doesn’t know it himself
there u go
a monkey could survive with that.
if something like this is possible in a game it sure is overpowered!
It has to be said they didn’t even try at first.
And about this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyKP31QtosM
I am a warrior myself, but I play with zero damage immunity, zero condi immunity (Only cleansing Ire, but I almost never use burst to get a +15% damage increase), zero stuns.
I can say I can send those guys to a clumsy death.
I’m not saying they are fine, but I want to share you my joy when I slice those kittens up.

“60% rating in solo queue.
94% in Team Queue.”checked how many players even play now?
60% rating in soloQ before reset is now something like 20-30% maby
and teamQ is even worse – your 90%+ will be now something like 40-50%
i did not the math but do it by yourself when wanna know
I meant BEFORE the reset.
Now in Solo queue I’m at 600
And seems like entering a team match takes longer than an invasion on Dark Souls. And that is a long, LONG time.XD
because he doesn’t know it himself
Maybe you are just not as good as you think you are?
I don’t know:
Before the reset, I was at 60% rating in solo queue.
And 94% in Team Queue.
I always joined both alone, so I got teamed with pugs.
In Team Queue I had better teammates and better enemies.
If I sucked, how that could be possibile?
One of the theories I ended up with is that fighting against better players makes you a better player, and fighting against worse players makes you a worse player. And this change is really quick. I think it has something to do with motivation and focus. You don’t have fun killing Heartseeker spamming thieves (even when you are at full health), so you get worse.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Well, I don’t think PU mesmers have problem against warrs. But the fight ends up in a draw.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Well, I actually got teamed with better people now than before patch. Don’t know how this is possible, but everyone was communicating, and I was almost always the lowest rank in the match (rank 29).
because he doesn’t know it himself
Well, there is also a difference between “actually trying” and “making always the right decision”.
There is always the moment during the fight that you ask yourself “Should I stay and fight or should I go and check that contested point?”, “Should I hold the point or attack treb?”. Both actions make sense, but what is the best? I feel sometimes you don’t know for sure, and you have to take your chances (for example, you might go and attack trebber and then die or run away losing time because another enemy respawned and turned the fight into a 2v1, or attacks you at half health when you killed the trebber… you should have stayed at mid, then, but how could you know? And maybe you would have died from treb there).
My suggestion about Soloqueue… when you lose, stop playing for a while. I don’t know why, but it seems like stuff comes in a streak. I win many in a row, then lose many in a row.
because he doesn’t know it himself
So like this
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJARTjkOxwtOGPMxBEkCNsKMK+BgQ9YOsj4A-ToAg0CnIMSZkzIjRSjsGNsYZB
Well, yeah, it’s more efficient, but adding Berserker’s Power adds a little risk/reward factor: you can hold your bursts and don’t cleanse conditions to get a great damage increase. You are rewarded for not holding on your cleanses.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Wait, that is the build I posted.

Hey Ash,
I’m waiting on WildStar (I’ll give it a 2-3 month test run before committing, not making the same mistake I did with GW2).
As of late I’ve been playing BF4 on PC. Considering streaming again but I’ve been lazy on that front.
As long as there will be room for experimenting, I’m still playing.
Will you consider coming back, if the game will get better pvp wise?
I’m trying this, for the record. It’s not a longbow build, but it complements it really well. And I used the expertise gathered by defektive about how to build for greatsword.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJARTjkOxwtOGPMxBEkCNsKMP+BgoIUKmD7A-ToAg0CnIMSZkzIjRSjsGNsYZB
I think the game has good mechanics and that’s what I loved about GW2. But I’m not a believer in the development team so the long term outlook of the game is the primary reason I left. I’m only willing to play again if there was a management shakeup of some kind.
My only question is Bolas? Did they fix the Z axis pathing?
I don’t know, but the succes rate increases dramatically if you can get a clear shot at point blank range. Very effective with 100 blades, without having to build around stun sacrificing out of burst damage.
Well, they are doing something. For example, solo queue seems better now than before. I joined communicative teams, fighting against good enemies. Before patch I barely did soloqueue because of how awful it was.
Ya but for me I never cared for SoloQ, always been a team-player (hence why I play BF4 now and my past playing Wolfenstein: ET etc.)
So the lack of development changes to capitalize on teamwork and thoughtful skill play makes me a sad defektive.I’m not a fan of 30pts in strength, don’t know if it’s worth while.
You could do 10/0/20/0/30
Grab 10% GS damage, then burst mastery to make longbow F1 more consistent since you don’t have to manage adren as much
10% GS damage is in strength.
Unless you meant LB. Then it might be a good idea.^^

You are looking at it the wrong way. Torment is not punishing you for moving, it is rewarding you for standing still. The decision is on you to understand when taking advantage of it is actually going to be “advantageous”.
Like hambow war rewards you for playing pve
because he doesn’t know it himself
dont you think it sounds a little bit silly that the warrior has to be upclose just to use these ranged utility skills in fear of them missing (which they most likely will since bola can hit anything in its path first)?
You will never be that far from the enemy to use those skills at max range.
What I say is: use Rush to clear most of the distance. Then throw bolas.
because he doesn’t know it himself
I feel that the main reason why great sword feels clunky is that ultimately, you end up using physical skills with them which in turn makes the sword feel clunky.
I think it’s a pretty simple fix, too:
1. make the physical skills like bola and bull charge INSTSANT CAST. I don’t even know why bola has a cast time considering it also has to travel to the target (not to mention short range) in order to hit. On top of that, it can be blocked, line of sighted, over terrible. If it hits, high reward, misses, its cooldown worthless.
Please make it more consistent with lower reward.
2. don’t make the physical skills go on a 3 second cooldown when used while facing the other way.
In other mmo’s, they wouldn’t even cast a spell like this unless you’re facing the target.
In GW2, if you cast the spell while you’re facing away from the target, for instance, it puts your skill on a 3 second cooldown (which is valuable in a pvp setting). this is unneceessarily long considering how fast line of sight changes in pvp.
Please make it ~1.5 second instead.
No, please. Don’t make it that easy. It’s the only “hard” thing about GS. I’m a theorycrafter, I like warrior because there are so many different things that you can do. Don’t make it the “noob class”, a class that is supposed to be easier.
Bro Tip: try to use your physical utilities when you already are very close to the enemy. They will barely notice Bolas (which will have a much smaller chance to fail) and won’t be able to avoid Bull’s Charge.
because he doesn’t know it himself
I don’t follow your logic. How does the Healing Signet keep warriors from getting kited? My suggestion is to change the signet to heal when you deal damage.
He meant that before buffs warriors were severely outsustained by most builds. That’s one reason why warrs were so easy to beat.
That meant you could get an enormous advantage by draining out the fight.
That was more of a WvWvW problem, IMHO, because in tPvP kiting is useless. But if Anet wants to add deathmatch, such things can’t happen.
That doesn’t necessarily mean signet is fine as it is, though. I’d actually like it to be like the old healing signet:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Healing_Signet
Enormous heal for a pretty low cooldown, damage suffered increased while casting. A skill that is OP when your strategy is better than the enemy one, utterly crappy when the opposit happens.

The fact that she is the most talked about villain in Guild Wars 2 yet means improvement for the writers.
It’s not that hard to make a talked about villain.
You just need to make a kitten character. Or someone who does incredibly cruel things without no reason.
Or… well, just make a REALLY dumb villain. Then people will talk about it. Talked about is not an improvement.
Unless they actually want to do a story that is like a Z-Movie. That might be fun, but then the writers are off-target.

This tower, it was just bad.
You designed the tower for zergs with bad scaling, so now we have a situation like we have now. Towers are practically empty and people try to run through the third level (because for some reason you decided not to put a travel golem at the end).
What makes it worse is you have these events which are close to impossible to do with the amount of people who actually want to do it still.
Today I decided to give it another try, and it just a very frustrating thing to do. The mines everywhere, scaled enemies everywhere, lack of movement because you’re afraid to agro another mob, the few players that are actually still attempting to do it leaving on another for dead, these events that are frustrating to complete.
At this point the only reason I’d still want to do this event is for my alt, and it is close to impossible to get him past the first room of level 3.
You guys need to realize you can’t just do one or the other. You can’t design it for small groups because zergs will destroy it. You can’t design it for zergs because once everyone gets the meta it becomes dead.
Having a good scaling system is the only way anything will work in the open world.
Actually mines are more dangerous while going in groups: when you run alone, you get some sort of timing and don’t end on mines.
In groups, people in front of you trigger the mines, putting you off target. And one mine is enough to launch you into another mine.
