Everyone who thinks PvE is easy should really just do an “easy” CM run with four people who have never been there before.
It can be any other dungeon anyway, the point is, while open world PvE is total kiddo stuff, dungeons can fail easily if you don’t have certain “support” for encounters. But whatever, there will be a thread asking for a solution to the zerker meta tomorrow too.
Can you people make up your minds please?
For 2 years straight – no matter what anet did – it was always: “we want an expansion, the game needs an expansion. no monthly, bi-weekly updates, we need expansions”.
Now that they are working on an expansion you want the bi-weeklies back?
I have never had a problem with the bi-weekly system, i log in every day anyhow but this post is hilarious (or sad) if you remember all the calls for an expansion.
Ask Michael Bay to direct it and Mordy would have no chance.
There is no need for it for even level 50 fractals, since you can use the crafted infusions to reach the required AR. Therefore it is quite optional.
.Make up your kitten minds.
Either it’s needed for something or it isn’t. And if it isn’t needed, then there’s no reason for it to give better stats than exotic, much less exist, so the equipment gap may as well be closed.
I thought it was clear that it is not needed for any content, because there is another option even for reaching 70AR using crafted infusions in rings and backpacks. Maybe it was not clear enough.
And just because i would never make a legendary greatsword – so from my point of view it is unnecessary, it does not mean there is no reason for it to exist.
You can drive perfectly fine everywhere with a Ford but some people want a Ferrari.
But just in case the gap will be closed, i’ll be happy to take the gold refund from Anet for all the gear i crafted.
ANet designed ascended gear to be laborious to obtain; they also put it in a game that was calibrated for exotics, so there’s no particular need in PvE to have ascended unless you do lots of high-level fractals, speed clears for records, or guild-v-guild.
So there’s no need for it…unless there’s a need for it.
Sounds like there’s a need for it to me, then. Also sounds like it isn’t optional, then, since a need does exist.
There is no need for it for even level 50 fractals, since you can use the crafted infusions to reach the required AR. Therefore it is quite optional.
As for speed clears… the speed clearers are not here complaining, they have either made their sets already or are using exotics specifically tailored to a certain dungeon. Guild v. guild? Not needed.
What people are saying is that you don’t need Ascended to do any of the content in the game outside of upper level fractals and even that is all about the Agony resistance and not the stat differences.
And that’s a nonargument. It’s not about what people need, because they don’t need to play the game. It’s about what the people want.
Exactly… It’s about what people want. So you WANT ascended armor… not need it, so go and craft it.
Due to the nature of wvw, the difference is quite negligible really. (even in 1v1s, it’s rare that you fight a really balanced 1v1 in which the small difference could be of importance)
Battles in which both participants are downed at the same time happen all the time in PvP when a 1v1 ends up happening. I can’t imagine that WvW is much different in that regard. A tiny bit of extra survivability is all that one participant would need to remain standing and finish/heal for a decisive win instead of engaging in a downed state war.
Enemies hanging on by a silver of health after a burst is also a common thing. Same deal here. Even just the base damage increase would mean an extra 5% has the potential to make a difference, and in an extremely common scenario, with the 13% damage increase that you get if you factor in the bonus stats from a full set of ascended gear and food buffs, the dps guardians that get instantly reduced to around 1.5k hp, then activate shelter-contemplation on purity-Judge’s Intervention-Virtue of Resolve to heal back up would instead be instantly downed unless they also had ascended armor.
Those things were exactly what i was talking about, that they do not happen that often in wvw, where you could have the “applied” buffs, food, borderland bloodlust, etc… while the other one has none. Your sigils could proc while his do not. Ascended armor won’t make a visible difference at all.
In ZvZ battles it does not count for reasons others have already explained.
Also, why the heck would you not try your build ideas with exotic armor? Do you really believe that a build’s viability depends on the 5% stat increase of ascended over exotic? Can’t you see if the build is viable by using exotics?
“Mesmer” and “overpowered” in one sentence. For PvE, I think not… Blurred Frenzy would be the most used skill, while Portal would be the most characteristic.
well what other game mode do you think this thread could be about, when it’s stuck in to the fractals and dungeons forum?
Mesmer has no skills that would be considered triviallizing an encounter, or namely “overpowered”. If you say Feedback can nuke Lupi then Wall of Reflection could do the same thing. Is it overpowered enough to guarantee a nerf (which happens to to skills such as FGS, ice bow, black powder or healing signet)? Nope, I think not.
Untraited Warden used to be borderline overpowered. Right now none of the mesmer skills are worth called overpowered, in PvE.
No need to be hypersensitive. I don’t intend to open any debate over every single game modes here.
The OP did not really go with skills that trivialize encounters. Because banner of discipline sure is not doing that.
There is no matchmaking ever since they decided to reset the leaderboards and all MMR.
Forsaken combo is something i saw on those weird sub lvl 80 named weapons that you can pick the stats of – from two possible combos.
Like Hue or Royal Barber and so on…
Do you guys really need to reiterate the same topic every day in a new thread?
You do not need ascended gear.
If you want to get it, crafting is the only method to make sure you get the stats you want.
In this case you have to decide if you want it enough to craft it or if you are fine with exotics.
I’m pretty sure that while making a legendary or mawdrey or even playing pvp, there are certain things that people don’t like to do (map completion, farming for gold, play vs. turret engis or the likes, etc.) but everybody makes a decision if it is worth getting through it.
In the time it takes to make these posts every day, people who would want ascended gear could have already gotten materials for a piece.
Yes, even though i have other races, they are just there for the emperor title/racial story achievement.
Every race other than human is plain boring.
May i remind you that “there’s something in the water! help!”?
Tequatl originally comes from under water. Can a creature like that swim? Wouldn’t it sink? What is it made of anyway? Maybe it’s not 100 tons, maybe it’s made of ultralight composite materials with hollow bones.
For that matter, my mesmer makes a greatsword levitate and shoot a purple ray at things. I believe at the moment that is also impossible according to our understanding of physics.
Of course it can swim, blue whales are also gigantic like that and they swim around easily.
Also, dragons in Skyrim are dragons, not “wyverns”. Why? Because that’s what the devs decided. Neither of those creatures exist in real life, so what they are called boils down to what people want to call them, not to what some guy in the past decided to call them.
My point is, you don’t know what tequatl is made of. It does not look like a blue whale which would have a lot of fat. Do you know for certain how heavy undead material is?
While “chronomancer” is terribly not fitting for a mesmer, dragonhunter has put things in a new perspective and now i’m glad we didn’t get the same 10 years old son of a dev to pick name for us.
Oh and as for a suggestion… the artist formerly known as mesmer.
Henceforth the complaint threads in the necro subforum shall be known as “The Wail of the Banshees”.
Why does it bother people what others have? Because based on all the threads about ascended gear lately, it looks like the main problem is not that you feel like you cannot complete any content but that others have gear that is ascended.
Due to scaling, they don’t have any advantages in sub 80 areas.
Due to the nature of wvw, the difference is quite negligible really. (even in 1v1s, it’s rare that you fight a really balanced 1v1 in which the small difference could be of importance)
Due to the nature of open world pve… nobody really cares what tier of gear you are zerging that boss in.
It’s basically a compromise. People who don’t want to get it, don’t have to, while people who want to have the best gear can have some goal.
The thing is, Arenanet is trying to remove all the bits and pieces that make Tyria a “living, breathing world” in an effort to make all player characters more automaton-like. It’s small things sure, but it is the small things that make it living, breathing, memorable.
May i remind you that “there’s something in the water! help!”?

We’ve gotten shield and a lame name (granted “dragon hunter” is even lamer).
On paper our spec. looks at least more fun than the guard’s.
We’re not much better off than them though.
Chronomancer as a good example? No thank you. It is quite bad, but whatever.
It’s a blade with glowing runes inscribed on it. The runes glow already. I don’t care either way but if you look at how light coming from the balthazar backpack and the fiery dragon sword is handled… i’d rather they do not implement this effect.
You should actually get more light armor to salvage while playing a light armored class. That should balance that out.
Good luck.
Oh they’ve tweaked this before, you get more usable items for your class. Was a lot of complaining when they announced it, but it seems to have been a mostly small change overall.
Ah yes, i meant that you ARE getting more cloth when playing a scholar profession.
In all seriousness ANet should learn some lessons from GW1 dungeons.
1. Dungeon keys – so you actually have to derail and grab the key instead of just rushing to the end boss
2. Hidden chests all over the dungeon in random spots – so people have an incentive to go explore the placeThey do have speedclear tactics in GW1 which pretty much means the same as in GW2 (except its actually more fun
) but all those chests and keys leave the room for casual runners too. GW2 dungeons leave no room for casual runners or explorers – since the last boss is the only reward.
You what now? If anything GW1 pro dungeoneers have perfected the art of skipping everything. Rushing to the end boss to get the final reward. Because they were not farming for hidden chests or some random stuff but for the 100 ecto rare weapons.
You should actually get more light armor to salvage while playing a light armored class. That should balance that out.
Good luck.
I’d like to finish the collection before that chest comes along.
But i guess it will be available before i get the last piece and then everybody will have finished their set within a month.
Because anet likes to remove just about every value their players put on anything.
Your chars are not supposed to talk anymore because “feeling hot” when attuning to fire on human females was deemed too much for the game’s target audience.
I definitely need some more interesting gemstore items, like
- astronaut outfit (and separate armor pieces too, to mix and match)
- ray gun pistol and rifle (in different colors)
- motorcycle item similar to the broom or carpet
- helmet with evil knievel design
- black hole mail carrier where your mail comes out of a black hole that appears
- swiss army knife dagger skin
- bagpipe musical instrument since i am too slow to play the harp
- a kilt leg armor to go with the bagpipe
- Horrik’s cannon as a costume brawl weapon that would shoot cake or pie
- ball of yarn to play with for all the charr
- rollerskates toy
No one is whining its hard to get. we want another way to get them without some rng bs
And you have that way without rng. Craft it, just like everyone else who wanted ascended with certain stats has crafted one set at least.
That’s a beta pile of silky sand.
Then remove the voting and let the game decide like it was before. That was actually fair. You are talking about probability but if you see the 1 voter making 9 others play a map that they didn’t want to play on… the first thing that comes to mind is not “how nice and fair a system we’re having” but more like “kitten that one idiot making us play this when there were 9 votes for something else”.
The weighted roll is ok i think but if it’s really only one person who voted for a map while a huge majority voted for another map, then the system should not even consider that map.
If you are having problems in the silverwastes, maybe take a look at your build/playstyle and adjust accordingly. You don’t need staff-spamming or anything like that.
playstyle has nothing really to do with it. I dont use my mes in pve as mesmer in the current state is a 1v1 duelist. we lack aoe and many of our traits rely on the opponent to attack us or so like with confusion.confusion worked great in wvw but in pve was not viable at all. same with clone deat trais. most of the mobs are highly resistant to condis. our main dps comes from phantasma that die in aoe. thats why im much better off using my war to farm. easy mode u run in button mesh and u collect the loot. as mesmer u stay our u try to hit mobs but until your phantasm reached or the shatter happened they are allready all dead cause the warriors have killed the mobs .
I did say playstyle/build… Adjust your build, traits accordingly and you won’t suck in pve.

Is there some automated response team somewhere, that, when it sees a new outfit in the gemstore, immediately comes and writes a “Stop making outfits” thread?
Because even the title starts to be the same lately.
I bet it’s a tattoo and not even underwear.
There were horses. What do you think what centaurs evolved from?
The dreamer is bad enough as it is. No need to make a whole theme.
This thread and some of the posts here are the only reason i still believe that arenanet is capable of making proper decisions sometime.
The drop rate of these should not be the same from every source. Since you only need ascended armor for a very specific content, fractals 50, the ascended armor chests should drop more often in fractals than from champion bags or world bosses, etc. So if you get one ascended chest from 12000 champ bags, that’s perfect considering the rate at which some diggers (chest farmers) get these bags in the silverwastes.
So if you complain about not getting the one gear type you want or drops, maybe try doing higher level fractals. If you don’t want to, you don’t need the gear anyway.
Stacking in a corner or on (around, next to, etc.) the boss is still the same in regards to the whole post here.
Then how do you expect people to melee a boss? Attacking from an alternate universe with attacks that can penetrate the fabric of the universe?
inb4 melee too much rewarding
melee is exployt, nerf plox
…
@OP: All I can gather from this thread is “I don´t like it that people are doing this -> must be removed”. I don´t like unnecessary stacking either (there are still sooo many people that stack in old FGS spots), but you know what I do? I don´t care and just finish the dungeon =P
If you don´t like stacking in general just open up your own “no stacking”-group on the lfg-tool and kick people that don´t fulfill the requirement – simple as that.
I never said i don’t like it or that they should stop it. Just saying that stacking merely means that your whole team is standing in roughly the same spot. Be it in a corner or in the open.
Probably because you are doing lower levels for karma.
You play a guardian, do not complain about the imbued shaman plz.
Two years ago i could one-shot this boss on high levels, encounters change, that’s exactly the point here.
Are you guys for real? Hello kitty island have harder dungeon than GW2.
I haven’t seen anyone mention that it was hard, people used tedious and dumb and such which does not equate to hard.
The legendary imbued shaman is not hard, it has counterplay unlike this broken piece of ice. Previously you could shoot off the top, put stability on people when needed and reflect. Now with the new stability mechanic AND the inability to shoot the top, it’s just annoying and dumb.
While a shield on mesmer is an abomination, a rifle would have been even worse. Anet just does not care about class themes at all.
It’s just nice because now together with the new stability mechanic this is a rather stupid design that i’m pretty sure no anet dev or QA team member has played through on lvl 50.
Most speedrunning groups don’t actually stack anymore, it just takes pugs several months to catch on, instead they kill bosses on the spot.
Stacking in a corner or on (around, next to, etc.) the boss is still the same in regards to the whole post here.
Like someone mentioned, anet should take turrets out and replace them with some skills that people would consider to need actual “skill” to use. Call it “devices” or something. Make these truly OP. Problem solved.
Wasn’t this idea hailed as the great revolutionary idea to give access to those people who actively play the game?
I never do silverwastes, but when i went there for a cycle, i got my portal. So good.
Good luck farming.
It does not really matter which class you play, every class has some way to stay alive, avoid damage (be it blocks, invulnerability, reflects, vigor to keep doding more often), you just simply have to learn the encounters, use these defensive skills to not die when the boss attacks and attack when it is not attacking.
I’m going to disagree. The level of skill needed to survive with a warrior is quite a bit lower than that needed to stay alive with many of the other professions.
I did not say it was the same level of skill, just that they all have tools. Warriors are mind-numbingly tanky though even while being full zerk.
Because there is that one class i enjoy the most, but once i’m done with map completion, story mode dungeons, etc…. then i might want to redo these. Get a sense of progress. Basically relive the experience.
) but all those chests and keys leave the room for casual runners too. GW2 dungeons leave no room for casual runners or explorers – since the last boss is the only reward.
