Thief hard counter

Condi PU is amazing. Just last week i had a blast tanking 2 of these with my bunker guard (i have two guards and one is still AH) without much trouble. Kudos to whoever plays this build because if i would see it being that useless, i would change.

True, you can hold your own against thieves and that’s about it.

Mesmer is quickly becoming the most OP class

serenke.4806

People in general have problems with classes that can blast them to smithereens , while seemingly just mashing buttons and constantly evading things they do.

Sorry but thief and shatter mesmer are built for that spike and if they look to be too fast, that’s because they cannot afford to fight at the sluggish cele brawling speed. You don’t have the luxury to think for ages what to do next or how to counter them. You have to think fast, way faster than with celestials or bunkers.

While thief usually has the ability to get out and reset the fight, mesmers have to play all-out damage (unless they have portal to retreat to) so they look like they’re out for blood (and they are).

If all of the above sounds like “the most OP” to you, i suggest playing shatter mesmer and be most OP yourself.

The two biggest problems with guild missions are:

- After triggered, everyone from the guild can start it, even if you set mission control to certain ranks only.
- Diversity. We need more than 3 puzzles and a few more challenges.

All the other, smaller problems are not worth mentioning at the moment.

So…in short you are fine with 4-5 months of no new static content, with a possibility of 5-6 more months with no new static content before the expansion is released?

Even though we don’t know when the expansion hits, it’s a safe bet that it will be around the 3rd anniversary. That would not be an extremely long period without “static content” considering we are waiting for an expansion that we asked for instead of a continuous stream of content.

That’s quite true and many people interpret that as a lack of content. When in fact Anet basically lets you pick your own goals and reach them at your own pace.

It does and we need an update to fractals badly.

That’s nice but if you totally forget/dismiss people who would like to have harder content, you will end up with tons of casuals. Casuals will get to 80, then nicely leave (maybe craft some shinies, maybe not even that).

If for nothing else, the “hard core” crowd is good for population. But no worries, apparently instances are not on the table and we can all rejoice in zerg wars 2.

I think your assessment of ‘casuals’ is rather general and that makes your scenario very unlikely. While my experience isn’t broad enough, the ‘casual’ people I know fit this game’s model really well because:

1) They care less about how long it takes to do something, so they don’t just ‘leave’ once they have leveled to 80
2) Their goals tend to be more superficial, so they continually move to the next ‘thing’ to do. This happens to be alot of things for a casual player.

Not only do I have my own experience to guide me, we have the fact that the game persists for much longer than it would take a casual player to reach level 80 as well. Therefore, you’re missing something in the way you think about how casuals interact in this game and what that impact is on the game’s longevity.

If that’s true, then why do we even get an expansion? Your definition of casuals would love to have the monthly/bi-weekly updates for the “next thing to do”.

Also, my definition of casual is someone who does not care what traits they are using, which stats, does not bother learning the tells or capabilities of mobs therefore they don’t know what to use and when.

First of all, there are already zerg breaking things in this game. If you’ll notice a lot of the new stuff only really works if it’s anti zerg. Even as far back as trying to save people in escape from LA, you couldn’t get the max reward without splitting up into smaller groups. Same with the battle for Lion’s Arch, Triple Threat, the Marionette, Drytop, Silverwastes, all encourage the zerg to split. So nice rhetoric but dated.

More to the point, casuals can be as loyal as hard core players. Because they don’t run out of content as fast and because they don’t have crazy high standards that say we must have this done this way.

A lot of the casuals in my guild are playing since launch. Many of them don’t run dungeons or PvP at all, but they’re happy to wander the world and farm and do events.

And yes, they’re restless too, and anxiously awaiting new content. But I can guarantee you hard core players will run out of content a lot faster than casuals will.

Casual doesn’t mean you’re not vested. It means that you’re not quite a goal oriented or not quite as push yourself hard to get stuff.

A casual person might still be slogging away at their first legendary.

Breaking the zerg down into smaller zergs is even worse than one blob. At least you can still complete the event in a big enough blob. Watching something as simple as the Vinewrath or breach fail because of a bunch of people who have no clue is not exactly fun. Nor can you do anything about it. No, explaining it does not work, i’ve tried. If the challenge in content is to find/organize people who are competent enough, then that is not the kind of challenge this thread is looking for.

Casuals slogging away at their first legendary after a year won’t put their boss solo fights on youtube, spurring people to better their gameplay. Maybe you are right and the “casual” group is full of people who don’t even want to come out of their comfort zone of “i press 1 and win” but i refuse to believe that.

I agree completely! That is why everyone is a mesmer!

Wait…um no they are not and actually there are not that many….

nuff said.

I beleive we had established no one plays a mesmer because a thief eats mesmers. The competitive players have mostly abandoned mesmer because there is almost always a theif. You see some still compete in tourneys. Helseth looked pretty good today but helseth is well… helseth.

Yes, mesmers are horrible, that’s why one is going to WTS.

I’m not saying mesmers aren’t good…

You’re just suggesting no one plays them. It’s not like the class is not viable, it is.

Its viable but its one of the hardest classes, if not the hardest class to play. Which is why not that many people play it competitively. Helseth plays like almost no one else which is why he can handle it in WTS

There were matches where he spent most of his time downed/running from base… Let’s not bring top tier stuff into the discussion.

Condi Mesmer

if you want to be “that guy” try running either 2/0/6/0/6 as hybrid shatter mesmer or 0/0/6/2/6 as full condition shatter. Both work amazingly well as a solo roaming build with scepter/torch staff, and require very little skill to play. At the end of the day though, its cheese in its ultimate form. -Priest of Lyssa

Actually, both of those builds are pretty awful. Running shatter builds without DE is a great way to get stomped by anyone competent.

Agreed, you need the extra clones.

In my experience with PvP (not WvW), the problem with condi mesmer is the burst. In a 1v1 fight, you may win. However, this can take upwards of 40-50 seconds. The condis continue to stack on, but there is nothing to close the gap. By the time you have your opponent downed, they’ll have another teammate on you for the 2v1.

The great part about power shatter is the heavy burst and disengage. You can provide that extra damage to down an opponent and move on. You can roam well. You can’t do this with a condi build.

It’s a fun build to play, but you won’t see competitive teams running it because it doesn’t have synergy with other classes (for the reasons mentioned above).

if it takes you 50 sec to down in 1v1 dont engage . like thief hardly engage engi in 1v1 rather going to help in 4v3
the same with condi the aoe pressure is huge if you know how to do it as you can do better aoe dmg than any other condi class or build.
but yes necro give fear to the table, engi gives cc with crates etc.. while mesmer bring some daze and condi pressure

I’m not even that good at thief but I kill the majority of engis within 5s…. and by looking at my bio you can see the tier of pvp I get placed in on occasion ( not normally against the WTS players but I see them enough), it could be just that im better than these engis and at tourny lvls you might have a different experience, I also run a non meta build ( this is a likely factor) but your comment is in accurate to my experience. Are you perhaps referring to the magical crate of “I win that 1v1” or just sayign that winning a 4v3 is more effective?

i am also able to down 1v1 almost every class but some of is gonna take longer. engi i never had 5 sec down , just the block they used is 3 sec so i guess your opponents were not so good. but either way the thief job is not to look for 1v1 rather decap free points and engage in outnumber for faster down and running around decap/cap points for his team

I have been informed my build is hard countering these poor engis, oh well.

You’re not playing one of those “dodgeroll to win” condi thieves, are you?

We’re running fractals 50 daily and here are my comments:
1) Haven’t seen this bug lately though we’ve gotten that fractal quite often. (I know it bugged before.)
2) Agreed, Mossman has to be fixed
3) Harpies turn invulnerable if you attack them before you are on their platform. Old Tom’s fan makes sense, you cannot remove a poison cloud that is not there yet. It did not bug during the fight in the last few months.
4) The charr NPCs tend to fight random ascalonians on the battlefield and since those ascalonians spawn endlessly, they will die eventually. You should try to avoid running into those mobs.
5) If you take too long to hit the seal, new cultists/fanatics WILL spawn. It is intended and yes, they will kill you if you are stunned while they are up. If you are invulnerable when your team hits the seal, you won’t be stunned. If you happen to be next to the seal when it gets hit, the shield bubble will knock you back and you will be able to move around but with no skills (for the duration of the stun).
6) I haven’t seen this happen, i have seen the shaman dive and heal once, while he was miles away from the villager he was supposedly going to but it was not immediately after popping the shield.
7) This should be fixed, although Mai Trin is really not a hard fight.
8) Never seen killing only one tentacle initiate the 2nd phase. The irukandji will always go away unless you are doing lvl 50 in which case they are supposed to stay there as an additional difficulty. Non-hostile tentacles? Never seen those.

Condi Mesmer

in Mesmer

Posted by: serenke.4806

serenke.4806

No. People who don’t play PU condi never get those messages.
You get them for a number of reasons but mostly because of what Jurica said “Condi mesmer in PvP is not good simply”.

But thats weird, cuz and the most situations when i get this message is when i kill some1 in a hot join, then the rage begins. I am used to get those messages as a condi ranger too, but not as much im getting now with the mesmer ;p

Ok, so bear with me for a second, it will make sense eventually.
You get raged at because:
a) condition mesmer is not good in pvp because of the immense condi cleanse capabilities of shoutbows, dd eles
b) PU in particular is generally bad because it takes longer to kill someone and take the point or you spend a lot of time in stealth which increases the potential cap time even further
c) because of points a and b there are no condi mesmers in the meta
d) since there are no condi mesmers in the meta, the meta builds of other classes are ill-suited to fight condi mesmers 1v1
e) people take these meta builds into hotjoins where they get destroyed by your PU condi build
f) people “rage” about it…

They are technically right, you would never be effective in a premade vs. premade match, but then again, they went to said hot join and we all know that hot joins are a complete mess.
