They should add 2 options when you queue:
1)fast queue – limited matchmaking, priority on time
2)slow queue -superior matchmaking but taking a bit longer
This way people can decide if they want to wait longer for a better matchup or play as soon as possible.

It’s a very stupid idea. A lot of people just play the class for achievement without knowing how to play it. Yesterday I got like at least 5 necros per match. Today mesmers.
At least fix profession stacking. Mesmers don’t stack well with each other compared to engis, eles, hell even wars..

Can confirm this happens a lot. When I go with 2-3 friends we win by like 500-50 or some kittened score like that. When I go alone I get rolfstomped by premades.

Even when I go with friends the pugs we get are bad. I don’t say I’m good or anything but I just had a match where the guardian was afking a node whole match(yet somehow dying as dps guard vs thief from time to time) and even more recently I had a thief who followed me around the map. Literally. He freecapped with me every single node.

“Just go ranked if you want competitive gameplay”. No. Ranked is where the turret engis, venomshare thieves, greatsword warriors dwell. So that’t not a solution really.

Incendiary powder is strong because in pvp people cleanse. In pve mobs don’t cleanse and the burn from bomb is more than enough. Traited fear is literally useless in pve too. I never said IP and offhand shield are related in any way despite the fact I mentioned both in the same sentence.
Taking short fuse is way better.
Oh and modified ammunition and precise sights are more for berserker builds.

Engineer is better in spvp.
In pve 1 war is better than 1 engi but since there is never a shortage of warriors..and neither class benefiting from multiples it’s a hard call.

Leveling with condi is slower than with power. Grenades aren’t as good as bombs because you won’t have grenadier.
You won’t need incendiary powder and shield offhand is better cuz of the blast finisher.
Basically 99% of what vee wee said doesn’t apply to pve at all.

Mesmer is very easy. Just after they stealth, wait a bit like 1s then cnd on a clone. Their stealths are all 3s except elite which is 5s but they won’t burn it at start usually. So you can use this to stay in stealth longer than them. Then it’s a matter of being in their face constantly by gap closing with sword2 and other teleports.
Ranger signet is annoying but it’s a huge cd wasted. Just wait it out. Abuse los. If you get behind them or just in melee their longbow goes to thrash dps-wise. Keep in mind rapid fire tracks through stealth. Use cnd on their pet as the ranger itself might dodge/avoid it.
D/p thief is problematic though. They deal way more damage than you.

Yes they should keep the pet names tied to slots. So if you replace your brown bear with black bear it’s still called Tanky McSnuggles or whatever. Way better than the current system.
A way to bypass this partially is to name your underwater pets if you use amphibious types.

Blowtorch range and damage are perfectly fine. The only problem they have is the skill sometimes bugs out and doesn’t connect if your target simply strafes a bit. That’s sad. But a landed blowtorch is simply devastating.

It’s very easy. In PvP most eles run very defensive setups. They go 00266 or 02066 with either d/d or staff. They run cantrips and they trait them for condi removal, regen, vigor etc. They are defensive in nature, although you can use lightning flash offensively for some nice combos. You do this because elementalist is a glassy class. Low hp, low armor, limited damage mitigation. Of course celestial pushes things over the top in both dps and sustain but that’s another story!
The exception to that is fresh air scepter/focus in pvp. It’s for crazy burst but at a big sacrifice in defense/sustain. It can push from hero to zero a lot of classes and it’s very hard to actively avoid except killing said ele.

Now in PvE you go full glass max deeps big numbers with scepter/x lightning hammer, staff fire camping(except some swiftness blasting and whatnot) or a more conservative take with dagger/focus. d/f gives superior defensive skills for harder content. Utility is never cantrips. It’s a combo of arcane wave, fire signet, lightning hammer, icebow and maybe arcane shield if you feel the need for some extra defense.

Staff in PvP - Need a few tips

That build is not good. You go very deep in fire for like 2 extra seconds of lava font. Arcane mastery and the 10% damage trait are bad too.
Basically a good staff ele is 00266. Kinda similar to d/d but you take earth’s embrace instead of the aura thingy. In last line you can go either blasting staff or the vigor trait. Blasting staff is better obviously but if you feel you need vigor then go for that.
I would go with hoelbrak instead of strength but they both fine. Utility is usually lightning flash, armor of earth and 3rd is choice between cleansing fire, mist form etc.
Cleansing fire is very strong so I suggest that.

1)Ranger. Staff ele is kinda clunky so it’s annoying to deal with rangers but you should be able to line of sight/reflect/dodge twice their rapid fire. Remember it’s about capping nodes not winning 1v1s.

2)Thief. They can’t really melee you if you spam lava fonts and other aoes at your feet. They will steal your stability so don’t waste it on them. They can pewpew you with shortbow but just like ranger that’s a waste of time for them. You basically have the node ticking for you. In team fights(which you should do as staff) your group should peel the bursts like mesmer,thief,longbow ranger etc. for you. If they let them freecast it’s not your fault.

3)Mesmer. Same as the other 2. Just don’t eat shatter too much. Dodge mirror blade, gs phantasm and the shatter. Then they have no dps for like 10s, time in which you can heal or counter-pressure. Mesmers can’t stalemate unless they run some stupid crap like PU. That’s a bad build and it’s only good to troll 1v1 but even there it lacks because they get decapped.

Oh and having high score doesn’t mean kitten.

You can’t really decap without a rifle. At least not as reliable/effective.
p/p builds are very strong dps-wise but lack survivability. Landing a perfect blowtorch is devastating. Sadly it bugs out a lot.
I prefer 60044 with p/p. You sacrifice some damage but power wrench is too good of a trait to pass up, especially without having a shield.
The stunbreak utility is personal choice really. Elixir gun, elixir s, slickshoes..all valid options. So is the 2nd sigil(geomancy is mandatory). Leeching, doom, energy, even hydromancy.

The issue with Engis is that they can spam condis with little to no real effort along w the ridiculous amount of Cc. You do not need to spec in turrets to hand turret drop elite which puts almost every turret down at once. Net still nets, burn still burns regardless if they are specced or not. If their main source of power is positioning and cc then make it so, treat their pistol similar to ranger SB in the sense that they need to flank in order to optimize. Right now there is little effort needed to run engi. I literally grabbed a meta build and wrecked havoc for hours in pvp with only pve knowledge of the class..

Also nobody is using pistol auto to stack bleeds since it’s so bad it’s not even funny. At best you use it on running targets you can’t hit reliably with grenades.

Much the same way that ham bow is a pick up build that has reached meta status, so has the condi engi. And exactly the point that makes it meta is what all the engis in the forum get angry about (much to my delight!) that it easy a build ANYONE can pick up and use w minimal effort. At least Ham/Bow is destroyed by any sort of blind output or proper dodges. Of course those who benefit from the current state of it are gonna defend it like everybody else’s opinion is void. But I suppose that is the nature of such forums.

Hambow is shut down by blinds. Engi is shut down by cc and conditions. So what? You can say every class is easy to play with dumb arguments like those you present. Also supply crate drops net, flame, heal turrets. Not “almost every turret”.

Ok you have no idea how engineer works but like to randomly say things. Imma explain to you no problem. There are 6 turrets: net,flame,heal,rocket,thumper,rifle. Would you say 3/6 is “almost” 6/6?
What class you play? Lemme guess. You play special snowflake builds! You sir are no sheep to blindly follow meta. You play subpar builds that are as silly as the resident hipster with his wool scarf and hannah montana tshirt combo.

As for others crying that the tourney was won by 2engi2ele. It’s very simple! The best players in the game main those classes! Their comp would probably fare better with a necro but they just didn’t have a necro main to use. The games were pretty close so arguably TCG could have won. And they ran mesmer which is in a bad place right now. So is bunker guard to a lesser extent. Yet because the players were good it helped them stay competitive. It’s common sense really.
Oh and NA ran 4 celestial. EU ran 3 celestial. Big difference indeed.

Weakness is quite useful in pve. Fractals benefit a lot from it actually. You can’t dodge every tharsh mob auto can you? Although it kinda fell out of favor, using a hammer guardian and some skale venoms is a great way to make fractals a whole lot easier.

For pvp weakness is a powerful condition. That’s why it’s so scarce compared to poison, bleed etc. It hurts both the offense and the defense of the enemy. It’s also a great cover condi to ensure the strong damaging burns and bleeds stick after a cleanse.

Relying on a condition for defense. Ever heard of blind? Amazing defense! Way better than weakness, at least in the short run.

Cele is fine becuz other classes are not that much benefited from using cele as much as ele or engi’s benefits. Just nerf ele(overall), engi(overall), mes(pu and condi) is fine. I felt there is no way to beat them in 1vs1. the only reason why mesmer isnt used in tourney is that capture point become neutral while fighting cuz mes’s stealth. but those 3 are op in dueling anyway.

Hello. Just fyi, it costs around 2g to get to level 10 via cooking. If it takes you 1h to level normally that is a huge waste of time/gold. You basically save 2g/h and if I recall correctly the average profit from farm/dungeon/whatever is 6-7g/h. So yea, it’s a huge waste to do normally when you can just farm the gold and use that to keyfarm.
Personally, I use tomes of knowledge.

Also if you force trinity it reduces variety greatly. Currently 7/8 classes have a good place in pve. Imagine trinity. There will be a best dps class, a best tank and a best healer. That’s 3 classes meta, all pigeon holed in very specific builds.

I played today always sacrificing the wurm on start on match. It is the current best patch over the broken mechanic.

I dont know if i would recommend it on power builds, ezpecialy any non 2x stunbreak.

Also, if it was the same as conquest(as somebody here very smartly concluded because losing first team fight is lost match lol) then why conquest games tend to end on a close score like 500-400 or whatever and courtyard is always 500-100 at best? (current broken mmr/elo not relevant)
Spawncamping combined with forced base leaves creates a perpetual outnumber fight because of the different respawn times. Assuming 2 equal( or almost equal) skill level teams, the first 5v5 win(and obviously enemy is full wipe) decides the game. It becomes a farm after that unless the other team gets greedy/yolo.

Again, as it is common on these forums. Zero comprehension, pure casualism. GG anet. Please your gem buyers more.
Edit: Since anet pvp guys say it is a fine map and good. Can you guys include it in the WTS rotation? I mean there should be no problem having skyhammer and courtyard at WTS because they are all competitively balanced and amazing maps.

Funny but the real problem is the lack of geodes from the track itself. You get way more fossils than geodes required to make the weapons. It creates a staggering progress. Kinda like courtyard in a way.

A different game mode requires a different queue. The game is balanced around conquest. The builds used are designed for that.
Nobody ever said courtyard is fine for serious gameplay except casuals. Can you please stop balancing competitive stuff around them?

What I have been told as a best solo setup on r/ by Nike:

“64040 rampagers armor, givers weapons and assassins earrings and berserker rings, amulet and backpiece. Runes of the Aristocracy, Sigil of Strength, Sigil of Force/Night/Slaying to taste”.

He told me that NoTrigger was testing different builds. I have no idea how it end up.

When I solo, I use the normal zerker setup.

Ok I get it. You don’t care about pve and hence instead of actual content like dungeons we get open world casualism and npc drama.
I understand you don’t care about wvw because siege disablers lol, perplexity d/p thieves and other amazing things like people who waste supply to troll etc.

I thought you cared about pvp though. Esports and all that. But:
1)Maps. Skyhammer?? Spirit watch?? Courtyard?? Those belong in soloq also known as yoloq for obvious reasons. They are horribly unbalanced and broken hence it was a smart thing to keep them away from the real pvp that is supposed to be teamq. Well not anymore. Courtyard is the worst offender obviously since you rolfstomp the enemy team. They can’t even afk because dishonor so basically they have to stay there for 15min and die over and over. Not frustrating at all!

2)No more doing anything else while you wait for your queue to pop. No more 1vs1 on private servers or hotjoin, no more map completion or whatever else. Just staying in the mists and map chat. Amazing! Thank god with bank you can cosplay a bit at least.

3)Profession specific matchmaking. Another great feature. Because there is no class synergy at all so as long as all the classes are different it’s a balanced matchup. Indeed! That’s not even considering that a profession has multiple builds which function very differently.

4)Premades vs soloers. Your algorithm doesn’t work. It still matches people badly. Which works very well with the previous point and you go against a real organized comp with your random group of 1 engi(turret) 1 war(axebow) 1 necro(zerker axe) 1 ranger(pewpew longbow). Enjoy getting thrashed.

5)No reroll. In the above scenario, previously you could just fine-tune your comp a bit to stand a fighting chance. Well not anymore. I understand you don’t want people to abuse the reroll and also for profession specific ranking/mmr/elo/whataever. At least allow people to reroll as long as it doesn’t result in 2 of the same profession.

*)Bonus point. You did a lot of these things to prevent 4vs5. They still happen. What’s worse? Some occur because of the major lag issues experienced by people who also happen to have perfect ping everywhere else. So it’s your fault yet you dishonor people for it.

Welp I guess you might as well add a scarlet invasion halfway through a pvp match at this point.
Small idea! Keep all this bullkitten in unraked arenas where people go to just have fun and get ranked arena properly balanced.

Hello OP. There is almost 0 comprehension about how pve dungeons work in this thread so imma shed some light on the whole thing.

First of all. Not taking precise sights is ultimate noob. Vulnerability is the major selling point of engineer in organized dungeons. Even if your dps is quite high, as an engineer you have no place in any party without precise sights. It is simply too good and there is no other trait to take instead anyway.

Some lesser skilled/knowledgeable individuals might say that you cap vuln on thrash without the trait. It is true. However the most important part of a dungeon run besides running around fast is killing bosses fast. Bosses have Unshakable which cuts your vuln in half. You simply require the trait for the boss fights.

Secondly, sigils and runes. You want scholar runes. Strength are a viable alternative but quite worse since your might stacking is lacking compared to an elementalist. Strength/battle sigils are generally not good in team fights. You want force+x most of the time. X being obviously night/slaying/frailty. You can take force+battle for day dungeons if you don’t feel like investing in yet another weapon instead of frailty, but it becomes useless in a decent party. In CoE for example night+undead are closer to ideal but you are cluttering the inventory at this point.

Third. Sin vs Zerk. The difference is quite small but try to sneak a few sin pieces here and there since it benefits the vuln generation and adds a bit of bleed damage.

Fourth. Other traits. Rifle mod vs hair trigger depends on the duration of the fight. So does short fuse vs exploside powder. The longer the fight is the more you benefit from cooldown reduction and the shorter it is the more you benefit from increased damage. Keep in mind that cooldown reduction favors better rotations while the damage increase is just a flat increase. Shrapnel vs empowering adrenaline. Same thing. Shrapnel shines in longer fights.

The dishonor system is a very bad idea! Especially if it activates on disconnects! Like half of EU has severe lag issues right now with huge lag spikes and disconnects all over the place.
The even dumber thing?
