I still want to know why they were removed in the first place. Anyone have any clue?

They were removed because Woodenpotatoes pointed out that his immersion was ruined because Kasmeer stretched during some “dramatic” cutscene.

This prompted someone to start a thread explaining how this totally ruined their immersion and had to be fixed.

Arenanet, with their usual approach, destroyed the animations until such a time when they have enough manpower to create some superb solution.

Here is the infamous post:

No what I mean is that an idle animation is quite possibly the least important thing they could ever delete to me. Mainly because it serves no use whatsoever other than to break some very minor level of tedium while you stand there doing nothing but stare at your character.

The only way you can put any weight of importance on this is by making it a matter of principle, in which case there are still much more worthy subjects to moan about.

And yes, I do love to use the word asinine. It makes me feel rebellious towards the censor.

So it was important enough when some select few whined about it in a single asinine thread that immediate action had to be taken, but when many people ask for it to be re-included, it’s not important because there are more pressing matters?

How does that even work? Besides, your first reply in the thread offered absolutely nothing of relevance except for being asinine without reason.

Well, Mesmer get the ability to counter all zerk classes now, not just thief.

Hard-counter Zerk Ele because they need a target for their S/F too.

They’re not using autoattack, but one key they chose before the run, so weapon/attunement swap can produce the effect they desired. That’s NOT the same as using only autoattack.

The point was that you don’t really need any tactics. The AI doesn’t pose any challenge, and can be killed with no strategy at all. And that was what this is about. The combat needs good ai to put up a real fight, where you are expected to pay attention, and react to what is happening.

If spamming your aoe heal skill occasionally, and spamming all your attacks in between, is enough to beat almost every PVE fight, then something is wrong.

This is what PVE combat looks like: I go through all my damage skills, rince and repeat. The enemies make no attempt to keep their distance, or stay out of an aoe effect. They don’t really use attacks that the players need to dodge. It’s as if this only happens during boss battles. It is as if only boss battles have the minimum effort put into them, to make them some what of a fight.

In GW1 enemies used to have builds, and unique skills, that made a difference. Silver Wastes is the first area where I’ve started seeing enemies that do something different. It is the first time I’ve seen enemies that have healers, or do charge attacks.

If you look at this video and start to think, they basically made a 5-skill build for the dungeon. They knew what they will need most and picked those skills (the ele is using lava font all the time, i wonder why…). This proves that there are a few important things that the different classes bring to the table.
It also proves that you fail the gate controller if you only spam one skill.
And like others said, please do the same in fractals 50.

Ah of course GW1 was always so much better eh? Yes, the mobs use actual builds – just like they do in GW2. They have certain unique features there, some mobs spam 25-energy skills as if they were connected to some nuclear reactor for energy regen – just like “shoot” in GW2.

Look at the Underworld in GW1. People have been soloing that for how many years? Challenging content? I bet you can make an 8-man party in GW1, everyone with one single skill and you can beat content there too.

If you do this, you should not feel underpowered, sloppy, like doing nothing, underwhelmed, etc. in dungeons.

Someone at Arenanet designed that with a lot of love and care, probably wanting to give players something to smile about (similar to the jumping quaggans).
Can we get some of the same developer care for our animations? It does not have to be a super-awesome solution like the jumping and dodging quaggan but something more than looking left and then right.

Thanks.

I never had problems with camera in this game. You’re overexaggerating, because the internet is not so full of camera issues threads. In fact, I put camera moa Jormag in the google and there’s no thread about complains… And with the latest improvements, there’re are less motives to complain.

Little do you know:

So yeah, the camera is a well known problem in the game for as long as anyone can remember. There have been countless threads about it, and eventually people just kind of gave up.

You call the latest changes to the camera “improvements”. I call them bare essentials for a moderately enjoyable game experience. Because really, the original camera system needed an exorcism badly.

Let’s be honest, you could play the game with the old camera system, it was not like you ended up cursing at it every day. So yes, you are exaggerating badly.

All this arguing could be avoided if you would see that dungeon-runners and pvpers have been using damage-control-support since the beginning. It’s not the combat system’s fault that 99% of the population seems to be standing on some safe spot at open world events, pressing 1 and waiting for the loot box.

serenke.4806

Ah yes, mathematically this system has fewer possible builds. Aside from a few cases not many builds used more than 3 lines before either. And the 30 traits per line? They forced you to use 5 points at once, so that was more of an illusion of 30 and actually 6.

I’m not sure you are actually complaining about the new system or the fact that to get some traits you want you have to take others you don’t want. Which was the case before too as you said.

And you can still take the same traits, as traits have been merged (not removed) to provide the same functionality.

So yes, you have a more simple system but it’s not more limiting than before – aside from the occasional case where you really wanted to go into 4-5 lines.

The whole trait/specialization thing is blown out of proportion by many.
Yes the issue raised in #1 in the OP is true, that is the point of making your build now. You have to make some choices, traits are more build-defining.

But to be fair, you could say that about the old system too because sometimes you ran out of trait points while trying to go for certain traits. Then you’d end up with the same question… what do i take and what do i drop?

The only real limiting factor now is that you cannot take two traits of the same tier.
No, the system is not “dumbed down”, it’s different.

The 2x HP on Teq could be ok if all attacks would have a chance of critting not just the ones that hit some obscure spot somewhere.

or, since the fight has changed, people could learn how to beat him now, and not last month? I’m sure a lot of people still show up in soldier’s….

Really? The fight changed? The patch notes said it is possible to critically hit Teq now. The patch notes never mentioned that there is a single spot somewhere in the boss model that can be crit. If a boss can be hit with crits then everything targeted that says “Tequatl the sunless” should be possible to crit.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I used to do certain bosses (some for the easy rare, others for a bit of different kind of fun) but slapping some hp on bosses while giving us a single crit spot (sometimes in hard-to-reach places) was a really bad idea.

What i’ve noticed is, the world boss fights are not more challenging or fun, they just take considerably longer.

If the single crit spot is a bug, fix it. If it is a design choice then maybe rethink your design choices because it’s not putting any more challenge into the content, it just draws it out.

And no, the fact you can still kill Tequatl by using different tactics, does not mean that this change was good or smart. This mess makes me wonder what the “challenging group content” in HoT will be like.

Mesmer OP or Strong let’s clarify

Mesmer was a weak class, bound Phantasm or Condi in PvE and Shatter in PvP (if you were running something, you considered as kitten)
Now after the patch. Not even 1 weak had passed and yet you were already calling them OP.

Understand that Strong is not OP.

Mesmer is now a strong class, they were used to be targeted at first in group fight.
But now people trying this are burning their fingers, and call them OP.
Using 4-5 skill to burst someone is not OP, it is strong.

OP is Barrage grenade now, how it is. OP was turret before change.
May be you should take time to understand what changed and what you can do against it, before calling them OP.
Running berserk or Marrauder is a risk. getting burst is risk. But you can choose not use those, and you won’t get burst so quickly.
it is easier to win now, but let’s thing settling down before calling them OP.
There are stronger class.

That pretty much sums it up. Nobody says you have to be running pure glass, if you get nuked all the time, tweak your build or pick your fights more carefully. Granted, not many people pick their fights, mostly it’s “raaawr i’m going in!”… then they get blasted to pieces or taken down by a ton of conditions (when they should have known they lack enough sustain).

Some mesmers feel OP now and people jump on the bandwagon. But remember how everybody and their dog was playing ranger when the power longbow build was suddenly “viable”?

You guys see how you can nuke other glass specs down now, and ask anet to nerf us, then we’ll get nerfed to oblivion and if others will still hit hard, perhaps a more tanky meta will surface and then we won’t be able to even put a dent into certain builds.

Just wait with your “benevolent balancing feedback” until things settle a bit. Your job is not to find balance or to tell the devs what is strong in your class. They do not read your fine-print about “tone this down” or such. They WILL nerf you hard and then you can be happy to keep on complaining for another 3 years.

in Mesmer

Posted by: serenke.4806

serenke.4806

What did you expect? People who never had to worry about mesmers before have to actually learn how to fight them because they are suddenly even more dangerous.

Then, since there is no “meta” yet, instead of thinking about their own build and how to fight mesmers, they come to the forums to cry.
Meanwhile , some of mesmers who regularly post in the forums also ask for all kinds of nerfs (sorry, BALANCE).

So your average Anet developer sees what? He can go ahead and nerf the class because hey, everybody is asking for it, even the mesmers themselves. We can just come out later and say: it was a bug and we did not nerf you, just fixed the bug.
Funny how people who played condi are upset about the MtD nerf, but they don’t care that much about other things being OP, nerfed or what.

Honestly, if you guys keep asking for nerfs, or saying “there is so much that needs to be toned down”… then don’t be upset later that we’ve been nerfed. Did you see what the engineers did when their precious swiftness was at stake?

Hey can you Mesmers stop attacking those of us who are trying to be fair? It’s not calling for nerfs. It’s about trying to reach a point for BALANCE.

The mesmer community is the most apologetic bunch of people i’ve seen. Who is going to speak for mesmers if even they ask for nerfs to themselves. But if everybody is crying for nerfs, even the mesmers themselves then anet will happily use the nerfbat and you can’t even complain afterwards because you asked for it. Smart.
