I do not know what NovaStiker runs in PvP but it doesn’t seem that good.
Especially since he runs d/d cele in dungeons! And considers engineers(3rd dps from top or so) “condi spamgineers or a gimmick spike with a long cooldown”. What does this tell us? Serious lack of comprehension regarding both the main class but also other classes!

I was in tPvP the other day with a support engi that had a bomb heal build and was about support and survivability. I stood next to him and spammed condition on all the things and he kept me alive and pushed enemies back out of melee range (still in grenade range though). It was pretty awesome as I’d never seen a build like that before. I may have to try that at some point although it’s not really my play style.
Grenades are 1500 range traited. It’s kinda hard not to be in range for them.

What class are you struggling on to fight against the dreadful 66666 engi with turret rabid celestial battle doom geomancy intelligence bomb nade toolkit slickshoes elixir gun?
1) Turret engi in your team afks a node whole match. Gets outrotated, 4vs5 etc.
2)Turret engi in enemy team. Your team is dumb and dies 2vs1 against turret repeatedly. Reasons include “but close/mid is important to cap!”, “it is too op i can’t fight it!” etc. (i.e. your team is horrible and despite your team chat spam with “just ignore it can’t move” is ineffective!)
3)They supply crate if you engage 1vs1. Not a real reason but it’s like super lame, right? I got supply crated by 2 turret engis at the same time. I was alone. They have no shame!
Yes nerfing a whole boon for 2-3 builds that abuse it seems a great idea(??!!). It’s obvious rune/sigil nerf is better.
Adding 10s icd with 6s duration for vigor will pretty much ruin the survivability that is already lacking in other ele builds.
The burn and sustain has to go. The rest is fine.

Quick note on twig’s post: Sigil of Energy is nearly useless as you have no weapon swap (it will proc on elixir s). On hit or always on sigils would be a better choice.
Either you have never played an Engi, or you have not played nearly enough, because this is the first time I see someone saying Sigil of Energy is nearly useless.
On-swap sigils worked for our kits since ages ago, we are like the best class to utilize them.
^^ They are by far best utlised by engi as Blitz said since we have pretty much zero cooldown on kits and are constantly swapping between then. This is why sigil of battle + sigil of energy + sigil of hydromacy is so good on engineer

Why does it matter if its gemstore? Just use gold and convert it to gems. The drama about gemstore is so unfunded. What difference does it make if you have to gather a bunch of materials that end up costing a comparable price to the gold to gem thing?

Also most gemstore backpieces are actually tradable via TP with some very low prices like a few golds.
6/6/0/0/2 rifle with empowering adrenaline, explosive powder, grenadier, precise sights, rifle mod, modified ammunition, static discharge using grenades, elixir gun and flamethrower is the most dps you can achieve.
That being said, if the fight is longer you can replace empowering adrenaline with shrapnel, explosive powder with short fuse and rifle mod with hair trigger.
Furthermore, replacing flamethrower with bomb will give you more support because of the superior might stacking and the smoke field it provides which blinds and can be used to stealth. Replacing rifle with p/s gives you an extra blast finisher, reflect and block but it is a considerable dps loss.
Any other advice in this thread is pretty bad. Robert out.
I think Sinister stats would be best for PvE if you’re after the ultimate balance between condi and power, right? I run celestial for all modes though.
I’m more a PvP player than PvE, where survivability matters much more, but Celestial works fine in PvE. Especially some of the new open world stuff where being able to juggle lots of mobs at once is quite handy.
Just don’t expect the epic dps of a “meta” full ’zerker build.

Celestial is pure kitten for pve. Sinister might be better depending on how many guards/eles you have in party. Unless you that guy who promised to show a vid of him facetanking grawl shaman at 49 with celestial engi. Sadly the video never came to be. Reasons unknown.

I don’t usually(ever) agree with this guy cuz lol traited bombs no precise sights dungeon build and other stuff..BUT he makes a fair point!
All buff no nerf is power creep! Nerfs remove stuff from meta/viability but balancing by buffs is never a good idea! Sooner or later you get so much over the top it gets gamebreaking.
The game needs shavings and slight buffs but given the tactic anet employs it goes like “x is popular nerf, y is unpopular buff” which is worse than any of the other choices. Balance should be done around risk/reward not popularity contests.
I ask because it seems like she has chased a lot of stuff like this down. Honestly, getting Gaile to look into this seems like our best bet of getting a reply.

There has been actually a tool implemented in the game for this very problem. It’s still in the beta though.
Basically if you can’t loot the chests you see on the minimap it means you already did that path.
It is an attack that does damage, so should apply revealed in the same way traps apply revealed to ranger with runes of the trapper. Could be on first bleed tick for example, or if that is too difficult to implement, then just add a small physical damage component to caltrops and apply revealed that way.
Ranger traps deal direct damage.
Choking gas now reaveals thief cuz it does a bit of direct damage too. It didn’t in the past so it didn’t reveal.
As for OP. Be glad. You survive more time against condi thief than zerker thief who can pretty much explode mesmers.
This is why gearcheck exists and why “5k ap” bads also exist. Lack of comprehension.

The meta build is decided on maximizing both personal and team dps. It has math as arguments. “ouch my pinkie hurts pressing 1” and “i wanna roleplay as bombmeister cuz i am special snowflake” are not considered valid reasons.

2. doesn’t matter. I tend to favour engi/necro/ranger though after 1-2 eles are covered. I also try to avoid warrior/guardian/thief. too much faceroll in this game.

Just so you know, the Thaumanova fractal is duo-able and frankly even solo-able (latter would involve a mesmer or thief).
How do you do the switch room with the reflecting shields?

Dps+utility is the only thing that matters in pve. Except the support isn’t heal.
Unless you want to tag stuff and then flamethrower is superior to bombs.
Throw mine and thumper are bad. They both launch mobs away/proc defiance and have too long cooldowns compared to flamethrower/elixir gun.
Runes, traits etc. are a big mess.

Capes are a huge priority despite a lot of clipping issues with currently existing armor. Charr tears so many they could drown other races and still have enough to spare for a new jade sea. Sea of clashing sorrows.

For celestial hoelbrak is probably a valid choice for larger scale fights. For roaming strength may get you further.
Keep in mind outside of needing ascended armor to slot agony resist or if you plan on pure minmax with infusions it’s a huge waste of gold. Trinkets and to a lesser extent weapons are easier/cheaper to come by. The stat benefit from armor is basically none. Also ascended weapons benefit direct damage the most meaning you might want to just get the trinkets ascended and keep the rest exotic.
As for sigils you can’t go wrong with battle/energy for hybrid(which celestial is). Replace energy with stacking sigil of your choice if you feel it’s better.
I lol’ed. Engineer is really strong in PvP atm. If anything Anet should focus on traits and utility skills that are never used and try to make them more viable.
You are so right! Their tactic to keep buffing unique and special builds(venomshare, turret, condition guardian) is a very healthy step towards a balanaced meta!
Also it doesn’t really feel like an MMO with just 5vs5 in PvP.

Dungeon solo meta wasn’t rampager it was rabid. So yes, this new stat combo is obviously superior to rabid.
The rune choice was not hoelbrak/strength either. It was aristocracy.
A bit fuzzy on the details about sigils but I think it was corruption and bursting.
If napalm specialist isn’t bugged then 66020 is meta. Otherwise 64040 with blood injection.

Don’t be a turret noob. Even worse, don’t be a fortified turret noob.
Just dodge/block/line of sight or whatever the rapid fire while closing the distance. Once in melee spam skills and watch them melt.
Bonus points if you proc their shared anguish with magnet so you can cc with rifle. Dodge pet f2 if you can but it’s not a huge deal. The wolf fear is problematic though so avoid eating it.
Letting a ranger freecast is silly so if you do that you can’t complain about their dps.

We all know the class is pretty much out of the meta right now because celestial lacks pressure and condition lacks sustain.
Proposed changes:
Backpack regenerator heal increased by 30% and added heal and 1 condi remove on kit swap(10s icd).
Prybar inflicts 3s fear because it’s hard to land as it is.
Exploit weakness trait is useless right now. Rename it “tormenting powder” which works exactly like incendiary but with torment(5stacks only).
Jump shot is now 3s knockdown on the landing part.
Flash grenade also applies confusion(5 stacks only).
Box of nails should apply 1s reveal. Also removes 1 boon per pulse with first priority on stability.
Magnet fails a lot. Renamed “electromagnetic instability”. It’s now a 1/2s cast time teleport(interruptable). Only 1200 range to keep things balanced.
Net shot and glue shot apply 50% more immobilize.
Poison dart volley misses quite a lot too. Make it 360 degrees spin shooting bolts of poison. Whirl finisher.
Transmute now aditionally gives 5s of stability when inflicted with a damaging condition. Same icd and everything.
